Enabled by the 2 notes on my “do you want this AU” post, here it is, or at least part of it because it got LONG:

Okay, so

I was gonna introduce my OCs but screw it, let's just talk about the world instead

So I'm gonna establish that this is alternate history

The change is that there's way more schools (well-funded ones at that!) accepting commoners and girls, due to the efforts of a certain charity organization's efforts. I don't have a name for them, but let's call them Tulip.

Shit's doing this well because Tulip has been a thing for 20 years.

Tulip is no ordinary charity org, however

We'll get back to that

It has three founders: Willard Hans Seymour, Shannon Seymour, and Edmund Velvet. We'll also get to them later.

With that preamble aside, we dive into the story proper

Young Albert is part of the London branch of Tulip. He really likes them, he's only met Shannon once and the other two founders never, but he admires her a lot and inwardly wishes she could be his mother instead. His father, Earl Murtagh (changed Moriarty to Murtagh, expect many name changes to pop up) still does acts of charity but only for appearance and good reputation, as in canon. Albert meets and adopts the two brothers as in canon (renamed Olivier and Lewis respectively) and things go roughly the same for a while.

Until Willard and his daughter Erianne swing in like a wrecking ball

Okay, more like two sudden and very courteous guests at the Murtagh estate but my point still stands

Albert and the Earl chat with father and daughter, but oh Willard's not here to chat with a faker, he's on a mission. He basically manipulates the conversation to make the Earl suggest Albert show Erianne around while the adults chatted.

Alright then.

Albert has heard of Erianne, heard of this girl so much like her mother, the girl who won a court case representing the lawyer-less workers of some workhouse just recently. She had yet to appear in London up until this point, and he notes her attire is... odd. The skirt silhouette is normal like what a girl her age should wear, but she paired that off with the shirt waistcoat and coat combo of menswear style.

Okay...?

As soon as they're in the garden out of earshot of anyone present she asks that he take her to his newly adopted brothers

Albert's heart drops because he knows what his family's doing to them is shit, he tries but he can't stop it, and it'd make a really bad impression in the eyes of the daughter of a charity org founder he really admires

In case the weight of the situation hasn't sank in yet, lemme clarify

Albert feels like an outsider in his own house. He can't relate to his family, his family thinks there's something wrong with his head and acts like it too, and not even the servants are on his side. They obey his mother over him. He may be heir but he has no power.

And at school... what makes you think he had friends, in an environment where children of classist families congregate? With none who shares his ideals?

Tulip had been his only solace

So in his mind: lose their respect -> lose the only place he's ever felt he belonged

So understandably he's panicking a whole lot

Erianne states that she already knows what's going on, her parents know, and they're going to help. But first she must meet them. So he takes her to... I'm not sure whether it should be his room or the brothers' room, but she basically gets to meet them, and reveals that her parents are gonna get the three out of this family's grasp but it will take time and probably would end in the family's death.

Albert is shaken but he steels his resolve, Olivier and Lewis are... suspicious but they decide to ride along.

There originally was a scene where Willard sneaks into the two brothers' room late at night and calls Albert there too, and they hash out a plan together, but I'm considering scrapping it— replacing it with some sneaky meetings at the org office instead, but whatever the case is they are given a plan of what'll happen next, and also somewhere along the way revealed that Willard is actually a notorious underground Robin Hood figure criminal Robin Kinglet. Probably in the scene Erianne meets them for the first time but hm...

Oh yes the criminal thing

Let me explain

Tulip is actually one of the many fronts of an underground criminal/rebel organization who's against monarchy and pretty much sick and done with the British Empire's BS

They intend to go through a revolution and instate a republic instead

Willard is no mere jovial harmless looking man, he's an active information gatherer and leader of said many crimes and schemes and all the shit going on underneath to fund and prepare the org

Shannon and Edmund are of course in on the thing 100%

Two new maids are employed at the Murtagh estate, but they're actually spies/agents sent in by Tulip™ to help the boys endure and also keep contact with Willard.

Something happens that tanks the reputation of the Earl and the family even if Albert's stayed relatively clean, I haven't decided what yet but the three brothers know it was orchestrated by Willard. Servants quit their job at the estate, that kinda stuff happens, until the kids and the two maids set fire to the manor, after which the two maids disappear into the night, so as to not get caught. They returned to their base.

Lewis still burns his own face deliberately, which reduced ppl's suspicions and it'd be actually shown. Lewis is smart, okay!!

No one complained when Willard swooped in to foster the children, the children of a fallen family and two of them orphans anyways. The three brothers live with Shannon and Willard in the countryside estate— their main base of operations.

The AU spans from their childhood to all the way up until they win the war— probably around 1870s but could probably go longer than that. Shenanigans ensue, basically:

Featuring: History professor Olivier, politician Albert, lawyer Lewis who works exclusively for commoners and victims of the wealthy and nobles' bullshit

Erianne and Lewis are lawyer buddies

Ollie, his eventual love interest, and not-Sherlock are locked in a three-way rivalry. A great many things have exploded or burnt to dust.

Not-Sherlock has no love interest as of yet.

Lewis gets a boyfriend. As a bonus the boyfriend is trans and he's very soft.

Not-Bondler is actually trans. His name is Jaime Bondler. His love interest is not-Watson.

Not-Mycroft is an antagonist as is Queen Victoria. Moneypenny too.

So uh, that's it for now, I actually have a lot more under the surface such as backstories and everything, additional cast members, the structure of Tulip the rebel org, etc, but imma stop here now. This post must be hella long.

do you think louis and liam’s parents are dead or just abandoned by them at a very early age?

Questions like this always baffle me. They're referred to as orphans in the meta text so often that I literally would never think to question that even though it's not in the text itself.

It feels like a conspiracy theory, in the way that things like this are trying so hard to come up with a more complicated explanation for something that simply does not need one. Why is this detail something we have to question?

I like questioning and interrogating things I read. It's an important part of critical reading. But part of that is knowing, well, what questions to even ask. And usually the questions are things like, "Why is this in text?" and "What purpose is this serving?" and "How do these story pieces fit together?" not "What if what we're told is all lies?"

I mean, of course it's all lies; it's fiction and not presented as truth. At a certain point in reading things, you just have to accept that the story presented is the story presented. And yes, sometimes the story is much more layered, subtle, and more complicated than it first appears. But this is...simply not one of them. There is no indication there's anymore more to this at all.

If you can't, at some point, accept and agree to believe what fiction is telling you, there's not a lot of point in bothering to read it, in my opinion. It's what suspension of disbelief is, in many way.

And when you're reading something presented as truth, the question is still not really, "What if what we're told is all lies?" but "What purpose is this serving?" and "Why is this in the text?"

Consider the following:

The three Moriarty brothers are, together, James Moriarty.

James Moriarty is “like a spider,” his “web has a thousand radiations, and he knows well every quiver of each of them.”

James Moriarty, the spider, weaves his threads both metaphorically and literally.

James Moriarty, the spider, by the logic of idiom which calls glasses a second pair of eyes, has eight eyes: two eyes for Albert, two eyes for William, and four eyes for Louis.

After the Final Problem, after the dissolution of the Lord of Crime, the spidery object-metaphor breaks down: Louis no longer wears the glasses, and Liam wears an eye patch. Moriarty the spider is no more!

I desperately wish either Albert or Louis carried a cane so I could extend this terrible pun-theory to eight legs by Sphinx's-riddle rules but alas I think they both sometimes use a cane in the anime and neither in the manga so we're at either 7 or 9. As Sherlock would say "It is a capital [BUT SUPER FUN] mistake to theorize before one has data. Insensibly one begins to twist facts to suit theories, instead of theories to suit facts." I'm not twisting any facts Mr. Holmes I'm just ignoring them

It's a dimly lit hallway, with walls covered in papers— some fresh as dew and some so old they've torn and faded to shreds. The writing has blurred on so many of these, it's hard to make out the full sentences anymore, only fragments of them. The fresh papers haphazardly slapped on top of the old ones certainly doesn't help with their legibility either— a cacophony of forgotten notes and half-formed sentences. Do they ever intend to tidy these walls up? I hope not, I like the chaos of it.

As we walk I hear chatter and laughter from beyond our footsteps. The floors seem to rumble with them, the walls thrumming with life. Despite the fast-approaching autumn chill this place is nothing but warm. I hope to find a home here, as many have. I hope to be part of it, as none other than my true self.

A snippet from the perspective of Jaime Bondler (aka not YuuMori James Bonde that I'd claimed for myself, totally not!). He's joining the rebel organization totally of his own free will and by zero pressure on his life and safety :) Also I hope to portray the part where he actually gets to choose his name.

Summary:

Life is idyllic and unassuming in the small town of Sotoba, a simple place where everyone knows everyone. However, tragedy strikes when Megumi Shimizu, a young girl with high aspirations, unexpectedly passes away from an unnamed illness. Over the torrid summer months, as more unexplained deaths crop up around the village, the town's doctor—Toshio Ozaki—begins to suspect that something more sinister than a mere disease is at play.

Toshio teams up with Natsuno Yuuki, an apathetic and aloof teenager, and siblings Kaori and Akira Tanaka, two of Megumi's friends, to unravel the dark mystery behind the deaths in Sotoba. With their combined efforts, the investigation leads them toward an eerie secret pertaining to the new family in the Kanemasa mansion.

Conflict is inevitable. Conflict is completely justified, in the eyes of both groups. Conflict is still terrifying. Shiki though, is actually a horror story about human nature. You have little choice about whether you end up a human or a vampire. You, dear viewer, and capable of inflicting unimaginable violence and misery, and you will think yourself completely justified. You’re only trying to protect yourself, aren’t you?

Summary:

During the late 19th century, Great Britain has become the greatest empire the world has ever known. Hidden within its success, the nation's rigid economic hierarchy dictates the value of one's life solely on status and wealth. To no surprise, the system favors the aristocracy at the top and renders it impossible for the working class to ascend the ranks.

William James Moriarty, the second son of the Moriarty household, lives as a regular noble while also being a consultant for the common folk to give them a hand and solve their problems. However, deep inside him lies a desire to destroy the current structure that dominates British society and those who benefit from it.

Alongside his brothers Albert and Louis, William will do anything it takes to change the filthy world he lives in—even if blood must be spilled.

Propaganda:

The story isn’t quite on par with the manga (solely due to there being not enough episodes to cover full character arcs), but the ‘eat the rich’ vibes are immaculate, the plot is complex and interesting, the queercoding and subtext are both wonderfully done, AND there is a CANON TRANS CHARACTER !!!!

william has always been one to fight for what he knows is right - of course, as a man who grew up in the outskirts of society and the social heirarchy, the core of his being relied on the change of the very system that belittles his existence. as early as a young child he already knew that he wanted to abolish the peerage, and he already knew what to do achieve that. once he knew how his adoptive family (mainly the bitch ass kid and mom) would get rid of them, he enacted the first step of his plan - commit the perfect crime to erase themselves of murder, clean up their past, erase their history of living in the slums, and to inherit the title of count (or lord, i'm not sure which lmao). he knew that his social status is important to his plan, thus the first step was to obtain power.

it's a curious thing that mtp's focus was on liam instead of sherly, and to me, a great interpretation of the original sherlock holmes. i will confess that i never read the original books, nor have i watched any series or movies, and my only point of reference being a critique on bbc's sherlock. and from what i watched from the video and read from the comments, bbc's sherlock is not the best adaption of doyle's original work.

the video mainly criticized the lack of faith in the original works and the abysmal characterization of sherlock and moriarty (also mtp is the only adaptation i'm aware of wherein james moriarty are three people instead of one), stating that sherlock's ability to solve cases was not due to his deductive abilities, but due to his insane intelligence. of course sherlock by design is intelligent, but the writers didn't know how to write a clever/intelligent character.

ANYWAY ENOUGH OF THAT LMAO

liam is cunning and somewhat coy, and uses that to his advantage. he plays the charismatic professor, the kind and merciful lord of his estate, which only really amplifies his already strong distaste for the aristocracy. my favorite part about liam is the way that his character brings out the worst of the aristocracy. it's such an interesting aspect of his characterization - to destroy what he hates, he has to bring out that part of the aristocracy. he pretends to be just like the very people he hates, to blend in and to hit where it hurts.

sherly, however, does not have the same burning passion for eating the rich. instead, he prefers a good puzzle to solve, to work his brain muscles. all that sherly wants in life, is someone who is of the same caliber as him. sherly was introduced and immediately set up as the one to kill liam, instead of liam killing him, like in the original sherlock. from the very start, just from how sherly and liam interact, it's safe to say that these two will forever be bound together.

sherly is stubborn when it comes to solving cases - he never relents until the truth is discovered, and he loathes being given the answer without working towards that conclusion himself. this was seen when irene was in the church with albert. he told irene to write his name on paper and put it in the envelope, to which sherly would open whenever he suspects irene has died. even when news of irene dying reached him, he burned the letter. he's stubborn, and even when liam wanted to die by his own hands, sherly was there to prevent that from happening
