hmmmmm maybe reader being drunk flirty at a bar or something in front of the team and spencer is trying SO hard to save face but its not happening because reader is obsessed with him?
and ofc the team is teasing the hell outta him and will never let it go
https://www.tumblr.com/mandarinmoons/746776666636976128/ok-i-need-this-line-in-a-fic
ugh sorry that if that sucks
No no that certainly does not suck hehe
Not many knew this, but those who did (also known as Penelope Garcia) knew that you had quite the little crush on your coworker Spencer Reid. During breaks you’d go to Penelope’s cave and half of the time you’d gush about how cute Spencer looked in the outfit he chose for the day or how your hands brushed as you reached for the same mug in the kitchen as you both craved some coffee. In other words, whenever he was around, you were toast.
After finishing an extremely exhausting case the team decided to head out to a bar and you were determined not to hold back with drinks. A few glasses of wine and a round of shots later you felt like you were floating. Spencer kept his eyes on you with great concern and as you wobbled your way to the bar to get another mojito, he was on your tail and wrapped an arm around you to help steady you.
“Easy now,” you leaned to the side and Spencer pulled you close to him, but because of your shaky legs you ended up face planting into his chest.
“Wow,” you giggled and patted Spencer’s chest as you looked up at him.
Spencer’s cheeks were getting noticeably red and it was visible for the rest or the team back at the booth. You could hear them chuckling and teasing Spencer to “go get ‘em!”.
“Oh hey, how’d these end up here?” you took Spencer’s hands and placed them around your waist, even though you were the one initiating the flirty banter you still felt butterflies swarm your stomach.
“H-Hey, let’s go sit down, okay?” your actions were clearly making the man nervous and it only made you want to tease him more. Sober you might never be able to get the right words out, but drunk you decided to take matters differently.
“Nooo, I wanna be at the bar with you,” pouting your lips and fluttering your lashes made Spencer’s heart skip a beat, how could he say no to you? You couldn’t tell, but he did have a bit of a crush on you as well and seeing you act this way with him did fill him with joy.
“Okay okay, only for a little yeah?”
You nodded and Spencer helped you sit down at a stool and kept his arm around you so you wouldn’t fall face first onto the floor. You got the drink you wanted and Spencer made sure you took small sips so you wouldn’t rush to get another one. As much as he had a hard time saying no to you he didn’t want to end up taking care of a hung over you in the morning, not that he didn’t want to, but because of his fear of germs he knew he wouldn’t be able to clean up your puke.
Slowly you rested your head on the counter and Spencer reached over and brushed the hair from your face. You stirred a bit and leaned into Spencer’s hand as his fingers rested on your cheek.
Spencer loved the affection you’d shown him tonight and he wished that it would’ve happened during different circumstances. He knew that alcohol made people act irrationally and the chances of you being so loving could be added up to that, however, alcohol also showed people’s true feelings and the chances of you liking back were the same and that’s all he needed to know.

ok but how do you think Spencer would react to you reading in his favorite cardigan and his favorite lingerie set?!?
okay but almost bought a very expensive lingerie set bc i am sad and retail therapy is the best but we all know no one’s gonna be seeing anything for the foreseeable future lmao
ANYWAY! Okay so ofc I’m saying this is early seasons spencer bc i have deluded myself into thinking he’s my husband and i am his wife <3
spencer reid x fem reader (18+)
Let’s say you’re shopping online and come across an advertisement for a new lingerie brand.
Not to protect my tastes but I think he’d like lingerie that’s mesh and unlined with delicate floral details on the sides in pastel pinks, blues, whites, and of course lavender
But also something riskier and more strappy in dark reds and black with garter belts that wrap around your body
I think he’d like the contrast of the lace or mesh against the soft, coziness of the cardigans
And then there's the fact that it's his cardigans which makes Spencer's possessive side just jump out
He would walk into the apartment, exhausted and drained, hardly realizing that you’re sitting on the couch wearing next to nothing
“Oh” Spencer would say, dropping his bag to the floor rushing over to you on the couch. He’d crouch to his knees, his hands going immediately to your hips. “What on earth did I do to deserve this?”
He lifts his head, melting as you thread your fingers through his hair and scratch his scalp. Spencer would close his eyes, loving the attention like the touch starved man he is.
“Being you” you’d say, gently kissing Spencer’s forehead. “You sounded exhausted on the phone, baby. I thought we’d relax. Enjoy each other.”
“I’m going to more than enjoy you,” Spencer would whisper trailing kisses along your thighs. He’d be so good at making you feel pretty you almost believe it.
He would be so gentle, holding himself back from tearing away the pretty lace and fabric. Even though he wants to rip the flimsy fabric in two.
This is Glasses Spencer (My Beloved Husband TM) so there would be a nervousness to him as he sees you in his clothes coupled with something as overtly sexy as lingerie. He would be blushing from his cheeks to his ears to his chest.
And you undo a couple of his buttons, trying to get him to relax a little bit, but just making him more anxious
He would be ridiculously attentive, whispering praise and blushing when he receives all this well deserved praise too
Once he gets more confident in his sex life, Spencer would 100% be ordering sets he would think you'd like. And totally be down for a try-on show after a stressful day at work.

୨୧ — s.r x singer!r; headcanons (1)
pairing: post prison!spencer x singer!reader
feeding into my daydreams..
also, this was prompted by scrolling through radiant-reid's spencer x famous!reader posts which i love because they simply fuel my daydreams even more :)) enjoy !
probably met on a case or something of that sort. he also studied in la at one point so they possibly could have met through a mutual friend but tbh her being a target is most likely!
penelope is obviously a very big fan. like out of all the people on the team, she's probably the one who listens to y/n's music the most, maybe even went to one of her concerts
oh my god just think about the sweet little love songs. :'(( ugh imagine spence getting all flustered when it gets released and the whole team is just playing the song 24/7 to tease him
most likely didn't have any social media beforehand. but after dating y/n he decided to get instagram or maybe twitter just to see her posts and literally only post her on his feed because she's just so pretty and cute to post
oh my.. imagine the fans the first time y/n ever posts a photo of spencer in a photo dump !! and his reaction to all the comments and tweets, he's just so confused why people want him to hit them with a truck he's like ??? "that would be fatal, why would they thank me for that?"
also yes this is post prison reid because he was just 10x hotter than he already was once he was released. argue with the wall.
guys !! award shows with spencer !! that would be everything !!
he would be so supportive of every win too :(( even if you were only nominated or just there to perform he would still be so so proud as if you did win something
he's for sure for sure the first person to hear every song. unless it's about him. those one's are usually a surprise.
ugh imagine putting a soundbite of him somewhere in a song. maybe at the end or beginning and it's just a small bit of a voicemail or video that you two filmed together just having fun. or possibly something spicy but... shhhhhhhhh
comes to every fitting, every rehearsal. hell, maybe even on tour as well if he gets time off from the bau. especially since he would already be used to the whole 'flying around every other day' thing from cases.
whenever they have a case in california he always always makes sure to stay behind a few days to hang out with you especially because him being in dc and always travelling for work would mean long distance
and if you're not on tour you decide to stay in dc for a while or even move there (while still having property in california) so that you get to be with him anytime he's home
having a concert in dc !! ofc he invites everyone (as if garcia wasn't already planning on going anyway lmaoo) so they could all see and probably meet you
if this is pre prison!reid, and hotch was still unit chief, he would for sure give spence a whole lecture about how careful he has to be with dating somebody with such a high profile profession, because he knows how high risk celebrities are to stalkers and home invasions
the whole team is very very supportive of them though, even if it's long distance because they find a way to make it work.
also best believe she gets spence an actual iPhone as a gift so that they can facetime when either one of them is away
him playing the piano in one of your songs awhhhh :( and he has writing or producing credits on it
you already know that whoever is driving puts on y/n's music just to tease him. ESPECIALLY IF IT'S A SPICY SONG ehehehe
ugh but if it's a really sad song for example "decode" by sabrina carpenter (which is absolutely heartbreaking lyrically but i highly recommend u listen to it) he gets all sad because he knows exactly what it's about and remembers when you first wrote it
ok i have to stop myself before i go absolutely ham on headcanons. i have so many thoughts about this trope.
hope u enjoyed !

Sometimes you couldn't help but think that if you and Spencer hadn't worked together, he would implode on himself. It was so easy for his mind to run faster than what his body could handle, and he cared so deeply for his students, so most of the time he would forget to take care of himself.
You remember the day that you had met him, fresh meat as you nervously hung out in the teachers lounge feeling very out of place. Everyone looked so knowledgeable and experienced with their vests and prestigious cardigans, and maybe this was what you should have expected when you had gotten a job at a very luxurious school that only the smartest and brightest could get into. You felt a bit underdressed with your frilly and colorful dress, your hair littered with little hair clips to fit your outgoing personality.
Your classroom looked the same with multiple posters, tinsels, and just wall decor in general. You hoped that it would create a less tense atmosphere for the newcomers, seeing as though you opted to teach a college freshman class. Maybe you had hoped that all of you being in the same boat would make it easier, for you or for them? You didn't know.
As you looked down at the cat watch that sat upon your wrist, your eyes widened. Many of your students would be back from their lunch break. As you internally praised yourself for bringing your own coffee mug, you rushed to leave, but not without bumping into someone first. You could feel your cup get lighter as the luke warm contents inside of it spilled all over the front of the poor man in front of you.
“Oh my god, oh my god!” You panicked, your eyes frantically searched the longue for something to wipe the man down with, your gaze landing on some of the napkins sat upon the side of the sink. You rushed to grab them, apologies already spilling out of your mouth as you pathetically dapped at the man's clothing.
“I am so sorry, I really wasn't watching where I was going, oh God.” You watch the creme colored liquid bleeding onto the napkin. “Just great, exactly what I needed on my first day. How could I already get fired, I haven't even been a teacher for a day! Oh gosh, it took me so long to decorate my classroom.” Your brain was going a mile a minute as you muttered quiet degrading words to yourself.
“Fired?” You heard the man chuckle. You stopped your dabbing to look at him, and you mean really, look at him. He was handsome no doubt, but the bags under his eyes spoke volumes as well as his untamed curly hair added emphasis. The pupils of his eyes were slightly dilated, which was obviously due to the caffeine.
“I just—” You faced palmed in embarrassment, a shy smile on your face as you realized you were now the man's main focus. “Can I get you another cup of coffee?” You asked sheepishly. He deeply chuckled, “I think I'd really like that.”
You didn't know that would have been his tenth cup of the day, but he couldn't say no to you, no matter how much sugar that he had ended up consuming, or the fact that he ended up laying over the toilet as he vomited, but he couldn't stop thinking about the pretty professor in the bright dresses.
Five years later and you're still wearing those type of clothes, only this time a pretty diamond ring had made itself an addition to your outfits. You were currently on your way to his classroom, his students often overjoyed at seeing their favorite history professor. Even though you weren't fond of the criminology class, sometimes even walking in as a dead body was shown, you were fond of Spencer, and that's all that mattered.
It was strange, feeling like you were outside looking into your life through a different point of view as you peered at the man from the same spot you had found yourself after the day you had met him, watching him teach as if he hadn't slept in two days.
As you knocked gently to alert your husband of your presence, many of his students broke out in enthusiastic greetings.
“Hi, Mrs. Reid!” Or “You look pretty today, Mrs. Reid!” As well as your favorite, “Where did you get your shoes from?” You would never not jump at the chance to share your favorite boutique that made the funky, but signature looking shoes.
“Hello, everyone!” You greeted with a smile. “Alright you guys, take these next few minutes to discuss the case.” He turned to you with a large smile, grabbing your hand and pulling you out into the hallway as you wrapped your chunky arms around his neck, watching him closely as you searched for those same dilated eyes.
“What did I tell you about disrupting my class?” He asked teasingly, leaning down to press a quick kiss to your lips. “I know, I know, but I missed you. And I also wanted to make sure that you weren't all sugared out.” He laughed, his lips pulling into that geeky smile of his that you loved so much. His body had definitely softened over the years, but that just meant that there was more of him for you to love. “Trust me, I've only had two today. Ever since you told my kids to keep an eye on me, they've been on my ass about it.”
You raised an eyebrow, a shit-eating grin taking it's place on your face as you twirled a piece of hair around your finger.
“Good, I don't need you vomiting like last time.” He just shrugged, “But I got to talk to you, so it was worth it.” You snorted, pulling him down for a sweet kiss. “Oh, shut up.”

OFC x Spencer Reid
Borrowed request from someone else.
No warning tags.
Still new. Hope you enjoy. Let me know if I should continue.
Spencer sighed a little as he tugged at his bowtie and Emily smacked his hand away from it. He scowled and she smiled. “I don’t know why I let you talk me into coming to the ballet with you.” He said, shoving his hands nervously in his pockets. “It’s my best friend's performance and she gave me a plus one. I didn’t want to let the ticket go to waste and I know you need to get out of the house for a bit. All you do lately is go to work and go home. You haven’t gone out with us in like a month.” Emily said as they waited for the car she ordered for the night to pull up. “Hey. I just want to make sure you are okay Spencer. If you really don’t want to go you can turn around and walk away right now.” Emily said honestly looking at him. He let out a deep sigh and gave her a bit of a forced smile. “Well I don’t want you to go by yourself.” He said and Emily squealed. “Perfect.” She said as the car pulled up and the two climbed in.
The drive to the theater wasn’t very long but Spencer nervously spat out facts about ballet the entire time. Emily knew it made him feel better so she just smiled and nodded, she felt kind of bad for the driver. Once they arrived she pulled out the tickets and practically dragged Spencer inside and to their seats which were in the 3rd row. Spencer sat there fidgeting with his bowtie until the lights lowered and the curtain raised to reveal a beautiful redheaded ballerina standing in the middle of the stage. Spencer felt his hands drop into his lap and he quickly became entranced by the girl dancing on the stage. He couldn’t take his eyes off of her. As she moved flawlessly across the stage Spencer bit his lip and leaned forward in his seat a bit. When the music ended and she struck her final pose on the stage he jumped to his feet to give a standing ovation along with everyone else in the theater. Emily smiled as she watched Spencer become so enthralled with the girl. “Come on, there's a gala after the performance and we are invited.” She said, directing the man to the portion of the theater where the gala was being held.
“So what did you think?” Emily asked and Spencer smiled a little brighter than he had in weeks. “That was…she was…I mean. She was beautiful. Amazing dancer.” He said feeling a bit nervous for some reason. “Emily!” He heard someone call out and he turned to see a beautiful redhead walking towards them. Oh gosh. It was her. Spencer gave a nervous smile as the girl walked up to the pair of them and quickly hugged Emily. “You look beautiful!” She said and Emily smiled, waving her hand to dismiss her. Emily did look beautiful in the red dress she was wearing. “You look beautiful! You were amazing. I can't believe how good you have gotten. I mean I know you were always good but just wow.” Emily said and the girl smiled. Spencer just fidgeted looking between the two. “Oh Spencer, this is Arabella Montgomery. We’ve been friends since high school. Bella, this is Doctor Spencer Reid. He works with me at the FBI.” Emily introduced the two and Spencer gave her a little wave which she returned. “Did…did you uhm. Did you know that ballet started in the 1500s but women weren’t allowed to dance in ballet until around 1681? King Louis XIV of France would actually dance in a lot of the performances himself.” Spencer’s cheeks were bright red by this point and it made Bella smile. “I didn’t know that. I find that very interesting.” Bella said with a grin. Spencer was avoiding eye contact and kept looking down at his feet.
“Why don’t I go get us some champagne.” Bella suggested and gave a little twirl that caused her short dark green dress to fluff out around her. “I can’t remember the last time I heard you stutter. You okay?” Emily asked, looking up at Spencer whose cheeks got impossibly redder. “What? Yeah. I’m fine, I just. She is really pretty. And I feel like my heart is going to explode. I don’t like it.” He said and Emily chuckled. “Sounds like someone is falling in love.” Emily teased and Spencer frowned. “I’ve never felt like this around someone before. I don’t know what to do?” He asked, looking at Emily desperately. “I know she’s single. Ask her out for coffee or something.” Emily suggested and he nodded. “Okay.” He said and they both watched as Bella walked up with 3 glasses of champagne that she quickly passed out. “To old friends and new friends.” She said looking up at Spencer with a smile as they all tapped their glasses together and everyone took a sip.
Emily and Bella fell into an easy conversation and Spencer just watched the girl stand there and talk. He memorized the curves of her face and body, how she favored her left leg a little and adjusted more of her weight to her right suggesting a possible injury or precursor to an injury. He memorized how her hips curved and dipped but that her ribs protrude slightly. She was perfect. He took in how her cheeks flushed a little when she noticed that he was staring at her and he quickly looked away. “Did you know that professional tutus can take up to 90 hours and up to 100 yards of tulle to make?” She asked and it caused Spencer to smile. “I know some ballet facts. I have been dancing since I could walk after all.” She said with a soft giggle and the sound made Spencer’s heart clench. He wanted to wrap his arms around her thin waist and kiss every inch of the pale skin of her neck and shoulders and devour her with love. It was such a strange feeling for him that it was kind of scaring him. He noticed very subtly that she shivered and he quickly tugged his suit coat off and draped it around her shoulders. “Thank you.” She said, giving him a smile. “I’m going to go use the restroom.” Emily said giving Spencer a look that she typically reserved for unsubs who wouldn’t confess their sins.
“So you and Emily work together, that's really cool.” Bella gestured towards the closets table and the two sat down. “Yeah she is really good at her job.” He wasn’t sure what else to say. “Do you want to get coffee with me in the morning?” He blurted out and almost wanted to smack his own face. That was such a stupid thing to do. “Yeah I would love that.” She replied with a smile causing him to pause and look at her with a raised eyebrow. Did he hear that right? “Okay…uhm. McAlpines on 24th avenue tomorrow at 8?” He asked and she nodded. She stood up and took off his jacket and handed it back to him, leaning in to kiss his cheek gently leaving behind a red lipstick print. “See you tomorrow Spencer.” She said and stood up with a grin. “Tell Emily I said goodnight.” She turned to walk away and all Spencer could do was nod…repeatedly. “Why are you nodding?” Emily asked, walking up as Bella walked away and that was when she noticed the lipstick print on Spencer's cheek. Emily quickly pulled out her phone and dialed a number holding it up to her ear. “Hey Morgan, it worked. Yeah. A kiss on the cheek. I think he short circuited.” She giggled and hung up the phone quickly. Things went just the way she was hoping they would. Now maybe Spencer would have a reason to smile.

“I’ve changed my mind,” you growled. Hugging toilet bowls had never been a hobby, and you were doing it a lot more now than ever before. You had tried to send Sy away exactly once, and failed miserably. Now, he was sitting behind you, holding your hair back while you still tried to hide what you were doing from his sight. You were going to have to become a lot more comfortable with a lot of things over the next few months…
“I wish I could do anything to help, Sugar,” Sy sighed. You could tell he felt powerless and useless. Sidelined. But as far as you were concerned, he wasn’t on the sidelines for this one. He was smack in the middle of all of it. In fact…
“This is your fault,” you snarled as you let your head hang. The echo inside the toilet made it sound extremely melodramatic, but who gave a damn? You had been throwing up almost non-stop for what felt like ages. In reality, it had been two weeks – and you hadn’t been throwing up non-stop, it just felt like it sometimes. Nevertheless, it had been two long, excruciating weeks that had made you really grateful for every day of your life you had spent… God, how to put it... Non-nauseated and happy?
“How is this my fault?” Oh no, poor man. You had definitely been taking out some extra frustration on him - which he didn’t deserve at all, by the way. He was nothing short of an absolutely ideal boyfriend.
“You knocked me up,” you said, pouting at him. A smirk took over his face. You knew that look.
“I did, didn’t I?” Good God. It had taken both of you a few days – and the confirmation by your doctor that you were really pregnant – to get used to the idea a bit, but ever since the news had settled in… The easiest way of putting it would be that Sy was just very proud of himself. And of you, that went without saying, but there was definitely a new level of swagger and attitude surrounding him in everything he did.
He took every bit as much care of you as before – which you occasionally struggled with, still – and now that you were working on a whole new human, he had doubled down on those efforts. And let’s be real; you deserved it. You were building a baby, dammit. At night, his hand had permanently relocated to your stomach. It was a good thing; over the past week or so your boobs had really been giving you hell. You had yet to break the news to Sy that there was a significant chance that particular playground would remain closed for the foreseeable future… He wasn’t going to like that, you were pretty sure of it.
The sound of running water was unexpected, but not nearly enough to actually make you look up. It was the nudge against your shoulder that finally did that, and you saw Sy holding out a glass of water for you. Rinsing wasn’t enough to get the taste out of your mouth, but it sure as hell wasn’t for lack of trying.
“You should drink some,” Sy pointed out. He was right, of course. “Can you get up?” He helped you off the floor and into the shower before announcing that he was going downstairs to make you a cup of tea. You sighed – what else could you do? – not because you didn’t appreciate the gesture, or even because you didn’t want the tea. Peppermint tea usually helped with the nausea, so that was a definite bonus. You were just sad that Sy’s arms wouldn’t be around you anymore, and also sad you couldn’t have coffee.
He returned a little while later. You hadn’t even gotten around to washing your hair yet. Instead, you’d just been standing around, warming up…
“Do you mind if I join you?” Sy asked. He was already naked in front of you, what the hell did he expect you to say other than ‘ehm, hell yeah!’ Although the flat little hum you let out lacked his preferred enthusiasm, you were definitely still thinking it? Did that count? You decided it counted. Sy seemed to be of a slightly different opinion, raising an eyebrow at you as if to ask you a question. You knew which one, and of course you still loved him.
“Please come here and hug me?” You said, stretching your arms out to him. Sy stepped into the shower with you and held you for all of two seconds before he started kissing you. At first, you tried to turn away, but he wouldn’t let you.
“Sy! I haven’t brushed my teeth,” you said. It didn’t look like this man was going to take no for an answer.
“I’ll happily kiss you anywhere else, Sugar.” He lifted you as if you weighed nothing and kissed your neck. He had shown you time and time again that he could throw you around like it didn’t mean a thing, and you were always really happy about it.
“Sy, not today.” He put you down with a grunt of frustration. You’d been turning him down consistently for weeks now – even before the engagement/birthday party, there had been some time with plenty of reasons not to. Some hadn’t changed – tired, pain, not feeling well – some were new – baby, hormones. It’s not like you wanted to say no, it’s just that you were tired and feeling sick, and it was a hassle.
“Do you even remember how we got in this situation, Sugar?” Sy said through gritted teeth. His irritation rubbed you the wrong way. Yes, you did. As a matter of fact, the memories of your previously very active sex life haunted you in your unusually vivid dreams – and even those weren’t enough to get you to wake up in the mood for sex. And the fact that Sy was pushing for it, really didn’t help. “Sugar, I honest to God just miss you. But it’s fine. Just give me five minutes and I’ll come to bed.” Oh. It was nice to know that he wasn’t just asking because he wanted to get laid, that really helped settle the irritation that had started burning inside you. You got out of the shower and got ready for bed, already thinking about the peppermint tea that was waiting for you on your nightstand, and hoping vigorously that it would help settle the nausea as it always did.
You thought about what Sy said in the shower while you carefully sipped the hot beverage. He missed you. You’d be lying if you said you didn’t miss him, but why did it have to be that? Your thoughts were interrupted by the sounds emerging from the shower. You’d heard them plenty of times before, yet it somehow still felt like a massive violation of his privacy. He’d disagree; it was routine for him, he wouldn’t even stop when you walked into the bathroom before he was done. In fact, you suspected he liked that you took little peeks at him in the mirror, too shy to actually turn around and watch him – and you were pretty sure that if you did turn around to watch him, he’d love that, too.
Your thoughts went back to the issue of his intimacy cravings when the water shut off. He still had to take care of his beard – probably the one thing about his appearance he was a little vain about – which gave you a little time to think things over. There was no doubt in your mind – or anyone else’s – that Sy was a very physical guy when it came to loving you, and not always the best with words. He basically worshipped you, always taking care of you, always wanting to touch you… Why did you treat that like such a bad thing when it wasn’t? The things he did for you… You never got the idea that he was doing them just to get laid. In fact, you never got the idea he wanted anything in return. What if your big guy just wanted to love his woman the best way he knew how?

Aitana brought her game tonight even if it meant feeling her soreness each time she moved quicker than she should. Still, she was very proud when she fit the last piece of the puzzle before Spencer could even reach for the damn thing.
"Ha! Yes! I win—" She had barely cheered with fists in the air when she felt the sharp jab on her side and was forced to pull her arms down. She settled for one mock salute afterwards.
Spencer was only holding his laugh because it looked like she'd hurt herself badly. "I, uh, thought this was supposed to be a friendly puzzle..." He remarked, pushing his chair closer to the table.
Aitana snorted, very subtle passing a hand over her wound. The kitchen table thankfully hid the movement from Spencer. "You do realize that everyone else was happy to tell me that you're secretly competitive, right?"
"Spencer frowned. "I'm not competitive."
"That's not what Morgan swears."
"I'm not!"
Aitana raised a hand, indicating she would pause the argument. "You know what? Because you so kindly came over to lend me a new book and you actually sat down to do a puzzle with me, I'm going to pretend that Morgan wasn't right. You've given me some fun on this solitary evening of mine."
Spencer deadpanned her. "Wow, so big of you. Thanks."
Aitana smiled proudly. "Yes, I am."
Spencer pretended to disapprove of her tidbits. She was right, though, in that the evening had turned out to be a little more fun than expected. Keeping true to his promise, he had let her borrow some of his books while she recuperated at home. Tonight, he'd stopped by to pick up the finished book from her and to give her a new one in place. He found her alone at home doing a puzzle and when she asked if he wanted to stay for a bit, he couldn't refuse. More to the fact that he actually liked doing puzzles, he wasn't fond of the idea of her being alone while she was healing a bullet wound. In the case of an emergency, it would be better if someone was with her. It was also a better way to spend his free evenings. He had found himself drifting to JJ's home a lot more lately and he would like to give her couch a break. Aitana seemed to help distract him in a good way.
So, she allowed him to help her with her puzzle. Somehow along the way, it may have turned into an unspoken race to see who could finish it first. She did, apparently. It was all still very shocking to Spencer.
"Alright, I'm sorry," Aitana said in the end, offering him one genuine smile. "I may get a little competitive myself."
"Noo," Spencer feigned shock.
"But it's not often I can do it with puzzles!" she exclaimed. "My family doesn't do them and Elia thinks they're kind of stupid so I'm usually only competitive with myself. But now I have you!"
"Lucky me…"
"I'll stop," Aitana said, leading Spencer to laugh.
"No, it's fine. But you do know that I let you win, right?"
Aitana raised an eyebrow at him. "Oh? You let me win?"
Spencer nodded, now growing his own smirk. "Sorry to tell you the truth, but you don't get a pass just because you have an injury."
Her 'ha!' echoed in the kitchen. "We'll just see about that," she warned. She reached for the puzzle box and pulled the lid open. "You know I have like a hundred more of these boxes, right?" She asked as she started dumping their finished puzzle into the box.
"Are they actually challenging?" Spencer was full blown proud of himself by this point. He couldn't tell if the incredulous shock on Aitana's face was real or not but he liked it either way.
"Oh, oh, it's on!" she pointed at him. "It is so on! Just you wait!"
"I look forward to it," he said, flashing her a casual smile that just irked her even more.
Before she said anything else, they heard the front door opening. Spencer didn't even have the time to consider the possibility of an intruder when a familiar voice called.
"Aitana?"
"Kitchen!" Aitana didn't look up from the puzzle she was dumping into the box.
Spencer recognized Angel when he walked into the room.
"We have visitors?" He looked at Spencer with some curiosity.
"Competition," Aitana corrected, shooting Spencer a little mock-glare.
Spencer smiled only briefly now. It was hard not to feel self conscious around Angel after everything that happened — things that almost happened. He was beginning to realize that he had actually spent quite a few hours with Aitana tonight. There was nothing wrong with it of course (they hadn't done anything wrong) but there was the senseless guilt gnawing at him anyways.
"I'm sorry, what was the name again?" Angel asked.
Spencer cleared his throat as he pulled himself up from his chair. "Spencer Reid," he could only wave a hand at Angel.
"I'm Angel, nice to see you again. Sorry, I forget just about everything."
"His head wouldn't be there if it wasn't attached," Aitana remarked and smirked when Angel shot her a look.
"Ignoring her," Angel pulled his attention off her a second later. "If you stayed with her voluntarily, I commend you."
"Uh, it was…" Spencer was naturally puzzled with the words. They seemed a little harsh, in his opinion.
Aitana rolled her eyes at the comment. "Don't mind him, he's extra rude when he comes home from work."
"I own a restaurant so I deal with a lot of people," Angel exhaled a heavy breath, his dark eyes widening as he probably thought of his day. "We had multiple big parties today, so..."
Spencer nodded. That sounded hectic and definitely not what he would want to do with his day. "I should get going," he said.
"What?" Aitana blinked in surprise. "But I said it was on! You can't leave once I say it's on!"
Spencer smiled at her. It was a whole other side he was seeing of her and it was very amusing.
"She is so competitive, don't mind her," Angel shook his head.
"I am not!"
"Right."
"It's fine, Aitana, you need to rest. Penelope really wants you to come back already." Spencer counted at least a dozen moments in which Penelope said those exact words. She had grown attached to Aitana working as co-liaison partners.
"Do you mean to tell me it's just Penelope who wants me back?" Aitana feigned offence. "Nobody else?"
"Of course we all want you back," Spencer amended his fault even if he didn't have any. "But to do that, you do need to rest."
Aitana sighed. "Fine, but you're not off the hook."
"God forbid you get off the hook," Angel reiterated with a small laugh to follow.
Aitana chose to ignore him. "Thanks for the books, Spencer. I'll take good care of them, I promise."
He had no doubt that she would. She was the most organized person in the team. "I'm glad they're helping with the boredom. I'll see you soon."
She nodded. "Yup!" If it was up to her, she'd already be back at the BAU.
"Bye." For some reason, Spencer left in a hasty manner like he was trying to get away. He was smart enough to know why but it was better to pretend to be confused. It saved him the embarrassment.
"I cannot believe you forced that poor guy to do a puzzle with you," Angel said as soon as they heard the front door close. "Seriously? Did you want to torture him like that?"
Aitana rolled her eyes as she finished placing the lid over her puzzle box. "Some people actually like doing puzzles and for your information, Spencer is one of them."
Angel snorted at the idea. "Why?" He headed for the kitchen cabinets.
"They're relaxing!"
"Not with you! Ten bucks says you got competitive with him." Angel paused to see Aitana's face and was more than pleased with himself to see her looking away with guilt. "I knew it." He snagged a glass from the cabinet and headed for the filter.
"It's not my fault," Aitana shrugged. "You and Mateo never wanted to do puzzles with me. I always did them by myself so now that I actually have a friend who likes to do puzzles, I want to keep my winning streak." Angel shook his head at her then drank water. "And I'm going to keep them, eidetic memory or not."
Angel snorted again, nearly choking on his water because of it. "It's not healthy to be that competitive, you know."
"It's fun." Aitana gathered her puzzle box and got out of her chair.
"You're going to run him off, you know!"
Aitana smirked. "Doubt it. He invited me to the movies Friday."
"Oh!" Angel barely made a face when Aitana added that it was a group invitation. It was nowhere near what he was thinking.
"There's a movie that Penelope wants to watch," Aitana said, shrugging her shoulders. "So there's your FYI. You better cook dinner yourself tonight."
Angel snorted then fully laughed. "When do you ever cook dinner for me!?"
Aitana rolled her eyes and decided to head upstairs for some relaxing reading. She did have something new to read after all.
~0~
On Friday, Aitana received an apology text from Penelope because they'd gotten a new case and their movie plans were unfortunately put on hold. Aitana sent back a response assuring her that she of course understood.
She spent the weekend moving around as much as she could without forcing herself too much. The idea was to slowly ease her body back to her old routine so she could finally go back to work.
She went around her room organizing her things. Her shelves had gathered dust from her bed rest days and her poor plants needed more of her attention. Even her fish tank downstairs got a well deserved cleaning. After she felt like her home was decent enough to live in, she got to reading the books Spencer let her borrow. He'd been so nice this whole recuperation time, letting her read from his personal shelves. She wasn't a big reader growing up, at least not out of her favorite subjects (space and marine life). And wouldn't you know it, the first book that Spencer let her borrow was a space fiction story. After that, Spencer started bringing her a few classics he thought she might like.
This time, it was Crime and Punishment. Aitana couldn't help her smile when she first saw the title. It turned out to be a book of moral dilemmas, reminding her of the trolley problem (which she would happily compare to when Spencer asked her about the book). It was fascinating and she couldn't wait to find out how it ended. She hoped to finish soon. She had an inkling fear that Spencer was too nice to tell her not to take too much time with his book. She learned well by now how he was with his things and she did not want to upset him by any means.
She was so deep into her book that she almost missed Penelope's text message on Sunday night.
Hey Sprinkles! I know it's a little late but I managed to convince the others to go to the movies! If you're interested, we can pick you up!
Aitana answered within the minute. Of course she was ready to go at any time. And even though she insisted on getting to the theater on her own, Penelope insisted that she should take it easy. Seaver would pick her up. And in an hour, Seaver was at her front step.
"You're going out?" Angel caught the pair unexpectedly just as they were getting ready to leave. "Kinda late, don't you think?"
"What are you? My mother?" Aitana playfully rolled her eyes.
"Well, I know Pamela wouldn't like it."
Seaver smiled at the pair. "It'll just be a movie," she assured Angel but Aitana scoffed.
"Please don't indulge him. He thinks he's so cool being an annoying big brother."
"It's a fun job," Angel said with a completely serious face. Seaver had to laugh.
"Goodbye!" Aitana ushered Seaver out so she could shut the door. "God I hate him sometimes!"
"He's funny," Seaver remarked on the way to her car. "I always wanted a sibling…"
"You want him?" Aitana gestured back to the house. "You can have him. Or Mateo, really. He's my other brother. Both of them are up for grabs, seriously."
Seaver laughed again. She unlocked the car so they could get in. "I just thought it would be fun having someone else in the house. A sibling would've made a big difference."
"I guess they would," Aitana would have to agree. As rowdy as her childhood had been with Mateo and Angel around, she couldn't fathom the idea of living as an only child. "It would be too quiet without them," she realized. "My house was always loud. Angel's my step brother so he wasn't always in our house. He came by every weekend but even then, it was still loud."
Seaver turned the ignition on and soon drove into the street. "You know my childhood," she said with a sigh. "It was so quiet at times. I could hear every little noise in the house."
"You didn't have friends over?" Aitana curiously asked. "I always had Elia over too."
Seaver shook her head. "Not a lot. My father didn't really like them coming over."
"Oh, sorry about that…"
Seaver didn't seem to think long about it. She had long ago learned to move past the troubles in her home.
"You're more than welcome to stop by my place anytime you want," Aitana promised, "As annoying as Angel is, he's actually really easy going. It's why we work as roommates."
"Looks like it," Seaver chuckled. "I've never met any pair of siblings willingly living together, honestly."
"Ah, well, there's a reason why we have this arrangement," Aitana admitted. "I, um, had a lot of trouble living by myself after coming out of WPP. My parents had been looking for a while to rent the house so they decided to let me rent it. And I know they didn't want to say it out loud but I knew that they didn't really trust me to live on my own yet. Angel offered to pay half the rent. I couldn't say no."
"I'm sorry about that too," Seaver said. "It's ironic how many different ways there are to ruin a person who's lived peacefully all their lives."
Aitana hummed in agreement. "I was different," she said. "I know that I'm better now but I also know that I will never be who I used to be, not with the things I saw and lived through."
"I can share that sentiment too," Seaver said and shared a small laugh with Aitana. "The things that my father did...I could never go back to being who I used to be before we found out what he was. And I tried…"
"Yeah, we always try," Aitana whispered, falling distant with the memories of her failed attempts to reintegrate into society after WPP. "I went through so many jobs within the FBI. The leniency they had with me...dear Lord."
"I changed my name," Seaver reminded lightly, exchanging a brief glance with Aitana. "I was naive for thinking I wouldn't have to do it. The stares that I used to get…"
Aitana sympathetically looked at the woman. That would have to be something hard to live with.

"They're parking," Penelope looked up from her phone to Morgan and Spencer. "We should start buying the tickets. Save Aitana the extra walk."
"Well, we could've avoided it altogether if someone had just postponed the plans for later," Morgan shot her a look. She was so eager, as usual, to go out even after what felt like the longest case.
"Shush," Penelope waved him off. "She's bored. And I want to see a movie!"
"Can't be that bored…" Morgan swayed his head in Spencer's direction, leaving the man little time to ready himself for the inevitable teasing, "Not when Pretty Boy over here is stopping by every night to see her." Penelope snickered between them.
"I am not!" Spencer frowned.
"But you have been several times," Morgan flashed him a smirk.
Spencer's eyes landed on Penelope, accusing her for all this. She should know better than to tell Morgan this kind of stuff. She had the decency to smile a little bashfully.
"So has Penelope, so has Seaver," he said as his genius defense.
"Yeah, but you're doing puzzles with her and lending her books…"
"Talking about fishes and space," Penelope decided to add, giggling when Spencer glared at her. "Oh c'mon, you guys talked for guys about her little space project for her fish tank! It was really cute!"
Spencer shook his head at the pair. It was all harmless talking and they knew it. He knew it. It was actually really fun getting to know more about Aitana's side projects at home. She was more in depth than anyone at the BAU would expect their liaison/profiler to be. For the past 7 months, she'd been thoroughly focused on healing and reintegrating, leaving very few moments to really get to know her. Now she was beginning to open up and she was turning out to be a very interesting person. She was huge on space and, by an odd extension, fishes. He even learned that she had been president of an astrology club in her old high school. She had more plants than she needed to, she was constantly on the hunt for new fishes for her tank, she liked to dance, and there was still much more to her. She was surprisingly competitive when it came to doing puzzles, though he should've seen that coming with her little playful point system with him. Her easy going nature provided for a comfortable atmosphere, a trusting atmosphere. It was easy talking to her and therefore spending time with her, even alone.
To say, she even made it a little easier to tell her more of the situation with his mother. He still felt guilty for lashing out at her on their last case and though she had every right to still be upset with him about it, she welcomed anything he wanted to talk about. Everything was nice, everything was easy. The last thing he needed was for it to shatter because of some incessant, baseless accusations. Everyone also seemed to conveniently forget that Aitana was very much in a relationship. That alone proved she was just a friend.
"Hey there Sprinkles," Penelope was the first to greet Aitana when she and Seaver joined them. They already had the tickets and were merely waiting for the group to be together.
"Hey," Aitana waved before hurriedly stuffing her hand into her pocket. She was a little cold. "You guys look like crap, no offence."
"Just because it's you, I'm going to let it go," Morgan sarcastically wagged a finger at her.
Aitana's small laugh was short but it appeared like she could laugh freely without feeling the pain of her wound now. "Spencer, still reading the book. Might hang onto it for a couple more days if that's alright."
"Take your time," he said. "And I always have more."
"Yeah, I'm sure you do," she nodded, chuckling.
"More space?" Morgan asked with a healthy tease smile.
"Don't diss it," Aitana waved him off. Penelope started leading the way into the theater. "You know I was president of my astronomy club in high school?"
"And that's supposed to be cool?"
"It sounds cool to me," Seaver said, earning a grateful 'thank you' from Aitana.
"I even got us a camping trip to see the constellations! We saw Ursa Major on the first night, then Cepheus and Cassiopeia the following nights!"
"What? No shooting stars?" Morgan reached for the entry door first to hold for the others.
"Unfortunately, nothing fell from the sky those three days," Aitana dramatically sighed.
"You know, it's estimated that 60 tons of debris falls from space each day into our atmosphere," Spencer remarked.
Aitana scrunched her face at the fact. "I think I would've seen it."
He smiled. "A lot of it is microscopic particles that burn up when they enter the atmosphere."
"Seriously?"
"Yeah, a lot of it ends up falling into the ocean."
"Those lucky fishes!"
Spencer laughed with her. From behind, Penelope nudged Morgan. She mouthed 'this is what I meant' to him, and consequently, Seaver. The two had a fairly amusing time understanding exactly what she meant.
~0~
"Unnecessary!" Penelope huffed as soon as they were out of the theater. Not even the chillier air could distract her from the deep disappointment of their movie. "There's too much blood and gore and eew!"
"Garcia, it's a slasher film," Spencer reminded her. "How do you do a slasher film without violence?"
"You imply it!"
"Baby, the movie is called "Slice 6." What were you expecting?" Morgan could barely hold his laugh for her sake.
"A refreshing beverage with a twist of comedy!?"
"That's what you got from the title?" Aitana made a face. "I would think the word 'slice' is a dead giveaway of what the genre was."
Penelope did not care for reason. "I'm gonna have nightmares for a week!"
"With everything that we do and see on a daily basis, that got to you?" Seaver had to ask because from a logical point, it didn't make sense.
"Listen, newbie, you may be all Sigourney Weaver ass-kicking tough, which is awesome, but the mystical mavens of innocence like myself jump at things that go bump in the night!"
"Why are you worried? I'm sure that Morgan will protect you," Spencer gestured to the man, though he added with a growing smirk: "As long as he's not jumping out of his chair like a prepubescent schoolgirl." The others snickered.
"The only reason I jumped is 'cause you guys woke me up," Morgan said.
"How could you sleep during that?" Aitana asked. Several people had screamed around them multiple times.
"Easy. They dragged me out after a 12-hour workday...for what? You telling me that girl didn't know that the unsub was waiting for her upstairs? Come on, now."
"Villain," Spencer corrected.
"What?"
"Villain. In movies, unsubs are called villains."
Morgan playfully rolled his eyes. "My bad."
"You want to know why horror movies are so successful?"
"Why is that, genius?"
"They prey on our instinctual need to survive. In tribal days, a woman's scream would signal danger and the men would return from hunting to protect their pack. That's why it's always the women and not the men who fall victim to the bogeyman."
"Count on you, Reid, to break a movie down to science," Seaver said with eyebrows raised. At this point, she shouldn't even be surprised.
"I don't know, if you ever meet my maternal grandmother, the boogeyman will seem scarier," Aitana said, causing an eruption of laughter from the group. "She's got a tough attitude if you cross her."
"Oh, so we know where you get it from then," Morgan smirked. "Spicy Sprinkles."
She rolled her eyes at him. She would keep in the fact her parents often said the same thing. He didn't need the extra ammunition.
"I actually like horror movies but I need to be mentally prepared for them," Penelope said, thankfully changing the topic. "My favorite thing about horror movies is the suspense factor."
"Ah, the ticking clock," Spencer hummed. "The helpless victim walks through the dark. Shadows reaching out to get her. A sudden noise draws her attention. Is someone there, or is it just in her head?"
"Still, it's totally unrealistic," Penelope said, "No one should be walking through a dark alley by themselves at night."
"Ahem, hello?" Morgan made a clear gesture to himself.
"Ah," Penelope immediately endeavored to fix her mistake, "No one should be walking through a dark alley without a Derek Morgan by their side."
"But the best part of a horror movie is you never know when the end is gonna come," Spencer said. Their movie had ended suddenly on them, leaving a big 'what if?' for the audience to leave with.
"Unfortunately, that's also how it goes in real life," Aitana said, folding her arms over her chest. She turned around to the group, smiling wryly at them. "And with that, I bid you all goodnight."
"Oh, what a lovely send off," Morgan remarked.
Aitana mocked a bow, almost losing it when Penelope exclaimed a sharp 'Oh my god!' and tried straightening her back up. "Your wound!" She reminded.
Aitana laughed. "Pen, I'm good. Doctor says that I'll be able to go back to work next Monday."
"That'll be good," Seaver nodded, "We really need you around."
"I'll be back, promise," Aitana raised a hand. "I can't wait, honestly."
"Well you take care of yourself," Penelope said, reaching over to close Aitana's coat. "We want you nice and healthy for Monday."
Aitana promised her that she would take care of herself. She was going crazy at home doing nothing. She couldn't wait to go back to work. She just hoped she didn't miss anything important in the meantime. She also hoped that the first case back would be an easier one to prove for sure that she was just fine.

That's Hollywood | The Deep End
Tumblr media
I've only ever posted links to my writing, but I'm feeling bold and wanted to share a part of the Spencer fic i've been writing. So, here is the second half of Chapter 6, The Deep End. Full story can be read on AO3, or Wattpad
Pairing: Spencer Reid/OFC (Ruby, an up and coming actress) Summary: Ruby convinces Spencer to join her in the pool by claiming she can keep her hands to herself, after he tells her the embarrassing story of getting pulled into a pool by Lila on a case a few years back. Category: Fluff Word count: 1,361 Warnings: None
"Want to join me for a swim?” I ask him and he bursts into laughter, a big smile taking up his face as he tries to control himself. “What? What’s so funny?”
“It’s just,” He giggles a little more while shaking his head. “There’s so much of this situation that reminds me of a case I worked here with another celebrity. And there was a bit of a pool incident that’s a little embarrassing to think back on.”
“Did you lose your swim suit in the pool?” I laugh.
“No, nothing like that.”
“What’s more embarrassing than that?” I ask and he shakes his head no, like he’s not going to tell me. “Come on, you can’t leave me hanging like this. I’ve got to know!”
He takes a deep breath and looks up to the sky with his eyes closed. He’s avoiding eye contact to make whatever he’s about to confess feel less awkward. But I keep watching him as he talks.
“She was care free, like you. And despite knowing there was a murderer who was potentially after her, she wanted to go for a swim. And then she tricked me, asked me to help pull her out but she ended up pulling me into the water with her. I had my gun on me and everything, but once I took it off and put it on the ledge, all of the sudden we were kissing.”
“Spencer!” I slap the water with a giggle. I can’t believe a conversation about his mom and then me asking him to go for a swim reminded him of a time when he made out with a girl in a pool. “That’s so scandalous. And definitely not something to be embarrassed about.”
“Morgan wouldn’t let me forget it. He even brought up her and that case when I told my colleagues about this assignment, because of the similarities.” He looks over at me now, and that’s definitely a blush I see on those cheeks.
“Is Morgan your friend?”
“Yeah, Derek Morgan. Best friend, colleague. Never lets me forget anything I do that’s even remotely embarrassing.” He looks away again, down to his notebook.
“Well, I don’t think it was that embarrassing, but I do still think that you should come swim with me. The waters great.”
“I’m not sure.”
“I won’t force you, but I promise I can keep my hands to myself, doctor.” His head snaps to look in my direction when I call him by his title and I smirk. “Go get changed and join me in the water. We can see who can hold their breath under the water the longest, or who can swim to the other side the fastest. Lot’s of other things to do in here besides make out.” I laugh.
The blush is definitely back on his cheeks at my comment, but he picks up his notebook and heads inside presumably to change. I start to wonder if I scared him off when I reach my fifth lap of the pool and he’s still not back outside. But when I come up for air after lap six I see him walking over.
My breath hitches as I watch him get closer and closer. It hadn’t occurred to me that I would be seeing him shirtless for the first time if he agreed to come into the pool. But here he is. In nothing but a pair of black swim shorts, his torso bare for anyone to see. I thought he was cute when I first saw him at the front door a week ago as he helped bring in our luggage, but this man is more than just cute, he’s gorgeous. All lean but strong, with muscles he’s been hiding behind all of his button down’s and vests. Shit, I shouldn’t be thinking this about the man I hired to protect me.
“What?” Spencer asks when he reaches the pool and I realize I’ve been staring.
“Hm? Oh, uh, nothing. Jump on in. Let’s get this competition started!”
There’s nothing graceful about the way Spencer all but falls into the pool and I laugh when he resurfaces. He pushes his long hair out of his face and swims to meet me where I’m standing at the shallow end. He stops in front of me then stands up, towering over me. His chest is right in front of my face now and I follow it to look up to his eyes, which are already looking down at me. The moment feels very charged between us, but it’s quickly broken when Spencer takes a step back and splashes me.
“Spencer!” I cover my face with my hands as he laughs and continues to splash me. When he lets up a little bit I make a move, reaching forward with the intention of grabbing his shoulders to push him under the water.
“Hands to yourself, Ruby. You promised.” He says with a laugh before I can get to him.
I change tactics and try to fight back by splashing as much water at him as I can. However it’s no match compared to him and his big hands and long arms.
“I surrender!” I yell when it gets to hard to breath through all the laughter and water being splashed at my face.
We take a break, chests heavy as we catch our breath and try to stop laughing. Spencer has his hands clasped behind his head as he looks up to the sun with his eyes closed, so I catch him off guard when I start to splash him again.
He breaks the rules about hands to yourself, pushing through the water I’m splashing at him to pick me up effortlessly with his hands on my waist. I have hardly enough time to scream with laughter before he throws me a couple feet away into the water.
“That’s against the rules, Spencer! Hands to yourself.” I laugh when I come up from the water, pushing hair out of my face so I can see him.
“Those are your rules, Ruby. You promised you would keep your hands to yourself, but I never said I would.” He smirks and starts to stalk towards me through water. He makes a grab at my shoulders, but I manage to slip away by ducking under with a squeak. I swim as fast as I can to the deep end, where it would be more of a challenge for him since he won’t be able to touch the bottom for stability.
The depth of the water does not deter him, though. All the ungracefulness he showed when falling into the pool is gone as he swims towards me with just a couple strokes. He does it so fast that I don’t have time to escape and he grabs my right ankle in his hand when I try to swim away. He uses his grip to pull me backwards towards him. Water rushes up my nose and it’s uncomfortable but I forget about it the second his hands are back on my waist and I’m held in front of him, unable to move.
I brace myself for him to throw me again, but instead he pulls me closer, face to face as we float. He’s breathing heavy and I watch his eyes dip lower on my face, towards my lips. I’ve never wanted to kiss anyone as much as I want to kiss him in this very moment.
Before either of us have gathered the courage to make a move, Jenna yells from inside, easily heard through the open sliding glass wall and it breaks the spell.
“Lunch is here!”
Spencer pulls away first. He swims to the side of the pool and pulls himself out with little effort. Then he turns around and holds his hand out for me to grab. When I’ve got my towel wrapped around my shoulders, Spencer speaks.
“I am kind of hungry. Worked up a bit of an appetite.” He says, but the look in his eyes are telling me he’s talking about a different kind of hunger. One that I think I might be feeling as well.
Thank you if you read it! Let me know what you think, reblog/like! And of course you can read the whole story with the links at the top. I'm posting weekly updates! I'm a little rusty with writing, but I hope you liked it!

I love this concept. And I’m gonna throw in a Spencer POV to spice things up.
Sorry this took so long! Hope you like it <3
——————————————————————————
Spencer’s POV
“Mornin’ Spence” I heard y/n’s voice coming from behind me. The voice that instantly makes me smile.
I turn around in my swivel chair to face her. I’m met with her beautiful smile and the familiar smell of vanilla.
“Good morning” I gave her an awkward smile as she was standing quite close to me. Not that I mind but it makes me nervous.
She leans on my desk, “How was your weekend?”
I cleared my throat and shifted in my seat, “Pretty boring. I read a five hundred page book in an hour though!”
He eyes widened in surprise; those beautiful eyes with her long eyelashes. “Wow! Was it good?”
“Not really” I shrugged. It made her laugh which in turn made me laugh. Her giggle always made my heart jump a little.
We stared at each other in silence, she looked like she wanted to say something but was hesitant to do so.
“So do you have any plans this Friday? Any six hundred page books you gotta read?” She bit her lip nervously. God those lips. What I would give to kiss them just once.
“I have a few but they can wait” was my attempt at a joke, she smiled. “What’s up?” I asked.
“There’s this high school talent show that’s gonna be open to the public. They do them every year and I heard they’re hilariously bad every time. I was wondering if you wanted to go with me”
I chuckled, “You wanna go make fun of high school kids?”
She said “Yes” with a chuckle as well. And I said “That’s so mean. Let’s do it” which resulted in us laughing uncontrollably. We received a few glares as we were being a bit loud.
Suddenly a guy I’ve never seen before walked in. That wasn’t strange, what was strange was that y/n’s initial reaction was to practically jump into his arms.
They hugged for a few seconds in a very lovey-dovey way. I immediately started to get insecure.
Y/n and I’s relationship is…complicated. For the longest time we’ve been stuck in between friends and more than friends and neither of us do anything about it. We often act and treat each other as more than friends but we can’t call ourselves anything but friends.
I’ve just always thought that I was special to her even if she didn’t have feelings for me the way I do for her. But after seeing this display of affection I’m not so sure.
“Oh hey, Spencer this is James! He’s a good friend from a while back. And—”
“So this is Spencer! Hey man it’s so nice to meet you.” He extended his arm to shake my hand but I declined. “Right right, y/n told me about you and she mentioned you don’t do handshakes, my bad” he was definitely friendly.
“She’s mentioned me?” Was the first thing that could come out of my mouth. Meanwhile I thought how she’d never mentioned him. Weird.
“Of course! I tell all my other friends about you guys” she jumped in.
The team. Of course she’s mentioned me, along with the rest of the team. I need to stop getting my hopes up.
“Let me introduce you to everyone else” she said to him and they walked off hand in hand. My heart sank.
I watched him interact with everyone else. He’s good looking, funny, friendly, talkative, totally not a nervous wreck. Everything I’m not.
“Man he is a fine specimen” I heard García say as she stood next to me, I didn’t look her way.
“What’s wrong?” she asked once she noticed I hadn’t stopped staring and y/n and James.
“Nothing. I’m, I’m fine” I said as I averted my gaze when they started walking back over to us.
Y/n came towards us with a big smile. “Hey so today’s a slow day and I wanted to take James over to the bakery down the block. You guys wanna join?”
“Sure!” García was quick to respond. She put a hand on my shoulder and added, “We’d love to”
I glared at her but y/n didn’t notice. She just said, “Great!” With a beaming look on her face. Spending time with James was worth it if I got to see that look.
~~~
I could hear Penelope talking James’s ear off back at the table while me and y/n were in line.
“So what do you think of James?” She nudged my arm with her elbow.
I have to lie. I hate lying to her but I’d hate more making her feel bad. “He seems like a neat guy” I cringed at my questionable choice of words.
She snorted, “Neat?”
“Yeah. Neat”
“You hate him”
I quickly turned to face her with panic in my eyes. “What? No I never said that”
She rolled her eyes, “You didn’t have to. I know you Spence”
“I swear I don’t hate him. I just have to get to know him better, that’s all” I assured her. I really didn’t wanna spoil her day, after all she is really excited to have him here. Besides I don’t wanna have to explain the reason why I hate him.
We got our coffee and pastries and went back to the table, where García was still talking on and on. Y/n went to sit next to him, but she was still directly in front of me. So I could see every smile towards him, every endearing look, every sweet touch. It was driving me crazy.
Of course she’s like that. She’s sweet and kind and friendly. But I can read his body language like an open book. He’s attracted to her; and he doesn’t see me as competition. Why would he?
That’s when I spotted it. He discretely placed his hand on her knee for a moment. It was almost completely unnoticeable, but I noticed it. I also noticed the way she became a bit flustered. This made me angry.
James started to go on and on about his job as a surgeon—of course he’s a surgeon—and all the crazy stories and lives he’s saved. Y/n and García were were lapping it up.
“Yeah if I had gotten there a minute later that man would’ve died. Good thing somebody thought to ask for a doctor” he boasted, feigning humility though.
“Wow that’s incredible—” García began to say, awestruck.
I bud in, “Actually with a stab wound to the leg chances are he probably could’ve held on long enough to get to the hospital. If the knife remained in the leg of course” I took a sip of my coffee nonchalantly.
He chuckled nervously, “Well yeah, of course. But at the time I didn’t know how long it’d been when I found him and I didn’t wanna take any chances. But hey you really know your stuff”
“I should hope so, I’m a doctor too. Times three actually” I did some boasting of my own and watched as the cocky expression fell off his face. I then noticed y/n’s irritated expression intensify.
“Whoa, does that mean you have—”
“Three phd’s? Yes”
Y/n quickly added, “Well it’s not like you can actually practice medicine. He just likes to know everything about everything”
What is her problem?
“Well I saved your life that one time didn’t I?” I snapped.
She glared at me. I had to hide a smirk behind my cup.
“Wait I haven’t heard this story” James seemed to be completely oblivious to what was going on, but he was intrigued nonetheless.
I winced, “Ooh sorry that’s actually classified information. Anywho I have to get back to the bureau; paperwork. See you guys later”
I quickly got up and walked out before y/n could get another word in because at that point I was fuming.
But I’m not really angry. Why should I be angry about them being attracted to each other? It makes a hell of a lot more sense than her being attracted to me.
I’m hurt. But I hurt myself by getting my hopes up.
And I’m annoyed. Annoyed that y/n acted that way with me. What was that even about?
~~~
About an hour later I see them arrive. Penelope says goodbye to James and heads to her cave. I can see y/n and James through the glass doors but I can’t hear what they’re saying.
I just sit there and watch as they talk and laugh together so naturally.
He stands with confidence. As I observe him I subconsciously straighten my own posture slightly. Maybe she doesn’t like men who slouch.
They say their goodbyes with one final hug and he leaves. She then turns slightly and spots me, I notice her tense up and flare her nostrils a bit.
She’s mad at me.
I decide to walk over to her, through the glass doors.
“What is your problem?” She immediately confronts me.
“What do you mean?” I play coy which only seems to irritate her more. Shit.
“You we’re being such a dick back there!”
“How was I being a dick?” We both start raising our voices.
“The way you treated James, how you felt the need to be a show off and make him feel bad. And I knew from the start you didn’t like him; for no good reason might I add!” She got red in the face which I have to admit is kinda cute but despite that she’s quite scary when she’s mad.
“I simply corrected him and stated the facts, I am a doctor. What I don’t get is why you had to come in and minimize that”
“Because you were being a dick!” She yelled out and we both realized the people on the other side of the doors could hear.
She spoke in a lower tone now, “Why don’t you like him? He was being so nice to you”
“Yeah of course he was. He doesn’t see me as a threat” I blurted, her brows were drawn together in confusion.
“What?”
I sighed. I might as well just say it at this point.
“He’s attracted to you, y/n. I could see it clear as day and he was being nice to me because obviously he doesn’t see me as a threat or competition by any means”
Y/n looked like the puzzle pieces were falling in place inside her mind. “Spence, is that what this is about? You’re jealous?” I saw the anger dissolve from her face and be replaced with concern.
I looked down at my feet, “How can I be jealous with someone who isn’t mine? It just sucked to see you with him. He’s handsome and confident and you two get along so well and he makes you smile. And of course he’d be attracted to you, who wouldn’t be?”
Y/n stepped closer and took my hand to stop my rambling, “Spence, slow down” she giggled, it made me smile.
“You’re overthinking this way too much. What makes you think I like him back?”
I shrugged, still not meeting her gaze. She put her finger under my chin and gently forced me to look at her.
“I think the better question is what makes you think I wouldn’t like you?” She smiled.
“You like me?” I felt myself start to blush.
“Yeah dummy! I thought it was obvious. You know for a genius you can be a bit of an idiot sometimes” we both laughed.
“I guess I find it hard to believe” I admitted bashfully.
She placed her hand on my cheek, “Spencer you’re an amazing guy. You’re kind, caring, thoughtful, incredibly handsome, funny, you’re always making me smile; way more than James ever does. And I like you just the way you are, awkwardness and all. ” she gave my cheek a few soft taps and we laughed again.
“I thought it was obvious I’m crazy for you too” I said.
“Well, I kinda figured. You’re not very discreet” she teased and I pushed her playfully which made her giggle. God I love that giggle.
“You know what?” I walked over to the elevators and pressed the button.
“What are you doing?” She asked. Once the doors opened I grabbed her hand and pulled her in.
She was still confused when the doors closed and I pulled her in for a kiss. It was the boldest thing I’ve ever done, but she gave me the confidence to do it.
And boy was it worth it. My whole face tingled as our lips connected. Her lips felt even better than I ever imagined. She melted into my arms and I could smell that familiar vanilla scent once again.
Her arms wrapped around my neck and I tightened my grip around her waist. She felt warm and soft. She felt safe. I wanted to hold her like this forever.
Our lips parted but my eyes wouldn’t open, I was in pure bliss in that moment. I heard her giggle an get on her tippy toes to kiss both my eyelids.
I opened my eyes to find her smiling at me. That smile that forced me to smile because it was so damn contagious.
“I think we can add good kisser to the list of reasons why I like you” she whispered in my ear and we laughed together.
Take that, James.

Sophie and Aaron come up with a plan to show him how much he means to them. Collection: Part 4 of 5 of Present, Perfect, Patient, Promise, Pretend series Note: This is a previously published work from A03, just moving it over to tumblr. Link to A03 or read below! For the last couple of weeks, Spencer has almost exclusively been staying the night at Aaron and Sophie’s. The three of them arrive at work together every day, go to lunch together every day, leave together every day, and no one has commented on that or found it strange in any way. He’s honestly a little disappointed; he’s happy, in love, and this is arguably the best time of his life, stuff he would most like to share with other people, but they either don’t notice or simply don’t care. It's frustrating.
He wears one of Aaron’s ties to work on a Friday, because he’d been in such a hurry to throw some clothes into his bag during a rare pit stop to his apartment that he didn’t grab enough, and he figured no one would notice, since they haven’t noticed anything else up to this point.
However…
“Hey. Hotch has a tie just like that, doesn’t he?” Garcia asks when he’s down in her cave looking over some age progression renderings she made for him. He looks down, runs his fingers over it, shrugs.
“Does he? I didn’t realize.” She sweeps her gaze over his face, tilts her head like she’s trying to figure him out, but ultimately, she just smiles.
“Maybe not. I see a lot of ties around here, you know? Anyway, see how…”
Later that day, he takes some case files up to Aaron’s office—purely for make out purposes—and they’re kissing pretty hot and heavy when Aaron slips his fingers around the knot of his tie and twists it, so it tightens around the base of his throat. He moans, a little startled, and very turned on, and Aaron hums against his lips.
“So fucking gorgeous when you wear my clothes, Spencer, but especially this. It’s so tempting, draws my attention right to your pretty throat.” His lips move there, brushing tenderly up the side, and he bites down gently, not enough to leave a mark, but enough that he feels it in his dick. “If I had my way, you’d be constantly covered in bruises here. Everyone would look at you and know you belong to someone.” Spencer licks his lips, exhales deeply.
“I wish you could,” he murmurs, sliding his fingers through the hair at the back of Aaron’s head. “Maybe—maybe just one?” He’s lightheaded at the thought, both of having Aaron’s hot mouth tease a bruise there and of being seen for the desperate, needy slut he is. Of the whole team, the whole office, the whole world knowing he is taken, happily, regularly, by not one but two beautiful human beings.
Aaron presses his hand against Spencer’s cock, which is extremely hard, giving away all of his secrets, and he huffs against his throat.
“Yeah. You want me to suck and bite your neck until you’re purple and aching, and then you want to walk right downstairs and show it off, don’t you? No doubts about who gave it to you, about who your daddy is. About who you belong to.” He nods, breathing heavily.
“Yes. I want them to see, I want them to know.” Aaron walks him back so he’s leaning against the edge of the desk, and he runs his hands slowly up and down Spencer’s body, brushing his lips so softly over his throat. It feels good, but it’s not what he wants, and Aaron knows it, the tease.
He shifts his hips, rubs against Aaron for friction, and when he finds his cock he gasps, fists his hand into Aaron’s jacket. He lifts his leg, pressing against Aaron’s thigh, and gets them to line up beside each other, sliding easily due to the fabric of their suit pants.
“Oh, fuck, Spencer,” he groans, hands falling to the desk on either side of his body. “Needy boy.” He tugs down the collar of his shirt a little more, bites down hard at the base of this throat, and Spencer moans, clutches at him, rubbing frantically.
Aaron’s mouth is hard, sucking deeply, and Spencer knows that what he’s doing is actually breaking blood vessels beneath his skin, but it feels like he’s sucking the life out of him, leaving him dizzy and achy and desperate for release. He twists his fingers in Aaron’s hair, tight, and humps his hips up against his hard body, his hard cock, and he comes so powerfully he sees stars, panting and shaking through it until he leans his weight back against the desk, his energy depleted.
Aaron pulls back, looks at him with dark, lustful eyes, and bends for a hot, wet kiss.
“Perfect, beautiful boy,” he rasps when the kiss breaks, and he unclasps his belt, takes out his cock, looks down at Spencer’s mouth; it’s all he needs to do to get Spencer on his knees, and he’s sure he looks filthy—his face is hot, and his collar is still loose, with what must be a huge, dark hickey blooming there—because it only takes a few seconds for Aaron to spill down his throat, his hand under Spencer’s chin while he swallows him down.
He helps him to his feet, and they kiss, work to right each other’s clothes and hair even though Spencer feels like his face is the real problem—his eyes half-lidded, his mouth slack and his tongue peeking out the way it always does when he’s satisfied. Aaron looks at him affectionately, probably at the dopey look he’s so capable of putting on his face, and he kisses him again, softer, then brushes his lips over his nose.
“I love you. Want me to come down and make you a tea?” he asks softly, so sweet, but Spencer just shakes his head, swallows.
“No, that’s okay. I know you’re busy, and I’ve taken up enough of your time.” Aaron sighs, sweeps a hand gently over his cheek.
“My time is your time. You’ve taken nothing I didn’t want to give.” He kisses him fully on the mouth, and Spencer hums happily against his lips. “Is there anything I can do for you before you head back to work? Or, I guess you should probably head to the bathroom first, to get cleaned up,” he amends, and he looks down at Spencer’s crotch like he would prefer to clean it up himself, slowly, with his tongue. Spencer shakes his head.
“No, thank you. I’m really alright. I love you,” he murmurs, kissing his lips, “and I’ll see you soon.”
“See you soon.” Spencer slips past him, out the door, and when he’s done cleaning up in the bathroom, he looks at himself in the mirror; he thinks he looks wrecked, debauched, but maybe that’s only because he knows that he is. He pulls down his collar, looks at the huge, dark, angry bruise Aaron left, smiles, and covers it back up.
Mostly.
When he takes his seat, Sophie looks up at him, sweeps her eyes over his face, his throat, and he can see her breath pick up. God, she’s so easy to get going, it’s not even fair. She makes eye contact, swallows, looks up at Aaron’s office, and then stands, locks her computer, and heads upstairs.
About ten minutes later, she’s back; he looks up at her, and because he looks at her so much, he notices all the little things that have changed—her hair, previously falling in voluminous waves, looks a little flat, and her chest is red, flushed, and when she logs back into her computer, he notices the edge of a purple bruise on the soft spot between her neck and shoulder, barely concealed by the white v-neck t-shirt she wears. She meets his eyes, sweeps her tongue over her lips, and buries herself in work.
He’s hard, again.
No one notices, again. They take a case in Orlando, a serial killer case like many before it, nothing so out of the ordinary that anyone should be particularly on edge, but Spencer is, and Sophie can’t figure out why. He’s retreated into himself, not as talkative, and snippy, when he does speak, so she doesn’t start the car right away when they climb in, hopes for a little partner/girlfriend heart to heart before they go canvassing for leads.
“Spencer. Hey,” she says softly, pressing her hand to his cheek when he won’t make eye contact. “Baby, what’s going on? You’ve been distant all day. I’m worried about you.” He presses his face against her palm, looks up at her with sad eyes.
“I hate when we’re on a case, and I know that you and Aaron will get to sleep together, and I’m stuck in my room by myself, all alone.” She sighs, because that can’t be all it is, but it makes her heart hurt anyway.
“Is that the only thing bothering you?”
“It’s not just that, it’s the bigger picture. You two are… out, for lack of a better word. People see you, they know you’re together, they know you’re in love. I feel like the third wheel, sometimes. People don’t know that I mean anything to either of you. They don’t know I love you, or that you love me, that we…” He shakes his head, presses his lips together like he wants to cry. “That when the three of us make love, I feel like the man I’m supposed to be. That I feel really seen for the first time in my life.” She puts her other hand on the side of his face, brings him closer for a slow, loving kiss, breathes against his lips.
“I’m sorry, honey. You’re right, none of that is fair to you, and we haven’t been very thoughtful or attentive to your needs around this. I promise things will change. I don’t know how, exactly… It’s complicated, I know you know that. But you deserve to be just as seen as Aaron and I are, so we’ll find a way to make it work.” She rests her nose against his, softly kisses his lips. “I love you so much, Spencer, and so does Aaron. You aren’t a third wheel, we’re all equal.” He nods against her cheek.
“I know, I do, and I love you both so much. I don’t want to make your lives harder, but I want more. I need more.” She pulls back, brushes her fingers through his hair, runs a soothing hand over his arm.
“Of course you do, and we want that too. You’re not asking for anything we shouldn’t have already given you.” She feels guilt like a pit in her stomach at the fact that they didn’t think of this, try to get ahead of it. Poor Spencer. “It will work out, baby, I promise. We’ll find a way. And I’ll sleep in your room tonight,” she adds, knowing it’s a small comfort, but she hopes it makes him feel better until they can make the big things right. “I’ve slept in your room before, when things were hard, it’s not like it’s a big deal.” He closes his eyes, nods tightly.
“Right. No one needs to know.” She frowns, because that’s not what she meant, but he pulls back, buckles up his seatbelt, and she does the same, at a loss for what she can do in the meantime to make him feel seen.
When she’s in Aaron’s room that night, getting ready to duck into Spencer’s, she has an idea, runs it by him. His face abruptly goes serious, dark, and he takes her face in his hands, kisses her roughly.
“Are you sure? Anyone could see—it’s not like we’re in a low-traffic city,” he warns, but she nods. She’s pretty sure, after talking to both of them, that this is something that Spencer would enjoy, that would maybe make him feel a little bit better about it all. She wants to do it.
“Yeah. We’re the only ones on this side of the hall, so I figure that’s as safe as we’ll get, in terms of the team, and… I’m okay, with anyone else. If it will make him happy.” She grips the hair at the back of his head, presses their foreheads together. “You’ll be there for me, right?”
“I promise,” he murmurs, caressing her face, and she sighs against his lips.
“Thank you. I love you.” He says it back, kisses her, and she takes a step back, grabs her stuff, walks to the door. “I’ll text you, let you know when we’re ready.”
“Okay. Remember your words. Use them if you need them.” She nods, leaves the room, knocks lightly on Spencer’s door.
“Hey, honey,” she greets, and he steps aside, takes her bag, closes the door behind them. She pulls him down for a gentle, slow kiss, smooths her hands over his body like she’s trying to commit him to memory. “Hmm. How are you doing?”
“I’m okay,” he says with a soft smile. “I was thinking about earlier, in the car, and I wasn’t fair. It makes sense that people can’t know until we figure things out; I shouldn’t have been so harsh with you.” She thanks the heavens above for the perfect segue, because she’d been struggling with a way to explain her idea without sounding like a babbling, horny idiot.
“It makes sense that the team can’t know,” she corrects, and she leans up for another kiss. “Or people we work with. But other people, people we don’t know, that would be fine, right?” He tilts his head, looks a little confused by her question.
“What do you mean? Like, if we went on a date together? And people saw us?” She nods a little.
“Yeah, something like that. Or even… you know. If people saw you kissing me, or they saw us having sex. That would be okay, wouldn’t it?” Her heart is racing, and his breathing picks up, she can tell; she can tell her words affect him just by the set of his mouth, the way his hands move to her hips and tighten there. It’s so fucking hot.
“Yeah, yeah. That would be okay. Would that be okay with you?” Aaron was right then, when he’d suggested that their boy might be harboring a hidden exhibitionism kink; she smiles, pleased, proud of their man for noticing.
“It would be okay with me,” she murmurs, pressing her lips to his. “There’s a chaise couch thingy on the balcony out there. I thought maybe you and I could put on a show for Aaron; and if someone else is out on their balcony, and they happen to see us, all the better. They’ll see how horny you make me, how hard and loud I come for you. How much I love you, need you, want you.” Her last words are spoken directly into his ear, and he shivers, lifts her up and presses her back against the wall.
“Fuck. Yeah, I want to.” His mouth moves frantically over her throat, his hands on her back, and he makes sure she’s supported before moving to pull her shirt over her head, so he can kiss and lick and squeeze her exposed tits. “Oh, god.”
“Yeah, Spencer. I can’t wait to feel you, to show the world what you mean to me. What you do to me.” He’s panting, and he puts his hands on her again, moves them to the bed, lays her back on it.
“Sophie, so good for me, always giving me so much. Always pleasing me, always.” She tips her head back, moans, and when he drags her pants down her legs, then her panties, she sighs, horny, happy, pleased. A little nervous. But she wants to do this for him more than anything.
“Let me text Aaron real quick,” she says, but she pulls his shirt off first, pushes down his pants and boxers, wants to see him, feel him. He hands her her phone, and her fingers are trembling a little as she types out the text.
Showtime.
Spencer is, of course, as sweet and kind and sexy as ever, when he lays her naked body back on the chaise, which is directly across from Aaron’s balcony. He looks into her eyes, makes sure she’s okay, and she nods, a signal to begin.
They very mindfully keep their eyes on each other, don’t pause to try to seek out Aaron—she knows he’s there, even though it’s dark, because he said he’d be—or to check for anyone else. They both decided it would be better that way.
Both hands cover her breasts, rubbing slow circles, stimulating her nipples, and she moans softly, letting her head fall back, moving her arms up on either side of it. He kisses her mouth tenderly, then trails his lips down her throat, between her breasts, down her stomach; he dips his head low, takes a gentle taste of her slick, throbbing pussy, and then one of his hands leaves her chest to press open her thigh, giving himself more room to work.
“So fucking beautiful. Wet and open—you really want me, don’t you, sweet girl?” His voice is a little louder than it would normally be, and she quickly realizes he wants to make sure it carries over to Aaron, so he can hear them as well. She tries to remember to be really loud, even though it goes against her instincts.
“Oh, yes.” He spreads his fingers where they rest on her tit, then pushes it up, harder, and she moans. “Mmmh, yeah.”
“So perfect for me. Horny, slutty, gorgeous girl for daddy.” She snaps her eyes shut, bites into her bottom lip; she hadn’t counted on him bringing out the daddy tonight, while they’re doing this. It makes her feel dirty, and extremely aroused.
“Yes, daddy. I’m so horny, s-so slutty,” she stumbles when he slides his tongue between her lips, then up over her aching clit. “Oh, god, yes. Yes, daddy.”
He takes his time, goes slowly, slips his tongue through her folds, nibbles them with careful teeth, and she is just a mass of flesh and nerve endings sinking into the sofa, squirming under his hands, whimpering and moaning at his every lick, touch. It feels like everything is moving in slow motion except her heart, her heaving chest, and her brain is already deliciously empty, like static on a broken television—it’s either her mind’s way of protecting her from the anxiety she knows she should be feeling at being this exposed, doing something so, so illegal and filthy and wrong, or it’s just Spencer.
She thinks it might actually be just Spencer.
He looks up at her from between her legs, so gorgeous, flushed, turned on, and he presses two fingers into her open mouth, which only makes her sink deeper into the place that’s all pleasure and need and wanting to please him. He pumps them into her mouth a few times, then pulls them out and sinks them deep into her pussy, making her arch and sigh.
“There you go, baby, that’s it,” he praises, dragging them in and out, in and out, in and out. He leans in to press the point of his tongue against her clit, divine sensation right where she wants it, and she comes around his fingers, moaning and gripping the edge of the cushion in her hands. “That’s a good girl. Good girl.” He shifts up, moves his hand up her body, slips his wet fingers back into her mouth so she’ll suck them clean.
She’s never felt so good in her entire fucking life. Aaron has been trying to resist shoving a hand into his boxers and jerking himself off, but his willpower is wearing thin.
Watching Spencer bring Sophie off with his mouth and his hands was... stimulating to say the least; she dropped into subspace so quickly and completely, he could see it from even a balcony away. Spencer is getting better and better at dominating her every day, better than him, even, because he has a refinement, a subtle nuance, that Aaron hasn’t found on his own quite yet.
It’s when he fucks her, though, that Aaron starts to lose his resolve. Maybe it’s because he’s truly just a spectator for the first time in their relationship, or maybe it’s because he knows—even if they don’t—that they’ve amassed a small audience, but he spreads his legs, rubs his hand over the bulge in his boxers, tries to keep breathing.
The tie thing is a tease, just truly unfair.
Before Spencer pushes into her, he reaches a hand down, pulls out a tie—one of Aaron’s, the one Spencer had worn to the office the day he’d marked him—and wraps it around Sophie’s wrists, knotting it tightly to keep her hands together, and he tucks it into the arm of the chaise so she’ll keep them above her head. She doesn’t make a sound, just stares up at him, subservient and willing, and it makes Aaron’s head spin. He can’t imagine what it does to Spencer.
With a couple of kisses, he’s inside her, up on his knees, his hands on her hips, and she wraps her thighs around his waist, lifts her ass up, and lets him pound inside.
“Oh, daddy. Fuck me,” she moans, and he licks his lips, pulls her against him with each thrust so he’s deep, fully sheathed inside her. “Yeah, just like that. All the way inside me. Tight, but I love it,” she pants, and he squeezes his eyes shut—so he won’t come, Aaron knows.
“Yes you do. Such a good little slut for daddy, taking my big cock even though it's tight. Your pussy’s mine, and I take what I want, don’t I?”
“God, yes. Take it, take it,” she mutters, and Spencer slowly brings his hands up to cover her throat, because she needs grounding and they can both tell. He slides his hands up and down her throat, not choking, just rubbing her there, and she moans, a wrecked and dirty sound. “Will you come inside me, daddy? Fill me up? Can I sleep with it inside me?” Aaron swallows hard, puts his hand in his pants and starts jerking his swollen, leaking cock. Spencer hums.
“Yes, baby, I’ll fill you with come. You can sleep with it. Maybe I’ll wake up in the night, stiff, and pump some more into you while you sleep. Would you like that?” She moans, bucks hard against him, nods.
“Yes, daddy. I’ll take whatever you give me. You do what you want to me. I’m just your pussy, just here for you to use. Use me.” He thrusts into her faster, his hands tight on her hips again, and he comes, snapping his body hard against hers.
Aaron knows he gets quickly spent and tired, but he jackhammers his cock into her a dozen times anyway, determined, and she comes calling Spencer, her hips stuttering against his until they both slow and settle. Aaron comes too, just a quiet grunt followed by a long, satisfied sigh.
Spencer unties her arms, kisses her wrists, and picks her up; it’s easy, because he’s still inside her, and her legs are still around him. A couple of people applaud and whistle from a balcony above, and Sophie tucks her face into Spencer’s neck, wraps her arms around him, and they go inside.
The two of you are incredible, he texts Spencer when he goes inside as well. I love you both so much. So perfect, so beautiful. Take care of each other.
We love you, too. I think tomorrow, you two should let me watch.
Aaron closes his eyes, exhales long, climbs into bed.
The next day, they somehow manage to work together as if nothing happened the night before, as if his two perfect partners didn’t fuck in front of a live audience, as if he didn’t bring himself off in public as a result.
It’s enough to keep him in a state of passive arousal all day, and he hopes and prays it’s not enough to give him an erection, because he doesn’t have time for it.
That night, though, is another story entirely.
Roles are reversed, as requested; Spencer sits on his balcony, in the dark, but they don’t look toward him, just the way he and Sophie didn’t look for Aaron. She said it helped, and he wants to keep her as comfortable as possible, knows this is a lot.
Aaron lays back on the chaise, and he gently palms Sophie’s head as she holds his hips, kisses and licks his dick; he knows she’ll fall hard sucking him off like this, and he liked how submissive she was for Spencer yesterday, would like to get her there himself too.
“Hmm. Good girl, baby,” he hums, brushing back her hair; she’d run her tongue over him all night if he let her, and it would get him off, too, but he wants to make it good for Spencer, so he reaches down and lifts his cock, guides her mouth down onto it.
She moans on him, wraps her hand around the base, presses her lips tight and bobs her head, slow and steady, and he tips his head back, rubs her arms, encouraging the treatment.
“Yes, baby, suck on daddy’s cock. You’re always best with your mouth full, aren’t you, my sweet, slutty girl?” She hums around him, shifts so she can get a hand between her legs, which is his absolute favorite, and moves faster, her hand and her mouth together, wet and hot, enough to make his eyes roll back in his head. He knows he won’t last long if she keeps that up, lets them both enjoy it for a moment before putting his hands on her cheeks and pulling her off gently. “Enough of that; climb up for daddy,” he instructs, and she slinks up his body, presses her mouth to his for a heated, eager kiss.
It lasts a while, because she feels so good, tastes so good, like him, and then they separate, panting against each other. “How do you want me, daddy?” He sits up, runs a hand up her body, and then guides her to sit back on his dick, making them both gasp. “Hmm, yeah. Thank you, daddy,” she murmurs, and she presses her hands against his chest and starts to move atop him.
She’s perfect, as always, fucking quickly, slamming into his thrusts, and one hand falls back to steady herself against his thigh; her chest is flushed and red, nipples hard, and he can’t resist, has to lean in and suck one into his mouth, roll it around on his tongue.
“Oh, fuck, mmm,” she sighs, wrapping her hand around the back of his head and holding him close. “You know my body so well because it’s yours, daddy. Yours to use, to fuck, to come inside.” He releases her breast and stares up at her, her breathing hard, her mouth open in a silent moan. She’s gorgeous, unabashed, riding his cock like she was made for it; he knows Spencer has to be touching himself as he watches her body work, her hips roll against him.
It’s relatively quiet, and he hears someone mutter, same girl, different guy, and he’s forced to really think about this for a moment, what they’re doing, the kind of line they’ve crossed. He wonders if this will be something done once, remembered fondly but out of their systems for good, or something they’ll need, will have to learn to navigate around safely, healthily. He thinks about how different it is for her, as a woman, compared to how it is for them as men.
She either feels none of the same apprehension or simply hides it well, because she only bounces harder against his thighs until she comes whimpering his name. He groans, puts his hands on her ass and squeezes it, urging her to keep going until the sensitivity passes, not to stop or slow. She knows what to do—another voice says riding it like a champ—just tosses her hair over her shoulder, scrapes her nails through the hair on his chest, moans long and loud.
“Mmm, yes, daddy, thank you daddy. Thank you for not letting me stop—I’m just here for you to use, to take your come. I’m your slut.”
“Yes, baby girl, you are a slut for daddy. You live to be fucked hard, destroyed by me. By us.” It’s the only time they’ve acknowledged Spencer, and Aaron can hear a faint groan coming from his direction. “One man is not enough for a needy, desperate slut like you. You need two. Separately, together—you belong to us both.” She runs a hand through her hair, bucks hard against him, reaches down to rub at her clit again; god, if she comes on his cock twice he’s going to fucking lose it.
“Yes, yes, yes,” she chants, and he leans up again, bites down on her nipple, and she cries out in pleasure, digs her nails into his chest, and comes again. He puts both hands hard on her hips, forces her down onto his cock a handful of times and then comes as well, pumping into her tight channel with a groan.
She pants, catches his mouth in a bruising kiss, and he gets her into the bedroom, lays her back on the bed, and watches her body move as she works to catch her breath, still shivering with aftershocks, clamping down tight around his cock. She touches his face, his hair, and he only pulls out when he hears a light but insistent knock on the door.
“It’s Spencer, baby, I’ll be right back,” he promises, kissing her, and when he opens the door Spencer flies in, grabs him hard, kisses him, then makes his way to Sophie; he touches her softly, stroking her hair, whispering words of praise until she’s shaking and the only thing that will soothe her is his arms wrapping around her, holding her close.
It’s the first time he actually notices how differently she sees them, as their sub. Aaron is the one who makes rules, gives orders, disciplines and corrects, and Spencer is softer, earning obedience with his actions more than his words. Aaron pushes her, overwhelms her, and Spencer is the one who helps her through when she’s overwhelmed, and it’s why this works, why it works when he’s dominating Spencer, too. There’s no clashing of personalities, it’s all complementary, all necessary. All important.
He has to find a way to make this right. “Strauss was… confused, to say the least,” Aaron explains to them at dinner a few nights later. “And I could tell she thinks I’m just a couple more twenty-somethings away from being a cult leader or something,” he says—only half joking, Sophie can tell, “but she knows, now. All that’s left is to tell the team, and then live with whatever repercussions may come.” She reaches out for both of their hands, squeezes them.
“Well, the team was okay with us when we disclosed, and this is a little more unconventional, but we know them. I don’t think we’ll have a problem. If anyone else has one, that’s beyond our control. It doesn’t say anything about us; people have always found a reason to dislike something different just because it’s different.” She glances at Spencer, who is looking so soft, pleased, that she doesn’t know how they didn’t see the signs before. He’s like a whole new person, now, their person.
"One more thing," Aaron says, and he's looking at the both of them, his face sweet and loving too. He crosses the room, opens a drawer, pulls out two small jewelry boxes and sets one in front of each of them. He crouches between them. "I know it might seem a little soon, but this isn't anything serious, just a reminder, a promise. I don't ever want either of you to feel like we aren't all equal here: equally valued, equally important, equally loved." Sophie opens hers—a delicate gold band with a small diamond in the middle—and Aaron pulls a third out of his pocket, thicker, simple, just gold, identical to the one Spencer opens. "Please don't ever think you can't talk to me when something is bothering you, and don't ever forget that I love you."
She leans over, kisses him, kisses Spencer, and they kiss each other, and the night gets away from them and they have sex in so many different positions and combinations it’s like Twister, but everyone feels fulfilled when they drift off to sleep, and that’s the most important thing.
Telling the team is… interesting, to say the least.
“Okay, thanks for letting us know,” JJ says, nodding, and Aaron, Spencer, and Sophie just look at each other where they stand. Spencer frowns, confused.
“What do you mean, ‘thanks for letting us know’? That’s it?” Morgan crosses his hands behind his head.
“Yeah. We’ve known for a while, but this is like you guys coming out, as bi or pan or whatever you two are,” he says, gesturing to the guys, “and then as like… what’s the word, baby girl?” he asks Garcia, and she waves her feathered pen at the three of them.
“Throuple. It’s like a couple, but, you know, three.” She smiles kindly.
“You knew,” Spencer repeats, and Sophie glances at Aaron, shoots him an indulgent smile. “You knew, all along?”
“Since the day you guys had your ‘partner evaluations,’” Prentiss admits with a teasing tone. “You two are extremely obvious. It’s like you can’t get laid without looking like two blushing, giggling little school girls after. So not sneaky.”
“I literally saw you two making out at Rossi’s party,” JJ says with a laugh. “I was going to tell Hotch I thought you were cheating on him, but Garcia convinced me not to. She was on to your whole thing before any of us.”
“Why didn’t you say anything?” Spencer asks, looking like he’s about to pull his hair out. Sophie knows he’d been so upset he couldn’t share their relationship with anyone, and they knew for most, if not all of it, so he’s understandably kind of losing it.
“What were we supposed to do? Order a cake and make you a banner that said, ‘Congrats on the threesome!’?” Prentiss jokes, and Garcia leans back in her chair to look at her.
“Throuple.” Prentiss waves her hand, accepts the correction, and Sophie reaches out for Spencer, smooths her hand over his back, presses her nose to his shoulder.
“Okay, well I think this turned out well. Let’s go make a cup of tea, baby,” she murmurs, and Spencer lets himself be led away, muttering about stupid friends that drive me crazy. Aaron follows behind them, presses his hand to her lower back, and Sophie sighs, content.

Emily shot Reid a knowing look as she stepped through the door before turning her head slightly to watch the nurse shuffle down the corridor. She was pretty, that much was for certain and she knew Reid thought so, too. She took a seat by his bed, dropping the bag to the floor. She had just gotten back from his apartment, finally having had the time to collect the things he’d asked for earlier that same morning. She decided not to comment on the nurse any further as the three of them went back to work, trying to piece together a profile with the mess of details they had.
“What if we’re looking for two unsubs?” The first break came about an hour after Emily had returned to Reid’s room and they all peaked up at Rossi’s suggestion.
“What makes you say that?” Morgan’s voice sounded through Garcia’s phone now and Emily wondered the same thing.
“Look at the bruisings around Anita Thorne’s throat. That’s pretty large hands, don’t you think? Probably from a man. But the stabwounds on Gomez’ body were hesitant and shallow, not a lot of force behind them,” Rossi explained his thinking and Emily followed easily while she flipped through her files.
“So, you’re thinking whoever killed Gomez was a woman?” J.J. spoke up this time. Morgan didn’t even give Rossi time to answer.
“But the stabbing was all over the place and brutal. It was overkill. Do you really think a woman would be capable of doing that?”
“Maybe our unsub was hesitant about killing Gomez? Not knowing what to do or how to do it correctly? Maybe he was trying to establish a MO?” Reid spoke up now and his words surprised Emily. Anita Thorne had been killed a week and half before Gomez, so if the unsub was the same person then he was definitely accustomed to killing. It made no sense for him to brutally strangle Thorne, then hesitate when it came to Gomez. Unless there was a connection between Gomez and the unsub which they hadn’t made yet. That seemed unlikely since there was no sign of the unsub’s remorse anywhere on the body or at the crimescene. It didn’t feel personal.
Emily voiced her thoughts and the team agreed with her. She got a little concerned about Reid. He seemed to have gotten confused by such a simple thing as the timelines of the different victims. That was the kind of mistake Reid would never do. She was afraid he wasn’t in the right headspace to be working this case, but she didn’t speak her concern just yet.
“Typically in a killer-duo one part to be more dominant and the other more submissive. We shouldn’t assume that the female is the submissive one just because she’s the weaker sex. In fact we should assume the opposite, especially if we still regard our previous theory that at least one of them has some sort of medicaltraining. Healthcare is widely dominated by females after all,” Reid rambled on in his usual manner, but something still seemed… Off about him. Like he was trying to hide his privous slip up.
“So, you think we’re looking for a man and woman, and that the woman is the dominant person here?” Rossi asked.
“Well, it wouldn’t be the first time. In traditional gender roles the man is depicted as the dominant type, when it in reality is the female who holds all the power. She controlls access to sex, decides what’s for dinner, has the most influence over the kids… Even though men typically are physically stronger than women, it’s still the women who control them, so I wouldn’t say it’s odd,” Reid explained further and by the way he was fiddling in the bed Emily could tell he had a lot more to say on the matter.
“Well, it fits,” J.J. butted in. “If the woman is dominant we can only assume she decides who gets to live and who doesn’t.”
“But how does she decide that?” Emily asked out loud.
“Garcia’s already looked through all the workers in both hospitals and no one crossrefranses,” Morgan interjected.
“I sure have, Sweetcheeks,” Garcia spoke up.
“There’s got to be something here that we’re missing,” Morgan mumbled.
“Garcia, start off by looking into hospitalemployees who might match our profile who’ve had contact with more than one of our victims. The dominant would be meticulous, so look for anyone with a clean record, we can also assume she’s reserved with few sosial contacts. We still don’t know how she decides who dies so look for anyone who stands out, employees who pay close attention to the victims, who check on them more than necessary, anything that screams unnatural behavior.” Hotch said and at that last bit Garcia’s fingers paused over the keyboard. Emily knew what she was thinking, because she was thinking the exact same thing.
“Does that mean employees who’s worked with Reid as well?” Garcia sounded guilty as she spoke and Emily noted that she gave Reid an apologetic look.
“What have you got Garcia?” Hotch’s answer fell to deaf ears because Reid lashed out.
“I know what you’re thinking, but you’re wrong!” He all but yelled.
“Spence!” J.J. sounded concerned, but she too was ignored.
“She didn’t do this. I know her and she didn’t do this.” Emily almost felt bad for him. The nurse had seemed like a sweet girl and either she’d played him like a fool or they were wrongfully accusing her of being a killer. There was no way she’d come good out of this one.
“Hold on! Who are we talking about?” Morgan asked at the same time as someone, Emily couldn’t tell who, asked “What do you mean you know her?” It was silent after that, this kind of silence that was just waiting for someone to break it. Emily realized then that she was staring blankly at Reid, still not used to him lashing out like that.
“I met her last night at the library,” Reid finally said after a reluctant sigh. That made Emily’s eyes go wide. Why hadn’t he said something before? “And I know what you’re all thinking, but it wasn’t her. She left way before I was shot. Garcia can probably verify that with an easy search, she got to work before 10 P.M. I know how bad that looks, but I’m telling you it’s not her. Hotch…” Reid’s voice was almost pleading towards the end and now Emily felt really bad for him. He wanted so desperately to believe it wasn’t her that he couldn’t see what was right in front of him. Even though Emily hadn’t spent that much time at the hospital she had reacted to the nurse, feeling like there was something... off about her. She hadn’t even thought that the young woman might be the unsub, but when she thought it now; it just fit.
“What’s her name?” Hotch asked, his tone of voice unreadable. Emily wondered what he was thinking.
“Leah Clarewater,” Reid sighed, probably knowing he’d lost the battle. If he hadn’t said anything, Garcia would’ve found out anyway.
“Alright. Garcia, run her and see what pops up.” Hotch almost didn’t have the time to speak because Reid interrupted him.
“Get out,” He spoke, his voice quiet but his words were harsh.
“Reid,” Emily reached forward to lay a hand on his arm but he shied away from her.
“I said, get out. I’m not even on this case and I’m telling you it’s not her, but no one’s listening. I don’t want to hear anymore, so please… just get out.” He sounded almost completely broken, as if his whole life had just been flipped upsidedown and it made Emily frown.
“Garcia, Prentiss… You heard him.” Hotch’s voice was clear and Garcia sat there frozen for a second before quickly gathering her stuff and rising from her chair.
“Reid,” Emily tried again.
“What, Emily?” He snapped at her. “I’m telling you it’s not her, and it’s not just something I want to believe; it’s something I know for a fact. And when you eventually realize that you’re all wrong I am the one who’s gonna have to look her in the eyes and live with that guilt. So no, I don’t want to hear what you find out when you do a search on her, because it’s not my place to know unless she tells me herself.” He was almost panting with rage when he finished his rambling and the room once more fell in an awkward silence so thick it could practically be cut through with a knife. His words were laced with venom and she then realized that this wasn’t all about the nurse. Most it was, sure, but he was obviously still not over everything that happened with Emily and Doyle. She had felt horrible about lying to him and the rest of the team like that, but she had thought they had all worked through it by now. Reid obviously hadn’t, because that lash out was a whole lot of unresolved tension.
Emily escorted Garcia out of the room without another word. They found a secluded area in the waitingroom outside of the ICU and Garcia seemed a little reluctant about continuing.
“Sir. I must say that this doesn’t feel right,” she mumbled, the rest of the team still on the phone even though they had gone silent after Reid’s blow up.
“I know, Garcia, but just see what you can find out,” Hotch said.
“Is someone gonna tell me who we’re talking about now?” Morgan asked and that made Emily smile. Of course he hadn't picked up on who they were talking about yet. He was a damn good agent, but sometimes he could be slow.
“The nurse who came to get us when Reid woke up this morning,” Emily replied, leaning a little closer to her phone.
“Oh, the ho-” Morgan stopped himself before he could finish his sentence. Emily tried to hide her snicker because she knew he was about to say ‘hot one’, but that would be highly inappropriate.
“She seemed like a good kid,” Rossi interjected.
“Oh, but she’s anything but!” Garcia finally spoke up again. This was the first time Emily felt a little disgusted by how excited she sounded. She knew that Garcia couldn’t always help it. She was stuck in her office all day while the rest of the team were out in the field. She loved having things to do and whenever she found something that could help, she always took that win personally. Still, this time Emily couldn’t quite feel it. Reid obviously had a thing for this girl; attraction, admiration or whatever it was… And now Garica might have found something to shatter his precious fantasy of the girl.
“What have you got?” Hotch asked.
“Well… Leah Singer Clarewater, born and raised in The Bronx, New York. Apparently she ran in a bad crowd in her younger years. Several of her friends were picked up on drugcharges in high school. She doesn’t really have a record herself, but we can only assume she was just as bad as her friends since, you know, they were friends… Anyway, when she was eighteen her eight year old brother disappeared without a trace and he was never found. Leah was apparently with him when it happened. Police investigated, but never found out what happened. Two years later her mother died of, oh, let’s see… Cancer and after that it seems that she and her father drifted off. I can’t see that they have any contact now and she doesn’t seem to have many friends. No social media, I mean zip zero, no Facebook, Twitter, not even YouTube. Nada. She’s basically a loner.”
“That does fit the profile,” J.J. mumbled. Emily agreed. And the story about family could’ve been a stressor.
“Look, guys… We have to be absolutely certain about this,” Morgan spoke up, probably feeling just what Emily was.
“Well, she has a good medical education,” Garcia said. “I mean, like really good. She’s taken a lot of extra courses and addons to her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She’d basically just need a few hours of mandatory training and she’d be certified as a paramedic.”
“So, she has a lot of medical knowledge?” Rossi asked.
“That she sure does,” Garcia nodded as she spoke, even though it was just Emily there to see her. “And- Oh! Oh…” Garcia trailed off, a sad look crossing her features. Emily wondered what she had just found out.
“What is it, Garcia?” Hotch asked.
“She has a registered .45,” she whispered. Reid, and the other victims, had been shot with a .45. Oh, how Emily hated this. She had almost hoped for Reid’s sake that they had just jumped to conclusions and that they wouldn’t find anything on her. Now everything was pointing towards her.
“That’s more than enough for a probable cause,” Hotch sighed into the phone, sounding just as defeated as Emily felt. “Morgan and J.J., go to her address. Rossi, I want you back at the hospital. We still don’t know if she is or who she might be working with. If she knows we’re onto her, she might come after Reid. Until we find her and question her, I don’t want Reid to be left unattended. Stand outside of his room if he doesn’t want visitors, but no one comes into that room without anyone of us knowing what happens. And I mean no one, no nurses, doctors, not even the janitor or cleaning crew. Got it?” Hotch’s message was clear and everyone agreed verbally before ending the call. Emily decided to let Garica work for a little bit and went back to Reid’s room. She knocked softly on the door before opening it. Reid met her eyes with a fierceness in his.
“Look,” she said, closing the door behind her and leaning against it. “I know this isn’t what you want to hear and I’ll spare you the details… But this looks bad for her. We don’t know who she might be working with, so Hotch is adamant that we don’t leave you unattended. You may not like it and that’s fine. If you wanna be alone, then that’s fine too, I’ll just stay outside the door.” Emily had decided to just be frank with him. “In the mean time, do you want to talk about what’s bothering you?” She asked, still not able to shake the tension between them.
“You’re still wrong about her.” Reid’s reply left no room for argument on that subject.
“I mean about whatever vendetta you have against me,” she clarified. Reid narrowed his eyes at her.
“No offense, Emily, but not everything is about you. On the contrary to popular belief I don’t carry grudges. My problem isn’t with you personally, it’s with all of you. I tell you that it’s not her, and you don’t believe me. I know her and my word, my credibility still means nothing to you.” He was getting agitated and she finally understood why. This wasn’t just about protecting the nurse, it was also about the team not trusting his judgement. Emily sighed.
“You’ve known her for how long? Less than a day? What if you’re wrong, Reid? Just what if?”
“I’m not.” His reply came not even a heartbeat later and his voice was certain. It was still too similar to a childish game, him not wanting to admit he might be wrong.
“Okay, I’ll bite… Say you’re right, there’s still things you don’t know about her. She’s not this amazing person you think she is. She’s got baggage, possibly more than you can imagine. She’s trouble, Reid, whether she’s the unsub or not.” Emily had no idea how much Reid knew about her, but she somehow figured out that if he knew everything then he would be more logical about this.
“She’s the best person I’ve met,” Reid said and she looked at him for a moment. Did he really mean that? Did she really have him so tightly twisted around her finger that he believed his own words to be the truth? By the confident look on his face, she guessed on yes to both questions. “But you’re right about one thing; I do want to be alone. Please, close the door behind you.” That was a clear sign that this discussion was over. Emily decided not to say anything else as she slipped out of the room.
She could only begin to imagine what Reid was going through. Emily didn’t have any relatives she spoke to, no friends outside of work. Her colleagues were her family, she loved them all dearly. If any of them got implicated for murder she probably would have lost her shit as well. Still, that got her to wonder what was going on between Reid and that nurse. She had seemed professional enough the few times she’d seen her, except for the time she’d caught her hanging out in Reid’s room for the better part of half an hour before she went home. What had that been about? Reid obviously didn’t know her that well, seeing as he claimed to have met her the night before. Maybe he felt attracted to her; she was pretty after all. But then again she wouldn’t take Reid for the guy to fall head over heels for a woman he’d barely met. This couldn’t possibly be love, she must have found a way to manipulate him.
“How’s the kid?” Rossi greeted Emily as he walked down the corridor twenty minutes later. Emily sighed heavily as he came to a stop next to her.
“Understandably upset,” she told him with a small shrug. “He’s… He’s actually pretty mad,” she said.
“He’ll get over it,” Rossi tried to assure her, but she could only shake her head.
“I’m afraid this could be a breakingpoint for him. No matter what happens from now on, Reid loses. Either this girl is a killer who’s managed to wrap him around her finger or she’s not… And I’m not sure which of them is worse,” she sighed as she spoke, not knowing how to feel about all of this.
“You don’t think it’s her?” Rossi asked, his voice slow as if he was being careful with what he said.
“It all fits,” Emily nodded. “But there’s some questions that need answers. This case is just all over the place and when one of our own is involved it just makes it… harder, you know?” She glanced up at the older man, finding him looking back with sympathetic eyes.
“Now you know how we felt last time you were involved.” He gave her a sad smile then and it made Emily’s stomach drop. She had realized that the whole thing with Doyle had been hard on the team, but that it had felt like this?
“I just hope Reid’s gonna be okay,” she mumbled.
“He’s a smart kid. He’ll pull through.” Rossi bumped his shoulder into hers, a small sign of comfort. Emily couldn’t exactly say that it helped, but she appreciated the gesture all the same. Just then her phone started blaring and she pulled it out of her pocket, noticing that it was Hotch.
“I’ve got Rossi here with me,” she spoke up after accepting the call.
“Morgan and J.J. came up empty-handed,” Hotch informed them, getting right to business. “They’re already headed back to the hospital. We can only assume that she didn’t leave at all or that she’s waiting for a chance to get to Reid. I’ve already called in reinforcement to guard his room, but in the meantime have Garcia on watchout. I want the two of you to do a sweep of the hospital, try to see if you can locate her. We have a warrant out for her arrest and I’m bringing it over as we speak,” he told them and that made Emily’s stomach tighten just a little more. They had enough probable cause to arrest her now. Before they could even agree to his orders he hung up the phone. Emily sighed, dropping the phone into her pocket again. She leaned forward a little, putting her hands on her knees as she tried to make sense of it all. She wasn’t in doubt that they had the right person, but something still felt… off. She couldn’t tell if it was the profile or just Reid’s feelings involved.
“Do you need a minute?” Rossi asked, his voice hushed next to her.
“Yeah, probably,” she nodded as a hand was placed on her hunched over back.
“I’ll go get Garcia,” he informed her before he disappeared down the corridor. Emily took a few minutes to collect her thoughts, push all doubt so far into the back of her mind that it couldn’t possibly bother her anymore. If she started doubting, she’d make mistakes and mistakes couldn’t be tolerated, especially not on a case involving one of her own. She owed it up to Reid to make this go as smoothly as possible.
Rossi returned with Garcia who they placed on a chair outside of Reid’s room. They didn’t dare ask him if she could sit in his room with him, so for right now they’d just have to make it work that way. Rossi and Emily started by talking to the nurse who was on call, simply asking if she happened to know when the unsub was coming back to work. She informed them that she wasn’t scheduled to work until the eveningshift the next day, and that she was supposed to work at the post operative unit instead of the ICU. Emily asked if that was normal, to work at two different units, to which the nurse only laughed saying something along the lines of “Do you have any idea how difficult it is to get a permanent full-time position as a nurse? Most of us work in two different units, at least.”
They went down to the post operative unit next, just to make sure she hadn’t clocked in almost 24 hours earlier than when her shift started. They came up empty there as well. For the next fifteen minutes they did a quick search of three other units, asking different personnel if they’d seen her. Most people had no idea who she even was, which didn’t surprise Emily. It was a big hospital after all.
“Hang on a second.” Emily stopped Rossi’s pace as she glanced over at the doctor who was standing and talking to the officeworker by the lobby. She could vaguely remember seeing the unsub talk to him earlier that morning by the nursingstation in the ICU. The two had seemed close, as if they were friends or close colleagues at the very least.
“Excuse me.” Rossi must have noticed her train of thoughts because he approached the man. “Dr. Ruiz,” Rossi said once he was close enough to read the print of his lapcoat. “I’m Agent Rossi, this is my partner SSA Prentiss.” Rossi pulled out his badge and showed it to the man.
“We’re looking for Leah Clarewater, but we’re having a hard time locating her. Have you seen her?” Emily asked. She was surprised by the doctor’s reaction. More times than not, people would get nervous or upset when they came asking about friends and family. This man seemed… happy? Relieved?
“Well, that was quickly!” He exclaimed. “She’s down in the ER. I’m headed that way myself, so I can walk you down,” he told them. Emily gave Rossi a look, silently asking if he was noticing the strangeness as well. He only shrugged, so they followed the doctor.
“I saw you this morning. Have you been on call for long?” Emily found herself asking as they walked down a corridor.
“It was chaos here last night, masscollision on the highway. I got called in as an extra set of hands. I usually work in post op. but when it’s all hands on deck, it’s… Well, all hands on deck,” he laughed.
“Did Leah get called in as well?” Rossi asked as they reached the elevator.
“Yeah,” he told them, pressing the button which said -1. “Typically we don’t call in nurses, but Leah has a lot of extra training and she’s really good at what she does. Always handy to have around, you know?”
“She works in the post operative unit as well. Have you known her for long?” Emily asked as they stepped out of the elevator. Dr. Ruiz nodded.
“Yeah… For the good part… Three years, is it, now? Wow, how time flies. She’s one of the best I’ve ever seen, to be honest. Cares a lot about her patients, you know? And she’s really good at her job so she’s a thrill to be working with,” he told them. He clearly thought highly of her, just like Reid. This woman had managed to fool not only one, but two doctors. She almost deserved a medal for that.
“Good evening, Dr. Ruiz!” A petite blonde greeted as they made it to the ER. “Are you gonna be working here today?”
“Yeah, no… Not today, Cindy. I’m just looking for Leah, is she still here?” The doctor asked. Emily stood beside Rossi a few steps away from them, just watching the interaction.
“Yeah, she’s down there,” Cindy answered, pointing towards the end of the giant room where a shutter had been closed all the way. “She still refuses to go up to neuro, though. Dr. Charles insisted, but she refuses,” the nurse huffed a little, as if she was annoyed. What she said made Emily’s eyebrows shoot up.
“I’ll see what I can do,” Dr. Ruiz said and Emily noted the awardwinning smile he gave the nurse. He then turned towards herself and Rossi. “I’ll just need to check some files and then I’ll be over. You can talk to her if you want,” he informed them before walking over to the nursestation in the middle of the room. Emily shrugged at Rossi and started walking towards where the nurse had pointed earlier. She dragged the curtains open, revealing the blonde woman who was sitting at the end of the bed, feet dangling back and forth, head buried in her hands and what looked to be an icepack pressed to her forehead.
“Leah Singer Clarewater?” Emily asked, a little uncertain about what exactly was going on. The woman slowly lifted her head, looking up at the agents. She blinked a couple of times, even the movements of her eyelids slow and sluggish and now that Emily could see her face she got even more confused. Her nose was swollen and obviously broken by the way it was leaning towards the right. She had cottonballs sticking out of each nostril, the tips of them stained with blood. She was sporting a massive bruise on her left cheek, the skin there already turned a deep purple which matched bruising around her eyes. She also had a deep gash across her forehead which had a few badges over it to keep it shut. Her throat looked red and Emily could see the indications of handprints developing there. She looked like hell, to say the least.
“You’re… uhm, Dr. Reid’s friends,” she finally spoke up. Her voice sounded hoarse and nasal at the same time. She squeezed her eyes shut tightly for a few seconds, as if the light was hurting, before opening them. She seemed to have a hard time focusing on the people in front of her.
“We are,” Rossi simply stated, probably as confused as Emily was. He glanced at her, and Emily could only shake her head because the sight in front of her was not what she had expected to find.
“Look,” the nurse said slowly. “I’m off duty right now, and as you can see I’m in no shape to get back to work at the moment. Whatever he needs, there’s other nurses on call now who can help him.” Her voice was still slightly slurred as she spoke, as if she was drugged down or drunk. Emily assumed they had given her a cocktail of drugs for whatever pain she was in.
“Actually, we wanted to talk to you,” Emily pursed her lips together, not knowing how to handle the situation. This woman was still a suspect, but now might not be the best time to have this conversation. They still had a warrant for her arrest, but they couldn’t possibly arrest her right now when she looked like that. There was a lot of information missing here.
“You were with Reid the other night?” Rossi spoke up and that seemed to confuse her. Her eyes were even narrowed than they had been a second ago.
“Oh, right… Right, at the library,” she said as the memories seemed to come back to her. Emily wasn’t a doctor, but she could clearly tell that this woman was seriously concussed. She was in no condition to be having this conversation.
“We just want the stories straight, that’s all,” Emily said, leaving out the part of them thinking she was actually a serial killer. “But we can talk to you later if you’re not up for it right now,” she assured her.
“Later might be a good time,” Dr. Ruiz spoke up, startling Emily a little. She hadn’t even noticed him approaching. “Leah, we’re taking you up to neuro.”
“No, I’m fine,” she waved her hand dismissively and dropped the ice pack. She seemed to have sobered up a little bit since Emily and Rossi had walked in. “I just wanna go home, but I can talk now. Is this gonna take long?” She asked, pushing the doctors hands away as he tried to touch her.
“Leah, seriously,” The doctor tried to make her stay still, but she pushed him off yet again.
“Ruiz, I’m fine,” She jumped off from the bed, leaning down, probably to try to get her bag which was laying on the floor, and then collapsed forward. Emily was about to rush forward on instinct, but the doctor just barely managed to grab a hold of her. She still ended up sprawled out on the floor, but Dr. Ruiz had managed to lighten the fall so she didn’t smack right down.
“Can you give me some space, please?” The doctor asked looking up at Emily and Rossi. He was sitting on his knees besides Clarewater, one hand supporting the back of her head while the other one was pressed against her chest. Rossi and Emily immediately took a step back. They couldn’t do anything but stand there and watch as he pulled a small flashlight out if coat, forcing one of the nurse’s eyes open to check the reflexes.
“Fuck me, that’s bright!” She groaned, clearly not unconscious. She battled his hand away.
“Yeah, you’re totally fine.” Emily could almost hear him roll his eyes at her. He was so done with her bullshit, and in any other situation the two of them might have been adorable. He obviously cared about her, even though she probably annoyed him at times.
“It’s just a BP-drop,” the nurse scoffed. “Is it me or you who’s the doctor here?”
“It’s me, and that’s why you’re going up to neuro.” His voice was stern even as he helped her up on her feet. He gently sat her down on the bed, pushing on her shoulders until she reluctantly laid down. She made small noises of discontent all the time until she closed her eyes against the blinding overheadlight. “Leah, I’ll strap you to the bed if I have to. I have two federal agents here to back me up. We’re taking that trip to neuro whether you like it or not. Doctor’s orders.” That left no room for argument and Emily felt a small smile tug on the corner of her lips, despite the seriousness of the situation. They were like a pair of siblings or an old married couple fighting.
“Is it okay if one of us tags along so we can talk to her once she’s checked out?” Rossi asked once the scene in front of them calmed down.
“Be my guest,” the doctor said, waving another man forward, probably a porter. He picked up the bag from the floor and placed it on Clarewater’s stomach. He unlocked the breaks from the bed and the other man stepped forward, taking his place on the other side. “neuro’s a few floors up and I’ve already called ahead for a CT and MRI, so it might take some time. But if you wanna stick around, then that should be alright.” He informed them as the two men started pushing the bed forward.
“You go. I’ll call Hotch and tell him what’s happened,” Rossi told Emily who only nodded and moved forward to follow the moving bed down the corridors. She decided to stay silent as they traveled around the hospital. She waited outside of the room where the CT was placed, taking a seat in the chair. When the suspect, and yes she wanted to use the word suspect now since she had no idea how to read the situation anymore, was placed safely in the machine the doctor stepped out again. Emily offered him a smile as he took a seat next to her.
“Is she gonna be okay?” Emily asked.
“Leah? Yeah, sure,” Dr. Ruiz laughed. “She’s gotten a few blows to the head, so we’re just ruling out serious brain trauma. It’s probably just a bad concussion, but we have to make sure it’s not something more, you know?”
“I hope it’s not anything worse,” Emily offered her concern.
“Well, it’s Leah so she’ll be fine. She always is,” Dr. Ruiz shrugged. “Sorry you had to see that back there. She’s a really nice girl, but she can be stubborn. She’s this kind of person who always gives 110 percent, you know? I constantly have to remind her to take breaks, because she refuses. Says she hates breaks because she feels like she’s useless when she’s not doing anything. I always try to sneak some treats into her pockets, like proteinbars or something, because I know if I don’t then she’ll be running on adrenaline and coffee the entire day.”
“She seems invested in her work then,” Emily hummed. “You seem to really care about her.” She glanced up at him to see his reaction. He just smiled fondly.
“She’s the best, honestly. She’s kinda like my workwife,” he laughed.
“Oh, really?” Emily couldn’t help but chuckle herself.
“Yeah, whenever we work together things just flow so smoothly, you know what I’m talking about? I mean, she annoys me to death sometimes… mostly because she refuses to look out for herself, but she’s damn good at her job. And she’s a lot of fun to be around and we work really well together. The others down at post op. call us ‘dream team’ because of that,” he laughed again.
“Well, I can only imagine.” Emily felt a little bad about hearing him talk so highly of her when she was a suspect in a murderinvestigation. “So, you know her well then?”
“Not as well as I’d like to,” he muttered, a little sadness lacing his tone now. “I think she buries herself in work. I mean, we were both supposed to be on the morning shift for today, but I switched things around so I could get the eveningshift instead since I had to work the night. Leah is the kind of person who prefers to work doubles. I do that occasionally, too and let me tell you this; it drains you. I think she thrives on it, the more work she has to do, the more content she is, you know? But I think it takes a toll on her social life.” He cocked his head to the side with a little shrug. Emily nodded her head slowly to his words. She had nothing to say to that, because she didn’t know what to say.
“Do you know what happened to her?” She decided to ask instead, wondering what happened in order to give Leah those not so lovely bruises. She had her theories, but right now she had little to nothing to go on.
“No one really knows,” Dr. Ruiz shrugged. “Another employee was headed home and found her by her car in the garage. From what I heard she was unconscious and they brought her up to the ER to get checked out. I haven’t really had the chance to talk to her yet. I was headed down to see her when I ran into you guys.”
“Okay,” Emily nodded along and the doctor stood up from his seat. He stuffed his hands into his pockets.
“Are you a colleague of that federal agent who was admitted last night?” He asked. Emily nodded.
“Yes, and we’re investigating the case. That’s why we want to talk to your colleague, get the full picture,” she told him, leaving out the parts he didn’t need to know.
“Do you think the same person who shot your agent came after Leah?” He asked with a frown on his face. That thought had just crossed Emily’s mind as well, but she still couldn’t be sure. Perhaps the other unsub had lashed out on her. Dominant and submissive partnerships like that hardly ever worked out, especially if the dominant didn’t include the submissive in the whole process. Or if the submissive felt too subjected.
“That’s what we’re here to find out.” Emily offered him her best tight lipped smile.
“You know… We worked on him when he was rushed in, before he went into surgery. She probably doesn’t want to admit it, but she was pretty shaken up about it,” he told her. This time it was Emily’s turn to frown.
“Shaken up how?” She asked. This was news to her.
“You know, just upset I guess,” he tried to explain, but it didn’t bring any clarity. He must have noticed that Emily needed more because he continued. “Leah… she beats herself up over… pretty much anything. I mean, if she loses a patient on her watch she takes that personally, even though it’s not her fault or responsibility. That’s her only flaw, I guess. She cares so much, too much sometimes. And when stuff like this happens, the wheels keep turning. I guess she blames herself? For not being there. She said stuff like if she hadn’t got called in then maybe she would’ve left at the same time as your agent, and maybe he wouldn’t have gotten shot. I tried to tell her to forget about it, but I guess some things you just can’t leave alone,” he shrugged his shoulders. Emily could only offer him a sad smile. She understood it a little more. If this was the kind of person Clarewater made everyone believe she was then it wasn’t weird that she had Reid fooled. But the more she thought about it, the more it made her doubt that maybe this woman wasn’t putting on an act after all. But she couldn’t go there just yet. They still needed to see this through before they could even concidder dropping her as a suspect.
The doctor bid his farewell after that, telling her he had to get back to work. She offered her gratitude before he left, to which he simply replied to with a smile. As Emily waited for their suspect to be done with her check up, she called up Garcia, gave her a heads up about what was going on and told her to see if there was any surveillance by the employee parking. If Clarewater had been attacked there then maybe the cameras had captured her assailant on video. She was just about to call Hotch to let him know as well when she spotted him at the end of the hall. Morgan and J.J. were at his side so she waved them over.
“Dave told us what happened,” Hotch said as he approached. “Where is she?”
“They’re doing a few tests to rule out braininjury,” Emily said as she nodded her head towards the closed door. “She looked pretty beat up so I think it’s gonna take a while until we get to interview her.”
“Garcia just texted me and said she was attacked by her car?” Hotch asked and Emily nodded.
“That’s where she was found,” she confirmed. “Listen, Hotch… I just gotta say… there’s something off about all of this.”
“Yeah, I feel it too.” J.J. said.
“Everyone I’ve talked to so far today says she’s a good girl, has her traumas, sure, but the way they describe her… I just don’t think she’s the one we’re after.” Emily felt the need to be honest with her coworkers. There were times when they’d uprehend the wrong suspect or they had their profile all wrong, and no one liked those moments. But they still needed to play this right. “Could we have made a rushed decision here?” They all looked at Hotch to hear what he had to say. He looked a little uncertain as if he too had no idea what right move was.
“Morgan, I want you and Prentiss to head down to the garage. See if there’s anything there that might help us. J.J., I want you to check on Reid, see if Garcia might need a break. I’m taking Dave with me to the coroner’s. They’ve just re-exhumed Anthony Garland’s body to see if they can determine the cause of death. It appears it might take some time for Leah Clarewater to be ready to talk, but when she is, I want you to do it, Prentiss. You’ve talked to her coworkers, see if there’s anything that doesn’t add up with their stories versus hers. Take the garage first, though. I’ll let the doctors know we want to talk to her before she gets discharged.” Hotch’s message was clear and they all nodded their agreement.
Emily followed Morgan to the parkingstructure next to the hospital. When they got there local authorities and CSI were already on scene. Wow, these people worked fast. They flashed their badge and gave the unit chief a runthrough of why they were there. The floor which Clarewater’s car was parked on was surprisingly empty so it wasn’t strange that no one had seen what had gone down. Including Clarewater’s Emily could spot about fifteen cars when there was probably space for closer to a hundred.
“We think she was assaulted over here,” the unit chief said, pointing to the ground next to the driver’s side of the car. “We think the suspect came up behind her, smashed her head into the car a couple of times before throwing her to the ground,” he informed them and that seemed to be a pretty adequate guess. There was a dent on the edge by the roof of her car and some traces of blood. On the ground there were scuffmarks and a few smaller pools of blood.
“Sir.?” A voice from the other side of the car called their attention. “Found it in the glovecompartment.” The man who spoke was standing in the space between the open passangerdoor and the car itself. He had a gun hanging from the tips of his glovecovered fingers.
“What caliber is that?” Emily asked.
“It appears to be .45,” the man told her. Emily turned to look at Morgan.
“Our missing gun,” he nodded, crossing his arms over his chest. “Chief, we have a murderinvestigation going on. Can you rush a ballisticstest on that gun to see if it matches?”
“Sure can do,” he told them. “But that gun’s probably the victim’s, though, since it was found in her car.”
“We’re aware,” Emily countered back, not offering any more information. He gave her a strange look, but didn’t say anything else on the matter. There wasn’t really much to do around the crime-scene, so Emily and Morgan decided not to hover for very long. They’d seen what they needed to and until they’d get the results from the various tests they had little to go on. They stopped by the cafeteria on their way, both in desperate need of fuel. They had been running different errands since the morning and Emily hadn’t eaten anything since breakfast. They used half an hour or so for their break, briefing the rest of their team on their findings while eating.
“Do you think it was that nurse?” Morgan asked once they finally had some peace and quiet, even with noise of other people around them.
“Do you?” Emily countered back. She was still a little reluctant about sharing her thoughts.
“I mean, part of me wants to just so we have the right suspect. If it’s not her, then we’re not making any headway,” he shrugged. “But I have this… feeling, like something isn’t adding up.”
“It never really adds up, though,” Emily said. It was true, even when they were 100% certain they’d caught the right guy, there was always a minor detail or two which didn’t make sense to them. It usually always made sense to the unsub, but their logic wasn’t always rational.
“True, but still.” Morgan huffed before taking a sip of his coffee.
“I don’t think it’s her either,” Emily finally said, offering some sort of comfort in telling him he wasn’t the only one who experienced doubt in that moment. “She could be really manipulative with the people around her, but that doctor I talked to earlier… He said that she’d been really worried about Reid. And you can’t fake concern like that.”
“She could be worried about getting caught,” Morgan countered. This conversation really wasn’t going anywhere. They were just throwing out suggestions and the other one shooting them down. It wasn’t because none of them were right or wrong, it was just because none of them really had any idea if Clarewater was the unsub or not. And when they didn’t know for certain, no suggestion was right nor wrong. It was kind of like Schrodinger’s cat which Reid had once told her about.
“I just feel bad for Reid,” she mumbled, followed by a sigh.
“He’ll live,” Morgan shrugged nonchalantly, even though she knew he was just as concerned. “It’s Reid, he’ll pull through.”
“I sure hope so,” Emily said, staring at a blank spot over Morgan’s head as she absentmindly started picking at her cuticles.
“Hey, stop that now!” He scolded at her. “You’ll talk to her later and then you’ll know for sure. I trust your instinct. You can get the vibe whether a person is good or bad within a five minute conversation. If you think she’s the one, then she’s probably the one. If you don’t think she’s the one, then she’s probably not the one. Okay? Easy as that.” He put his hand on top of hers and she was grateful for the small gesture. It did sound awfully easy when he put it like that.
“Okay.” She nodded, offering him a smile to tell him she was good. “They haven’t called yet, so do you wanna head up and check on Reid?” Morgan’s smile brightened at that and he agreed. They put their mostly empty trays of food away, but grabbed their still full coffeecups on the way. When they got back to the ICU Emily noted that Anderson, another federal agent, had arrived and stood stationed outside of Reid’s room. They both greeted him before opening the door and walking inside. Through the window Emily had seen that both J.J. and Garcia were sitting by Reid’s bed so she assumed he had calmed down from his previous lash out.
“How you doing, kid?” Morgan asked.
“Fine,” Reid’s reply was short and simple. He probably still wasn’t in the mood for talking.
“He doesn’t want any updates on the nurse,” J.J. spoke up gently, carefully threading water. Emily’s phone vibrated in her pocket so she fished it out, seeing that there was a number she hadn’t saved. She excused herself before leaving the room. Accepting the call, she pressed the phone to her ear.
“This is Prentiss,” she answered.
“Hi! I’m calling from the Neurology unit at Inova Fairfax Hospital. My notes says that you wanted me to call you on an update with Leah Clarewater,” There was a man who spoke in a very high pitched voice, kind of like Reid’s.
“Oh, yes!” Emily answered. “Is she awake?”
“We decided to admit her for the night, just as a precaution. But she’s awake and coherent, so if you want to see her that should be fine now.”
“Okay, great! I’ll be right over!” Emily said before hanging up the phone. She poked her head in through Reid’s door before she left, just saying she was leaving for a few minutes. Reid hadn’t wanted to know anything, so she didn’t say where she was going. Morgan would know and that was enough.
The hospital was a maze, but she eventually found her way to Neurology. With the help of some lovely nurse she managed to locate Clarewater’s room which was at the very end of the hall. She knocked purposefully on the door, waiting a second before opening it. She poked her head in to see that the person she was looking for was laying down in the bed.
“Hey,” Emily greeted her as she closed the door behind her. “Do you remember me?” She asked as she took a seat in one of the empty chairs. Emily thought it was strange. Clarewater was in her own clothes which  had a few stains of blood dried on them, there were no IVs or other kinds of medical equipment connected to her, nothing to indicate she was sick. While Reid had an IV hooked up constantly and a hospitalgown on he still looked far healthier than she did. It was just a funny thought.
“I do, but I must apologise for not recalling the name,” Clarewater sighed. She didn’t sound irritated, just tired. Emily could only imagine.
“Don’t worry about it,” she smiled. “My name is Emily Prentiss.”
“Okay,” the blonde mumbled. “Sorry, I’m just really dizzy and my head is kind of a mess so I probably won’t be able to remember that in, like, five minutes.”
“That’s fine,” Emily assured her.
“You, uh… wanted to talk to me about Spencer?” She lifted her head as if she wanted to look at Emily, but she was wearing a pair of dark, huge sunglasses so it was hard to meet her eyes. Emily took note that she referred to Reid by his firstname.
“Yes, but let’s start with what happened to you in parkinggarage.”
“I honestly don’t remember much.” The nurse leaned forward a little in the bed and rubbed her forehead with both her hands.
“Just tell me what you remember,” Emily offered.
“I don’t know,” she sighed. “I was just headed for my car when this guy came up behind me.”
“Do you remember what he looked like?” Emily asked. “Was he tall? Short? Bald perhaps? Did he have any tattoos? Do you remember anything that could help us find him?”
“He was, uhm… tall, I think? I mean, he was taller than me, but I’m, like, five-foot-two so basically everyone’s taller than me,” she explained. “And… um, I didn’t really see his face or anything. At least I don’t think so. I honestly can’t remember. Sorry, my mind’s a mess right now.” She looked up and even though Emily couldn’t see her eyes she knew she was looking sad about it.
“That’s fine. It’s normal not to remember everything right away. And you served some pretty bad blows to the head, so really… Don’t feel bad,” Emily offered her a genuine smile. “Let’s not focus on the details. Can you remember what happened? Was he behind you the whole time or was there a time where you were facing him?”
“No, he, uhm… He came up behind me and smashed my face into the car. Like, hard and repeatedly. Then he threw me down on the ground, on my back, and then he got on top of me. I think I must have closed my eyes or something, because I can’t actually remember seeing his face.” Clarewater explained.
“Are you sure? Try to think really hard.” Emily told her as she made mental notes as to what she was telling her.
“No, you don’t… It’s hard to explain. It’s not like I can’t remember what he looked like, it’s like I can’t remember if I saw him or not. I don’t know how else to explain it, sorry.” She chuckled a little at that before wincing and clutching a hand to her forehead again.
“It’s fine, we’ll come back to that.” Emily assured her. “What happened next?”
“Well, he… got on top of me and started strangling me. And I think I must’ve… fought back or something, because I scratched him and he didn’t like that. So he sorta… lifted me by the front of my shirt and slammed me back down, like, slamming my head against the ground. And he did that a few times and I think I passed out from that, because I… can’t really remember anything after that.”
“Wait, you scratched him?” Emily backtracked a little. That was the most important part of her story so far.
“Yeah, I… I think I must’ve,” she said, holding her hands out. Emily noted that her nails were clipped short, as a nurse’s nails should be, and there was a little blood and what looked like skin under a few of them.
“I’m gonna have someone come up later and collect a sample. There might be some DNA there which can help us find this guy,” Emily informed her and Clarewater dropped her hands again. “Do you remember anything else about him? Did he say anything?”
“Yeah, he… he did, but I don’t think it means anything.” She said with a shrug.
“What exactly did he say?”
“He said… He said ‘Heathens be heathens. Heathens be scapegoats’.” Her voice was slightly shaky as she spoke and that made Emily frown as well. What did that mean?
“And that doesn’t mean anything to you?” Emily asked.
“Why would it?” She scoffed. “I don’t know, that’s what he said.”
“Alright,” Emily nodded. “Do you need a little break?” Emily felt the need to ask. Clarewater seemed… a little shaken up, but fine considering all things. Most victims would be a crying mess halfway through telling their stories, but she wasn’t. She seemed noticeably upset, sure, but not nearly what Emily would expect. She still couldn’t tell if it was whatever medication she might be on or the concussion or if it was something else.
“I just wanna get this over with so I can get some rest.” Clarewater responded, sounding tired so Emily could understand her desire for sleep. “You wanted to talk about your agent?”
“Yes,” Emily said, still a little certain about how to proceed. “We just want to get the timeline right. So, we’re looking into everyone he saw before he got shot and everyone he-” she started explaining before she was cut off.
“Wait, wait, wait,” Clarewater shook her head a little, as if she was trying to grasp something. “What do you mean ‘looking into’?” She asked. Emily’s mouth fell open a little at the defensive tone the other woman had. “Am I a suspect? Is that what this is?” Emily could understand that she’d feel upset about the accusations, but she found herself growing frustrated as well. It was kind of like a defensemechanism for Emily.
“Look, here’s what I know,” She said, keeping her voice stern. “You were the last person to see Dr. Reid before he was shot-”
“I was already at work when he got shot!” Clarewater interrupted. She almost screaming and that must have hurt her head, but she didn’t show it.
“You’ve visited his room on multiple occasions after he got admitted, some of those visits unnecessary, won’t you say? You don’t seem the least bit concerned about what happened to yourself and you’re in a rush to get out of here. Correct me if I’m wrong, but that screams guilty to me and I don’t know what exactly you’re guilty for but I still have to follow all leads,” Emily told her and tried to look somewhat in the center of the sunglasses as if she was trying to maintain eye contact. She looked at her for a long moment before the woman eventually took the glasses off. She winced a little, shutting her eyes for a few seconds before opening them. She blinked a little against the light before she spoke up.
“Why would I shoot Spencer? I barely even know him. It doesn’t make any sense,” She said, her voice a more normal level now.
“Sometimes it just doesn’t make any sense,” Emily told her, keeping her voice in a lower tone to match the other woman’s. “Listen… Is it okay if I call you Leah?” Emily asked to which the other woman just shrugged. “I’m gonna be completely honest with you. Me and my team, Dr. Reid included… We’re profilers. We investigate murders and other criminalcases and we evaluate the evidence. Based on that evidence we make a profile of what we think that killer is like, how they act, their education, social life, etcetera. And you do fit that profile, Leah. And I’m only telling you this because Reid… he thinks you’re innocent. So, I owe it to him to be honest with you so you can be honest with me.” Emily watched as her eyes glossed over. She looked genuinely upset.
“You said murder…” She trailed off at the end. “Is Spencer… Is he dead? He was fine when I left the ICU. God, please don’t tell me he’s dead.” She started crying then and that reaction put even more doubt into Emily’s mind. One thing was telling her that she was in the same room as the unsub they were looking for, another thing told her the opposite. It was a tough case, but she remembered Morgan’s previous words and she was adamant to leave that room with more answers than questions.
“Reid is fine, but we assume that whoever shot him might come back,” Emily decided to just be completely honest.
“And you still think that’s me?” Clarewater asked, sniffing through her tears. “You actually think I did this?”
“Prove it wasn’t,” was all Emily could say.
“Yeah, because how do I prove I didn’t shoot anyone?” She laughed darkly at that, even through her tears which were falling more rapidly now.
“How about you start with telling me why your reaction’s so off?” Emily offered. Right now that was the most pressing concern she had.
“Why? Because I’m not curled up in the corner like some baby and feeling sorry for myself?” She scoffed.
“That might be a good place to start,” Emily nodded. She watched as the other woman fiddled a little in the bed before moving to the end of it.
“I just… need to move around for a second,” she sighed, slowly getting up. Emily shot to her feet, afraid Clarewater would fall again. She didn’t go to grab her, just getting ready in case something were to happen. “I’m fine,” she assured her. Once Emily was sure she was actually okay to stand on her own she let the woman move freely.
“Take your time,” Emily said as Clarewater moved to stand by the window. She just looked out it for probably five minutes straight, her face was unreadable. She looked drained of emotions, completely numb.
“Are you gonna tell Spencer about any of this?” She finally asked after a long moment of silence.
“Do you want me to?” Emily asked back.
“No, I honestly don’t want him to know.”
“Alright, then whatever you say to me will not reach his ear. He’s off the case completely now, he said he didn’t want any involvement after we brought you up as a possible suspect,” Emily decided that if she was to get any answers she had to just be honest. She owed that to Reid and to Clarewater.
“He’s too good, you know?” She said, turning her head so she could look at Emily. She had a sad smile on her lips. Emily wondered what she meant by that. “So, you said you’re… profilers? Does that mean you… like, did a background check on me?”
“We did, yes,” Emily answered.
“So, you know about Sam?”
“That’s your brother, right?”
“Yeah,” Clarewater sighed, making her way over to the other chair which was on the other side of the bed. She slumped down in it. She looked… exhausted, there really wasn’t any other way of putting it. “I don’t know how much you know, but I was with him the day he disappeared. And I… just never stopped blaming myself for that. He had been right there. Right there! And in a split second he was gone. And I blamed myself and eventually the police gave up looking and then my parents started blaming me as well… And all this time I still wish it was me and not him. I never got to know what happened to him, but I can only imagine. And whatever horrible things he might have experienced, I still wish it was me and not him.” She explained and Emily felt a little bad for her. She could really understand her struggles, but that still didn’t give her a clear answer. “I don’t tell a lot of people that. Actually, I’ve probably never told anyone that. I’ve told some people about Sammy, though, just not… Anyway, I think it’s clear to say I don’t really care about myself. I mean, I’m not exactly stupid and I know that when people tell me it’s not healthy to have those thoughts, I realize that they’re right, but I just don’t care. I guess I care more about other’s than I do about myself.” She finished with a shrug.
“Leah, don’t take this the wrong way… but are you depressed?” Emily had to ask because the way she talked very much suggested that she was. Clarewater paused for a moment.
“Look, as I said I’m not stupid. I’m not gonna sit here and lie when I’m quite literary trying to clear my name. I don’t think I’m depressed, but then again most depressed people think that… but there’s a possibility. I… tend to bury myself in work rather than feel my… emotions, feelings whatever. I don’t like feeling vulnerable, I don’t like feeling sad and I realize that I do not exactly have a healthy relationship with my emotions… but I didn’t do this. I didn’t shoot Spencer. Enough people around me have been hurt and I don’t ever want to be the reason for that again.” Tears were streaming down her face again towards the end of her speech. Emily felt the urge to hug her, something she had never done before with a suspect.
“Leah, listen to me… You did not hurt your brother. You are not the reason he’s gone. I know it’s hard, but try to believe me when I say that you did nothing wrong. Nothing,” Emily spoke sternly, putting pressure on all the right words. Clarewater raised her eyes to look at her.
“So… Do you believe me?” She asked. “I would never hurt Spencer, at least not on purpose. I know I’m fucked up. Sorry for cursing, by the way. I know I’m messed up, but I wouldn’t go around shooting someone. And especially not Spencer. He… he’s possibly one of the best people I’ve ever met.” Emily had to smile at that last part.
“You know, he said the exact same thing about you.” She knew it wasn’t her place to tell, but she realized this woman needed to hear some positive words right now.
“He did?” Clarewater asked. Her eyes were still glassy. “So, you believe me?” And that was the question, wasn’t it. It had an easy answer now.
“Yes, Leah. I believe you,” Emily told her honestly. “I’m gonna be honest with you now and you need to hear this. The people we usually hunt, they’re like you. They’ve had a bad childhood or have some mental disorders, or something else to make them lash out… But not everyone who experiences trauma becomes killers. Some people are like you, they spend all their time and effort on helping others. You do need to remember, though, that you have to take care of yourself as well, okay?”
“I try…” Clarewater said in a hushed voice. “Or actually, that’s a lie. I want to try. I guess it’s just easier to take care of others than myself.”
“Maybe you should start by doing that, put yourself first?” Emily suggested.
“Maybe,” she shrugged, but Emily had a feeling she wouldn’t take that suggestion to heart. It wasn’t her place to say anything on the matter, not really, but oh how she wanted to. This woman had been through enough.
“I still have a few questions before we’re done, is that okay?” Emily asked, deciding it would best to just hurry things along so Clarewater could get some rest. “We found a gun in your car… Is there any reason you have it?” The woman fiddled a little in her seat, as if she didn’t quite want to answer the question. Emily actually believed that Clarewater wasn’t behind this, not anymore, but there were still so many questions and evidence still pointing towards her.
“Would you buy it if I said it’s for protection?” She asked, looking up at Emily through her lashes. “I want to be honest here, but I also really don’t want to get into detail about that… I bought the gun… years ago and it is for protection. I’ve never even fired it and it has nothing to do with Spencer so do I really have to go into details?” She looked genuinely uncomfortable, so Emily decided to let it go. But she still had some things to say on the matter.
“Hey, why you got it is actually none of my concern. It’s what you use it for that we’re interested in. I have to tell you this, since you’re still technically a suspect until we’ve ruled out everything, but we’re gonna test the gun, just to see if matches the gun we’re looking for. If it doesn’t, then there’s no problem here,” Emily informed her. She nodded shortly. “I also need to ask you about last night. We just need to hear your side of what happened after you left the library.”
“I uhm… I was just trying to read this book at the library. And I know this is probably gonna make me sound… even more suspect, I guess, but I’m hardly ever there. I just… lately I’ve been having a lot on my mind and I already explained how I am with emotions… I just couldn’t be at home alone, so I decided to just… head out. So, I went to the library and apparently I left my card by the printer. Spencer found it and returned it to me since I was still there,” she explained. Emily nodded for her to continue. It didn’t make her more of a suspect in her eyes, especially since she now believed closer to 90% that this woman wasn’t who they were looking for. “We got to talking, because… You know, he seemed nice. We didn’t really talk that much, because I got called into work around… I’m sorry, I know when they called and I know when I arrived, but my head’s still kind of a mess.”
“We checked and you clocked in at nine-fourty-eight,” Emily offered. Garcia had checked earlier.
“Yeah… that sounds about right. I always clock in the minute I walk into work. And if I remember correctly then they called around half something, so probably nine-thirty. It’s in my phone, so I can just check to make sure.” She said.
“No need, that seems to fit with the timeline.” Emily respond. “So, let’s say it took you around fifteen minutes to get from the library to work, does that sound right to you? You didn’t make any stops along the way?” The team had already checked this, estimating that with the light traffic so late at night it would probably take about ten minutes to drive that distance, and given the time it would take to park, get from the parking garage, change clothes and clock in fifteen-twenty minutes seemed more than plausible.
“No, I just headed straight in. They said it was an all hands on deck situation, so I got here as fast as I could.” She answered.
“Alright, that seems to match our timeline.” Emily told her. “I think that is enough for right now.”
“That’s… it?”
“Yeah, that’s it.” Emily offered the most reassuring smile she could muster. She had everything she needed. Sure, they’d have to wait for the ballisticstest on her gun to come back, but she already assumed that wouldn’t be a problem. “As I said before, we’re still going to check your gun, just a procedure. But if the test comes back negative then we can officially drop you as a suspect.”
“So… you actually believe me? This isn’t some kind of trick is it? Because I’ve been nothing but honest and if this-”
“Leah, I believe you.” Emily interrupted her, leaning forward in her seat a little. “Okay? I believe you.” She said it again, just to make sure Clarewater understood that she was genuine. Her initial response was to let out a shaky breath.
“Thank you,” she breathed out, her eyes watering a little again. “I mean, I shouldn’t be thanking you for not thinking I’m some lunatic who just goes around shooting random people, but… thank you.” Emily couldn’t help but laugh at that and suddenly she could see why Reid likes her so much.
“There’s no need to thank me, Leah. I just wanted answers and you were honest with me. That’s all I needed to know.” Emily shrugged.
“But you still thought I did this… and I still swear I didn’t, but doesn’t that… like, leave you back to square one?” Clarewater asked.
“It kind of does,” Emily agreed. “But we’ll catch whoever is behind this.” That caught Clarewater’s attention.
“Do you think whoever shot Spencer might be the same person who attacked me?” Emily had to purse her lips a little.
“It’s a theory,” she said. “But you being the person who shot Reid was also just a theory. So, it might just be a theory and nothing more than a theory.”
“I’m still a mess and that was a lot of ‘theory’s in the same sentence.” Clarewater said while shaking her head, looking a little lost. Emily found herself chuckling again. “But I think I got the point.”
“I’m sorry,” Emily said, a little sheepishly. “I should probably let you get some rest now. It’s been a long day for you, so remember what I told you about trying to take care of yourself, okay?” She nodded, but Emily still had her doubts about wether she’d actually listen to those words.
“I’m sorry, but what was your name again? I know it was something on ‘E’, I just think my brain is shutting down now.” Clarewater asked.
“Emily.” She smiled.
“Is it okay if I call you Emily or do you prefer Agent… something else I don’t remember.” Now that Clarewater was unofficially ruled out as a suspect Emily realized that she started to like her.
“Emily is just fine.” She replied.
“I know this is gonna sound really inappropriate, but can I hug you?” That was a really inappropriate request, but one that Emily couldn’t find it in herself to deny. So, she rose from her seat and the other woman met her halfway. They embraced and it wasn’t this earthshattering experience. There was no crying on the shoulder, no messing up make-up, just a comforting hug. But Emily found it that she had needed a hug just as much as Clarewater had.
“You try to get some rest, okay?” Emily said, stroking the other woman’s back a final time before stepping back. “I’m gonna have someone come in soon so they can collect the DNA-sample from your fingernails. And we might have some more questions for you later regarding your own assault, but for tonight I think you should just rest. Is that okay?” Clarewater nodded and went back over to her bed. She laid down in it, drawing the blankets around her.
“Hey, uhm, Emily?” She asked just as Emily was about to leave.
“Yeah?”
“You said if I remembered anything?” Clarewater started. “The man who attacked me… I’m pretty sure he was an addict or something.”
“What makes you say that?” Emily frowned.
“Or maybe not addict, but he was really irrational. When he… said those words, he said it when he was slamming my head into the ground. And he… Well, he was so angry, but his voice was calm. It was like his body was full of rage, but his mind wasn’t, if you know what I mean?” Clearwater explained and Emily did. “He just… he wasn’t sane is what I’m saying. I guess that’s something important for you to know.”
“It is.” Emily assured her. “It really is. Thank you, Leah. Now if there’s anything else, no matter how small the detail may be, then call me, okay?” Emily picked a card out of her pocket and left it on the nightstand before deciding she had occupied enough of Clarewater’s time.
“Thank you.” She smiled. “You’ll look out for Spencer, right? He’s a good guy.”
“Of course we will. He has a whole team behind him who cares about him very much.”
“That’s good. He deserves that.” Clarewater smiled once more and Emily took that as her que to leave. She almost didn’t even get out of the room before she called someone to collect the DNA-sample, feeling like that might answer one question if they’d get a match. Even though she walked out of Neurology feeling ten times lighter, she still felt like the more answers she’d gotten, the more questions popped up.
She returned to the ICU to find Morgan standing outside of Reid’s door, phone to his ear. She decided to wait for him to finish talking, so she started a friendly conversation with Anderson.
“What’d the girl say?” Morgan asked once he’d hung up.
“I don’t think it’s her.” Emily sighed, getting right to the important part.
“Well, ballistics agree with you.” He informed her and Emily’s eyes went wide.
“You got the report already?”
“Well, I told the chief to put a rush on it and what can I say? They really put a rush on it.” He laughed. Emily felt even lighter now.
“So, the gun didn’t match, then?” Emily asked, just to be sure.
“No. That was the gun expert I just talked to. He said he didn’t even need to test it since the gun hadn’t been fired in a while. He actually concluded that the gun had never been fired. But he did a testround anyway just to be sure and it doesn’t match.” So, Clarewater really had been telling the truth. Not that Emily had doubted that after the heart to heart they’d had, but it was good to have a solid piece of evidence as well.
“So, does that mean we can rule her out then?” Emily asked and Morgan shrugged.
“I mean, we still gotta brief the rest of the team and hear what Hotch has to say, but to me it’s a pretty straight case. We have no evidence tying her to any of the shootings or murders, we’ve all had mixed feelings about her, your good peopleknowing skills speak in her favour… And Reid’s as well. I say she’s no longer a suspect.” Morgan shrugged and Emily had never once in her life been so relieved that they’d caught the wrong person.

dating spencer reid would include ...
→ summary: cute stuff
→ warnings: none
→ word count: 3.2k
→ a/n: i felt like this would be a good starting point for this little writing blog! (fem!reader x spencer)
Tumblr media
ngl spencer’s got that dr. jekyll mr hyde dynamic going on ,, sometimes he’s rly flustered and nervous and other times he’s vehemently flirtatious and there’s nothing you can do abt it
when you first met, he was super cautious and maybe even a little bit scared?? to be around you ,, BUT that quickly changed !
after a year and a half he’s learned to take it easy and not sweat the small things ,, or at least not as much as he used to
he calls it the y/n effect
SPENCER REID LOVES WHEN YOU KISS HIS FOREHEAD !
he just melts when your hands cup his face and he can feel the love coursing through your veins. he drinks it in like it’s water and he’s been in a desert for a thousand days. and then, you bring him down and place a gentle kiss smack in the middle of his forehead
it leaves him starstruck, completely and utterly in love
you especially like hearing him funnel fact after fact into your brain
you know that you’ll never remember all of them but the second you quote him to himself he just gushes about how much he appreciates you and how much he loves you ,,
“oh, oh! spence! your present finally came!” your excited voice caught his attention as he looked back to see you struggling to carry a large cardboard box into the living room. he rushed to help you, but you shooed him away, telling him to go sit on the couch and that you’d bring it over to him. “close your eyes and open your hands,” your sentence had him grinning like a little kid. “now, i once remember a certain doctor told me that lucille ball was the savior of star trek and i have decided to honor her decision.”
“no way,” a kiddish giggle escaped his lips. he cracked an eye open, but wasn’t able to see anything because you frantically ran to place your own hands over his eyes. spencer huffed, tickling your hands with his eyelashes as he blinked repeatedly.
you squealed when his fingers met your sides, cringing away with laughter. “no peeking! it’s a surprise until i say so, spence!” he jutted his bottom lip out, surrendering and putting his palms up once more. as you placed the box in his waiting grasp, his eyes shot open. much to your shock, spencer took the box and put it on the couch next to him. looking at you with pure adoration in his gaze, he cupped your face and crashed his lips into yours.
“i love you,” he mumbled into the kiss.
“i love you more.”
spencer likes to take you to quiet places, like coffee shops and libraries, but there’s always the occasion when you two will go out with the team n have a couple dozen drinks get a little wildt
one time, a night ended with you both in morgan’s backseat, sleeping soundly on each other. when you two arrived back at your apartment garcia and morgan practically had to carry you guys up the stairs
you like to take him to public, populated places but do quiet things, like going to the park to play chess or going to the aquarium to visit the fish
he really likes to watch you do things
anything from cooking dinner late at night to getting dressed early in the morning, spencer’s eyes are on you
he likes to watch you do mundane things because it makes the horrors he sees on a daily basis a little less terrible, but ! it’s also just because he loves you vv much
spencer is super duper protective of you! when he finally gets a break from work, there’s nothing you can do that could shake him from your side. he’s stuck to you like Glue.
BUT! you know how much he loves his job, and he really appreciates how much you accommodate for his absences
he’s missed:
anniversaries
birthdays
holidays
it doesn’t really matter though because when he eventually shows up at home, there’s no better feeling. him being present at birthdays, anniversaries, and holidays was never as important as him coming home safe and sound
but, there’s always gonna be a time where he doesn’t come home safe
and you’re there for him then, too
sitting at his beside, you had a death grip on his hand as you slipped into intermittent sleep. a hand on your shoulder snapped you awake, as you stared directly into jj’s sympathetic eyes. “y/n,” she murmured, her voice tender, motherly even, “you need to get some real sleep. spence will be fine for the night.”
“jj,” you mumbled through sleep, “you know i can’t leave him.” she nodded, gently brushing pieces of hair from your face. her eyes widened as her gaze moved to spencer. soft fingers caressed your cheek; you turned to face the direction of your wounded boyfriend only to be met with a tired grin.
his eyes were silken, glazed over like two pieces of brown marble. they shone in the white light of the hospital room—just looking at them caused tears to collect in your ducts. you teetered on the edge of falling apart, the act of spencer waking up distracting you from jj slipping out of the room.
“hey,” his hoarse whisper echoed in the small space, and you lost it. bursting into tears, you practically leaped onto him, sobbing into his chest. spencer’s hand traced patterns into your back as you cried; he truthfully was in a lot of pain, but he wasn’t about to tell you that. when you pulled away, his heart ached at the sight of your puffy, reddened face. tears blossomed in his own eyes, the impact of the situation finally hitting him like a ton of bricks. he could’ve died—he could’ve never seen you again. it made him sick to his stomach. “y/n,” he breathed, “i’m sorry. i’m so sorr—.”
you cut him off with a kiss, gripping his face while trying to pull him infinitely closer. “don’t apologize, spence. you have nothing to be sorry for.” your words made his eyelids flutter closed as he listened. “spence, just promise that you’ll keep coming back to me, okay?”
“i promise.”
when everyone is off, spencer rly rly enjoys seeing you interact with his team
it just makes him so genuinely happy when he gets to watch you joke around with emily and jj and penelope and every time you hug each member of his team goodbye and hello ,, he feels so much like a family
ofc !! speaking of family—spencer’s mom!! she loves you and welcomed you into their little family instantly
what spencer appreciates the most was that when he finally told you abt his mother and her schizophrenia/alzheimers, you were completely understanding and were 100% there for both him and his mother
it was rly important to him that his mother liked you, and when he talked w her while you were in the bathroom probably freaking out and she said she really liked you, a Huge weight was lifted off his shoulder
and ! others that are rly important to spencer are his three godsons’ families
jj and will as well as morgan and savannah all love you very much and are happy to welcome you into their families
okay now ,, hear me out—embarrassing spencer at work is simultaneously one of his favorite and least favorite things so you make sure to do it often
spencer had told you that he’d be holed in at the office doing paperwork all day, and you knew for a fact that he wouldn’t remember to get himself any lunch. so, you took it upon yourself to order his favorite indian takeout and bring it to the building. the decadent smell filled your nose as you finally arrived and picked up the white bag.
walking in, you headed to the elevator and were surprised to see derek in the lobby, receiving a kiss from savannah before she passed you on the way to the exit. she gave you a fleeting smile and a touch on the arm while derek called out to you. “hey, pretty girl! what are you doin’ here?” his words made you smile, and when you finally reached him, you gestured to the food in your hands. “ah,” he nodded, “pretty boy forgot his lunch.”
“that, and i like to embarrass him—just a little,” you tacked the last part on with a chuckle as derek placed a brotherly hand on your shoulder. he pushed in the button and motioned for you to enter ahead of him. the ride up to the team’s floor was spent in comfortable silence. morgan played a game on his phone until the ding brought him out of his cellular trance. garcia spotted you the moment you stepped out of the elevator and she ran over, enveloping you in a hug warm enough to melt ice burgs. “hi, pen,” you giggled, giving her a kiss on the cheek, “i’m here to bring my oh-so-smart, oh-so-scatterbrained genius boy his lunch.”
penelope’s laughter echoed behind you as she followed you and derek through the glass doors. when you picked spencer’s form out of the bustling bullpen, your face lit up like a meteor shower. it was possible to see galaxies in your eyes whenever spencer was in your general vicinity. “oh!” you sighed dramatically, pulling almost everyone from their midday work haze, “there is the absolute love of my life, the person i never want to leave my side, my one and only—spencer reid!” guffawing and small snickers circulate around the work space—the day had apparently been so slow that hotch cracked a grin at your antics. but, you saw nothing besides the dusty pink that painted your boy wonder’s cheeks.
“you forgot your lunch again, reid?” emily’s voice sounds from across floor, “i’m starting to think you like y/n coming in here everyday.” the rosy pink of his face and neck seemed to morph into a dark shade of crimson. he reached out to take the food, but you pulled it away, tapping your cheek and signaling what the price of the food was. by now, most of the other agents had gone back to work. however, spencer’s team was thoroughly enjoying the blush he’s taken on. quickly, your boyfriend pecks your cheek and snatches the food from your hands.
“love you, spence,” you practically sang after placing a kiss on his forehead. he stuffed food into his face, mumbling a loud love you, too through the takeout.
nighttime always brings out soft spencer
i mean,, he’s always soft,, but nighttime just Hits Different you know??
at night, whenever spence is able to spend time with you at home—his hands are all over you
whether your cooking, cleaning, doing work, or just watching tv on the couch, you and him are inseparable.
he’s rly not one for a lot of pda outdoors and in public—obviously, he’ll hold your hand, gives you hugs, etc but when you two are behind closed doors he’s extra cuddly
spencer leaves kisses wherever he can reach, your neck, you stomach, your cheeks, until he makes it to your lips and places a sweet peck on them
BET SPENCER LOVES TO TAKE BATHS W YOU !!
most of the time, it’s not sexual. he just relishes in the feeling of the water enveloping the two of you in a soft hug. the smell of shampoo floods his nose as you sit behind him, gently massaging your fingers into his scalp. it always makes him feel brand new once you both finally step out.
spencer doesn’t try to hide himself from you. standing there with nothing but love in his eyes, he takes in all of you. peppered kisses tickle as he plants as many on you as he can before you get dressed in pajamas
he truly can’t stand being away from you for too long
it really does drain him having to be away from you for long periods of time—two weeks is the Max of what he can take, but sometimes, he’s away longer than that
and he just has to deal
sometimes ,, although it’s a RARE sometimes ,, you two fight, but he never ever leaves for a case or for anything rly without telling you that he loves you
it all started when he was late for yet another dinner. you knew how much he cared for the people that he worked with and the people that he saved, but this was the third time in a month that he missed a date. the waitress tried not to let pity seep through her gaze, but it was inevitable. your forlorn appearance made her slip you the check with a small smile, asking for your money in the politest way possible. silent rage boiled inside of you as you signed your name on a copy of your receipt. undoubtedly, you were going to annihilate him when he got home.
you entered your apartment, muttering all types of profanities under your breath. it wasn’t until you turned into your bedroom that you saw spencer—a bright smile on his face and a bouquet in his hands. “who are those for?” you spat, the acid of your voice making your boyfriend flinch away. spencer’s bottom lip jutted out slightly, his eyes searching, trying to figure out why you didn’t accept his flowery apology.
“they’re for you,” he mumbled, casting his gaze to the floor, “i’m sorry.” you huffed out a breath, crossing your arms over your chest. sorry didn’t feel like it meant much when it came up constantly. walking over to spencer, you wrapped your arms around him, placing a hand on the back of his head and pulling it to the crook of your neck. you planted kisses along his shoulder, sending shivers down his spine.
“spencer. i waited. i waited for over an hour for you to show up,” you breathed next to his ear. spencer’s body deflated into yours and a sigh escaped his lips. he tugged you into his body, attempting to bring your natural warmth closer. he murmured over a thousand i’m sorry’s along the column of your neck, placing kisses whenever he needed to stop to catch his breath.
his phone vibrated against your stomach, and you feel the gentle flutter of his eyelashes against your bare skin as he leans his forehead into your shoulder, letting out a frustrated groan. garcia’s caller id mocked him as he stared reproachfully at his device. “hello,” he paused. “yeah. mhm. right now? garcia—we just got back?!” you heard her apologetic sound of garcia over the call, and you placed a small peck on spencer’s nose.
“y/n, love,” his voice was somewhat pained. he didn’t want to leave, “i-i’m sorry. i’m so sorry.” it was rare that spencer ever used nicknames, but this one warmed you from the inside out. exhaling knowingly, you let go of him, accepting his latest apology with a tiny nod. reaching out once more, he drew you back into him, enveloping you in a tight hug and swaying from side to side. “you know i love you, right? i love you so much, and i’m sorry that i’m missing a lot of the time.” his words rumble comfortingly against your skin, a little bit like the sound of rain showers pouring on the roof.
“i know you do. i love you, too, and i’ll be here when you get back.”
it’s not until he’s with his team that he knows
and by knows?? what do i mean?? I MEAN knowing you’re the one
the one he wants to spend the rest of his life with, the one he wants to cherish and hold and love forever, the one he wants to stay
a lot of people have come and gone in spencer’s life, but you always assure him that you’ll be there—no matter the trials or tribulations, you’ll stand by him—always
but n e ways ,, back to the team !
it’s a nice night out,, as opposed to getting only a bit wasted at bars ,, everyone, and i mean everyone was at rossi’s house, enjoying a nice italian dinner
you and spencer show up, looking stunning and not even the slightest overdressed ,, you’re wearing a simple purple evening gown to match his suit and tie
the both of you talk around, visiting savannah and morgan, jj and will, hotch, emily, rossi and krystall, penelope, tara, luke, matt and kristy
as per usual, spencer’s eyes are focused on you—so focused that he doesn’t even sense rossi and morgan’s looming presence behind him
derek clapped his hand onto your boy genius’ shoulder, but it wasn’t enough to tug him from his haze. spencer stared at you, laughing with penelope and emily, and he couldn’t bring himself to do anything but. rossi looked from reid to you and there was suddenly a sparkle in his eyes. he could see it—the way reid’s hazel gaze shone in the dim, atmospheric dinner lights of his mansion—and, it was obvious. the love that radiated from spencer was undeniable.
“kid,” morgan’s voice finally broke him out of his reverie, “you’re in love. i can see it.” a blush crept up reid’s neck to eventually reach his cheeks, dusting his expression with a saccharine pink. he nodded slightly, ducking his head and scratching his neck. “ah, reid—i knew you loved her, but i didn’t know you loved her.” glancing back at him, you made eye contact and beamed—the teasing of his previous colleague falling completely from his mind.
“you’re right,” he muttered, turning to his friend, “you’re right.” his repetition was louder as he launched into action, walking over to you with strength in his step. morgan’s teasing seemed to be the liquid courage that he needed. tapping your shoulder, spencer brought you away from your conversation with the ladies of the bau and took you out onto rossi’s balconey.
quizzically, your eyes bored into his nervously buzzed frame. spencer gripped your hands, lifting them up to his lips while finally meeting your gaze. “spencer,” you narrowed you eyes, “what’s going on?” smiling against your knuckles, he pulled something velvet and square from his pocket at an agonizingly slow pace. mouthing gaping, opening and closing over and over again, you searched for the right words. the love of your life stooped to one knee and popped the question.
“all this time, i’d thought that love was complicated. but now, something made me realize that it isn’t. you made me realize that it isn’t. it’s simple. as simple as knowing that you’re the one i love, you’re the one i want ...” he choked on his words, tears forming in the corner of his eyes, “y/n ... you’re the one i want to come back to. always. so ...” spencer flicked open the small box, revealing a gorgeous diamond, “will you marry me?”
various whoops and cheers were heard from the inside as you rocketed yourself into your lover, nodding your head with millions of words spilling from your lips.
it was simple.
it was love.
spencer loves you vv much and the feelings are reciprocated tenfold
you listen to his ramblings, you help him through his headaches, you comfort him after nightmares, you love him unconditionally.
you are his everything
he is yours
what more could he ask for?

The One Where Reid Is Reading Harry Potter
Yet another silly fluffy “what it says on the tin” ficlet. Spencer Reid x Reader, sort of? Unnamed OFC, Reader who likes Harry Potter, whatever. ~662 words, rated G.
(Don’t support TERFs, find you a boyfriend who can recite the books from memory.)
Tumblr media
JJ snuck another glance over at Spencer, who was reading in the corner of the jet, and then turned back to Emily. “No, you’re right, something’s up.”
“He doesn’t look upset, though,” Emily muttered.
“Yeah. His mouth’s not doing the thing. What’s he reading?”
Emily had a better view; she looked over, trying to be discreet about the fact that they were being totally fucking creepy.
“He’s got his knees tucked up, I can’t get a good look at the cover, but I think it’s some kind of textbook,” she whispered.
“Why’s he being all squirrelly about it, then? It’s not like any of us would voluntarily ask about that.”
“Wait a second,” Emily said, squinting. “Is he… oh my god. He’s hiding another book behind that one.”
“Wow, that’s really not up to his usual level of sneaky.” JJ looked like the curiosity was making her physically itchy.
“I’ll ask, hang on,” Emily said, and got up, walking down the aisle.
Spencer had chosen the corner seat, with his back to the wall and only one seat facing him, and he’d put his bag up on that one as a clear sign that he wanted to be left alone. When Emily approached, he looked up nervously, like she’d caught him doing something wrong.
“Hey, Spence,” she said casually, and leaned against the seat opposite him. “What are you reading?”
“Just brushing up on some string theory,” Spencer said, with a smile, holding the book up quickly so she could get a glimpse of the title.
“Oh yeah? Can I see?” Emily asked, and he looked from the book to her and back again, equal parts panicked and confused.
“Um, actually, I’m right in the middle of a really interesting part, do you mind?”
“What are you actually reading, Spence?” she pressed.
He made a face, mumbling something unintelligible down at his lap.
“Little louder,” Emily said, laughing. She crouched next to his seat, leaning in to hear him.
Spencer dropped the textbook and showed her what was hiding behind it: a brand new paperback copy of “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.”
“Why are you hiding that? We’re not gonna judge you for wanting to branch out a little bit,” she said, mystified.
Spencer shrugged. “I sort of promised someone I’d read them.”
Emily took in the sheepish but happy expression on Spencer’s face. “Your girlfriend.”
Spencer sighed. “Yes. Okay? She really loves these books. I wanted to surprise her. We’re supposed to be spending the weekend together, and I’m meeting her right after we land, so…”
“That’s really sweet, Spence,” Emily said, trying not to smile in case he thought she was laughing at him. “Why are you embarrassed about wanting to have things in common?”
“When one of us spends the night, we started - I read to her, while she falls asleep,” he said shyly. “Or… recite is more accurate, I guess. She says it helps her relax. And I like doing it, it’s just… it’s nice.”
“Aww,” Emily said, wrinkling her nose. She couldn’t help it; it had been a fucking real-life rom-com, him and this girl, and this was (as Garcia would put it) the adorable cherry on top of a big romantic sundae of adorableness.
“These are her favorite books,” Spencer continued. “So I thought… I just thought she might like it.”
“She’ll be so happy, Spence,” Emily said reassuringly.
He beamed at her. “You think? That’s not silly?”
Emily rolled her eyes. “No, Spence. That’s not silly at all.”
“Part of me still worries I’m going to get it wrong.” Spencer shrugged. “I know it’s not a normal way to show someone you care about them. I think she’ll get it, though.”
“She must be pretty special.”
He smiled, soft and tentative. “She is.”
Emily fought the urge to hug the shit out of him. “For what it’s worth? I think she’s the luckiest girl in the world, Spence. And I can’t wait to meet her.”

Living with Matthew Gray Gubler during quarantine would include...
@drspencr did a Spencer Reid version of this! (You should read it, its adorable) So I decided to do an MGG version (with permission ofc).
Tumblr media
- 2 weeks into quarantine and he was already planning Halloween costumes.
- Yes, it was still March
- You knew that the man whistled but man was that his favorite pastime lately. Lost count of how many songs you've had stuck in your head courtesy of your lovely boyfriend
- There was quite a scare about a month in
- Matthew had a BAD cold and you had thought for sure that you were part of an unlucky bunch who had caught it
- But after two days and 4 bowls of Chicken Noodle Soup, his cough had ceased and he was back to being his normal dumbass self
- He has you posing in numerous weird ways for his abstract and odd ways of drawing
- These soon filled up one of your walls in the bedroom
- If anyone were to see that wall, they would probably think you guys were insane or something but in reality, you were just so bored
- You had both done quite the kimono modelling/photoshoot
- Seeing you in a kimono got him a little excited if ya know what I mean
- But that's a story for another time
- Though it was a constant reminder when he would place the scandalous polaroids around the house where he knew you would find them
- He begs you to let him buy a Kimono Dragon
- Which you correct him, because it's komodo
- And you obviously say no, because where would you keep that thing??
- "The closet babe!!"
- "For the LAST time. Komodo Dragon baby. Not Kimono. He cannot sleep and eat and live safely in a closet. Do you want your kimonos ripped to shreds?"
- He pouts for a bit
- You had listened to the Alvin and the Chipmunks version of 'Funky Town' so many times that you sung it in a very high pitched voice naturally now
- Popping in on zoom calls with the Criminal Minds cast
- Helping Matthew come up with new ideas for his stuffed animals
- "What about a Walrus!"
- "Yes perfect! I can make his little tusks. It'll be so cute! Thank you!"
- Smooches
- On a more HORNY note
- Remember all those times where Matthew was filming and there was NEVER time to get laid
- Well, now is the time
- And trust me, you took advantage of it
- There were finally days were you could just stay in bed and be with eachother
- Matthew loved cuddling, he was so grateful that he didn't have to stay six feet away from you
- Because he could barely stay six inches away from you
- "So much for social distance." You mumbled between kisses
- "There is no fucking way I could handle that."
- Making him a Rumple Buttercup mask
- He nearly cried when you gave it to him
- Begging him for a whole week to binge Criminal Minds with you
- "Please, please, please? I just wanna watch my baby in action!"
- Truth be told you hadn't been able to watch the show fully. Just a few episodes here and there
- "Why watch that when I'm right here?"
- He ended up giving in and watching it with you. Pointing out the ones he directed, making you love them 6x more
- There was oh so much baking
- The amount of brownies you had stored in your freezer for later was sinful
- It was a good thing that you guys didn't live in an apartment building or have extremely close neighbors because music was blasting so often
- There was so much dancing
- You had warned him to not dislocate his knee again while dancing
- Which was the real reason he had to be on crutches in season 5
- At one point he had you put on his, as the fans called them, director scarves
- That was another great fashion show for the polaroid camera
- Having socially distant picnics with his family
- Watching the classical horror movies that he loves
- So you buy him some of The Shining merch on amazon
- Not only watching horror movies, but watching Disney movies
- Matthew is not secretive for his love of Disney movies
- And Star Wars
- Him doing magic for you and only showing you how to do about 2 of the tricks because ya know
- A magician never reveals his secrets
- You rolled your eyes numerous times at this
- Taking long baths together
- Let's just say the bathroom was steamy for more than just one reason
- Taking over his twitter for a day and saying weird shit
- But later posting a picture of you
- "Can we please pick a stray dog off of the street? I need another living thing here."
- "Only if we can call it Edgar."
- "As in 'Allen Poe'?"
- "Duh."
- Wearing so many of his clothes
- Like
- So many
- And maybe putting him in one of your shirts just to see him in a crop top
- It was a little hotter than you expected
- Making him read Rumple Buttercup to you more than once
- You just love it so much
- "And that's when Rumple realized, everyone was weird!"
- You may or may not have put makeup on the poor man
- He was so reluctant but when he saw himself in the mirror
- "Damn I am SMOKIN!"
- Making youtube videos because he "needs content" and "is bored"
- When you had moved in, you brought your PS4, this had Sims 4 on it
- You made your family on it
- He insisted on getting a dog
- "We are living out the real dream! Look at all the tiny Gubes y/n! Look at 'em!"
- Life is a never-ending hug with this man
- And that's how you liked it
- You wouldn't wanna be stuck in the house with anyone else.
Doesn't nearly do a justice compared to the QUEENS but I enjoyed making it. Hope you guys liked it too. Requests are open!! (You can also request for a full fic of one of these plot points 👀)I JUST REACHED 100 FOLLOWERS WHAT DO I DO

Paris In The Rain
Reid x ballerina! She/her! Reader
I say she/her bc yn gets the honor to play Clara in the Nutcracker in a Christmas event in Paris!!! Idk I'm feeling Christmasy
In which the team had NO idea how good you were at standing on your tippy toes
Tumblr media
You and your bfs schedules we're like,,,, close to the same
Bc you had to practice!!!
And sometimes travel for shows
I was also a ballerina don't question me
So you both came home around the same time
Sometimes you came home later than him
A girl gotta practice a lot amirght
So you sometimes,,,,,
Ok most times
Came home really late
Don't quote me on that I had to go to school and practice all the time so it was hectic but issok bc I dropped out 😎🤘
And so Spence barely got to like
See you
Everyday
But recently
It was worse now
Bc you got the lead!!!!
In the Nutcracker!!!!!!
And so
You had to fly to Paris
BUT
Since it was around Christmas
And for some reason
Crime was low LOW low
The bau got a vacation
And Spencer was like
"Yo you guys wanna watch the Nutcracker ballet?"
They were like
"Uh, ,, ,,, why tho"
And he's like
"Idk it's in Paris"
And they had their bags packed in SECONDS
Ok not seconds but you know what I mean
Everyone was really excited
Bc,,,, Paris!!!
But ok anyways
Don't ask why Reid didn't tell anyone you were performing
It was bc he was shy and he knew he'd get roasted!!!
Bc you're 🥵
And he's 😳
He's perfect though
But the team will roast
Haters gonna hate
Head up king 😔✊
BUT OKOKOKOKOKOK
THEY ARRIVED IN PARIS
You'd gotten there a lil bit earlier bc you had to practice
It was the day before the performance
And everyone was exploring and stuff
But they were also like
🧐
Spencer,,,, why aren't you at the same hotel as us?
And he's like,,,,,,,,
"Haha I'm totally not at my gfs luxury hotel that they got her bc she's the lead in the thing we're watching tomorrow night WHAT are you talking about"
No one questioned anything
Bc,,,,, no kids,,,,, no spouses,,,,,, just,,,,, paris
Lmao sorry will you're gonna need to take care of the kids 🥰
Lots of love
OK ANYWAYS
BACK TO YOU
you were practicing and stuff
All h*cking day
So when you got to your room
To see Spencer taking a nap on the bed
You were like :((!!!
My baby!!!!!
And you put your stuff down
Took a shower
Ate
And laid down in his arms
He,,,, ofc,,,,, woke up
And he was
ELATED
To see you
"Hi baby!!!! I missed you!!"
And you're like
"I missed you too!!!! Omfg ily"
Idk I have commitment issues I've never been in a serious relationship
So you went to sleep cuddling
And talking
All the cute shit
And the next morning
You were up at like,,,,,, 6 am???
And so was he
Bc he wanted to have breakfast with you 🥺🥺
So you guys went to get breakfast on your way to the place you were performing at
And you did
But it started to rain!!!
Alexa play Paris in the rain by lauv
But you guys decided to pull out the umbrella
And walk around
While the sun rose
🥺
I want that
BUT ANYWAYS
When it was time for you to go
You said goodbye
And he said it back
And so off he was
"Good morning!"
Omfg the team was finna beat his ass
Like bro chill the sun JUST rose
Calm tf down
On god
But they went and explored
Got lost a few times
Ok MANY times but same difference
And at the end of the day
They all got dressed up
Looking hella fancy
Fancy by twice soty 2019
And went to watch the show
YOU DID SO WELL
Perfect
Show stopping
Amazing
Never been done before
And then 🤩
It was over
And they all wanted to congratulate you and stuff
And they told spence
They were like
"Hey let's congratulate her"
And he was like
"Wait what why we already threw roses wym"
Bc he thought they NEW LMFAO POOR BABY
"Bc she just finished performing and she did amazing AND we have manners"
And he's like
"Oh right LMFAO"
So they went to congratulate you and the rest of the people
And ok so, Spencer had forgotten to tell you one tiny little witty itty bitty detail
That being
He didn't tell anyone that you were together
So when you JUMPED into his arms and kissed his face all over,,,,,
Safe to say they were like
👁👄👁
What the h*ck
And your were like
OMFG YOU BITCH I KNEW I WAS JUST THE SIDE PIECE YOU LOVE THEM MORE
And they were like
Oh we know 😎🤘
We're the homies
BUT ANYWAYS LMFAO
He explained to the team
Which took you in
Also took you to dinner somewhere fancy
It was quite cute ngl
After that
They all went home for the holidays
You had to stay back bc you had a few more shows
And Spence stayed with you bc he loves you
OMFG NYE KISS WITH HIM :(((((!!
Ugh ok
