Side A: Sokka Adopts A Stray Fox Spirit

- After a toddler Sokka gets lost in a blizzard, a Knowledge Seeker that is taking back a scroll wanders upon him. Knowledge Seekers in this world not only retrieve information for the library, but also protect it - sometimes with their life. - This particular Knowledge Seeker feels the need to protect Sokka (who, unbeknownst to them both, is going to be a genius who tilts the world of knowledge on its head), and disregards its former duty in order to make sure the tiny human makes it. - If Sokka dies, then so much knowledge will be lost to the world. The spirit can’t have that. It curls up around Sokka, giving the child warmth and saving his life. - It decides to stick around when it realizes this particular human is rather curious and thus drawn to danger, aiding this one in its destiny. And while spirits don’t need to eat (And can eat just about anything), it’s also a bonus that human treats are really good!! Side B: Sokka Becomes A Knowledge Seeker (or New Spirit Entirely...?)

- Everything is the same as above, except for the fact that young Sokka succumbs to the coldness despite the spirits best efforts... - The Knowledge Seeker, keen in fulfilling its duties, essentially thinks, “Well shit. Can't let this potential go to waste. I'll sacrifice myself in order to heal the world, aid destiny, and ultimately expand knowledge for the world. This human's worth it." - Doggo combines its essence with Sokka’s soul, and gives the child a second chance at life. - Sokka in return gets canine teeth, a bigger propensity for meat, can go Borf, probably has auburn hair (still not set on the design), and has most of the abilities of the Knowledge Seeker. - No ears or tail on a literal level (Maybe...), but these abilities include: enhanced hearing, the ability to innately and uncannily Know Things by accessing his past spirit life memories and having a connection to the library, a 6th sense for danger and spiritual activity, climbing up walls like Spider-Man, and eventually being able to walk back and forth between worlds! As well as typical dog traits, like growling, claws, teef, and a propensity for meat!

zukka librarian AU where Zuko is a librarian minding his own business and Sokka is a MENACE to society who checks out like 17 books a week and somehow finishes them all (maybe to see the hot librarian faster who knows??)

so then one day the library does a reading challenge to see who can read the most books in a month where the winner gets a “secret private tour of the library” and of course Sokka wins (bc like I said menace to society) but he’s like, “I want HIM to show me around” and he points to Zuko in his little black turtleneck looking rather terrified, and the other staff members are like, well ya gotta do it I guess…

so Zuko shows him around the library, that’s probably like a gazillion years old (maybe more) with all its nooks and crannies and possible ghost stories and sightings and Sokka is SO into it bc he’s a nerd but also because the way Zuko passionately talks about the library is like.. so hot.

and they finish the tour and Sokka’s like, this can’t be it so he panics and is like DO YOU WANNA JOIN MY BOOK CLUB???

and Zuko is like.. uh yeah sure I love book clubs (and cute stupid guys)

but the thing IS is that Sokka doesn’t actually HAVE a book club so he recruits the gaang to come over to his house to stage a book club and they do it bc they’re good friends (begin the chaos of crash coursing the gaang through like wuthering heights or something) and when they all leave sokka and zuko end up staying behind to talk about books and be nerds and maybe kiss a little

and now they’re book nerd boyfriends. the end. (also zuko is indoctrinated into their friend group. double the end)

“Zuuuuko!”

Zuko’s hand holding the brush freezes, feeling caught and then immediately feeling bad for that.

Sokka hobbles into the library, the sound of his crutches getting louder until he turns the corner of a bookshelf and flashes Zuko a grin.

“There you are. Suki told me you’d be here somewhere. If I didn’t know better I’d say you were avoiding me,” he says.

It’s a good thing he’s distracted by looking at the items on the shelves, otherwise he might catch the guilty look on Zuko’s face.

“I just needed a change of scenery,” he says, looking back down at the scrolls he’s studying. It’s from a pile of reading material Iroh suggested he get familiar with. Iroh hasn’t left for Ba Sing Se yet, and he hasn’t said when he will, but Zuko already feels the overwhelming weight of his absence and he’s trying to get used to not needing him.

...Instead of spending time with him while he can still ask him questions in person and get his infuriatingly useful advice.

Zuko sighs. It made more sense in his head this morning. He reaches up and takes the crown piece out of his hair, feeling its weight more heavily. He places it on the desk.

“A change of scenery?” Sokka’s eyes light up when Zuko meets them. “Well, how about outside? I found this pond with the cutest turtleducks—“

Zuko hasn’t found it in him to go back there yet. He grimaces and Sokka notices.

“Outside is a no go then. Well, there’s other offices than the Fire Lord’s study, maybe you just need to try something else—“

“Sokka—“

“Or maybe we are still thinking too small. There are so many rooms in this palace, let me help you choose the perfect— shit.”

Zuko jumps to his feet. In his excitement, Sokka had gestured with one of his crutches and lost his balance, stumbling into the bookshelf with Zuko catching him right before he can fall to the floor.

“Sokka.” Zuko grits his teeth, his tone sharper than he intended. “Stop trying to help me. It’s hurting you,” he says quietly. This is far from the first time Sokka has tracked Zuko down or tried to find work to do instead of taking the time to heal. “You need to rest.”

Sokka looks hurt, and Zuko suddenly realizes how close they’re standing. His hands are still on Sokka’s waist to steady him even though he probably doesn’t need the support anymore. He takes a step back, hands falling to his sides.

“Sorry,” Sokka says, voice just as quiet. It feels…intimate, the two of them speaking quietly in the secluded corner of the library. “I just…I feel so useless. After months of constantly having a purpose, of knowing I can always find something to do to help, it feels impossible to just lie in bed all day. And you’re here trying to run a whole nation alone, Zuko.“

“I’m not alone," Zuko says automatically, but it sounds like a lie even to himself.

At the look Sokka gives him, he's not buying it either.

“I mean, it would probably be helpful to have some company,” Zuko admits. It’ll probably take him longer, sure, but maybe it won’t feel so painfully lonely. “Or you could help me interpret some of this handwriting.”

Sokka’s eyes light up. “Now that, I can do. You better get used to reading messy handwriting, though, otherwise we’re going to have a hard time keeping in touch through letters once I go back home,” Sokka tells him.

Zuko blinks in surprise, then smiles. “I can do that. Come on, let’s go do this outside. I’ve been meaning to revisit that pond you mentioned.”

ok i know the sex ed post was ages ago but I saw it in your most liked tab and it got me thinking, particularly with zukka, that even though they had sex ed they wouldn't have had gay sex ed. zuko grew up with sailors + the royal family in homophobic fire nation, and sokka got probably taught by gran gran about having babies. so all i can think is that if they decided to take that step when older, they are gonna have no clue what to do. queue sokka very very awkwardly shuffling up to bato who he knows is in a relationship with his dad and saying can I ask a question. promise not to laugh at me. except bato is less amused and more mildly horrified that sokka has chosen him to answer these questions

oh my god yeah. like, i'm not sure gran-gran's sex ed would've been heteronormative - depends on what you think the southern water tribe's attitudes are - but there's a very strong possibility that sokka, as a sexist teenage boy who thought he was straight, may have been like GRAN-GRAN EWWW STOP LALALA I'M NOT LISTENING

like the convo went: here's how babies happen -> sometimes grown-ups do this without the intent to make babies -> people can also do it with people of the same physical sex -> sokka running away screaming

for zuko, i think he might have. um. hands-on experience. y'know. on the ferry. with jet. does that prepare him for being in an actual relationship? probably not.

i'm not sure either of them would want to ask for guidance tbh. both of them canonically have experience with women (azula saying "mai seems to be in a good mood lately" had an undertone to it, sokka and suki in "the southern raiders") and zuko has some experience with men, so they'd probably just assume it's fine. figure it out as they go. it can't be that hard, right?

that said the image of sokka asking bato for advice on having gay sex is SO funny. bato knew he was signing up to be a dad when he started dating hakoda but he didn't think he'd have to give The Talk. also he has to be really careful about what examples he uses since his current gay sex partner is sokka's dad. (i imagine bato had some other relationships, but they all ended bc they realized he'd never value them above hakoda.) also sokka is asking specifically because he wants to have sex with the fire lord and like bato knew they were dating but he's never gonna get over how weird his life is now. "my stepson is asking me advice on gay sex so he can fuck the fire lord". truly wild.

meanwhile zuko has started spending time at piandao's bc he needs a father figure since iroh fucked off to ba sing se (plus piandao knows fire nation politics & can help him navigate being the fire lord) so he walks in one day and is like "yeah i have a question. not about politics but uhh. personal stuff" and piandao's like "oh what is it" and zuko tells him and piandao is like "i'm so honored you're asking me" and goes to his library and finds him a guide to gay sex that got banned in the fire nation but piandao managed to find a copy (he has a lot of illegal gay lit) and hands it to him like. go have fun kiddo. i'm rooting for you guys.

the other possibility is that suki (who is still dating sokka, they have an open relationship) finds out they want to have sex and knowing the state of their sex ed decides that they need a Lesson. it's a very good lesson because kyoshi island has very good queer positive sex ed but sokka has some interesting feelings about his girlfriend teaching him how to have sex with his boyfriend. not bad feelings. just interesting

Prompt idea based on your soulmate AU where people are tied to the wrist once they meet their soulmate, and they stay tied until both (or more) parties admit their feelings.

In this au idea, Zuko is tied to Sokka. Which makes capturing the Avatar an awkward affair. This helps to (gradually) jumpstart the Zuko redemption arc. But neither Zuko or Sokka admit their feelings and they remain tied together up to book 2 (or longer)

Aang and Katara were also tied together but they admitted their feeling early on. Perhaps after the Jet affair?

Then once we get Azula’s introduction in book 2 in Omashu and later during the chase, Azula Mocks/laughs at Zuko for still being tied to his soulmate. Azula keeps laughing until she gets closer to Aang and Katara. The two parties exchanging bending attacks.

Azula’s laughter is abruptly put to a stop when a cosmic force bring her, Aang, and Katara closer together and ties all three of their wrist together (or reties them to each other and ties to the scary but pretty fire princess in the case of Katara and and Aang).

All three are of course dumbfounded. Simply staring at one another with wide eyes. Azula for her part can’t believe that she not only has two soulmates, but one of them is the Avatar (that she should either be capturing or slaying). While the other is a (admittedly pretty) peasant water bender. Any plans she had to either get her brother back home, win the war for the fire nation, or gain her lord fathers approval has been put to a sudden deafening halt.

For his part? Now it’s Zuko’s to turn to laugh uncontrollably and mock his sister for still being tied to her soulmate(s).

How do you think canon would evolve from here?

Ohhhhhhhh. I really like this idea!

Hmmmm...

For one, Zuko would never stop laughing. Not only is his sister how tied to her soulmates but she's tied to two of them. Katara is on one side and Aang is one the other. Firebending for Zuko is hard now that he has someone chained to his right hand but it becomes impossible for Azula. The only techniques she'd be able to do are firebreathing and smaller firebending moves.

Azula can't exactly go back to her camp with the Avatar and a waterbender being declared as her soulmates, so she'd forced to go with them. I think she would say that they have to go get Mai and Ty Lee though (Mai would definitely laugh a little when she sees Azula cuffed to Aang and Katara while Ty Lee would think it's sweet).

Aang runs into a bit of an issue because it's hard to earthbend when you only have one hand and your soulmate is tied to your other one and constantly messing you up.

Zuko and Sokka have already had a season and a half to work together and know how to operate. They might not be 100% ready to confess but they can function just fine while handcuffed. I imagine Iroh would be with the Gaang and helped Zukka, but he'd definitely have some words for his niece about how thing is a good thing.

Whenever I have Iroh with the Gaang, I like to think that the library and Appa being taken don't happen because Iroh is going to have a map of the Fire Nation and he'd know about the eclipse (I think), but you could go either way here. It would be a sweet moment to have Aang and Katara protect Azula from Wan Shi Tong, who wouldn't want any more Fire Nationals in his library.

Azula, Katara and Aang being a couple would be very interesting. Katara notices Azula’s nails dig into Appa’s saddle when they first take off so she offers her a reassuring smile and starts talking to her to calm her down. Azula and Katara talking about their mother. Aang making spicy food for Azula because she misses it from the Fire Nation. And, of course, the nightmare and comfort content for all three of them.

Ba Sing Se would be when Zuko and Sokka confess. It could be during one of their tales or during the final battle, but they confess in Ba Sing Se. Azula is no where near being ready to confess by the time of Ba Sing Se.

The only thing is that I don’t know how in denial Azula would be. She’s literally tied to her soulmates but I don’t know how willing she’d be to give up pleasing her father and it’s not like she can conquer Ba Sing Se with Katara and Aang attached to her.

This all being said, Toph, Ty Lee and Mai are loving this show.

Who asks the other on dates: I think they both would, you know? They would alternate date ideas, with Sokka prefering more like... educational type dates, like going to libraries, while Zuko would prolly like more chill dates, like having a picnic by the turtle duck pond.

Who is the bigger cuddler: Sokka. Zuko does not strike me as a very clingy person, but Sokka would attach to you like a pentapus and not let go.

Who initiates holding hands more often: Hm... I think Sokka again, since like I said in the previous answer, he strikes me as a more physically affectionate person. After all, he was raised in the south pole, so he had to be comfortable cuddling close to stay warm.

Who remembers anniversaries: I think Zuko... they're both terrible at it, but Zuko seems like the more quietly romantic type who would want to do things on anniversaries. Sokka would want to, but his brain is constantly thinking up new things and he forgets the important dates. Not that Zuko minds it, ha.

Who is more possessive: Zuko. In my eyes, Zuko is a possessive person given all he lost as a kid. He holds the things he loves very close to his chest (metaphorically) and hates letting them leave his sight for even a moment. Plus, I think in The Beach he was a bit possessive of Mai, right? I don't remember since I dislike that episode and don't rewatch it often, ha. But also Sokka doesn't strike me as a possessive person.

Who gets more jealous: Zuko again for the reasons above.

Who is more protective: Hm... I'd say Sokka, if only because he's been the unofficial protector of the Gaang for so long that it's become a part of him and he's deathly protective of everyone he loves, but Zuko especially since Zuko seems bound and determined to get himself killed.

Who is more likely to cheat: Neither. They're both fiercely loyal and would NEVER betray the other like that.

Who initiates sexy times the most: Ehhhh I don't like thinking of this stuff too much, so I can't really say.

Who dislikes PDA the most: Zuko, if only because he was raised in a very conservative, restrictive family who never touched each other gently, especially after his mother left. PDA makes Zuko anxious that someone will come and make him stop or something.

Who kills the spider: Neither. They make Katara or Toph do it.

Who asks the the other to marry them: They both do. They both have an elaborate plan to ask the other to marry them, but both backfire spectacularly (like Momo steals the engagement necklace that Sokka spent months perfecting, or Aang misremembers what he was supposed to say and sends Sokka in the complete opposite direction of where Zuko requested he send Sokka, etc.) and they eventually just show one another the engagement item they got/made, and laugh over their stupidity.

Who buys the other flowers or gifts: They both do equally. Zuko likes to give thoughtful gifts that he carefully picked out, while Sokka gives things he found on the ground that he thought was neat, like a cool rock or a flower from the garden. Sokka also does the thoughtful gifts sometimes, but he prefers giving small things that made him think of Zuko throughout the day.

Who would bring up possibly having kids: I think it would be Zuko at first, if only because he has to have an heir for the throne, but Sokka would be 100% on board and would actually be much more excited (and nervous) that Zuko once the idea is planted in his head.

Who is more nervous to meet the parents: Well, technically speaking they have already met each others parents, but when meeting them as a romantic partner, definitely Zuko. Given his impossibly strained relationship with his own father, not to mention the fact he was Sokka's enemy and once terrorized the Southern Water Tribe, he'd be absolutely terrified that Hakoda will hate him and will forbid him from ever dating Sokka. Sokka would have to talk him down at least 10 times from a panic attack before the first official meeting. It ends up that the fears were completely unfounded since Hakoda respects Zuko greatly and is proud of how far he's come.

Who sleeps on the couch when the other is angry: Ehhh I honestly don't know... I'd say Sokka maybe? Not much reasoning on that. It's almost 1 am here and I'm too tired to think up more, ha.

Who tries to make up first after arguments: For petty arguments, Sokka, since Zuko is too stubborn and prideful to concede first. But if Zuko truly is at fault and he knows it, Zuko would be the first to own up and apologize sincerely.

Who tells the other they love them more often: Sokka says it more often verbally, again because he was raised in a physically and emotionally open environment while Zuko was raised with Ozai and Azula so... yeah. However, Zuko would show his love more often in small ways, which I'd give an example of but again I'm very tired and can't remember the example I thought up a minute ago, sorry.

that swamp tribe korra au idea sounds g e n i u s

JSAIDOJSAJIODAS THANK YOU ANON!! YOU JUST MADE MY NIGHT!! here, have some more of my thoughts since I've been thinking of this AU non-stop and have been researching a LOT:

Korra's animal guide is still Naga, but I'm changing her species to fit Korra and the Swamp Tribe more! Here's a sketch I made a few days ago of Naga, the Wolverine-Deer!!

Naga's deer side is more inspired by the Sika Deer, since their adults tend to keep their spots! I chose the wolverine rather than the badger because wolverines are typically loner animals that can take down both predators and prey DOUBLE the size of them, which I think fits Korra's character more!

I've also been doodling around with Korra's design a little bit, since I don't think it would be a 1-to-1 copy of her canon design. Still, I haven't been able to settle down on anything just yet - especially since I've been trying to give the Foggy Swamp Tribe more of a culture rather than just being the Water Tribe's hillbilly cousins. I'm trying to combine both Native American tribes that lived in Florida and other wetlands with the obvious Vietnamese inspiration their tribe has! It's...taking me a bit, though, since I am researching multiple things at once while also being A Responsible Adult, skldjaldaja

So far, I'm settling down on these facts for my fic (cause I WILL BE WRITING THIS - SOMEDAY!!):

Senna is from the Foggy Swamp Tribe. Tonraq is still from the NWT. After his banishment, his ship veered off course and ran into the Swamp Tribe's delta, where he met Senna and decided to stay! He's not the chief, however, as I'm thinking that the most enlightened elders of the tribe are the elected leaders (maybe one has to meditate at the Banyan-Grove tree first before leading the FST?), and it is someone else at this current moment in time.

Sokka isn't dead! I headcanon that he died due to injuries in the Red Lotus attack, and..well...I don't think that goes exactly as planned in this AU, sjadkajdlade. Due to this, and thanks to him figuring out first that the water avatar was most likely Swamp Tribe, he has a bit of influence in Korra's life!

(Zukka will be in this btw, since I Love Them, but they won't take priority.)

Korra wasn't taken by the White Lotus when they discovered who she is. The Foggy Swamp Tribe is very protective of their own and who they see as family, loyal down to the bone, and when the White Lotus says that Korra has to go to their Southern Water Tribe facilities to be taught bending, they REFUSED it. I like to think that the family unit and community is INSANELY important to the Foggy Swamp Tribe, and just because Korra is the avatar doesn't mean that she needs to be taken away from her home.

So, basically, Korra grew up with her community and has childhood friends rather than being isolated like in canon! This changes a bit in how she approaches Mako, Bolin, and Asami when she meets up with them eventually. (AKA, fuck the romance triangle, I ain't doing that)

The entire plot of Korra has changed - due to Sokka being alive, Korra's stance on non-benders is different. Due to growing up in the Foggy Swamp Tribe, who teaches the ideals of everything and everyone is connected and that connection is important, Korra also goes about defeating Vaatu differently. Due to Tonraq never making it to the SWT, almost everyone thinks he's dead (mail can't exactly get through tall trees or extremely vicious animals), so Korra never even met Unalaq either...

Helloooo, I’m back for day three with a Zukka academic rivals au :)

Sokka and Zuko both went after being Valedictorian for basically their entire high school careers. Sokka took an AP class, Zuko had to take an AP class. Zuko applied for an academic award, Sokka applied for an academic award. They were always chasing each other, making themselves a better student along the way. When the 2nd semester of their Senior year comes they get more competitive than ever, with their only goal being to beat the other man out of getting Valedictorian. It gets to the point where they’re litterally checking the class GPAd every single day to see if they’re ahead of each other (no it’s not stalking Katara)

When the time finally comes for the school to announce the class Valedictorian, and they both get called down the the office. Great, they both think, they can rub their win into the face of their opponent right there in the moment. But as it turns out it’s..a tie?? Like literally they’re tied, right down to the hundreds place, and it’s too late to do anything about it, so they will be co-Valedictorian. They throw an absolute fit and start fighting and yelling at each other (and the principal) right there in the office. Once the staff gets them to calm down, they inform them that not only do they have to share the title of Valedictorian, but they have to walk up together and coordinate a speech together. Zuko thinks he might burn down the building. Sokka thinks he might scream. They’ve worked so hard for THIS?? But they bite the bullet and decide to just make the most of it and pretend - as much as they can - they the other boy isn’t even there.

As much as it pains them to do so, they exchange phone numbers and set up a day to meet at the library and work out what they’ll do for their acceptance speech(es)…and honestly? It isn’t that bad. But of course they would never admit that to any living soul or each other. After they get over a bit of the awkward tension they start to realize how much they have in common, aside from their drive for academic excellence. They meet up a couple more times before graduation and each time it becomes less and less about the speech, and more and more about getting to know each other. At one point it comes out that, for both of them, their feud with one another and their desire to be valid Victorian came from feeling the need to prove themselves to their fathers. After that, they’re able to provide some comfort and understanding to one another in a way that nobody else could.

By the time Graduation rolls around they’re actually becoming pretty good friends, and don’t mind walking up and giving their speech together (mostly…it still stings a little bit but they’ve build an appreciation for one another and their hard work). Once everything’s over they’re suprised at how it kind of makes them sad that they won’t be seeing one another anymore, and that they’ll kind of miss the strange excitement they felt at the prospect of meeting up again (excitement which they refuse to name)

After the ceremony they say what they think will be a quick goodbye to one another. It feels kind of odd, like an empty place now without the weight of their rivalry. In passing Sokka mentions which University he’ll be attending in the fall. As fate may have it, Zuko is set to attend the same University, and neither of them have found roommates yet.

If they decide to be each other’s roommates in the fall, it’s only because it will give them perfect access to annoy each other and continue their rivalry ( this time in good faith), no other reason…<3

83. “Poetry isn’t supposed to be good, it’s supposed to make you feel things!”

Zuko isn’t sure if Sokka is always like this, or if he just enjoys irritating Zuko in particular, but sometimes the things he says in the one class they have together make Zuko infuriated. Zuko had met him once or twice, Aang had been convinced they would immediately become best friends, but they must have not talked for very long if Zuko didn’t know Sokka was the kind of guy to be taking a 300 level literature course. Nevertheless, he saw a familiar face and decided to take the seat right next to his.

Worst mistake ever, Zuko thinks as the back of his thighs run into something behind him, and then he stops thinking for a moment when strong hands on his hips lift him up to sit on the desk.

It took a few lectures for him to get on Zuko’s nerves, then at that point, Zuko didn’t dare move and break the sacred system that is unassigned assigned seats. No, he’s stuck with Sokka’s commentary both under his breath and the things he chooses to share with the class. It’s maddening.

Because Sokka makes some really good points.

(Not that he’ll ever admit it.)

(His mouth is a bit occupied anyway.)

Zuko tries to keep an open mind with everything they discuss in that class, but then they got to talking about Imagism, and Zuko absolutely refused to consider the side of someone as strongly opinionated against Ezra Pound and H.D. as Sokka is.

“Poetry isn’t supposed to be good, it’s supposed to make you feel things!” Sokka had insisted during the class discussion, and then proceeded to quote Amy Lowell to Zuko in front of the whole class.

Zuko grabs a fistful of Sokka’s hair and tugs. Amy fucking Lowell.

The professor had cut them off before things could escalate, but Sokka had insisted on walking with Zuko after class to continue the debate, and then they were in the library and Zuko hissed at him to shut up and Sokka had said something like “make me” so Zuko had dragged him to one of the many alcoves in the basement where he had caught far too many couples during his time as a library aide last year and…well, now they’ve stopped arguing and Sokka’s hand is under Zuko’s shirt and how can he even breathe…

Zuko pulls away to gasp for air and Sokka immediately takes this as an opportunity to trail kisses down to Zuko’s neck. Zuko lets out an embarrassingly loud gasp and when Sokka doesn’t move, waiting for Zuko’s reaction, Zuko just tightens his hold in Sokka’s hair and that’s all the invitation he needs before Sokka is biting down, and shit, Zuko is going to have to find a way to cover that before—

“Shit,” Zuko says, eyes trained on the clock on the wall and trying to calculate how late he is going to be because the alternative is focusing on the movement of Sokka’s tongue over the brand-new hickey on his neck and that way madness lies. “Sokka, I’m…I’m going to be late for work.”

“If you’re already late, no point in showing up at all,” Sokka reasons, his voice low and his breath hot against the spot below Zuko’s ear and damn it, Zuko shivers. “I’ll make it worth your time.”

Zuko closes his eyes because fuck, if he thought Sokka running his mouth was going to be the death of him before, it’s nothing compared to the way it’s making him feel now. But no, he has to be strong, because this job is almost certainly going to help him get an internship, but not if he starts ditching it in favor of making out with infuriating classmates in the library basement like some freshman – god, that’s probably the worst thing about this entire situation.

Sokka seems to be under the impression that Zuko is trying to make up his mind and he needs help being convinced to miss work, because he is using his hands and his mouth to try and persuade him but fuck, Zuko needs to be strong, plus he can’t let Sokka win…

It takes every ounce of willpower to put his hands on Sokka’s chest and push him away, and then Sokka is giving him a look and Zuko has to roll his eyes to give him an excuse to break the eye contact, and they’re both catching their breath. Zuko is about to break the silence, but then Sokka is reaching for the pen in the pocket of his flannel, and Zuko watches as he uncaps it and starts to write on Zuko’s palm.

“There,” Sokka says, grinning at the number now scribbled on Zuko’s skin. “Now you can send me those poems you were talking about.”

Zuko blinks at him for a moment, then against his will his hand is reaching out to grab the front of Sokka’s shirt and pull him back in, Sokka smiling against his lips.
