Hey. Kiara sure likes ohagi, doesn’t she?

It’s a cute quirk, but it’s also deeply, deeply tragic in a very subtle way that's hard to piece together unless you know about japanese sweets or Kiara’s personal history.

So let’s learn a little bit about ohagi, and why Kiara loves it so much!

Ohagi, and the very similar sweet botamochi, are traditional japanese sweets made from glutinous rice with a coating of sweet red bean paste and, optionally, a dusting of something else, often ground black sesame or soybean flower.

Here’s some that I made for Kiara’s birthday last year! They’re very doable and pretty tasty.

Higan is a Japanese buddhist festival celebrated around the spring and autumn equinoxes, and ohagi or botamochi is eaten as a ritual food during that equinox. Sources I found indicated that the difference between ohagi vs botamochi is not easy to pin down, but some say that the sweet is called ohagi when eaten for the autumn equinox. (This is beside the point, but the red spider lily, with which Kiara is strongly associated, also blooms around that time.) Kiara was born as the heir and savior to a mountaintop Buddhist cult. Her upbringing was deeply abusive, and despite the fatal illness she suffered from, for which her community and her father gave her no treatment, she was denied any semblance of a normal childhood while she was molded to be their perfect savior.

Nothing that inspires attachment was allowed to her. The book of fairy tales she ended up with was deemed inappropriate and taken from her because she spent too much time reading it, liked it too much.

It’s hard to imagine her being allowed sweets like a normal kid, since they’re designed for stimulating flavor.

But, of course, ohagi isn’t just a sweet. It’s a ritual food. So they couldn’t deny her that, could they?.

As a child, those 7 days surrounding the equinox twice a year were probably the only time she ever got to have sweets.

And of course, she probably learned to be very careful about not letting on that she was enjoying herself. Not overindulging.

Like fairy tales, it was a tiny piece of happiness that accidentally slipped through the cracks and gave her something to latch onto. And, like fairy tales, she carries it with her into adulthood.

It’s not coincidence that she makes ohagi and tea instead of chocolates for Valentine’s. In this new place where she can heal a little bit from her past and grow, she takes the chance to make ohagi herself, instead of waiting for the proper holiday; and to share them with someone else as a thing she loves, instead of hiding them away.

will gradually visit you more until you stop flinching whenever he approaches you. he can tell you're intimidated by him because of his personality and notorious reputation.

it's definitely hard for akutagawa to be soft with you, since he's a rough person, but he tries his best to be gentle with you.

shows his care through actions more than words (sharing food with you, doing constant check-ins, guiding your back when walking with you, etc.)

promises threatens to kill those who have harmed and harassed you in the past.

becomes overprotective over you, getting mad when anyone--even jokingly--teases you.

To no one’s surprise the conversation ends with him taking you on every surface of your apartment

Hours later you’re cuddling naked on your couch, resting your head on his muscular chest and listening to his heartbeat

“So like… are we engaged now?” you ask looking up at him

He laughs sweetly

“No, not yet. I have to actually propose first.”

You think back to your conversation earlier when you first said you’d want to marry him

“So that didn’t count before?”

His heart breaks at how little you ask for

“No, that didn’t count.” He kisses your head, “I’m going to take you out somewhere nice, give you a proper proposal, with a nice ring.”

You get butterflies thinking about it

You can’t believe how much he does for you

Dating Todd Tolansky Headcanons

Keep in mind, this is my personal opinion. So if you think any of these headcanons are wrong, feel free to share your own! I'm asexual and Todd is a teenager, so no NSFW. I know I'm cringe, and there's no insult you could say to me that I haven't said to myself! This is also the first time I've ever posted on Tumblr, so I'm sorry for any mistakes.

With all that out of the way, let's start;

• Genuinely shocked if you don't reject him. Like:

Todd: Hey gorgeous, how about we go out tonight?

Y/N: Sure.

Todd: ... seriously?

•Would literally give you the shirt off of his back to keep you warm. But, because of his mutation, he's much more sensitive to the cold. So he's shivering and refusing to take his jacket back, no matter how hard you try to make him take it.

• Hopeless romantic and actually a gentleman. Never lets you open a door, and always makes a big show of it. He'll be bowing and kissing your hand and talking about how "a beautiful person should be treated"

• Puts so much effort into your dates. Flowers, chocolate, gifts, the whole nine yards.

• Blushes a lot. Then tries to deny that he's blushing. But he definitely is.

• His friends constantly make fun of him and say that you deserve better. Todd will love you even more if you defend him.

• Wanda actually doesn't mind you. She likes that you got Todd off of her back. Even if you do gush about Todd a lot, she likes having you around. Wanda would kill Todd if he ever hurt you.

• I think Pietro would flirt with you to make Todd mad.

•PDA. Everywhere, all the time, no matter what. He literally doesn't care. He likes showing you off, bragging about how such a gorgeous person is dating him.

• Loves cuddling. He just sleeps so much better when you're in his arms.

• Kisses literally everywhere. Neck, lips, forehead, everywhere.

• "I love you more" fights. Will never let you win, because he just loves you that much.

• He will absolutely melt if you play with his hair.

• Always offers to pay for everything, even if he's dirt poor.

• Actually a pretty good cook, and he will definitely brag about it.

• Constant compliments. He loves everything about you.

• Most people call him Toad or some other insult, so he loves it when you actually call him Todd. You make him feel like a person.

• Cheesy date nights. Movie marathons, picnics, dinner dates, milkshakes with two straws, etc. Usually watches horror movies in an attempt to scare you into his arms. Won't admit that he's terrified.

• Calls you every pet name under the sun. Like, he literally can't go a sentence without using a new one. Classics of course, like honey and darling. But prefers super cheesy names like lovebug or sweetums (this one is actually canon)

• DEFINITELY does that "oh I'm yawning but I'm actually putting my arm around my date" move. He thinks he's so slick too.

• All in all, he's extremely cheesy because he loves you so much. And he's totally clueless when it comes to romance, so he learns all of his moves from romance movies.

I'll probably make more of these, because I'm totally obsessed with him and literally no one else talks about him.

wot rewatch 1x2: shadow's waiting

Continuing my pre-s2 rewatch with the second episode, Shadow's Waiting. <3

spoilers for all of season one plus through The Fires of Heaven in the book series

The way the Whitecloaks are set up here does feel like Rafe & co were pulling a lot from how they were portrayed in New Spring, where the newly-raised Sisters get warned that an arrow in the back kills Aes Sedai as easily as anyone else. But this cold-open is brutal and also sets up the stakes for Moiraine later in the episode - this is the kind of death she would get from Valda if he were able.

Valda's special bird breakfast was a gift from the "Lord" to congratulate him on his "victory". Which Lord? Presumably not Bornhald, given the way he behaves around Valda later. The victory is, presumably, the capture of this poor Yellow Ajah Sister.

Since I was recently thinking about forkroot in my story... I wonder if it'll get introduced via the Whitecloaks in the show. Ronde was a Yellow's eyes-and-ears in Amadicia (Whitecloak country). But I don't think the Whitecloaks have forkroot yet, or he would have just dosed Egwene with it when he has her prisoner.

I love the credits sequence so much. <3

The scenery is just so gorgeous.

It makes a lot of sense that the kiddos don't challenge Moiraine until after they've both a. reached a measure of safety by being on the other side of the river and b. saw what happened with the ferry. They are village kids and the ruthless calculus of war is not something they've had to think about in their lives. Of course they'll think "there had to be a better way".

So now all the kids have a chance to breathe and to actually think. Rand wants a plan so that they can try to keep each other safe if that stops being a priority of Moiraine's -- and that is a worry of his that kinda does get proven true at the end of the season when the Red Ajah is sent after Mat by Moiraine.

Poor Rand is also very much not ready to think about one of them being the Dragon especially because, well, he's already suspecting that it would be him and desperately not wanting it to be.

And Egwene is already embracing the idea that maybe it is one of them, so maybe they can help save people.

Mat trying to break the tension and play peacemaker.

Here is where we get the difference between Egwene and the others -- it isn't that they doubt Moiraine and she doesn't, it's that Egwene gets an explanation when she expresses her doubts to Moiraine during their nighttime conversation. Moiraine actually walks Egwene through her thought process here so that Egwene will understand why she made the choices that she did.

Moiraine's explanation of the Oaths also puts Valda's "victory" from the cold open into perspective -- unless she knew her life was in imminent danger, that Yellow Aes Sedai could not use the One Power against Valda. Some "victory".

Moiraine must have been so relieved when she realized that Egwene can channel. It made it that much more likely that they were lucky enough to have the Dragon reborn as someone who would not fall to the corruption. Like, I 100% understand why Moiraine wants Egwene to be TDR but, in her eagerness to have the less dangerous choice as the Dragon, she treated the qualms of the boys too carelessly and dismissively. They all deserved the explanation that she was willing to give Egwene.

Poor Rand. Poor Egwene. I understand both sides of this -- Egwene was seeking familiar comfort but... you literally JUST broke up with him. Rand is not being an "asshole" to want some space.

Moiraine is demanding information but not giving them sufficient answers when Rand tries to press her in return. And tbh I think part of Egwene's anger here is because Rand rejected her last night and she's hurt over it. But Mat is the one who is able to talk Rand down and get him to play ball.

Once again, how similarly Rand and Egwene are costumed really stands out -- brown coat over a blue top. Mirrors! Co-protagonists!

The encounter with the Whitecloaks accomplishes several things: we see that the Whitecloaks feel free to act as an authority in lands that are not their own; Valda sees their faces so that he'll recognize Perrin & Egwene later; and we see that there are other Whitecloaks who appear to disagree with at least some of Valda/the Questioners beliefs (Bornhald telling Moiraine to seek out Aes Sedai healing). Plus there's a lot of tension in the scene because we saw the cold open.

Love the Manetheren song scene. And it's another example of Mat working to help the emotional state of the group. And I love hearing the story from Moiraine. I teared up on rewatch too.

Timing note: "I haven't seen any Trollocs for days", Lan says.

Again, we get to Rand and Egwene's further discussion and I can see both sides: Rand would like to be given space to process but Egwene wants reassurances that in a world that has changed so much Rand still cares about her. But Egwene has been the one sending mixed signals, not Rand. I understand why she has but it was definitely absolutely baffling to me when I hopped online and saw Rand being taken to task for holding on and being 'clingy'.

Perrin gets wolf healing and we get a hint here that Something Supernatural is up with Perrin but it's now been explicitly linked to wolves.

Love pretty much the entire Shadar Logoth section and Mat is a lot less randomly treasure-hungry and naive in this version. It accomplishes what it needs to do in splitting the party and there's a great creepy vibe.

It also gives us some nice character moments. Perrin and Mat's conversation about Laila is really sweet, and again shows us that Mat is very emotionally sensitive to others. And Rand and Egwene's silent moment together is also sweet.

Rand really likes to go the high places to think. Chills on the mountain in the first episode and seeks out a tower with the view of the dead city in this one.

Giving Perrin a weapon that is primarily a tool is also very thematic for him. That's part of the struggle for him -- between choosing a weapon that he sees only as a weapon and one that is primarily a tool but can be used as a weapon if needed. Knife here rather than a hammer but it still fits the themes for Perrin.

So many of the criticisms of the show baffled me and here's another one: did the people who said it was "too clean" watch past the big village festival? They are showing wear and tear already and it gets worse in upcoming episodes.

Poor horse. Being eaten by a tendril of darkness and dissolving into dust seems a rough way to go.

I also like the choice of darkness as opposed to fog, partly so that people don't associate the fog of the Heroes of the Horn with Shadar Logoth lol.

Party split successfully accomplished!

Weapon as tool: we see Rand use his sword not as a sword but as a crowbar to help him and Mat escape Shadar Logoth.

And Nynaeve (not dead) shows up as our surprise ending!

Plot twist for the venti one-shot: (y/n) always put blood in the sweets because she is just as crazy as him. It was just this time that there was more than intended because of the accident. She can't see him physically but can 'give' a bit of herself every time she makes sweets. It's her way of showing Venti that she is always with him. ;)

I read a post from a while ago that said the reason why Elain gave Azriel ear plugs was because she might have an inkling that he might be near a lightsinger. One thing I’ve noticed some E/riel’s do is when Gwyn is brought up about being a lightsinger they say she’s evil, but if there are theories that Elain herself might be one, then lightsinger’s aren’t bad (I’ve actually seen some E/riel’s come up with Elain being a lightsinger theory I’m dead serious). That Elain can sing to or call different things like people, animals, shadows and life/death. It’s like they’re picking and choosing what benefits their ship. How her seer abilities are letting her see this, and not to say that can’t be true, and she avoids Lucien because she sees that they’re not meant to be.

Another post somewhere said Elain might have accidentally thrown Bryce into Prythian while trying to scry for a Dread Trove object or Gwydion and that to get back to Midgard, Bryce will need Elain’s help (this post & theory came out before HOFAS so I’m curious to know their thoughts now🤡). I’ve seen a lot of e/riel’s say that Elain is a spy (and she’ll help Azriel search for the Dread Troves), but if she was then wouldn’t her sisters know or have some inclination? I feel like most E/riel’s only care about self inserting themselves in Elain, for whatever reason, and don’t really care about her. I don’t think Elain will be evil, but I just wanted to share this; there was an evil Elain theory someone had. She gifted Az the headache powder (we don’t know how it works) and earplugs to secretly numb his senses.

i've seen the earplug theory before and my god did it make me laugh like the desperation... but elain being a lightsinger? HUH?? do they not remember the description of them in acosf? they lure people and kill them. they're not beloved by animals or something like wtf??? i can't anymore 😭

if anything i think it'd be more accurate that elain avoids lucien because she sees a happy life for them. like put yourself in her shoes, she was in love with a man who rejected her coldly because of something she had no control over and she's tied to this man she barely knows because of fae magic and now her fae magic is showing her they're going to be perfect together?? i wouldn't be surprised if she thought the bond was influencing her seer abilities somehow

ok look i love elain, she's my soft baby girl, but not everything is about her omfg. clearly their hofas theories were wrong (who's surprised? not me) but it's insane how they shove her into every single plotline. she'll get her own story whenever sjm releases it, relax

i've said before that i don't agree with the "evil elain" theories, it's not something i see sjm doing at all lol she writes her antagonists/soon to be antagonists a certain way and elain doesn't give off those vibes. plus she confirmed her book years ago so yeah, elain is safe. not saying you do, anon, since you said you don't think she will be either. i'm just talking about others i've seen over the years who, for some reason, can't accept that women can be kind and polite and soft without ulterior motives. anyway, moving on... do i think elain could somehow be manipulated by other forces? maybe, but it wouldn't be with the intention to harm anyone else. so i don't think she gifted him those things for any other reason than the fact that they're gag gifts

Deadname

A name is how you declare yourself to the world. It's hard to know what your name should be when you don't know what kind of person you want to introduce yourself as; it's harder still when you know who you are, and your name paints a completely different picture.

I wasn't really aware of the gendering of names until I was about six or seven. We had an assignment in Hebrew school, to learn what our names meant. I asked my parents, and they told me, and it left a gaping wound in me that took years to heal.

My name was so feminine. I hadn't realized that having this name forced onto me declared me as a girl to the rest of the world, but that's what it did. Ever since, having people learn my deadname's meaning felt like having my clothes ripped off. The hidden, gendered parts of myself, the ones I wished to change- exposed for all to see.

I never quite made the connection between my name and myself. It always felt like that name referred to someone else, someone I was simply pretending to be.

When I started exploring my gender, I began looking into different names. Neutral, at first, then sometimes masculine.

I found a lot of names. I tried a lot of names. Over a dozen, I think. There were names I hated a week later. There were names I thought were cool, but weren't right for me, the way I feel about makeup. There were names that almost fit, maybe, sort of. They didn't feel bad. They just didn't quite feel like me. Those names were a role I played, and it wasn't a difficult role, but it still wasn't me.

It took years to find a name that felt like me.

I tried talking about name changes with my mother, once. In sort of an abstract sense. I never got around to telling her I wanted to change mine. I was planning to, but then the conversation shifted to her telling me how hurtful it must be for parents to see their trans children throw away the names their mother and father gifted them.

When my best friend changed his name, my mother told me she felt bad for his parents, because his old name was better.

I felt like I'd been stabbed again. The wound that opened in me when I learned the meaning of my deadname bled again, and I decided to hide it, and I never told her anything about changing my name.

I found a name this summer, with friends who told me that I mattered more than what my mother thought of me. They gave me many suggestions, and one of them fit. I use that name now. Not with many people, but with the ones close to me. The name feels like home in a way I'd never really thought possible. There's a spark of recognition, when I hear it said aloud. It's me.

My first name was chosen for my late grandfather, a feminized version of his. I tried different variations, and I tried just using his name. It never felt right. I tried so hard to be a good grandson, to be a good child to my mother who missed her father. I failed.

And I knew it would hurt her if she knew I'd thrown away the name she gifted me, if she knew I was distancing myself from the father she wanted to remember. I know it would hurt her. And I know it would hurt me, the inevitable rejection, the disapproval of the name that means so much to me.

So I haven't told her. I don't know when I will. If ever. I don't want to hurt her, and I don't want her to hurt me, but my deadname is a knife and I don't know how much longer I can let its blade sink into my skin.

A little longer. I'll pretend to be her daughter, her daughter with a name like a knife, for just a little longer. Keep going until I can't.

I want to change my name. I want to declare myself to the world as I am, with a name that feels like a reunion with something I've been missing my whole life. But if I introduce myself as me, that might be what kills the girl I pretended to be. I might not be forgiven for killing her.

Fallout New Vegas Live-Blog Part 6

(b ᵔ▽ᵔ)b Today was all about Quests!!!!

My Courier FINALLY figured out how she wanted to use the HELIOS One and decided to equally distribute the power to everyone.

I forgot to mention before the Honest Hearts DLC I recruited Toby's boy Arcade Gannon! The way he deflects is really funny but I hope OPENS UP ALREADY!!! So I can unlock his Quest soon.

Since it was possibly Ulysses who left ED-E for me I decided to finish the ED-E My Love Quest 👀. I didn't realize this until after I killed The Brotherhood of Steel but A LOT of ways to unlock ED-E's Log 2 File was through them. Whoops no regrets.

ヾ( ^∀^ )ﾉ Luckily on accident I spoke with a random NCR solider in the HELIOS One who activated it!

Not long afterwards I was contacted by a member of the Followers of the Apocalypse named April Mortimer.

The developers forgot to change her dialogue if you kill the Brotherhood of Steel beforehand because she says, "I monitored a communication earlier between you and someone with the Brotherhood of Steel."

Which did NOT happen. My Courier is the LAST person they'd want to communicate with.

Anyway I met up with her and she took ED-E to do some upgrades. (っ ᵔ◡ᵔ)っFelt like I was dropping my kid off at Daycare.

Anyway while ED-E got upgraded I finally worked on helping Freesideヽ(ˇ∀ˇ )ゞ!!!

I helped Bill Ronnie with his alcoholism and Jacob Hoff kick his addiction to chems. From there I resolves the conflict between the King and the NCR. (¬_¬ ) Pacer SUCCCCKKKKKKKSSS and I don't understand why The King hasn't punished him for his outlandish behavior.

(ﾉ^ヮ^)ﾉ Since I helped so much The King let me be the first female to EVER join their group ☆!!!

I don't think this was intentional but for some reason The King had members of his group stop me EIGHT times while in Freeside to give me a gift. The gifts ranging from Stimpacks to Banana Yucca Fruit.

I then worked on some Quests for the Atomic Tango like collecting debts. ( ^_^)ゞ Except I got kinda lazy, lied and paid off two of the three people's debts. They want me to kill someone in The Strip but I'm not sure if I'm going to do that.

I then met a Ghoul comedian named Hadrian who ROASTED ME!!!!

To be fair he thought I was the heckler hired to spice up his shows. In the end I helped him get out of his contract, hired him at The Tops and got a free performance!!

I then worked on the Wang Dang Atomic Tango Quest. I need to recruit three adult performers. Getting Santiago to join was easy because he was the person whose debt I collected. From there I recruited that cool Cowboy Ghoul Beatrix Russell who was working for the Followers of the Apocalypse.

Then last . . . I needed to create a sexbot.

MY POOR COURIER GOT UNINTENTIONALLY FLAMMED DURING THIS QUEST LMAO!!!!!

My Courier: "Yeah what kind of weirdos would want to have sex with a robot . . ."

After creating Fisto the sexbot (whose services I reject). I delivered him to James Garret AND THIS GUY ACTS LIKE A KID IN A CANDY STORE!!!!!!

He's wayyyyyyy too excited for someone who TOTALLY doesn't have a disgusting robot fetish. Talking about he's been looking one for YEARS and word for word, "Imagine the possibilities! It didn't happen to come with an owner's manual, did it? Aw, forgot it- trial and error should do it.

HE'S ALSO A ROBOT FUCKER!!!!!!

My Courier currently has a crush on Yes Man but they aren't actually together (yet). I like to imagine while away during the Old World Blues and Honest Hearts DLCS she thinks about him a lot.

It's only when she returns and sees him for the first time it hits her like, "oh." I like him more as more than a friend. You know how time apart makes the heart grow fonder? Yeah ANWAY SHE TAKES A PAGE OUT OF DR. BOROUS' BOOK AND IMMEDIATELY BURIES IT SINCE NOWS NOT THE TIME!!!!!

My Courier: "It's not healthy for me to bury my guilt and feelings over what I did to the Khans *has crush on Yes Man* BURY THAT!!! BURY THAT!!!!"

Also I paid James Garret the robot lover to raise my reputation so I went from being liked to idolized.

I mentioned in an earlier post that before turning over the evidence of Alice McLafferty and the Silver Rush to Jackson at Mojave Outpost I wanted to work on some of their Quests. So I knocked out a bunch of them. You Can Depend on Me (excluding Running off the Runners) and the Pressing Matters for Alice.

Afterwards I did the Bird of a Feather for the Silver Rush. Helping until I received an order to Bring Cass to Jean-Baptiste . . .

She was with me when he asked LOL.

They'll kill her if I point that out so we left, went to Mojave Outpost and reported what they were doing. Since I only imagined my Courier and Cass teaming up to resolve this issue afterwards they had a drink together (my Courier doesn't drink alcohol but Cass does) before parting ways for good.

I didn't mention this earlier but when killing the Khans FOR SOME REASON a random Powder Ganger member was there??!!

No idea why he was at Red Rock Canyon but when killing the Khans I accidentally killed him.

This caused me to be Vilified by the Powder Gangers.

I didn't think it was a big deal because I assumed if I rescued the Powder Gangers from the Legion (who didn't see me because I used a Stealth Boy), convinced Chavez to leave and dealt with Cooke in Vault 19 I'd be fine.

WRONG!!!! No matter what I do the Powder Gangers will attack me. So my Courier gained a bunch of good Karma killing them all.

I like to imagine that they figured out my Courier killed the Fiends and assumed she'd come for them. Especially with the whole conflict between Goodsprings and the Powder Gangers that happened. Which is why they became so hostile since A RANDOM POWDER GANGER BEING WITH THE KHANS MAKES NO SENSE!!!

She actually considered MAYBE giving them a chance to redeem themselves but once they attacked first it was all over.

Hear me out because I have Thoughts that may give you feelings 💕

The jarring thing with the delicate flower quest (the actual one), is that the Grey Mourner is someone who is living her grief pretty openly and with a very specific cause. But this grief is contrasted by a world that has lost so much, that everywhere you go there are corpses in the corner. You don't get to know who they were, beyond where they died and the fact everyone else around is dead too.

You lose some sensitivity to death on your journey. I mean if we were to grieve husk number 45 that attacks us and we kill we would never end. But they're still worth thinking about on some level. Like Myla, for example, or Bretta, who we were lucky enough to save.

Someone has to remember the ones who didn't survive, though, or at least pay some respect to the tragedy they were a victim of. Everyone in those caves has lost someone, whether they know it or not, and many more have been forgotten after so long.

So in a way, Flower Quest is there to remind you that there are people who were left behind, people you never had the chance to meet, and someone is there to see what has become of the world after their death. Yeah, everyone else is dead and you're kinda desensitized to it, but those are still people that mattered as individuals. The Grey Mourner is just, one of the few who will openly talk about it and who, after this long, is still suffering because of it.

But there is something else about Flower Quest and like, individuals snd how they're perceived. I personally like to add my own flavor of angst to things so hear me out. I'm not done.

One of the things I rotate in my head is that usually in Hollow Knight we get clues as to what happened through pieces of lore, background and so on. The only reason to know about the relationship between Ze'mer and her partner is encountering her and she explaining her version of things. She speaks fondly of her lover, feeling such a strong wish to send her a gift she "would give all".

But then you find the place and it's some hidden cave surrounded by thorns making it almost inaccessible, and some marking outside. And in there she's referred as "the Traitor's Child" which mainly serves the purpose of understanding the weight of the conflict of the QG tribe, adding to the Traitor Lord's lore. but it can also feel... contrasting, since that seems like a different person than whoever Ze'mer is mourning and yet they're the same.

And like, in a way that shows that the image Ze'mer had, is way different than the one other people had. Considering that Ze'mer states they were denied their union and she was rejected for being an outsider, it adds to the idea that these two were viewed negatively for what they had together by others.

Remember what I said about memory being important? Well, yeah. At least in the Traitor's Child's case, the vibe you get is that a lot of people had negative perceptions of who she was and/or who she was related to and that impacts what is left of her. So in a way, I see flower quest as a way for Ze'mer to say farewell to her lover in a way that is personal to the perception they had of each other and a way to leave some sort of legacy of who they were. Putting flowers on that grave is both a way for the Mourner to give closure and to leave a mark. She cared for her partner, and even if others tried to deny them their union, she will leave something that persists and makes sense for them.

We don't get to know who these two were besides who they were associated with and maybe glimpses of their personality. We don't get to judge who they were, or how exactly they ended up where they did. And frankly? It probably doesn't matter that much. We're just the messenger, the one who heard a plea and, wanting to help the Mourner get some closure, we complete this quest.

More random, out of order thoughts for the Uncle Philip AU because my brain can only work in specific thoughts right now rather than cohesive responses!

- Hunter doesn’t have the scar on his cheek for a while, not until the siblings’ first encounter with their uncle’s beast form. Hunter and Luz, against Eda’s warnings, attempt to get close to try and calm him down, but Hunter’s similar appearance to Caleb ends up blurring in Philip’s mind and well… there’s a lot of sobbing afterwards. Eda is very clear that, after he’s returned to his normal state, she doesn’t want Philip anywhere near Hunter. She’s understanding of his situation, and she’s pushing down a lot of her own personal feelings as well, but she also knows Hunter needs space to process what happened. When Philip is allowed to enter his room again, there are a lot of apologies. He’s hates that he feels compelled to apologise, and he hates that he’s this attached to a Grimwalker, but he never wanted to hurt his nephew, he swore to Camila he would never let any harm come to those kids. It’s a very awkward and quiet moment, with neither being sure what to say really. Philip does have a braincell sometimes though in this au and is quick to shut Hunter down when he tries to blame himself.

- Eda and Philip’s mini plotline in ‘Something Ventured, Someone Framed’ is one of my favourite things to think about sometimes. It’s a mix of silly and also genuine, being one of the first times the two really get to know each other without the pre-existing biases. Against his better judgement, Philip agrees to help Hunter and Luz get into magic school, only because Eda pointed out that if witches are as bad as he says, he should have no trouble in the kids learning about that first hand. He gets roped into helping Eda clean up her old messes all thanks to another bet they make. He comments frequently on all the trouble she got into throughout, very negatively too, and to a point she snaps back at him to be quiet and to leave if he’s not going to help, not something he quite expected really. He denies throughout the episode that he ever caused trouble at school, but after realising Eda maybe is doing this for Luz, he admits that perhaps he caused a little trouble himself - a lot actually. It’s another area they do connect in: two people that loved learning but didn’t thrive in the environment so lashed out, the complete opposites of their perfect student older siblings.

- Philip has his own Bad Girl Coven T-Shirt that he pretends not to wear, but it ends up becoming one of his go-to pyjama clothes when his usual nightshirt is being washed.

- Luz doesn’t want to admit it, because she’s happy for her brother, but the fact he was able to bond with a palisman and she wasn’t is something she’s envious of. It wears off a little when Eda gifts her the palistrom wood, but still she wonders that maybe if she just had a concrete goal, if she knew what she wanted, she wouldn’t have been rejected like that. She usually decides to just brush the feelings off with some Azura rereads. A good distraction always works in her eyes!

- Finally, somewhere in season two, I’m not sure when yet, Philip at last decides to fully open up about his brother. Not about how he killed him or anything, he very carefully leaves that detail out, but the kind of person he was. The Owl House deals with a lot of themes and grief is one of them. The idea of ‘can you miss someone you never even knew’ links a lot to Hunter and Luz here, who only know about Caleb from their uncle, and they’ve seen the effects Caleb’s death has had on him firsthand. The visual I have is the three of them all just sitting on the cliffside by The Owl House together as the sun sets, with the kids resting their heads against their Uncle, all as he talks about the father Hunter never got to meet, and the other uncle Luz never got to meet either. This is set before Hollow Mind obviously and possibly makes Hollow Mind hit even harder for those two but what’s this AU without a little family angst?

How did Tim and Jason get together in the shutterbug au if he didn’t think much of him on their first date?

Aha, it wasn't actually a date! It was a gathering Stephanie dragged Jason to because it was around the time she decided she'd had enough of his wallowing bullshit about waves hand vaguely in the direction of Red Hood's quest for vengeance and then the sort of road to recovery he was currently on but kinda stuck in the :( everything sucks phase

Jason's social skills are, eeehh, Not Great at this point. Especially with civilians, Brown are you fucking insane I can't be around people.

Stephanie is not having any of his excuses you need to get out more and patrol doesn't count >:(

So he's dragged to a lunch meet up. Tim is there along with some of his and Steph's other college buddies and Steph is like hey everyone this is... My coworker, Jason.

And, listen, you gotta see this from Tim's perspective. Your ex girlfriend and current best friend has just walked up with God's Gift To Man except the dude is scowling like someone just killed his puppy. And then he turns that scowl right on you.

Meanwhile, Jason is basically a mess of anxiety from just having to be around Normal People and still mostly thinks of himself as some kind of irredeemable monster rather than a person. He's. Trying. He came to this stupid lunch, right, what more could Brown ask if him but oh God, Brown's friend Tim is very pretty and sharp and quick witted and suddenly Jason does very much want to be here because he wants to know more but also wtf is socializing

Stephanie is having a ball. She figured Jason would like Tim, Tim who doesn't put up with anyone's bullshit, who's got a comeback for everything, who's determination is a terrifying thing to behold, but she didn't quite expect Jason to go down that hard. She feels a little bad, watching Jason try haltingly to actually talk to another person with the thunderous expression of someone on a Righteous Mission while Tim keeps giving her little side eyes like, "really?? This is someone you hang out with?? Really???"

Jason tries to be a gentleman and refill Tim's drink from the pitcher. Except he fumbles because he's nervous and overwhelmed and spills the whole thing in Tim's lap. Honestly it wouldn't've been such a big deal except Jason goes into blue screen of mortal embarrassment and mutters a quick, horrified, "I have to go," and flees the scene entirely.

Tim, totally soaked in idk probably some cocktail mix, stares Stephanie dead in the eyes from across the table and yells, "what the fuck was that?!"

Through her tears she tries to assure Tim that Jason liked him he's just an idiot who has been way too absorbed in his work for too long, which totally reminds her of someone else too hmm who could that be? Tim scoffs because he sure didn't act like it and maybe Tim still has a hard time believing when people like him but I digress.

A week or so later, with some (a lot of) nudging from Steph, Jason shows up at Tim's favourite coffee shop with flowers and apologizes for the lunch thing. He stumbles through a whole speech and asks Tim out on a proper date. Tim thinks about it for a while, making Jason squirm in the middle of a busy coffee shop where people are definitely watching and oh god he's about to be rejected in front of all these people this was a mistake, Brown was wrong and he should just stick to what he knows: shooting people's kneecaps --

"Yeah, okay," Tim says, a slow smirk spreading across his face, "but I'm choosing the venue and you're not allowed to pour any drinks."

Tim has not yet let Jason live down the drink incident.

They went to a classic dinner and a movie combination for their first date. To say it went well is putting it lightly ;)

hello I’ve seen the way you explain and analyse Madison’s character and explain the way she acts throughout coven and Apocalypse, could you explain how she’d act when dating Zoe in apocalypse? I’d like to know how she’d act, react, give affection and I’d love to know what you think she’d be like, thank you!

Hi anon!! Of course I would love to! This is more dating Zoe in general but I’ll explain how apocalypse changed her.

Madison character really changes in apocalypse because hell had influenced her and made her miss the people she was once surrounded with, even though at the time she thought they were a really big pain in the butt.

She expects that no one missed her, or even realised that she was gone… and that does hurt her but she would never tell you that. Madison missed people, but she’d never admit that either.

Zoe especially. Her and Zoe have a special connection all throughout, madison doesn’t really have any friends.. just people she tries to boss around, so when she actually bonds with Zoe, that’s really strange for her. 

Don’t get me wrong, Zoe TRIED to forget madison.. because she thought she was never going to get her back.. how could she live and madison was down in hell with no way to bring her back?? That weighed on her for a while.

Zoe also goes through a lot of changes upon meeting madison. In HC that madison has kissed a girl or five, but Zoe?? Had never thought about it until madison. Until she felt the chemistry she’d never felt before. Zoe very much so, even at such a young age thought she was broken. She wasn’t like her regular friends, meeting madison.. things clicked into place for her.

Now I fully believe madison thinks she’s in charge, she the loud one, the confident one, that’s what she’d lead you to believe. Madison is actually really soft. She seeks approval from Zoe in little ways, she likes being told she’s doing a good job or what she’s doing is right. And even though madison thinks she’s in charge AND in control, when things start to get hard and spiral Zoe knows when to step in and reason with Madison.

Madison loves affection. She loves gifts.

Madison very much so likes being close to Zoe, in public is a nightmare because I believe madison would show off, and then have to do a lottt of apologising later. She gets her defences up when she feels like people are trying to TAKE Zoe and we even see that in coven with Kyle. It wasn’t about sharing Kyle. Madison wanted to be close to Zoe and used Kyle as a pawn to do so. It just backfired.

She likes holding hands and cuddling on the couch, she lets herself be vulnerable with Zoe which is a big thing. It shows how much she trusts Zoe.

Madison is still super rejection sensitive. Even to little things if she suggested a show to watch or a place to go and Zoe is doing something legit like teaching and says “I’m working, we can do it after” Madison has to really control herself to not flip out because she feels like zoe doesn’t want to be around her. She’s learning. She’s just used to people leaving.

And contrary to belief, I don’t think sex is fun for Madison either. Given her history which she explains in her coven monologue and from what we see in episode 1/2, madison does not have good experiences AND neither does Zoe given she killed her first boyfriend.

They take it slow, very attentive to each other. This is a place were madison really isn’t selfish because she knows what it’s like to have everything taken away with no choices.

Who screams and who kills the spider?

Dirk always has Raid on deck, he's quick to try and kill any fucking bug he finds in his house. I don’t think he’d scream or anything unless it was crawling on him or something, but he’s also not gonna get bug shit on his shoes you know? Dustin’s the kind of weirdo who tries to capture and release the spider back into the wild or whatever 😭 but also I think they (Dustin mainly) would have a pet tarantula and a pet lizard, so they never really have insects inside their house.

What are their love languages?

Definitely physical touch as a big one for Dustin!! He loves kissing and hugging and cuddling and just being around his partner. He tries to do that aloof shit and be “normal”,  but when he loves someone he puts his all in and becomes mushy and lovey-dovey and gay (he has attachment issues). Also gift giving and quality time for him as well, but I think all that goes hand-in-hand.

Dirk’s is acts of service. He loves doing small things for his partner, and loves taking care of people. Being with Dustin, he learns how to show it in a healthy, non-overbearing way that is reciprocated :)

What's their age and height difference?

Dirk’s only a couple of months older than him (like about half a year). In this story I was writing (and then everything else I do, I guess), they’re in a perpetual state of being 18 and 17, which sucks for them 😭.

And they're both manlets in my mind (the Dreamer’s are a short family to me), but Dirk is a little fatter than him. Let’s say that Dirk is 5’5 and Dustin is 5’7 because I might change it I’m always changing shit.

Who made the first move? What was it?

Honestly this one is so complicated because it could be either or and it depends on the direction I take their relationship. I think they’re always in a state of  “what’s known doesn’t have to be explained” mindset, like they spend basically everyday together and live together, they’re basically a couple in everything but name. I feel like they would both be a little anxious to make the first move, Dustin because of his internalized homophobia/attachment issues/fear of rejection, and Dirk because he doesn’t want to ‘force’ Dustin to talk about anything he’s not ready to talk about, and he also doesn’t want him to deflect and turn his feelings around on him. But after basically 50 first dates with someone you have to bite the fucking bullet and kiss them it’s just stupid not to (I think Dustin would try and hype himself up to kiss him but would pussy out 🙄 it's tiring after awhile)

Do they want kids? If so, who initiated the question about having them?

Ohhhh definitely they both want kids!! Dustin wants a big family like his mom wanted, he’s using the 3 dogs and 1 cat and lizard and tarantula they have as a placeholder for his children until both he and Dirk are (financially) stable enough to have kids, but he’s being totally normal about it until then (has a long list of baby names on deck, has his baby clothes and toys in storage somewhere, is READY to be such an active dad and do everything with his kids and be involved with everything!!! and he’s ready to be a sexy pta dilf too) 

What do their families think of their partner?

Darren likes Dustin a lot actually! To Darren, Dustin and Lilith are so similar, he’s like 👀 to Dirk’s taste in partners. But anyways I think Dustin and Darren mesh well, Darren is chill and I think he would inspire Dustin to build his interest in drawing.

I’ve never thought about Dirk meeting Brandi which is so crazy 😭😭😭 But Brandi thinks Dirk is a sweetie, she just wonders how her son pulls seemingly normal people (but he's doing better than she was at his age so she can't talk). Also he plays minecraft and roblox with Beau :3 I think Beau takes a minute to warm up to Dirk when he realizes that his brother ‘likes-likes’ him and that Angela hasn’t came over to see him lately, and he tries to sus Dirk out and he's like:

In the beginning before their relationship is firmly established they both harbor a little unjustified jealousy towards each other, because they’re together but not together and they never clarify what they actually are, but when they actually become boyfriends they both chill out and trust the other <3

Opinions

First impression • I have to level with you guys, as one of those bi of sexuals you’ll hear a lot about this month, I just. When it comes to the over-the-top, super camp, sassy villain who is also genuinely scary, my response is automatic. I see, I love. He was already great. Aspirational. Iconic. An absolute treasure to behold. A gift to my eyeballs. Ardyn didn’t need to be more than that for me to appreciate him, and at first, I didn’t think he would be.

Impression now • Like the great philosopher Cloud once said: hoo boy. You know when a property fucks up a character so severely that they’re kind of obligated to give them a redemption story down the line, and it’s so obviously hamfisted that people respond with, “wOw, tHaT FixEd eVerYtHiNg!”? That, but unironically for Episode Ardyn. Not that Ardyn was especially broken to begin with, it was just frustrating that we never got a full grasp on his motivations or place in the narrative. While giving the villain a Tragic Backstory™©® in order to make them sympathetic is a hamfisted and annoying move most of the time, XV really pulled it off for me. After learning the kind of person he used to be, what was done to him, and the existence he’s been forced into, he doesn’t really come off so bad anymore. Especially if you reject Bahamut at first, and witness the cruel and inhumane lengths he’s willing to go to, to see his own will done. Much like with Regis, I’m left wondering what I’m supposed to be angry about. He’s up against a literal god. And clearly XV isn’t interested in being that kind of jrpg (though it really should have been, salt, salt). Not only do we have context to his behaviour, but it actually shifts the dynamic of the entire cast, world, and story, because the villain no longer seems villainous, and the hero doesn’t feel quite so much like a hero, as much as he does a helpless pawn. (But that’s an entire other rant I may go into someday.) I suppose in the end, all I really want for Ardyn is justice for his character. Not to harp on Dawn or anything, but I really liked that ending for him. He found peace in death or whatever; more important is that he did it on his own terms, regaining his agency in his final moments. He chose how to go, was able to reconcile with his brother, and take his justice from a cruel and unforgiving god that was willing to raise 114 generations of his own blood to slaughter. Honestly, call me captain of the Ardyn Defence Squad, because I’d go to war for this greasy weirdo, Man Of Every Consequence.

Favorite moment • It’s a tie. “For what sins must I atone??” SAY IT AGAIN FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK. But also, probably the entire talk with Bahamut, because again, that’s the thing that shifts his character from Sassy Villain to genuinely devastating. You really get an image of just how helpless and powerless this seemingly all-powerful man is in the face of his destiny. And it’s all capped off by knowing that he became this way because he wanted so desperately to help others. I just can’t fault him for that. And finally, the moment he kills Luna. I hate that for Luna a lot, but I love how she reaches out and tries to offer her help. You see this perfect, unbreakable facade of carelessness crack, and it elicits one of the few honest-to-goodness reactions we ever see from him. He’s disgusted, afraid, and a little hopeful all at once. All because someone was kind to him for the first time in a couple thousand years. 

Idea for a story • I’m still hung up on anything that lets him and Luna be besties. He needs a friend. I’d also like to see a deviation in canon where he instantly regrets harming Luna and manages to help her somehow, sparing her life and forcing him to reconsider his actions and accept her help.

Unpopular opinion • Honestly, if what I’ve already said thus far isn’t too unpopular, then there’s nothing I can add that would be so. Ardyn began as a great villain and ended as something between that and a sympathetic antihero. I just want more for him. 

Favorite relationship • I really, really wanted to see more of his relationship with Somnus. It was intriguing and nuanced, with neither side wholly in the right or wrong, and their rivalry stoked by forces well beyond them. I like that Dawn gave Somnus the chance to truly apologise, and I like to think that, in kinder circumstances, they could have been an amazing team. 

Favorite headcanon • That, after daylight returns, Ardyn’s rightful place in Lucian history is cemented; not just as the Accursed, but as the man who was almost King, but for his boundless compassion, and willingness to put himself in harm’s way to save others. It’s what he deserves.

So, there’s a lot of songs from the Official Nimona Soundtrack on here… and you know what, it rules, so! Any song that starts with “celebrate the rejects!” is a Karen song for sure.

So, I actually had “So What” on here at first, but then I realized, no! I think this is a very idealistic version of what Karen believes, ie celebrating the things that make us difference and the underdogs of society! Maybe this is where they started out before they got into Crime ™.
