Alright. Finished the Fallout show. Very good show and very happy with what we got. But I above all I will be most happy with it so long as it forms its own continuity outside the games. I doubt that it will. But damn do I want it to.

What Batman thinks of Starfire.
Okay so I've seen many people curious about what Batman thinks of Starfire. I've seen a lot of people say Batman hates her and that he doesn't trust her cuz she's an alien and cuz he's a dickbabs shipper. I will explain why those statement aren't true. That's not who the original Batman is.
Let's go back to the original canon before all the stupid ooc retcons were created.
The first time Batman ever mentioned Starfire's name was in Tales of The Teen Titans #50 (1985) where Dick and Kory have already been dating for years.
Tumblr media
and behold
- Bruce never referred to Kory as "the alien" he called her by her real name.
- He knows his son is in a real serious relationship with her.
- Bruce never made any bad comments about her nor did he show contempt for their relationship.
- He acted like a kind father who just wants to know how his son is doing with the woman he loves.
The 2nd time he mentioned her is in Swamp Thing #53 (1986) where he defended Human/Alien relationships like Dick and Kory's.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
again he called her by her actual name and showed no issue towards Dick and Kory's relationship.
The 3rd time was in Funeral For a Friend (1993) where Bruce greeted her and Dick. He was happy to see both of them attending Superman's funeral. And for the 3rd time he called her by her actual name.
Tumblr media
The Original Batman was a kind father who respected his son's alien girlfriend. Who wasn't spiteful and xenophobic towards Starfire and doesn't compare her to Barbara. and no, he wasn't a pro-dickbabs shipper. That ship didn't even exist before they retconned a lot of shit.
That everything changed after Dick and Kory got broken up. Reason for their break up? The Bat-editorial demanded they wanted Dick Grayson back to the Bat-office. The Titans Editorial had no choice but to pull him out of the Titans books and hand him back to the Bateditorial.
The Bat-editorial didn't like the idea of Dick dating someone outside the Batfamily like Kory so they couldn't continue their relationship in the Bat-books. It needed to end. The original wedding plan for Dick and Kory got cancelled. They don't like Dick and Kory? Okay fine, no one is forcing them to like them, whatever.
but no they couldn't just move on and leave Dick and Kory's past relationship alone.
They just had to say something negative about their relationship and put down their shared history, didn't they.
Why?
Is that really necessary?
Why can't they just respect the love that Dick and Kory had for each other when they were together and leave it at that ?
Cuz they did love and care for each other. It was a genuine love.
You can ship him with another woman without undermining and invalidating his history with Kory.
Like what did Kory ever do to them to make them hate her so much.
After they deaged Barbara to be the same age as Dick and pushed them together as the new pairing, they made a lot of comics degrading Kory, minimizing her interactions with Dick, and retconning her history and relationship with Dick into a one sided sexual fling.
and they turned Bruce against Kory too. This is where the idea of Bruce being a "anti-Starfire" and "pro dickbabs shipper" started.
They created this retcon in Gotham Knight #43 (2000) where Bruce acted xenopobhic towards her, making him refer to Kory as the alien and belittling her relationship with Dick, something he's never done before. Just to portray Barbara as his one true love. Bruce has never even talked about Dick and Barbara before and now suddenly he's shipping them. This retcon is not only an assasination of Kory and Bruce's character, it has also done a lot of damaged to people's perception of Bruce and Kory's relationship.
All of this for the sake of propping up a retconned romance.
Tumblr media
Not only is Bruce mischaracterized here, Babs is also acting so weird and ooc.
There was no reason for here to moon and whine over Dick like a lovesick girl from highschool.
She was a congresswoman when Dick was still in highschool. She called Dick "a child" and "little brother". She wasn't interested with him, he was too young for her 😭
Barbara already had a life of her own and own relationships, she dated Superman and got enganged to Jason Bard 😭
Dick had a precocious crush on her but he moved on from her when he moved out of Gotham. Even the original dickbabs writer said they were never meant to be together 😬
Barbara and Dick weren't pining over each other when Dick and Kory dated for years!
Dick never even once mentioned Barbara's name in the New Teen Titans books!
There was no reason for Babs to pursue Dick and vice versa, Both have already moved on to other people but stupid dickbabs retcons just had to exist 🙄
So yeah Bruce only hates Starfire when he's written by dickbabs writers and bateditors.
He was fine with her in canon before they pushed their dickbabs agenda.
Even in elseworld stories where it's not written by dickbabs writers.
Like in the animated show He supported Dick and Kory's relationship.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and in Kingdom Come he literally went to find the best doctors to help cure Kory's illness 😭
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There's no logical reason for Batman to hate Starfire other than just to shit on Kory and prop up Dickbabs.
the whole "He doesn't like her cuz she's a dangerous alien" form of excuse is also BS
his bestfriend is literally Superman, an alien who is far more powerful than Starfire, he's also teammates with Martian Manhunter who is also an alien 😩
Overall yeah Fuck Dickbabs. It's the only ship that is good at character assasinating characters.

Maybe I'll make a post on this at some point but like, something deeply fucked up about TNP and Po3 that people have totally forgotten about is how badly they try to whine that "Tigerstar Had Good Traits :("
Firestar does it, Brambleclaw does it, and they keep doing this after it becomes this GRAND irony that Firestar almost gets Tiger'd to death in a fox trap because he was too trusting. Bramble gets his pity award of keeping deputyship and then cries to his son about how No One Saw The Good In Tigerstar :(
And it's wiiiiild that no one else in this fandom has done anything with the fact that Leopardstar broke the Warrior Code to appoint Hawkfrost, who had no apprentice, an extremely aggressive and warmongering Tigerclone who says things like "Tigerstar wasn't the worst cat to look up to." ONLY qualifying trait was being kinda like Tigerstar.
And she practically did that the SECOND Mistyfoot went missing. And then Leopardstar continued to be one of the most violent and xenophobic leaders through Po3, joining with WindClan to attack ThunderClan.
What I'm getting at is that like, a few years ago, with books like "Blackfoot's Reckoning" and "Shadow in RiverClan" it's like they suddenly decided to retcon in a bunch of "redemption arcs" in hindsight. They just pretended like there was this grand high reckoning with TigerClan, when there literally wasn't, and if anything that caused SERIOUS problems for the cast that the authors didn't fully acknowledge as such.
And now ppl haven't actually read the main series and are just working with their recent memory of all these retcon books.
But TNP and PO3 are still there, and you can go and see the ACTUAL timeline where Leopardstar is really not apologetic at all, and Blackstar is a useful stooge for the very next wannabe dictator that strolls in, in spite of the new side content that COMPLETELY mischaracterized them for their plots to work.

CGI Henry's personality; my take
So, Henry in the cgi era is a BIG soft crybaby in the cgi series, a nervous and worrisome guy. A lot of people didn't like it. I like seeing the model era and the cgi/brenner era as one in the same and have an idea as to why he changed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
My take on the reason(s) Henry goes from a irritated jerk to a soft, nervous guy is this;
Anxiety, trauma, fear and guilt
As we know, well...it's obvious that Henry's been through some traumatising stuff. I'm no expert on ptsd, but I feel that the "Tunnel incident" and the Flying Kipper accident are two main contributors that caused Henry to gain anxiety that very slowly but surely worsens over time. Worsening anxiety can be due to age, so that may also be considered a reason for Henry's anxiety as well as trauma.
Retconning his personality in TAB, we'd just see a grumpy and irritated engine. Instead of him begging the turntable operator to go faster, he'd be complaining about how his livery will get ruined. Here's a scenario;
___________________
Just as Thomas settled into his new berth at Tidmouth, he noticed another engine coming on to the turntable; he was a big green tender engine, with red stripes like everyone else and had the exact same shape as that grumpy blue engine, Gordon. The green tender engine had an irked look on his face, and was eyeing the cloudy sky a lot.
As the turntable began turning, the engine instantly began complaining "Turn! Turn! Turn faster! Ugh, could you be any slower?". The turntable operator rolled his eyes. The engine just whined "Faster, or my paint's going to be ruined!".
Thomas frowned immediately, raising a judgemental eyebrow and looked over at Edward.
"Who's that grumpy engine? Is that Gordon's brother?" He asked in a whisper.
"Oh, that's Henry, Thomas. He's usually like this, I'm afraid and no, he isn't Gordon's brother...he's..." Edward nervously trailed off a little as Henry finally reversed into one of the berths.
"...well, he's a...faulty design"
"Huh...?"
"I'll explain a bit more tomorrow" Edward finished. Thomas looked over at Henry, who still held an annoyed look on his face. A drop of water suddenly fell on his buffer, and the green engine jolted before backing up further into the shed. Turns out it was beginning to rain.
Thomas couldn't help but snicker at Henry's reaction "Pff...don't tell me he's afraid of the rain!"
Edward just sighed "Well, I suppose you could say that, Thomas. Though, he's more concerned about his paint, especially after the tunnel incident..."
Thomas felt his eyebrow raise again, his interest piqued at the mention of "tunnel incident".
"Tunnel incident? What happened, Edward?" He asked curiously. Edward stared at Thomas for a minute before gazing up at the rain, a solemn look in his eyes "Well...me, Gordon and Henry agreed not to discuss it..." he said, his lips curled into a smile "But you seem eager to know, so...alright" Thomas perked up and listened intently.
"Once an engine attached to a train, was afraid of a few drops of rain..."
________________
In the classic era's later seasons, the anxiety is very subtle, and when the HiT era comes, it's becoming noticeable.
In my au (before the whole monsterfication occured), Edward had been taking notice of Henry's increasing worry and timidness. Having known Henry the longest, he took notice quicker and began getting a bit concerned. He discussed it with Gordon, but Gordon just passed it off as Henry "going soft". From then on, they both dropped the subject, but Edward's concern would keep lingering around from time to time.
In the CGI era, the anxiety had gotten worse and no one is doing anything to help Henry. I kinda have a headcanon that Gordon would sometimes complain to Henry about his timidness, he would probably go;
"Ugh, I don't know how you've turned into such a soft wimp, Henry. You used to be a lot better than this. Disgraceful"
After hearing these type of remarks, Henry would sulk to himself. He would sometimes reflect on how he was back in the past, whenever he'd reflect, he'd remember how he treated engines like Edward, Thomas and Percy. That would be moments where he'd be reminded of how much of an irritated jerk he once was which would make him feel guilty.
This is all I gotta say about CGI Hen-Hen for now.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Me when I read this:
Tumblr media
You know, for someone who calls them a fan, you sure do like disparaging Alice as a character.
Tumblr media
"My family died of mysterious circumstances and the conclusion doesn't make any sense." Doesn't constitute as a character as "whining".
Tumblr media
Her experiences are her past, Her past is an experience. The second game is about accepting memories, no matter how bad they are, are a part of herself. That's actually something you learn in trauma therapy.
Again, someone didn't pay attention to canon. We already know that some elements of the first game have been retconned and it's not a perfect story, but I think it's genuinely shitty to label a character as "whiny" when they're probing more to understand more about their past. If this person just thinks that one trip down to Wonderland is going to fix all of Alice's issues with major trauma and psychosis, they're wrong. Especially the latter if she suffers from psychosis.
Like, let's be realistic, here. If you're locked up in a place for ten years, especially during the most critical times of your emotional and physical development, it's going to mess you up. Alice was struggling when she left and several people exploited that. The way I see it, the first game was about accepting her family had died and she was growing up. The second was accepting she couldn't have changed what had happened and gotten over survivor's guilt as well as memories being a core part of her. As flawed as this game is and McGee has issues not retconning some of his work, it works because that's how trauma is. You will have ups and downs in the course of learning to accept what happened to it.
So calling Alice "whiny" or "selfish" is just so wrong, not only from a narrative perspective but also from her character. When she confronts Bumby at Moorgate Station, it's not about her, it is about the children who were being affected and passed out along Whitechapel, London. And if you're not familiar with the history of that area, it was known for trafficking, poverty, and prostitution, that's where Jack the Ripper was. Because Bumby was sadly right: nobody would believe Alice because of her history and when he tells her to leave, she has a change of heart, because she dares to stand up for not only herself and those kids.
Killing him wasn't an act of selfishness, it was the opposite. She could have given up and languished and become nothing, but she didn't. She almost did but Alice was too stubborn. And if this person paid attention to the dialogue enough, they would have seen Alice and Nanny being so critical of what's been happening in Whitechapel.
And... again, she has psychosis?! She was struggling to keep herself grounded and needed the help. She wasn't aware of what was going on sometimes because she struggled with her psychosis and that's a very real issue for some people with C-PTSD. It's done beautifully in "Hellblade". It's not perfect in these games, but it doesn't weaken her as a character, it makes her stronger. I didn't think that Alice seeking help for her psychosis was seen as "whiny". Like, come on, dude.
Did we even play the same games lmao.

Y'know? I suspect less players would side with the Templars if Bioware didn't hold back the true horror of the Right of Annulment when the player chooses to take part in it. Like... the Templars murder everyone in the Circle down to the youngest child. That's how Annulments work. But as far as I'm aware when the Warden or Hawke sides with the Templars in those "Do you want to help murder all these innocents for the crime of existing in this place that the people wanting to murder them locked them into, or do you want to Not Do That" quests you only face adult mages, abominations, and demons. I get that having to murder children would be... a lot to put in even an M-rated game, I'm not going to pretend I can't see why they didn't do it even before the "Actually the Templars are great and the mages need to stop whining about being imprisoned, tortured, raped, and murdered for being born" retcons in DAI, but can you imagine the impact? You wanted to do it, even in the face of your companions telling you not to. Maybe a couple companions even encouraged you to do it, although in DAO at least I don't think many of them do. But you made this choice; when the Templars asked you to help murder everyone in the Circle, you said yes. Now you have to face the fact that when they said everyone they meant everyone, from the oldest Senior Enchanter to the youngest apprentice. Hey, you thought this was the right call! You thought the whole population of the Circle should be put down based on the actions of people barely connected to them if at all! So now put these screaming children to the sword as they beg you to stop because that's what the Templars told you to do. That's what you wanted, right?
Even showing the bodies of the young apprentices of the Circle would've been an excellent gut punch if the player chose to help the Templars; you could explain that as the Templars thinking maybe the people assisting them would change their minds if they had to murder children while still giving the player a glimpse of what an evil thing they're willingly taking part in. Much like how if you choose to abandon Redcliffe to its fate in DAO you then have to fight your way through the wreckage to get to the castle, I feel like the real fallout of the Annulment, which for the first two games is treated as an evil act (even when treating Anders like a monster Meredith moving to kill the population of the Circle using his actions as an excuse is treated like a horrific thing to do), would be so much more effective if the players actually had the full horror of it shoved in their faces as a punishment for choosing to take part.

Yeah I think I am officially done with the Helluva boss critical community… for good.
Before you guys flip your shit and accuse me of being a Stan, let me explain.
So I deleted my tumblr app and decided just to refreshen my mind and focus on other things. (Like my art, my own possible indie project, ect ) and being away for a while… it kind of made me realize how much of the critical community was becoming too much for my mental health.
Originally, I joined because season 2 disappointed with season 2, didn’t like how Vivziepop retconned things like the pilot, the possible workplace allegations, and of course… the fandom being super toxic as hell work promoting toxic positivity.
But holy shit…. Somehow the critical community is even worse than the fandom.
Like I swear nobody talks about what’s wrong with this community. I’ve seen blogs have such an unhealthy hatred to Viv where they post nonstop about her… it’s insane. Like when making account names “wah I hate Vivziepop”
Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t think all critical blogs act like this. I do in fact still follows few, only thing is the ones I follow don’t constantly whine and bitch all the time and actually do critique. And these reblogs I follow just do AUs, rewrites, and redesigns which to me I will always see as harmless fun since that’s what I wanna do.
As for the other half of criticals…. Hell, these people legit get mad and share screenshots making fun of fans with different opinions. Like, bruh, didn’t you guys get angry at stans for doing that to y’all? You guys are literally doing the exact same thing. And no I’m not talking about sharing screenshots of toxic fans that attack former employees and make excuses for a questionable workplace…. But like they’ll just mock fans that didn’t do anything bad.
I’m all for critiquing a fandom and there are Stans that have such an unhealthy parasocial relationships with Viv… but somehow I see people acting the same with their unhealthy hate obsession. Literally going through her IG and bitching and moaning…
Seeing people making assumptions about her and Gooseworks with the glitch x as well as Tracy just shows me how unhealthy this hate is becoming.
Yes, Viv and Tracy had a bit of a heated thing on Twitter. However, I don’t think it’s fair to assume she’s this evil evil hellspawn that’s plotting to destory glitch x. “She’s kissing ass to goodeworks with her fake smile” dude she’s probably a fan of their works, you really don’t know that.
Also, while I’m aware of the allegations concerning Salem (who I hope really recovers and they did really make this episode the best IMO)… it’s probably not fair to assume all employees get treated the same way… the only people that seem to know what went down are Erin, Ken, Salem, and Ashley Nicolas. Do I think the workplace abuse is possible? Yes, it’s why I haven’t bought any merch.
BUT the reason why I don’t like to discuss things like this is because half of the other stuff seems like flimsy evidence besides Salem’s vents. And I think it’s a bit risky to spread such misinformation and make assumptions. (One blog I’ve seen had so many anons sharing rumors and just go along with them which to me is dangerous…)
Like when the new episode aired, unlike everyone else, I actually loved it. This recent episode was so great it’s what I wanna see more of for Helluva boss. But eh… I noticed some haters bitch for the sake of it. Now, some of the critiques aren’t too bad, I did notice some flaws and I understand the concerns for salem. But like other half it’s just bitching for the sake of it…
Also I heard rumors how the deranged stalker fan of Fizz is a parody of critical blogs… tbh I highly doubt that because that trope always existed in cartoons (like Aggrestuko had one too) but considering a good chunk of “criticals” have a hate boner for viv, can you blame some fans for thinking that?
I really don’t like how the critical community became the anti community. Because not every critical person is an anti, I don’t even wanna fuck with that shit and I don’t ever wanna resort to that.
Hell, they drove one critical blog I loved away… over a bad miscommunication.🙃 and that blog was right, you don’t wanna make friends with this community with how some toxic people are.
Also I’ve been drawing a lot of Hazbin hotel stuff for my Heaven AU and it reminded me why I enjoyed Vivziepop’s ideas and stories so much. It somehow was helping me take edge away from my mental health.
I think it’s possible to still be a fan without labeling yourself as a stan or anti. That’s why I made this blog for. I was so worn out by the toxic positivity of the fandom, so this is my comfort space. But now I need to cut the critical community away since it’s now full of toxic negativity.
And as I said, I do plan to make an indie cartoon series and I feel like being part of this critical community is NOT gonna make me professional on my end. That being said, I don’t like Viv as she said things that rubbed me the wrong way BUT I’m not gonna let that kill my joy for Hazbin hotel.(and Helluva boss to an extent) I do think she has good ideas and they CAN work but she does need more writers than animators to help her execute them.
That’s why I’m only a bit more excited for Hazbin hotel lately
Now I’m not angry at anyone who followed me. I just wanna make some boundaries, and that being said, I’m still gonna critique both shows. However, I’m just gonna tag these posts as HH/HB critiques than HH/HB critical for now on. I feel like that’s more professional and more genuine if you wanna share opinions on stuff.
Just wanna get this off my chest, it’s what I wanted to express for a while.
And if fans come across this blog, don’t be afraid to interact I won’t bite. Everyone has their different opinions. I only have an issue with Stans that promote toxic positivity and dismiss employees that were treated badly is all.

still pissed abt the whining about bad "breaking canon"
.. if ccs dont want him to lore in certain ways they can tell him, they can sooo easily go "hey bad can we retcon that conversation?"
because hey, if he is in character why WOULDNT he tell his daughter that he saw her mom and that her mom is alive after all.
i dont like seeing people say he's 'steamrolling' or 'being a mary sue' bullshit because no.. he's trying his best. and he's never acted like he demands to be the main character, the dude has literally pushed back his lore for weeks because he had to help out with other peoples lore and been a supporting character.
yall act like he's so arrogant when he's just TRYING
please just admit you dont like bad or you find him annoying instead of nitpicking every single thing he does, call that problematic and then think you have the high ground

GOD I need to stop listening to The Silt Verses right before bed
Not cause it's scary - I mean, it is scary in a way, in several ways, and frankly this episode (33) had its goddamn moments what the fuck - but because I get hype and want to come on here and verbally shake people until they understand.
I'm especially caught right now by the juxtaposition of the Roemont and Val scenes. Frankly, I'm really tired of people acting like how they're remembered is the important part of their lives, and it was INFURIATING to listen to Roemont wax poetic about all the things he's done for the Faith and how all of the work of his life will be undone if future editors of the Verses think Faulkner's story eclipses his, and cut him out as irrelevant. Like. Come the fuck on dude, the work of your life wasn't to do all these things, but rather to continue to receive acclaim for them centuries after you're dead? The complete lack of self-awareness or perspective is distasteful.
But then. The Last Word, the Retcon God. THIS is what it would be to have the work of your life erased. HE is the editor snipping events out of reality itself.
Roemont is whining about how someone he hates is gonna be more popular than him in a century or two, and up north Val is rewriting perceptions on the fly. Roemont is mad some people who never met him will forget that he gave the order to reclaim the Gulch, and up north Val is forcing a woman to forget that her husband and son ever existed, and because she said so, they actually didn't!
God I love this podcast.

We're on a roll baby.
Wild Blue Yonder was a really fun episode with a villain concept I always wanted to try myself so I was delighted seeing it in a Dr Who episode. Tennant and Tate keep killing it, I'm not ready to see 14 go already.
I'm so glad to have another thriller/horror episode of Doctor Who.
One point, I'm sure people are gonna whine that the Timeless Child and parts of the Flux haven't been retconned. And to be clear I don't like the Timeless Child twist, but I always stand by that its far better to work a bad plot point into a good one rather than nuke it.
Also is it weird to say 14 might become my favourite Doctor? I mean, 10 has always been my favourite but I just really like this alternate interpretation of 10 whose a bit more open with their emotions but just as chaotic and angsty. And I just love this outfit too.
In short, Doctor Who's 60th anniversary is still delivering.

Okay, is Twitter/Reddit leaking that hard?
What is happening here on Tumblr of lately? Why do people suddenly feel the need, to go to art-posts and comment/reblog with clearly negative and derogative stuff about the pictured character(s)?
Do you think that's how you get the artist to draw your faves instead of theirs? Well, bad news - this is how you get the artist to stop posting their art alltogether!
If I want to discuss my problematic faves (and I don't think I have even one unproblematic one, to be honest. Not even the Salamanders!) I'm making a post for that. Or many posts. Because I like to discuss my horrible gremlins. Because I know they are the absolutely worst guys (affectionate). I have read everything there is about them (even the most obscure shit retconned long ago) and I'm ready to fight on a proper discussion-post.
But if I post fun, lighthearted art of them ... I don't know how this could lead to the conclusion I want to get told how hard they suck and how to best kill them!
I'm used to this from Twitter and I'm not surprised if it happens there. It's even a game I'm playing with myself: "How long until the first 'But he stabbed Argel Tal and I can never forgive him for that!'-comment after I posted art of Erebus? Ten minutes? Two hours?" (it's ten minutes, mostly). Or "How many 'He sucks and can't fight'-whines after I post Lucius?" (a lot. It's a lot) It's just Twitter. Twitter is the Mos Eisley of Social Media. I'm posting there because I'm a whore for likes, that's all.
But - et tu, Tumble?

Haven't you complained endlesly about Frozen concepts art and ideas and being "better than the movie" and yet none of the Wish original ideas are good enough? Is there a difference or do you just like to complain
I think the difference between Frozen and Wish can be summed up best as:
Frozen: actually based on a Hans Christian Anderson tale! Featured a Devil's magic evil mirror, actual indigenous people of the Scandinavian region (albeit in outdated terms); got butchered by Disney into something practically unrecognizable aside from a single character's powers and two backgrounders named after the original protagonists, also erased the participation of the Saami characters and then half-assed tried to retcon it by inventing the Northuldra in the second piece
Literally, aside from Elsa and maybe the trolls how exactly is this an adaptation of The Snow Queen?
Wish is entirely made up and Disney could do whatever they wanted, but a lot of the early concepts that everyone wails about "BEING ROBBED" were just boring.
Ideas get drawn, talked about for five minutes, and dropped. Hence most of the Wish concept art that people keep grabbing up to whine about the film. Just cause it was drawn out doesn't mean it was impactful. How many Starboy arts are there? 3? And "evil power couple" Amaya and Magnifico, 2 pieces?
Compared to all the art of frozen, developing a look for evil!Elsa and Anna and they seemed pretty sure of the concepts they wanted by the time most of the art was put in a book. And then they cast Idina Menzel and decided she didn't have the voice for a villainous character, which is frankly an insult to the woman who's known for the Wicked Witch of the West.

There are people who say Genesis is the worst character in the entire FF franchise I mean wtf
Sometimes, I think people just like to be dramatic, much like Genesis himself! Obviously Gen isn't the best written character and is basically wasted potential. But people who claim that he's OFFENSIVELY bad are legit overreacting. I've seen way worse characters.
Genesis would be fine with a bit of polishing. Seeing livestreamers and gamer channels acting like he's the antichrist is pretty cringe tbh. He's just an edgy asshole. His monologues are corny and occasionally irritating, but there's a distinct personality there. He goes through a legitimate arc. There's his childhood journal, which adds some much needed pathos. There's all the right ingredients, just sloppy execution.
I'm really tired about people whining about his Nibelheim cameo. It doesn't break the OG. It doesn't break Sephiroth's agency. It adds context and a reasonable flow of events beyond Sephiroth seeing some random tanks and going apeshit. Could it have had better writing? Definitely. Should Genesis have been so on the nose? Probably not. But it fits into a wider narrative in a way that adds to both Sephiroth as well as the game's themes of broken bonds. Genesis is direct and blunt with his reveal, but it gives Sephiroth an incentive to make him want to explore the information firsthand, leading him to go on his reading binge and thus kick-starting his madness. Sephiroth spends more time wallowing in the Shinra library than in the five minutes of talking to Genesis and blowing him off. It changes nothing in a way that goes against the original source material, beyond presenting the information to Sephiroth at a different location. And even then, Sephiroth is skeptical until he goes to see for himself. Nothing's really lost. If anything, his meltdown feels less abrupt because now he's had multiple sources, his former best friend AND old Shinra data, to confirm his suspicions. It just further tightens his convictions and secures his descent into insanity because there are even LESS assurances otherwise.
I think Sephiroth jumping in The Last Order is worse than the entire inclusion of Genesis in Nibelheim. I also think the entirety of Dirge of Cerberus is infinitely worse than all of Genesis' scenes combined. If we're going to trash retcons and new additions, there's worse targets.

OOO THANK U SO MUCH this is gonna be fun
12. Is your OC self-destructive? In what ways?
ohhhH HO HOHO Yeah
in mainverse he has that whole...icarus thing going on what with his business DESPITE seeing how its gone poorly for other once-lers and seeing the warning signs from his own situation as well
it's also in the whole...substance abuse thing he's got going on. i know i don't show it because i want his main blog to be more relatively Family Friendly, but it's a thing.
in truffula flu it permeates almost everything he is. despite how much he tries to do good and Fix things and Make Up for his Big Mistake, deep down he finds...comfort in the misery. if he's miserable, if things are terrible for him, then that means he's suffering and that's Good because then people can't be mad at him. he's already suffering, isn't that enough? you have to pity him a little bit if he's feeling so visibly terrible. he also just straight up always feels like he deserves everything bad that happens to him, despite if he says its not fair or whatever, he's just whining. he absolutely, in his bones, believes he deserves it
so he keeps that going even if most of the time it really isn't a conscious choice. he doesn't know he's doing it, but he is. he sabotages conversations with others (sometimes whole relationships), he latches onto the Worst Possible Situations and Hypotheticals that his brain feeds him, i mean he does it in a literal way with his (sorry self-harm moment) scratching off the top layers of skin with his nails thing he does, (self-harm moment over) anytime someone hands him a cigarette or alcohol he just takes it
somehow he manages to simultaneously be the guy clawing his way to the top of the hole he's in but also be the guy that's knocking dirt back down on top of him
16. What is your OC's pain tolerance like?
not great to be honest
in mainverse he's a big ol baby about pain
in truffula flu he's been in enough pain to sorta build up more of a tolerance? but it's still not good. However, comma, he is mega stubborn so even if it hurts like ass he's gonna try to do whatever he needs to do and not succumb to it, even if that means crying like a baby and being pathetic just to cope during it
17. What is the worst thing you have put your OC through story-wise?
IS THIS ANOTHER ATTEMPT TO GET ME TO SPILL THE BEANS ON THE RETCON
WELL IT WONT WORK especially not now that i have this New thing planned
but it's definitely that. like official-story-wise. it is That. teehee
1. What memory would your OC rather just forget?
in mainverse i'm not actually sure....he has a bunch of suck-ass memories but for him to just pick ONE to wipe? hmmm...
it's probably something embarrassing as hell he did at an event or something. like those things rich people throw together, he probably got sloshed off his ass and did something really stupid that when he remembers it it makes him want to crawl in a hole and die from embarrassment
in truffula flu..man.. well refer up to 17 for one. LMAO. there's lots of things also that HE did he'd rather forget. like most of the shit he pulled at the hardware store, for instance
i think actually he'd rather forget the stuff HE did to people, though, more than what was done to him. even if he knows it won't undo it, i think that's why. because he can't undo what he's done so he'd rather just not dwell on it. and would rather remember the shit that was done to him because otherwise he's just gonna have all these...Issues and Trauma symptoms and just not remember why the hell he does and that would suck

Big fan of when LGBT games don't let players opt out of being gay.
AAA games often use player choice for their LGBT representation. The big LGBT rep in AAA space comes from choice-driven RPGs, that allow you to opt into or out of different relationships as you so choose, as part of playing your character however you want. And that's a good thing to have. Don't get me wrong.
Even if they do sometimes reserve the right to hetcon your character at a later date, Assassin's Creed Odyssey.
(Disclaimer: Bi people exist. If you're playing your character as bi then that's great. Good for you. But it's still gross to be like "Your character can be gay, bi, or straight, however you want," and then suddenly remove 'gay' from the list.
Especially in the same game that was going to have a canonically female PC but then slid in an optional male one for marketability, in a franchise that had previously whined about it being too hard and expensive to add optional female PCs to their games.)
But that's not the point. We are not here to complain about Assassin's Creed. We are not... only here to complain about Assassin's Creed.
Indie is often a lot better about this, but often still does use subtle themes or player choice to let you opt out of being gay. This isn't a criticism; people put their hearts and souls into these games all the same, and often the themes are still so strong that you'd have to be a total dipshit to miss them.
The point is just. Like. I want to see more games going, "This character, the player character, is gay. Or bi. Or ace. Or whatever. That's what I, the writer, decided and that's what you're going to play." I hope we can reach a point, as a society, where we're comfortable making games where you can't opt out of being gay.
Because there are so many games out there that don't let you opt out of being straight.
(Also more ace representation that's explicitly ace rather than passively ace, so it can't be retconned by future entries, while we're at it. The line between "Character is ace" and "Character hasn't been written into a romance yet" is too fuzzy and easily crossed with how aces in media get written.)
