Some Toxic Dickbabs moments that happened in canon. (LONG POST)

so i saw a dickbabs shipper talking crap about dickkory saying they're the most toxic nightwing ship? and they also claim dickbabs is the most healthiest ? it's ironic considering I've seen many dickbabs comic panels where dickbabs is being toxic towards each other plenty of times in the canon comics. Looks like Tom Taylor wants to brainwash people and make them believe that Dickbabs is such a perfect healthy loving couple since day 1, when that hasn't been true at all before he was put in charge of the nightwing comics to write dickbabs wattpad fanfiction in the book every single issue, this ship has done nothing but damage both characters even in tom taylor's run Dick is turned into a happy go lucky himbo who is incapable of accomplishing anything on his own without being monitored and babysat by barbara 24/7.

Anyways let's proceed with dickbabs history of being a toxic couple.

Remember those times where Barbara physically and verbally assaulted him when he was only trying to be nice and polite. She yelled at him, called him stupid, a crybaby and beat him up.

Also they keep calling Kory a victim blamer for something that happened once in over 30 years ago but ignore the fact that Babs has victim blamed him and slutshamed him multiple times in the modern comics when he was sexually assaulted and raped by Tarantula and when he got shot in the head by the Joker.

Dick just got raped by Tarantula and was traumatized by what happened but instead of comforting Dick, she has the nerve to mockingly say Dick likes his rapist. her jealousy always clouds her judgement.

I'm sorry But Barbara is canonically a victim blamer and a slutshamer. Don't forget how she also insults and slutshames other women like Helena when she gets jealous of the other women in Dick's life. She called dickhelena a cheap one nightstand even though Dick clearly told Helena he doesn't do casual sex and and she mocked Kory and refused to help her on a mission when her people were dying.

so yeah let's get back to her history with victim blaming Dick. She victim blamed him again after he got shot in the head and had an amnesia and when his memories was restored, she lashed out at him for forgetting about her when he had an amnesia.

And remember that time when Bludhaven was burned down and Dick lost his apartment, he came to Barbara to ask if he can stay at her place but she kicked him out of her apartment the next day. She's totally fine with him being homeless but dickbabs shippers claim babs has always been very loving and supportive towards him while calling Kory a slut.

Even in elseworld stuff she treats him like garbage. Aside from cheating on Dick with Batman and getting pregnant with Batman's baby in the BTAS universe, she's also very emotionally abusive to him in comics where dickbabs shippers brag about them having a kid in it like in whiteknight.

Barbara was always out there acting like a toxic judgemental domineering bitch in the modern canon comics, Barbara behaved like this consistently for more than 30 years but Kory is the one we should crucify over something that she did only once from 30 years ago 🙄 Did they crucify Barbara too when she was ableist to Cass and called her stupid because she can't read.

And they call Kory a sexual assaulter? Because she kissed him when they first met. Did they forgot that Kory was an alien, she was clueless about Earth laws when she first came to earth, she didn't know that you're actually not supposed to kiss someone without their consent, she had no clue that it was considered inappropriate and she kissed him not to sexually assault him but for her to learn english. Her people can learn other languages through kissing and Kory didn't learn anything about Human law until she officially joined the teen titans, so you can actually excuse her for her behavior what's not excusable is Barbara who was a human being who studied law for years, but still has the nerve to commit a sexual crime. As always, She violated Dick's personal privacy, she put camera on his apartment so she can enjoy watching him naked without his consent. Look it up on google the crime is called voyeurism. Barbara would considered a creepy criminal by human law. I'm not surprised considering I always think of her as a type of gf who has no respect for her partner's personal space especially when she's Oracle, She never respected Dick's privacy even in tom taylor's run, she keeps monitoring his every move in her computer, she always invades his personal space. Dick is trapped in this relationship. It's not a good relationship if you constantly watch your partner's every move and if you keep following your partner around like a dog wherever he goes.

Many people think Dickbabs is such a healthy because of Tom Taylor's run. I think for someone who is a huge dickbabs shipper like tom taylor it's expected he's gonna try to convince people to believe that to to sell his favorite ship but in reality even in Tom Taylor's run Dickbabs relationship is pretty toxic and forced. It's toxic when your partner doesn't respect your privacy, when your partner constantly stalks and keeps an eye on you on every single thing that you do, when you wanna talk to other people but she's there lurking in her computer listening to your conversations with other people, when she puts a camera on your mask so she can always see what you see and hear what you hear, as if you're not a real human being who needs your own privacy, and constantly follows you around like a dog, like Barbara does to him every single issue. It really is a sign of an abusive relationship when there is no respect. How is Tom Taylor's Nightwing good when the book keeps destroying Dick's independece by having Barbara stuck to him like a leech 24/7 . The book is called Nightwing but Tom Taylor turned it into a Nightwing and Batgirl fanfiction series where 90% of the time Dick hasn't done anything on his own and where his IQ is chopped off in half to prop up Barbara as the smarter woman in their relationship. Dick can't even handle his own missions without constantly being babysat by Barbara in her computer like a sidekick who needs to be watched 24/7.

Poor Dick he became Nightwing to stop being Batman's sidekick and be independent only for Barbara to take away his independence and treat him like a sidekick again. Dickbabs has always been a toxic ship in any kind of form.

and don't forget Tom Taylor himself is a toxic misogynist slutshamer. He keeps throwing shade on Kory on twitter by liking comments that slutshame her on twitter

You know what would be the best way to fix dickbabs? is by letting them move on from each other! Let them grow tf up and move forward in life outside this relationship.

Babs is an anchor that brings him down whenever she's too involved in his life and same with Babs because do dickbabs shippers even care about Barbara. I haven't seen any barbara fan complain about barbara not doing anything on her own other than chasing dick around like a dog in his comicbook every single issue.

Oh Tom Taylor and his hypocrisy and double standard.

Tom Taylor is doing bbrae because he thinks bbrae is a well known titan couple so it's expected they're gonna be a thing in his titan book but don't want to give the same energy to dickkory who is also a well known titan couple and the original canon main titan couple.

He and his team talk about how bbrae is so good and how they have so much history and how they're such an important part of the titans franchise but is so tone deaf when it comes to Dickkory. 😅 they're doing bbrae because they think they have so much history (even though bbrae never had an actual relationship in the original titans series, if i remember correcly bbrae only started in Geoff John's run) but they refuse to acknowledge dickkory's history who has the original actual serious relationship.

He talks about how his titans run is inspired by the classic new teen titans series and how much he respects and acknowledges that series. If Tom Taylor really respects new teen titans maybe he should atleast acknowledge that the new teen titans creator himself said Dickkory shouldn't have been broken up huh 🥹

I agree with the person's reply, the main reason he's doing bbrae is because he refuses to do dickkory because he ships dickbabs and he wants to find a way to replace dickkory as the main titan couple.

Watch how tom taylor will continue to:

- erase dickkory's relationship and history .

-reduce them into a temporary fling.

-shoehorn babs in the titans book.

-force dickbabs in titans.

-use starfire and the others titans to prop up dickbabs.

-make bbrae or dickbabs the main titan couple.

Whether you agree with this article or not , you can't deny that there are So many DickBabs fans and writers who actually don’t care about Barbara as an individual character.

The current Nightwing run did very little with Barbara as an individual that’s completely unrelated to Nightwing. In every single page of that book, She only exists to be Dick's lovesick clingy GF.

Even in other books, she shows up just to be seen with him and will not stop mentioning him. She can't do anything without him nowadays.

What's also sad is that dickbabs shippers are fine when she's isolated from her own team and own agency as long as she gets to stay with Nightwing. None of them complained when Barbara was excluded from the recent Birds of Prey run. Her independence is sacrificed for the sake of shipping.

Barbara needs her independence back. She deserves better fans and better writers who ask for something that increases her value as a character. Not just being known as Nightwing's GF.

Not only is B*rbara G*rdon frequently held up as an “acceptable” alternative to love interests of color, that was literally the entire point of her character’s inception. Seriously, look it up. The 60s Batman series invented B*tgirl to be a potential love interest for Bruce after they hired a Black actress to play Catwoman. I’m not saying it’s bad to like B*rbara, it’s literally fine, but understand that the way she’s used by the Bat narrative is off-putting to some people and that’s entirely valid. Also, if they make a B*tgirl and Nightwing movie I’m not watching it. Especially after they cancelled Titans and especially if they hire a white girl to play her after cancelling Leslie’s B*tgirl movie. Sometimes too much is just too much.

Why I don't like Barbara being shoehorned on the Titans.

Reasons why:

1. The main reason why she's on the team is because of Dick. Her relationship with the Titans has always been reliant on Dick. She never had any history with the Titans before retcons pushed her and dick together. She has become a character who hates being away from Dick and always wants to follow him in every mission he takes. When she's with the Titans, it only feels like it's because writers don't know what else to do with her other than making her follow Dick around like a dog.

2. It's part of the whole dickbabs agenda and dickkory erasure. Editorial loves to include dickbabs in everything and They hate the idea of Dick being paired or shipped with anyone other than Barbara. They know Starfire is Dick's other huge love interest and their relationship was a huge part of the Titans franchise. They don't like that so they want to erase that by shoehorning Barbara in the Titans and making Dick/Babs the focus on Titans stuff.

3. Barbara dumbs down the Titans so she can shine on their team.

Barbara especially as Oracle tends to be hyped up but the truth is she's not the only hacker or tech user in the entire dc universe. Titans has plenty of tech users. So in reality she's not needed by the Titans. She fills in niches that are already occupied by the Titans.

Dick - leader, martial artist, tactician, detective, tech user, hacker.

Cyborg - tech user, hacker and information broker.

Starfire - team mom

and all of the Titans are active communicators and they all know how to use a computer, and please starfire is an expert pilot, i remember she even owns a spaceship and hacked other alien ships. she knows how to operate a spaceship how much more using a computer 🙄

They don't need Barbara or Oracle's help for them to accomplish something using a computer or for them to be able to communicate to each other and reach out to other heroes.

The Titans can directly talk to each other through their communicators and earpieces and they have a huge computer at titans tower, and cyborg has all the high-tech stuff but when Barbara shows up, the Titans suddenly don't know how to call each other or use a computer, they make them rely on Oracle for communication and tech stuff.

The Titans are dumbed down to make Barbara shine as a tech user and to make her look smarter and useful to their team.

For example look at how Tom Taylor made Dick look dumb here. He had to call Barbara first and ask her to help him reach out to his own teammates when he can just call them right away on his own, it's funny because he wrote that Dick can't call his teammates directly because he lost signal yet he has the signal to call Barbara. Tom Taylor and his dumb excuses indeed 🙂

and look at Cyborg needing to be watched by Barbara as if his high-tech sensors are unable to detect the villains approaching his back, and lol Nightwing just stands there doing nothing while Barbara monitors his own teammates when that is supposed to be his job since he's their leader. He was nerfed into a lazy irresponsible leader too much that he didn't even know his own teammate is in australia. He's not even allowed to use the titans computer when Barbara is around him.

and look at Kory, she never calls Barbara while on missions before and suddenly she has no clue what to do without Barbara guiding her move???

The Titans never needed Barbara to accomplish anything on their own. They've fully functioned and communicated with each other for decades without her. They never needed to be babysat by some girl from Gotham. Barbara has never even been mentioned once in the original New Teen Titans comics but they become the most dumbest useless versions of themselves when Barbara is suddenly around, she's written in a way that makes the Titans redundant, stealing their jobs and spotlight to make herself look like a badass hero. Nightwing can't act like a real leader, Cyborg can't be the tech user of the group, Raven can't be the voice of reason, Titans can't use a computer and other tech stuff etc. because she can't shine if they do that. The only way for her to stand out on a team she has nothing to do with her is by dumbing everyone around her.

Barbara should be with her own team Birds of Prey not on a team she has nothing to do with.

4. The Titans become another Batman-related group.

We all know the story of Dick when he joined the Titans. He left Gotham and quit being Batman's sidekick because he doesn't wanna be under Batman's shadow anymore. The Titans helped him be independent from the Bats.

I don't like that Barbara keeps invading his privacy and space. The Titans is supposed to be a place where Dick can be away from the Batfamily and do his own thing.

and the Titans is Dick's own team, I don't like the idea of Barbara overriding his own agency.

She needs to do something on her own without associating herself with Dick 24/7

Plus the Bats are pretty oversaturated in DC, we don't need them overtaking Titans as well.

If another Bat related character has to show up then it has to be just one of the robins since Robin is a titan character.

Batgirl or Barbara has never been a Titan. She only ever wants to show up because of her romance with Dick. I do think Dick/Babs relationship is a mistake and that It shoudn't have happened. It's not a good relationship if you have to shoehorn it in places it doesn't belong in and dumbing down other characters along the way just for it to make sense or make Barbara's presence in Dick's life stronger than it should be.

I wish editorial didn't retcon them into lovers. Their relationship did more damage to their characters and the people around them than when they were not together.

The "His older crush that he outgrew and learned to move on from" trope was already fine. I hate that they changed that story by aging down Barbara to be the same age as Dick so they can be together instead of just letting them move on from each other.

Dick wouldn't have to stay stuck with Barbara 24/7 and Barbara wouldn't have to keep following Dick around like a dog wherever he goes if they just kept it in the past.

I was wondering how you got into some of the Barbara Gordon ships you like because I feel like she's a very unpopular character to ship with others and most people don't really bother having fun shipping with her.

I have this nsfw hc about Barbara where I feel like because she is someone who always has to be in control of situations that when she is sharing intimacy with a partner she likes to be controlled/dominated. Which is ironic because I have a nsfw hc about Jason Todd where I feel like because he didn't have control of situations in his life that he needs control and would seek out control in intimate situations with partners and would need to dominate.

I'm just an observant viewer who pays attention to character dynamics I think are interesting and the ship grows in me naturally. I don't give two cents about what other people on this fandom think it should be banned, cancelled or not allowed to ship for dumb idiotic reasons.

"But Barbra should date other people outside batboyes!!11111" "But the Arkham games aren't allowed to create an AU with an adult Tim Drake and pair him up with Barbra they're cancelled now!11111" "But Bruce and Barbra are like father and daugther I command everyone to cancel this ship and Bruce Timm is pro-incest weirdo who should be banished from the industry for daring to ship them together!!1111"

All background annoying noise in my ears. Weak reasons crafted by childish people not worth obeying. They're also hypocritical. Like, many of them would love to see a gangbang between Dick and the batboys. Hell, they headcanon Dick as a slut who likes to get banged by every older man on this universe and that's ok (I'm not judging. I'm ok with those headcanons as well, since I ship JayDick, SlaDick and BruDick with passion), but for Barbara to headcanon her the same way is morally wrong? Screw them.

Don't they realize the problem is DC putting mediocre writters to write Barbara into fucking DickBabs of all things and not the fans who dream about their own stories featuring this character? All the problems they try to inject into BruBabs, JayBabs, TimBabs, etc are already present on canon DickBabs lol.

-She got deaged and her personality got reduced into forever hormonal silly teen girl so she could be paired up with Dick and fullfill the trope of the americanized shoujo-like romance in comics.

-She changed from being Batman's love interest and an indepentent hero to be "like a daughter" to Bruce and subjugated to the Bat-family so she can be a pretty accesory to Dick.

-When she isn't dating Dick, she has to be thinking about him, mentioning him, comparing him to her current love interest. She also needs to be thinking about him and talking about him when she's working.

-She doesn't have any agenda of her own anymore, she only exists to be Dick's love interest and get comicbros horny by fullfilling the rol of being a female Batman with tits and ass.

All those problems are DickBabs problems, not JayBabs'. Not BruBabs'. Not TimBabs'. When BruBabs was a thing, Barbara was not a deaged insufferable idiot. She was independent. She was an equal comrade in arms to Bruce. When JayBabs got a few issues back in Batman Ethernal (I'm not counting Three Jokers because that's a whole other can of worms), she helped Jason go into a little arc and their bond progressed naturally from working together on screen. When TimBabs was a thing in the Arkham games, she was the best version of herself there's around, period. She was professional, a computer genius as Oracle, who was focused on the mission and being Tim's love interest was just a small part of her, not her defining core. And also OH. LOOK. Those devs proved you can cut DickBabs from the equation and have Barbara and Dick be themselves and their core character traits remain untouched LMAO. GET REKT YOU PIECE OF SHIT PAIRING.

So yeah, considering alll those points I just expanded upon, I say I'm in my right to ship JayBabs and TimBabs. And BardBabs too. Jason Bard also got disrespected and fucked over DickBabs and I don't fogive nor forget.

That hyprocritical argument FOR SOME REASON does not apply to JayTemis I guess. Shipping JayTemis is ok while that bitch is like +200 years older than Jason, but with Babs is morally wrong because of her being like 11 years older than him? Fuck this logic. I don't care. At least I'm not deaging her. I'm respecting she is an experienced woman who went through tons of dark stuff and Jason admires that. Hell, in my headcanon, with Jason being a crimelord who has traveled all around the world learning assassin training, he would be bored as hell with some 20 years old girl. Lmao. What would they even talk about?

And I love Arkham Tim Drake and I think every creator is on their right to create their own AU story. The Arkham devs created their own thing and I love it. I ship the hell out of Arkham TimBabs, pair that also allowed me to have single Nightwing dancing his pretty ass over my face on his purest expression. 10/10. Antis go cry me a river.

I saw this video and I couldn't agree more of what they said.

I'm sick and tired of dickbabs. It's being shoehorned everywhere, I can't read Nightwing's solo without Babs showing up every single issue, Tom Taylor turned his solo into a Dickbabs shipping book.

Batgirls is supposed to be about Stephanie and Cassandra's book but Babs took their spotlight and forced her relationship with Dick in it too.

DC vs Vampires is supposed to be about DC universe as a whole fighting against vampires but they centered it around Dickbabs in the end.

and now in the Titans series and even in Starfire's tales of the titans solo issue Babs shows up even though she's never been a titan character???? And Babs has to take up space, why?? Why can't I read a book solely about Starfire, why do they have to share her book with Babs, don't we have enough Barbara Gordon in the comics especially in Nightwing solo.

Starfire and the Titans never needed to be monitored by Barbara, they never needed her help to accomplish their own missions since 1980 but ever since DC and Tom Taylor started pushing dickbabs , she now keeps showing up in Titans and every single other book where dick shows up, she's now attached to dick's team 24/7, is this to keep closer with dick as much as possible?????

Babs is now in charge of Dick's team??? She's now the tech support of the Titans ?? What about Cyborg??? Why does Cyborg seem useless in the Titans book. Why is it that he no longer does most of the computer/tech stuff for the team. You're gonna sideline Cyborg who is the actual Titan tech support and the actual information broker of the group over a non titan character like Babs???

Seriously. Babs has become the female version of Batman, where writers are too obsessed with her and keep shoehorning her in other characters books and stories. You don't see writers forcing Starfire and her relationship with Dick in Batfamily books so why force Barbara and Dickbabs in Titans books.

Look I know dickbabs is currently in a relationship right now because writers keep forcing the two but Babs doesn't always have to follow dick wherever he goes and she doesn't always have to show up in books where he shows up. It should not be a requirement. Let Dick be on his own with other people for once.

You can be in a relationship with someone but still do your own thing with other people at the same time. Like in real life does your partner always follow you wherever you go 24/7? no right?! Because everyday we wake up and go to work , your partner has their own job and own workplace too seperate from yours so why should Babs always be around Dick as if she have doesn't have a life or a job of her own, can't she do anything without Dick nowadays????

I don't like how her character has become reliant on Dick, it's like she can't exist without being around him or mentioning him. Everything she does revolves around dick. She even left her own life in gotham so she could stay with Dick in Bludhaven every single issue, and even when she goes back to Gotham temporarily like in Batgirls she still finds a way to bring up her relationship with dick like that time in Batgirls where she has to mention she is wearing Dick's underwear??????

Set them free of this relationship for once DC smh

I'm done with the infamous Devin Grayson run and... I'm not really going to reshash what's problematic about it, I think we all read it... Just... I'm frustrated.

I was pretty mid on Babs and Dick before that, I now never want to see them together again. I'm now actively not shipping them anymore as opposed to being: "they are okay, this is cute !" Which is a problem considering the ending (sorry dickbabs shippers i know I shouldn't but I can't)

I'm a fanfiction reader, we all read angst fest but I really wish it was handled better.

There were some good ideas in there, the renegade arc was interesting (until it got boring) and Dick as a mentor is always really really fun and he is an extremely good mentor. The first case all around the world was very fun. It changed a little bit from the usual formula.

Now for the one thing that makes me furious, why the fuck did she think it was a good idea to end her run with having Dick saying he "takes responsibility for Tarantula and Blockbuster" Blockbuster, that's fine but Tarantula? He doesn't owe her any of his responsibility and considering this is part of the reason they broke up (Babs literally tells him: "he let himself be kissed by her" when they broke up), this is even more infuriating and he is essentially saying to Barbara about theirs relationship, it's just felt weirdly Victim blamey.

Also I would like to absolutely call bullshit on the fact that nobody was here from either the Titans or the Batfam after his apartment blew up, this was on live tv !!!!!!!!!

I'm done with it !! Outsiders here I come !!!!!!! The Dickroy of it all, seems to be chef kiss and I'm here for it, always.

I can understand that honestly. Dickkory is such a great ship and it's so sweet and romantic. I honestly can't imagine the two of them with someone else. They are soulmates.

I feel like Dickbabs is around for another way to make sure Dick stays with the Batfam. Dick is a very popular character and keeping him around gives an extra reason to read Bat books.

Also add in the people who have nostalgia and love for Dickbabs from Batman the animated series. It isn't the first or only time DC uses the love for that show as a way to gain popularity. Just look at Harley Quinn and having Kevin Conroy voicing Bruce in many different projects before his passing.

But I feel like they keep him not only from Kory but also from the Titans as well. They are also family to him but they almost always refuse to have him talk or reference them unless it's in Titans books.

oh shit i must've not seen it. here we are:

Believe it or not, I actually used to like this ship!!! Their first go around at a relationship was fine! Not amazing and it had issues but it had its cute moments! But there was the retconning. Oh, was there retconning. They had to age Barbara down just to make the relationship even possible, since she was in Congress when Dick was still a teenager. And then it got worse. Suddenly Barbara was Dick’s first crush/love. Suddenly all of his other relationships were explicitly inferior and his awesome longterm ex is being villified and shit talked and dismissed as a fling in-text. They broke up and stayed broken up for over a decade. Then suddenly Barbara had use of her legs back and was out of her wheelchair, and it was like every character spent a few years going “oh those two belong together!!” Without any of the stories ever demonstrating WHY. Then they suddenly got back together (after having Dick break up with yet another cool love interest!!!!) and immediately became characters I did not and do not recognize. Babs became a girlboss (derogatory) and Dick became a himbo (derogatory) and I hate it so so so so much it makes me so angry I can’t even keep talking about this I need to go before I explode

nuanced and complex but not overly serious or broody depiction of dick grayson/nightwing

batfamily isn't perfect but they still deeply love and care for eachother, often engaging in silliness and funky shenanigans

the titans consist of the current team + bumblebee/karen, garth and roy

bruce is a good father and not just a broody edgelord
