Noel’s route is about.. hmm.. not to be corny but following your heart? But seriously, some people are the kind of people to keep feelings locked away because of whats ‘expected’ of them, which can result in hurt not only to themselves but others as well, even if it’s not intentional.
H’s route is about identity and family. Obviously your family plays a big part in your identity and finding yourself growing up. Especially if you come from a tight-knit family, but, finding yourself without the input and influence of your family is just as or if not more important.
S’s route is very much about realizing your worth on both ends! Self-worth issues can come in multiple forms whether its in relationships, performances, hobbies, etc., which totally sucks but if you don’t do anything to work on them it like, ultra sucks.
Valerio’s route is about mistakes. Realizing you made a mistake is difficult and admitting to it is even more difficult especially if you’re.. prideful. But there comes a certain point where you have to decide if putting your pride aside is more important than losing a person/people close to you.

From the release's liner notes:
On September 4th 1995 some of the best bands and musicians in Britain entered studios all over Europe. Their intention was that by the end of the day they would each have recorded a track for this album, with the aim of raising money for and focusing, attention on, the children caught up in the war in former Yugoslavia. At the time of writing the artists lending their support for the project are Blur, Boo Radleys, The Charlatans, The Chemical Brothers, Neneh Cherry, Brian Eno, Noel Gallagher, The Levellers, The Manic Street Preachers, Portishead, Radiohead, Suede, Stone Roses, Terrorvision, Paul Weller and Andrew Weatherall (with apologies to others still to be confirmed). This album is a result of everyone's help. The full track listing is still unknown at the time of writing so open it up, put it on and play loud.
Y'know, for having such a star-studded lineup of a bunch of really good UK bands, I was expecting a lot more from this comp. That's not to say it's bad; it's good. It's just that I was expecting this to be great and it's not. But there's still a handful of tracks that rip hard. I'm pretty sure (though not totally confident) that this comp premiered Radiohead's "Lucky," which was included on OK Computer almost two years later. The Orbital track brings a brief bit of ambient techno into the mix and the Portishead and Sinéad O'Connor songs are tremendous, too. But really, this comp represents a few isolated spurts of 90s UK genius surrounded by deserts of rushed, sloppy, inauthentic, and tiresome mediocrity. I'd make an Oasis pun at this point, but their opener here, which also has Johnny Depp and Kate Moss on it, isn't that good. But the songs that are good are really good.
Cool concept to have all the bands record on the same day and the compilation was made for a more than worthy cause, but the product probably could’ve been a lot better, given how good the bands on it are.

A while ago, I made a post discussing my thoughts on Nu and Lambda, in it I also described why I personally can’t ship them, even if I also said you could do mental gymnastics to ignore the Saya clone stuff (read it to understand what I mean).
But, they aren’t the only ones to have this issue; What about Noel and Celica, two more MAIN characters who have a similar issue in their storytelling.
I will go into that now, starting with Noel (beware possibly long-ass post)
Noel is one of the main characters, and one of the most important characters in the setting (to many fan’s displeasure), so of course she is highly tied to the MC Ragna, even getting a lot of shippy moments with him. This is in spite of her being a Murakumo.
Now in my Nu and Lambda thing I said that b/c Ars Magus is weird and not an exact science and seem to be made from Saya’s soul not her DNA you could do mental gymnastics to ignore that and make the shipping okay. Could you do that with Noel? I say NO.
Not only is Noel MUCH closer to Saya (seriously put a picture of her next to young Saya from flashbacks and she looks exactly like what she’d grow up to be), but she is also apparently made from the largest chunk of her soul.
The games seem to go along this thought process with her:
Noel is a Murakumo -> Noel is not human -> Noel is a weapon -> cue angst
but the fans have the thought process of
Noel is a Murakumo -> Murakumo Units are clones of Saya -> Saya is Ragna’s sister -> Murakumo Units are clones of Ragna’s sister -> they are Ragna’s sisters.
This gets even more stupid once Izanami comes in and we learn SHE is Saya, not Noel (her being an amnesiac Saya would’ve made things much easier), because then it is like “See, Noel isn’t Saya, THAT’S Saya!”. Also Blazblue has a while thing about roles, like Ragna has ONE little brother and ONE little sister: Jin and Saya, respectively. But fans say he can have multiple little sisters but the story doesn’t because “roles” or whatever (using the weird stage terms that Rachel and Amane use).
Like, here is an idea I had for CS’ plot with more emphasis on Noel actually being Saya rather than just a clone/copy, or at least more focus on her connection with Ragna to HAVE that sibling instead of just taking the “I am not human” thing from the Murakumo:
They escape from the Cauldron at the end of CT, and Ragna now gets a god look at her, maybe he does think that this IS Saya, and you can have a bit of an emotional scene here, but Noel runs off b/c A. she is still shy girl and a MAN is so close to her, and B. this is still the SS-Class Criminal Ragna the Bloodedge. A bit of angst there because Ragna supposedly thought something horrible happened to Saya (based on a flashback in CF with Jubei).
Much, MUCH later, he can meet up with Noel again, before she is kidnapped by Terumi for the final act of being the Godslayer, maybe with Makoto there. This is where they can actually talk and bond for a bit so Ragna has an actual reason to go running off an saving her. This is where Ragna can explain his little sister to the two, maybe thinking that he got Noel confused for Saya since she looks just like her.
But, then they start piecing together everything. Noel has weird memories of Ragna, and she has amnesia from before the destruction of Ibukido after the Ikaruga Civil War. SO, what if Noel IS just an Amnesiac Saya who has trauma induced amnesia from the Ibukido stuff? This is great for Noel because all this time she might also be worried about her humanity after the shit with Nu in CT’s true ending, and maybe a cryptic line from Terumi/Hazama, but now with this information, she reaffirms that she is HUMAN, she has a family (imagine the reaction when she learns that major dickbag Kisaragi is her big brother). We could then maybe cut back to someone watching them cryptically commentating, and when we cut back Noel is in the middle of telling Ragna, her newly re-discovered big brother, about what she’s been up to, her adoptive family and her time at the Military Academy. Maybe here we could also have a gag reel where, like a later one where they try and help Celica improve her sense of direction, Ragna and Noel cook something. We get some fun-sibling time and get to see Ragna’s cooking hobby in semi-canon action. He’d call her Saya, but everyone else calls her Noel since that’s what they know her as (think of it similar to how Vegeta calls Goku by his Sayan name “Kakarot” while everyone else just calls him his Earth name).
THEN we have Terumi come in and kidnap her.
Rachel stops Ragna from running after them for cryptic warning BS, then the fight with Jin, then the fight with Terumi, etc. everything happens the same from there. Only it isn’t some random stranger who Ragna all of a sudden is risking his life for, this is the little sister he lost so long ago.
Then comes the shit with Izanami. One idea that had was that Noel IS still a Murakumo AND Saya, but she is Saya’s good half fragmented off when Izanami was made. Izanami is one part the Origin’s Drive and one part Saya’s Darkness. So Noel breaking off from Saya is kind of like M.Bison from Street Fighter removing all the good from his soul to use Psycho Power, resulting in Rose.
Then in CP, we can have an extra layer of conflict because Noel is trying to save Tsubaki, who points out that she is affiliated with a wanted criminal, Ragna the Bloodedge. Remember, Noel just wants to be a normal girl with a normal life. She already has the issue of her humanity with being a Murakumo, but then you have the more societal BS of being related to a super criminal. She cannot be “normal girl“ Noel Vermilion, AND friends with Ragna the Bloodedge, SS-Class Criminal at the same time.
Tell me that wouldn’t all be a really good alternative.
Also being able to refer to the three MCs as “The Siblings” is just so much easier.
and then we got Celica A. Mercury.
she flops back and forth between, Ragna’s mom, and Ragna’s love interest.
Celica A. Mercury in Blazblue Chronophantasma, is well, a Chronophantasma. A copy of someone who isn’t supposed to be alive in the current timeline. Specifically, Celica is the younger sister of the Great Sage Nine, one of the Six Heroes who defeated the Black Beast 100 years before the setting of the games. the ORIGINAL Celica, after the Six Heroes were almost wiped out by Terumi, proceeded to become a nun/sister in a church built over the remains of the Black Beast’s corpse, as she has a unique Order power to nullify seithr. With her healing magic keeping her young and healthy she lived there alone until Jubei brought the three siblings, Ragna Jin and Saya, to be under her care for an undisclosed amount of time. This is where people get her being Ragna’s mom, even thought nuns/sisters are more just general caretakers instead of parents, but she is still a female maternal figure who looked after Ragna so you can see where people get that.
But then you get “teen” Celica, the one the games show in the story. She is from the Dark War, where she actually met Ragna first. Ragna was sent back in time, with Amnesia, to fill the role of the unsung 7th Hero “Bloodedge” and stop the Black Beast for a year allowing Nine to arm humanity with Ars Magus. Celica apparently fell in love with him because she is very affectionate and familiar with Ragna once she is brought to the future as a Chronophantasma.
The story really does ping pong between her being very motherly, specifically her scolding Ragna and Jin for fighting in CP, and just being a naive child, see her complaining when people get on her case about her awful sense of direction. But it is really hard because the image of the sister seems to flash over her, which the other characters seem to notice, but much like Noel and Saya, no one in the story EVER seems to connect the dots and have that change the relationship between them.
Now I personally don’t like the ship because she is a naive child in a woman’s body, with the stupid no sense of direction gag, to her scolding Ragna and Jin as if they were Natsu and Gray from Fairy Tail who are just fighting for some dick measuring contest when we all KNOW the actual reason is more complicated but the story just seems to abandon that and GGRRRR!!!
But, looking at Celica, really you can;t do the whole “Schrodinger’s Relationship” thing like they’re doing with Saya and Noel and the Murakumos. They need to COMMIT, to a role.
If Celica is Ragna’s MOM, no ifs and or buts, then 1. They need to make her less of a cutesy child. and 2. Maybe age up her design, Litchi has the design vibe of someone who is “older” than the cast, maybe something similar to that. Just imagine another angsty scene of Ragna meeting this woman who has the same face as the Sister who raised him who he KNOWS 100% is dead, so no mistaken identity shit like I already suggested with Saya/Noel, and her looking at him with her face is just MOCKING him, especially since his first two meetings with her in CP are after he gets his ass kicked (once after he is sent back in time after Nu kicking his butt, and once after Kagura knocks him out and arrests him). Also you’d have to undo ALL ship teasing in Phase Shift, or just use one of my friend’s ideas and just have Ragna be a reincarnation of Bloodedge instead of going back in time.
If you want Celica to be the cute girl love interest, and this is the option I feel most people would want either b/c shipping or the cute girl waifu factor that Japan likes (I base some of m reasoning based on “could this be made”, then you’d have to undo all connections between Celica and the Sister. My simple idea was instead of Celica living all those years she dies there, but Nine also had a bunch of other caretakers go with her to help take care of the church. I mean Nine is one of the Great Sages AND a member of the Six Heroes you’re telling em she wouldn’t use some of tat fame and authority to make sure his little sister is safe when she is all alone out there. Seems almost out of character with how fiercely protective Nine was of Celica. Of course this all means that the Sister that raises Ragna and the siblings is less important as she is just a nameless backstory character in a similar vein to Noel’s adoptive Parents, but is is a much easier thing to do than the previous option.
Either of those two options are good IMO, but I still think Celica needs to grow up a bit and release how much everyone around her is an asshole before I can fully ship her and Ragna.
So, what do you guys think? Noel being fully Ragna’s sister leading to much more interesting plot stuff, and Celica committing to either the cute girl love interest or mom role. I feel lkike my ideas are good, but what d you guys think?

I just thought he was much cheesier in this dialogue then any other characters I've read which is funny because I like Max from Be my princess 2) & Noel from Seduced in the sleepless city (I just couldnt really get into when hes in the other characters stories hes cool but it was my least favorite route in the game)

Who’s the funniest characters?
Alone to me would be Ichtys and Hidetaka (because of the things they say) HOWEVER I have 2 dynamic duos that make for really hilarious dialouge:
1) Ota & Baba (kissed by the baddest bidder) I think everyone who's ever read this group of stories can totally agree with me when I say they are the most hilarious comedy pairing out their. They way they play off of each other is PERFECTION! Comic gold!
2) Oliver & Werner (Be my princess 2) now hear me out cause some of yall are probably like huh!? Well to me they are hilarious for the same reason Ota and Baba are they play off of one another amazingly! It's like Werners the big brother and Oliver's the younger one. It's fun to see them two especially when Oliver is getting into trouble for sneaking out of his duties and Werner catches him because he's placed a tracking device on him. To me it's a cute funny not comic gold but really funny.
Who’s your favorite MC?
Hmm this ones tough because for the most part I dont really care for the MC in any of them. Mainly because I'm literally yelling at her while reading most of the stories for some stupid shit. But if I had to choose a favorite probably be between either the MC from Be my princess 2 (especially in Sieg's main story when she chews him out in his office) or the MC in Masquerade Kiss.

Which has the best artwork by Voltage?
Damn! That's hard to alot of Voltages artwork is great! But I'm gonna have to say my top 2 that are actually tied for first is Kings of Paradise & After School Affairs.
Who’s route was most interesting?
Oh god again! Hmmm this ones another tough one most of the routes I've read in stories are really amazing and as you can tell already I'm a highly indecisive person! So I have a top 3 not in a specific order:
1) Hidetaka Sera (After school affairs) In the many stories I had read before this one I had never read any where it tackled bullying and attempted suicide I think it really hit home for me making it truly moving.
2) Mitsuru Sanada (First Love Diaries -A kiss on the beach-) Even though Mitsuru is up there on my list of least favorite characters (hes not my least favorite though probably would be #4) his story touches issues such as teen pregnancy. To me controversial issues being drawn out in a story and the way Voltage has it are very moving and amazing! It really sucked me in.
3) Nozomu Fuse (True love sweet lies) his story even though not dealing with controversial issues really it was quite the read and is on my highly recommend list. Sometimes Voltage has a tendency of making stories pretty easy to figure out but with Nozomus it shocked me in the end and left me on the edge of my seat I simply couldnt put it away!
Who’s route was most boring?
Probably Kyosukes from Rose in the Embers. I mean yes hes incredibly gorgeous but to me it really lack lustered and it was a pretty typical love story between social classes. The only part that truly intrigued me was the prologue and how she came to meet the guys and how she choose him. No judgement for the ones who love Rose in the Embers. It's just that after I read it I was pretty dissapointed.
What’s your favorite character type?
Sexy smirks & Abs always get to me physically (a.k.a Hidetaka, Rui & Yosuke!). However tbh I dont think ii have a specific type of character I go for I mean if you look at my two favorite characters both Hidetaka & Werner are very different from each other. So to me I think it's all about the way the MC and the character bounce off of one another so well it makes for some hilarious and yet amazing dialogue. When I feel like I'm saying in my head "hey! This sounds like the kind of conversation I could possibly have" then the characters got my attention. But a sense of humor is a total must for me even if it's small jabs here and there like Werner with Oliver from Be my princess 2.
Who’s the most annoying MC?
I dont have a specific because as I said alot of the MCs in different stories their actions make me wanna smack my damn head! And make me wonder how have they survived that many years in their lives. Lmao
What’s your favorite Otome moment?
This one is simple...I dont have one. In truth I read the stories to get away from the stress of my everyday life. So any moment I have where I can laugh or smile because I'm reading an amazing story or even a moment where I'm smacking my head over an MC to me is a time where I'm able to relax and breathe away from all the stress which makes every otome moment I have a great one.

February Wrap Up (Finally)
Okay! So I’m finally getting to this...five days late. Oops. Just to clear that up, I started a reading journal towards the end of February and wanted to do entries for the month of February before making this post. I’m hoping that this will help me organize my thoughts for my reviews. So I can actually... post reviews.
Anyway. Here we go! I’m going to begin with my overall thoughts and then go into my stats and put reviews under the cut so if you haven’t read these books and want to avoid spoilers you can!
Overall thoughts on this month’s reading:
I DNF’d one-third of my TBR this month (two of six. I say one third like it’s so many more than that). It’s a little funny that I had so much more success with the books I hadn’t actually planned to read than my TBR. I’m also kind of surprised that I made it through some of the books that I did, when I DNF’d other books for similar reasons. I did go into this month knowing that this was going to be a difficult bunch of books to get through,
I think I’m going to have to adjust my Goodreads reading challenge. I’ve already more than halfway through it and its only February. I'm honestly surprised. I didn’t think I was going to make it through the 52 I had planned.

I was having trouble getting into the book in the first place, and then I realized that these were six year old kids. Being trained for war. Against aliens. As I have a sister who’s six, this didn’t sit well with me.
Two Star Books:
Echo by Alyson Noel
I was really dissappointed in this book. I really enjoyed the first book in the Soul Seekers book, Fated. I liked the worldbuilding, the relationship between Daire and Dace, the concept of the Echo. But I had too many complaints about this book. Mainly with Cade. I feel like I could have liked him more if he had some actual development and clearer motivations. Though, I think the attempted rape scene was a little much (that’s an understatement.) I think it would be nice if there were a YA book where the female MC wasn’t assaulted, or at least that addresses it properly afterward.
A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas
I’m honestly surprised that I finished this one, after I DNF’d another book for similar things happening. I didn't like Feyre much. She didn't seem to have much moe to her character other than painting and hunting. For someone who was meant to be so strong willed, she seemed to change her mind too easily. Rhysand...I don’t know where it start with him. He’s not much of one here, but it’s pretty obvious that they’re setting him up as a love interst in the later books. Can we stop having abusive boyfriends in YA lit? Tamlin was a little pathetic. Maybe don’t alienate the one person that’s your shot at freedom? Maybe? Feyre and Tamilin’s relationship was cute, but it wasn't really all that convincing.
Three Star Books:
The Maze Runner by James Dashner
The Maze runner was good. I’m not sure if it was good enough to deserve the hype it received. I did not like that there was so much that was left unanswered in the beginning. It’s one thing to withhold information to create interest. It’s another to taunt your readers by having a character ask the questions, and the others refusing to give an answer. I did think the ending was an interesting twist, to stage a ‘rescue’ and then have it turn out to be apart of the trials.
Love Drugged by James Klise
There’s...a lot to unpack with this one. At first, the general premise made me feel a little sick. I almost stopped reading it several times thoughtout the book, especially when the chaacters described being gay as a disease. But by the time I finished, I think I understood better. Jamie was being mainipulated, not just by the doctor, but by society to think that way. His journey to discover and understand himself leads to his desperate actions in an effort to escape that manipulation. It’s heartbreaking to know that Jamie's thoughts were based off of off the author’s when he was around the same age.
Take Two by Julia Devillers & Jennifer Roy
I was kind of disappointed in this book. I loved the first one when I was younger, so the fact that I didn’t feel the same about the sequel is a let down. Though I guess that might have to do with the difference in age between the times I read them
Young Goodman Brown by Nathaniel Hawthorne
Four Star books:
Mockingjay by Suzzane Collins
I cried so much reading this book. Katniss yelling at Buttercup at the end broke me. Her “for Prim” before the execution was beautiful (I’ll admit it took me some time to realize she was hinting at what she was planning to do.) Cinna having a part in the rebellion even after his death. The amount that Haymitch cares about Peeta and Katniss. UGH the feels. I did have a problem with the pacing. I felt like all the action was squeezed in at teh end. And Peeta and Katniss’s relationship seemed to seesaw between them in it’s one-sidedness throughout the series.
Duel Of Fire by Jordan Rivet
I did not expect to enjoy this book as much as I did. Especially at he beginning, I thought the characters were annoying. But that GROWTH. By the end, I loved the characters. I had a hunch about who the rebels were, but I wasn’t sure until they were revealed. I loved the magic system and world building, and I can’t wait to see how the story will be developed in the next book and the rest of the series.
Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson
This was my first Brandon Sanderson book and I was not disappointed. The concept was interesting, the Epics having a specific weakness kept them from being overpowered, and I loved the fact that the “Normal people” weere the heroes (For the most part.) I KNEW there was somehing up wiht Megan. But Steelheart’s weakness completely threw me off. I had so many theories, but I was wrong on all of them. That was a plot twist done well.
City of Fallen Angels by Cassandra Clare
(I’m actually not going to include my notes here because they turned into more of a rant at the characters than an actual reveiw)
Galatea by Madaline Miller
I want more of this. Any additional content, I want it. It says something that she felt the only way to escape was to die (And take her husband with her). I REALLY want to know what happened with their daughter.
The Skin I’m In by Sharon G. Flake
This is a reread for me. I read tthis book when I, I believe, was the same age as Maleeka. And at the time, while I had never been in the same situations she’s in, I could still relate to her. Now, as an adult working with students Maleeka’s age, I see my students. It gives me a better insight to what might be going on in their homes, thoughts, and attitudes. This is a book that so many of them should read, just like so many of them could use a Ms. Saunderson.

This book. This book. I audiobooked most of it, which meant that I was listening to it in class while working. Which means I cried. During class. This is one of the few love triangles I think I’ve ever really liked and am actually emotionally invested in. I fully understand the hype around this series. I can't wait to pick up the next one.
The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo
After finishing the audiobook, I'm sitting here trying to find the words to describe how much this means to me. How many of Xiomara's thoughts and feelings I relate to. And I just can't find the words. I can't remember the last time a book meant this much to me. Wanting to find my own voice. Beginning to question the religion that has been such a big part of my life for a long time. Feeling like I have to hide parts of myself, my thoughts, my feelings, everything I wish I could say but can't, from people I care about. Wanting my own writing to mean something to others. I wish I could put what I'm feeling into words, but I'm struggling. I cried. I need a copy of this book. I loved it so much.
Saint Anything by Sarah Dessen
I feel like Dessen’s books follow a pattern. I’ve only read three so far, but I’m able to see the similarities. However, that dosn't stop them from being unique. Sydney’s problems are different from Macy’s, whose are different from Collie’s. So while the books are similar enought to notice a pattern, they’re unique enough to keep the reader’s interest. I wouldn’t say that Saint Anything has impacted me as much as some books have, but I did still enjoy it. Also, a moment of appreciation for instances of sexual assault handled correctly? It's rare to see the subject addressed in a book after it happens. Though I would have loved to see Ames prosecuted. We need to tell girls it's okay to speak up about these things.
Tell Me Again How a Crush Should Feel by Sara Farizan
I loved this. I’m not even sue how to put it all inot words. First of all, Saskia getting expelled? Excellent. That girl made me so mad. Messing with Lila’s feelings was bad enough, but hen going stalker, assualting her, and then outing her to the entire school? I think I would have liked to see even more of a punishment, honestly. Maybe someting from her parents. LISA. I loved Lisa. I’m so happy she and Leila ended up together. They both deserved to be happy and I’m so happy they got to be happy together. I was so emotional after finishing this book.
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
I’m not going to go too in depth because then this would be way too long but this is my favorite book that I’ve had to read for a calss. Ever.

In the early 1800s, Napoleon Bonaparte stormed across Europe, swallowing up territory for his French Empire and challenging the supremacy of Britain on the seas. From 1804 to 1814, the Napoleonic Wars raged, as Britain, Prussia, Austria, and Russia all fought to hold back the fiery emperor of France.
In 1814, it looked as though they had succeeded. Napoleon had abdicated and was exiled to the island of Elba. In France the Bourbon king Louis XVIII had been restored to power.
Then, in late February 1815, Europe received a shock: The audacious Napoleon had left Elba and set sail for France. It is hard to overestimate the dismay and fear provoked by this news. Napoleon’s banishment the year before had been achieved after years of momentous and costly battles on land and at sea. His escape, many feared, would restart French imperial expansion, and once more plunge Europe into war.
In spring 1815, British, Prussian, Austrian, and Russian forces rushed to regroup as Napoleon started mobilizing his army. The countdown had begun to a last epic showdown.
This time, Napoleon faced a coalition of nations led by one of his most skilled British adversaries, the Duke of Wellington. Despite being on opposite sides, both men had shaped, and been shaped by, the extraordinary events that had transformed Europe in the late 18th century.
The First Rise and Fall
Born on the island of Corsica in 1769, Napoleon Bonaparte possessed furious intelligence and relentless ambition. As a young soldier, he supported the radical ideals of the French Revolution and rose rapidly through the ranks of the French army.
Proposing an aggressive approach by attacking Britain’s territories en route to India, Napoleon led the invasion of Egypt in 1798. By 1799, France was at war with most of Europe. Returning to France, Napoleon took part in a coup against the government and then became first consul in February 1800. His forces defeated Austria, and in 1804 Napoleon crowned himself emperor of France.
The French Empire’s renewed hopes to break British naval power were dashed at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. But even as Napoleon abandoned hope of invading Britain, his Grand Army went on to occupy swaths of Europe in what is now Germany and Poland.
To the west, he enforced a trade blockade on Britain by invading Portugal, its commercial ally, and brought much of Spain under his control in the process.
It was on the Iberian Peninsula that the future Duke of Wellington, born Arthur Wellesley, first defeated Napoleon. The Irish-born commander had chalked up military successes in India before being sent to Portugal in 1809 where he helped guerrillas resist Napoleon’s occupation.
Despite initial setbacks, Wellesley managed with patience and skill to expel Napoleon from Portugal in 1811 and won decisive victories against the French in Spain in 1813, dealing a major blow to the emperor’s plans for European domination.
The French Empire was weakening. Following the French Grand Army’s ruinous attempt to invade Russia, allied forces invaded France from all sides. In April 1814 Napoleon was forced to abdicate and accepted banishment to Elba, a few miles off the Italian coast, where he was not exactly a prisoner. He was granted sovereignty of the island, as well as an armed guard. A flow of intelligence from the mainland helped him plan for his daring return to the continent in early 1815.
The Comeback Trail
On March 20, Napoleon reached Paris with the support of the masses ringing in his ears. Despite his claims to want peace, Britain, Austria, Prussia, and Russia were wary. Together, they signed what amounted to a declaration of war.
Events moved swiftly, and the restored French emperor had little time to organize. With enemy armies massing on France’s northern frontiers, he attempted, unsuccessfully, to put together a volunteer force to supplement the standing army at his disposal. But even in this diminished state, the French army was a fearful opponent. Its troops were experienced fighters, and its commander still inspired passionate loyalty.
The allied forces consisted of British, German, Belgian, Dutch, and Prussian troops, who were divided up into various detachments on the border between France and present-day Germany. The British commander, the Duke of Wellington, patiently decided to wait for the enemy to attack rather than force their hand.
Napoleon himself, brimming with confidence, was planning for a decisive victory. Ignoring advice to postpone engagement, he left Paris on June 12, 1815, to join up with his army in Belgium—where Wellington’s troops and Gebhard von Blücher’s Prussian army also lay in wait.
On June 14, he signed a proclamation: “The honor and happiness of our country are at stake and, in short, Frenchmen, the moment has arrived when we must conquer or die!”
A double battle took place on June 16 in Quatre-Bras and Ligny; both were French victories, although neither was a fatal blow to Napoleon’s enemies. On June 17, heavy rains soaked the ground and the French soldiers. The wet fields and muddy roads became a swampy mess.
A Military Quagmire
As dawn broke on June 18, Wellington and Napoleon organized their forces. Wellington set up his headquarters in Mont-Saint-Jean on the road from Brussels, not far from the town of Waterloo. He had deployed the bulk of his 68,000 troops along a two-and-a-half-mile-long ridge.
Three farms—Papelotte, La Haye Sainte, and Hougoumont—stood along it. The British commander stuck to his defensive tactic, knowing he needed to wait for Blücher’s detachments— some 50,000 men in total—to arrive. After the clash at Ligny, Blücher had withdrawn to Wavre, a few miles from Waterloo.
Napoleon’s camp was in the village of Maison du Roi. Because French forces totaled roughly 72,000 men, Napoleon hoped to take advantage of the separation of the Prussians from the British and destroy Wellington’s forces as soon as possible.
The emperor was convinced that victory was within his grasp and that it would be quick and easy. “I tell you Wellington is a bad general,” he said: “[T]he English are bad troops, and this affair is nothing more than eating breakfast.”
But the emperor’s plan was thwarted by the muddy conditions and morning fog, which prevented an early start. The conditions forced him to delay his attack until late morning. Some historians believe that had it not rained, Napoleon would have defeated the allied army within a few hours, long before the Prussians arrived.
In the end, the battle began sometime after eleven in the morning. Always on the offensive, the French focused their forces on two key points on the front: The two farms that the allies had fortified, Hougoumont and La Haye Sainte.
The battle to take these sites stretched on through the day, causing great losses among the French, who were able to launch successive attacks on the allies’ infantry. Cavalry charges struck terror into the forward allied marksmen, while superior French artillery pounded the Anglo-Dutch formations throughout the day.
Disciplined French infantry attacks punched more and more gaps in the allied lines, so that by the afternoon some of Wellington’s officers, running out of munitions, feared the battle was lost.
None of the French attacks, however, achieved the aim of breaching the front. The allied infantry, in particular the British, showed determined resilience in facing the French onslaught. Some formations suffered unprecedented losses, such as the Inniskilling Regiment, which lost two-thirds of its men in 45 minutes.
Finally Facing His Waterloo
Even so, the strain was becoming intolerable. Wellington desperately awaited news of Blücher’s arrival: “Night, or the Prussians, will save us,” he said. It was at around 4 p.m. that Blücher’s forces started to attack the French flank at the hamlets of Plancenoit and Papelotte. But the danger for Wellington was not over yet. The La Haye Sainte farmhouse fell to the French at around 6 p.m.
An hour later, the allied forces faced the terrifying charge from the Imperial Guard, the force Napoleon always reserved to decide battles. They, the emperor thought, would break the allies. But he had miscalculated. He had already sent several regiments of his Imperial Guard to fight the Prussians. They were sorely missed by their comrades during the final push. As they charged, allied gunfire ripped them apart. Stunned, the Imperial Guard faltered.
The French troops scattered in retreat. In his memoirs, Capt. Jean-Roch Coignet recalled: “Nothing could calm [the soldiers]; terror had taken control of them.” At 8:15 p.m. Napoleon ordered a retreat. He realized a mortal blow had been struck and returned to Paris, where he abdicated in favor of his son on June 22.
The victory at Waterloo came at a heavy cost: Estimates vary, but historians place Wellington’s casualties around 15,000 and Blücher’s at about 8,000. Napoleon suffered roughly 25,000 casualties and 9,000 Frenchmen were captured.
Wellington was overwhelmed by the loss of life: “I hope to God that I have fought my last battle.”
A month after the battle, Napoleon gave himself up to the British, who banished him to St. Helena, an island in the middle of the Atlantic. The Napoleonic Era was over for good.

Witness - The Tour
O SHOW
Abaixo o show completo, tal show não é o mesmo que ocorreu no dia 18 de março no Rio de Janeiro na Apoteose, por falta de estrutura para receber completamente os elementos do show.

Como show de abertura fomos servidos na medida certa por Bebe Rexha, que performou algumas de suas músicas autorais, como “No Broken Hearts” e “Bad Bitch”, e trechos de alguns de seus feats, como “Me, Myself & I” do G-Eazy e “Hey Mama”, do David Guetta – isso sem contar os hits “In The Name Of Love”, parceria com o DJ Martin Garrix e “Meant to Be”, seu mais recente e inesperado sucesso com Florida Georgia Line. Chegando adiantada e apresentando um show de 40 minutos que foram mais que suficientes para levantar até mesmo os Katycats que estavam na fila desde manhã, Bebe interagiu com o público a todo momento e teve o ponto alto ao encerrar sua apresentação com “I Got You” adicionando o refrão da sua versão “versão brasileira”, “Só Dá Tu”, da banda A Favorita.

Num tom mais maduro do que em seus últimos álbuns e turnês, a cantora inicia o espetáculo com uma sequência de imagens psicodélicas que quase transporta seus fãs para um clipe do Tame Impala cantando “Witness”, “Roulette”, “Dark Horse” e “Chained To The Rhythm”, acompanhada de incríveis dançarinos acrobatas. O amadurecimento também se nota em sua potência vocal, se sustentando menos nas bases pré-gravada. O palco foi outro ponto marcante, mesmo com menos elementos, foi lindo ver os elevadores surgirem durante as performances.
O segundo ato é preenchido por uma atmosfera nostálgica, com Katy cantando seus sucessos mais antigos e conhecidos pelo público geral, além de trazer um palco mais colorido, digo, tão colorido e com tantos dançarinos que havia momentos em que se perdia Katy de vista. Durante as músicas “Tennage Dream”, “Hot ‘N Cold”, “California Gurls” e “I Kissed a Girl”, a voz da cantora era engolida pelo coro dos fãs na Marquês de Sapucaí, enquanto ela desfilava seu carisma na passarela que a conectava ao público. Como feitos nas outras cidades, Katy escolheu um fã para subir na passarela e lhe ensinar algumas palavras em português. Como não lembrar da icônica “Raiaiaia” do Rock in Rio de 2015 durante a “Prismatic Tour”?
O terceiro ato, como o nome “Sexual Discovery” sugere, é recheado de sensualidade, mas sem perder a descontração. Com enormes rosas ao longo da passarela, a artista cantou “Deja Vu” e brincou de pole dance com um dançarino durante a música “Tsunami”. Durante “E.T.”, Katy dividiu palco com o Mosquitão da Dengue e finalizou o ato sendo engolida por uma planta carnívora enquanto cantava “Bon Appetit”.
O quarto ato, mais intimista, foi o momento mais marcante da noite. Apesar da apresentação impecável em “Wide Awake”, foi em “Unconditionally” que o sambódromo chorou com uma enorme foto de Marielle Franco nos telões e em seguida com a entrada de sua filha e irmã, que choraram com os gritos de pedido de justiça pela vereadora assassinada. Estar rodeado de tanta gente com o mesmo sentimento foi marcante, foi único: “MARIELLE E ANDERSON PRESENTES!”

No quinto ato se iniciou a despedida da cantora, que surgiu cantando “Part of Me” e em seguida “Swish Swish”, mas faltou a Gretchen pra performance ficar completa, como foi em São Paulo. Em seguida, foi a vez de Katy apresentar mais um dos seus mega hits, “Roar”.
Finalizando o show, Katy surge na ponta da passarela, cantando “Firework” em cima de uma enorme mão inflável imitando pedra. A cantora finalmente se redimiu das performances do passado em que era motivo de chacota. Foi lindo, e melhor de tudo foi presenciar o show sendo finalizado com chave de ouro ao som de “Envolvimento”, da MC Loma. Pura demonstração de amor de Katy aos brasileiros em uma noite que realmente valeu a pena fazer parte desse testemunho.
O ESPAÇO
A Praça da Apoteose projetada por Oscar Niemeyer em 1983, durante o governo Leonel Brizola. Construída totalmente com materiais pré-fabricados, demorou apenas 4 meses para ser terminada. Faz parte do complexo do Sambódromo da Marquês de Sapucaí como uma praça onde passam os carros alegóricos. Essa construção tem uma dupla função: além de servir para desfiles, apuração dos resultados dos desfiles das escolas de samba e shows diversos, durante o ano é usado como escola, que funciona nos camarotes. Além disso, ela abriga um pequeno museu do carnaval, com entrada pela rua Frei Caneca.
Entre outros artistas internacionais, já passaram por lá: Jimmy Page & Robert Plant, A-ha, Aerosmith, Avril Lavigne, Bon Jovi, Britney Spears, Skid Row, Kiss, The Rolling Stones, Roger Waters (Pink Floyd), Hillsong, Pearl Jam, Roxette, Santana, Jack Johnson, Nirvana, Black Sabbath, Alice in Chains, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Radiohead, Elton John, Coldplay, Jonas Brothers, Guns N' Roses, Rush, The Black Eyed Peas, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston, Whitecross e Justin Bieber.
Entre os artistas brasileiros que se apresentaram no local, temos Cristina Mel, Daniela Mercury, Diante do Trono, Gilberto Gil, Raimundos, Xuxa, Kelly Key, sendo este o local utilizado para o evento voltado para o público infantil chamado "A Chegada do Papai Noel".
A EXPERIÊNCIA
Tudo teve inicio para mim às 5h da manhã ao acordar para ir ficar na fila do show. O esquema de segurança era bastante intenso, porém a organização das filas deixava bastante a desejar. Inicialmente havia uma única fila, mas logo após duas filas foram formadas; uma para a pista premium (ingresso mais caro) e outra fila para a pista comum (ingresso mais barato). Tal fato atrapalhou completamente e confundiu as pessoas que desde cedo faziam parte da fila. Ao abrirem os portões, a confusão, gritaria e correria foi generalizada, mas rapidamente tudo foi contido pelo seguranças e socorristas. Estes auxiliaram os fãs que passaram mal devido ao tumulto. As saídas de segurança foram devidamente sinalizadas. Os preços dos produtos vendidos durante o show eram exorbitantes, totalmente foram da realidade e dos reais preços de mercado. No geral, gostei muito de presenciar um show de porte tão grande como foi “Witness - The Tour”, mesmo sem a presença de todos elementos cênicos que compõem o espetáculo.
