Okay, I just got back from seeing Dune part 2. Feyd-Rautha is a bald, murderous, cunning, cannibalistic, raspy-voiced sociopath who would probably kill me as soon as he'd look at me.
...So why the hell do I want him so badly lol?!
its gonna take more than a three hour bald cap to deter ME #feydfuckernation
in all honesty tho he is GENUINELY captivating. feyd is already such an interesting character in his own right because of how he's set up as both a mirror to paul and potential alternative (in the eyes of the bene gesserit). it's no surprise that a good villain is just as if not more memorable than the hero sometimes, especially when you have an actor like austin AND a director like dennis who can take an already incredibly rich source material and make magic like that onscreen. feyd is regularly touted as a murderous sociopath but he's portrayed in a way that feels more fully realized than just "look at me i'm a psychopath and i'm cRAZYYYY" (ex: resident dead horse jared leto joker). villains tend to offer something forbidden, a way for us to examine the more unsavory aspects of the human condition within the confines of fiction. austin plays feyd rautha the way anthony hopkins plays hannibal lecter; there is something oddly charismatic and captivating at work in his performance that we simply cannot help but be drawn in.

One of the big cosplay projects I'll be working on in 2024 is Gabriel May from Malignant so here's the (still growing) playlist I made to listen to while I work on it! I don't know if anyone still talks about this film but it's one of my all time favourites (I could talk about it for hours, I even have a tattoo of Gabriel's trophy knife). Needless to say I'm super keen to get started on this project!

you and every other white lesbian got a problem with the handmaiden
u know its based on a book written by a white lesbian silly... fwiw bc of my deep repulsion towards hollywood like 90% of the films i watch and love are produced by non-white people outside of the US/UK. i think white women have produced plenty of lesbian films i find just as uncompelling mostly because I just don't identify with fem4fem lesbian couples but also because the whole sensibilities surrounding visual representations of lesbian couples generally not played or directed by lesbians and not with an audience of lesbians primarily in mind are inherently limiting of the things i personally find compelling (masculine women).
I didn't say it was a BAD film either, although I would be within my rights to not like a film if I didn't like it. i said i did not personally find it compelling: i was comparing two sarah waters books, tipping the velvet (in which the protagonist is a male impersonator) and fingersmith (which the handmaiden is based on) in terms purely of how sexy they are.
i assume you're assuming i was repeating the claims of others than the handmaiden is bad because of the 'male gaze' but whilst i was not doing that & am not interested in weighing in, i think it's just a weird choice and insulting to everyone to act like the ways a man of colour depicts female characters and desire between women is immune to criticism or something. like i said the problem for me is that i don't see myself in depictions of relationships between feminine women but if the problem was that i don't see myself in depictions of relationships between women which were directed by men i would be entitled to that opinion too.
and i mean i don't even really think the handmaiden is intended as a depiction of lesbian love with which lesbians are supposed to actually identify, in the way that say tipping the velvet is largely written to be a story for (butch and femme) lesbians to see ourselves in, and i think there's soooo many other (more) valid aims for a story to have and i generally don't watch/read things with the primary goal of seeing myself in them. the handmaiden is not a bad film. i don't find it sexy because i don't find feminine women sexy. what was the point of any of this.

Seriously, though, I’ve watched a lot of rom coms of varying quality (mostly hetero, but my fair share of queer ones too) and, while I maaaaybe wouldn’t put RWRB in the top tier of what I’ve seen, it’s a really fucking good solid rom com imho
I don’t know, maybe I’m just easily pleased and too tired to be more objective about media these days, but you know what? I was very bloody pleased!!
And, like, for me I need a rom com to be rewatchable and for the leads to sell me on the romance and to come out smiling and RWRB did all of that and maybe it could have done more but, right now, I’m happy (okay, I don’t know that it’s rewatchable yet but I have a sneaking suspicion that it will be and I’m dying to watch it again)
Plus, I looked at my list of all the queer films I’ve seen and I counted maybe 20 rom coms out of 600+ movies (tbf some of those are only on there for one character though)—and, yeah, some of those other movies are romances with happy endings, but unabashed queer rom coms are still rare and I’m so happy to see a movie like this!!
(This isn’t meant to make anyone feel bad for not liking it or for feeling conflicted I just can’t stop thinking about it and need to get more of my feelings out and go do things that are not thinking about this movie lol)

One of the fan casts I’ve seen a lot is Hunter Schafer as Zelda. Thoughts?
image for reference because i had to google who hunter schafer was
i could back it? she'd definitely be able to pull off like. oot or twilight princess zelda (by looks alone i haven't seen her act) really depends on what they're doing story wise. but ultimately i don't particularly care what the actor looks like as long as they are believably link or zelda to me and i just. don't think the kind of "major hollywood actors" that people toss around when talking about it could really have that effect because they're too recognisable? if that makes any sense. also a bit of a tangent but i don't know if i WANT the zelda movie to adapt an existing game or a new one, though if i had ti guess it'll adapt something connected to botw/totk and that timeline if it is in any way tied to a game because nintendo is generally trying to move away from the 'traditional' zeldas so to speak
for context this is the hypothetical cast in the article i was reading earlier:
like i respect timothee but i think seeing him as link would just make me laugh. he's a perfectly good actor i just don't vibe with this. mr. holland. can we be serious here. respect the inclusion of dev patel and steven yeun but i think this would only work in a post-oot movie that was a tragic retelling of what happens to the hero of time / an exploration of the effect of All That. which won't happen but i think they could pull it off. we're very much dependent on how old link and zelda will be but if i HAD to pick from this list i'd say aramis knight (in ms marvel) because he's not as immediately recognisable and also he's around the right age for Link That Lives In My Head
moving to the zeldas. florence pugh are you KIDDING me. again i respect her i think ms pugh is very talented. but i don't think i'd want her to play zelda. ultimately it comes down to the fact that link and zelda are almost always teenagers and i want the movie to lean into that. especially because AGAIN this won't happen but i would like an examination of the impact of being declared Saviour Of The Entire World at approximately 12-17 years old. though i guess this could also work with an adult link and zelda but that would lean towards more of a drama than a Big Action Fantasy which is what this will be. zendaya again can we be serious i don't think this would work. personally i'd go w/ kathryn newton or stephanie hsu on this list tbh. or hunter schafer i think she'd be a pretty good choice on vibes alone but ive never seen her in anything (euphoria?)
the article also included these as cast possibilities for minor characters and when i tell you some of them made me choke on my water
i respect natasha lyonne as navi because that could be funny. the others are just. really. something
sorry this answer was super long and also not coherent i should inform you that i am running on approximately 2hrs sleep today. so. but if anyone wants to further discuss zelda PLEASE do i am going through a mini phase rn
also as a second tangent. my ideal zelda plots:
skyward sword zelda during her time on the surface because you could have some REALLY good conflict between her goddess side and her human side and the way she slowly realises she has to manipulate link
zelda becoming sheik in oot!!
my roommate pointed it out the other day but i haven't been able to stop thinking about it since: majora's mask stop motion movie in the style of gdt's pinocchio. directed of course by mr Fucked Up Fairytale del toro himself

Have you ever come across the book The Wizard of Willoughby Wallow? It was one of my favorites as a child.
I hadn't so I went to find it online! It's adorable I kind of want a copy for myself now. The language reads aloud so nicely, the art is charming and shows emotions well, it's silly but still has a good message... what a wonderful little book! Thanks for the rec, anon. For anyone else who's curious:
