Obtained A Birkin Bag To Sell? Thats An Issue For Hermès What makes pawnshops an appealing possibility for bag sellers is that they offer some flexibility in comparability with resale platforms. If you're dreaming of proudly owning a coveted Chanel or Hermes handbag or a Cartier watch, you would possibly wish to try your luck at a pawnshop instead. Looks tiny, the pink sling bag that Aurel makes use of may solely match for a pockets and one cellphone. From the symbol, it's clear that this bag is the manufacturing of a luxury model from France, Hermes. Of course, you do not have to fret about this on 1stDibs, where each Birkin is highly vetted. Hermès Vintage Kelly 35 Porosus Crocodile Miel Gold Hardware It's like fantastic wine, the Hermès Kelly bag will get higher with age. This vintage Kelly 35 in beautiful Porosus Crocodile ski... It is a method of telling Crocodile pores and skin from Alligator pores and skin. Their purpose is unclear however probably to do with stress sensing and in Crocodiles possibly for salinity detection as Crocodiles stay in salt water and Alligators principally in recent water. Generally talking Crocodile pores and skin is dearer than Alligator and often considered to be more fascinating. However, there are appreciable ethical points around purchasing new gadgets produced from unique skins and personally I wouldn't achieve this. You can have one Birkin or Kelly and the second bag is a free alternative. Price ranges are estimates that change based mostly on dimension and material, and might change yearly. Will often ship inside 1 business day of receiving cleared payment. Both are made using the most exquisite Hermès craftsmanship. The maison started life as a Paris harness workshop, established by Thierry Hermès in 1837. Its specialism shifted in the succeeding years and its very first handbag was unveiled in 1922. The shiny pink shade, croco texture, and gold H symbol seem really luxurious. This bag mannequin is priced at round 87 thousand dollars or Rp. Freund reports the costliest Birkin offered on 1stDibs was listed at $225,000, and the most expensive Kelly fetched $134,000. Ideal for night wear, it effectively works as a chunk of jewelry. Elegant in form and sensible in perform, the Constance enabled women to hold their bag on their shoulder and maintain their hands free. The Hermès Birkin is considered by many to be most collectable bag on the earth. Designed in the Nineteen Eighties for British ingénue Jane Birkin, it has been reworked and reimagined many occasions since. Race Kelly was a lover of Hermes earlier than she made the 'Kelly bag' a timeless icon with the well-known photograph of her hiding her being pregnant with the protect of her Sac à dépêches bag. The mother-of-two also showed off a 10-inch Togo design in black, with a retail value of $24,000. In 2020, the PR maven shared a glimpse of her assortment at her $6.6 million mansion in Sydney. In October, the Kardashian clan arrange Kardashian Kloset to sell and recycle their expensive clobber, whereas claiming to be "promoting sustainability". It has given shareholders common annual returns of 24% over the past decade and its shares now change palms for forty one times projected earnings. “I extremely recommend buying a vintage piece from a reputable supply,” notes Koffsky, who deals with Hermès pieces regularly. Auction homes are an excellent place to begin for those seeking rarer models, with the likes of Vestiaire Collective, 1stDibs, Hardly Ever Worn It and Collector Square all main gamers in the luxury resale market. Hermès is a home that prides itself on craftsmanship and artisanal follow, so much so that any employee must complete two years of coaching before making a Birkin. The laborious, solo process takes 12 to 18 hours in a workshop, utilizing the mix of conventional hand and refined needle work that has been perfected for the explanation that bag’s inception. There will be plenty of Hermés baggage on offer, including a “shiny graphite” Porosus crocodile diamond “Kelly Cut” for an estimate of no less than US$50,000. The Hermes Birkin sizes are numbered in 25, 30, 35 and 40. These are centimeters, so 25 means 25 centimeter. Birkin 50 and fifty five are exceptional; they're much bigger and greatest used for travelling as a substitute of shopping or as an everyday bag. Beginning as a supple leather bag for actress and singer Jane Birkin, the bag rapidly rose in recognition and is now the symbol of wealth, class, and fashion. It’s highly recognizable design makes it a staple of the style trade and it’s beautiful craftsmanship provides it the attraction every fashionista desires about. Any ideas on where to find the date on a diamond birkin?

Thor: Ragnarok - what the hell was going on?
Well, well well. I have VERY mixed feelings about this film.
Overall, I think it touches on Asgard's/Odin's imperialist & colonizing past nicely; I'm so glad a Thor film finally brought that up. The characters had nuance will still being funny, and nothing truly seemed out of character. The story arc was intriguing and held my attention thoroughly, but something throughout the movie seemed...off.
I'm still not sure what that was. The setpieces and colors were beautiful, the found family dynamic was awesome, even Thor & Loki's resolution at the end. But also...why?
I think it comes down to how specific actions were painted. While everything seemed in-character, those actions that Thor, Loki & co. took were portrayed as "good" or "bad" based on who the character was. Let's take the beginning for instance. Loki is seen as a narcissistic ruler who's been ignoring the Nine Realms in favor of watching plays about his own heroic deeds, still under the guise of Odin. Sure, in character. He's decolonized the realms, brought arts & theatre back in favor to Asgard, and is generally a charismatic and benevolent, if narcissistic and deceitful, leader. Okay. But then! Thor barges in and says the realms are in "chaos?" Hmm...the narrative is confusing here. I thought it was a good thing that Asgard isn't controlling its 'colonies...' unless imperialism is a good thing? Except it's not, because Hela's bad. But Odin's good? And they both were colonizers? So WHAT's going on? The narrative confuses itself depending on whether a character in question is a hero or villain.
Another example: Thor. He's the good guy, so it's okay for him to leave his brother lying on the ground being electrocuted, for god knows how long. And while I do believe that Thor would do such a thing, because he and Loki have a complicated, unhealthy relationship, that action is painted as an okay thing to do! Thor, it seems, is "the one who never changes."
Again, both Thor & Loki's trauma is brushed off for laughs; again, Odin is seen as a good person when he's clearly someone who has always treated his kids terribly (the same can be said for Thor in relation to Loki, though I do believe the latter can still have a redemption arc in my mind in that regard).
This film was MASTERFUL. It was AMAZING. I loved Brunnhilde and the Grandmaster and Bruce Banner's inclusion. But why did the character dynamics with the characters from the previous Thor movies (Thor, Loki, Odin) have to be so confused and twisted? When will Thor & Loki get to truly reconcile, truly work out their trauma, and truly embrace who they were meant to be? That fell short for me in this film, and I hope that in the 4th Thor movie, we see that for Thor, and in the Loki series, we see that for Loki.
But for now, this movie gets a solid 3.5/5 stars.

I just finished erha(2ha) or also known as Husky and His White Cat Shizun. And I needed come here talk a lil about my experience.
Part 1
Warning: Spoiler ahead. Sensitive topics being discuss. That's just my opinion. Don't kill me.
My rate:🌟4.0/5.0 (or 9.0/10.)
Let's start with...
Things that I loved in the plot, or arc or narrative.
In their Romance/Relationship:
Xia Sini arc.
Nothing to say. I just loved the whole arc. I felt it was a way of restart all with a more sweet, pure, innocent way, considering it gave the opportunity to them grow close, be friends, get to know better each other. I loved that.
Their first times having sex
I loved how MR focused on giving pleasure on CW, despite his desire. That was sweet
The Love Declaration
Nothing to say too. Just beautiful. (But my heart broken every time I heard CW saying "I'm ugly").
Mo Ran's Death
Loved that? You kidding me? I hated that. I cried like a baby, it hurted so much. But is was so beautiful and so tragic... I can't not even talk about that scene without getting emotional.
The End
I didn't like having Taxian Jun around, but I did loved how CW loved the whole MR. Those extras are just beautiful.
In the Plot:
Time travel.
I love so much a plot of time travel. Specially those that are different from the mostly. That you go back in time and change things but this doesn't affect the present, it creates a new timeline. I loved this.
Multiverse of Madness.
I'm Marvel fan so when I saw this plot I loved so much. Cause is exactly the same thing than in Marvel. In the show Loki is explained. I think if anyone didn't understand well that part of having two version of each, could watch Loki and understand better, even being different stories and in erha not be mentioned multiverse, the concept is the same. In Loki if you go back in time and change something that will create another world "copy" of the original, another timeline with that change in motion, but your present will remain, the way it remained to CW. But there will be two version of the same person, of each person. So I absolutely loved this.
The reason behind all/The villain goal.
I started the book already knowing about the flower. I didn't know how and why, I just knew MoRan was evil once because of some demonic flower. Because of my trauma with Maven from Red Queen, my suspect number one from the very first moment was the kind, sweet, complacent Shi Mei. However I never expected how much emotions I would feel around this. I loved that the goal of the bad guy was not something evil like domain/destroy the world. The villain is evil but his goal is good and understandable. The way those people suffered is was expected that one day someone would go crazy enough to do something about it. I felt so confused, cause for one side I wanted them to be okay, go home or something, on other hand the gates couldn't be open, but after it were open, after all was done and said, I did root for them, I root for them to enter, was too late anyway, how could I wish for they don't go home? So against all odds, I sided with the villain at this moment, I felt angry against that demon tbh, don't wanting let them enter. And after they entered, I felt happy about it and than, guilty cause they only was able to enter due to all that Hua BiNan did, all the genocide, he succeed, how can I be happy for him succeed? But in other hand, those people weren't bad, they just wanted to live, to live without fear of being killed in the mostly horrible way possible, how can I don't he happy about them being safe? And this is the mostly amazing thing about all this. Is one of the villain that I hated the mostly, but with a noble goal. I still don't know how to feel about all this. But I loved it. Well played Meatbun.
The villain
Talking about the goal. The other thing that I loved was the villain. I hate him. But he's the best villain I've seen on a fantasy book. He's complex. He kills without blink, he's responsible for numberless genocide, I never seen someone with so much blood on their hand before and still he thinks he didn't kill. Still despite his coldness, his goal is merely save his people, not even revenge, just take them home, still he don't think himself as a hero. Honestly I think he's very complex, complicated and really, really well written. When I started read and having my suspects, I remember thinking, if SM is really the villain he has a lot of potential if she knows what to do, and I'm so happy in being right with that gut feeling, he fulfilled his potential, I hated him, I felt disgusted by him, shocked by his coldness and evilness, than I understood him, felt reluctantly, compassion and pity, and I will never admit that I said that but when he died I felt some sort of respect for him be willing to give his life for his people, not respect for all he did, I despise all he did, but respect about he giving his life. None of those feelings cancelled the other. I admire him giving his life still hating and despising him and all he did. Even SM 2.0 I have, had trouble in forgive, I don't mind he ending up alive, but I still hate him too, cause he still threw the flower on MoRan. So the reason why he's the best villain I've ever seen is because he made me feel things. Don't know if my moral compass is broken, if my heart is too soft or too weird, but that how it went to me.
----*----
I'm quite aware that every book, even my fav of the fav, are not perfect. To me at least, I haven't read one book up to this day that I consider perfect. I think every book has defaults and problematics, is just up to each person decide what they can ignore what they can't. I have read Chronicles of Ice and Fire which is dark and full of problematic, so erha was not so hard to me. Still, ofc there's things I disliked, this just didn't harm my experience. So, with no more overdue, here's what I disliked the mostly.
The problematics that bothered me:
Wanning in love with MoRan when MR was only 16.
That did bother me but, I was able to ignore, because of a few things, first, WanNing is innocent, naive, his love is pure, because him himself is pure, with exception of that time that MR sliped in that bathtub place(I know is not a bathtub but I forgot the name lol) in which CW got er ya know, I don't remember other moments that CW feelings towards MR was sexual(in book one). Another thing was that MR had a adult mind, not just that but a crazy adult mind, he's the one who attacked CW, it was like CW being in dangerous rather than the other way around. Another things was that in the world of the book, 15 is the over age.
The rape scenes.
Not the arc of the rape, but the scenes itself. I didn't like how descriptive she was. Not just because of the emotional part, but because is kinda boring. I find even sex scenes too long boring sometimes. I found unnecessary the too long descriptions. But is something you can just skip.
Things I disliked, but it has to do with the narrative or plot and is related to my taste or pov(not a problematic, at least not to me):
Too much sexual tension in the second book.
This has to do with my taste, I'm not a big fan of hot, so I found boring that chapter after chapter we had only they with their sexual tense, one moment cute and more sexual tense. That and the lack of things happening was kinda boring too me. But don't get me wrong, is not like I hate all, I loved many moments. But about that too, another thing that bother me was how the author associated love with sex. And love and sex not always walks together. I mean ace people exists, they fall in love without the sexual part so, I didn't like that.
The final revelation.
MoRan be a Butterfly-Boned Beauty to me was a little thrown out of nowhere and too convenient. He's a rare type that shows no signals of be so, is convenient, I feel is something made up in the last moment just so he could come back to life. Is okay, but I just felt a little meh about that.
I miss a little more of development on XM.
I will talk about this when talking about the characters.
I miss a little bit more of reaction before the villain revelation/goal and the whole manipulation thing.
I feel MoRan is the mostly enlightened person ever, cause in no moment we have him feeling angry for being manipulated for so many years. In two lives. I missed having him dealing with this. The angry, the disappointment, the sorrow. The confusion maybe. This also applies to Xue Meng, even more maybe, cause his feelings for SM weren't messed up. He was so attached to his lil group, and seemed close to Shi Mei, so I missed he reacting to that. What I got from him is that he was in denial. Either way I feel only WanNing had a proper reaction to the revelation. Everyone else was a bit off about it. It lack depth on it.
Taxian Jun is still around.
I don't like the end, the part of TXJ still exiting, because once in every three days, MoRan will feel miserable again, paranoiac and broken and that makes me sad. He suffered so much he deserved be happy and well all the time.
This is it. That was the things that I disliked or bothered me regarding the plot, story, arc, narrative.
My favorite scenes, not necessarily scenes that I loved, more like scenes that made me feel something.
Mo Ran's death.
Sisheng Peak being destroyed and XM going crazy in kill mode.
Flashback of the flower being thrown.
The revelation of who is behind all, in the cave after the flower is gone.
The revelation about CW birth.(I scremed "he's pinocchio ahhh")
HBN death
TXJ sacrifice, when he becomes dust.(Btw I felt some parallel between those last two, them both holding up something, sacrificing themselves to a number of people escaping, both living under the trauma of their mother's death. I don't know the meaning behind, but I felt it was a parallel)
MoRan being saved by CW from that blood hourglass in book 1.
Mo Ran taking care of CW during the whole night in book 1.
MoRan taking care of Xia Sini.
That scene with Chu Xun.
The love declaration.
Part 2 is here

Top Ten Favorite Fictional Villains
Another Top Ten! And one of my favorites—my favorite fictional villains! I love villains way too much, and I always look for an interesting one. Villains that are more than just revenge or greed, ones that take another step forward, and I can understand them. So, here you go, with my favorite villains: I hope you enjoy.
1. The Darkling (Grisha Universe)
Tumblr media
He was my first experience with loving a villain. In the sense that I wanted to know more about him. I was just out of high school with this series, and from this villain, I learned that you could make your villain so complicated that sometimes they seemed more gray than utter darkness (though I personally don’t think evil = darkness). He inspired my own tastes in villains and how I write villains, and that is why he has a special, dark place in my heart.
2. Maven Calore (Red Queen series)
Tumblr media
MAVEN. Talk about an utter complicated, messed up person. You feel sorry for him all throughout the series. At least, I can personally understand how he became a villain, how twisted he became because of complicated, outside sources. But he still made decisions that weren’t right. I think he’s one of my favorites because of the deep, deep layers and scarring attached to him.
3. Loki (Marvel Cinematic Universe)
Tumblr media
Loki was the first time I fell head over heels for a villain (I still don’t know if that’s a good thing?). He’s snarky as hell, magical, devious, hot as hell, and he’s intelligent. I like villains that are ten steps ahead of everyone (actually, that’s how my brain works, and I share personality types with him, so there’s that…). He’s interesting, complicated, but also flat out mischievous, and he does have a caring heart. I can’t wait to see his new tv series, just to see what they do with the “old Loki.”
4. Rumpelstiltskin (Once Upon a Time series)
Tumblr media
I think everyone has a soft place for Rumple. He’s my top villain of the tv series, because he just IS. I know there’s some reasons for his choices, but he ultimately didn’t mean to become the Dark One, not in the way he expected. Yes, he wanted power, he wanted everyone to see him. But once he gets that power, there’s no reason behind it. He just likes to know everything, be ahead of everyone, to be hanging out in the background while the whole world sets itself on fire (yeah, that’s me too). He’s manipulative and cruel, but man, there’s a man beneath the beast, isn’t there?
5. Barbossa (Pirates of the Caribbean franchise)
Tumblr media
Who doesn’t love Barbossa? He’s a fantastic pirate villain, one that turns into a frenemy (that’s what I would call him anyway). He completely flips by the fifth movie, but I loved that he was who he was, and he didn’t give a damn what anyone thought. Plus, he’s smart. He had to have some interesting background, because he’s intelligent, he speaks well, and that grammar isn’t one for a pirate. I want to know his past as much as his present, and I love seeing him on screen.
6. Moriarty (Sherlock Holmes fandom)
Tumblr media
All Moriarty’s. I love the rich viciousness of this character. The one who likes to play games and watch everything unfold. Honestly, he rarely has his own hands dirty, he’s just the puppetmaster. (Okay, why do I like the villains that are always ahead of everyone else—oh that’s right, because I think of ten different things to say before someone responds, so I know where to turn, what to plan). There is a demented thing to him, and he seems so normal to everyone else around him. And he loves finding someone as smart as he. I’m all for it.
7. Zelena (Once Upon a Time series)
Tumblr media
Yes, another ONCE villain. There are so many, but I loved Zelena. I love her transformation, that even though she becomes a “hero,” there are still qualities of her that are just her, even if they could be considered villainous. She’s human, with some magic, and that’s the bottom line. She’s the villain that I connect with, and I love her damn wit and sarcasm.
8. The Headless Horseman (Sleepy Hollow)
Tumblr media
He’s scary, that’s the bottom line. And there’s something so mystical and awe-inspiring about him. I love seeing artwork, statues, people dressed as him. My personal favorite is the version from the tv series Sleepy Hollow, because that damn shot of him whipping out an automatic weapon blew my flipping mind.
9. The Devil/Luc (The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue)
Tumblr media
I don’t know if you call him the Devil, as he himself doesn’t, but he technically is, or at least, what we consider the Devil. I like the lusciousness of him, the way he likes to show his smile as he makes your life crumble. He has humanistic qualities, that brings him down from that dais he created, but I like that he fights with himself over it. That he sneers, he stays quiet, he listens and watches, he punishes and delights. He’s just so fascinating and cool.
10. Pitch Black (Rise of the Guardians)
Tumblr media
Up front, he would seem simple, which goes against what I said about how I like my villains complicated. He’s evil, he’s darkness, he’s nightmares. He’s the living embodiment of fear. Seems simple right? But I love him because he’s not. He may be terror incarnate, but he has the same desires as the heroes: to be believed in. Though his is for all the wrong reasons, you actually pity him at times. It’s not even necessarily about jealous, he just wants to be believed in. And I like that he’s used as a mirror to Jack Frost—a path Jack could have taken. It’s so interesting and I dig it so much.
Runner Up: Kylo Ren (Star Wars Universe)
Tumblr media
Oh, Kylo. The bad boy that everyone loves and hates. I love him because to me, he’s like a scared little boy. He wants power, he wants a voice, he wants to find a place for himself. But he went down the wrong path. And he still reacts like a frightened child. He eventually changes and everything he believed crumbles around him, but he still has that path. It’s different and amazing to watch.

The Neighbour - Keanu Reeves x Reader
Tumblr media Tumblr media
❧ Summary : You develop a sexual relationship with your much older & quieter neighbour, Mr. Reeves- eventually finding yourself at his house every single night.
✽ Word Count : 1.3K
✽ Prompt : “First one to make a noise loses.”
✽ Warning : nsfw, smut. age gap. light bondage.
A/N : This could turn into something....but I’m not gonna make promises because I suck at those clearly 👀 this is prompt #48, requested by anon :)
Sex, exploration, hunger,
She’d known little of any to those things, those words a mere amatory compulsion ticking in the back of her head until not too long ago…
They’d ceased when she’d met him; the man in the large chic house next door.
Dark mocha locks and an almost lusting gaze her way, when he’d drink her in.
The neighbourhood knew little of him, caged opaque gates and secluded bushes gated along his home. He’d come and go scarcely, she’d scrutinised a mere couple of times through her bedroom paned window. Features dark and rather stoic, his hair fell in dusty burnt length, untamed often to the dark tint. He was older, positively 20, perhaps 30 years her senior. Café eyes inquisitive; glazed to her body a time too many, caught locked to her curious, marvelled orbs his way more often than she’d liked to admit.
He wasn’t one for the crowds, favoured to keep to himself nonetheless.
Yet for her, he’d waited. He’d waited long and well, patiently, tolerantly, waiting for her to come. And come she did,
to the house next door,
the house beside her own where her purity had been vanished, lost to the man who punctured each inquisitive vein in her twenty years ripened, sex craved body.
.
“Deeper, sweetheart.” He’d whisper late into the night, voice mellowed yet to a gravel, sultry when he’d hit the back of her throat. The first time she’d taken his massive length into her mouth, gags and choked exhales littered her breaths, gasps of air desperately falling until their meetings became almost daily - until he’d trained her, taught her just how he likes it, just how he longs for her.
“I know you can fit it all.” He’d stroke her delicate maven locks, a fistful of her loose strands, tears stinging a sear to her eyes with a throaty choke to his enormous thickness. “Show me you remember what you learned.” Knees burning to the carpet dug into below, she’d still feel the delicate burn he’d left between her legs the nights before.
The man she’d pondered about for far too long, had lately been leaving delicious burns and aches to each dip of her body. He’d been reminding her every second of every day, every long wake of the day break sun in anticipation for nightfall; when she’d go to him.
“So sexy. So sexy with my cock in that pretty little mouth.” His praises meant more than any other, his encouragement, his lust, his love for her body a fuel to her yearning for him.
Nightfall was theirs, nightfall meant she was his, for him to do whatever he liked to her body, all night long.
.
“That’s it, kitten.” He’d encourage, heavy cock sheathed inside her tight pussy that knew no other girth than his. Repeatedly, over, and over, and over, he pounds into her from above, toned muscly arms secured to her waist in a demanding drill of hips. “Tighter, babygirl.” He’d encourage, pace never faltering when he removes the black plastic gag ball from her rosy lips, in exchange for a hungry kiss. “Tighter, Y/N.” He’d assert, one hand firm to her bare hips, stocky digits of the other cradled to her chin, upheld to lock his intent gaze. Throbbing veins pulse up the shaft of his generous cock, the friction unbearably irresistible inside her stretched walls. Had leathered handcuff and dainty chains not restricted her limp to the bed frame above, she’d undeniably claw her fingernails into his rosy flesh, raked across his broad and bulky chest in crave for any remedy to the fulfilling burn. Breaths rugged, he reminds through the feel of her warm wetness shuddering, cocooning his member. “You know how I like it, kitten.”
Tight. Sloppy. Loud. Warm and wet. He likes it unadulterated.
Mr Reeves likes it pornographic.
.
“Mhmm, my pretty little slut.” He’d rasp into her ear, feeble legs sprawled across his kitchen counter as he delves in. “You taste unbelievable today.” He’d whisper against her sensitive clit, already throbbing after their multiple rounds prior. Lapping her slick arousal, he’d suck feverishly on her moist folds, thick hand assaulting her entrance simultaneously. Mr Reeves would leave her a disordered mess, wet, skin glistening with creamy cocktails of both their releases.
“Come. Legs around my waist.” He’d dominate, her arms wrapping around his neck as his hands plant to her ass, carrying her almost lifeless, limp body to his next surface of choice.
It was their dirty secret. The way he’d erratically ram her velvety, pulsing walls. The way he fits like a puzzle piece, the way the sloppy sounds of her slickness fills the house walls; the way the skin of his balls sounds hammering into her precious little pussy late into the eve.  Mr Reeves normally begins with shallow, slow thrusts, allowing her to get used to him again.
But norm as of late, Mr Reeves has little patience. When he first feels his heavy cock slip through her silky arousal, he can’t quite keep selfish needs at bay. Lately, he’s been coming in rough, rapid, fast and restless. A string of moans escape his lips, cock twitching within her as he pounds, slamming relentlessly against the buck of her hips.
Lately, he sets the pace vigorous and strong, mauve and rosy bruises peppering, paired with delicate satin hickies painted across her skin; the task of shielding them away from sight the next morning the last thought to graze her mind,
when he’s buried so deep, so gaping.
.
Mr Reeves is fun, adventurous, and if she looked around his rather extravagant home, she’d yet to name a place he hadn’t assaulted her small cunt, selfishly marked her body with purple bruises off his lips and tender fingerprints.
“First one to make a noise loses.” Planting his hand over her mouth, his palm wraps his thick and throbbing cock, generously guiding himself into her heat inside the sizzling waters of his jetted Jacuzzi.
No one knows how full he makes her feel, how complete he makes her feel as she sobs for him, whimpering, wailing, breath stifling when she watches the way he fucks her senseless each time through the reflection of the night patio windows. He worships her body, skin slapping skin echoing the bath. The chase of relief is far too strong, his cock aches for her every day, all day as he waits, collection of gadgets and knick knacks he keeps to please her patiently waiting on his bedside tables.
From behind, he bends her mid over the edge of the tub, dangerously erect cock splitting her aching entrance inch by inch. He’s big, warm, beautiful, grinding her cushy spot with his demanding thrusts sinking in and out. Around, scorching water splashes to his bucking hips, body shivering, shuddering, grunting when his pulsing cock, swollen thick hits her end.
“Fuck, kitten.” He growls, just as she lets out a pleading whimper. His pace is rough, palms kneading forcefully into her exposed breasts from behind. She’s entirely at his mercy, completely wanton, so voluptuous as he continues his hasty thrusts. Bodies jolting with pleasure, he stills, buried deep, deep inside her as he smirks, voice coursing through her ears.
“Guess we both lose.”
.
Mr Reeves has a way, and she, in her entirety is addicted; just as addicted he is to her. They relish in each other’s need, sex gratified only when fulfilled by the other.
Its so wrong, so sinful, yet so addicting.
She’d been coming, and keep coming she will each evening to please the man with the lengthy mocha locks, the man with the dark eyes and lustful gaze her way.
“Get home before your parent’s notice.” He’d give her ass a final squeeze in the early AM, after taking good care of her pleasure drained body, sex pleased and fulfilled; fatigued after their nightly session. “Tomorrow. Same time. Don’t be late.” He’d assert to her one final time, a small, lustful kiss placed to her lips as she stands at the wooden door entrance. “I’ll be waiting.”
And wait he would, each night, for the fresh, matchlessly gratifying girl next door who has him long gone; long addicted to her uncomparable pussy, her exquisite mouth, her soft, tender hands and bountiful breasts, deliciously, ruthlessly exploring her,
all
night
long,
and that’s how she’d find herself, snuck out of the refuge of her home for him, where he’d raw her all night, pounding, needily working her body,
however he pleases.

Lover's Curse Chapter Forty One - Broken Glass
Cw: Abuse, third base, codependency
Maven
I did it.
Mare is asleep beside me, still nestled in my arms. My hand glides through her hair, marveling at the sunlight caught in the caramel strands like glowing embers, intoxicating as my own flame. I could get drunk on her.
The trip to Whitefire is brief, yet far, far, too long. We stagger against her door, panting as we kick it open with a violent thrust. She hesitates. “Should we do this right now?”
“Court can wait an hour.” My lips find her ear. “Welcome home.”
We collapse into the sheets, laying sideways as we stare into each other’s eyes. My heart aches as I lean closer. How long have I been without her? How long can one gasp without air?
“May I remove your blouse?” I stroke her neck. “It’s disrupting the view.”
Her nails drag down my arms. “What if I undressed you first?”
A thief before a queen, Mare undoes me with nimble fingers and light caresses, stripping my layers until none remain. No one else has seen me this bare. No one else will.
“Shall I do the honors?” I take her hand and kiss each knuckle, long and slow, head bowed as I kneel on the bed beside her. “My queen.”
“Please.” My heart soars. “I’ll--” She breaks away. “I’ll do it myself.”
It sinks.
No matter. Watching is fine. Watching is enough.
My brand smolders with each passing second, half-M blistering as she unhooks her bra. It was formed in this bed, by her hand, the same hand I worshipped less than a minute ago. Her love bruises and bites like a feral dog, so painful I shatter if alone too long.
My love. Mine and mine alone.
“It’s been so long.” I tuck her head under my chin. “You drive me mad. I can’t think straight if you’re not by my side. When I lost you, I--” My throat wobbles. “I would have done anything. Killed anyone. Broken any promise.” I bury myself in her hair. “Never leave again. Please.”
“Anything?”
“Anything.”
“Prove it.” Mare pushes me flat on my back, breath hot against my ear. “Prove you love me. Prove you would do anything to please me.”
“I never said that.”
She flinches.
Her hands roam my chest, lingering on my collarbone. I brace myself. She’s going to finish it. Her initial will be seared into my flesh forever, staving off anyone who’d dare to claim me.
I don’t have a heart to give her. She might as well take my body.
“You know me better than anyone else.” I stare into her eyes, rich and luxurious as polished mahogany. “All my broken pieces. The light trapped within them. No one else would grieve if I died tomorrow.”
She looks away. “Cal would.”
“Fuck Cal.”
Mare smirks, closing her eyes. “Don’t mind if I do.”
“Love.” I coax her legs apart, stroking a lazy finger over her soaked core. “Has Cal ever touched you like this? Does he know you love to be pressed right here--” She moans. “--but not here?” A whisper, soft and lethal as only the truth can be. “Fucking Cal wouldn’t be very fun, would it?”
A sharp slap burns my cheek. “Shut up.”
“Make me.”
Her fingers curl against my scalp and pull, tearing razor blades of pain down my spine. “Speak and you’ll regret it.”
“I know you better than anyone else.” My neck arches to make way for her beautiful bruises, each more brutal than the last. “Would Cal let you do this? Would he understand your need for destruction?”
The next bite draws blood. “Iris does.”
“Not like I do. She’s never had to prove herself the way you and I have.” My fingers dig into her sounder scars. “Her pain has always been tempered by healers and loved ones. She’ll never understand what it means to be alone. She can never put you together again.”
A snort. “You think you can?”
“Colors, no. I love you just the way you are.”
A beat passes.
“Are you waiting for me to say the same?”
I pull her into a blistering kiss, let her bite my lips until they’re bruised as the rest of me. “I don’t need to be fixed, Mare. I’m not a project for you to pore over and use to feel better about yourself. Love me, all of me, or love no one at all. Your choice.”
“No one it is.”
“That was a rhetorical question, Mare.” I slither to her ear. “We both know you’ll never leave.”
She recoils. “What?”
“You need me.” My hand cups her cheek. “To hurt. To hold. To love. We’re shards of broken glass too painful for anyone else to touch. If I lost you, I’d shatter.” A tear, swallowed by a kiss. “And I think you would too.”
Mare trembles.
“Ssh.” I smooth her hair, showering kisses on her forehead. “I won’t let that happen. I’m yours. And you’re mine. All mine.”
Forever.
She sighs. “It’s never gonna get better, is it? It’ll be the same every time.”
I cradle her to my chest, stroke her with all the tenderness my rotten soul can muster. “So long as we’re together.”
“Yes.” She sounds far away. “So long as we’re together.”

(/Cal/)
I wonder if I will ever stop getting that horrible déjà vu, stomach sinking feeling every time something happens, or if I will just get used to reliving these years. Every moment feels like a knife digging into a wound that spills more blood every time though. At least I’m the one bleeding this time. There are far worse people who will bleed later.
Even a day spent away from this place feels like an eternity. Every second I waited for something to go wrong, for there to be an obvious deviation from what I can remember. Everything flows perfectly though, leaving me with the uneasy feeling that all of this was just too easy. If there is anything I’ve learned my first time living this, it’s never this easy.
Pacing the dimly lit hallways to my rooms, I feel like I’m looking over my shoulder and around every corner, expecting Elara to be stalking me. Expecting the fluttering of her skirts and the sound of her voice, honey sweet and icy as she says my name. I never did forget the sound of it.
The safety my room offers is fake though. The cameras are there; I know they are. Or at least, I think they are. I need to bring Mare in here to see if she can sense them. I had turned everything over looking for them, but hadn’t found anything. They could be very carefully hidden though. Closing the door and leaning against it, I take the crown off my head. I forgot how heavy it was, how much it weighed me down. It had been a comfort once upon a time, but I’ve been a man without a crown too long. I don’t need it as armor anymore. It is a weight around my ankles pulling me deeper. I’m terrified of drowning because of it. The only person who could pull me out can’t though.
The note is waiting for me on my bed, tucked into the folded edge of the sheets.  A Scarlet Guard tactic I had been witness to multiple times. Sometimes, when we stayed in the States, Mare and I would come back from dinner or lunch and there would be a note waiting for her. Tucked into the folds of the sheets.
This one is not from anyone in the Scarlet Guard. It’s written in Mare’s scratchy handwriting. I tuck it into my jacket pocket and disappear into the closet to read it.
My rooms. 12:30 tonight, don’t be late, we’ll have ten minutes. Take the tunnels.
My brow raises as I read, before I burn the note to a crisp in my palm. I hadn’t been able to see her for days while I had been at an assembly with my father. I’d kept my ear to the ground about her though. I had half a mind to visit Julian and ask about her. That might give something away though. I can’t risk that.
What news does she have? It can’t be about Maven. There’s been no word from Maven or Elara, and although I had been careful to avoid prodding too much, I never got anything out of my brother. He was still the carefully masked boy I remembered. Even when we were alone in my rooms he never dropped his mask like he had the day Mare arrived in the palace. I wonder if that slip is the only one I will ever see. He is studying me as much as I am studying him though. Every time I speak with him, I worry that I’ll make a mistake that he will pounce on without me knowing. I talk less and less around him, and I know he notices. I fear our conversations, no matter what form they come in.
Opening an empty box, I dump the ashes of Mare’s note inside before turning and stripping my jacket off. My door creeks open, and I turn toward the sound. Near silent steps make my heart pound. The light is on in the closet, whoever just entered will have an easy time finding me.
Edging toward the doorway, I glance out, only to see Maven’s form fold into his usual chair by the window. It’s as if I’ve summoned him from the folds of the shadows.
It’s late and I have to meet Mare in two hours. We can’t play a game that fast, not if he wants to chat like he always does. I edge out of the closet and his eyes catch sight of my refection in the widow. He drapes an arm over the chair as he turns to look at me and gives me a smile. “I heard you almost gave father heart palpitations this morning when you questioned one of our generals.”
I purse my lips. News travels faster than I remember here. Shrugging, I cross the room to sink into my chair as well. “There’s nothing wrong with asking in-depth questions.”
“Since when are you asking questions about missing regiments though?” He tilts his head to the side as he speaks. The warm light dances on his cheek bones. A boy playing in the light, when he prefers the shadows.
Glancing out the window at the moonless night, I shrug, hiding my discomfort at the thought. “Our people are restless. I noticed a discrepancy. We can’t make mistakes right now.”
“So a group of Red soldiers goes missing and all the sudden you are digging in the mud for answers about missing taxes, and security protocols in the villages?” Maven huffs at that and slowly begins setting up his side of the table.
I glance down at my own pieces, marveling at the irony of this moment. There are two games of chess starting, one with words and intentions, and another with pieces. “Again, there is nothing wrong with looking into the wellbeing of our people.”
His eyes dart up to me. “Is this about Mare?”
My stomach curls at how quickly he cuts to the bone of my decisions. He’d always danced around questions like that, never outright asking. Had my digging been too intensive? It’s not like I was stepping on his toes or anything yet. But maybe I was. He was supposed to be the one Mare trusted to change things, not me. I was the one who never understood her ideals.
I had asked about the regiment because I wanted to know how they were finding the new bloods though. I wanted to know how I could find them first and shuttle them to safety. Mare and I hadn’t saved many lives in our time with the Guard. I want to at least try and remedy that.
“She got me thinking.” I finally admit, as I sit back in my chair to watch his expression. He glances down at my pieces that I haven’t moved yet before picking up his queen piece and turning it over in his fingers.
You could have been my Red Queen. That’s what he had told her in cells below the Bowl of Bones. Is he already thinking about that? About what she could be to him someday?
“She has a lot of people thinking.” His words a low, a warning and a statement. “The Iral’s have been snooping around.”
“I’m sure your mother handled that with the grace she handles everything.” I swallow the bitter tone that I want to speak with. I’m supposed to be indifferent to Elara at this point. But every time I see her, my blood boils. She destroyed Mare, and she destroyed my brother before he had the chance to be who he was meant to be. She took him from me and twisted him so much that I had no chance of saving him.
His shrugs, and gives me a boyish smile he perfected in the mirror years ago. “Mare won’t have to worry as much, as long as she doesn’t slip up.”
“Is she doing well?” I ask as I finally move my pieces, determined to end our little verbal dance. The tension in his shoulders eases as I do that. Putting his piece back he leans forward and says with a smile that cuts me like a knife because of how gentle it is.
“I think she is.”
(////////)
I knock on the secret door in Mare’s rooms exactly two hours later. I have no idea where it opens too, but I assume it’s the closet because that’s where mine is. It opens a crack almost immediately and I slip inside. She must have been waiting by the door. Her room is completely dark and I reach out blindly with a hand to find her before her hand latches onto my wrist.
She chuckles when I jump and teases with a whisper, “You’re getting sloppy if you didn’t immediately grab me from behind the door.”
I light a small fire in my other hand, and bring her features into focus in the dark. We’re surrounded by clothes that I make sure to avoid with the flame. This is her closet then. That’s good to know.
Her hair is unbound, falling to her shoulders in waves that she pushes over her shoulders. Giving me a little smile before dropping my wrist, she says, “light a candle, and we’ll make this quick.”
She slips away into the shadows of her room before disappearing into the bathroom, her robe cutting across the ground. I follow her out of the closet, keeping my steps quiet like hers. A candle waits on the vanity next to it. In the time it takes for the wick to catch with my fire, I hear her turn every faucet on in the bathroom.
I follow her in there with the candle. When I glance at the running water in the tub and then the sink, she shrugs. “Precaution. I don’t think there are any listening devices but I don’t want to risk it.”
“How did you get the cameras off?” I ask quickly, wondering if I might be able to give us time in my rooms too.
“My secret.” She replies as she steps closer to me so that we’re almost chest to chest. I set the candle down on the edge of the tub in response. When I glower at her, she rolls her eyes. “I wriggled it out of Julian that the guards change stations at 12:30 and the camera room is empty for exactly ten minutes.”
“That is very, very bad security flaw.” I murmur down to her, as I bow my head to trail my lips along her hairline, inhaling the smell of her shampoo. It’s sweeter than anything she would use normally. She usually smells like oak with a hint of ozone. Now she smells like honey and lilac, it doesn’t really suit her. Her fingers rest on my chest and she whispers, “No time for that. We need to talk about Julian.”
My blood goes cold at the mention of my uncle. And she pulls away a half step to look up and meet my eye. Her breath is warm on my face as she stands on her toes to speak quickly. “I think we should tell him. He’ll understand, and he’ll be able to help.”
I almost sag in relief. I thought she was going to tell me that he had figured something out. “That’s one more person that knows what’s going on though, and one more person we have to keep in the loop.”
As wonderful as it would be to have my uncle involved, he’ll want to get Sara involved too, and soon there would be four of us all trying to hide the same thoughts from Elara. At least if it’s just me and Mare, we can be far enough apart and vary our thoughts enough to keep our secret.
“I can keep him in the loop during our Lessons. I really think we need him, Cal.” She argues, her fingers closing around mine as she squeezes. I shake my head and gesture between us.
“And what happens if you tell him and he tells us to run? Or what if he messes something up by trying to do something himself?”
She turns her eyes away and chews on her lip for a moment, contemplating. We have maybe five minutes left before I have to disappear out of her rooms. We don’t have time to get into a full blown pros and cons argument.
Reaching out to cup her cheek and turn her head to face me, I whisper, “I want his help as much as you do, but if we tell him, we might risk never finding Giselle. We don’t know what the effects of it could be.”
Exhaling an irritated sigh through her nose, she grumbles, “You’re probably right. Doesn’t mean I have to like it.”
“You never like it when I’m right.”
Her lips twist at my words, until she reaches up to rest her hand on mine. In the dim light it’s still hard to read her expression when she asks, “Are you all right?”
I look away before saying, “Maven came to see me tonight.”
“Is that out of the ordinary?” Her voice is cold and her eyes are narrowed when I look back at her. Shaking my head in answer, I turn away to run my hand through my hair. “He was asking about something I did earlier today.”
Her silence is brittle and I tense for only a moment, knowing she will probably drop kick me out a window when she hears what I did. Glancing at her over my shoulder I say, “I was asking about Storm Legion, and about the Reds that were transferred into it.”
“Shade’s legion?” She murmurs dubiously, her brows scrunching as she thinks over those words. Suddenly they shoot up to her hairline and she spits in furious whisper, “Cal!”
“I had asked about it the first time too. Just… not as in depth.”
“You just told me we couldn’t bring Julian in on this because we have no idea what effect it might have, but you’re running around willy nilly doing who knows what by asking questions you shouldn’t be!” She shoves her hands into her hair and her fury is enough that the lights in the chandelier overhead flicker to life for a moment.
“I’m trying to help us later—”
“While almost getting yourself caught! What were you thinking? Better yet, were you even thinking at all?”
“You don’t need to talk to me like I’m a child,” I snap. She immediately falls silent, but the anger still flickers in her eyes. She inhales slowly and exhales at the same speed, like she’s buying time.
Eventually, when I assume she’s calmed down enough not to scream, she asks, “What did you find out?”
“Nothing, no one would tell me anything.” The same thing had happened before. I had been told not to worry about it, that it was just another regiment of soldiers. The same excuses had come out this time too.
“Stop poking at things you shouldn’t poke at, Cal.” She demands before walking to the candle and picking it up. I watch her movements, trying to read exactly how upset she is. I suppose if she were on the verge of killing me like I thought she would for half a second, she would have called me Tiberias. “You need to go, time’s almost up.”
“Mare—”
“Go, Cal. We can’t make another mistake.”
When we had stayed in Paradise Valley the first time since the end of the war, we had made a promise. We had both agreed that we would never go to bed angry with each other. If something happened to the other the next day, we didn’t want our last memories to be of fighting. It was a good promise; one I didn’t intend to break just because we are back here.
Drawing myself to my full height, I plant my feet and say, “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to be hypocritical. I was trying to help us later though.”
Her eyes dance to me for a moment, wary of my apology and my reasoning. She looks away again, her hand tightening around the candle. “I know.” As if those words have the rest of her anger in them, her shoulders drop and her fingers loosen on the candle.
My shoulders relax too, even when she turns quickly to face me again. Her voice is softer this time, but just as forceful. “You don’t need to be such a damn hero. You don’t need to try and right whatever wrongs you committed. You right them eventually, that should be enough.”
I hadn’t been trying to do that, at least, I didn’t think that had been my intentions. Maybe she was right though. I step closer to her again, sliding my hand around her waist as I guide her out of the bathroom and toward the closet. “I’ll keep that in mind.”
As soon as we step back in the closet, she stands on her toes to press a kiss to my cheek. “Be careful, please. We have... so much waiting for us.”
She wanted to say something else, I know she did. There’s no time to ask questions though. I’ll have to ask her about it another time. Turning my head to complete the kiss for a heartbeat, I murmur, “No more righting wrongs. I got it.”
Still her fingers close around my mine as I open the door, and trail along them as I leave, like she is trying to hold on for a long as possible. I wish I could go back through the door once its closed though and crawl into bed with her and pretend that we aren’t here. I wonder if she feels the same way.
(//////////)
The days are monotonous while I wait for the ball. I ease into the schedules and the meetings, keeping my mouth shut like I told Mare I would. It doesn’t stop me from wanting to strangle Volo Samos with my bare hands sometimes though. Or from wanting to argue with my father until we’re both out of breath. Right now is one of those times.
“Between us, conscription letters might be what gives me early arthritis,” he grumbles, even though I can hear the laughter in his tone. I look up from the papers I’m reading to watch him flex his fingers a few times. The large stack of letters on his other side still waiting to be signed makes my stomach drop.
“I suppose you could sign less of them.” I murmur before looking back to my papers. I don’t have the patience today to joke about something like that. I’m still nauseous from hearing about another young Red legion that didn’t make it back from the trenches. Fifty eighteen year olds too ill prepared for what waited for them. Even out of the corner of my eye I can see his expression fall.
I feel like the time that I am spending with him should be a gift, but almost everything he says makes me want to shout him down. I had been just as ignorant too once upon a time. This is the curse I suppose of reliving the past. Sighing, I set my book of numbers down and massage the bridge of my nose. “I’m sorry, I’m tired.”
He watched me carefully before saying, “You’re working too hard. If it’s not Shadow Legion, it something else.”
I work harder someday to fix the mistakes our people made, I want to grumble. I had plenty of sleepless nights after I abdicated. Shaking myself out, I lean back in my chair to avoid meeting his eye. He tilts his head to the side, his expression softening further. “It’ll get easier once we handle this Scarlet Guard and return to Archeon.”
“I’ll be at the front by that point.” A lie. I never make it there with Shadow Legion. But I do make it to another front.
“You were always more comfortable there.” He reasons, and reaches for the next letter. The only reason I was so comfortable there was because he had pushed me harder than Maven to be there. Elara would have never let her son go to the front as much as I did. I have a feeling she was hoping a stray bullet with my name on it would embed itself in my skull. It would certainly make her coup easier. Too bad that bullet was never made.
“Do you think my mother would be happy with that?” I ask finally bringing my eyes back to him. The moment the words are out, I want to swallow them, especially when his eyes shutter and then light with a fire I hadn’t seen in a long time. He sets his pen down and speaks with the dangerously low tone that made me shut up as a kid. “That is a question I don’t have an answer for.”
Maybe it’s how bitter I am with the whole situation, maybe it’s the fact that I read her diary and know the truth of her desires. But I can’t keep the next words from escaping. “Something tells me she wouldn’t.”
“Your mother was young. She wasn’t well after you were born.”
“Funny, Julian says—”
“Is he where all this is coming from?” His voice is quiet thunder, a storm about to break. I was in dangerous territory now. I don’t drop my gaze, but I do pull back into my seat a little bit, giving some ground. He’s a blood hound though, and smells trouble for my mindset. He won’t let it go now. “He’s always been soft about the Red situation. Has he been pushing you to question things that are not your business yet? Has he been speaking to you about treasonous things?”
“No.” I state coolly. I knew Julian and my father had a rough relationship, especially because of Elara. If he is searching for a reason to dismiss Julian entirely I won’t let it come from me. Especially with the safe haven he creates for Mare. Another misstep, another poor choice of words. Mare would kill me if she found out I was the reason she lost her teacher.
“If he is whispering poison in your ear, I worry for our little Red girl that we have entrusted him with.” His hands curl into fists on the table and his bracelets spark. I swallow, trying to think of the words that will fix this. Why couldn’t I just keep my emotions in check? I was smarter than this. I’d picked the wrong fight and now I was going to have to dig my way out.
“Julian hasn’t told me anything. I’ve just… I’ve just been thinking about my mother a lot. Leading up to Queenstrial I couldn’t stop thinking about her. I know so little about her.” I’d know about that deal they made since the time I could understand what it had meant. While my father was not the first to marry outside of Queenstrial, he would be the last. Elara would be the last Queen chosen by the ancient rite.
My words soften the anger that he has barely reigned in, and he slowly sinks into his chair. Shaking his head and reaching up to pinch the bridge of his nose, he says, “I’ve told you about her. You know everything I know.”
Lie, lie, lie.
I’ve got myself out though, I won’t argue again. “I’m sorry for bringing it up.”
When he looks up at me this time, his face is more drawn than I remember. There is far more grey in his hair than my nightmares let me remember too. He drunk himself to an early old age. I’d sworn to myself I wouldn’t do the same.
The door into the council room opens once more, announcing the beginning of our next meeting. Maven enters before anyone else, dressed for the event. He looks like a prince, like a king. How could I ever think I could compete with him. He had been right when he told Mare I was a blunt force weapon. I wasn’t Farley, who was good at questioning orders and making decision. I was good at being put on target and used. If this whole series of events didn’t show that, I didn’t know what else did.
He eyes the two of us carefully, reading the tension in the room as he sits on the other side of our father. He’ll catalogue that away for later, probably to inform his mother that there is something wedging itself between us. Wonderful. I’ve slipped again. I can only hope this doesn’t come to bite me.
I give him a smile nonetheless though, and he returns it. We play the parts of loving brothers easily. No wonder I believed everything. He’s a good enough actor for both of us. This time at least I know my script, and I know my role. “This tax briefing won’t be easy today.”
His lips curl up at the challenge. “Are they ever?”

Hi! First off, I absolutely love your fics! And I have a fun question-if the red Queen characters were parents-what stereotypical parent would they be? Like a soccer mom, overprotective, super loving, etc? Thanks love! 💗
I don’t know how long this was in my inbox bc I missed the notif... oops. Sorry for the late reply.
Marecal: You already know this one (maybe) bc of A Good Neighbor. Mare is a super chill, “One black coffee” but super present mother. Like, staying up till late hours to help the brat finish their school project kind of mom. Cal is the “we have food at home”, responsible one. He has one of those whiteboard organizers with colorful magnets. In a lot of ways he is a Karen but without the racism and right-wing aspects. And of course, Dad jokes™ abound.
Shade and Farley: Theirs is the fun house. Farley supports children's bodily autonomy by letting them run around the place like demons but compensates by being a bit of a killjoy when it comes to letting Clara indulge in more capitalist or sexist pastimes like watching Marvel films or makeup. Shade is a lot like Mare, in that he is chill, but when he does the “one black coffee” then he laughs and is like “jk, and a sundae”.
Evane: Eve is ultra-competitive. Her children are high performance, and they eat, breathe, and live success. They have a boy and a girl and they are absolutely terrifying in their wit and their accomplishments. Don’t mess with them. But Eve is actually a big softie for her kids, she worries a lot about their mental health and wraps them in “Mom, please, I can’t breathe” hugs at least twice a day. Elane is the artistic, spiritual “let’s finger paint how we feel today” mother. Everyone thinks she is the calm to her wife’s wrath but boy are they wrong. When it comes to their babies, if someone harms them, she plots their demise and Eve executes it.
Kilorn and Cam: Kilorn is the “McDonald’s, McDonald’s, McDonald’s!”, “I’m one with the children” father. He has great conflict solving skills and that’s why his children are never grounded. This means Cameron has to take care of the stuff like school, extracurricular activities, family meetings, etc. She doesn’t mind though, because she admits, without Kilorn, she would be a helicopter parent, and her kids would be just as stressed as her.
Maven (+Thomas): He wouldn’t have children but he would be a loving uncle that showers his nephews with gifts and the means to misbehave. You want to sneak out to Archeon for a concert and Cal doesn’t let you because it’s a school night? No problem. Here’s some money and my apartment keys so you can crash here afterward. Thomas then sends the apology flowers and pie to Mare and Cal.

Weekly Wrap up: 12/20/2020 - 12/27/2020
It’s the end of the first week here at this blog, though technically it’s only the second day that we’ve been live. On Sundays, I’ll be posting weekly wrap-ups with what I’ve been reading all week, my thoughts, and hopefully a graphic that I’ve spent too much time on. At least that’s the idea. School may not allow for blogging much, but I’ll wing it when I get there.
In case the graphic doesn’t load, everything is mentioned down here again so there’s nothing to miss! Keep in mind, there will be spoilers for titles mentioned below the line, and also please do not spoil me if I’ve mentioned that I’ve not finished it yet. :)
This week I read...
In A Holidaze by Christina Lauren
This Time Next Year by Sophie Cousens
Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin
Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard (in progress)
In A Holidaze by Christina Lauren
Rating: 5/5
Warnings: no hard warnings. This is a very light read.
Thoughts about this book
I picked this book as part of my December box for Book of the Month Club and I almost didn’t read it this month at all. After finishing Serpent & Dove though, I decided that I really wanted some holiday cheer since I didn’t have any. It’s a good thing I did because this ended up being my favorite read of the year, and right at the final buzzer too.
Our protagonist, Mae, ends up in a time loop when she makes a stray wish to the universe: Show me what will make me happy. I had my doubts about whether I would like the plot since it seems a little silly, and I wanted something with some substance. Pleased to admit that I was wrong about all of my thoughts at the beginning. Thing is, this book is silly. In fact, it’s downright hilarious and I laughed out loud so many times I lost track. It’s also serious in the right spots, but really it’s a tender story about getting your one true love. However, it’s not only a love story.
It takes a while for Mae to throw caution to the wind. Approximately two return trips to the plane (with a courtesy whack to her brother’s face, actually) in, Maelyn Jones decides that none of this matters because she’s just going to start over anyway. In a fantastic outburst, she barks at her dad not to eat the cookie (he’s going to break his tooth on it), and a slew of other orders because she’s so fed up with it all. Then we see this woman start living when she hasn’t been, and to be completely honest, you don’t even realize it’s happening at first.
She doesn’t realize it either.
Andrew Hollis is the older brother of Theo (and Theo’s been carrying a torch for Mae, it seems) and also the brother Mae has spent years of her life pining after. They’re wicked close, wondrously hilarious together, and by the end of the book - No. By the time I was a quarter of the way through, I was pretty sure I was going to be in love with him too. Half-way in, I knew I was.
I could go on and on about this book, but I’m going to spare you because a) I need to learn to be more concise with reviews and b) I really want you to read it and see if you love it as much as I did.
The Funniest Moment for Me:
I simply cannot pick one moment, but if I have to, I plucked the one out of my head that I thought of first.
When they were kids, Mae painted their initials on the bottom of a mug. The full thing of MJ + AH and it’s adorable. Later, Mae admits it to Andrew, and he holds it up to the light in an equally adorable way and realizes that he can still see it, even though it’s been painted over.
Favorite Scenes
I’d like to say the entire book, just for the record, but I can’t. Or can I? I kind of make the rules for my own posts, don’t I?
Every single moment spent in the boathouse, even the ones that made my eyes water. They’re so perfect together, and I just love this couple, and this story so much I can hardly begin to explain it.
What I learned from this story:
Mae is stuck in a rut. In a job she doesn’t love, living with her parents, and without the love life that she wants. The shift in her is a dramatic one, and you have to root for her. I know I did because I saw too much of my own traits in her. A job I don’t love anymore, a position in life I don’t want anymore, the list goes on.
Mae didn’t need the great love of her life to change everything, but she starts knocking down walls, and starts taking everything she wants. She tells the truth (that she has feelings for this man, that she hates her job,) and she tells Andrew. She quits her job in the twenty seconds of bravery that she’s always had, but has just unlocked.
So, if there is something to take away from this, it’s that you’ve just gotta go for it.
This Time Next Year by Sophie Cousens
Rating: 3/5
Warnings: Therapist Sessions, Mention of Miscarriage, A Garbage Parent, Depression, and Anxiety. Please mind that these warnings are for mentions inside the novel as well, and not necessarily something that happens to either of the leads.
Thoughts:
This one was part of my November box for Book of the Month Club! I decided to read this since NYE is right around the corner, and bam, this one happens to open on NYE.
I enjoyed this book. It was a fun romance, but it was more than that too. Minnie Cooper believes in a New Years jinx that started the night she was born, when her mother helps another woman through labor and delivery, and this woman wins a prize for the first baby born. Not only that, this woman takes what was meant to be Minnie’s name: Quinn.
Listen, the joke Minnie Cooper was funny for about twenty pages before I really began to hate it. The book is over 300 pages. It’s one of those things I could deal with, but never really got past because it annoyed me so much. Moving on!
A chance encounter leads to the meeting of Quinn and Minnie at a birthday party on NYE. As you can guess, it’s a party for Quinn. There are several encounters between these two through the book, and each one of them left me wanting to get to the next one.
The main storyline is told in a linear fashion, but there are flashbacks from both characters too. At first, you may not realize that these two have met before. Or maybe you do realize it and I’m just so oblivious it hurts. Probably that one.
I liked the romance, but what really caught my eye was the issues raised within the book. One character regularly attends therapist sessions in an effort to help themselves, in an effort to get better. The terrible issue of miscarriage is brought up (but this does not happen to either of our leads, but is still important!) and then we are living through a year in the life of these characters as they try to find what makes them happy.
I liked this book, but I didn’t love it. It ranked as a ⅗ for me for a few reasons. I wanted more development. The romance felt a little lacking in some spaces, and I’m not sure if that’s because I had just finished In A Holidaze the day before, but it felt lukewarm to me.
I appreciated the issues raised, and mostly enjoyed the way they were handled, but I wish some of them had been expanded on. I wasn’t a fan of brief time skips (where they could be a few months at a time) because it felt like a hole in the plot.
Minnie Cooper. It’s hard to get into a story where I dislike the name so much.
I just did not enjoy a part of the book that involved Minnie, her best friend Leila, and the proposal for Leila from her boyfriend that Minnie helped plan. It was meant to be funny, but it was more cheesy and it fell flat for me.
Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin
Rating: 5/5
Warnings: Misogyny, violence in parts, religious zealots (in case that’s something that makes you uncomfortable like it did me), derogatory slurs toward women.
This one has been on my TBR for a long time, and I finally dug into it. From the first day of reading, I was not sure I was going to finish it. Religion plays a central focal point to the plot of the first book, and one of my friends told me to press on, because it’s not as prevalent in book two. I don’t know about that yet, because I haven’t read it.
I have so many pages marked in this book for how much I loved it. Truly. Lou is witty, quick to snap, and Reid’s character development is something I’ve marveled at. Going in, I knew there would be a forced marriage, but I wasn’t at all sure how it would come into play. I have to admit, it was a pretty creative way to go about it.
Watching these two characters orbit each other, with each of their harsher exteriors beginning to come down has to be my favorite part, and the main reason I pressed through the parts that creeped me out.
Reading Reid say the word fuck was a highlight for me. I have so much to say about this one, but I’m planning to write a proper review, and to show my annotations, so I’ll save that for another day!
Red Queen (Red Queen #1) by Victoria Aveyard
Warnings: None that I’ve seen yet.
Rating: too soon to tell
This is a book club read for my friends and I. It’s taken a bit for me to get into, but these are some of my notes up to where I was last night at page 93.
It’s quite interesting, and books set in a dystopian world have never held my attention well. So, I’ve been struggling to really sink into it versus how well I fell into Caraval.
The main character is beginning to grow on me more, and I’m curious to learn more about Cal and Maven. I’m certain that Cal is going to break my heart (don’t tell me if he’s going to) and also what will happen with Kilorn now that Mare will no longer be living in Stilts.
I’ll finish it in the next couple of days, so hopefully I’ll have really grown to like it by next week’s post.
What about you? What have you been reading this week? Sorry this is so long too. Eventually I’ll learn how to be more the point because nearly two thousand words is kind of embarrassing.
