"Give me a daughter with your stubborn heart, or your even temper. Give our children your dark-bright eyes, or your enchanted smile. So that even when we are gone, the world will find within them all of the reasons why I loved you”

“I carry a torch in one hand and a bucket of water in the other; With these things I am gonna to set fire to Heaven And put out the flames of Hell So the voyagers to God can rip the veils and see the real goal.”

Laid my hopes in you
like they used to lay children into the Euphrates.
Most times they drowned
and got lost before they were even close to their destination.
How will I ever mourn and move on?
When I will always be uncertain
about them reaching the riverside.

Quote
"A body traveling along the line of time impregnates time’s barren cord, and returns from the mirror’s feast intimate with its own image."

This is the end quote page from my book of poetry, "A Confederacy of Joy" [Siena Press] which I will be reading from this coming Wednesday, 25. October at Alan Cumming's @clubcumming in NYC as a part of a group reading of authors in their "Reading for Filth" Series curated by Hattie Hathaway and Daniel Nardicio. I discovered this quote by Abu Nuwas al-Hasan ibnHani al-Hakami whilst I was reading ancient Arab & Persian Love Poetry and it so moved me and resonated with me that I decided to include it to close my own book as it perfectly captures my own feelings with my love for whom my book is dedicated. "I die of love for you, but keep this secret: The tie that binds us is an unbreakable rope." #poetry #juanpaoloperre #poet #poem #poetryreading #instabook #writersofinstagram #nyc #newyork #sienapress #legacypoetryprize #aconfederacyofjoy #books #lyricpoetry #love #arabpoetry #persianpoetry #middleeasternpoetry #lovepoetry #instagood #photography #clubcumming #lowereastside #readingforfilth #writer #penamerica #poetryfoundation #academyofamericanpoets (at Club Cumming)

PLZ recommend some good lit blogs (if you feel comfortable)
i don't actually follow many i just like to lurk 😔 defining lit blogs as "posts a lot of reading excerpts" i can think of these: @soracities @luthienne @weltenwellen (this blog is particularly helpful to me as someone both working with children & going into clinical psychology). @middleeasternpoetry posts beautiful poems but is mostly inactive. in terms of "in depth discussion of texts" i only follow asoiaf or tolkien legendarium blogs sorry lol
not Literature Blogs per se but @violetmoods has really good book recommendations and frequently posts excerpts of her current reads so i recommend checking her out! i believe @maryolive reblogs a lot of interesting book excerpts as well & has an extensive tagging system. if you look through my #words tag you'll probably find more blogs!

One of the many battles non western men have to face is being a father to a daughter. Either the biggest struggle or blessing. The easiest way to take care of your daughter is to hide her. Hide her from the world and from the mistakes, Which are only frowned upon if a woman commits them. So they lock her away. Telling her she is too precious for this world. But they forget that, one day She has to face it. And she won't be prepared for it. She'll be full of fear And each day will pass with another experience that she wasn't ready for. And she'll think that she always needs a guardian to feel safe. Because she was too precious to be taught to raise her voice. Too precious to say no. Too precious to do things on her own. Too precious to face life with all its battles alone.

No rest he found by day or night— Lailî for ever in his sight. But, oh! when separation came, more brightly glow’d his ardent flame; And she, with equal sorrow fraught, bewail’d the fate upon them brought. —He wander’d wild through lane and street, with frantic step, as if to meet Something which still his search defied. Reckless of all that might betide. His bosom heaved with groans and sighs, tears ever gushing from his eyes; And still he struggled to conceal, the anguish he was doom’d to feel. - Nezami
