I feel like yami would be very jealous of yugi friends touching him or patting his head, he’s jealous of that because he can’t even hug yugi or even touch him. Sure they can feel each other emotion which yami is happy for, But he still gets jealous of yugi friends being able to touch him and he can’t.

I feel like yami would  manipulate yugi into who he can hang out with. “You can’t hang out with her. She is bad news” “I don’t trust him. Don’t talk to him” basically stuff like that. Leaving him with no friends so yami can only hang out with him

Ngl I feel like when yami has his own body- yugi would be FUCK. I feel like yami(with his own body) would basically be so selfish and possessive like 10 times worst when he didn’t have a body. Basically dragging him away from his friends and forcing him into only hanging out with him.

I feel like how this “possession” started would be basically yami growing  possessive of yugi because of the bond they grew. And basically yugi being his only friend and the first person that didn’t betray him- he grew a strong  attachment to him.

I feel like if he really and I mean REALLY needs to take action for yugi to stay with him he would trap yugi in his mind and wouldn’t let him go basically stuck there for eternity. Until yami feels like he can really trust him he would like him back in his body 

He would make yugi feel so bad for hanging out with people that he just said not to hang out with “Are you trying to get yourself hurt? I just said not to talk to them!” He would  manipulated him so bad, yugi would feel like shit and not talk to those people anymore

He can’t really physically hurt yugi when he does something “wrong” but mentally? Ohh boy. He can and he is so good at it.

Yugi wouldn’t really remember the things that yami did when he took control over his body.

Yami would definitely hurt people while  controlling yugi and making people distance from yugi and ofc yugi doesn’t remember it since yami  refuses to let him know about it. When he does? He cries and feels like he killed so many innocent people making him feel low and worthless.

When yugi tries to talk to yami about it and ask why is he doing this. Yami excuse is “you wished for friends. And the puzzle gave you me so I know what I’m doing.” And yugi would get so pissed off of him just saying it over and over again.(I do have a scenario idea when he does snap at him for this but I’ll save that for another time if you want it)

Yami would basically be a big brother to yugi. And that’s why yugi thinks he isn’t a bad person at all

Over all. Yami danger level is 7/10

If yami had his own body. He would definitely be that “friend” to pull you away when you are talking to other friends. Yea basically that with yugi

He would kidnap yugi if it’s really important again. But he would trap him in the basement in his own home, yugi can’t see shit since I feel like yami would blindfold him and basically leave him blindfolded until a week later.

Yami doesn’t really have any regrets or feel bad if yugi begs and cries to be let out. He knows what he is doing is “right” and he thinks yugi doesn’t understand it so he has to force yugi to learn.

He’s very cold when he is hurting yugi friends, he is very brutal with it, and he would make sure yugi will never EVER find out.

since he is a fucking god. I feel like it would be so hard for yugi to really escape. Yes he can escape the house by asking for help? Impossible. Everyone is sacred of what yami can do and basically ruin someone life with the money he has and his strength. So it will be pretty hard to ask for help so yugi better move into a different state if he wants to live

Yami is very very rich- he would set guards after yugi when he escape and try to make yugi comfortable so he wouldn’t leave him.

yami would be so pissed if yugi gets a girlfriend/boyfriend he would make them break up no matter what. He would blackmail them and make yugi hate them forever or just kill the person

He would put a tracking device on yugi so it would be so easy to find him. So that’s bad for yugi

I also feel like yami would let him out of the house IF he stops escaping that means no being bad or rude or anything for 3 years. If he is good for 3 years then he will let yugi go outside

He would be so so rough and mean if yugi escape. Hitting him and calling him names. It goes on for a week depending on how long he escape for.

He would make yugi wear fancy things like  jewelry and stuff. He’s rich rich 😍

Over all! He’s pretty dangerous. But he is very chill once yugi stop fighting him

It's incredibly hard to read Yu-Gi-Oh when I have to stop at every page bc Yugi and Yami Yugi's bromance makes me so goddamn emo.

However you wanna interpret their relationship, you can't tell me they're not literal soulmates.

Yami used to bet on his life a lot in the early manga because he thought he was Yugi. Another part of Yugi. Since meeting with him eyes to eyes and learning he has been betting on YUGI'S life all the while he's been incredibly ashamed of it and won't forgive anyone who threatens his aibou.

MEANWHILE Yugi has learned that the current villain has a grudge against Yami and wants to kill him which would also mean killing Yugi and Yugi ONLY CARES THAT YAMI IS IN DANGER. I can't. I just can't.

SO EMO over literal soulmates that learn more about themselves while knowing each other and then you have the audacity to ask me why I'm so obsessed with Ozpin and Oscar's bond???

Ya'know.

I can handle the ending of DM if I genuinely see it as a tragic ending. Like yeah, it is supposed to be bittersweet. Atem is dead and has been for years and so he gets to rest now. Bah.

But I think about why Atem did it. Why he felt he had to, why everyone didn't want it to happen but understood that it "had" to happen, or if Atem wanted it to happen or course they'd support him, and they did.

And sometimes I think about Atem's insecurities, I think about him feeling like a burden on Yugi's life, after he's changed enough from his supposed introduction where he's more than just other Yugi now. He's his own person and his partial existence has caused people so much grief. I think about, even with Yugi's reassurance that he belongs in their friend group, that he's not a burden on his life and greatly cherishes his company. Atem is still dead, Yugi is still mostly the only one that can see him without needing to take Yugi's body for a spin. I think of Atem's inspirational, motivational speech about Yugi being the only Yugi that's needed. That he didn't need anyone else than himself.

And I think about how Atem either truly believes that's Yugi's issue with him leaving

Or

Atem,,, couldn't think of anything to say, the best he can do is say that, even tho they'll part, in the metaphysical sense, they'll never truly rid of each other, in any of the ways that are positive to Atem.

I think about Atem still blaming himself for most things as he walks through that door.

I think about the actual tragedy in the fact that Atem is dead, and never got to grow up. Not really.

That is too say I cannot handle the ending at all.

Puzzleshipping is near and dear to my heart. It is what carries me through depression and it is my favorite thing to write for. But for me, it's so full of projection, like replacing the TV screen with a mirror that I've drawn on and - not to brag - in pretty mediocre at drawing.

Is platonic. Queer platonic. It's romantic but asexual. Whatever angle I'm getting at, it's sexless. Honestly, when I started with these two, they were brothers in my heart. But then I turned gay and so did they. They prioritize each other. They aren't interested in alternative relationships. They cuddle. They think the other is attractive, cute, pleasing. My favorite word is affectionate. They're soul mates. They are two halves. They're codependent. They need therapy. They take advantage of each other and are both aware of it and disagree the other is taking advantage of them. They view the other as extensions of themselves that they cannot control. They love each other.

So when I see sexual fanart of these two, I smile because I love how popular they are and move on because I'm not interested in that exactly. There are plenty of pieces that fill my interest perfectly fine.

But I have been very stingy sharing my boys, anything I've created for them. I think I'll put more of them on my AO3.

🔥Yugi: I like Yugi as a character a bit leaps and bonds more than I like Atem (while I do still like him plenty.) Their dynamic is crucial to DM of course but Yugi on his own is just a stellar character and I feel like sometimes he does get a little based over in favor of Yami Yugi (by both fans and official ygo merch and media.) Also I'm in the particularly unpopular camp of finding puzzleshipping much Much more engaging to me from a platonic standpoint as opposed to a romantic one. im like this with a lot of ships but that's probably the biggest instance of all. das platonic soulmates to me babey.

🔥Jaden: already talked a bit about it but i'm not the biggest fan of how his character was handled in Season 3, and I don't think the whole Supreme King situation was handled as well as it maybe could have been. Also Jaden is fat to me we know this I see it in my visions and I know it to be true in my heart

🔥Yusei: The concept of "z-one is evil yusei from the future," while a fun AU idea for sure, really just would not be as impactful on 5D's narrative as what we got instead, as I've rambled and raved about many a time. Yusei seems to get hit was a particularly large amount of "whump" in fanspaces, just a really perpetual desire to see him in some state of misery, that I don't really jive with.

🔥Yuma: HE'S A GOOD CHARACTER. AND I LIKE HIM. AND HE IS MY FRIEND. I think there's such a charm factor to his personality, to me him being a little annoying is a feature not a bug, he's so delightfully rambunctiously 13 and so full of unconditional love. it rocks that he loses a bunch. i dont think zexal would work half as well as it does if yuma was older/more mature/an unflappably confident duelist. there is so much beauty in the flaws we get to see him work with and through.

🔥Yuya: ok actually i havent really seen enough of arc-v yet to have a concrete unpopular opinion on him. watch this space over the next couple of months im sure something with spring up in my brain. i do really like him a lot ;_;

Hello! Same YGO anon from before, just coming here to gush.

You know what I love about Puzzleshipping? How it flips the definition of strength and how both Atem and Yugi fit the role of the ''stronger'' one.

For instance, conventionally Atem is considered the stronger of the two since he is the one who does most of the dueling, yet he always considered Yugi better than him, and in his most dire moments the true source of his power is his partner.

My favourite moments of this are the Noah duel and the DOMA arc as a whole, where in both cases Atem was convinced there was no hope, until Yugi in both cases told him everything would be alright.

Not only that, but whenever Yugi himself had to duel, he always drew strength from the fact that he had to win for Atem.

I even love noticing that in their ceremonial duel, the fact that Atem expected Yugi to beat the God Cards in a way goes beyond mere strategy and shows how his faith on his partner was always absolute, even when others were skeptical about Yugi's competence.

I just love these two.

They're truly so good, top tier ship to my mind, and even if you just see them as platonic, their relationship is still hands down one of if not the best part of the original yugioh.

I wish I had more to add but you pretty much said it all, I completely agree. They just complement each other nicely and each has strengths (and weaknesses) the other doesn't. They consistently bring out the best in each other.

Aight, more for the fic I wrote about this morning at 2am.

Along with the motorcycle they drive, I think Judai would be the kind of person who skateboards and dances, there’s this TimmyTocker that I follow who would be the inspiration for his dances. They’re really cool and I put a link here to their page:

So, I would think that this time around maybe Jaden would try to focus on his studies, like now they’ve gotten some actual experience in applying the stuff that would be taught at duel academy so…. Probably getting Bs and Cs, they’re passing this time. Also the fact that Atem probably taught both Yubel and Judai about Egyptian culture, literature, practices, eta. Atem wouldn’t leave this child (no he (Atem)does not have the memories and stuff) without some form of schooling, and it would probably be a way for Atem to reintroduce themself into their own culture.

Also the Yugi and Atem thing I should probably explain- So the two of them started out in the Season 0 timeline where Atem was cruel and Yugi was small(er). This is not a part of the GX fic but just worldbuilding.

Yugi figured out that “Hey there’s someone in here with me” and they met. No it was not smooth, but they figured out how to get along, “Yami” was always this shadow figure and didn’t have a corporal form/Yami Yugi form. After some proving that there was no ill wishes on both sides, they got along. They start working together and become friends, (Puzzleshipping is here, you can write it as platonic and/or romantic)

Around the Battle City Arc, Kaiba makes a device to trap “Yugi” in a duel with him, not knowing that it was ment to split the victim’s soul away from the body. (Meddling from Mav or Bakura it’s anyone’s guess) but because there were two souls inhabiting one body (they kept it under wraps really well) instead of sending “Yugi” (both Atem and Yugi) to the shadow realm, the universe went “Aight, time to reset” and sends them back to the pilot of S1, so, the universe went “That was a little dark let’s make it more kid friendly” and so Yugi and Atem (Still called Yami because of stupid memory loss) traverse the Duel Monsters show :D.

Judai makes a conscious effort to not show any of their powers/spooky shit that happens when they are around friends, and everyone thinks that Jaden is normal. Also Koriboh isn’t with him in card form, but is there in spirit knowing that Judai is the spirit successor (I would say it shows up around the 6th or 7th week of class)

Judai did the whole “Showing up late” thing on the first day and fought Crowler on the first day getting the Hero deck. Solidifying the “class clown” role he had the first time around. Vibes in the forest or on the rocks on the beach all the time if nobody is needing them, and is very good at deflecting when it comes to people asking about his backstory.

Judai also when pissed LOOKS like Atem from s0, like the parallels are ✨there✨ and yes he looks like his father. I love it. I’ll add more later and probably put a number on them so people don’t get confused-
