Earthshot

I'm pretty sure Scobie hinted at it in Endgame. I've only just now made the connection after seeing this post from @sassyfrassboss and William's announcement for Cape Town.

What makes the House of Windsor unique with this dance with the media is the competing households within it, all with their own agendas, and all doing their best to please their bosses. Up until the Queen's death, there were three houses, each with a team assigned to work with the media: Kensington Palace for William and Kate, Clarence House for Charles and Camilla, and Buckingham Palace for the monarch. There were also smaller teams under the BP umbrella who worked with other family members like Edward and Sophie, Princess Anne, and (pre-departure) Harry and Meghan. Though all part of the same institution, the rivalry between these teams is real in many ways and often derails a unified message. Each house is often angling for the same space in newspapers, hand-waving for attention with regards to their work, grabbing the ideal dates and locations for their tours and engagements, or scrambling for first dibs on charitable causes. And this rivalry often causes rifts, problems, and confusion downstream after a particular household offers breaking news or choreographs a PR operation. It was an 'absolute headache' when Charles, William, and Harry all wanted to do similar high-profile environmental work, an aide once told me. 'None of them were into the idea of collaborating; they all wanted their own big moments away from the other...It was all about competition, and the households were purposefully holding information back so others couldn't try to get ahead,' they explained.

So going down the rabbit hole:

Summer 2019 (July or August) - Harry announced Travalyst.

December 2019 - William announced the Earthshot Prize.

January 2020 - Charles announced the Sustainable Marketplaces, which evolved in 2021 as Terra Cotta.

The only reason I think these charities are what Scobie is alluding to is because of how butthurt and bent out of shape Harry got when William announced the Earthshot Prize. I can't remember what he did anymore - was it that new picture of Archie with the mountain/lake behind him or was there something more? - but whatever he did, it was immediately apparent he didn't like William's work at all.

And now with hindsight, Harry probably thought he had called dibs on environmental work when he launched Travalyst, so it wasn't fair for William to have co-opted it with the Earthshot Prize a couple months later and then it equally wasn't fair when Charles threw his own hat into the mix.

But I think the joke is on Harry. William and Charles's projects were fully developed when they launched, to where now, 4 years later, they're very successful and have name recognition all over the world. Meanwhile, no one knows what Travalyst does, people think it's a grift for Harry and Meghan to write off all their travel expenses and accept travel freebies under the guise of sustainability, and Harry's been kicked off the board. He's still listed on the website as Founder and Patron, but it's been made vrey clear in a couple of articles when the website was updated that Harry's not involved in the company anymore other than being a lightning rod for controversy.

What have I done? I gave up the perfect wedding dress, because my soon to be husband wants The Swing Kings on our wedding, and if I didn't gave my wedding dress to that bitch, she would book the band. Yes, this all happened in one day. Although, I didn't regret my decision of giving up the dress, hearing the confesion Spencer had made:

'It's just while (Y/N) and I were dancing to them... It was the first time I knew that... You were the woman that I wanted to dance all my dances with.'

It had absolutely melted my heart and I knew then, that I had to give up the dress. I was okay with it, cause the way his eyes light up at my statement that I booked them, made every fiber in my body fill with love.

Despite all this, I couldn't help but was still a bit sad. I was absolutely over the moon with the dress, loving every inch of it. But I was more than happy to give it up just to see that bashful smile on the face of my fiance.

When the days passed, I found myself thinking less about it everyday. I even made a new appointment to shop for a new wedding dress. But, when one night, when Spencer and I just laid in the comfort of our bed, I could see his brain going 1000 miles a minute.

'What's wrong, love?' I asked, facing him, my hand finding his and giving it a slight squeeze.

'I just- I just can't stop thinking about that dress. I know there got to be another reason than the dress doesn't fitting well. It fit perfect. You looked absolutely perfect.' damn it, I forgot he was a profiler.

'Spence, I-'

'And don't get me wrong, if you don't want the dress or it actually doesn't fit that well, then there is absolutely no pressure. I just got a feeling you weren't completely honest with me.' he continued, looking at me with hurtful eyes. I felt guilty for lying to him. No one should lie to each other, especially not to the love of your life. So, I took a deep breath, ready to tell the truth.

'I'm sorry, Spence, I shouldn't have lied. But when we were in the store the other day, I met a woman, Meghan, who I told about the big sale in Kleinman's. She then showed up and wanted to steal my dress, which already was in my hand, and I just ran off and bought it. When we were back, she called me and said she would book The Swing Kings, which I told her you wanted, unless I give her the dress. I'm sorry.' he has been listening carefully to every word I spoke, his facial expressions softened, and I could see a glimpse of guilt and disbelief.

'You- you gave up your dress for me?' I nodded, and before I could say something else, I was squeezed into a tight hug.

I hugged back, hiding my face in the crook of his neck, while he placed sweet kisses on mine.

'I don't know what to say. Thank you, thank you so much for caring about me. I don't know what I did to deserve you but I am thanking every star in the universe who made me meeting you.' his words melted my heart once again. Ending the hug, I made sure to look him deep in the eyes as to let him see the meaningfullness of my next words:

'You did absolutely everything to deserve me. I love you Spencer Reid.' a blush mixed with a sweet smile took over his face, before squeezing my hands.

'And I love you, soon to be (Y/N) Reid.'

We shared a loving kiss, followed by an even tighter hug. The psychical affection was exactly what we both needed.

'Still too bad for the dress, though. You looked absolutely gorgeous in it.'

'Well, I rather have a meaningful band than a not meaningful dress.' I stated, speaking fully the truth.

'I am sure you will find a new dress. And I am even more sure, that you will look beautiful in it.'

Timing. Dear Celta, timing. Exactly the same thing happened when Charles was discharged as when he announced his “treatment” a week prior to the actual procedure. It’s too much of a coincidence. How absolutely disgusting.

To recap, KP announces Catherine’s hospitalization, and and hour and a half later, Charles announced via BP he was going in for enlarged prostate next week. He makes a huge song and dance about visiting Catherine before the procedure. Catherine came home stealthily and announced today she’s home. Almost an hour and a half later, BP announced he’s going home and is pictured leaving.

I don’t care for the explanation that he’s taking the ‘heat’ of trolling off her. He needs to effectively deal with his rotten son. End of.

I agree that effectively dealing with Harry and Meghan would be a far better way of protecting The Princess of Wales than visiting her in hospital.

That being said, I do think that part of the reason for the double announcements was to try and redirect attention from The Princess of Wales to King Charles. Whether that was to try and protect Princess Catherine from the trolls (which did not work), or whether it was to give all the attention to King Charles, or both at once, who knows? It is like his visit to her in hospital before his procedure - yes, it was a very nice gesture, but I can't help wondering how much was for PR and whether Princess Catherine actually wanted to be visited. Sometimes the best thing you can do for a person who is in hospital is not to visit them and give them the time alone to sleep and rest. Just my cynical side at work today.

So the British press has gone from "Harry looked miserable at the Beyonce concert" to "Harry shouldn't be having a good time at the Beyonce concert because it was too close to the anniversary of his mum's death".

Like, imagine strangers, who never met your mother, telling you that you can't go to a concert because she died 26 years and 3 days ago... 😳

Apparently Meghan "twerking", which is so not what she was doing, is not "royal". Maybe they should inform their future King that dancing in clubs with his arms around women who aren't his wife isn't very royal. 🤣

Not going to lie I'm actually sobbing over the results these are all so sweet and so them I can't even 😭 I feel like these could be viewed for platonic love as well as romantic too which makes it even cuter.

"Shit..." Stephanie slams her bedroom door shut, looking towards her friends at the same time, her brown eyes locking with Jessie's hazel ones. "Shit..." She utters out again, louder this time, bringing her trembling hands up to look at the deep, crimson stained on them, along with her clothes, the glittery hue dancing against the dim light reminding her that it wasn't human blood spilt across her body along with her friends.

"Was... Is that it?" Jessie asks, her voice cracking a little due to screaming in horror just minutes earlier. "What did we do? Dear God, what have we done?" The panic begins to rise as the adrenaline begins to slow, running her hands through her ginger hair, gripping at her scalp as her already pale complexion almost drains completely, making her look dead.

"We haven't done wrong... We... We didn't do anything wrong!" Meg says, though the shouting doesn't help in reassuring, her pacing stops turning to look at Jessie, pointing a bloodied finger at her, hints of her aqua nail polish along her nail still visible.

"We killed someone, Meghan!" Jessie screams back, storming toward her and pushing her finger into her friends chest. "We killed a living person!"

"We killed a vampire!" Meg corrected, dark eyes narrowing a bit as she mimics to accusatory poke at her friends chest, harsh enough thus time to make Jessie stumble back from her close space. "If we didn't do it, it probably would've killed five actual living people in the span of a night!"

"There's more of them... What if they find us?! They'll spill our guts all over your aunts shag carpet!" Jessie looked to Setphanie, who still had her glazed over gaze slowly dart between her two friends, an unreadable look of dread on her face.

"I don't want to die... I-I don't want to die!" Jess is practically screaming at this point, exhaling loudly as her lip trembles, and she backs herself into the wall, clawing at the sensation of drying blood on her hands, stuck in between her rings.

"We aren't gonna die, Jesus Christ!" Meg snaps, biting down on her lower lip as she grabs at the tangled curls in her afro, taking a deep inhale, a slight tremor in it. "We can leave... We can leave this town in under an hour in my van -"

"We can't leave now. It's night! You're putting a damn target on the back of our necks!" Jessie states, which only makes Meghan throw her hands up and growl.

"Well then what am I supposed to fucking do!?"

"Will you two shut up?!" Stephanie exclaims, finally vocal after minutes if silence while watching the two argue. She took a step forward to either defuse or push herself into the screaming fit.

The sound of harsh wind and clattering of her guestroom window sliding open instantly turned the three girls heads to the sound- trying to see through the flying curtains along with their hair blocking the view of the figure now standing in her room.

"Were dead!" Jessie nearly cries, letting out a quick scream as she cowards back into the wall, gripping at the closet hinge as if it'd protect her of sorts. Meg had resorted to standing in front of her ginger haired friend. Even if she looked just as terrified, she stayed in a protective stance, ready to sheild and defend.

But Stephanie didn't move. Stephanie didn't retreat in fear. As her black hair calmed back onto her shoulders, her mouth sightly fell open. The churning dread and fear building in her stomach left in one word as she gazed at the figure standing at her open window.

"Chris..."

The blonde vampire gazed at her, a look of alarm, and something akin to pain danced behind his dark green eyes, but his face was unreadable, like it was unable to shift or change into what he was feeling in that moment.

His eyes scanned her appearance. Specifically, the blood poured on her hands and stained into her tanktop and leather jacket, sticking to her figure in discomfort. His eyes fall, and his grip on the window seal slumped back to his side.

"It was you... Wasn't it." He spoke, but it almost wasn't a question. It was though he was speaking fact. He didn't have anger or betrayal in his voice. It almost sounded as though he was in pity, heartbreak.

"I didn't mean to do it, Chris. I'm sorry..." She takes a step toward him, her eyes going glassy as all the emotions and realizations began to fall on her shoulders, making it feel impossible to make it across the room to her weekend lover without the guilt crushing her. "I'm so sorry, Chris."

"You did it." He accused softly, but he didn't move as she got closer. "I didn't know, Chris, I didn't know." Stephanie states, her voice cracking and falling to a whisper as her hands shakily come up to his chest, nervously fumbling with the necklaces around his neck, her eyes never leaving his. "I'm so sorry I..."

"You killed my sister..." He spoke again, the look and impact slowly shifting onto his face as she brought her soft hands to the sides of his face, shaking so uncontrollably he gripped her wrists with his own, the strong scent of blood filling his nostrils making his lungs burn.

"It wasn't supposed to happen. I'm sorry." She utters, the look on his face breaks her heart, unable to fight the singular tear that falls from her eye down her cheek, mixing with the glittery substance splattered along her jaw.

"You killed Tiff." Chris's voice falters, letting go of Stephanie's hands as he turns his head in a way to get her to remove her hands from his face, which she hesitates to do, but does, still holding them in the air in front of her, lingering against his cold touch.

"Forgive me. Please, Chris, I'm sorry. I promise, you gotta believe me... It wasn't supposed to happen." She pleads - no, begs.

She would get on her knees in front of this boy, kiss his feet and cling to his legs while crying for pity if it meant for her to hear him laugh again, or spend one more night on his motorcycle, or feeling the passion of his lips on hers. Feel a warmth she never got from his body, but from his heart.

Which she had learned stopped beating a long time ago.

"You need to help me and my friends, if we're killed -" Stephanie chokes, glancing back at her friends, seeing the fear and awkward casts to the ground.

"You're sisters will kill us, Christopher... You need to help us."

"I can't." Chris says finally, he seems almost helpless. He wants to help this girl, this girl he's only known for a week, but he feels stole his heart the second she traveled into this town. But he can't. He knows he can't. Because he can't stop them. He can't stop vengeance. He can't stop the revenge.

The lights in the room flickered - sparking for a second of life before the house fully goes black. The radio faint in the background slowly and clicks off. The air goes still, and the wind outside goes quiet and calm, ceasing the small flow in the curtains.

It went quiet. So quiet Stephanie could hear her heartbeat, starting to feel the sudden quickening in its pace as it dawned on her what was happening.

"Besides..." Chris voice goes silent, right in Stephanie's ear, as though he himself is afraid to speak, afraid to reveal where exactly in this room they were, like even blinking would give away where the four teens had huddled.

"It isn't my sister's you should be afraid of."

A while ago I made an aro playlist that I keep adding songs on. It's on an account that I don't feel comfortable sharing but I thought I could tell y'all what songs are on it because aro songs are not easy to find. So here you go.

Note: this playlist is tailored to my personal music taste. It's mostly pop. I know there are more out there (Cavetown) but these are the songs I like to listen to. The DM's Excerpts - Charles III: New King, New Court

Robert Hardman (who also wrote Queen of Our Times, published 2022) has written a new book about the British Royal Family. The Daily Mail is serializing parts of the book over four days, from 12 - 15 January 2024. Here are the links. If anyone has any others, feel free to share them in the comments.

Excerpt #1, 12 Jan 2024

Highlights:

The last time most of her staff saw The Queen was at the pre-dinner cocktails the evening of September 6th. She was happy, chatty, and in a good mood. (September 6th was the Boris Johnson-Liz Truss transition.)

It was sheer luck that Anne and Peter were at Balmoral during this time. Anne was passing through for work, Peter was preparing for a shooting party he was going to host over the weekend (which ended up cancelled). Also Sarah Chatto was nearby.

On September 7th, The Queen planned to attend the Privy Council meeting as it involved new Cabinet officials being installed. She eventually cancelled on medical advice. This was the first signal to many that she wasn't doing well.

Charles and Camilla were on the western side of Scotland for a series of engagements September 7 - September 8. The morning of September 8, Anne called Charles to come to Balmoral at once. On the helicopter to Balmoral, everyone was reviewing the Operation London Bridge papers. They arrived at Birkhall around 10:30am and traveled to Balmoral in a borrowed car.

William was called around breakfast time and informed of the situation, including that was on his way to Balmoral. Charles himself called William (and Andrew, Edward, and Harry) that they should also come. After Charles's calls, Kensington Palace began coordinating with Royal Lodge (Andrew's office*) and Bagshot Park (Edward's office*) on travel to Scotland. William and KP did not reach out to the Sussexes because betrayal, and they felt the responsibility should have been on the Sussexes to make contact. (*Not really their offices, but it's the easiest way to keep them separate so you know who I'm talking about.)

Everyone was disturbed by Harry's inclusion of these events, especially the "Meghan's not coming/she's my wife/Kate's not coming either/that's all you had to say" bit, in his memoir. Harry's recollection of how he was notified of The Queen's death isn't true - he claims no one was talking to him but actually Charles and the palace had been trying to reach him repeatedly. The calls weren't going through because he was in the air. (Interesting that he'd check the BBC first as opposed to calling back after seeing a dozen of missed calls...or not springing for the wifi package...)

Liz Truss, the new PM, was in a G7 conference call on September 8th when she was notified of the situation in Scotland. She bowed out of the call early and quickly. The G7 leaders knew what was happening.

Charles was rather close to Balmoral when he received the call that The Queen had passed. William, Andrew, Edward, and Sophie were on the way to Balmoral from the Aberdeen airport. Charles called them himself to let them know.

The Archbishop of Canterbury was in France on a personal holiday. He and his wife began preparing to return home after seeing the palace's first statement about The Queen's health. They drove home overnight so Welby could make an address in the morning.

Excerpt #2, 13 Jan 2024

Highlights:

The Queen had been quite ill in her final year. She knew and was aware her time was ending that summer.

A regency would have been created had she lived as long as The Queen Mother because everyone was fearful of a health condition flaring up in public.

Planning for Charles's accession and coronation began in 2015. Sir Alderton, his private secretary, created a "training video" of the accession/transition then that Charles, Camilla, and William watched in the evening of September 8th during their private dinner at Birkhall, while Princess Anne hosted the rest of the family at Balmoral. If Harry wasn't such a dick (my word, not Hardman's), he'd have been part of the Birkhall dinner but he wasn't and there were very serious concerns he would write about it in Spare.

The announcement of The Queen's death was delayed because family members hadn't been informed yet. (I think it was Harry they were waiting on, per the events in the first article.)

The royals were very touched by the outpouring of public affection for The Queen, themselves, and their family. Camilla was struck by how supportive the crowd was of her. Anne was touched by the tractors, horses, and the crowds that lined the roads in Scotland. It was a six hour drive, and she and Tim had had snacks in their car but they both felt it would have been rude to everyone that came to see the procession and pay their respects to be seen eating.

Camilla sobbed through Charles's first speech.

The Privy Council were concerned that the political upheaval in the government would cause problems for the accession, transition, and royal mourning.

It was William's idea for him, Kate, and the Sussexes to do the Windsor walkabout together. He organized it in two hours. No one found it easy or enjoyable.

Excerpt #3, 14 Jan 2024

Highlights:

The Queen felt she had to say 'yes' when Harry contacted her about naming his daughter Lilibet and she was very angry with him for it. (Reading between the lines, it sounds like the decision was presented by the Sussexes as "fait accompli" and The Queen took offense.)

The Sussexes tried to force the palace to go along with their version (that they had asked The Queen for permission) but the palace refused to play. They also tried to intimidate the press with legal action if anyone didn't report "their" version of events, even going so far as threatening the BBC with a lawsuit.

Everyone at the palace rolled their eyes about the Sussexes getting the RFK "Ripple of Hope Award." They felt that the "legacy" the Sussexes were being rewarded for was laughable, especially when compared to Charles's work.

The Caribbean gets its news through the US media. (I believe this confirms the theory that Sussex PR influenced the Caribbean's coverage of the Royal Family)

William saw Harry's comments in the Netflix documentary that they're expected to marry someone who fits the mold as an attack on Kate and he's been furious since. He feels betrayed by Harry having discussed their relationship so freely, thinks it's an intrusion of privacy.

Neither William nor Kate have read Spare but they are aware of what's being said and their staffs have briefed them.

Harry's version of events when The Queen Mother died is totally made up. (In Spare, Harry says he was alone, it was springtime just before Easter, and he took the call himself, but actually he was in Switzerland skiing with Charles and William and all three were told together by an aide.)

It's very suspicious that Spare largely skips May 2018 - March 2020. The palace thinks it'll be covered in the second version or Meghan's memoir.

The door is open for Harry and Meghan to return but they'll have to make the first steps since Charles has given up.

Anne's seat the coronation in front of Harry was a last-minute change so she could leave more quickly after the service in the procssion. She was concerned about keeping her hat on since it was "decent-sized" but she was told to keep it on.

Highlights

It's been a difficult transition to Queen for Camilla, but everyone believes she handled it well. Her family finds it surreal.

Camilla doesn't mind being second fiddle to Charles.

She still has her Wiltshire home, Ray Mill, which she bought after divorcing Andrew PB. She still visits and stays there to this day.

Everyone walks a bit on eggshells around Charles because he's a bit temperamental, but Camilla steadies him.

Camilla likes her rooms hot. Charles like his rooms cold and windows open.

Charles skips lunch. Camilla does not.

Camilla keeps Charles running on time when he gets chatty.

Camilla is hands-on with her charities and patronage.

I find her sister is overstaying her welcome. After her starring role in the coronation documentary and now her interviews with Hardman for the book, it's too much and feels like she's trying too hard.
