I post more pics of Magpie than Ozzy, only because some property of Ozzy makes nearly every pic I take of him blurry. So Magpie is literally more photogenic. Anyway, today Maggie is super proud because he got to go out in the backyard, and he hunted and killed a leaf! He brought me the leaf! He would like to teach me how to hunt leafs too!

I have praised him as a mighty hunter and given him belly rubs. And then I quietly threw the leaf away, because if I don’t he’ll eat it. Magpie eats cardboard, plastic if I don’t catch him quick enough, tried to eat aluminum foil and particle board once. He thinks cornstarch peanuts are the best cat treats. The vet says it isn’t pica; Magpie is just always hungry, and will eat anything he thinks is food. (But he’s not the brightest bulb on the porch, so “if he can bite into it” + “mostly not moving” = “food” in his mind.) I almost named him “Crumbsnatcher” when I got him, but I’m glad I stuck with Magpie, especially given this new habit he has of collecting things.

like i GET the impulse to be Part Of The Club and ig a couple pieces of official merch have At Times caught my eye. a few have made me deranged obsessed unwell. I DID make that extremely silly art trade with this furry i met online where i drew its fursona in exchange for a code for bluesky which i ended up using like twice and the chance to buy a years old yet unworn Very Cool destiny sweatshirt off them. i was Besotted since that particular merch drop Dropped because it DOESN'T scream to the four winds that it's A Game Merch but instead it all had the First Light Lunar Installation logo.... stealth nerd apparel my beloved. i don't wanna look like a fan of the thing i wanna look like someone IN or FROM the thing. designers of shit like that you get it. i love you. i would've gone for the boots too on either that or the Europa drop if i'd had disposable income at the time.

BUT. UHH. if i ever found myself or a close loved one filling shelf after shelf & maybe getting a whole dedicated piece of light-up furniture for like. Licensed Merch perhaps even Still In Its Box & Meant To Remain There i'd just. i'd want piglet to pull the trigger yknow? lmao

and like i FULLY GET the impulse to collect shit. gathering Trinkets and Thingamabobs and Tchotchkes is the absolute shit. minimalism be damned magpie swag is hot & sexy etc whatever

but WHY.... THE HELL.... would someone choose to collect samey mass produced shit when fanmade merch sometimes even HANDMADE is fucking RIGHT THERE ?????

and the folx who collect Funko Shit tend to have -10000 sense of visual harmony & taste. they just throw all the shit together and expect that bc fellow nolifers know how much it costs how long delivery takes how limited the runs are they'll be impressed but i just. gag. even when each individual thing is a nice & well made figurine or charm or pin or whatever instead of pukeworthy to begin with & only lent value through Licensing the way it happens w actual funkos..... it looks sososososo ugly just thrown together like that.

whatever. it's not Bad it just Deeply Offends my sense of aesthetics. if i'm gonna spend money on silly vidyagaem / generally geeky stuff i want it to approximate the look of something that came From Within The Thing's Fictional Universe. & not just give "Worthless-Until-Licensed Plastic Garbage To Make Money Off The Thing" vibes.

i'd rather have like. a tiny handful of things that were made with love for both the inspiration and the craft. that feel good as hell to hold or use or look at. that would only get clocked as Nerd Shit by someone who's been in the trenches & has crawled exactly as deep inside the creators' asshole as you have....... than a whole spare room's worth of things designed by an overworked underpaid intern to fulfill the collectibles quota or w/e. but that's just me!!

finally built most of my leviathan marines, and got a game in with them today too. I'll be posting some pics of that tomorrow. converting the monopose figures is kind of a pain, but I'm happy I got the beaky helmets and blood angels pauldrons on the sternguard veterans (also managed to get a custom shoulder pad on the librarian too).

I'm calling them the sanguinary magpies, the rough lore being that they're a group a marines consisting of former/defecting blood angels and blood ravens that specializes in retrieving and seeking out ancient knowledge with incredible zeal. the former blood angels especially are trying to find anything to help them combat the red thirst, tho the whole faction in general has a strong thirst for knowledge. between the angels martial prowess and uncontrollable rage, and the ravens physchic mastery and collection of "gifted" relics, they are a dangerous combination with a shady reputation. this has lead them to seek info and tech that many in the imperium of man consider heretical. while some consider the magpies traitors to the emperor, they feel their quest is justified; they try to avoid the bureaucracy and rigid structure of the imperium whenever possible, as these things tend to interfere with their goals

Maybe it's okay to be human sometimes. Maybe it's okay to look at someone and forget how to breathe. Maybe it's okay to look at someone and feel nothing. I never understood the nature of love or why humanity craves it. Sometimes I hate myself for being stupid in this particular instance. I know I'll never understand it. There is nothing to understand. Isn't it just some form of irrationality that makes us wrought with desire. I've watched what it does to people. Some people are overcome and rot from within. They say it lasts a lifetime. I say diamonds last forever. Diamonds can't keep you warm at night but at least they sparkle and shine and don't break easy. Besides, wouldn't it be better to have an iced-out wrist than a heart full of ice? Fragile organs, these hearts. Wouldn't it be better if we couldn't feel at all? Desire survives as long as the flesh does. I'd trade you love for a frozen wrist. At least the diamonds will outlive the love I'd probably have given you, don't you think?😂 The heart is precious. Some call it a jewel. You know a jewel is a precious stone, right? So if the heart is made of stone, why does it break so easy? Maybe that's why we love love. Like how Thanos collects infinity stones, we collect hearts and wear them on our chests. Like Wingless Magpies.

1.) Yep!! According to research i did, magpies like shiny stuff so I needed to give that to him. He loves jewelry and will even gift it as a form of affection! And another fun fact, when he was a kid he tried to collect the stars and was so sad when he found out he couldn't

2.) Roman (And by extension Remus but shhh) has a long and complicated history with flying. As a kid to early adult, he was deeply in denial about it and would try, but as he had the majority of his life to come with terms with not flying without aid, he dosen't try to fly anymore. That does not stop him from doing happy hops/fancy tricks that get a similar feeling in compensation :)
