Nintendo Releases a new Switch Variant, and offers Switch Replacement with a new service, God of War gets a release date, Terminator & RoboCop get new games, and Monster Hunter Rise sells 10 million units!

This week was a huge week for Nintendo, as they brought back the Wii channel, released new Switch variations, makes good with a new subscription repair and replacement service, God Of War gets a release date, Terminator & RoboCop comes from left field as they get new games announced. For spoken has been delayed once again, and Monster Hunter Rise sells 10 million units!

🕹️ The Console War Rages On

Nintendo now offers up to two Switch Unit replacements! — Nintendo has introduced WideCare, a new subscription service, which will allow users to send in their Nintendo Switch for repairs to Nintendo. This also covers user errors, such as cracked screens and water damage. You can use this service up to 6 times per year, or up to two Switch Units replacements. The service is currently only offered in Japan, for ~2,000 YEN per year. This equates to around $15 USD. This might be a trial run for an international service still yet to come. Right now, Japanese Switch owners will get much better support for their devices, as this now clearly shows that the Nintendo Switch will be sticking around for a lot longer. (Source)

God Of War: Ragnarok gets a release date — A new cinematic trailer has unveiled the release date for God Of War: Ragnarok for 9th November 2022. A collector’s edition will also be released alongside it. (Source, Collectors Edition)

Nintendo has brought the Wii Shop back online — Twitter user @OatmealDome has discovered that Nintendo has brought back up the servers for the Wii. The service originally went down on March 16th. (Source)

Switch OLED gets a new Splatoon 3 model — Ahead of the Splatoon 3 release, Nintendo has unveiled an array of new hardware themed in Splatoon. The dock, the joycons, and the Switch unit itself, all have a unique colour and pattern that matches the Splatoon game. They also released a new Nintendo Pro Controller which features the game’s primary colours. (Source 1, Source 2)

Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak has sold 10 million units — Capcom announced that Monster Hunter Rise has officially sold over 10 million units — with two million of those units being the Sunbreak expansion that was released on the 30th Of June, 2022. (Source)

Forspoken has been delayed into 2023 — Square Enix and Luminous Productions have stated that after speaking with their ‘key partners’ the decision to move the game into the 24th of January 2023 was made. They further clarified that all game elements were complete and the game is in its final polishing state. (Source)

RoboCop: Rouge City has been unveiled — RoboCop: Rogue City will be coming to PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch in June 2023. The game was announced by Nacon at their Nacon Connect event. (Source)

Untitled Terminator game also in the works — Nacon also showed off footage from their yet-to-be-titled Terminator game. (Source)

E3 will partner with ReedPop to bring E3 2023 — ReedPop, who has previous organized PAX, New York Comic-Con, Star Wars Celebration and more, will be working with ESA in order to create a new E3 experience currently set to return in 2023. (Source)

Millie Bobby Brown cumple 20 años

"Eleven", ese es un nombre que Millie Bobby Brown no olvidará nunca en su vida. ¿Por qué? Justamente porque es el que la llevó a ser lo que es hoy: una de las personas más influyentes del mundo, pese a ser una de las más jóvenes. Sin embargo, como pocas artistas jóvenes lo han logrado, Millie supo convertirse en una estrella sin precedentes.

Nacida el 19 de febrero de 2004, Millie Bobby Brown tiene nacionalidad británica, pero específicamente llegó al mundo en Málaga, España y es la tercera de los cuatro hijos de Kelly y Robert Brown. Su vida no fue cerca del español debido a que, cuando tenía cuatro años, su familia decidió mudarse a Bournemouth (Dorset). Aún así, a sus ocho años, la familia Bobby Brown volvió a desprenderse de un país, en este caso, Inglaterra, para mudarse a Estados Unidos, más precisamente en Orlando, Florida, donde la vida de Millie cambiaría para siempre.

A sus ocho años fue matriculada en una escuela donde aprendía canto, actuación y baile los fines de semana. Gracias a su talento deslumbrante, siempre consiguió destacar, por lo que un agente de actores no tardó en notar sus dotes y sugirió que el destino de Millie estaba en la ciudad de las estrellas, y que debía trasladarse a Hollywood.

Es por eso que, siguiendo esa recomendación, su familia la apoyó y la acompañó a Los Ángeles donde apenas tenían dinero para subsistir, pero el hecho de poder acompañarla a sus castings siempre fue mucho más importante. Así es cómo, con el apoyo de sus padres y sus hermanos, Millie consiguió hacer su debut televisivo en la serie "Once Upon a Time in Wonderland" para, un año después, trabajar en "Intruders" y en "NCIS".

Tras esto, pasó su carrera a diversas apariciones en "Modern Family" y "Grey´s Anatomy", pero a diferencia de actores que tenían el privilegio de ser "hijos de", Millie Bobby Brown obtuvo todo sola y, definitivamente, apariciones esporádicas no eran su sueño y, asimismo, la plata se les estaba acabando. Es por eso que, antes de volver a Londres, quedaba una única esperanza: el casting de "Stranger Things" y, en esta ocasión, el dicho "la última es la vencida" superó cualquier expectativa.

Y a raíz de Stranger Things también llegó una de las noticias más extravagantes de su vida: se convirtió en una de las actrices más jóvenes en ser nominada a los Premios Emmy, por consiguiente, llegó a ser nombrada a tan sólo sus 14 años por la revista Time la nombró entre las 100 personas más influyentes del mundo. Y una de las pruebas es su cuenta de Instagram en la actualidad: tiene más de 60 millones de seguidores, es una de las actrices jóvenes más seguidas del mundo y su público se mantiene siempre fiel a sus publicaciones.

Pero, con la fama de la serie de Netflix, Millie se abrió una puerta que, hoy por hoy, es imparable. Pues, consiguió hacer su gran carrera tanto en cine como televisión y en su currículo cuentan producciones como "Godzilla: King of the Monsters" (2019), "Enola Holmes" (2020), "Godzila vs. Kong" (2021), "Enola Holmes 2" (2022). Además, tiene otros dos proyectos pendientes como "The Thing About Jellyfish" y "The Girls I’ve Been" al igual que su próxima película en Netflix, "Damsel", la cual llega el próximo 8 de marzo y es una de las más esperadas de la plataforma.

Bobby Brown también alcanzó otras metas como incursionar en el mundo de la moda y la belleza: tiene su propia marca de cosmética y maquillaje, Florence by Mills, y acaba de lanzar una nueva línea de ropa, Florence by Mills Fashion.

A su vez, es la embajadora más joven en la historia de Unicef

Millie mantuvo durante siete meses una relación con el cantante Jacob Sartorius, entre 2017 y 2018, la cual terminó con denuncias de acoso y violencia. Después de esto, la joven estuvo emparejada con el tiktoker Hunter Ecimovik, pero no fue hasta que llegó su relación con Jake Bongiovi cuando encontró la felicidad.

Con el joven, con quien se conoció a través de amigos en común, Millie se comprometió en abril del 2023 y está a punto de dar el "sí quiero". A pesar de su corta edad, ya demostró tener el valor suficiente para afrontar una nueva etapa de su vida. Eso sí, sin nunca dejar de lado su carrera la cual, a sus tan sólo 20 años que cumple hoy, ya es una de las más destacadas de la generación Z de Hollywood.

Hace 14 años fue lanzado Monster Hunter tri. Es la tercera entrega principal para consolas de la franquicia Monster Hunter, desarrollado por Capcom y lanzado para el Wii de Nintendo.

El juego fue originalmente planeado para ser un título de PlayStation 3, pero debido a los altos costos de desarrollo para esa consola, decidieron desarrollarlo para el Wii. Antes de su debut, un demo de Monster Hunter Tri fue incluido con las copias japonesas de Monster Hunter G. Un paquete especial fue lanzado con un Wii negro, y un Classic Controller Pro.

High School AU - W.I.P.

Mystery Project (Mysteryland Mysteries (4Kids Touhou)) AU - "Mysteryland is a remote town somewhere in the Eastern States of America (ESA) of our current time, where magic is of common use and monsters with the shape of human girls roam around and make everyone's life miserable. Only few people can freely enter and exit Mysteryland, because it is guarded by the famous monster hunter Rachel Heartway, who's in charge of the border that encompasses the town... as in, it is a literal border, with checkpoints and fences."

"The rules of Mysteryland work pretty similar as those in Gensokyo. Monsters still use "power cards" in order to avoid any killing and censorship, and everyone has a "secret power". For example, Letty has the power to predict the weather by 95% correctness, and Ichirin has the power to distort any pictures shot of UFOs."

"Most of the girls go to Junior High and live at home with their parents, even some of the monsters do."

Luz and Vee sat on the couch, their faces contorted as they concentrated on the game in front of them. Their game nights never usually get this intense, but would one expect any less in a game of Mario Kart?

"You're going down!" Luz screamed.

"Says someone in third place!" Vee countered.

Ding-dong!

"Get that."

"You get that, third place."

"I won't be in third place for long!"

Ding-Dong!

"Girls!" Camila called from another room. But Luz and Vee still didn't respond.

Ding-Dong! Ding-Dong!

"Girls, can you get that?" Camila called again.

"We're busy!" both sisters shouted back in unison.

"...Who's closer to last place?"

"Luz is!"

"Luz, get the door!"

"Ha!"

"Dang it!" Luz paused the game, but she already knew Vee would unpause it the second she left.

Ding-Dong!

"Alright, I'm coming!" Luz announced as she opened the door, "Who is--"

But her words died in her throat. Because standing in front of her was Hunter. His lip was bloodied, his right eye blackened, and his left hand tightly gripped a birdcage that held his bird in it.

"...Hunter?" Luz asked, the shock wearing off.

"Hey," he said, his voice cracking, "Can we, uh...can we stay here tonight?"

Hunter numbly sat on the couch, with his pet bird playfully nipping at his ear to make him feel better. It didn't work.

He glanced at the kitchen, seeing Luz look through the freezer and Camila pacing back and forth, swearing in Spanish as she talked on the phone.

"Are you sure you're ok?"

Hunter looked to his right, seeing Vee staring at him, twidling her hands nervously.

"...I'm alive," he provided, "That should count for something."

Vee opened her mouth but just as quickly closed it. She wanted to say more but came up empty over what could be said. Just then, Luz walked up with a bag of frozen peas, handing them over to Hunter.

"Sorry, we don't have any real icepacks," she said as he took the peas, "Hope it helps, though."

"Thanks," Hunter muttered, gently pressing the peas onto his black eye while still wincing at the slight pain. "And before you ask, I'm not telling you what happened."

"And I'm not asking."

Hunter blinked at that.

"You're not?"

"Nope," Luz shook her head, "Clearly, something bad happened and...I'd say it's Belos who caused it. But the how and why aren't what I want to know right now. What I want to know is this: Are you ok?"

Hunter paused in consideration.

"...I'm...I'm at least slightly better now. Honest."

"Good," Luz smiled, "And, if you ever want to talk, just know that I'm here to listen."

"I know...thank you."

"Of course."

"¡Esa mujer DEMONIO!" Camila shouted, hanging up the phone as she walked over to the three teens by the couch. "That was Lilith. And the amount of convincing I had to do to make sure she didn't come here was insurmountable!"

"So she's not coming here?" Hunter asked, the slight fear in his voice noticeable.

"...Luz, Vee, can I have a word with Hunter?" Camila asked her daughters.

"Ok."

"Si mamá."

Both girls went to leave the room and headed for the stairs, with Luz pausing just as she was about to exit.

"I hope you feel even better," she said with a smile.

"I will," Hunter nodded, "...Loser."

"Jerk."

With that, Luz fully left the room, leaving Camila and Hunter alone in silence.

"...Can we not talk about what happened?" Hunter begged.

"Only if you don't want to," Camila said as she took a seat. "And do you not want to?"

"No."

"Then we won't."

"Thank you..."

"Of course, dear," Camila patted his shoulder. "And no. Lilith isn't coming. Belos' assistant can eat it for all I care."

"Good," Hunter nodded, "That's good...I'm sorry."

"You are not the one who should be apologizing. That honor goes to that monster of an uncle of yours."

"Yeah, but...I shouldn't be putting you through this. I'm not your responsibility."

"Maybe not. But that doesn't mean I'm going to turn away a poor child who needs my help."

Hunter didn't respond to that. Instead, he stared at his lap.

"...We can still spend the night, right? My bird and me?"

"You don't even have to ask," Camila shook her head, standing up, "I'll go get the guest room ready for you now."

"That's not necessary. I could just sleep on the couch."

"You've been through enough tonight. In no way am I just letting you sleep on our insanely uncomfortable couch."

"But--"

"No buts. Not for this."

"...Ok."

Feeling satisfied, Camila turned to leave.

"Ms. Noceda?"

"Yes?" Camila looked back to Hunter, seeing tears streak down his face.

"Thank you," he squeaked. And that's all Camila needed to walk over and give him a soft, warm hug.

"Anytime."

Telescopes and spacecraft join forces to probe deep into Jupiter's atmosphere

NASA's Hubble Space Telescope and the ground-based Gemini Observatory in Hawaii have teamed up with the Juno spacecraft to probe the mightiest storms in the solar system, taking place more than 500 million miles away on the giant planet Jupiter.

A team of researchers led by Michael Wong at the University of California, Berkeley, and including Amy Simon of NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, and Imke de Pater also of UC Berkeley, are combining multiwavelength observations from Hubble and Gemini with close-up views from Juno's orbit about the monster planet, gaining new insights into turbulent weather on this distant world.

"We want to know how Jupiter's atmosphere works," said Wong. This is where the teamwork of Juno, Hubble and Gemini comes into play.

Radio 'Light Show'

Jupiter's constant storms are gigantic compared to those on Earth, with thunderheads reaching 40 miles from base to top -- five times taller than typical thunderheads on Earth -- and powerful lightning flashes up to three times more energetic than Earth's largest "superbolts."

Like lightning on Earth, Jupiter's lightning bolts act like radio transmitters, sending out radio waves as well as visible light when they flash across the sky.

Every 53 days, Juno races low over the storm systems detecting radio signals known as "sferics" and "whistlers," which can then be used to map lightning even on the day side of the planet or from deep clouds where flashes are not otherwise visible.

Coinciding with each pass, Hubble and Gemini watch from afar, capturing high-resolution global views of the planet that are key to interpreting Juno's close-up observations. "Juno's microwave radiometer probes deep into the planet's atmosphere by detecting high-frequency radio waves that can penetrate through the thick cloud layers. The data from Hubble and Gemini can tell us how thick the clouds are and how deep we are seeing into the clouds," Simon explained.

By mapping lightning flashes detected by Juno onto optical images captured of the planet by Hubble and thermal infrared images captured at the same time by Gemini, the research team has been able to show that lightning outbreaks are associated with a three-way combination of cloud structures: deep clouds made of water, large convective towers caused by upwelling of moist air -- essentially Jovian thunderheads -- and clear regions presumably caused by downwelling of drier air outside the convective towers.

The Hubble data show the height of the thick clouds in the convective towers, as well as the depth of deep water clouds. The Gemini data clearly reveal the clearings in the high-level clouds where it is possible to get a glimpse down to the deep water clouds.

Wong thinks that lightning is common in a type of turbulent area known as folded filamentary regions, which suggests that moist convection is occurring in them. "These cyclonic vortices could be internal energy smokestacks, helping release internal energy through convection," he said. "It doesn't happen everywhere, but something about these cyclones seems to facilitate convection."

The ability to correlate lightning with deep water clouds also gives researchers another tool for estimating the amount of water in Jupiter's atmosphere, which is important for understanding how Jupiter and the other gas and ice giants formed, and therefore how the solar system as a whole formed.

While much has been gleaned about Jupiter from previous space missions, many of the details -- including how much water is in the deep atmosphere, exactly how heat flows from the interior and what causes certain colors and patterns in the clouds -- remain a mystery. The combined result provides insight into the dynamics and three-dimensional structure of the atmosphere.

Seeing a 'Jack-O-Lantern' Red Spot

With Hubble and Gemini observing Jupiter more frequently during the Juno mission, scientists are also able to study short-term changes and short-lived features like those in the Great Red Spot.

Images from Juno as well as previous missions to Jupiter revealed dark features within the Great Red Spot that appear, disappear and change shape over time. It was not clear from individual images whether these are caused by some mysterious dark-colored material within the high cloud layer, or if they are instead holes in the high clouds -- windows into a deeper, darker layer below.

Now, with the ability to compare visible-light images from Hubble with thermal infrared images from Gemini captured within hours of each other, it is possible to answer the question. Regions that are dark in visible light are very bright in infrared, indicating that they are, in fact, holes in the cloud layer. In cloud-free regions, heat from Jupiter's interior that is emitted in the form of infrared light -- otherwise blocked by high-level clouds -- is free to escape into space and therefore appears bright in Gemini images.

"It's kind of like a jack-o-lantern," said Wong. "You see bright infrared light coming from cloud-free areas, but where there are clouds, it's really dark in the infrared."

Hubble and Gemini as Jovian Weather Trackers

The regular imaging of Jupiter by Hubble and Gemini in support of the Juno mission is proving valuable in studies of many other weather phenomena as well, including changes in wind patterns, characteristics of atmospheric waves and the circulation of various gases in the atmosphere.

Hubble and Gemini can monitor the planet as a whole, providing real-time base maps in multiple wavelengths for reference for Juno's measurements in the same way that Earth-observing weather satellites provide context for NOAA's high-flying Hurricane Hunters.

"Because we now routinely have these high-resolution views from a couple of different observatories and wavelengths, we are learning so much more about Jupiter's weather," explained Simon. "This is our equivalent of a weather satellite. We can finally start looking at weather cycles."

Because the Hubble and Gemini observations are so important for interpreting Juno data, Wong and his colleagues Simon and de Pater are making all of the processed data easily accessible to other researchers through the Mikulski Archives for Space Telescopes (MAST) at the Space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore, Maryland.

"What's important is that we've managed to collect this huge data set that supports the Juno mission. There are so many applications of the data set that we may not even anticipate. So, we're going to enable other people to do science without that barrier of having to figure out on their own how to process the data," Wong said.

The results were published in April 2020 in The Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series.

The Hubble Space Telescope is a project of international cooperation between NASA and ESA (the European Space Agency). NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, manages the telescope. The Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) in Baltimore conducts Hubble science operations. STScI is operated for NASA by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy (AURA) in Washington, D.C. AURA operates the Gemini Observatory for the international Gemini partnership including the U.S., Canada, Chile, Argentina, Brazil and the Republic of Korea. NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, manages the Juno mission for the Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio, Texas. Juno is part of NASA's New Frontiers Program, which is managed at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, for NASA's Science Mission Directorate.
