not really anything concrete or anything at all but my special interest IS art, so sometimes i get bursts of studying other peoples artstyles or aspects of art that i want to incorporate into my own style a lot of art is just basically trying things out until you get it the way you want it or it turns out to how you want it to be, obviously it takes a while and doesnt come easy for a lot of people (i grew up tracting and/or studying artstyles everyday so i can replicate artstyles from tv shows and such really easily, i usually pick and choose what i want) but its really fun to do things like draw your own character or something in someone else's artstyle and studying what they do differently from your own art or how they do certain things or apply certain techniques!!

thank you!! idk if you mean his human or android design but i’ll explain both :D starting off with his android design, he is the very first one i did for any of the portal charas so every other core design is based off his technically lol (except glados whose design varies quite a bit but yknow, she’s the queen and all). i was inspired by other ppl’s android designs for sure, i knew i wanted to include round glasses (robots wearing glasses is peak character design imo very funny), messy hair, his core on his chest because i love it as a design choice even if it’s the most common one i’ve seen. and his handles are an important part of him so i had to add them somewhere, i had seen some artists out them on his shoulders and i was like YES thats cool. So i did that. and the second handle hanging around his hips/legs because i felt like the lower body of my design was lacking with silhouette elements. as i was playing the game for the first time he immediately striked me as a butler-y type of character?? so his android design has a “classier” look (he started wearing a bowtie after he was assigned the job in the extended relaxation center to. Appear friendlier i guess lmao). Despite loving all the tall android wheat designs i’d see online, I always pictured him as quite short, and since he does call himself ‘tiny little wheatley’ i thought it couldve fit to give him a shorter model than the majority of the other cores.

As for his human design, it evolved quite a bit overtime. i was totally, 100% influenced by all the blonde wheatleys with blue eyes i’ve seen in fanart 😭 i did kinda picture him as a ginger at first, but blonde wheatley absolutely took over LMAO. my first human design of him didn’t satisfy me in the slightest tho so i decided to change it by making him chubby and have more facial hair/body hair in general and i immediately went oh yes, now THIS is a wheatley im happy with lol. i had seen a lot of different interpretations of his human look and i personally love the most when people draw him short and fat so i was like. i NEED to upgrade him. other than that his human design is much simpler than his android one bc i do think he’d look like just Some Guy. Some stressed anxious guy who’s constantly on edge in his work place and has little to no time nor energy to dress up much. Very average office guy. He kinda balances out his android self who is fancier.

so in short, my inspo was other amazing portal fanartists 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻 i love yall

One Piece: The Movie: movie 1!! I havent watched this in a while, it's a very early movie before sanji joins but i vaguely remember there being a few zoro and luffy moments, and it's pretty short (i dont remember enough to rate it LOL)

One Piece Clockwork Island: Fun movie! also pretty short too, 7/10

One Piece The Movie: Dead End Adventure: REALLY fun watch, i'd recommend it, 10/10

One Piece: The Cursed Holy Sword: zoro focused movie, i don't remember much about it other than it wasn't.. all that great? been a very long time though

hi! im not able to send you dms but i really want to know what you think about hazbin. i downed the entire thing in a day out of morbid fascination of seeing how that artstyle animates, but the quality of the script and handling of the structure of the show are so dogshit that the show has been lodged in my mind. and my friends who i can rely upon for their thoughtful analysis are not people who would watch it.

Honestly you summed up most of my plights within the show already, its just dogshit all around flaming and whatnot and i cannot believe there's 30 years old who eat this slop up. i can forgive teenagers for liking it (i am very self-aware as someone who read fucking homestuck when i was 13) but i cannot forgive fully grown adults for thinking this show has any sort of nuanced or well-written story

i finished watching the show feeling less aggravated by the designs and visual dev of the whole thing (though obviously its still really bad), and instead more by how insultingly and exhilaratingly bad the writing was.

i could literally take out my blocknote review of the whole show starting from ep 1 to ep 8 but i want to spare my friends who dgaf about hearing about this show. so ill just try to resume concisely my thoughts using my notes as crutches

this will be a very long one and again to spare people of pain ill put it under a readmore

vivienne medrano does not care about the female characters in her own show. idk about helluvaboss and i honestly dont want to watch it unless someone watches it with me, but from what i hear hazbin hotel was supposed to be the show "focused on the girls" while helluva boss was supposed to "focus on theboys". you'll never guess what happens in this show. the main 2 girls, who are supposed to be protagonist, are completely flat characters, that are given the slightest margin of spotlight THE LAST TWO EPISODES OF THE SEASON, and no 8 episodes isnt a justification for the dogshit writing they have. vaggie is the "angry mean militaristic lesbian of color who also coddles her white girlfriend" and charlie is "goody two shoes who doesn't use her powers as literal PRINCESS OF HELL because it's 'too mean' and who is babied and is also written like a baby that doesnt know how to act besides being 'positive and whimsical'". they are literally a ship trope shipped together because idk.

most of the development in the show is handed onto the guys, obviously, as they get the most songs, most exposure to their backstories, and most interactions that are somewhat written less one-dimensionally than the girls. (not to say the guys aren't also walking ship tropes for fanfic purposes). like you can't spin this in a way that doesn't sound bad, the men just get more spotlight and that's a fucking fact. so much for "focus on the girls". fucking SIR PENTIOUS GETS A SONG AFTER HIS DEATH, GUYS

none of the angel vs hell lore makes any fucking lick of sense, and i dont mean to say it needs to be biblically adjacent, it just doesnt make fucking sense even in the "original" lore it is constructing. how is hell supposed to be a threat to heaven when hell denizens dont have access to heaven?? this question alone makes anyone question what the hell the exterminations really are for. also, like, i really fucking hate adam, he's literally the most annoyingly written villain, like he's not even funny in a trashy way. if you want to make your main villain a hypocrite who's also a massive misogynist and sexist, writing him like a frat bro makes sense if your story is set in a college campus. this is HEAVEN AND HELL. all of his lines are just stupid and senseless for the context this all takes place in (also like lute being essentially a tradwife for him is literally such a stupid choice, if you want to make a meaningful commentary about misogyny among women this isnt how it works)

all of the sin and pure shit and repenting deal is like... literally awful. for a show that prides itself on owning the bigots who think gay sex and doing drugs and doing crimes is all inherently evil, the writing really does not do itself a favor of subverting this real-world bigoted way of thinking. as unintentional as it might be it kind of just reinforces it when the character they decide to 'repent' is fucking angel dust, a literal sex worker stuck in a cycle of abuse with an abusive rapist pimp and who does drugs as a way to cope in his life. because obviously sex work (and bdsm) is inherently sinful and disgusting and the only way to repent is to give up disgusting gay sex and sinful drugs and just stick it to the abuser that has you literally by the leash! i dont think this was intentional but it comes off as hilariously stupid and straight up tactless. (also we don't talk about how the storyboarded for the song poison apparently also drew rape comics of angel dust and valentino before as a kink thing)

oh on the topic of valentino, i dont fucking get people liking him. he is literally shown to be abusive and a rapist. people will see a thin man who's not straight and hump his legs like their life depends on it. at least he isnt white but i'd actually say this makes everything worse because vivienne medrano LOVES making the characters in her show of ambiguous ethnicities/backgrounds and ends up making most of the awful ones, of color. again dont think this is INTENTIONALLY done but it still comes across as horrid nonetheless. whew!!!

also i hate alastor in all types ways sauces and forms. he exists to attract fangirls and rabid fans who love tumblr sexymen. other than his design being tremendously aggravating, he's literally just fucking useless, and i hate that the show tries to shoehorn in halfway that he's supposed to be a "dad figure" to charlie when he literally never has done anything dadlike for her in the whole show (and yes i watched the pilot, i still dont think this counts). the only saving grace for alastor is his voice acting. everything else needs to go. there is no saving this one

and, on the topic of alastor, i'm not the first one to point this out but something about him owning husk's soul (the one character being voiced by a black VA, who coincidentally also has a design that is conveniently ambiguous with him being a fucking. winged cat furry demon ig) has like some really bad vibes about it that i can't quite put my finger on. i'm not entirely qualified to like dissect the issues this whole show has with like... the way certain implied characters of color act within it (i say implied because vivziepop is allergic to giving the main characters of her shows actual dark skin colors that arent grey, except maybe some one-off side characters) but it was just so jarring i had to mention it

i also hate lucifer because again, made for purely fanfic ship tropes and rabid fans who are obsessed with 'pathetic sopping wet cat men' with that signular character trait. his persnality is: Depression and Dad. I literally hated every fucking moment in this show where he was in a scene and was treated as "just some guy". same with charlie. Like the lack of authority they have for a supposed KING AND PRINCESS OF HELL is just... i dont know? stupid?

conclusion is that i hate the show, i will however bee seeing season 2 just because at this point im in it for the long run, its just like, other than the visuals being awful; it was legitimately the least aggravating part for me (THIS DOESNT MEAN I LIKE THEM, I DONT, I HATE THEM TOO) but the whole writing is just... wow. i just don't understand how they got a24 to back this up. like you cant make this shit up this bad even if you tried. and im sure there's a trillion other things other people have more eloquently explained in how and which ways they are bad; these are just some of my thoughts.

my concluding statement is that i also feel really bad for people who do entire rewrites of this thing as 'fans'. i dont get it. like i get doing redesigns because it can be an exercise and because lets be real, like, everyones design is bad, hardly anything is salvageable or makes sense. but rewriting... guys please just make your own stories from scratch. at the cost of being told "omg this is just like hazbin hotel!" you have to persevere and just write your own shit. because doing the redesigns means unpacking heaps of 'lore' that doesnt make any whatsoever sense...

TSON FANCOMIC (U.1#)

Im planning on designing all the characters for the TSON comic adaptation as soon as possible and I have set the 15th of October as deadline for that. Currently I am planning on posting somewhere during mid November (probably on Tapas), if all goes well, so I'm not overworked and I can deliver what I hope will be at least decent quality work. I'm already finishing up all the characters from episode 1 and will start working on episode 2 characters between tomorrow and tonight.

Noone has a design that I decided will be final and Otto also does, but I need to adapt the way I draw him in my own artstyle to the comic. I'm confident some practice will do the trick! As for the Ferryman, he's incredibly easy to draw so frankly I'm not worried about him in the slightest. I admit I also sketched up a bit of how I want Sisi to look like -- I will be designing her as a separate character from the ones we already know, I think the design I made for her is very cute.

NOW THE ENVIRONMENTS.........They're gonna give me some trouble most likely, as I tend not to draw backgrounds a lot, but I'm not giving up at all. I will give it my hardest.

Surprisingly, I think the easiest design to conjure up for episode one was the Chained Woman/Prison Ward... I like how she looks. I will not post the designs just yet but I can assure you she slays (figuratively and literally). I'm currently in the process of designing the Workers and I kind of want to give them little clothes but I most likely won't.

hmm i’m not really sure how to answer this, just because of the context of a lot of in-universe things. like if a ghost stronger than pazu existed within the same vicinity as pazu, then he’d be dead (or double-dead i guess, since he already died), unless he managed to outsmart them (technically how he gained a lot of his current power, so). and the only time he actually did “lose” was because he underestimated humans and got too cocky, then got sealed in a dumb idiot box. those are the only two threats to him that exist within that universe, but i guess in a non-canon vacuum if someone more powerful than him appeared and didnt instantly kill^2 him, he’d just be really upset lolol. the only reason his personality is the way it is is because he’s completely confident he’s the strongest, when he thinks he’s even at the slightest disadvantage he loses his cool

i really admire the style of 90s cartoons, everything from the visual art itself to the physical comedy to the emotion within it is something ive always thought was really fun and expressive

i wouldnt say my artstyle is inspired, since i cant really achieve the level of structural fluidity many iconic cartoons of the time had as of right now

however, im super glad that it seems theyve impacted me enough to seep just a little bit into how i draw !! i really do love the art styles of older cartoons. i think their goofiness is super appealing and kinda showcases the childish freedom but also the weirdly eerie nostalgia of the timeframe

Salty Comic Review #1: Eeveelution Squad

[DISCLAIMER: PLEASE DO NOT ATTACK OR HARASS ANYONE MENTIONED IN THIS REVIEW]

Introduction

Eeveelution squad is a DeviantArt comic made by EV-Zero, previously known as PKM-150 which started in 2016 and ended in 2021. This comic was very popular gaining a dedicated fanbase, with many fandubs, art, fanfiction and even fan songs! I know I personally enjoyed it back when I was young, so it holds a lot of nostalgia for me. The author started a reboot of the series but quickly abandoned it, since he was understandably burnt out after working on the comic for 5 years.

Review

As much as this pains me to say, this comic is NOT good. For one, the characters are very basic. I did not care for any of them in the slightest. This problem only gets worse when later in the comic there are way more characters introduced and all of them have the combined personality of a slice of bread. Because most of the characters in the story are eevees or eeveelutions, it becomes difficult to tell them apart at some points. The characters are written in such a way that they don't feel like actual people at all. The best way to describe the writing of this story is, person watches too much anime and shoves every annoying anime trope possible into their story. Many "senpai"s and "baka"s are dropped and it reminds me of those cringey anime kids in high school. The worst offender of this is Glaceon, who has a running bit of harming Jolteon when he does absoloutely nothing wrong. I shouldn't have to say why this is bad. Though this might be partially my personal preference, I hated all of the romances which ranged from vaguely abusive to boring as plaster. If you want to reread the comic for nostalgia purposes, only read the first few chapters, once you get to the special chapters, just stop reading. This comic was such a painful read of 1020 pages, not even including all the extra content. The lore of this story is so unnecessarily complex for a story about which elemental dog is going to smooch who. I could not tell you a single thing about all the lore in this story except there are evil shadow monsters and parallel universes. The lore isn't even important at all to the story. The most irritating thing is that at one point it just starts alternating these long ass exposition dumps inbetween the actual story. The Eeveelution Squad was enjoyed by so many people because it was cute and simple, if it had kept to slice of life it would still be cringey but it would be bearable. But having all this lore literally nobody cares about and pages of long ass textboxes it just not going to work with the kind of story ES is. But no, it had to be dragged out for an unbearably long time because fuck you!

as for my colors. in all honesty i dont have a method thats very easy to describe because its less of a method and more just like .. Many years of aimlessly stumbling around? in all honesty i struggle quite a lot with colors even if i often like the results, it's rarely ever something i'm able to get to a place i like quickly and it's definitely not something i have a consistent method for. all i can really say is i (unfortunately) grew up on lupisvulpes' content, and while i obviously do not support her in the slightest anymore and haven't for years, her stuff did have a pretty big impact on how i do colors because i studied her stuff so much back then. So it's something to do with that. Otherwise i just fuck around until something happens that's genuinely it

Okay so I won't be able to post anything for a bit cuz last week of school and exams up my ass, so imma just drop some shit that I answered to my partner's questions about the wild witch darius au (also i headcanon darius as non-binary he/they):

Darius is already very powerful even with just abomination magic, so I feel like I should nerf him a bit since he's a wild witch in the au. It'd be kind of unfair to just let someone as powerful as him do all magic. So I feel like their magic would be a bit more unstable since they didn't get trained by the past Golden Guard. And keeping in mind that the curse worsens thanks to emotional distress and strong negative emotions, so while he gets stronger during it, they're very unstable and don't have full control over it, being more destructive and less thoughtful attacks.

In the beginning of the au, Alador does make it worse actually. Darius hates Alador in a sour and lonely way, so everytime they and Alador meet up in some way, Darius gets triggered and so does the curse.

He lost all his hope and trust on that man, he didn't go help them during something that ruined his life and just watched, so Darius doesn't let themselves just go back into Alador's arms so easily and that he'll have to go through hell and back for Darius to feel the slightest positive emotion towards him. But later on, Alador does help, by making sure to keep Darius in touch with the reality and the present, that what happened in the past stays in the past, it no longer exists. Ways to help them is by simple touching his shoulder in a caring way or holding them close and reminding him that things aren't horrible anymore.

Darius also became paranoid after getting cursed. They no longer know who to trust and is always on edge, if the person he trusted and loved the most betrayed them in such way, who knows what others will do? Simple acts like sticking close to him, checking up on them and caring about him does help with their paranoia and abandonment issues. They show themselves as elegant, strong, cold and posh as always, when in reality, he has become emotional and afraid, strong emotions always affecting his acts. As much as they try to listen to their brain first, their heart and fears always speak louder.

A good thing is that Alador managed to realize his errors and what Odalia has done. So when he discovered that The Abomination, the one he was supposed to be hunting, was Darius, he gave up on simple goals like just giving them to the emperor, and deciding to do anything in his power to apologize for all those years and for letting someone ruin their life and doing nothing about it. Of course, Darius is constantly trying to push him away as he no longer can handle the sight of him, but Alador simply doesn't stop, he's focused on getting it done, on doing what he should have done around 20/30 years ago, comforting and apologizing to his best friend. The kids do have a big impact on it, Edric, Emira and Amity helping Alador in whatever way possible to reunite with Darius in a positive way, because they have seen the way Darius is now, how afraid he is and how they need a friend or some kind of companion.

what art tips do you recommend for someone who is just starting to get into art? what should I start with before trying to draw people?

honestly im not the type of person to give advice but ill try my best for U

you dont have to like Start with anything before you draw people just ease into art by drawing whatever you like!!!! just put fun first while you draw

BUT if youre trying to like rigorously improve id say that the best thing to do is to search up art tutorials online lol. but DONT do what i did and take in EVERY tip you hear from everything you watch, just take all of their advice w a grain of salt and see if it benefits YOUR art and YOUR confidence in it. my rule of thumb is to MAYBE not take the advice of someone who draws an extremely hard line between "do's" and "dont's" and if they like insult art theyre reviewing. at least my tip

ok ill be honest i never like. bought any anatomy books or whatever i just started drawing drawing drawing and then watching videos and how tos i know everyone says this but its true progress is PAINFUL at times and SLOW but you will get there if you keep at it like the best piece of advice is to practice there will be the slightest improvement everytime you work on your skills and it will all add up in the end

i know that starting with art feels pretty overwhelming but there really is no specific endgoal you have to reach.. theres always something to improve upon you never stop learning until you stop period. but once you like notice you improved there will be joy and peac☮️..

the best way to ASK for advice is to be more specific in what ur asking e.g. how do you draw hands how do you draw dynamic poses

dont get too hung up on getting a unique artstyle
