Ok I think I finally understand myself.

Totally attracted to guys, but, like, mostly in a gay way. I'm not attracted to girls, but if I was I would also date them in a gay way. Nonbinary? Yes, but, again, in a gay way. The jury is still out for trans but idk I think also yes???

here’s my brutally honest list of sexuality hcs for the characters in ted lasso. if someone isn’t listed, i don’t really feel strongly enough about their sexuality, or their sexuality is explored in canon. disclaimer: i think all of these characters can be hc’ed in a million different ways, but this is me being as honest as possible with what i think works best in congruence with the canon (i also love to say no one in the show is straight, but statistically speaking, there will probably be straight people)

Ted: straight ally (has experimented before and decided it’s not for him, but is also not entirely opposed to dating a man if something changes in the future)

Rebecca: bisexual (heavily male-leaning; hasn’t ever been with a woman before and probably never will, but has some feelings here and there)

Roy: straight ally (hasn’t ever tried anything, might try it once just to see, but not into men; i can see him dating an afab nonbinary person but then breaking up with them cause he realizes the relationship is invalidating and they deserve better)

Jamie: bisexual (might take some time for him to actually date a guy, but has definitely slept with guys before; his crushes on both Keeley and Roy are so real)

Sam: pansexual (sapiosexual lol; just wants someone sappy that he can have deep conversations with, doesn’t matter their gender; i also think he might be on the ace spectrum, in the “doesn’t really go looking for sex, but loves pleasing his partner” kinda way)

Isaac: straight ally (will go to gay clubs with colin and has no clue how to react when men hit on him; has some mild homophobia that he’s trying very hard to work through; listens to audiobooks about supporting your gay friends)

Richard: bisexual (french)

Barbara: lesbian (i can’t remember if she ever mentioned a boyfriend or husband or anything like that, but she’s so clearly into jack and probably has a crush on keeley)

Beard: pansexual (had a crush on ted early in their friendship that he’s gotten over; his backstory is truly wild and i don’t think someone with a life like that cares about gender; i don’t think he’s fully cis either)

Dani: straight ally (his reaction during colin’s coming out scene gave me huge vibes of someone who is maybe a little uncomfortable with talking about gay stuff but is also trying very hard not to seem uncomfortable talking about gay stuff)

Jan: queer (i know they say “he’s not rude, he’s dutch” but let’s be real, he’s autistic, and i think he’s the type that his experience of sexuality is very different from allistic people; mostly sticks with women cause it’s more socially acceptable, but definitely not opposed to being with others)

Nathan: pansexual (heavily female leaning; probably doesn’t realize he’s pan because he just assumes everyone is attracted to everyone and just chooses to date the more socially acceptable gender; too shy to ever hook up with a guy)

my hot take is that if they were gonna genderbend a character to be non-binary in the good omens show, it should’ve been newt. first of all, we need human non-binary characters so cmon. secondly, their name is already non-binary as fuck, trans ppl love amphibians.

they work as nonbinary transmasc or transfem, and i think you could get some funny gags out of shadwell being unfazed by transness once newt proves they’re not a witch. there’s room for a joke about the stereotype of trans women being computer scientists. anathema has such queer vibes it would make sense to make newt queer too. i think it would be funny to have a canonically non-binary character who’s just a bit of a loser and still gets the girl, and it would’ve played better to a modern audience than with a cis guy (i’ve seen a lot of ppl complain about their relationship both in the book and show and even though i personally like newt i get it.) anyways, this concludes my propaganda for trans newt, thanks for coming to my ted talk

We got a super Thursday this year bigger than any of the super Saturdays lol. So much happened! I needed some time to gather my thoughts

First of all, I love that we have another nonbinary artist this year! Musically The Code reminds me of Jann in Emperor's New Clothes. I like how dynamic the song is, the opera merged with other genres (which I'm always a sucker for) and on top of that, the message!! The only thing is I always cringe at the line with ammonites... Can't have everything. This will be high in my ranking for sure. The question remains, will they be able to pull those notes live?

UK... I believed until the end, even after those snippets. The huge names (Olly and Danny) only raised the expectations. This is incredibly monotonous and lacks any climax. In a weaker year it could place like 10th in my ranking, not this time. A lot of wasted potential here :/ I still have hope for a redeeming staging since I've seen what Olly's capable of at the Brit Awards in 2021.

Not a crazy fan of We Will Rave. Everywhere around me I keep hearing oohs and aahs and because of that I just can't warm up to that song. Somehow I strongly feel about what staging would fit and which would break that song for me. Based on Kaleen's vibes I think she will go for the latter, sadly.

Cyprus scores surprisingly high this year in my ranking, considering what kind of song this is. Usually I stay indifferent towards upbeat girl pop. Idc what happened this time, I like the melodies and Silia's positive energy in the mv is just contagious.

And last but not least, my one of a kind funky Dutch man 🥹 I am absolutely in love with everything he does. While watching the premiere I immediately spotted that Europapa doesn't go as hard as his other songs, which I did expect. (Ok, the exception is that gabber(?) moment.) I get he might have done this to appeal to the wider audience but somehow it still feels very authentic to him as an artist and that is what counts in the end. The first part immediately brings to mind Samaa taviasta katsotaan, even Poland got mentioned. Maybe I shouldn't be comparing so much but I swear those are all compliments. I love both Emperor's New Clothes and Samaa...

The "Europe without borders" message speaks to me on a very personal level. It awakened the Europatriotic side of me, which I feel I might have unconsciously shut down some time ago due to the worsening political situation (both in Poland and throughout Europe) and people writing that view off as idealistic and naive. Idk whether I'm interpreting it right, but especially the picture of the burning cluster of buildings(?) as a symbol of the current political (but also environmental!!) situation on the continent hit me hard.

Generally, I find it insane how a Dutch rapper makes me feel more towards the place I live in than an entire lifetime that I spent learning about Polish history, martyrdom and a predefined meaning of what it means to be a "good patriotic Pole" being imposed on me by people whose national identity was shaped long before we entered the EU. I think that's a generational divide, but the worst thing is that those people are more and more power-hungry and not willing to give up that power when the time comes. Right now they are only reinforcing their positions and digging divides deeper than ever to control the nation

So yes, I am crying but not because of the dad situation (I sympathize wholeheartedly but can't relate) but rather my very personal relation to patriotism and the mill of thoughts Joost kickstarted in my head. This song awakes some deep deposits of feelings I was only partially aware I had, expect more thinking out loud in text on here.

yusuke - yusuke. genuine answer though. transmasc purely because of the hoodie he wears at the beach. this is what started it in my mind but i think he is so trans. i think madarame lets him go on t which yusuke is very grateful for but deeply conflicted about after The Reveal. i was going to write something about this but my attention span is bad so i gave up

makoto - honestly i rag on her a decent bit but i read something w/ nonbinary makoto once and went “yeah okay this makes sense i think”. so thank you mysterious fic writer who i forgot about. the perfect good girl shtick could be some sort of repression considering who her family is

Also I think Eve's dad left them when she was very small - she remembers him at Christmas when she was a tiny, but not much after that- and I think that just adds to her anger at Ted because she wasn't going to let that happen to Brendan the way it happened to her and it did anyway and she got blindsided by it. (Ted actually made an effort to try and stay in touch with Brendan; Eve's dad never made an effort to try and stay in touch with her - or if he did, it was an effort that shrank and shrank, with times between seeing him being longer and longer, until by the time she was sixteen, he was gone.)

Either that, or he's dead, but I'm getting strong abandonment vibes.

Agatha never knew her dad, and we don't hate Evanora this AU. Evanora actually tried very hard. The "I can be good" "No, you cannot" still exists, but the context is wildly different, and Evanora was saying it in a way meant to save Agatha from her own...etc.

There's a lot of Agatha backstory that just has not come up yet, and idk if/when it will, but there is just so much, y'all. (And because idk if/when it will come up, I don't really want to post much about it here.)

Cian's parents did not kick them out when they came out as nonbinary (likely in part because it might have happened shortly before or after they'd joined their ballet company), but Cian broke contact with them.

Cian's parents refuse to acknowledge them as they/them and constantly misgender them, as well as continuing to believe that one day they will find a good spouse who will break them of their silly ideations. They like Agatha well enough, but they never took Cian and Agatha's relationship seriously, thinking it was just a phase that would pass.

Part of this likely DOES have to do with the AIDS crisis (Cian joined their ballet company on roughly 1986, so right in the midst of all of that) - looking at something termed "the gay disease" that was killing so many people like Cian, it only makes sense that their parents would have wanted them to stop. They might have seen it as saving them, as trying to help.

I do not have bad feelings towards Cian's parents, and Cian doesn't either, not really. It was just a relationship that was hard for them to maintain, and so they didn't.

Cian's parents were around for their first battle with cancer. Their mom wanted them to get breast reconstruction surgery after their double mastectomy, but Cian refused, and their mom couldn't understand that. Nor could their parents understand why they wanted to remain bald even after they'd gotten better and their cancer was in remission.

Cian's parents wanted to be around during their final battle with cancer, when it came back, and Agatha wanted them around, too, but Cian...kept them at a distance. They were dying. They knew they were dying. And they didn't want their final months, weeks, days, hours spent with people who couldn't see them as they were.

Agatha talked with them a lot - with Cian's mother, specifically - and kept them updated. Against Cian's wishes, she set up a time for them to meet (which roughly parallels what Cian did for Agatha and Evanora), and Cian's mom apologized. It'd been...thirty years of off-screen growing since they found out, and while Cian's dad was still quiet and unsure, their mom at least understood that they should have supported them instead of what they did. She got it.

So there's at least some catharsis there. Cian definitely shot Agatha looks of how dare you but also grateful because, as Agatha said, she would have wanted to know, if it had been her and Evanora.

But that was still the last time Cian saw their parents, and it doesn't make up for the thirty years of misteps and etc.

Butch Cassidy, Mark [Speed Buggy], and Ted [Goober And The Ghost Chasers] for the Character Opinion Bingo?

I don't have a proper bingo sheet for Mark since none of the options on there really fit my opinion of him, so I'll talk about him here first and then do Butch and Ted with their bingo sheets under the cut.

I do like Mark well enough. I think he fits the role of the Responsible One in the Speed Buggs dynamic well (without it being the only thing he does, I remember a least a couple jokes involving him), and I do like him in "The Weird Winds of Winona". (In particular, I'm thinking about the scene where Shaggy thinks he's being attacked by the mannequin and Mark is the one who tries to call out to him/is the one who "catches" the mannequin.) He also gets some memorability points for being one of the few characters amongst the Mystery Teens to have dark skin (at least in "The Weird Winds of Winona" anyway), so he stands out physically.

But, I overall don't really have that strong of feelings about him, and I'd say that I like Tinker and Debbie a little bit more as characters than him. This might change as I watch more Speed Buggy, but so far that's the feel I've gotten from him. I like Mark just fine, but I don't have much to say about him beyond that.

Moving onto Butch and Ted next (who I do have stronger feelings on since they're from my two favorite Mystery Teen shows).

Butch:

"My every waking thought"/Keysmash: Butch is a character I think about a lot and just generally really like. He's a character I have strongly-felt headcanons for and just generally like to analyze, too. Since he's a character from a 13-episode Hanna Barbera show he's not exactly fleshed-out per say, but I like that he has consistent and interesting enough traits that I can work with in that regard.

"They have done nothing wrong, ever": This one is in reference to the fact that he's a government spy. While most of the time this doesn't factor in too much, other times there are scenes where Butch only saves a guy from drowning because the government hadn't got to interrogate him yet. Butch may be a government pawn but I still care him. <3

"Not be nonbinary but-": I've mentioned it before but Butch has my favorite design of all the Mystery Teens. I like his swoopy hair, the necktie, the bell bottom pants, the whole 1970s Teen Idol look. The "pretty but masculine" vibe he gives off is very Gender Envy if you will.

Ted:

"My every waking thought"/Keysmash: Ted is another character I think about a lot and have strongly-felt headcanons for. Admittedly, a good amount of this is centered around his relationship with the other characters in his show as opposed to just him by himself, but still, I do think about him a lot.

I like how he's a character that is the Responsible One of his group but not written as a stick-in-the-mud; he clearly is as interested in ghosts as the rest of the characters are, and there are hints of other hobbies he could have hidden in the show too (like his interest in technology that I've mentioned before). I also like his design too, with the matching purple jacket-and-pants and his of-the-time haircut. I just think he's neat.

*gently holds*/"I want to kiss their poor little head": This is in reference to how expressive he can get in the show (I think mainly because of his thicker eyebrows), especially when he's upset/sad. A lot of the times when he's sad it looks like he's about to start crying and it makes me feel bad for him.

This is also in reference to how Ted is still just a teenager and how sometimes I wonder if he's putting too much pressure on himself being the Responsible One and all (kinda like how I feel about Butch I suppose). Sure, he has a job and a car and stuff, but he's still like, only 16 or 17 years old. I just want him to relax and have fun chasing ghosts.
