In AMLO's morning conference, he battles media accusations, touts progress in the “Internet for All” project, and takes a swing at conservative foes. The stage is set for a global tour, promising more political theatrics on the international stage.

every time i say tumblr staff (and tumblr itself let's be real) made social media worse by never punishing harassment, allowing people to get comfortable pushing cancel and callout culture so they could harass and dehumanize anyone (especially minorities) they want without ever having to worry about consequences, an attitude they brought with them to other websites like tiktok and twitter after the 2018 porn ban....
This is what I'm talking about. tumblr staff doesn't give a shit if you're stalked and harassed, but if you're a trans woman posting selfies? instant ban.
tumblr staff has NEVER done anything to protect its users, but now they're actively participating in doing the harm.

here’s the thing.
if you’re one of the people celebrating our flag means death’s cancellation for whatever reason right now, i need you to realize that this is just a sign that whatever you love is next.
and i’m not saying that out of spite. having your favourite show cancelled is awful, i wouldn’t wish it on anyone. but if our little-gay-pirate-show-that-could can’t get its third and final season, the future of queer media is extremely grim.
ofmd was the definition of a sleeper hit. hbo max had no faith in it when the first season came out. it gained popularity purely through word-of-mouth. but it became one of max’s biggest shows, and it’s since been marketed as their flagship series.
it was the #1 most in-demand series in the world for 8 weeks (7 of those weeks consecutively). it’s currently in the 99.7th percentile of the comedy genre, meaning it’s in higher demand than 99.7% of all comedy series in the u.s. it has a 94% audience and critics score on rotten tomatoes. it’s the most in-demand hbo original series even above euphoria, succession, and the last of us.
it was nominated for 16 awards for the first season alone, including a GLAAD award and a peabody award. the second season was just nominated for an art directors guild award, which it was previously nominated for and won in the same category for season one.
besides awards, ofmd is critically-acclaimed and praised for its representation (including a cast of majority queer, bipoc, and disabled characters) and themes of anti-colonialism, challenging gender norms/toxic masculinity, and self-discovery/acceptance. it also has a diverse team of directors and writers consisting of several bipoc, women, and queer/trans/non-binary people.
on top of all of this, the plan for the show all along was only ever for three seasons. david jenkins only wanted three seasons for the full romcom structure to tell ed and stede’s story. that’s it. nothing more.
this isn’t an attempt to make you care about the show. but ofmd’s cancellation isn’t just a loss for the fanbase and the cast/crew. it’s a sign that it does not matter how successful or profitable shows highlighting lgbtq+ (or otherwise inclusive) narratives are or how many big names are involved. ofmd would not have been cancelled if it were a straight romcom. they would’ve magically found the budget. but corporate greed doesn’t care about us. they have no respect for queer people or queer media. and in the age of streaming, it’s only a matter of time until we lose all of it.

Frankly, the secret to surviving having a widely read blog is cultivating the capacity to find it funny when people tell you to kill yourself. Like, really, my friend? You created a burner account on the world’s shittiest social media site because you didn’t even have the stones to nastygram me under your primary fake disposable identity, and that’s all you’ve got? The last one randomly accused me of being a Communist sleeper agent, which was at least entertainingly appalling. Step up your game!

i got blocked by someone over this but critiquing media that has sex in it/critiquing the sex itself is not automatically puritan. Sex negativity is not pointing out that most popular pieces of media that have sex in it are overwhelmingly white, straight, cis, and able bodied. Sex negativity is not pointing out that it is a problem that swathes of people (usually younger women) cannot read fictional books without there being some sort of ~spicy~ scene in it. What IS puritan is someone saying all sex is bad INHERENTLY/there shouldn't be sex depicted anywhere in media at ALL.

“It’s the Jews Zionists that control the media!”
Yeah, that’s still blatantly antisemitic. Also, those famously antisemitic radio talk show hosts are also saying literally the same “Zionists control the media” schtick, so instead of parroting them maybe you need to rethink what you’re saying and where your values lie 🤷♀️

Sometimes people criticize popular media because there are actual things that may be bad or need addressing, and sometimes people criticize popular media because they have a personal grudge against either the media or the creator of said media and just want to have something to be angry about. And it’s important to analyze our own motivations each time to make sure we haven’t slipped into the second one, which isn’t healthy for anyone involved.

tbh... re: my last post, i feel very similarly about moonkitti's spottedleaf video. like yeah it's entirely possible that spottedleaf's love was a retcon, but considering how weird the authors are about romance, the things they'd write later, and the way they write women...... idk if i believe that the authors 100% meant for firestar's love to be unreciprocated as much as i believe that spottedleaf has so little agency in arc 1 that her not verbally agreeing that she loves firestar reads more like the erin's just dont think that she needs to do that.

actually if goncharov were real it would never live up to the standards the insane tumblrinas have built it up to be. there is a triangle of homoeroticism, political commentary, and inevitably tragic in which any live, real adaptation would only conceivably be able to achieve two of to their fullest extent. added on to the fact that this is a film that supposedly is filmed and takes place in the seventies makes the possibility of it truly containing all aspects of what we have made it out to be even more far fetched. however, tumblr has been able to spin gold on far more real and disappointing media than goncharov through its analyses of media such as supernatural, sherlock, and a secret third piece of media that the subsequent creation and analyses of the ‘greatest mafia movie of all time’ goncharov is simply a natural step that tumblr as an ecosystem is willing to take. in this essay i will,
