Percy: Hey, guys. Uh, Nico, why don't you go to your room and rest. We need to talk.

Nico: Mkay. *leaves*

Percy: Make sure to do your homework, alright?

Nici: Uh huh!

Reyna: What happened?

Jason: Is he okay?

Percy: ...we need to call the team

---Later---

At one of their rooms:

Percy: Good day, everyone. I know it's late and it's unusual for me to call a meeting at this time but this is an emergency

Annabeth: But first, an attendance check. Annabeth? Here. Bianca?

Hazel: Oh, she comes back next week

Annabeth: Ok. Jason? Here. Thalia? Here. Percy? Here. Hazel? Here. Piper? Here. Reyna? Here. Will? Here. Grover? Here. Leo? Here. Frank? Here. And Mr. D? Present! Ok, that should be everyone. Take it away Percy

Percy, clearing his throat: Okay, I need you guys to swear that you will not go berserk right after this and you will remain seated until we have a plan.

Everyone:

Percy: So, I was picking up Nico from class. On the drive back, he...

Hazel: He what?

Percy: He...asked me what a faggot was.

Everyone:

Thalia: WHAT THE FUCK?!?!

Will: Is he okay?!

Hazel: Where did he even learn that from?!

Jason: Did someone call him that?!?!?

Reyna: WHO THE HELL WOULD CALL HIM THAT?!?!?

Leo: Every single douchebag in school, of course!

Piper: You think they'd learn their lesson after the first time

Percy: *gavels* Order! Order!

Grover: I think we're all missing the point here. How's Nico doing?

Percy: He's fine. I asked him where he knew the word from. He said someone was calling him that, a couple of students a year above him apparently.

Frank: What happened then?

Percy: I asked him if he knew their names. He didn't and he asked me again what it meant.

Will: What did you say?

Percy: I didn't answer. There was a McDonalds right there and I went for it. He took the bait and has been quiet for the whole car ride.

Grover: So...what do we do?

Leo: OH! *raises his hand* WE'LL SET THEIR LOCKERS ON FIRE!

Thalia: I think what Grover meant was what do we do for now? We don't know these guys, and we don't know how much it's affecting Nico.

Reyna: Thalia's right. We need to have a plan to protect Nico and catch these bastards.

Annabeth: Percy and I already thought about it.

Percy: Introducing the Pick up/Drop off Nico Chart. We each get a schedule of when to pick him up, and when to drop him off

Annabeth: And to make sure we catch these guys, we think it would be best to see Nico off to his classrooms or at least the building.

Thalia, raising her hand: Uhm-

Percy: Don't worry. We adjusted it for times you guys are away. Which is why we used magnets to represent us. See? I'm the water droplet, Annabeth's the owl, Grover's the goat, Leo's the fire, you're the tree, Hazel's the-

Annabeth: They get it, Percy. All in favor of the chart say aye

Everyone, raises their hand: Aye!

Leo: So how are we gonna get back at these guys?

Jason: We could tell them off to the dean

Percy: You'd suggest that, wouldn't you, Mr. Goody Two Shoes?

Piper: I can charmspeak them to do embarassing stuff

Percy: Eh, we need something more

Annabeth: I'm writing that one down, it sounds funny

Mr D.: I am the God of Insanity. I can just drive them crazy.

Annabeth: Mr. D, no.

Percy: Not a bad idea though. I'm writing it down.

Will: Wait. I think I figured out another problem

Percy: What is it, Will?

Will: Who tells Bianca?

Everyone:

Percy: ...all in favor of keeping this a secret from Bianca, say aye?

Everyone, terrified: Aye!

Will: Whu- Percy, no. Remember that time you didn't tell her about how you accidentally destoryed Nico's mythomagic cards and made him sad for nearly a month?

Percy: *shivers* I still get nightmares from that.

Annabeth: Fine. Who tells her?

Everyone: *looks at Reyna and Thalia*

Reyna: No

Thalia: Absolutely not.

Mr. D: Hang on. If Bianca is so terrifying, why not just give the guys to her?

Percy: Mr. D, although that's a tempting plan, there is no telling what Bianca will do to those guys if we let her get near them.

Mr. D: She can't be THAT scary.

Everyone: Yes, she can.

Percy: With what she did to me? She might as well have sent me to Tartarus!

Frank: Gods, what did she do to him?

Annabeth: She took away all the blue in our apartment and replaced them with orange.

Percy: It took a month before she put them back! There was no blue food for a month!

Rewatching the first two episodes of the Percy Jackson series for like the fifth time like any sane person and just wanted to make a comprehensive (and I mean comprehensive so bear with me here) list of all my thoughts, however unhinged they may be so here goes.

EPISODE 1

Walker’s monologue at the beginning gives such great background and I’m not gonna lie it destroyed me hearing ‘look I didn’t want to be a half-blood’ as the first words. Not to mention the fact that half of that monologue is pretty much word for word from the book which is something I die over whenever it happens

Blackjack looking out for Percy - we love a bit of foreshadowing

The light that comes into the picture when he says things changed when he met Grover. This is literally everything to me, I am so glad even just in the first two episodes they’re showing how strong of a bond they have. Also let’s not forget that they have Mythomagic cards

Sally Jackson (my goddess) imparting words of fucking wisdom - ‘not everyone who looks like a hero is a hero and not everyone who looks like a monster is a monster’

Also her explaining to Percy the story of Perseus (his name sake) - like I am sorry but the centring of the mother/son relationship which only amplifies once Percy loses her is something I don’t know how to explain how much I love (like her even prays to her over his father who is a literal god but we’ll get to that later). ‘hold fast Perseus, brave the storm that was made to break us for we are unbreakable as long as we have each other’ 😭

‘hang on to that, it is a mighty instrument’ - oh yeah it is

Grover spouting scientific facts about bullying - ‘childhood trauma, feelings of inadequacy’ - like he’s written a research paper on it 🤣

Percy and Grover swapping things on their sandwich like they’re siblings

‘I was thinking more like shoving Nancy in the nearest dumpster’ and there mischievous smile afterwards - oh I love you Percy

Grover saying ‘If there’s one thing I know about bullies, you should never stand up to them’ and Percy saying ‘that doesn’t sound right’

I was a little underwhelmed with the whole Mrs Dodds encounter. I don’t know I think I just expected something longer and with the whole drama of Mr Brunner throwing Percy the pen but I think maybe in hindsight it makes more sense cause it’s easier to convince Percy that it didn’t happen

Gotta say that the first time I watched the scene in the principals office I did not even realise Rick was in it but now I can’t not see him

Grover ‘betraying’ Percy was heartbreaking cause you know Grover doesn’t want to do it but knows that he has to and you know that Percy feels like he has lost the only friend he had

Actually really glad that Eddie is a nice sympathetic guy not one of Gabe’s poker buddies

Still disappointed by Gabe - I still think he needed to be a bit more grimy and disgusting (and the way he talks in the scene was just not right for me, don’t know whether it was the acting or the script but it was a no from me). Though Percy’s ‘Losing at imaginary poker’ line was funny

Logical and Sally Jackson. That is all. Just know that I actively sob every time I watch this. Also her sitting in the rain so contentedly will never not hit me, on a personal level knowing how certain things can just provide peace and an escape from life otherwise but also more contextually with her and Poseidon (bottom line: water is the ultimate comfort)

Of course Sally believes Percy and brings him blue candy. Keeping the most important themes of the book. The mother-son bond (which I will to more later) and the blue

I always thought Brunner was pronounced runner but with a b in front of it

D’Angelo’s - yes I will take any peace of nico that I am given (fingers crossed for the lotus casino scenes)

My kin sally Jackson crying in a car while watching her son sleep knowing what lies ahead, nope sorry but I’m not okay and neither is she

‘You fell in love with god, like-like Jesus?’ - oh Percy my love. If nothing else this is who Percy Jackson is.

Percy fully believing that something is wrong with him because that’s what he’s always been told

‘What is he doing here, I don’t want to see him’. Grover and his impeccable timing and panic. Don’t get me started on why I think the ‘You didn’t tell him about me?’, ‘You’re early’ exchange between Grover and Sally is the funniest thing to me.

‘Why is there half a goat in your pants?’ and ‘Why is it wearing underpants?’ - Percy asking the important questions here

I honestly don’t know how they didn’t figure out Percy was Poseidon’s son after the whole Nancy no of it and then Clarissa like it was quite obvious

‘I’m actually 24’ oh Grover we know you bleat when you’re anxious

Sally’s goodbye to Percy - I am a sucker for sadness

I do agree that riptide should be bigger but the only thing I can think is that maybe it’ll grow with him

EPISODE 2

‘You drool when you sleep’ the iconic line. It kinda disappointed me not going to lie.

PETER JOHNSON-pretending to be Percy’s father-PETER-using Percy to break the rules Dionysus introduction and pipeline (oh he is horribly perfect)

‘Yeah but did you’ persassy is in the house and I hope he never leaves (one of my favourite lines and the way walker delivers it is perfection)

Camp looks incredible. I know people have issues with the grandeur of it all but that’s the way things work in the film industry and I personal adore it

And can we talk about Chiron’s injured back leg. Like am I forgetting something (probably) but I don’t remembered him being injured

For those who don’t know, finding out that like is the bad guy is probably gonna destroy them. Charlie bushnell really was like I’m gonna make everyone love me only for them to be crushed (and even though I know I am still gonna hurt - yes I have a soft spot for Luke)

I was so confused when Grover went into the woods and saw the council (it was the only part that I was like what in the world is this, this wasn’t in the books)

Luke being the one the comfort Percy and show him around - oh a genius choice narrative wise but I do miss my girl Annabeth

Introduction to Clarisse was everything - Dior is my goddess

‘Should I try again’ and the resounding ‘NO!’

‘Is there a Greek God of disappointment. Maybe someone should ask him if he’s missing a kid’ - Percy Percy Percy stop making me love you more than I already do like I don’t think my heart can take it

Then Chris’s lovely little tangent and Luke going man why the fuck are you saying this and reassuring Percy - you go storyline building up the loveable Luke (I’m already hurting)

‘They like the smell of begging’ - top teir line

‘You burn what you’re gonging to miss the most’ flash forward to Percy taking this and burning his blue candy praying, not to his father who is an actual god, but to his mother (I cannot handle this, like this kid knows that his mum is the real goddess)

Walker’s voice breaking on ‘well’ - I am sobbing

And the fact that he says he made actual friends - the narrative damning us to inevitable torture

The resentment in his voice when talking about his father - I am so glad they leaned into this

I kinda loved the bathroom scene. And how we are first introduced to Annabeth in this and how she is her blunt self (still don’t know how they could not have known)

Like calling Annabeth his little sister and saying he will always be on her side (I am hurting even more - we never get to see Luke’s perspective in the books and this, this absolutely ruined me)

Pronunciation of Thalia is still going to take some getting used to

Chiron forever in that suit jacket and fence is just not sitting right with me - doesn’t fit the whole trainer of warrior vibe he should be giving

‘Not you sunshine’ - honestly better than seaweed brain

Percy tripping over the branch and Annabeth just standing there and her facial expression (on Leah you are everything)

‘When it’s time he’s going to be ready. I know it.’ Cut to a montage of Percy doing the most 12 year old things possible, including but not limited to flossing (which I thought was kind of out of place and cringe) and petting a random gecko (which I thought was out of place but one of the most hilarious things ever so I’ll give it a pass) while his helmet and weapons lay discarded

Percy I thought you were meant to be proving yourself to your dad to get his attention or something, telling people where the flag is to avoid a fight is not exactly how to do that

Honestly any time Dior is on my screen is a good time - her manic laugh and anguished scream Dior is the moment

Annabeth’s bluntness will always be everything to me - ‘listen, Percy, I’m sorry’ and Percy’s ‘what is wrong with you’ (top five moments of the show)

The reveal - Percy Jackson son of Poseidon

‘I am Sally Jackson’s son’ yeah you tell them Percy (you will always be first and foremost Sally Jackson’s son)

🌊Percabeth🦉 & ☀️Solangelo🌟

The Riordan Verse has a new book coming out that's focused solely on Nico and Will! Which I couldn't be more thrilled and excited about! It's called "The Sun and The Star" and I'm sooo ready for it. Like completely. And so I'm my excitement, I'm making a post dedicated to my 2 favorite Riordan Verse ships, Percabeth and Solangelo, because they are amazing 😍

Starting with Nico and Will, because it's their book that's coming out soon! They are the epitome of the golden retriever puppy and black cat trope. Lol i love it. And i fully anticipate and plan to add to this with quotes/moments between them that I love from the new book too. Also I'd hope it wouldn't need to be said, but spoilers for all PJO books from this point on, just to be on the safe side. If you don't want possible spoilers, don't read further!

"Nico,” I said at last, “shouldn’t you be sitting at the Hades table?”He shrugged. “Technically, yes. But if I sit alone at my table, strange things happen. Cracks open in the floor. Zombies crawl out and start roaming around. It’s a mood disorder. I can’t control it. That’s what I told Chiron.“And is it true?” I asked.Nico smiled thinly. “I have a note from my doctor.” Will raised his hand. “I’m his doctor.” “Chiron decided it wasn’t worth arguing about,” Nico said. “As long as I sit at a table with other people, like…oh, these guys for instance…the zombies stay away. Everybody’s happier.” Will nodded serenely. “It’s the strangest thing. Not that Nico would ever misuse his powers to get what he wants.” “Of course not,” Nico agreed."

"At this point, you may be wondering how I felt seeing my son with Nico di Angelo. I’ll admit I did not understand Will’s attraction to a child of Hades, but if the dark foreboding type was what made Will happy… Oh perhaps some of you are wondering how I felt seeing him with a boyfriend rather than a girlfriend. Percabeth have so many moments. Their relationship is so cute and so much fun! I could honestly talk about it all the time and they clearly love each other so much. The epitome of childhood friends to Lovers with so much bickering happening lol

"Annabeth's voice caught on the word friend. Percy was a lot more than that. Even boyfriend really didn't cover it. They'd been through so much together, at this point Percy was part of her--a sometimes annoying part, sure, but definitely a part she could not live without."

No funny bus—” All around the Romans, Charleston Harbor erupted like a Las Vegas fountain putting on a show. When the wall of seawater subsided, the three Romans were in the bay, spluttering and frantically trying to stay afloat in their armor. Percy stood on the dock, holding Annabeth’s dagger. “You dropped this,” he said, totally poker-faced. Annabeth threw her arms around him. “I love you!” “Guys,” Hazel interrupted. She had a little smile on her face. “We need to hurry."

"You promised, Seaweed Brain. We would not get separated! Ever again!" “You’re impossible!” “Love you too!"

"And it was the best underwater kiss of all time"

"We’re staying together’ he promised ‘you’re not getting away from me. Never again" Only then did she understand what would happen. A one way trip. A very hard fall. ‘As long as we’re together’ she said."

"Once she was gone, I knelt next to Annabeth and felt her forehead. She was still burning up. "You're cute when you're worried," she muttered. "Your eyebrows get all scrunched together." "You are not going to die while I owe you a favor," I said. "Why did you take that knife?" "You would've done the same for me." It was true. I guess we both knew it. Still, I felt like somebody was poking my heart with a cold metal rod."

"She put her hand on my spine, and my skin tingled. I moved her fingers to the one spot that grounded me to my mortal life. A thousand volts of electricity seemed to arc through my body."

“Annabeth ran in right behind him, and I’ll admit my heart did a little relay race in my chest when I saw her. It’s not that she tried to look good. We’d been doing so many combat missions lately, she hardly brushed her curly blond hair anymore, and she didn’t care what clothes she was wearing - usually the same old orange camp T-shirt and jeans, and once in a while her bronze armor. Her eyes were stormy gray. Most of the time we couldn’t get through a conversation without trying to strangle each other. Still, just seeing her made me feel fuzzy in the head."

"The world was ending and the only thing that really mattered was that she was alive"

They gave up immortality for each other, Annabeth was the only person/thing Percy remembered when Hera wiped his memory and he forgot everything else, even who he was, they fell into Hell for each other, literally. Annabeth was who Percy thought of to keep him tethered to life. Annabeth jumped in front of a knife for Percy. I mean honestly. I love them so much. And I love seeing snippets of them through others eyes in the later book series too.

I'm doing a Riordan Verse reread binge soon because both a TV show and a new book will be coming soon and my heart is soooo happy! These were some of my favorite books when I was younger snd they mostly still hold up as amazing even now!

Review/Analysis for the PJO TV show so far

I want to join in on the fun :) Will post two posts since I realised how much I wrote for episode one

SPOILERS

EPISODE ONE:

What I love/like:

Honestly, it is not too bad

I really like how the first mythological being Percy sees is a pegasus specifically a black pegasus (Imagine it's Blackjack). This is a little detail I also love since Percy's half-brother is Pegasus (And was born after Perseus slew Medusa)

On the topic of Medusa (My favourite myth btw is Perseus and Medusa), I really love how Sally says the whole quote about not every hero who kills a monster is a hero and not every monster is a monster (Which she mainly refers to Medusa). Which is 1. absolutely foreshadowing Tyson (CAN'T CHANGE MY MIND AND WE NEED A SEASON 2 JUST FOR TYSON) and 2. Alluding to some changes to Medusa's character (Considering Uncle Rick has said episode 3 will focus more on Medusa's actual character)

Side note for the quote: It just serves for the anti-gods narrative, considering how many monsters were kind of by-products of the gods NOT caring about mortals.

Mythomagic being somewhat more relevant to the characters and plot is also really an amazing change from the books, considering how it's always felt like a one-book thing.

The scene with Mrs Dodds is more compelling considering it was a convo they had in Percy's mind and it's easier to be like, oh she was all in your mind.

My heart hurt with THAT scene of Grover and Walker did an amazing job showing Percy's emotions.

A little change that I'm also really fond of is how Eddie isn't one of Gabe's poker buddies, which I love specifically due to what ends up happening to Gabe (And his buddies in the books). Speaking of Gabe, he's such an ass but he's kinda funny in a goofy way.

PERCY SASSING GABE IS GOLD. Like- POP OFF

Percy gets his sass from his mom

Also, was anyone else tearing up during Sally's talk with Percy? The actors did so well, and it's nice that Sally was the one to tell Percy about him being a demigod.

The scenes with Grover, Sally, and Percy were so funny. Sally: Boys. Grover: I'm actually 24.

Really small, but I love how the Minotaur sounds like an elephant (Don't ask why I just do).

The entire Minotaur fight scene was good, emotional (SALLY REACHING OUT FOR PERCY I CAN'T- ToT) and a little bit more logical (Much more believable that Percy broke its horn off and stabbed it in the head instead of the chest)

Neutral Ground:

The removal of names have power lore, which I like that it's removed for the monsters. I feel completely differently in the next episode.

Criticisms/Pet Peeves:

Why is Gabe using a laptop???? Won't that attract monsters? Also is he still Smelly Gabe??? It was never said and never implied.

You have come to the right place. Buckle up, buddy, ‘cause we’re going for a longggggg ride.

I have like, a bunch, a dozen, a lot of ideas about Nico passing away, and I might not have a coherent way to organize them all, so you might have to bear with my millacenous thoughts, then, just a head-up!

Why I love “If Nico dies” that much

Hades breaking rules of death for Nico because I’m nothing if a sucker for parental love, really.

A list of post about psychopomp Nico. Basically Nico nearly died only for Hades to make him an immortal psychopomp. Now he collects souls, travels the world and haunts people.

My most obsessing fantasy is the shadows blossoms and reaches out to Nico. Just. A blob of darkness suddenly covers the sky and he dazedly looks at it. Something’s calling for him from the dark. Nico extends a hand. The first fingertip touches the lingering darkness and he’s. just. gone. The shadows hug him tight, embracing him in an eternal slumber. Cold. Numb. No feeling, no pain, no suffering.

If Nico manages to die of old age like a normal person, Thanatos will greet Nico with a smile, “Your father is waiting, young Lord” and Nico would walk through the door of the palace with a glowing laurel wreath like a prince he is.

Hades sets up a whole coronation ceremony LMAO. Jk, he probably did it when Nico became the official Ambassador of Hades.

Makaria cheering “Baby brother!!!” while peppering kisses all over Nico’s face. She kinda takes permanent residence of Nico’s house in the Elysium and complains in their weekly afternoon tea parties that Nico spends too much time in their father’s palace.

Melinoe can legitimately bullies Nico now. So he makes a point of avoiding her and sticking close to Makaria everytime they have family dinner.

Nico’s near death trying to save Bob, and Zagreus tears down the Tartarus coming to his brother’s aid.

Bob’s happy because Nico stays in the Underworld much more frequent now. And they play Mythomagic together, yay!!!

When Nico dies, his power goes haywire. The shadows want to pull everything into demise to accompany their master. I have talked about this once but I lost that post so... ehehe ig??...

That post about Tartarus corrupting Nico and he begs Jason to kill him.

The most possible way, tho, would be him fading into the shadows due to over-exertion after transporting the Athena Pathenos. I had another post about this specific outcome. And ohhhh this is a painful ride.

Well technically Nico has and is still suffering from a lot of physical burdens, I honestly can’t fathom how tf he manages to stay alive but i glad he did. So now I’m fantasying he doesn’t.

This death of Nico would be tragic and glorious, yall, because it’s a sacrifice. Even though it’s not in the prophecy, huh.

It would be after the battle has died down, and Nico looks up at the clear sky sparkled with Imperial Gold, the ringing of Octavian’s death resounding sound and clear through his bones, drowning every other sound. He feels lightheaded. Someone is screaming. He can’t quite hear it. The sky turns grey. His vision turns monochromic. He feels sleepy.

He doesn’t feel anything when he falls to the ground. All of his senses are plunged into slumber.

And his body and soul dissolve into nothingness.

Hades would be the first one to come to his side - because he is the one who can feel Nico’s life force fade away the clearest. But there’s nothing stopping death, as the god can only manage to grab his son’s hand before the boy’s eyes close and the grass under them withers away just as fast as his body’s disappearing.

The next one is Hazel - sprinting and dropping down her knees on the ground at the other side, blood and tears on her face, a broken voice calling her brother’s name. She pays no mind to her father, instead grabbing Nico’s hands. But her hands go right through him. As if waving through a fog. Hazel watches it ripple and turn transparent. She can’t touch him. She cries harder. Black diamonds and onyx stones pop up around them, building up until it suddenly looks like a gemmed tomb.

Reyna appears next to Hazel. She understands right away what’s happening, but she can’t help panicking at the realization that Nico is truly disappearing for good. Her hands instinctively go to touch him, but they, too, can only feel thin air. Only Hades can touch Nico now.

Hazel is screaming at Hades, now. Rules be damned. She begs him to do something. Because Nico is dying. Because Nico shouldn’t be dying, that after all of this he just can’t be dying like this i can’t lose him too you’re the god of dead please please——

But all of those fall in deaf ears as Hades just blankly gazes at his son’s lifeless face, the lips now nearly grey, the dark circles under Nico’s shut eyes, the black hair slowly dissolving into nothingness. His two big hands clutch the smaller hand, wrapping them whole as if the god is, too, begging for Nico to wake up.

He can feel his son’s soul crumbling. He can’t feel Thanatos coming to reap it. And Hades, for once in his life, fears that he wouldn’t be able to see his son after all those years of having him running around in his kingdom.

The circle of dead grass keeps widening as shadows stretch out - from Nico or Hades, no one can tell - but Jason and Percy can feel the weight, sorrows and sadness, pure grief and pain, suffocating them the moment they step in the clearing. And they fail to take another step when their eyes catch the image of one unmoving body in Hades’ arms. Percy falls to his knees, digging his nails in the dirt as a silent scream tears his lungs apart. Jason watches the scene, hands balled into fists at his sides. And he wonders, what kind of evil game are the Fates playing on Nico di Angelo to give him such devastating ending?

Gosh this is so hard to write because i keep crying arghhhh.

Anyway, on to the aftermath.

- Nico’s body was gone. They have nothing to burn. Until Persephone and Hades appears with a black shroud and Nico’s stygian sword. Hestia lights the flame. The gods stay to watch, and Percy stands next to them until it burns out completely.

- Hestia comes to Underworld on Nico’s death day to share Hades’ grief.

- There’s a pomegranate tree next to the Hades cabin the following day after Nico’s funeral. Huge and lively, green leaves glinting in the morning dew and big red fruits forever fresh hiding in the foliage. It surrounds the wooden cabin, hugging it, magically alive as if a late wish to the lost boy. Forever waiting.

- Hades’ grief shakes the earth. His darkness cloaks New York City in nightfall for three weeks. Mortals wonder if the apocalypse’s coming. Apollo’s sun chariot barely makes a small night lamp. The gods want to tell Hades off, but the Underworld has been shut down from all entrance and Persephone knows that even Hades isn’t in a clear enough mind to control his powers.

I have so much for a grieving Hades but it’s kinda messy so we’ll just have to settle for this ^^^^ and the previous post I mentioned.

- Hazel. Gods, Hazel. She loses her only maternal relative. The one who pulled her away from the timelessness of Asphodel. The one who, technically, gave her a new life. Who loves her unconditionally and always places her on top of everything else. She’s alone. In a new world. Her father cannot acknowledge her existence lest she dies again.

If anyone, who grieves the most would definitely be Hazel. A pure family love.

She draws him every time she misses him, and all the walls in her room are stuffed with drawings of Nico. She puts some in the Pluto shrine, too, only for them to disappear the next day, taken by Hades, sometimes replaced by little gifts.

Hazel imagines they grow up together, a normal pair of brother and sister in the 21st century. She talks to those drawings. She tells Nico on the canvas about how she’s doing, what she learns about the new life, how Frank is treating her and Nico doesn’t have to worry. She asks herself “What would Nico do?” every time she feels troubled.

She wears his ring (Hades took it before it was gone with the body) on a necklace - because she can’t stand to retelling his story every time someone ask about such mismatching ring when she wears it next to her wedding band. She tells her children about their uncle, tho, little by little. About how he brought her back to life and gave her a new future. About how brave he was to give this world a future, too, and by extension, her children’s lives.

She tells them that the ghosts aren’t necessarily hostile, and the darkness isn’t that scary - because they befriended their uncle Nico, who was so full of love it hurts.

- Jason would be devastated because he lost two of his friends at the same time: Leo and Nico. One is his best friend, the other is one he feels responsible for as he inadvertently knew of his deepest secrets. Jason was made a leader. His hero-complex would definitely makes all deaths heavy on himself and if he starts doubting the gods then it’s his problem.

And Leo returns 5 months later, whereas Nico never shows up again.

Jason finds out that some of the minor gods actually know Nico, so he makes a habit of asking them about the boy and manages to collect a bunch of stories to tell Hazel and her children every time he swings by. He helps Frank cheer up Hazel when Nico’s death day comes every year.

He meets Hades during his journey through the Underworld, and he sees the same pain reflecting in the god’s eyes when he grits his teeth, ready to smite him with a spiteful “Why did he have to die only for you children of my brothers to be praised as heroes?!!”.

He was saved by Persephone who interjects with a firm “Nico wouldn’t want this”. Jason stays for a while, though, to tell Hades about what he learnt of an amazing Nico di Angelo. The god listens silently. His face’s tired and somber.

- Reyna praises Nico with all her heart. He’s forever a soldier in her heart. She calls him her brother because that’s who he is to her. She just gained a new family member and loses him in one journey oh gods. Does she blame herself? If only she could lend him more of her strength? But she knows Nico wouldn’t want that.

The Ambassador room that Nico used is kept in pristine condition because Reyna, even when it’s groundless and stupid, still holds a thin hope that Nico would one day appear in front of her, swaying sleepily and waving goodbye again. She builds a corner for him in the Pluto shrine: his Stygian sword displayed in the middle of all kinds of glowing jewelries, some of Hazel’s drawings tucked in between. Reyna goes there when she needs to think, sometimes sharing McDonald’s with Hazel and/ or Jason.

She calls his name when she has a panic attack over her father’s ghosts. It works, as if Nico’s still protecting him even from the nothingness.

Her Hunter of Artemis accessory has a small bone put into it. What kind? I have no idea but I like the concept so yall will have to get on with it.

- Percy. Hello guilts my old friend, i have come to talk with you again. Jeez I have no idea how Percy’s gonna cope with Nico’s death. He would probably blame himself. A lot. Like really. Everyone has regrets when it comes to one Nico di Angelo. That’s how his tragedies affect and haunt people, Percy is, without a doubt, the most severe.

He helps rearrange the funeral for Nico. It’s hard, because it was normally Nico who does this kind of thing. He only manages with the help of Annabeth. Percy has so much to say to Nico, yet he asks Hazel to do the speech because he doesn’t think he’s can utter anything about the child whose life has gone downhill partly of him.

He talks to Hestia more often.

He thinks he sees Nico’s ghost sometimes. That can’t be right though, because Hades once cursed at him, pain in his voice that Nico was forever gone from every corner of this earth.

Percy visits Hazel a lot, maybe he thinks that he can at least take care of Nico’s sister after disappointing his other sister and, unintentionally, contributing to his misery life. He finds Nico’s mythomagic cards and gives them to Hazel. Percy tells her about the young Nico. About how Nico had gone through so much because of him. About how despite all of those Nico still saved him countless times.

And he sits there, in the small living room, repeating sorrys over and over again whenever Hazel’s grief causes her to bite out a hateful blame.

I think this is probably it? I would probably come up with something sooner or later, but oh well I think this is enough for one post.

connor and nico were canonically friends when nico first got to camp and literally all i can think about rn is them rekindling their friendship after the war with gaea and once again becoming best friends.

imagine travis coming home from college for the summer and finding his little brother being buddy buddy with the little nerd he knew when he was like 14/15 years old. he asks nico if he's still into mythomagic, nico says no, and the stolls take it as a challenge to get him back into the card game.

connor does it pretty easily by saying "i bet you couldn't beat me in a match"

nico obviously knows he's baiting him into playing again, but takes the challenge anyways because he's stubborn like that

Would it be possible for you to help explain what instances in canon are autism coded? Buddy you’ve come to the right place.

I should probably start by mentioning that I don’t think Riordan intended to write Nico as autistic. If he had, he would have said it outright, just like he outright said that characters had ADHD and dyslexia. (And frankly if Riordan had intended to write him as autistic he probably wouldn’t have done a great job but that’s another conversation.) But I still think Nico is autistic. Like, I don't even headcanon it. That kid is 100% autistic. It's right there in the text.

Hyperfixations/Special Interests

This one is pretty clear: Nico had a very, very obvious Mythomagic special interest. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of Mythomagic. He still has encyclopedic knowledge about mythology because of his Mythomagic hyperfixation. He also mentioned that he had a pirate special interest at one point. However, it’s worth noting that people with ADHD also commonly have hyperfixations, so having a special interest doesn’t necessarily make you autistic. The key difference is that a special interest is part of the diagnostic criteria for autism (well...it can be—you can find the DSM-V criteria here if you want).

Another point towards special interests that’s a little less obvious and I’ve never heard anyone bring up is Nico’s special interest in certain people. I’ve read that it’s not unheard of for autistic people to latch on to a friend or romantic interest, like Nico did with his hero worship of Bianca and Percy. This is definitely something I’ve seen in myself, which is why I’m talking about it, but I don’t know how many other autistic people relate to this and I’ve never seen anyone talk about this before, so I could be alone in thinking this.

Touch

A lot of people say that Nico is touch averse and use that as evidence of his autism but I don’t know that I agree with that. First of all, autistic people tend to be hypersensitive but are variable with how they respond to touch. Some don’t like any touch, some only like light brushes, some like tight squeezes. Secondly, Nico isn’t touch averse. He has a complicated relationship with touch that’s very consistent with many autistic people. He loves touch when it’s with people he knows and trusts; it’s just people that he’s uncomfortable with that he doesn’t want to be touched by. He also seems to especially like hand contact: we’ve seen him initiate holding hands with Hazel and Will. We’ve also seen him hug at least Reyna and Jason (to my memory), and he enjoyed hugging Reyna and consented to hugging Jason, which probably means he liked that, too. To me, that suggests that he enjoys pressure when it comes to touch. He’d probably like stim things like a weighted blanket, too.

Stims

There might be others, but the one that comes to mind is twisting his ring. Playing with jewelry is a really common stim and Nico has been described twisting his ring around his finger consistently since he was introduced (or at least, since his ring was introduced...I don’t think he had the ring in TTC but correct me if I’m wrong).

Social Interaction

HOOOO BOY. I don’t even know where to start. This topic is so loaded with details that no matter what I’m going to come up short, so I’m just going to touch on a few topics.

Personally, I think that a lot of things Nico does that come across as rude are actually just Nico being autistic. For example, Nico corrects people fairly often or talks to them like they’re complete idiots (although in Apollo’s case, he probably does believe he’s a complete idiot) but I don’t think he’s trying to mansplain or show off how smart he is. I genuinely think he’s either just trying to be helpful or he’s excited about his special interest (mythology/mythomagic) and wants to infodump a little, but he also has severe rejection sensitive dysphoria (very common in people with ASD and ADHD) and he’s trying not to come on too strong, hence why he doesn’t immediately revert to 10-year-old Nico again.

Nico also often says things that just aren’t usually said in polite conversation, like “There’s an aura of death around you—a thick possibility of death” (THO) and people often find his tone and expression unnerving, meaning that it probably doesn’t quite match what’s typical for the situation. When Nico was first introduced, people found him annoying, and later, they find him creepy—both very common reactions to autistic people.

Also: Nico becomes friends with Hestia, Bob, and the Trogs. It’s common for autistic people to notice things that other people don’t notice or to build relationships with people that other people forget about. Autistic people might make friends with people older or younger than them more easily than with their peers, or with other neurodivergent people or people who are just a little different rather than with neurotypical people. They might also bond with animals more easily than with people or in some cases, they might even be able to read animals much better than neurotypical people can. (One often-cited example of someone like this in the real world is Temple Grandin, an autistic animal behavior scientist who’s helped make the lives and even deaths of livestock much more humane. Honestly, any time I think of Nico making friends with some long-forgotten deity, it reminds me of Temple Grandin and her cow super powers.) (Apologies if any of that came across as me likening people to animals, that was not my intention.)

Meltdowns/Temper

A lot of autistic people—myself and my brother included—tend to have meltdowns because we get overwhelmed by things easily, both in the sensory sense and the emotional sense. Nico is one of the angriest and most emotional characters in canon, and while anger/getting easily upset is not exclusive to autistic people, I still see it as a sign of autism in Nico because of 1) how much his anger stems from frustration and overload, 2) how he acts while he’s upset, and most importantly 3) all the other evidence of autism. You can see it at times when he lashes out and shouts, shadow travels or runs away, or loses control of his powers when he’s upset or overwhelmed. The clearest and most extreme example was probably with Bryce Lawrence, when Nico, already overwhelmed by exhaustion, just lost control of his anger. And the reason it’s the clearest example is because it’s actually from Nico’s perspective. You see him feeling tired and overwhelmed and angry and pushed to the brink, and you see the rumblings of the meltdown starting. That sort of disconnect from reality and loss of control is very similar to what I feel when I have meltdowns.

Obviously, everyone has a temper, a lot of Nico’s anger has to do with his backstory, and many other neurodivergent people also feel the specific kind of overload and frustration I’m talking about, but I still think this is worth talking about. However, I’ve never heard anyone talk about Nico’s temper or meltdowns in reference to autism before so I want to put out the disclaimer that this is just my opinion as someone who has a lot of overload and meltdowns and I don't know if me saying this is controversial or anything. I see a lot of myself in him, but maybe other autistic people don’t have the same experience. This is one of those things you have to be careful when talking about because a lot of people are very infantilizing when discussing meltdowns or make jokes about autistic meltdowns, so again—apologies if I’m off base here at all.

So! IN CONCLUSION, I realize that individually, none of these things make someone autistic. Reyna also has the habit of twisting her ring and Percy has a temper, but I don’t think they’re autistic (although I will 100% support autistic headcanons, as I’m always on team autism). All these things added together, though? I refuse to believe Nico’s not autistic. Plus, it’s just important to me on a personal level.

here are some of my Nico headcanons that nobody asked for!!

He collects things. Not just Mythomagic stuff like he did as a kid, but cool shells, and rocks, and weird glass figurines that everyone else thinks are terrifying, and books. He’s got them in jars or lined up on shelves and he just has so many things (Because for so long he had so few things that actually belonged to him that didn’t have to serve a very clear purpose, so now he just wants to keep whatever he’d like)

He reads SO much as an adult. A lot of it is nonfiction because he’s trying to catch up on what happened in the world while he was pulled out of it, but a lot of fiction too (not really fantasy though, that’s too close to home) and a lot of poetry. He can recite poems from memory and will just randomly quote them sometimes and it should be pretentious but it isn’t and his friends think it’s amazing (cue dramatically saying "till love and fame to nothingness do sink" anytime he's told he has to wait) (Also, he will rant about why Ted Hughes sucks at any point in time)

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again!! He is a Dungeon Master! He’s got a binder for all the notes for his current campaign and a notebook for ideas and special highlighters and pens that he only uses for D&D. Also, dice are definitely one of the things he collects and he keeps them in those clear, plastic bead containers with dividers and they’re sorted by number of faces and also ~vibes~ (for example, do a backflip D20 and life or death D20)

leather jacket Nico di Angelo? seen, respected, and appreciated. CARDIGAN Nico di Angelo? underrated! He has a couple oversized cardigans with buttons and big pockets that he adores. The first one he ever had he definitely stole from Will but now, whenever he comes across another similar one, he buys it. The pockets are filled with rocks and worn, mass-market paperbacks and pens. (Basically, I’m leaning hard into English Major Nico with his annotated books and glasses and cardigans) (Also, cardigan Nico and flannel Will but sometimes they swap)

He definitely cuts his own hair in the bathroom and he's gotten very good at it. He's had a range of haircuts, from long hair to a mullet to the shaved sides and fluffy top, but he always ends up back with a shaggy mop that Hazel likes to put little braids in (or sometimes pull the very back of it into two little pigtails) and with bangs that always end up in his eyes.

Sorry to reiterate the same point that's been made forever, but his wardrobe is pretty dark-toned. Obviously black, but he does like a good jewel tone, perhaps a maroon or an emerald. Anything really bright was either a gift or belongs to Will someone else. Also, gendered clothing means nothing to him. He wears what he wants to wear and he thinks it's cool as hell when he's wearing a skirt while sparring and it flares out dramatically as he twirls.

He's kind of picked up modern slang but he also uses a lot of slang from pretty much every decade he missed. It's also a 50/50 chance he's using it incorrectly. (examples include: 1) Leo says something that is definitely supposed to be funny and Nico stares at him, utterly emotionless, and says "Gag me with a spoon" in an alarmingly monotone voice, and 2) Anytime he says something snarky to Jason or Percy he starts it with "hey bestie..." and honestly, they're both just touched Nico called them "bestie" at all)

He adores Studio Ghibli movies and can be found humming the Ponyo theme song anytime he goes swimming (Will standing on the shore, looking around for Nico and he eventually spots him in the water. He wades out to Nico, all sunglasses that shouldn't look so cool and golden hair and chest, and just greets him with "Hey there, Neeks, how's my fishie in the sea?" and Nico can't decide if he wants to drown himself or kiss Will on his stupid mouth)

Speaking of movies, shortly after the Giant War, all of his friends (the Seven, Reyna, Will, probably Lou Ellen and Cecil, too) showed up at his cabin with blankets and snacks. They each brought their favorite movie or movies they think he needs to see to catch him up on the modern age. At first, he acts disgruntled that they're all there but he very quickly settles into the blanket fort Annabeth constructs and is quietly very grateful and excited that they cared enough to do this for him. They're all holed up in his cabin for a full day until they've finished every movie. (Percy brought Finding Nemo, Annabeth brought Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Piper brought Scott Pilgrim vs The World, Jason brought Captain America: The First Avenger (and Nico definitely says "that's gay" when Steve and Bucky say there "Until the end of the line" shit and everybody absolutely loses their minds), Hazel also is behind on movies but she brought either a very scary movie or Moana, Frank brought A New Hope (though he considered Brother Bear), Will brought Spirited Away, Cecil brought Back to the Future, and Lou Ellen brought The Princess Bride)

He can play the piano! He gets a piano for the Hades cabin and on nights where he can't sleep and the nightmares are really bad, he plays piano.

He will cry if he hears I Will by Mitski or Wasteland, Baby by Hozier, for different reasons but also kind of not (he wants to be loved)

Also, Nico and Dionysus being buddies! Nico jokingly says he'll host a bacchanal if Dionysus excuses him from certain camp activities and that's how Nico and friends end up wearing togas around a campfire, all very hesitantly holding cups of wine they aren't actually going to drink. It is definitely not a bacchanal, it's just a bad toga party (barely) but Dionysus accepts it and decides Nico is a Good One.

(Yes I did very badly make this stupid meme that somebody has definitely made a variation of before)

Give us a Solangeo backstory on how they started dating

Show us when Will started noticing Nico and when he started crushing on him

Will getting flustered anytime Nico walks into the infirmary

Nico calling up one of the *surviving* 7 and being like "Will is being nice to me. I don't know what's going on?"

Nico saying that they're no help when they give him solid advice and instead summons a tired and done Jason from the dead and asks for his advice instead

The Apollo cabin wondering when Will's gonna get the courage to ask out Nico

Will, smiling: Hello, Nico!! Nico, internally: screaming and overjoyed. Nico, externally: what do you want?

Nico and Percy having an open and honest conversation about the "you're not my type" admission and them actually getting past it without any awkwardness and them being friends without it being weird

Friendships that would have been awesome if Rick had mentioned it at lest once

Piper and Percy: I think their friendship wilould be the cutest. Piper getting her Dad to advertise Sally's novels. Piper and Percy teaming up with Leo to prank the Stoll's, singing together in the campfire, trying dresses together, and Piper charmspeaking Percy to sleep without nightmares.

Annabeth and Leo: Building buddies, sharing run away stories, and taking care of each other while working on a project.

Hazel and Rachel: Drawing duo, Rachel (with her father's wealth) shows Hazel around the 21st century, relating blackouts of Hazel's of the past and Rachel's of the future.

Katie, Calypso, and Meg: Calypso and Meg relating about horrible fathers forcing them onto their side. Katie and Calypso teaching Meg about different plants and which ones she can use to fight with. Meg and Katie teaching Calypso how to fight.

Leo and Percy: Their friendship would be amazing, Percy inviting Leo over to play Mario Kart and Sally falling in love with Leo five minutes after he arrives, and treats him just like her own. Paul laughing at Leo's jokes, making Leo feel loved. Leo making Estelle a Valdezinator.

Frank and Nico: They would be talking about the loss and Hazel together, Frank being a big brother to Nico, both of them playing Mythomagic together.

He would somehow end up in a TON of groupchats, he would never EVER be active in them but when he is the chat either died quickly or it lights up

Will questions why Nico wants to take selfies
