Really depends on what I'm writing, though overall I'd say Norwegian. There are some things that are better or easier said in English though, so sometimes I code-switch.

As for European evaluation scale, I'm assuming you mean the CEFR? My level is C2. I am able to express myself spontaneously and precisely, differentiate nuances, summarise complex information and understand virtually everything I read or hear.

Je vous ferai une example - j'ai passé mon DALF C1 en français, tant que je suis loin de courant. Si je serais moins qu'un C2 en anglais, je serais au même niveau qu'en français, c'est-à-dire, je ne serais pas capable d'écrire ni des fanfics ni des metas. J'écris cette partie en français pour démontrer que je peux m'exprimer en français (tellement que les gens me comprennent) mais personne ne me considérait courant.

Some information about me:

. My pronouns are he/him. I'm trans and queer.

. I'm 21 years old

. I'm Irish/French-Canadian, from Quebec. French is my native language.

. I'm aspiring to become a librarian.

. I'm interested in both languages and linguistics.

Language information:

. FRENCH: As mentioned above, French is my native language. I specifically speak with a Southwestern Quebec dialect. My interest in French as a language in Quebec falls through the lens of linguistics, seeing how it developed with the influence of French minority languages such as Gallo and Poitevin-Saintongeais. I'm also interested in the history of la Francophonie of North America as a whole.

. ENGLISH: I consider myself to be in the C1 to C2 range for English. I've been speaking it since I was three years old and never made the conscious effort of learning it, and therefore see it as a second native language

. IRISH: I've been actively learning Irish for about a year at this point and fall somewhere in the A2 range. It's currently my main focus and a way for me to reconnect to my Irish heritage. I have a bias towards the Connacht Dialect, but haven't chained myself down to it yet

. GREEK: At the moment, Greek is my secondary focus. I do not spend much time on it, and am only keeping it active so that when I reach a higher level in Irish, I already have a base in this one

. OTHER: I dabbled in Italian as a teenager, but lost most of it, though I can still read it. My next language will either be ( Colombian ) Spanish or Aln8ba8dwaw8gan, depending on my situation in the next few years, and I hope to eventually be able to learn Turkish from Greek. I'm also interested in many other languages, including, but not limited to Tagalog, Catalan, ( Levantine ) Arabic, Icelandic, Norwegian, Breton and Punjabi

Introduction

Hi there!

I'm new to Tumblr, so we'll see how well everything goes here...

My name is Pema and my pronouns are they/them. I'm from Sweden, but I speak five different languages, but definitely not all of them equally well.

I speak:

Swedish (native)

English (C2)

Norwegian (Nynorsk & Jærsk) (~B2)

Jamaican Patois (B1)

Sranantongo (A2~)

I'm also learning Tibetan and Japanese, but I've put them on hold for a while.

My favourite things to do are writing and reading all kinds of literature, but I mainly write poetry, playing and writing (mainly classical) music, playing videogames and looking at art. I sometimes draw abstract art myself, as you can see on my profile picture, so I'm open to any kind of style in all art forms!

My favourite video games are Syberia, Jade Empire, the Legend of Zelda series, the Pokémon series and the Mario games.

I'll mainly use this platform to share my art and writing, but probably also to discuss games and practice all of my languages.

I'm very glad to be here and I hope you all enjoy what I post! Feel free to ask me anything and to give comments on what I post; everything except for hate is encouraged here!

Week 1 | Day 1 | Langblr Reactivation Challenge

Hi everyone!

My name is Rosa, and my first language is Finnish. My target languages (and my current levels in them) are English (C2), Spanish (B2-C1), Swedish (B2), French (A2-B1), Mandarin Chinese (A1-A2), and Korean (A1). In the future, I’d also like to learn some Italian, Polish, and German. I’ve tried picking up Norwegian and Ancient Greek, but I didn’t get very far with either of them.

The reason for why I’ve decided to join this challenge is that I want to be more active here in the langblr community and I want to have more motivation to continue learning. I’d also like to get to know more language learners here on tumblr! 😊

Opening Up, Step by Step

Natasha hadn’t expected Thor to do so well on this mission; nor did she expect a bit of interrogation while they danced.

This is a fill for my @avengersbingo C2 - Soft Under Hard Exterior trope square, as well as @fictober-event Day 25. "You know I'd do anything." and @flufftober Day 25. First Dance

Natasha had initially resisted having Thor come along on this mission; but she had to admit he was doing surprisingly well. It helped that the event was held at the Norwegian embassy; he blended into their cohort quite well. His friendly manner put people at ease and his Allspeak power let him eavesdrop easily on conversations that the speakers assumed would be more secure.

That said, Natasha did not expect Thor to ask her to dance. “You know I’d do anything to help keep my adopted home safe,” he explained as he led her into a fox trot, “so I asked our teammates to teach me, just in case it would be required.”

“And it seems you are a quick learner.” Natasha took advantage of the time together to review their strategy for the rest of the evening. As the music slowed and changed tempo to a waltz, she expected they would find other partners, but Thor seemed reluctant to part.

“You told my brother that love was for children,” he murmured as they moved to the music. “Do you truly believe that?”

“I can’t afford not to,” she answered tartly.

“I suppose you know of my first visit to Midgard,” he continued after a moment of silence, “I had been stripped of my powers and sent to a world I knew nothing about. It was terrifying to depend on the kindness of strangers, as a child would. However, by doing so, I found love, as well as friends whom I truly treasure.”

“I’m glad that worked for you,” Natasha replied, a little stiffly.

“If there’s one thing I’ve learned in all my travels,” Thor added, “Love is all about letting someone see your true self.”

She looked into his eyes, the only part of him that seemed to show his actual age. “And what if you’re not sure who that is anymore?”

“Then you find the child within you,” Thor smiled softly, “and ask her who she wishes to be.”

New Year, New Project:

And I am definitely not making this post at midnight, while playing Genshin Impact.

aNyways here's some info about me and this blog!

Who I am:

The name's Valor, and I go by they/them pronouns

I'm from Europe (mainly). More specific than that and it gets... complicated. Especially when it comes to languages. (I am part latino, technically, but I don't really care much for that side of me? so. yeah. european.)

I'm a teen with a burning passion for learning and a burning hatred for school

Diagnosed with ADHD in 2022 😎

Apart from learning languages, I also enjoy reading, voice acting, art and listening to music

I'm also a little obsessed with Genshin Impact right now. Just a little. You might see me messing with the languages there.

My languages:

🇺🇸 English: Native (sort of). Recently did the C1 test and I got a C2 grade. My main language, especially online. Not much to say tbh.

🇪🇸 Spanish: Native. Haven't done a test for it though, unlike English. Might in the distant future, but I don't really see a need to.

🇳🇴 Norwegian: A2-B1 I'd say? The main language I'm learning. I'm studying bokmål Norwegian, so that's how I write, but speaking is a mixture of bokmål and whatever form of nynorsk that my family speaks.

🇯🇵 Japanese: A0. I can read kana, for the most part. Barely understand any Kanji. I'm hoping to advance my level this year, though I gotta make a plan for how I'm gonna study Japanese. I don't know how to study.

Other languages: I'm not really trying to dive into any other languages right now. I'm a high school student, and my plate is already full as it is. I can understand a bit of French, since I studied it in school for 3 years. If I were to study another language, I'd... honestly struggle choosing which one. There's too many that seem so interesting to learn.

The blog:

I don't really have much experience in langblr. I follow a few langblrs, but that's it. So I don't really know what to post. Don't expect consistency from me.

I might post some multilingual shenanigans of mine, like voice acting in other languages I guess? Or that one time I decided to sing "We Don't Talk About Bruno", but each character was a different language. Random stuff like that.

I was also considering doing a weekly or monthly recap of what I've done for Norwegian and Japanese, just to see my progress. Also a plan of what to study, otherwise I'm running around like a headless chicken.

This is all hypothetical. I'll probably update this in the future, depending on how this blog goes. Who knows?

Anyways, with that out of the way (and considering how late it is for me right now), that's that for this introductory post. I'm not really sure how to end this, so...

NATO conducts exercises in Norway with the air forces of Sweden and Finland

According to information published by NATO on June 3, 2022, the Royal Norwegian Air Force is for the first time leading an advanced cooperative exercise with NATO and partner nations Sweden and Finland.

The multi-domain surveillance activity with about 130 participants, led by Norway, focused on the integration of the command and control of the Joint Forces in the North of the SACEUR Area of Responsibility.

Exercising NATO's ability to project credible combat air power within reach, the activity involved approximately 50 aircraft, including fighters, tankers, ISR, AWACS and C-130 Hercules from the allied nations France, Germany, Norway and the United Kingdom, as well as Partner nations, Finland and Sweden. Many of the aircraft flew from base sites, allowing air-to-air refueling training for the allied crew.

During the surveillance activity, participants simulated live joint shots, practiced Command and Tactical Control (C2) and operated in an environment contested with threats of Electronic Warfare (EW). U.S. maritime vessels and ground missile launchers have been prepared and deployed to enable advanced training scenarios.

The Saab JAS 39 Gripen is a single-engine multifunctional light fighter manufactured by the Swedish aerospace and defense company Saab, designed as a lightweight and agile aerial platform with advanced and highly adaptable avionics.

Language Learning Log 2022 Week Forty-Two (24/10 - 30/10)

Banner photo: While in Norway, I went out into Nordmarka on a foggy day. It was so much fun (although a little frightening when the fog started to set in thick and I hadn’t seen any signs or a single other soul for a while) and I felt like I was truly embracing Norwegian culture!

Well... I did it. I went to Norway for the fourth time, I took the spoken Bergenstest exam and I got C1. I’m still reeling a bit from that. It was truly one of those in my wildest dreams experiences. I long ago dismissed the idea of ever reaching C1 and told myself the goal wasn’t necessarily to sound like a native speaker. And yet I got C1 on my exam, and the examiners were so impressed with my performance that they seemed genuinely astonished that I’d never lived in Norway. I just figured I’m not that smart, I’m not like other language learners, I don’t have a knack for languages.

I stand by that, really. I have an advantage that many monolingual English speakers don’t have in that I started learning French at a young age and I’m really interested in linguistics, so learning grammar isn’t so foreign to me as it is to some people. Norwegian is very similar to English in a lot of ways. I think the only reason I’ve got to this level is that I’m so passionate about it. I love Norwegian. I love Norway. I think I could continue to study this language forever. That’s my story, that’s my journey. Learning this language was important to me and I love doing it. I don’t think I’ll ever get to this level in any other language. And honestly, I don’t really care.

So, what’s the goal now? Well, C2, I guess. But now more than ever I feel like it’s not about the goal but the journey. I want to keep finding new ways to express myself and new words and phrases to give my language variety. If I eventually speak it with near the same confidence and ease as a native speaker, awesome. If not, then as long as I have material to engage with, I don’t really care.

god, those english proficiency exams are so elitist

my professor sent us a link to a scholarship program in oslo, with normal classes but they finance a place for you to sleep at and like one meal a day, which like - don't get me wrong, is an amazing opportunity. but because they want to hold literature and history classes there in english (for some reason?), they want everyone applying to have a certificate that they know english on B2-C2 level

they already force me to take those english classes here at uni, they made me write an exam at the very beginning and put me in the C1 category. so i pass all my C1 english classes with ease, the entire 1st semester i had to speak with my lector in english because he obv can't speak my native language and i wasn't that capable of speaking norwegian yet

but it's not enough proof that i know the language, well, no i have to spend the entirety of my monthly rent to prove it — and still i might just. not get the scholarship.

im so tired of not being able to do so much in academia, even though i am sure i have the abilities, because i just dont have money for all this shit

I have a crazy year coming up, especially the first three months. But I still want to set some language goals, so here they are:

- Get to the C2 level in French. This is the year I really want to level up my French. I’m helped by the fact that I now speak French at work from time to time.

- Make real progress with Italian. Helped by the fact that I’m living in Italy but still I need to dedicate more effort.

- Norwegian - I want to visit Norway this summer so I’m going to try and work on getting to maybe the A2 level in the next 6 months.

beginner/intermediate: A2, B1 -- capable of Enough

beginning / learning: either currently learning it in classes at a lower level or currently at a low (~A1) level in general
