PARTYNEXTDOOR RELEASES HIGHLY ANTICIPATED ALBUM PARTYNEXTDOOR 4 (P4)
Tumblr media
Contemporary R&B superstar PartyNextDoor releases his highly anticipated album PARTYNEXTDOOR 4 (P4). The 14-track album showcases PartyNextDoor’s intoxicating vocals blended with hypnotic trap production. In addition to writing and singing on all of the tracks, Party serves as a producer on the majority of the album.

To accompany P4, PartyNextDoor also releases the music video for the dancehall-infused track “F o r  C e r t a i n.” Directed by Edgar Daniel, the sultry visual picks up where the “R e a l W o m a n” music video left off.
Of the new album, PartyNextDoor adds, “I want my fans to experience this album in a way that allows them to take exactly what they need from it. Whatever they are going through... relationships, whatever it is - when they listen to this album, they can use my stories to learn from and relate to.”
PARTYNEXTDOOR 4 (P4) features previously released tracks, including “H e r O l d F r i e n d s,” “R e s e n t m e n t,” “R e a l W o m a n,” and “L o s e M y M i n d.” This year, PartyNextDoor returned to the festival circuit and performed at SXSW, Rolling Loud California and Australia’s Souled Out festival. The Billboard cover star will also take the stage at Broccoli City Festival in July.
With 2024 marking the 10-year anniversary of PARTYNEXTDOOR 2, fans continue to celebrate PartyNextDoor’s discography; the sped-up version of “Her Way” became 2023’s #1 track on TikTok Canada and #3 track on TikTok USA.

Edmonia Lewis also known as Wildfire, was a Black and Mississauga Ojibwe sculptor. She was born in upstate New York but most of her career was spent in Italy. She moved to Boston in 1864, and upon seeing a statue of Benjamin Franklin, though not having the words to articulate it, came to the conclusion she could make one of these herself. With difficulty, she found an instructor in Edward Augustus Bracket, who was a moderately successful artist specializing in marble portraiture, mostly of abolitionists. She was given pieces of sculpture to copy, crafted her own sculpting tools and began crafting her own work. While the reason has never been disclosed, her relationship with her teacher ended badly, and they split ways. But having her own studio, she could now hold her own solo exhibition. Her success allowed her to go to Rome in 1866.
"I was practically driven to Rome in order to obtain the opportunities for art culture, and to find a social atmosphere where I was not constantly reminded of my color. The land of liberty had no room for a colored sculptor."
She was given space to work in the studio of Hiram Powers and rubbed shoulders with other expatriates in Rome, eventually established her own studio space. She would spend the majority of her career in Rome which suited her as a Catholic and a racialized women in a country with less overt racism.
In her later career, she worked more and more on religious work for Catholic patrons, and like many woman and racialized black people, history began to forget her and little is known about her late life. She lived in Paris, France from 1896 to 1901 then moved to the Hammersmith area of London England. She died there of kidney failure September 17th 1907. Edmonia's work is powerful with strong figures that recall the Greek masters, but with a sensitivity for her subjects that feels incredibly contemporary (as seen in The Arrowmaker). She walked a thin and careful line as a black-indigenous woman of means and a black-indigenous woman making art, and making art that so often depicted marginalized peoples. And she did suffer for it before she left for Europe. If you'd like to read more about Edmonia, and her life and see her works:

Shoutout to all the award recipients from last night’s celebration of Black Excellence for Black History Month! It’s a rare honour for me to have been invited to showcase my artwork at both Toronto’s City Hall and yesterday’s Mississauga Civic Centre in the same month. Of course, as an added bonus get the opportunity to meet both Mayors, Councillors and the different people in attendance who share their thoughts and love towards my artwork. Here’s to opening new doors and entering bigger buildings! #blackhistorymonth #mississauga #bhm #Canada #blackexcellence #artist #awardsnight (at Mississauga Civic Centre) https://www.instagram.com/p/CpGBq7MJ-sa/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Indigenous People’s Day 2022
Today we commemorate Indigenous People’s Day with art by Native American Women from Hearts of Our People: Native American Artists. This exhibition catalog was published in Minneapolis in 2019 by the Minneapolis Institute of Art (MIA) in conjunction with the University of Washington Press to accompany the traveling exhibit “Hearts of Our People: Native Women Artists.” The exhibition catalog was prepared by MIA curator Jill Ahlberg Yohe and Kiowa artist Teri Greeves.
While the exhibit and its catalog featured art from antiquity through the present, I decided to primarily focus on the work of living artists, with the exception of the marble by Edmonia Lewis. Lewis, born in the mid-19th century to an African-Hatian father and a Black and Mississauga mother, is credited with being the first African American and first Native American to attain international success in the art scene. Trained in and working out of Rome, Lewis incorporated themes of Blackness and Indigeneity into her Neoclassical sculptural work. Whether through the subversion of traditionally European artforms or the reimagining of Indigenous traditions, the contemporary artists featured here alongside Lewis bring the depth of Native visual languages to a wide range of mediums.
Explore the exhibit further through the exhibition page from the Smithsonian American Art Institute, which hosted the exhibit from February 21-March 13, 2020.

TORONTO HIP- HOP TITAN AR PAISLEY UNVEILS COLLABORATION “SUPPLY & DEMAND” FEATURING VIRAL PUNJABI ARTIST HARSH LIKHARI
Tumblr media
Toronto rap titan, AR Paisley drops a fresh take on the hip hop genre, with his dynamic collaboration “Supply & Demand” featuring viral Punjabi rap artist Harsh Likhari. “Supply and Demand” sees Paisley, an artist who has cemented his place as Toronto's newest hip hop ambassador, join with Likhari, who gained international recognition through his collaboration with Connor Price on a single that remains true to the essence of old school hip hop.
Blending nostalgic hip hop with traditional Punjabi melodies with a seamlessness that complements both artists’ refined sound, ‘Supply & Demand’ offers a fusion of sounds that fuels Paisley’s buzz along with the demand for the rising star. The official music video merges the diverse lifestyles of the rap mavericks, alternating between AR Paisley's Toronto home shot by videographer Jyotti Tatter and Harsh Likhari’s New Delhi, India stomping grounds, in striking visuals directed by Tango.
youtube
Paisley reflects on his motivation for the single, saying,“ I wrote this song at the start of 2024 after taking a break from the studio for a bit. I came back with a fresh mindset and fresh ears which helped piece this song together showcasing my lyrical abilities.” He also cites his desire to be a catalyst, driving up-and-coming talent to the forefront of the industry, giving others the affirmation he once desired, as another motivation for the collaboration.
‘Supply & Demand” follows Paisley's recent Valentine’s Day release "Only You" and surprise feature on "Drippy" a collaboration with the late Sidhu Moose Wala, which accumulated over 15 million views, and charted #9 on Canada's Billboard Hot 100.

About the Writer.
Tumblr media
Favourite time of year: Autumn.
Comfort food: Wraps, nachos, fried eggs.
Favourite desserts: Cotton candy ice cream, mint chocolate chip ice cream, nanaimo bars, oatmeal cookies.
Things you collect: Little elephants from around the world - I have some from the Caribbean, Egypt, India and Cuba.
Favourite drink: Milk, coca-cola, water, orange juice.
Favourite musical artist: Changes on an hourly basis.
Last song you listened to: I was listening to some songs from the Godzilla NES soundtrack since the creepypasta mentions them a lot and I guess it was for a bit of immersion.
Last movie you watched: Playdate.
Last series you watched: Naruto. (Not fully rewatching, just kind of dipping my toe back in.)
Series you’re currently watching: Yu-Gi-Oh! with another mun.
Current obsession: I don't really have any one fixation right now.
Dream place to visit: Japan, United Kingdom.
A place you’ve been that you want to go back to: I would want to go back to Mississauga, if I could - it's a pretty big city with a lot of stores. Last time I went, they had like four to five Gamestop locations. My city only has two, lol.
Something you want: I really want to order this one manga volume to finally complete my collection but I'm trying to save money at the moment - plus every time I order it, something seems to go wrong like the book being damaged or being sent a totally different book, so I'm starting to feel a little hexed there.
Currently working on: Just dash things. Might play some Playstation in a bit if I still don't feel sleepy.
Tagged by: @misfitxofxfriends (Thanks!)
Tagging: Whoever wants to give this a shot!
