Broke: Acknowledging that a character who is an objectively terrible person is also a complex and intentionally well thought out individual with different levels of nuance you can empathize with in some ways while not in others is immediately “woobifying” or “poor little meow meowifying” them.
Woke: “This character is a bad person” and “this character is still a person” are two statements that can, should and do coexist and admitting that they exhibit nuance and depth and are more than just their bad actions doesn’t immediately excuse or condone their bad actions or mean that you’re ignoring or trying to soften the canonical version of the character.
Bespoke: That’s the whole point, that’s always been the point, to be made to empathize with horrible people so you can understand that they can be anyone, that bad people can be likeable, can be interesting, can be human, are human, and it’s scary to think about all the ways they’re just like you and all the ways they’re just like everything you hate, forcing the use of critical skills in media analysis, forcing a confrontation of the duality of man.
Whatever Level is Above Bespoke: But sometimes, yeah, sure, maybe they are a poor little meow meow, what are you gonna do, get a lawyer

Killer goes stage 3 when Nightmare isn't around, so the boys have to contain and calm him down themselves. Luckily they know what they're doing and make a good team, so nobody gets hurt.
And, because I can't make anything serious, bonus from the next day:

It really should be acknowledged, in one way or another, that Amy saved Shadow's life.
Not Sonic. Not Rouge. Their contributions later cannot be understated, but in a pivotal moment where it can be argued it counted most, Amy was the one to save Shadow's life by asking them to give everyone a chance.
By extension, she was asking Shadow to give themselves a chance.
And Shadow took it.

my one pet peeve of the hunger games fandom is the fans that have negative things to say about lucy grays accent. as a girl who grew up in a holler in the appalachian mountains- i hate y’all’s comments on her accent. growing up, i hated my accent. i did everything i could to not sound like a ‘hillbilly’. i was embarrassed by it, i believed it made me sound unintelligent. i took in what the media said about my accent and my people and i internalized that to the point where i hated my culture and wanted to distance myself as much as possible.
lucy gray’s accent is my accent and it feels so great to see a character sound like that and not be the stupid, hick character. appalachian people are not a bunch of inbred, stupid people.
i love lucy gray. i love her voice and her accent and her sayings. and personally, i think rachel zegler did a great job. I haven’t seen a single person from my area who thinks otherwise.
i know it sounds trivial and stupid, but for me and other little appalachian girls it does matter.

chan and ruon-jian are such good characters because they’re literally just these privileged teenagers living in the imperial core, summering in their beach houses, sheltered from the realities of the atrocities being committed by their own fathers. they know that their fathers are a big deal due to their military rank, but they are disturbed and off-put by even the most distant allusion to the realities of the war because they can only imagine the war in abstract terms of prestige and glory. they are two dimensional caricatures of the popular jock archetype—a white, suburban, american construction. they are completely hollow characters, lacking any substance beyond what they materially represent to azula and zuko. and isn’t that just so apt?

The sequel could've been about their dynamic and exploring their new lives but nooo we had to get the "look at how many things we own" disguised as a movie

Hi! I would love to hear you elaborate on what you dislike about Hotel Transylvania; what do you mean by calling the characters "toothless"?
When it comes to depictions of vampires in media (especially child-friendly ones) what problems do you have with it that can't be excused by being a kid-friendly adaption?
I'm going to make my answer visual.
Example 1 - A children's film about friendly monsters with teeth:
youtube
Example 2 - Hotel Transylvania:
youtube
One of these movies is comfortable with its scary monster protagonist, knowing it can make them lovable AND scary.
Tumblr media
The other is Hotel Transylvania.
Tumblr media
Like, I don't feel I need to say with words what pictures say on their own. One of these movies wasn't afraid to make the main character scary.
Tumblr media
And the other was deathly afraid that audiences would forget their main character was played by a sleepwalking Adam Sandler.

Thinking about his dark materials and the part where they find that one child who's lost his daemon and all he's got is a piece of dried fish he's clinging to and nobody really cares for him or remember him, and when they find him nobody even wants to touch him because he has no daemon but that's a child!! A child missing a part of his soul!!! A part of his soul was cut off and all he has is a piece of fish and nobody wants to touch him and then he dies!! And then they try to take the piece of fish away from him, the piece of fish he's holding onto as some resemblances of his soul!!!
10 year old me read that and something fundamentally changed within me I think about him all the time
