Dark Academia Novel Planner Template
Want to plan your next writing project but google docs is too messy and, let's be honest, unaesthetic, and scrivener and novelpad are too expensive?
Well Notion is the best option. It has excellent organization and is aesthetically pleasing.
During my time as a wannabe writer, I've developed a Notion template exactly for that -- planning and writing a novel (or a novella, or a series. Pick your poison, my friends and foes).
I'll add some introductory slides here.

So if that sound like something you're into, you can click here to see it or here to visit my Etsy page. I have other writing-related templates there as well ;)

I think there's a huge disconnect these days where images are communal when it's about saying right click save to nft bros but somehow protecting the sanctity of image ownership when talking about artists online. Like follow the thread. Thinking you Own an image or idea just because ypu made it does a disservice to the idea of art-as-sharing including engaging with remixing and recontextualizing and replication.
Like yes artists deserve recognition over the products of what they make but monopolizing something intrinsically shred is so wrongheaded. IP law will not protect you when it's always the richer culture producer who can gird up with lawyers to defend that your works are derivative enough to be considered theirs not yours.
Like yes talk about injustices and bad usage as they exist but it's not a problem with ai. Same shit can be said about using Photoshop or something come on now

From my previous post about system journals, I have already gotten two systems asking me about the Notion template we're using, and I see that systems are interested in it, so here's the link to a template of the latest version we've saved for if we ever need it.
I do love talking to you, don't get me wrong, y'all are amazing, and it's never an inconvenience for us to reply to messages. However, I cannot always reply on time, and I know that starting a conversation feels awkward/pressuring.
Credits go to the original author. While this is a tool for systems to use, I am not claiming it as my own. This template belongs to Mickie on Tiktok and Discord, not us and our system.
You can see the original post here (I did not want to reblog it as it's long already).
Side note: In the previous post, I also mentioned Mickie Makes Things, which is a server where you get the latest updates of the notion template with additional modules and stuff. However, I would like to warn those who might want to try and find it, we didn't have the best experience with it, and as far as i know, the server is currently dead. While it's not a universal experience, and yours might be different, I felt obliged to say it.
P.S. I will add what I said to the people who talked to me: "Although I do have to warn you, Notion requires you to make an account before doing anything. Once you've made an account, you're gonna have to find the "copy to your dashboard" button or something along the lines, and there you have it."

I wonder what part of a man a lady would measure with this.
Pocket sized measuring tape found in with some of my great grandmother's sewing notions.

A part of growing up is realizing that sometimes things that work for the majority/most people...just don't for you.
This post is based on me accepting that some "productivity tools" just aren't productive for me, personally
And that's alright. Just need to find anothe one, or another way to go about it
Not every tool works for everyone
I tried Notion for writing and keeping my ideas organized. And on paper / in theory, it's all cool and good and writeblr even has templates for it
But it just doesn't work for me
Just not comfortable.
So I'm planning on taking what I've done so far out and putting it all somewhere else.
Similarly, I keep adding to Google Tasks but too messy and my things get lost.
People are different and growing up is learning, understanding, and accepting that sometimes stuff that works for others just doesn't work for you
One reason against Notion and Google Tasks could be that I'm probably ADD, or neurodivergent at the very least
Right now, here's what I'm trying out:
Google sheets for story. 1 sheet for characters, 1 for outline/plot, 1 for dialogue ideas (did this for 1 novel and it worked really well!)
Discord for ideas. I made a server that's just me. And channels are collections like #ideas #resources. Then planning on creating threads inside them. So a thread called writing in #resources that's that
I was addicted to Pinterest and have so many boards and stuff organized. It's an issue finding stuff but stuff's there and I might try to make use of the boards and collections I have rn, instead of adding more
Moving Notion to Google Docs before I organize and move to Discord
Using Ywriter for scene organization and heavy stories
Using Google docs for actual writing (I do this anyway)
Zotero for academic referencing, researching, collection (I used this before and enjoyed it. Right now I'm using it for a research paper I'm doing just for fun ie I'm not affiliated with any uni or organization, it's just my new hyperfixation and I'd like to write a paper :))

I have literally never heard of those silicone stitch holder tube things before (I guess barber cords in some cases?). Like, I breeze in and out of yarn craft circles, but I've been reasonably tuned into the knitting world on and off for a decade, and this is the first I'm hearing about them. I can't tell whether this is something new or whether it was apparently there the whole time and I just totally missed it.
I moved so many stitches. So many times. With love! But still. So many stitches.
They look amazing. There also seem to be spools of the exact same cord available elsewhere (I think for jewlery-making?), so I'll probably go with that.
Choosing to be excited to try them on my next project instead of annoyed that I only heard about them at the end of this one.

I should just buckle down and finish instead of letting my fic do psychic damage to me when i'm not writing it but I still think about the juxtaposition of Eight next to Theron. I've been trying to parse why their relationship is so tense from Theron's pov even though Eight feels no threat or animosity towards him whatsoever and besides the guilt, it's because he's looking at what he's afraid of being: a spy that became so much of the role's definition that he no longer has any place among other people. One who is used to hurting and hurting others. An agent who only exists in the liminal spaces of blacked-out documents and in the hurried whispers of shadowy figures that do not stay.
Theron is a good spy. He devotes himself wholly to the job. But he hurts and hesitates when forced to do an aspect of it that goes against his conscience; an odd thing to have as an agent, when betrayal is the name of the game.
He remains riddled with guilt for one mission that ultimately had no friendly casualties, while Eight stands before him, an agent known for killing friend and foe, for his lack of commitment to sides, for his self-made solitude built out of the skeletons of other people. Eight is so desensitized to the game that he can thrive nowhere else. Eight has been in it so long he does not blink at these actions, nor at Theron's. He wonders if he's really here for him or just to watch him fall, like a carrion feeder waiting for the body to cool.
Then he beats himself up for thinking that way towards someone who has taken shrapnel for him without hesitation before, and the cycle of having no answers to a cipher of a living being continues.
But in the back of his mind, he sees the same nightmare he so often dreams about on the most sleepless of eves; Eight is extending a hand to him, halfway through a door with no light. "Come on," He says, darkness lapping at his outline like disturbed waters, "I'll lead you to a place where no one can see your mistakes ever again."

on: attempted productivity
i'll start this blog off with a disclaimer: i don't know much about productivity, but maybe tomorrow's me knows more. i religiously obsess over productivity tools but i am somewhat attention deficient and it's hard for me to actually use them. if this sounds like you, feel free to follow along to see how i do!
given the above, i am going to restrict myself to two tools, and potentially modify them as i learn what works for me. i am using:
forest for time-keeping
notion for task-tracking and general organization
as for what i'm working on, i am currently attempting to speed-run a 10-week course in... wait for it... one week! thankfully it is an interesting course about implementing programming languages with OCaml, and i am at least somewhat motivated by the material because i want to try creating a language for fun this summer!
once this week is over, i'll be interning at microsoft (yay!), blogging for my school's admissions blog, working part-time for a small ed-tech nonprofit, and working on some personal projects. basically, there will be plenty to keep me busy and, ideally, somewhat productive.
i'll try to post daily updates (100 days of productivity-style) every night with a wrap-up and aesthetic collage and/or forest, because i'm motivated by pretty things. i'll also interlude with tips & more long-form posts like this as i figure things out.
if you choose to follow along, thanks for learning with me, and i wish you the best of luck with your studies/ work/ etc. <3
