Hiya!! for the s/i ask game!!!
🖋️ Pen, 🎆Fireworks, ☄️Comet, and 🎨 Palette!! For any canon you'd like!!
Hiiii!! Since I asked you about you, Jessie, and James, I'll be doing the same with myself and Guzma!! There will be a few spoilers tossed in here and there as I mainly go off of what happens in Ultra Sun as well as the anime.
This will be a bit of a long post::
🖋️ Pen: Say a fact about your lore or yourself/self-insert. It can be absolutely anything! Short or long-winded!
I wasn't actually raised in Alola! I moved there from Galar with the help of my mom once I turned 20. Hau introduced himself to me first and was the one who gifted me my Litten (now Torracat), who I named Lechuga ("lettuce" in Spanish), as a gift welcoming me to the region.
I was never too interested in going on my own Pokémon journey, even as a child, but Hau (and his mom, plus additional encouragement from Kahuna Hala) invited me to join him on his. He introduced me to Professor Kukui, who in turn introduced me to Lillie (and Nebby). While tagging along on his Pokémon journey, I also decided to help Lillie out with Nebby.
This all leads up to how I finally met Guzma. His grunts had told him about me helping Hau out with his journey...and maybe stretched the truth a bit here and there. Finding it completely stupid that some foreigner is helping out the kahuna's grandson and the professor's assistant, he just had to come down to Melemele to see what was actually going on. It was actually one morning when Hau and Lillie were out on Route 2 (Lillie was accompanying him so he would be out there alone) that I was getting malasadas in Hau'oli City with Lechuga.
While I waited outside the shop for my order to be ready, he sort of pulled me between the alleyway area between the malasada shop and the photo club (which is the start of a running bit where Guzma, and sometimes his grunts passing on a message for him, drags me away from any ongoing conversation or activity) to "talk". He mainly asked more questions and didn't give me much time to answer most of them.
🎆Fireworks: Do you/your self-insert have any powers or abilities? If so, what are they, and how do they manifest?
No, not really? Unless you count using Z-Moves, which I don't really like all that much considering that I don't really battle often enough to use it. Kahuna Hala gave me the bracelet needed to use Z-Crystals, though it was Kiawe that gave me a Firium Z following an incident before Hau was supposed to complete his trial that he had me help with.
☄️Comet: What was a moment where you/your self-insert really shined? This can be a badass moment, a moment where you felt important to the overall lore, or just a really cool and important moment!
When Lusamine, Lillie's mother tries getting close to her again. I could see that Lillie was uncomfortable with it and was trying to set boundaries that her mother was ignoring. It was when she tried taking Nebby away from her that I stepped in.
It reminded me a lot of my childhood (which ultimately led to me moving from Galar to Alola), and I wanted Lillie to know that when I said I promised to keep her and Hau safe, that I meant it.
Lusamine initially saw me standing up for her daughter as disrespect, but after some time, she grew to realize that I only ever had Lillie's best interests in mind. She eventually thanked me for looking after Lillie, and the two of us do establish a somewhat close bond similar to mother-daughter.
🌈Rainbow: What was the happiest moment in your lore for you/your self-insert? Who all shared that happiness with you in canon?
I think it would have to be when Lechuga evolved into Torracat (and again in the future when he eventually evolves into Incineroar). I was never interested in going on the whole Pokémon journey growing up. My Scorbunny I had back in Galar was given to a family member without my consent when my dad realized that I didn't plan on joining my friends on their journeys. I never got to see them evolve and missed out on that specific achievement.
So, while I didn't plan on going on a journey in Alola, I would still train Lechuga when I could. It was in a random field along Route 2 that he evolved into Torracat. Hau and Lillie were with me, and we collectively booked it for Kukui's place to show him. This was also a huge achievement because Lechuga, in particular, was considered smaller than other Littens. Kukui believed that even with me training him, it would take a longer time for him to be able to evolve.

big brother
Ash needs some time to figure the whole "big brother" thing out.
fandom: pokemon (anime) rating: g relationship(s): ash & lei, ash & brock word count: 13k read it here
Ash first meets Lei through photos and video calls. It’s easy to see how fond of him Kukui and Burnet are; Ash finds the experience oddly reminiscent of the first time he had a Pokémon transported to Professor Oak’s lab and called to check in on it.
He can’t exactly tell if Lei is aware of him or not. When he babbles at the camera, Burnet admits it may be more out of interest in the device itself than for Ash on the other side of it. He finds it funny in the moment, but when he recalls it later, he wonders if he should have. Even if Lei was talking at him, how long will he remember, anyway? He briefly considers asking Goh, then figures there’s not really anything to ask; Goh may know a lot about Pokémon, but he’s even less likely than Ash to understand how a human baby’s brain works.
Besides, he’s not sure yet if he even wants to broach the subject with Goh. It’s not as if he’s keeping anything secret from anyone, but he sometimes gets the feeling that his new friends are made uneasy by reminders of his adventures before them. Like they forget how much he has already seen and done—which is all right with him, really, because he doesn’t like that awestruck expression on their faces as much as he once thought he would.
Their trip to Alola is a long time coming, though, and Goh is thankfully more fixated on what new Pokémon he can catch than on whatever Ash has already left behind there. Ash probably should have anticipated that Kiawe and Goh would bump heads, but he has to admit that he’s been thinking more about the professors than about his old classmates since they arrived at the airport. And, anyway, it turns out fine—they get along great in the end, which is really the best Ash could’ve asked for.
But it’s not the surprise party they all planned for him, or getting separated from Goh, or even Kiawe’s challenge that sticks with Ash when they at last settle down for the night. It’s what Burnet said to him at the house before all that, holding Lei out in front of him for the first time—properly:
Big brother.

Little thing idk
Alright so, sorry for not posting for like a long time, I was taking a break, but two things, i'm working on a smut rn that someone requested so that should be done soon (its hxh), and also I'm going to be writing for pokemon now because i may or may not have gotten hyperfixated on it. I can't write for every single character as I have not played every game fully. I've played swsh, usum, regular sun and moon, some of legends: arceus, quite a bit of lets go, and xy, oras, a very small amount of soul silver (look i'm trying i'm just playing too many games at once rn) I also have seen a bit of the animes so I'll put some stuff for that too. Anyway I'm gonna make a list of characters I'll write for because 1 I'm bored and 2 it might be helpful. Even with this list you can still request any character, but i might not do it, or will respond saying that i don't write that character or that i just don't know the character.
swsh:
Hop, Leon, RAIHAN, BEDE, Marnie, Sonia, Milo, Kabu, Bea, Gordy, PIERS (I will be hesitant to do anything romantic for female characters as i'm probably gay, but if its intriguing I'll do it. I also have to replay the game so I can depict the characters as best as I can so it might take a little while to start any requests for a few of the characters. I also will not do any smut for female characters or children)
Sun and moon/USUM
ILIMAAA, Acerola (only platonic as of now because idk her age) Hau, kukui, Lillie, GLADIONNN, guzma, Kiawe, lana, Lillie, Lusamine, Mallow, Mina, molayne, Nanu, Olivia, Plumeria, professor burnet. Sophacles, (again no smut for children, maybe romance as I'm in most of their age ranges but you'll be blocked if I see an adult interacting with the post as it obviously is weird. Also might replay late game for some of the characters.
Legends: Arceus
Cyllene (hesitantly idk why I just don't know how to capture her personality), Adaman, Mai, Irida, Volo (i'm not very far alright, not accepting many requests for this because I don't know much about the characters)
Pokemon let's go! (I'm not very far so there are few characters as of now)
Brock, JAMES, JESSIE, lorelei (hesitantly I don't know too much about her, Lt. Surge, Misty,
XY
Clemont, Dexio and Sina (hesitantly), Grant, Korrina, maybe (just maybe) Lysandre, Professor Sycamore, Shauna, Tierno, Trevor, Viola, Diantha (maybe), Valerie, olympia (hesitant on some gym leaders as it's been a while
ORAS
(It's also been a while for this one so keep that in mind please) Steven Stone, lisia, Brawly, Flannery, Roxanne, Winona (maybe i would have to replay the game)
The animes + literally anyone else I haven't listed ig
Ash, Bonnie (platonic ONLY) Goh, Nurse joy..?, Officer Jenny..?, May, Serena
Alright, remember when requesting that you can request anyone, these are just the ones I know I'll do! Don't be shy (even though I sure am)! (this isn't edited so yeah)

Pokemon English Voice Compare/Rank, Professors
In which I rank the English dub voice actors of Pokemon characters from strongest to weakest, and sometimes throw in my 2 cents of who I think would be solid casting choices. This one is for professors.
PROFESSOR OAK: 1. Stan Hart - Original voice of Professor Oak in the main anime. Stan provided Oak with this Frank Morgan-esque voice that after only a little while of hearing it is burned into your brain as THE voice of Professor Oak. It was as perfectly fitting a voice for the character as you could ask for, and Stan Hart’s still got it down so well that he could very well play a good Professor Oak in live action too! 2. Joe J. Thomas - Voice of Professor Oak in Pokemon Masters. Let it be said now that no other VA for Oak could feel as right for the part as Stan Hart did, but Joe’s firm, eccentric, very Tom Kenny sounding voice for him in this game is probably the next best that we could get.
3. Mick Wingert - Voice of Professor Oak in the main anime taking over from James Carter Cathcart, but thus far only for two episodes at the very end of Pokemon Journeys. Boy do I ever wish Mick had been available for Oak sooner, as him doing a slightly deeper take on his Heimerdinger voice for the old professor is infinitely better than Cathcart’s beyond grating portrayal. More of him in later stuff please? 4. Kyle Hebert - Voice of Professor Oak in Pokemon Origins. This is such solid casting, as Kyle could pull off a decent Professor Oak (something closer to his Pryce voice shows that). But for whatever reason, what he ended up going with sounds incredibly boring, not old enough, and just not quite fitting. What a disappointment! 5. Keith Silverstein - Voice of Professor Oak in Pokemon Evolutions. I’ll take Kyle Hebert’s Oak over this one, though! Something about Keith’s very distinctly low and raspy voice coming out of Oak’s mouth just feels wrong. He sounds like an old mad scientist like Charon! 6. Ben Diskin - Voice of Professor Oak in the Two Professors cross-promotion for Let’s Go, Pikachu and Eevee! and Pokemon Go! OK, at least Keith sounded somewhat like an old man! Ben is woefully miscast here, sounding like a nasally, dweeby older Nigel Uno. 7. James Carter Cathcart - Voice of Professor Oak in the main anime taking over from Stan Hart, and how sad is it that the worst Oak took over from the best Oak? At first he sounded alright, and having the same VA as Gary voicing him actually made sense. But by late into Diamond & Pearl, he began to sound extremely forced, whiny, and unbearably grating to listen to, and he only kept getting worse! By Black & White, Stan Hart was available again. We really needed him back as Oak, but TPCI stupidly didn’t take that opportunity.
PROFESSOR SYCAMORE: 1. Jake Paque - Voice of Professor Sycamore in the main anime. Smooth, handsome, elegant but definitely masculine. He does it all. 2. Austin Lee Matthews - Voice of Professor Sycamore in Pokemon Evolutions. A very bit part, but he puts in a good effort all the same. 3. Ben Lepley - Voice of Professor Sycamore in Pokemon Masters EX. I can’t pinpoint exactly what it is about this performance that bothers me, but there’s this effete tone to it and it just bugs the crap out of me ‘cause we know Ben could’ve done better at making the character sound more dapper and gentlemanly like he should sound.
PROFESSOR KUKUI: 1. Alejandro Saab - Voice of Professor Kukui in Pokemon Masters EX. He embodies the part perfectly, even making a light distinction between his normal Kukui voice and his Masked Royal voice. 2. Abe Goldfarm - Voice of Professor Kukui in the main anime. God, this vocal performance was as flat and painfully generic as it gets. Even in Journeys when he finally put some effort into the acting, it was far too late to fix the unfitting voice that he’s stuck with.
PROFESSOR SONIA: 1. Morgan Laurre Garrett - Voice of Sonia in Pokemon Masters EX. The tone, the accent, the line delivery, it’s all exactly what’s needed. 2. Allegra Clark - Voice of Sonia in Pokemon: Twilight Wings. Despite the lack of an accent, Allegra does great at doing something distinct from her Cynthia voice and making Sonia sound age appropriate and like the precious nerd that she is. 3. Britanny Cox - Voice of Sonia in the main anime. She does alright in Sonia’s more low-key and serious moments, but her regular voice for her just doesn’t fit very well. She sounds like a flighty teenage girl, which might suit Lisia but not Sonia! FANCAST OPTION - Abby Trott. Morgan Laurre’s voice for Sonia sounds eerily like a voice that Abby could do, accent and everything!

Is Ash Ketchum Still An Amateur?
With Ash’s departure from the anime and the events that led up to it, I figured this was a good time to revisit a prior post I wrote about him. Actually, scratch that: Make it TWO posts I wrote, lol! Needless to say this will be spoiler heavy, so skip any and all of these posts if you aren’t ready for those.
So the first main event is Ash winning the Alola league. Which I was sort of stunned by considering that this anime iteration of Ash seemed... Less focused than the X/Y Ash? “Sort of” being the key words here because remember both in the games and the anime, the league was not formed yet. So Alola was sort of like a lower-competition region. Therefor, it sort of makes sense that Ash would win it because he has had the most competitive experience, lol! He was whooped by the Masked Royal/Professor Kukui early on, but that could be attested to him always ditching his entire party each new region to only leave with Pikachu. Why I was up in the air about whether he’d win this or not is because he has always lost the leagues except for the minor leagues and the aforementioned odd lack of focus. I guess Kkkui’s classes did a lot for him though because he won it AND beat Kukui along with a surprise Tapu Koko at the same time. Why I say that instead of chalking it up to the aforementioned competitive experience is because Kukui is super competitive. So of all the people in Alola, Kukui was the equivalent of an Elite 4 or champion. Though I still wasn’t entirely sure because again remember that there was no league prior to Kukui proposing it. Only trials. Not that the Kahunas and totem Pokemon weren’t canonically formidable of course. But also remember how many have successfully went through those trials.
His success continued after that via winning the world championship. So when I said Kukui’s teachings did a lot for him, I REALLY meant it. XD Prior to this he was basically at a total standstill as he’d always beat the gyms (Well... Some gym wins were.... Ummm... Dubious to say the least, lol! Especially in Kanto.) but come up short in the league. Heck, whenever he’d encounter someone from a region’s Elite-some-number (I swear it’s not 4 in some regions, lol!) and challenge them, he gets vaporized. So since he ditched his team again and Pikachu’s level (If that’s truly a thing in the anime) seems to fluctuate somehow, something seemed quite odd about him holding his own against champions in the World Cup. Of course he had that slump of lost confidence after the loss against Bea. But there’s a big difference between lost confidence and being totally outclassed like before. So after getting his mojo back he kept winning until he became the best there ever was! (I couldn’t resist.) Well........ Sort of. There have been a bunch of interesting encounters/showings through the years that seemed to drop off the planet. Like at the base level, what happened to all the other league winners? Tobias and his legendary team for instance vaporized Ash and everyone in his path. Did he and the rest of the past league champions just retire or something? lol! My guess is the writers either nearly forgot they existed or are implying that they were still mere kibble compared to the tippy toppers in the World Coronation. But my point is that it’s hard to say he’s the very best by a single tournament. Well... That is unless you think about what Masamitsu Hidaka said.
Which beings me to Ash’s final journey. He said that if Ash became a master, the anime would end. Well, that appears to be the case. So is he the best there ever was now? I... Guess he at least lost his amateur status for sure, lol! But at the same time, with how it ended, the title of “Pokemon Master” is still as elusive as ever. Not necessarily because there aren’t good trainers, but because they intentionally kept the title of Pokemon Master vague. So I was under the impression that there would be no defined masters because there’s no definition for it. But how it ended did give a bit more insight into the title and I really like “how” they did this. Ash had a flashback about something Gary asked him. He asked Ash what “Pokemon Master” meant to him. That phrase alone could be interpreted a lot of ways, hence why it’s kept intentionally vague. But Ash in that moment defined it for “himself”: To befriend the world’s Pokemon. It didn’t matter how many battles were won or lost, it was more so the friends made along the way. Cliche maybe, but it does encompass a lot of things that players experience with the games. We made friends with others  through playing the games and the Pokemon themselves are very interesting critters. You can battle with them, but also play with them as pets. But lets not forget the many characters of the day across the anime who were helped and befriended along the way. So there indeed was a lot of friendship to be had throughout.
Overall, the last episodes were sort of like a swan song to wrap things up and bring in the feels as characters like Brock and Misty were brought back and was rotating his older Pokemon in and out to boot. Pidgeot even reunited with Ash (Not Butterfree though... Bye Bye indeed...). Plus Team Rocket... Err... Jessie James and Meowth version, seemed to have a falling out, but got back together to continue to follow him on their likely never ending quest to finally capture the twerp’s Pikachu. Except this time... We won’t be following it. The end of Ash also will probably cut off all ties to prior characters (more on that in a bit). Mind you I wouldn’t be surprised if they reappear in the upcoming series on occasion. But they wont be mains anymore.
However... Is it bad if I said I’d miss Team Rocket more than Ash? XD!!! I mean... I don’t want to be the one to ruin stuff for others since this is a pretty emotional turning point for the series. But out of all the main characters in recent years, they (in my opinion) were the most consistently entertaining and had a ton of growth themselves. Their mail goal was always to capture Pikachu, but they have branched off and found a ton of success in different things which were incredibly entertaining in itself from Jessie’s success in contest to their many booming food businesses. Their goal of course was often still to get enough funds to build something to get Pikachu, yet they often enjoyed their side pursuits so much that they forgot about Pikachu for a time.
So maybe this is a bad thing to say and I’m peeing in people’s cereal while they are all emotional over Ash, but... Maybe my outlook on Ash was more so that he wore out his welcome? lol! But can you blame me? It was like everyone around him was growing more and stole the show, yet still pivoted around Ash. If Ash himself was growing like he was earlier in the series, it was preposterously hard to tell as he would often revert/lose skill/knowledge episodes later. All other traveling companion main characters he was with got the boot starting with Misty (who too had a lot of growth along the way) all the way up to Goh. Well... I guess Pikachu never got the boot and he was technically a traveling companion and main character. But the rest of his Pokemon sure did. At least for the most part because remember there were those couple of rotates back in through the years.
However... Admittedly I’m getting some really mixed emotions myself. To see Ash’s journey come to an end (Well... That he is going on it without us) is giving me a strange feeling of sadness. Yet, I have enjoyed spinoffs such as Pokemon Origins far more than the main series because they were able to show more than what revolved around Ash. So it’s like... My mind knows there’s better stuff, but my heart feels like there is something missing. Like losing someone. It’s very strange as maybe a year or two ago I was thinking to myself that the anime would be better off without Ash at this point given how successful the spinoffs have been and how much I liked them. So how could I be getting feels for the little goober?
Well, I was thinking about that too and I guess there’s just something weird about the idea of Ash “NOT” being in the anime. Sort of like how I found it weird (and sad) when Misty got cut. Brock too, although admittedly while he was still a traveling companion for a few more regions, they kind of did him dirty in Sinnoh by making him more “background main character”(If that’s actually a term, lol!). So when he fully got cut, I didn’t get the same feels as I did for Misty. Which made me wonder if I would’ve looked back on Misty as fondly as I do if she got the same treatment as Brock and if I would’ve gotten the feels for Brock if he was cut when Misty was. So I wonder if part of it too is that “because” Ash was showing growth I was getting fond of him again. Not to mention that Pidgeot returning but not seeing much of a followup to that sort of leaves me wondering what growth it had. But it’s looking like that from here on out, it’ll be all fan fiction interpretation unless he shows up again (My bet is he and other staples will). Thus I guess another reason for getting the feels is because they imply he’s going on another journey with a buddy he said he’d come back for way back after finishing up the Orange Islands but didn’t (I was always peeved about that) and we’ll never see it now that they finally reunited. Of course there’s not actually anything there because no soup anime for him means there’s not really a story that is lost since it is intentionally never made. It is more so done just to say that he will be going on a journey once again like always and he’ll be fine. Which isn’t a bad sendoff really considering that is what he always does. But I mean that it’s the whole “idea” of him being on a journey we will no longer see. Though I guess realistically every other character in the Anime also shares that.
Though maybe the biggest symbolic takeaway from the whole thing (intentional or not) is that even if Ash inspired viewers to do stuff, us players have already been on our own journeys in more ways than one. Technically none of the main series games has Ash as the playable character. Ash is a character loosely based off of Red from gen 1. Heck, even Yellow wasn’t Ash’s journey, it was still Red’s. Although Yellow had a bunch of anime inclusions or adaptations so it was closer to Red following a similar path Ash took than anything. Though given that the “player character” is controlled by “you”, it’s hard to say if the player characters are more a symbol of you in the game. They are more likely supposed to be interpreted as a mix of both. But what I mean about the “more ways than one” part is that remember Ash started his journey 26 years ago. Not 26 days, not 26 months, 26 YEARS! Us trainers watching him through the years have had a TON of journeys of our own in real life without him already and will continue to have many more to come. People who grew up with Pokemon are even having kids of their own that are playing Pokemon now.
Although I could just be overthinking everything given this is such a big moment for the anime and as I said, I’ve been sort of emotional over this, lol! So maybe I’ll make a followup on this later as I continue to take this all in as perhaps my thoughts and opinions will change. Your thoughts?
Thanks for reading and have a good one!

Note
the pokemon company be like *thinly-veiled misogyny*
To be honest, the sexism isn’t even really thinly-veiled if you think about it. Like off the top of my head:
— Professor Juniper was our first female professor, and it took until Gen V to get her. But whereas all the other professors got to stand on their own without needing anyone else, Professor Juniper had to have her father come in to provide answers to various plot occurrences that she didn’t know. IIRC, she also inherited her practice from him, which was also something that the male professors before and after didn’t have to contend with. It’s a miracle that this was averted with Professors Magnolia and Sonia in Gen VIII, both of whom are women.
— Speaking of female professors being screwed over, in Gen VII we’re introduced to Professor Burnet, whose practice specifically focuses on ultra wormholes and disturbances in space-time (which makes sense since she was previously working on the Dream Radar). Given how much of the plot concerns ultra wormholes, you would think that she would be the main professor of the story, or at least play a big part. But you’re wrong! Instead she’s only in one mandatory scene, and then is basically never heard from again. Meanwhile, Kukui shows up all the goddamn time even though his goal (to create a League) is literally meaningless in the scope of the overall plot. (And even that could have been cool if it had delved into the socio-political ramifications of what overthrowing Alola’s current system of government for another one would mean, but now is not the time to get into the failings of Gen VII’s plot. I’ve gone through that enough times.)
— Back to Gen V for a second, we’re also given two rivals in the first of the Unova games: Bianca and Cheren. While Cheren, the male rival, is taken seriously and has it talked up over and over how great of a battler he is, Bianca has her Munna stolen from her halfway through the story and spends the rest of the game talking down on herself and ultimately deciding that her father was right and she really is not cut out to be a Pokémon Trainer. Keep in mind that Bianca was the first mandatory female rival in the games, because while May could be a rival in Gen III if you played as Brendan, if you chose to play as her, both rivals (Brendan and Wally) were male. So on that note, our rivals so far look like:
Gen I: Blue Oak (male)
Gen II: Silver (male)
Gen III: Wally (male), optional May (female), optional Brendan (male)
Gen IV: Barry (male)
Gen V: Cheren (male), Bianca (female), Hugh (male)
Gen VI: Shauna (female), Tierno (male), Trevor (male), optional Serena (female), optional Calem (male)
Gen VII: Hau (male), Gladion (male)
Gen: Hop (male), Bede (male), Marnie (female)
So, let’s see. We only have two mandatory female rivals (Bianca and Marnie), as well as two optional female rivals (May and Serena). Meanwhile, we have twelve mandatory male rivals, as well as two optional male rivals (Brendan and Calem). To cap this off, while the mandatory male rivals (outside of the useless Kalos ones) are always treated as strong, competent battlers who have important roles in the story, our two mandatory female rivals, well . . .
Bianca: See above
Marnie: Gets battled a whole grand total of two times and has basically zero impact on the plot despite the fact that her brother is the only Gym Leader who didn’t give into Rose’s vision for how Galar should operate and use Dynamax evolution
And even when it comes to the optional ones, since Brendan is treated as the default MC by TPCi, that means May is the one who gives up training to go be a professor like her dad. (Which is the exact thing they basically did to Bianca in Gen V, except she studies under Juniper instead.) Serena at least keeps battling if she’s the rival, but jeez.
So to say there’s definite gender inequality where the rivals are concerned is a bit of an understatement.
— Moving away from the rivals, let’s talk about villains! We didn’t get a female villain until Gen VII with Lusamine, and even then she wasn’t allowed to stay a villain because I guess Game Freak doesn’t want to accept the fact that women can be evil, too. Moreover, all of Lusamine’s achievements come from the men in her life, and all of her motivations revolve around her husband. To spell it out:
- She inherited the Aether Foundation from her grandfather / father, without having founded it herself like we’re at first led to believe.
- Her husband Mohn was the one who discovered how the ultra wormholes work, not her. IIRC, he was also the primary researcher behind Type: Null’s creation.
- The reason why she does what she does is because she’s looking for her missing husband Mohn, with an added dash of “women just go crazy (and abuse their children) without their husbands!!1!!!” thrown in for flavor.
Compare this to Giovanni, Maxie, Archie, Cyrus, Ghetsis, Colress, Lysandre, and now Chairman Rose, all of whom formed their own organizations (Giovanni inheriting his from his mother is anime only and does not pertain to the games at all) and had their own goals and desires, versus relying on someone else for those goals and desires. And as if Lusamine not being allowed to form her own organization and have her own goals for her own sake wasn’t bad enough, they then had to go and make it even worse in USUM by turning her into a damsel in distress in the Rainbow Rocket plot, depicting her as not only less capable as the male villains, but also less capable than her male subordinate. Gag me.
— On that note, Oleana is sorely underappreciated by basically everyone except the Twilight Wings writers considering she’s the only reason anything Rose did got done, yet got none of the credit for herself. Damn shame.
— Stepping away from the games for a moment, Generations was a hot mess in terms of sexism. First of all, they only ever used the male MCs, pretending that the female ones didn’t exist at all, even in cases where the female MCs are vastly more popular (e.g. May, Dawn, Hilda). Second, most of the episodes focused on male characters from the series, and the ones that didn’t were either there so they could disrespect the best character in the series by not giving her the episode she deserved (Zinnia), or were told from the point of view of a male character despite that it was supposed to be a female character’s story (Emma). And lastly, there was whatever the fuck that mess with Cheryl was. It was animated in a way that made it look like an anime not suitable for anyone under the age of eighteen. Like honestly, what the hell.
— Leaf has been consistently and constantly disrespected all over the franchise. Despite there allegedly being four trainers who left from Pallet Town (counting Ash) in the anime, Leaf has never been seen or mentioned even once throughout the two decades that anime has been running. They had an opportunity to show her in at least a cameo form in the 20th anniversary movie, but they chose not to do that either, adding yet another disappointment from that movie to the list. She had no appearances in Origins, no appearances in Generations, they didn’t do what they should have done in HGSS by making her the rival atop Mt Silver if you chose to play as Lyra, she wasn’t a skin for Pokémon Trainer in Super Smash Bros. until Ultimate, I’m pretty sure they never made an Amiibo for her either, they replaced her with her Special counterpart in LGPE and her characterization absolutely bonkers to boot, and back to Masters, SS Leaf doesn’t have the Main Character designation for the theme skills that SS Red has, and is also routinely left out of any story bits that feature Red or Blue. It’s a miracle she was even included in the Battling Legends event or whatever it was. As far as TPCi seems to be considered, Kanto only has one main character and that’s Red.
— Oh and speaking of Iris, they gave her the Gym Leader theme designation instead of the Champion designation, instead choosing to act like Alder is Unova’s only Champion when he, no offense, didn’t really fucking do anything in Gen V. :’) We hate to see it.
— In the current run of the anime, the two boys (Ash and Gou) have gotten to go around and have adventures for ~50 episodes while the girl (Koharu) has had to stay home and go to school. You can argue, “She wanted that!” all you want, but you have to remember that she only wants what the writers tell her to want, and the writers said the boys get to have adventures while the girls stay home. She finally has an Eevee and will presumably go on adventures now, but we’ll have to wait and see. And don’t get me wrong, I like Journeys and I love Gou as a character, but it is absolutely a Choice to not have a female lead present in the adventures at all and it’s one that the writers deliberately made for whatever reason.
— On that note, let’s look at Ash’s female companions, shall we?
Misty: A Gym Leader who has a vague goal (water pokémon master) and is largely out of focus during her run as a primary companion. She had no rivals or in-series (as in, concrete ones she could accomplish before leaving the main cast) goals of her own.
May: A coordinator. Does have rivals and has a story, which is nice, but battling isn’t her focus.
Dawn: Another coordinator. Even more focus than May (she was written as a deuteragonist), but also not primarily focused on battling.
Iris: A battler (her Gym Leader / Champion Status is written out) who actually does get decent focus and a cool arc surrounding her connection to dragons.
Serena: A performer, which is a girls-only career path that doesn’t have battling in it at all, unlike contests. Does have a goal, but much of her character is written around her crush for Ash and at the end of the series she says that he is her goal.
Lillie, Lana, Mallow: Honestly I didn’t watch enough of SM to have an opinion on how these three were handled outside of hating how Lusamine didn’t get to be a villain in the anime either.
Koharu: See above, she’s only just now getting to be involved with things.
Now, don’t get me wrong: There’s nothing wrong with being a coordinator (and we do see male coordinators too, such as Drew and Harley), and I think that both May and Dawn are wonderful characters. But it does make me feel some kind of way that the female characters were often given the “girly” sidequest while the male main character got to go for the Gym badges, especially since AG and DP went on for a good chunk of years. None of the ladies so far have been treated as badly as Serena was (that performer stuff is just nasty, I’m not sorry), but again, it’s a deliberate choice and something to think about, especially since I feel the only reason they didn’t go that route with Iris is because of her Gym Leader / Champion status in the games.
I could probably think of more examples of the casual sexism in the series if I thought about it, but this is just from the top of my head. As you can see, there is a lot. All of this being said, and I’m putting major emphasis on this since I don’t want anyone to get it twisted—
I love Pokémon with my entire heart, flaws and all. It has been my hyperfixation for 22 years and that is not going to change any time soon. So DO NOT even dare suggest that I hate Pokémon, or shouldn’t play it, or anything like that. I will be playing Pokémon on my deathbed and nothing and no one will stop me.
But that being said, I criticize because I care. Because I wish it would do better. Pokémon is for everyone. It’s for boys, girls, nonbinary folks, and people all over the gender spectrum. But the treatment of its female characters and the abundance of favoritism shown toward the male characters leaves a lot to be desired (though at least girls are at the table, whereas trans folk are relegated to background NPCs and nonbinary folk are nowhere to be seen :/). I think Pokémon can get better—Magnolia and Sonia felt like a proper apology for how Juniper in particular was shafted, not to mention Burnet—but it’s got a long way to go.
(And also, yes, you’ve understood this right. Twilight Wings is the only anime series to not fuck up at all when it comes to sexism. You go, Twilight Wings. Four for you, Twilight Wings.)

Random ask time! Care to name ten fics, any fandom, that you have or plan to reread? (Not necessarily your top ten because top ten is hard but ten that you genuinely enjoy.)
hi lynse i can’t believe you slightly switched the ask subject from what you were contemplating sending in dms. yes i do care to do this!!! fics follow
these are arranged in literally no order whatsoever except vaguely the order I remembered they existed and tragically they will mostly not be readable for you lynse on account of us sharing fandoms basically never. but in any case!!! let’s go!!!!
A Professor and a Student - LeDiz - Pokemon Anime (Alola) - multichap, complete - Professor Kukui’s pov outsider on Ash, through interstitial set during the first season of Alola anime. This fic is the fic that got me into pokeani in the first place, and I have reread it all the way through at least once and specific chapters genuinely so many times. it’s good! it’s got so many fun reveals! it’s even got a surprise plot! if someone is in pokeani fandom though there’s like a 95% chance they’ve already read it, so it’s kind of pointless to recommend
Broken Rules and Consequences - Redring 91 - Doctor Who (All Eras) - series, ongoing i think - This is one that i’m planning to reread rather than one i’ve already reread: I first read it back when i was originally into dw, in like 2013, and honestly lynse the timing was probably right for me to have recced it to you back then. in any case i have a friend who vouches for its continued quality, and it was straight-up the only dw fic i kept up with for several years after i first fell out of the dw fandom. it’s a really excellent exploration of all the times the doctor has met their past and future selves, and i highly recommend it. it’s also very long, so watch out!
An Unexpected Greeting - kimirice - Pokemon Anime (Alola) - threeshot, ongoing - it’s a fic in the “cynthia runs into ash in alola and dumbfounds his entire class” genre and it’s a good one. my favorite one. i reread it whenever i want to feel serotonin in my bones. serotonin does not go in bones. whatever, this fic is such a joy, it’s pretty short, please read it if you too want serotonin in your bones on account of revealssssss
Phone A Friend - TheBigCat - Doctor Who (Seventh Doctor Era / Gallifrey Audios Era) - oneshot - this is another “reread when i want serotonin in my bones” fic. it really is amazing just how much joy can be stored in a single 1K oneshot, it makes me so happy, that’s ace’s space dad........... wahhh the au - everything’s fine tag on this one really carries it right into my heart
dreamt you a kinder future - Sixteenthdays - Dream SMP - multichap, ongoing - my FRIENDS forcibly got me into the damn MINECRAFT RP. this is all you will see of it on this blog ever because i do have SOME dignity left but if you HAVE gotten bodily dragged into caring about the block men yourself please do enjoy this time travel fixit about pre-plot Dream getting dropped into post-Doomsday era canon and dealing with the fact that his future self is evil and ruined all his relationships. its very good i reread the ranboo chapter regularly
The Red Coast - Maldoror_Chant - One Piece - oneshot - genuinely hilarious pov outsider on post-skypiea straw hats via some idiot bounty hunters who think they‘re easy prey. it’s a lot of fun and it took me three entire rereads to catch the punchline, which i am still mad about. please read this fic i am shaking my fist at it
Though She Be But Little, She Is Fierce - Izzyaro - Pokemon Anime (Kalos Era) - multichap, abandoned(?) - a few years after the kalos crisis, Bonnie sets out on her own pokemon journey. told through the eyes of her very alarmed traveling companion, who so incredibly doesn’t know what to make of her. yes, it only has two chapters and hasnt updated in years. i do not care. the chapters stand alone as oneshots and this fic has done so much for me. its like 90% of the reason i write bonnie the way i do its such a joy
Keeping a Welcome - Gramarye (ao3 | ffn) - The Dark is Rising Sequence - oneshot - did you ever wonder, gee, zeph, why do you write so much loyalty content? and why is it all Like That? well, the answer is that i read this fic at a formative age and imprinted on it like a baby bird, and then subconsciously was shaped by it for the next decade. genuinely it is SO good. it’s so good guys. guys it’s so good im going to cry just thinking about it. o a t h s ,,,  wahhhhhhh gramarye is probably my favorite fic author ever i love their stuff SO much. so much. i am going to cry im telling you!!!!!! (also while I'm here I also recommend everything else theyve ever written, especially the Eirias Triad, which i have reread probably as many times as there are fingers in my house, and which is only not on an entry on this list on account of me wanting to keep it at one rec per author)
Nah - soomin - One Piece - oneshot - the straw hats have been stuck in a time loop of their entire lives for many, many years, and boy are they having a good time causing chaos. this is one of the only op time travels that i feel like accurately captures what would actually happen if luffy did a time travel, and i love it. they’re having so much! infinite retries for the best adventure ever!
Insomnia - tikitikirevenge - The Legend of Zelda (Majora’s Mask) - multichap, abandoned(?) - novelization of majora’s mask with a twist: instead of resetting the three day loop every time, link gets exactly 5 cycles, and the whole thing is a stable time loop. its true it hasnt updated since 2015, but it was my favorite zelda fic back in middle school and i still reread it every few years to confirm that it’s just as good as i remember: it somehow always is. and every time, i forget just how agonizing (complimentary) the link&tatl friendship slowburn is like dear lord does this author know how to write a slowly developing relationship hh i wish more people would read this fic it’s really just very good ok dont mind that its abandoned just before the snowpeak temple

Falling: Chapter 2
Pairing: Raihan x Reader
Falling in love is easy…
It’s falling out of love that’s the hard part.
As you try to run from old feelings you meet someone who is determined to bring the spark back into your eyes. Raihan isn’t sure what happened in the past and he doesn’t care. He’s got one shot to make you his and he’s going to take it.
First Chapter: Here
Tumblr media
London Bridge is Falling Down
You honestly can’t remember the last time that you had fun while you battled. Being a trainer then a champion was something you strove to do because you loved the thrill of battle. And yet, you can’t recall the last time it wasn’t something you forced yourself to do. The thrill and the excitement had long since vanished. It was one of the reasons you moved to Alola. They didn’t have a league and you could just focus on your pokemon and yourself. That was before Kukui…
You glance down at your phone as it rings for the 5th time that morning and ignore the call sending it straight to voicemail. The battle tower in Wyndom looms before you. You smile in excitement as you look over to Raihan before you rush in. He’s right behind you a moment later.
“You said you’re a fan… Who’s your favorite?”
“Havoc, your Garchomp.”
You smile as you put him in the front. A small crowd forms around the two of you. With a smirk, you enter the arena and proceed to demolish the tower. Perhaps it was unfair of you but it’s been a while since you were able to let loose. Your pokemon loved every encounter and preened with every victory. Havoc had way too much fun and seemed to thrill at the battles. Once you reach the top you feel yourself take a breath as you take the victory. With a sigh, you return to the bottom floor where Raihan and a huge crowd had formed. They are all silent as you send them a sweet smile and walk out the door. Raihan trailing along behind shocked.
“That was the coolest thing I’ve ever seen in my life…”
Your laugh is musical, “I’m sure there are far cooler things that you’ve seen.”
“No… That was it.”
You chuckle as you shake your head, “So what now?”
“Lunch?”
“Yeah! Beating a battle tower makes a girl hungry…”
“I’ll say…” He says as he takes you to a nearby seafood restaurant.
“You know this might be the best first date I’ve ever had…” you muse as you plop some dessert in your mouth.
“First date?!” he asks before choking on his drink.
“Yeah… I mean you want to get married we should probably start at the beginning…”
Raihan hides his face as he chuckles awkwardly, “I’m never living that down am I?”
“Of course not…”
“Don’t you have a boyfriend?”
“No… What makes you say that?”
“Well, there’s always that guy near you.” “Kukui?”
“No, not the professor, that really tall handsome guy… Kinda looks like an anime character…”
“...”
“There are all those rumors about the two of you…”
“OH! You mean Joker…”
“Joker?”
“Yeah! Joker, my Zoroark! He can cast illusions. I had an overzealous fan a few years ago and Joker cast an illusion to get him to back off. It’s kinda stuck, now he will cast illusions every once in a while just to mess with the media. He has fun doing it, and it helps to control the crazies.”
“That’s… your pokemon?”
“Yep!”
“And you just let him mess with the world?”
You just shrug, “It’s a harmless prank.”
“You aren’t afraid it’s going to….hurt your love life?”
“What love life? I’ve spent the last three years running a league and being its champion. Who has time to meet people when an entire region relies on you?”
“You sound like Lee…”
“It’s the way things are… If anyone told me what being a champion entailed then I would have passed… It’s no wonder Red disappears into the mountains so regularly.”
“You know Red?!
“We’ve battled a few times…”
“So were you serious about this being our first date, cause I think I’m in love…”
You throw your head back with a laugh, “I bet the girls love you.”
“What makes you say that?”
“Oh… cause you’re smooth… it’s too bad I’m immune to smooth.”
“Immune to smooth? What does that even mean?” he asks with a smirk as he leans forward and rests his hand on top of yours.
You lift your foot and brush it up his leg stopping when it reaches his inner thigh, you smirk as he gets very still and swallows. Your eyes are locked with his and you part your lips giving him a sultry look as you lean into him.
“What-” he begins.
You slip your foot from his thigh and take your napkin and wipe the corner of his mouth, “You have crumbs here.”
He leans back and turns away from you. You let out a sweet giggle as you lean casually back in your seat.
“You okay there dragon boy?”
“Dragon boy?”
“I’ll think of something better later.”
He lets out a scoff and you smirk as you hold his gaze, he looks away again and your smile widens.
“Can we go shopping? I need some new clothes… Everything I have isn’t warm enough.”
“Uhh sure, I’ll just get the bill…” he practically leaps from the table.
“Sweet I’ll meet you outside.”
Flurstering Raihan was more fun than you had had in a long time. After being expected to be so busy and so serious all the time, it was nice to let loose a little. Did you probably take it too far? Maybe… You doubt he was complaining though. You know how men like Raihan work. He’s a ladies man and he likes to fluster the women in his presence. You were only playing along, it’s not your fault that you’re a better player than he is.
“You ready?” Raihan asks as he comes up behind you and murmurs in your ear.
You glance over your shoulder in boredom before you turn to face him fully, “Of course.”
“Nothing?”
“Nope.”
“I’ll get you back before the day is over.”
“Of course you will Dragon Boy…”
He sends you a smile, his sharp canine showing.
The two of you head down the much busier streets. Raihan gets quite a bit of attention from pretty much everyone he passes. He loves it, you can tell from the way that he waves or smirks a the girls he passes. He gives little boys autographs and stops to talk to trainers that approach him. You mostly stay in the background content to be left alone. You’re not opposed to fan service, it’s just annoying that all you want to do is go shopping and the world won’t let you.
You finally make it to the boutique and you heave a sigh as walk in away from the prying eyes of the public.
“Welcome!”
“Oh thank Arceus!” you exclaim.
The girl behind the counter looks confused but you just send a smile and head off to find something you like. After you have gathered several outfits you head to the fitting room.
“What do you think about this one?” you ask as you open the curtain.
Raihan looks stunned when you walk out wearing a pair of tight black jeans, a cami with a sweetheart neckline and a red jacket.
“Looks good…” he says after he got his bearings back.
“Hmm…” you hum before you go to try on another outfit.
The next one is a cobalt blue form-fitting dress that had the man going wild.
“That’s a good one...too…” he says as he looks away.
“One more!”
You pop out wearing a black skirt with a deep red cami and a black blazer.
“Everything looks great on you, you know that!”
“Aww thanks, Raihan!” you say a smile and a wink. The man thought his heart was going to come out of his chest.
**~**~**~**~**~**
“Come on… I have a surprise for you,” Raihan says after he had all your purchases sent back to the inn you’re staying at.
“Oh? Is it our wedding?”
“Could be… You ready to lock it down?” he asks as he pulls you along behind him.
“I can do better…” you tease.
“Than me? No way!”
“Speak for yourself Dragon Boy!”
“What’s with the boy shit?  You know I’m a man right?”
“Oh? Have I offended the great and terrible Raihan?”
“Dragon Boy makes me sound like some wannabe… You’re going to have to come up with something better if you’re going to be my wife.”
“I’ll get on that…”
Raihan stops in front of the sky wheel and you gaze up at it in wonder.
“Ready?” he asks as he glances back at you.
You nod and the two of you make your way onto the sky wheel just as the sun starts to set.
“You know… this would be the perfect place to get married…” you say as you glance over to him a smirk on your face.
He sends you a boyish smile as he moves your hair from your face, tucking it behind your ear, “Is that what you want?” he whispers as he draws his thumb down your cheek then over your jawline.
“Yes…” you breathe out, “Call Leon…”
Raihan pulls back and laughs and you do, you lean against him in hysterics.
“You would marry Leon over me? It would take 3 hours for him to get here from that light pole,” he says indicating a light on the bridge.
“Probably not… He seems nice but he’s not my type…”
“Oh? Who is your type?” he asks looking genuinely interested.
You look away from Raihan and back over the city. You currently had fifteen missed calls from the man you fell in love with.
You let out a light scoff, “That doesn’t matter because I don’t have time for such things anyway.”
Raihan frowns, “Doesn’t mean you don’t have a type… Plus you deserve someone to take care of you too.”
You glance over at him, “Someone to take care of me? Who would want to do that?” You can’t keep the bitterness from your voice and you clamp your mouth feeling the playful mood die.
He frowns at your question, “Why wouldn’t someone who loved you not want to do that?”
Your gaze is guarded as you hold his stare, “Hmm… I suppose that’s the question isn’t it?”
Raihan moves closer to you and puts his arm around you pulling you against his much larger frame. You’re surprised when you feel a sense of protection coming from him. He rests his chin on the top of your head and you feel yourself stiffen at the contact.
“Raihan what-”
“Shh… just… I don’t know what happened to you to make you think no one wants you but that’s bullshit. You’ve always been so strong, but has anyone ever stopped long enough to allow you to breathe? It must be hard having to be strong for everyone all the time.”
“How do you…”
“Leon puts on a brave face, but he gets so tired sometimes. When he gets a day off all he wants to do is sleep. I can’t remember a time when he wasn’t running around having to do Rose’s bidding or taking care of a catastrophe or making public appearances. Even just going out for a beer is an event where people won’t leave us alone. You’ve been doing for 3 years what Leon has done for a few months. I know you’re tired…”
You just nod unsure of why you’re opening up to a man you just met, “I am...I’m exhausted.”
“Don’t worry… I’m going to find a way for you to get your spark back…”
“My spark?”
“Yeah! You didn’t become my favorite trainer because of that cute butt of yours… even if it did help…” he says as he scratches his cheek looking innocently up at the ceiling.
“So you’re a butt guy?”
He sends you a wolfish grin in reply.
“Hmm… interesting…”
“Why is that interesting?”
“Just is…”
“Why do I feel like I’m being judged right now?”
“Because you are.”
“What does that mean?!”
“Nothing…” you say innocently.
Raihan pouts as he just pulls you closer to him, “Nothing my ass…”
“I mean you have a nice ass too… but not as nice as Leon’s.”
“Did you just say Leon has a better ass than me?!”
“Yes?”
“I’m hurt! He can beat me in battle and deny me the championship, but he can’t have a better ass than me!”
You laugh as you wrap your arms around his waist and rest yourself a little farther against him snuggling against him, “You forgot that I’m going to marry him too.”
“That’s it! Get off of me you can’t use me for my body while insulting me.”
You giggle as you go to pull away.
“Damn girl I was kidding! Come back!”
You laugh even louder as he possessively pulls you back against him. He sends you a devious smile as he pulls you into his lap and rests his chin back on your head.
“Someone is a little possessive…”
“Well… I’ve had my eye on you for years… what makes you think I’m okay with letting you go now?”
“Years?”
“Uhh… well…”
“You turn to look at him, “You’ve been my fan for years??”
He looks away unable to meet your eye, “Yeah… Ever since…”
“Ever since….?”
“Ever since you destroyed everyone in the Unova League…”
“That was years ago…”
“Yeah well… I like your battle style…”
“Umm hmm…” you say with a smirk.
“What does that little ‘umm hmm’ mean?” he asks defensively.
“Nothing…”
“Damn woman… You’re going to be the death of me…”
“Nope, I’m going to be the death of Leon… He’s my future husband…”
“Damn… that’s cold.”

⏪ P J’s PokéAni Rewind 2019
Tumblr media
Hello, yes I’m still alive for those wondering or care at all :] Just been taking an indefinite leave from all my social media accounts (though you can still see me on Discord: PokémonJesus#2495) since mid-November going through some personal self-discovery journey...nobody misses me anyways. I’ll address that maybe in a future post, but let’s not make this about me...because RIGHT NOW it is time for my 4th annual year-end (and favorite) Tumblr tradition! 2019 was a stressful year for me personally (as you can tell I’ve been on and off  here), and I appreciate all of the friends I’ve made within this fandom who’ve stuck with me through it. It was also the year of the successful launch of my new PokéAni exclusive side-blog @pokeaniepisodes where I would do my weekly episode blogging/screen-caps/GIFs for the #pokeani tag. Within the span of 10 months, I would gain over 1,000 followers! Thank you to those who have followed me there as well. Obviously due to my current circumstances, that has been put on halt as well after Sun & Moon ended. Apologies, but I’ll be back in 2020 hopefully. As for PokéAni, it was bittersweet as we bid Alola farewell with the Sun & Moon series ending heading into the next generation series. If you’re curious to hear what I have to say about the new series, well here’s your post! The Pokémon anime has officially wrapped up for this year with Ash & Go in the Hoenn region earlier today, in where he WON another tournament showing Go how it’s done! But now, it is time to highlight some of the best episodes (this post will be following the original Japanese release dates, but will still be using the English/game dub names for a universal understanding by all) I personally found noteworthy from each month. Without further ado, let’s take a look back at what the Pokémon anime had to offer in 2019. 1, 2, 3. LET’S GO!
JANUARY - Hello Hapu
Tumblr media
The Poni Island adventures begin! And also, the road to Ash’s final grand trial to complete. This mini-arc started a very fun series of character-centric episodes among the main cast and their Pokémon while they were in the island without Professor Kukui’s guidance. From Sophocles’s Charjabug evolving to a Vikavolt, and Lana’s Popplio evolving to Brionne (plus getting Primarium Z!). But the highlight out of all of this was the character arc of the soon-to-be Poni Island Kahuna, Hapu! She was a stubborn trainer who didn’t want to interact with anyone or battle Ash. She eventually opened up to him and his friends slowly after getting back her stolen radishes from Team Skull (the first appearance of Plumeria as well). She was a key figure on the class’ expedition throughout  Poni for their respective research projects, while Tapu Fini and her late grandfather keep an eye on her progress. Eventually when she did became Kahuna, Ash finally had his rightful battle with her for a grand trial. She didn’t gain only a new set of confidence, but a new set of friends too.
FEBRUARY - Mama Mallow makes us cry
Tumblr media
As the group continues doing their personal research projects in Poni Island, and after Kiawe clears his own trial with Tapu Fini, we get a feels trip to Mallow’s past. Thanks to Tapu Fini’s mysterious mist that allows people to see the departed, Mallow relives her childhood days with her mother. We not only get a teary backstory of what Mallow said to her ill mother before passing away, but also Lillie & Gladion’s attempt to see their “deceased” father, Mohn. Mallow seeking proper closure, finally reunites with her mother in the mist as they spend as much time catching up with one another ever since their improper argument at the hospital. We then discovered that Bounsweet was actually caught by her mom before gifting it to Mallow as her first Pokémon...who is now a fully evolved Tsareena. There were a lot of good moments like seeing the Stoutland that (as if this wasn’t enough of a feels trip) help raised Ash’s Torracat when it was still a Litten, and that Mohn is nowhere to be found in the mist meaning that he’s still alive! Stoutland’s final gift to Torracat was upgrading its Ember move to eventually learning to use Fire Blast. But the most important thing about this episode, is that it teaches us to be grateful to our parents (or those who raised us) even when it looks like they don’t seem to care, we misunderstand and overlook how much they truly care for us. Never take things for granted and live in the moment. In the end, Mallow’s mom gave her one final gift before going back to the afterlife, a Shaymin to care for. Thanks mom :’)
Tumblr media
MARCH - Ya boi is never too late!
Tumblr media
All we can just say when he was first announced was...finally...or about time! Team Skull boss Guzma’s long awaited appearance in the Pokémon anime happened when he and the rest of his gang visited the Pokémon School to confront Professor Kukui. After hearing about the official announcement that the first Alola League was going to happen, Guzma is determined to eliminate everything for what it stands for. Meanwhile, everyone in Alola wanted to get in on the action for an opportunity to become a champion, that includes Ash who stood up to Guzma for Kukui. After wiping the floor with Team Rocket, Guzma battles Ash taking interest with his utilization of the Z-Power Ring. Despite newly perfecting Corkscrew Crash, it had almost no damage on Guzma’s Golisopod. As the battle rages on, Golisopod’s Emergency Exit activates when Pikachu starts to get an upper hand. A stubborn Guzma not wanting to admit what really happened leaves and berates Ash as he sends a clear message on his vow to destroy the Alola League. Guzma and Kukui went face-to-face before Team Skull left, and it’s clear that his intentions were more personal. There’s always a reason behind of it all, and Guzma was seeking for vengeance.
APRIL - Mohn is missing
Tumblr media
After discovering that their father may still be alive (as mentioned in my February highlight), Lillie and her family are searching for answers with the help of the Aether Foundation. Lusamine then confesses to her kids about an Ultra Wormhole incident that caused Mohn to disappear. As they continue to get more info, they stumble upon Mohn’s room and discovered two very important treasures. A Z-Ring which he used to wear, and a Magearna that doesn’t seem to be responsive. Lillie decides to wear and use her Z-Ring until her father is found, while also finding away to bring the Magearna he left back to life. With the blessing of Kahuna Hala and her friends’ support, she deicides to finally put her Icium-Z to good use by practicing the Subzero Slammer Z-move with Snowy now that she finally has a Z-Ring at hand. She fails at her first attempt, it won’t keep her down from practicing until she gets it right. The episode ends on a very touching note with Lillie reading an entry from her father’s old journal revealing that Mohn did in fact bought an inactive Magearna in hopes to restore it to give it to his one and only daughter as a gift <3
MAY - Lana’s lure of fate
Tumblr media
In one of my personal favorite episodes (totally not because she’s my favorite and the best girl), I got shut up for even doubting that her Brionne would evolve this soon (don’t you just hate it when anime previews spoil?). Lana finally decides to make her dream a reality (referenced in previous episodes) to hook a Kyogre at sea! With the help of Ash, they were able to track down a Kyogre that suddenly appeared while the class were fishing. When they discovered that the Kyogre had been poisoned by Pokémon hunters, Lana decides to cure it with an antidote hooked to a special Misty lure she had been given while Ash deals with the troublemakers. Even after curing the poison, the hunters attempting to catch Kyogre made it rage even more. Lana tries to save it by trying to hook him out of the Hunter’s capturing device. She was successful in freeing it but ended up dragging her to the ocean rapidly as a storm develops from an angered Kyogre. And it was at that moment when Brionne wanted to save her  trainer from getting dragged all over, evolving to Primarina was the only way to end this perfect storm. Primarina’s singing calmed down Kyogre, as Lana lifts up her rod graciously with Kyogre in the sky. Dream achieved, and a moment has been made with new sea friend. Now when Lana tells this story, it’s actually the truth and there will be no one laughing now! Later on another episode, Lana & Primarina would learn how to use and master the Oceanic Operatta Z-move, and it’s all thanks to the hook of this Kyogre. I’m sure Misty is proud as well :)
JUNE - Kid Kukui and Little Litten
Tumblr media
There’s a Celebi in this episode...you know what that means. Back to the past! While Ash was training with his Pokémon for the Alola League, a Celebi stumbles upon them and transport Ash & Torracat to the same place where they were at, but only many years ago. They meet this little kid that had Litten with him and it was clearly obvious that his was younger Kukui and his (The Masked Royal’s) Incineroar who hasn’t evolved yet. However, Ash still had no idea he was in the past and treated little Kukui like any other kid he’d meet traveling. The two bond throughout the episode with their similar attitude when it comes to battling, and Ash gladly guided the little kid on executing Z-moves with their Pokémon. The two even worked together assisting a Totem Trevenant in sheltering all the nearby Pokémon as a rainstorm approaches. Thanks to the good heart of Ash helping out everyone, he receives his own Firium Z from the same Trevenant that gave Kukui his Firium Z. He eventually gets back to his timeline where it seemed to have an effect on the present day Kukui. If it wasn’t for that meeting, maybe the professor would’ve had his vision of forming an Alola Pokémon League if it wasn’t for that mysterious older boy he met with his Torracat. A Pokémon time paradox? Maybe...but what I loved about this story is that it repeats itself for the next episode but from the perspectives of Ash’s Pokémon that were left behind in hopes of finding their trainer. Really reminds me of that time Pokémon got separated from their trainers during S.S. Anne arc in the original series, only difference is that the perspectives of the trainers and Pokémon were happening at the same time. But you gotta love a pure whacky Pokémon adventure! Pretty much like a Pikachu short you see before movies.

JULY - Let the League begin!
Tumblr media
The moment everyone has been waiting for...the Alola League has officially begun! With everyone prepared to unleash their Z-Power, it’s time for the qualifying round to start. Unlike previous Leagues, this starts off with a free-for-all Battle Royal with a total of 151 competitors but only 16 will advance to the next round. Most of the trainers in this League are recognizable characters if you have watched Sun & Moon in its entirety up to this point. From Mina to Kahili to Acerola to the entire Team Skull gang to Hiroki and even Pikala, every Alola character is here! While all the Island Kahunas serves as the officials for the event. It was fun way to kick-off a 4-month long League arc and they couldn’t have it done any other way. The top 16 has been decided and it gave us good match-ups to follow in the next couple of episodes such as, Mallow vs. Lana, a childhood friend clash which also tests Mallow’s courage in battling. Our favorite Team Rocket duo in disguise facing off against one another (can’t remember when was the last time we saw that). A sibling battle and a trial on how far Lillie has gone as a Pokémon trainer facing off against her strong big brother, Gladion. And of course, the friendly birby rematch between Ash and Hau. The line-up of matches is stacked! I could not remember how hyped I was for this long-awaited League arc. Some battles might’ve been short and quick, but every participant mattered! How can you not love the Sun & Moon series?
AUGUST - The Alola Final Four
Tumblr media
And then, there were four. In the semi-finals bracket, we first have Gladion facing off against Kiawe who defeated Acerola and bested a friend in Sophocles. He’s pretty much the dark horse in this, but he’s been working hard all series with his battling to get to this point. As Lillie and Mimo (Hoshi) cheer on their big brothers, it was Gladion who got the upper hand and the two exchange in a very meaningful handshake of sportsmanship. Meanwhile on the other side of the semi-finals, Guzma, who blasted through Ilima and Lana, getting his rematch with Ash seeking for retribution after his soft defeat the last time they faced off. It was a clash of personalities as the Team Skull boss vows to get to Kukui by destroying someone who resembles him in Ash and get a big W for his fellow Team Skull outcasts. This battle was more than just advancing through the semi-finals but also the integrity of what the League will become if Guzma is successful in his ploy. Guzma was very aggressive during this match to the point of even scolding his Golisopod. But when you mad, you don’t focus well and that became Guzma’s downfall eventually resulting in his defeat against Ash who battled with his heart. Guzma had to learn the hard way, maybe softened his mindset a bit, but even after losing Plumeria and the rest of the grunts still want to be by his side improving their own skills in battle to be like their fearless leader. You never see a heartwarming ending for a “villainous” team in Pokémon before, but I think Team Skull had their own happy ending.
SEPTEMBER - The “Curse” is finally broken
Tumblr media
Ash vs. Gladion. Here we go, the League finals to determine the inaugural champion of Alola. I mean I already made solo-post last September about how BIG this episode/moment was for our capped hero. Their rivalry has been amazing from the get-go. From their first meeting at the beach by Kukui’s place with a feisty Rockruff that wanted to battle, to the Manalo Stadium battling for a prestigious championship title with Ash’s Lycanroc fully controlled over its rage with dirt. It wasn’t a full battle, but 3-on-3 showdown served us one heck of battle! It may not be considered the best by many, but it was still an amazing and fun bout between two trainers who promised each other to meet in the finals of the big stage. The laugh they shared, the flashbacks that was shown to us (with the awesome Type: Wild! music playing in the background), and the storytelling of who wants it more makes you get to the edge of your seat, cheering for Ash to finally win a major Pokémon League. Ash’s newly evolved Melmetal showcased it’s new strength but still wasn’t able to beat Gladion’s  Silvally. Then, when Zoroark and Pikachu knocked each other out, it was the 1v1 Lycanroc battle that really put this friendly and competitive rivalry full circle.
Tumblr media
Ash has NEVER defeated Gladion...until this moment. He’s been training for this, and it finally paid off. The two Lycanroc’s took no prisoners and went back and forth with one another. In the final blow of that match, Gladion’s Lycanroc used Counter against Ash’s Lycanroc that was charging towards it, but then our big brained hero fights back with their own Counter attack. Never have I heard of Countering a Counter in the Pokémon universe, but using it in this one moment nobody expects, it was the HYPEST way to swerve fans from almost losing the match but ultimately gave an epic counterattack that would knock out Gladion’s Lycanroc. And for the first time since the Orange League, Ash is a Champion. Only this time it is a way bigger deal! Mostly because this is a game-based series which has more meaning when it comes to the Pokémon League.
Tumblr media
Old fans, new fans, and casual viewers a like were buzzing within 24 hours after this episode released in Japan that caught mainstream media attention. People who have never seen a Pokémon anime episode in their life (or a subbed episode for that matter) past the original series, wanted to see how this episode went down to see a childhood hero achieve a major trophy. This is how big of a pop-culture icon Ash & Pikachu was among many generations of fans since the show’s launch internationally. This was truly THE PokéAni moment of 2019. Again, big congratulations to our Alola Champion, Ash Ketchum/Satoshi! Too bad Guzzlord had to ruin the closing ceremony afterparty...
OCTOBER - A fiery full final battle
Tumblr media
So after becoming Alola Champion, sending three Guzzlords back to where they came from, reuniting with Poipole who evolved into a Naganadel, and The Masked Royal’s identity publicly revealed as Professor Kukui ALL IN THE SAME NIGHT! We finally get our exhibition match between Ash and The Masked Royal, who would like to go under his real identity. This is the final battle, and the promised reward the first Alola Champion gets. This is honestly also reward to the fans giving us one final hoorah for the Alola region with a full 6-on-6 Pokémon battle! I believe this is the only full battle we got to see in Alola and it was definitely worth the anticipation and surprise. Kukui had a lot of secret Pokémon up his sleeve that the viewers don’t know about (unless you get spoiled by freakin’ Oha Suta), and it is also the first and only official battle that Naganadel will be part of under Ash’s team. So the excitement levels of this fun 5-PART episode battle were off the roof! Kukui had amazing Pokémon that he kept a secret, but what I do want to focus in this spotlight is the showdown between Incineroar and Torracat. Just like with the Lycanroc duel, these two have similar stories with Torracat never being able to beat The Masked Royal/Kukui’s Incineroar. Ever since it was still a Litten, the desire to battle strong opponents still burns inside. As the two fiery cats clash in this epic battle, both sides have the same intensity when receiving and taking attacks.
Tumblr media
As the battle worn out, both Kukui and Ash activated their Z-Rings together to use Inferno Overdrive against each other. After a gigantic explosion from the Z-move collision it was Torracat who was the last Pokémon standing finally beating its personal battle rival. After a victory screech, I was surprised as everyone seeing it fully evolve into Incineroar. Unfortunately, that evolution took a toll on the newly evolved Pokémon and is unable to continue further. Rest well big kitty, you beat who you wanted to beat and deserve a good rest.
Tumblr media
As if that wasn’t epic enough, in the final phase of this full battle, Tapu Koko steps in and serves as Kukui’s last Pokémon and even granting both parties to be able to use Z-moves once again. Fast forward, Ash and Pikachu finally defeated their first opponent when they first set foot in the Alola region with the Z-Ring Tapo Koko gave them in the first place. It clearly now knows that Ash was a worthy holder of using Z-Power and a Champion that everyone can look  up to. What a battle. What a series. Thank you Alola. Thank you Sun & Moon.
NOVEMBER - Pikachu Origins
Tumblr media
Enter the next chapter. The new era of the Pokémon anime finally launched this in a very different way. The first episode basically serves as the prequel to the Pokémon anime series before Ash had set out on his quest to become a Pokémon Master. Long story short, we can Pikachu’s background story on how he came to be the loving mascot recognized everywhere on paper. I mean who would’ve thunk it? I just love the fact that we’re getting an origin story of how Ash’s Pikachu when it was still a wild Pichu. Although it wasn’t explained how Professor Oak ended up catching the little guy, Pikachu always had a good heart (you know despite rejecting Ash at first lol). The most adorable thing about this episode was the family bond Pichu temporarily shared with this little Kangaskhan family. The little guy was an outcast not really sure where to go or what to do except survive and find food. When that Kangaskhan picked him up as if it was one of its babies, and gained a new caring sibling in the process. It was a wholesome story of calling someone family even though there is no blood relation. Pichu was literally not their kind, but they still loved him as it was them!
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, we get a little preview of our new characters from seeing their childhood and setting up the premise for them to cross paths with Ash in the future. The newest protagonist, Go, was a little know-it-all about Pokémon, and he sure bragged a lot of his knowledge on it during one of Professor Oak’s camp (in which Ash failed to wake up for). Along with his worrisome friend, Koharu, they spotted a Mew while going off course in Oak’s tour around their campsite. It would also be the saving grace of the lost baby Kangaskhan who accidentally fell off a cliff after attempting to play with the Mew. After seeing Mew’s psychic abilities, it was clear for Go that he needed to catch Mew one day. This is the initial goal that Go wanted to set out for when he’s old enough.
Tumblr media
After the incident with his Kangaskhan sibling, Pichu had to re-think if he wants to continue being a part of a pack that he doesn’t even properly belong it in the first place. When the herd of Kangaskhan took shelter in cave during heavy rain, Pichu had to make a tough decision and leave his foster family behind while they were asleep because he knew that the mother Kangaskhan would not let go of someone who it sees as a child of her own. Pichu knew that was the only way, but despite his sad decision he was grateful for the happiness they provided for a lone wolf Pokémon that wandered in the wild looking belong somewhere. It was that same happiness that gave Pichu the strength to evolve to the Pikachu we all know today, and found a forever home with a certain tardy boy a couple of years later that they both formed an inseparable friendship.
DECEMBER - The Great Gigantamax in Galar
Tumblr media
Of course, you can’t have a new series without showing off a new region?! As our “research fellows” Ash & Go continue their exploration in the Galar region learning more about the Dynamax phenomenon that causes Pokémon to grow bigger in size, they are about to be in for one gigantic dilemma. They had some trouble when they met a bunch of trickster Pokémon in those Nickit and a dirty Scorbunny trying to steal their food, but that wasn’t the last they saw of that Scorbunny. When they took the train to explore the Wild Area, Scorbunny secretly tagged along in hopes to be partners with Go after feeling a connection with the trainer during their first encounter. After MANY attempts of trying get Go’s attention, he finally notices Scorbunny after it kicks a rock to knock down fruit on top of a Snorlax they were observing (that hits Ash’s head first oof). Scorbunny attempts to get caught by Go, but he declined due to his vow for Mew to be his first catch. After the sad rejection, red lights then start to surround the Snorlax that ended up Dynamaxing it to Gigantamax Snorlax! This caused a big road blockage that affects a train line in that area. Ash, Pikachu, Go and Scorbunny decide to team up and move the Snorlax before the next train comes by to avoid a disaster from happening. Ash and Pikachu were able  to cut down a big fruit from the Gigantamax Snorlax’s body and pass it on to Go and Scorbunny to make sure he jumps (just like earlier from Scorbunny’s accidental fruit pick) for that fruit in time for the train to pass by without anyone getting hurt. It was a tough task getting all the way up to the belly of beast, but thanks the Double Kick boost Scorbunny gave that big fruit, Snorlax not only moved in time for the next train to stop by, but return back to normal (big) size.
Tumblr media
Unfortunately, Scorbunny was also swallowed in that big gulp, but it was a good thing that Snorlax didn’t munch it all the way. After the teamwork Go felt with Scorbunny during all that, he decides to modify his dream a bit and wants Scorbunny to now be his first Pokémon catch. Both are happy to be with one another, and we all know this was going to be the start of wonderful friendship. With this addition to the group, the main cast for the new anime series is now fully-set. Let the true adventures around the Pokémon world begin!
Some honorable mentions…
2019 for PokéAni marked an end of an era, but a start of a new one too! No doubt one of the most impactful years the show has had in the world since the XY&Z arc. Besides the historic Alola League, we also saw the continuation of Brock & Misty’s trip to Alola (not to mention Brock & Olivia’s adorkable interactions together), the class’ crash-course golf lessons with none other than Kahili! Ash catching a rare Meltan that appeared out of nowhere, The Sparkling Trio of Mallow, Lana & Lillie uniting as Alola DrinKyun (’Refreshing Trio: Alola Idols’ in the English dub), Ash challenging Ryuki’s Kantonian Gym, the high-speed Vikavolt race, Mallow’s vision in opening her Pokémon café, Matori’s unexpected visit to the Team Rocket base in Alola, and let’s not for get about the Ultra Guardians finishing up their final missions in capturing the remaining UBs: Pheromosa and Kartana. And honestly, after seeing all of Sun & Moon, can everyone just agree that Kukui is the BEST Pokémon professor?!
Tumblr media
Of course, how can I not mention the final episode of Sun & Moon? In what was probably one of the most emotional farewell episodes in the anime’s history. If you don’t have bias from the original goodbye with Brock & Misty in Johto, this would probably be the best one. It was executed perfectly with Ash’s class figuring out what to do in the future with Ash himself not sure what to do moving forward. Naganadel had to return back to its homeworld, the Rockets had to say leave their Alola Pokémon with Bewear as she sends them off one final time, Nebby returns to see Ash one final time, and Lillie decides to search for her father away from Alola after brining Magearna to life. With everyone deciding what to do, Ash heads back home to explore the world (which transitions to the new series) leaving all his Alola Pokémon behind in Kukui’s lab, while Rotom Dex decides to work for the Aether Foundation. The boat scene with Lillie was a good touch on how her character evolved thanks to Ash’s help, and the departing airport scene with Kukui, Burnet, and Ash group hugging was touching. Even Ash teared up as he gets in the air leaving Alola as his friends and Pokémon he left behind wave goodbye. If that wasn’t a good send off for the Sun & Moon series, Mallow’s Shaymin finally achieved its Sky Forme (which have her mother’s eyes...could be a touching symbolism that she was always watching her ;_;) from a Gracidea flower before taking off, AND ON TOP OF THAT, the final shot of the series no less, we find out that Professor Burnet is pregnant. Never in the history of this anime has ever done that to a major character in the supporting cast. The Sun & Moon series continues to break ground as one of the best Pokémon series.
Other than that, we got the new series (which I still wish we had a proper sub-title for -_-) giving us a taste of what to expect in the new Generation VIII era. Our newly appointed research fellows, Ash & Go are at Professor Sakuragi’s Institute helping with his research along with Mimey and Koharu helping out with the household chores. Lugia brought these two together, and are now living under the same roof. And, can we talk about Mimey?! I’m so glad a classic character from this anime is being used as a permanent supporting character for this series. Not to mention that he battled alongside Ash in the Hoenn tournament and won! It’s also refreshing to see updated animation within Kanto where they’re home base is at, and I absolutely cannot wait for them to go back to other regions with this fresh new art style. With Go’s goal to catch every Pokémon there is for him to index, he’s bound to meet Mew again one day! He’s literally every Pokémon games’ protagonist and I’m glad we have a main character like him who actually focuses on catching them all. As for Ash, he’s still our Ash carving his own unique path on his continuing journey to become a Pokémon Master because it’s more than being the strongest trainer and more than just catching Pokémon. I’m going to take his word for it! I don’t know if you noticed, but Go kinda looks up to him a bit due to his experiences in battle. Just look how shy he was just wanting to be his friend. You just gotta love it when they make Ash this mentor-type friend especially now coming off a huge victory in the Alola League becoming a champion.
Tumblr media
Overall, the Sun & Moon anime gave us a variety of different set of stories every week leading up to the anticipated Alola League. Everyone had a story to tell building up to the Alola League, and just look at the list of episodes we’ve had this year that went back and forth with characters that get a main focus other than Ash (or even Lillie). Most of these episodes I’m talking about are either development for a Pokémon in their team evolving, or a perfecting a Z-move with their respective Z-Crystals. This shows much the writers care about each main character gets enough screen-time before they’re ready to take on the League with Ash. If you are still thinking on whether or not to continue/finish watching the series if you haven’t yet, I would still recommend to please watch until the end! It’s a really fun ride to sit through it all in my humble opinion, unless you want to just bolt straight into the League episodes only caring about Ash’s story. You do you. As for the new series, it will definitely pick up the pace sooner or later with the initial episodes are setting up to lead into something bigger. If you aren’t hooked in yet, definitely be patient because I’m expecting a lot of good opportunities for them to pull off in this cross-region based format. Sure it isn’t based 100% on the latest games in the franchise Sword & Shield, but that’s what separates the anime and the games. The anime is doing its own thing with an original story, but I’m pretty sure they will mix-in some of the interesting storylines and feature important characters from Sword & Shield every time they revisit Galar because it’s the new region on the block. They should feature/market a lot of episodes from all the new content Galar has. So I would definitely still keep my eyes on the Pocket Monsters series 👀
And there you have it! This post as long as it already is, so I’ll stop here. If you’ve read everything I had to say (maybe a few typos here and there lol), then thank you for your time! Feel free share your own favorite PokéAni moment 2019 with a reblog or a reply if you choose to do so. Thanks so much for an amazing year, and it’s time for us to GO to 2020. More moments await for us, and maybe even some surprises we might see since Ash is returning to previous regions he already visited in the past. See everyone in 2020 for the first full year of the new ‘Pocket Monsters’ series. Let’s go (with Go heh) and have some fun! Yes, I think used the word ‘go’ here too many freakin’ times lol
Tumblr media
Happy New Year to all my followers, and the rest of the Pokémon fandom!

Hey! It's the anon once again. I was finally able to see your post once I got the Tumblr app. I want to thank you. You and your ideas got me back in the Pokemon fandom and actually inspired me to work on my own Pokemon fanfic. I also have some questions. What do you think of Ash? Who's your favorite and least characters from each game/anime? What's your favorite pairing? Some of your favorite headcanons? Why do you hate Rose so much? (Haven't played SWSH)
I’m so happy that you were able to see it!!! And I’m happy that my work and ideas brought i you ou back! And wnsnans I CAN’T WAIT TO READ THE FIC!!!!
What do you think of Ash?
I’ve always seen myself in Ash. He reminded me of a child with severe ADHD, and me a child with severe ADHD loved having a character I can somewhat relate to than just more than girl characters. I also love how close he is with his Pokémon, and how he treats them very differently from a lot of trainers. Along with how he never actually forces them to evolve, it’s always up to them if they truly want to do that.
What is your favorite/least favorite character from each Game/anime?
(I’ll do the games another time but I’m sticking with the Anime for now!!!)
Gen 1
Fav: Ash 👀 which is obvious
Dis: Lance surprisingly, I liked him a lot better when he showed up in Johto and during the last fight in Hoenn. But never liked him to begin with.
Gen 2
Fave: Brock, Ash actually gave me some annoyance during Gen 2 and Brocks Normal antics with pretty girls didn’t really upset me like it usually does
Dis: Misty, for the soul fact I didn’t like her voice. It reminded me to much of one of my old pre school teachers that actually hated me so I just associated Misty with her until after the Sinnoh arc
Gen 3
Fav: May, she reminded me a lot like Ash and also with having a little brother. I have two little sisters so I connected more with May
Dis: Wallace. Fuckin’ Wallace for the reason being I hated his fucking outfit
Gen 4
Fav: Cynthia, she wanted to fight Gods and I love her
Dis: mix up between Paul and Barry for reasons very blatant
Gen 5
Fav: Ash back at it again because Cilan and Iris were to fucking annoying
Dis: Iris and Alder. It’s a tie between the two. Alder because he’s a Bumbling idiot and doesn’t deserve the title of Himbo. And I took personal offense every time Iris called Ash a kid when he ended up doing a small thing wrong or doing something that he just Dose because he’s Ash.
Gen 6
fav: Professor Sycamore, when he found out who the mask Blaziken was it made me smile a lot because the Professor also kept the secret to himself for so long
Dis: Serena, she was a good character and loved by many, I respect that. Her voice was annoying, along with Bonnie but I had a weird connection to her since my sisters loved her, and how blantant she was with Ash. Even though it was his own fault for not seeing the obvious fucking clues
Gen 7
Fav: Professor Kukui and Ash, FAMILY BOND!!!!
Dis: Faba. Do I even have to explain him?
Gen 8
(Ik, IK it’s barley even out tho)
Fav: I’m having a feeling I’ll love Marnie if she comes to the anime. But for now it’s Ash, the art style is amazing and the scene with Lugia? B L E S S
Dis: Chairman Rose and Oleana, I know their not in the anime yet but I still can’t help myself.
What’s your favorite pairing?
Its a toss up between four right now.
Palletshipping- it was literally the second ship I got into and was also another reason for me to continue watching Pokémon after Gen 1 because my friend hinted that Ash and Gary made up, somewhat, after the Johto conference. So it’s an oldy but a goodie and I enjoy a lot of smaller headcanons about them.
Originalshipping- it was, I think, my fifth ship? I loved watching my older brothers play the first Pokémon games every Christmas Eve after dinner at my dads. It was a tradition that still goes on today. But besides that, I love stoic and silent Red with blabber mouth and energetic Green. I screamed when I found out they were going to be at the battle tree in the Alola Sun and Moon game.
(I blame @hiddenbyfaeries for the next two because she talked/screamed with/at me about them)
Ash/Hau/Gladion- their cute separate and together. And Hau and Gladion has a lot of good emotions in the game while both had very good episodes with Ash in the anime. Gladion and Hau just didn’t have any together from my recollection.
Leon/Ash/Raihan- I never stated anything about this in a post. But I will clarify that I mean Leon/OLDER!Ash/Raihan, for Ash would technicaly be around 20-something if the anime would let him age up instead of staying ten. But it’s slowly climbing higher in my heart of ships.
Favorite headcanons?
- Ash is strong, crazy strong. But his body doesn’t shown it, he still has soft baby fat and slightly round edges. Yet he can still chuck you to the moon if he puts enough effort into it
- my Tattoo!AU in general, which I’ll expand later on
- Brock is still the best cook to Ash, even when he gets older and all. Brock is the best
- Gary has a natural attraction to Dark and Fairy types. So when he goes to Kalos for a few month working under Professor Sycamore he ends up getting a sylveon, shiny or not is your chose to interpret
- Cynthia likes watching Dawn during contests, just like Diantha likes watching Serena in her contests
- ^^^ Diantha was slightly sad that Serena wasn’t going to enter in the Kalos contests. But she did warn Wallace about how good Serena is and got the older man to watch some of the girls old competitions. Wallace ends up falling in love with the girl and some how ends up becoming her pseudo weird ass uncle
-^^^^ she calls up May, who Ash sent her phone number to because he doesn’t want to approach Serena yet because of the kiss, and asks about Wallace
- May: *Sighs* he unofficially adopted you?
Serena: *panicked* he’s asking me to call him Uncle Wall!?
May: *seriouse* welcome to the family, you can’t escape
- both Gary and Ash melt when you pet their hair, like really get into it and lightly scratching their skulls. Their puddles of love and whine and complain when you stop.
- this is more canon I believe than a headcanon, but Professor Oak was an Ice type trainer before becoming a Pokémon Professor. So imagine him with an Alolan Ninetails
Why do you hate Rose so much?
I don’t have SWSH either, I watched my little cousins and older brothers play it on the Tv. I had an inkling of Rose since he was first introduced before the game. Something just bagged at the back of my head and grew as more content came out. This is the first time we’re dealing with a Chairman of the League in general, it’s usuajust the Champion that you see running it (or in Alola’s case, Professor Kukui). So having an actual Chairman just set off my warnings signs and I ended up being right that he was the bad guy. Oleana also didn’t help his image to me. But I’ve also felt with people like him and they were all very condescending to me, so just seeing him made my blood fucking boil.

Moon/Lillie High-School AU
I’d like to write a fic with this AU, but I don’t ever think I will, so here are the highlights of it.
- Moon and Hau have been best friends since childhood.
- Hau is really friendly with everyone. He has a bunch of friends, but Moon, Lillie, and Gladion are his besties.
- Moon’s only friend for the longest time is Hau. She’s shy and is afflicted with a number of mental disorders, most notably aspergers and anxiety. She’s selectively mute because whenever she says something, she manages to anger someone.
- She and her mother moved to the beach early in life due to her hyper-fixation on it. Her father didn’t follow, thinking Moon should just ‘deal with’ her disorders and be ‘normal’.
- Lusamine isn’t outright abusive, but does heavily neglect her children. Both Lillie and Gladion ran away from home and were taken under the care of  Kukui, who here is a college professor.
- One night while unwinding along on the beach, Moon encounters Lillie, who is out looking for a dog, Nebby.
- Lillie asks Moon if she’s seen Nebby, but Moon freaks out and runs off because someone interrupted her during her private time.
- Later when school starts, the two learn that they’re classmates. Booth feel horribly awkward around the other. Moon has a lot of anxiety over other people thinking she’s weird and she thinks she definitely weirded Lillie out. Lillie, meanwhile, thinks she scared Moon off.
- Lillie keeps trying to apologize to Moon while Moon keeps trying to avoid Lillie.
- Hau tries to explain things to Gladion. Gladion suggests getting the two to talk on familiar ground for them both, but doesn’t know what it would be
- Hau knows Lillie already, since both volunteer at an animal shelter by the beach that regularly takes the animals out to the beach to play.
- Hau convinces Moon to volunteer, mainly because her favorite thing after the beach is animals.
- Moon is a nervous wreck though, especially with Lillie around, though it fades away when she starts playing with the animals.
- Lillie apologizes for scaring Moon off. Moon wants to tell her she did nothing wrong, but can’t get it across due to her fear of speaking.
- Lillie catches onto Moon’s mute-ism and starts writing in the sand in hopes of it being a less stressful means of communication for Moon. Both explain their situation and become friends.
- Hau and Gladion are friends now too, Hau dragging Gladion to help at the shelter. Gladion is kinda peeved since he has to get up early on weekends to do it.
- Lillie gifts Moon a notebook for communication. Moon squeaks out a “Thanks.” Both blush.
- Being with Lillie comforts Moon and being with Moon comforts Lillie. Naturally, this turns to stress when they realize they both have crushes on the other.
- The begin to avoid each other. Moon avoiding the shelter and even beach on the off chance Lillie goes there. Lillie sits further away from Moon than usual in class.
- Hau obviously notices and intervenes, having a discussion with Moon via her notebook. Moon says she wants to kiss Lillie.
- Gladion notices Lillie acting strange. Lillie admits her crush on Moon, but says she’s afraid it would overwhelm Moon and cause her to become reclusive again. Gladion points out this is already happening and avoiding her will only make it worse.
- Lillie eventually confronts Moon, planning to say they need to stop avoiding each other. Unfortunately, when Moon opens her notebook to talk, she opens to her previous conversation with Hau. Lillie sees the question and answer of, “Why are you avoiding Lillie?” “Because I want to kiss her.”
- Lillie that she feels the same way and is willing to give her one, but Moon is actually overwhelmed by it and declines.
- Nevertheless, the two start going out.

Reasons why I enjoy writing each of my muses
Bruno:
Tumblr media
For a character that is limited in vocabulary he is one of the most intelligent of anyone I write, but it’s the nature he has that makes the combination so much fun. Firstly when it comes to Bruno I wanted the side effects of being mind controlled for so many years to have an impact. Of course there isn’t much research or science with mind control so I had to work something in and I thought well some people wake up from comas caused by brain damage with different languages learned or accents, sometimes have to relearn things, so what if being mind controlled is like a coma but you wake up being unable to speak how you used to. In came Bruno. The other thing about him walking out of Rocket with a disability was intentional because he hangs about the Johto elites these days. All of them also came from Rocket and their baggage is mental, emotional, but it’s something that they not only carry but in a way almost make it something they have to hold, there’s guilt there. Bruno is the only one who really can’t have guilt because he had no control. All of the others had a choice, they could of chosen to not be in Rocket but they did so they have that guilt and can only really blame themselves at the end of the day. Bruno can’t, and in that aspect one could argue he has the mot right to be angry, to want revenge because everything was forced on him. However he doesn’t have that attitude, when it comes to Rocket he is open and very quick to forgive them which is dramatically different form the others. In his mind if Karen, Koga, Will, and Lance all became such good people why couldn’t anyone else from Rocket? Therefore he forgives them, now he still believes in justice for actions, but he’s willing to give them a chance if they will. Bruno is the most physically strong of the group but he’s also the strongest emotionally.
Kukui:
Tumblr media
Admittedly he’s the one I am the least confident to write so I am always eager to get more interaction with him. I jumped on the sun and moon rp bus late. Like it’s still around but it’s no where near as active and I am aware of that. However I just really like Kukui. he’s got alot of big dreams and aspirations which are fun to follow along with. Juniper for me was when I feel like the pokemon company actually started to do more with the professors. They went from just another guy with a briefcase to a character that had more depth to them that wasn’t simply hinted at but actually was explored. They gave them weight and purpose to the story which I was excited to see. Kukui was given SOOO much attention in the anime which was wild, and even though I only watch bits and pieces from the anime I loved his character when he got on screen since it felt like every time I did see him he was playing to an overall arc for himself. I loved that since usually no one ever grows in the pokemon anime, or if they do it’s minimal. The other thing they gave him was just alot of character and inroads. Granted I feel like they gave him alot for a side character like, he’s a wrestler, he’s a researcher, he helps run a school, he developed a poked, he wants to make a league, then there’s relationships such s Guzma and Burnett, basically he’s got too much going on in my opinion for that show but as a character to write for I have time to develop that which I’m excited about.
Lucy:
Tumblr media
In this house we love our quiet girl. Oddly she’s almost like an opposite to Bruno in a way. She has this positive energy but it’s more subtle and hidden. Even her speech quirk is more subtle than Bruno’s. Also she’s one of the few where I actually don’t use too much of the manga to influence her character. I enjoyed her character in the anime alot. That episode with her was one of the few we owned and I watched it so much. I just found it crazy how this strong imposing character was made practically mute by these people that huddle around her which are apparently ‘friends’. Like I always found it weird these supposed good guys seemed to in general hurt her more than help, and for whatever reason she let’s it continue. Then in the game they aren’t around but there’s these pauses every time she speaks and after watching that episode I felt like she’s just waiting to be interrupted. I felt bad for her as a character cause I felt like she had alot to say, she had all these dreams and ideas, but she just had the hardest time letting them out because no one would let her. As for her disability I figured it’d be the start of why she was so silenced. Since it took her so long to be able to understand and communicate things were just sort of done for her, or steps were made to try to give her what she wanted when sometimes that wasn’t what she was trying to express. However with busy parents and such she just kind of put up with it figuring,”well I guess they know what’s best.” What I’m excited about with this character is developing her and writing her in a way so that she starts deciding for herself what’s best, and become the bold girl we know she can be.
Eusine:
Tumblr media
He a bad boy but not like does bad things more like the 50% item at Walmart. Seriously I love this guy cause he’s supposed to be a good guy that we all root for and love but he’s just kind of a jerk. His goal is to find Suicune and show that,”not al humans are awful!” but I see it as this big hero complex. He’s a guy who wants the posh life so he dresses that way. he sees himself as the cream of the crop and the one to drive himself out of a situation by having this big noble cause of correcting a wrong, but that’s it. His goal is so vapid, and fleeting that once he accomplishes it what is he even going to do? Settle down?  Look for more? What is there past that? It’s something that he yearns for so bitterly but he hasn’t thought about asking’what next?’ even once and dismisses the question if asked. His drive is brought on by wanting to become as famous as the elusive legend, for being the one to reunite the pokemon and people, but if you look at everything it’s like someone chasing down those elusive 15 minutes of fame thinking that will make them happy. The other thing is that despite saying he’s better than any other human the only one who really gains from him meeting and changing suicune’s mind is himself. After all suicune is more trusting now, they’re now in more danger, and eusine get’s to flaunt how wonderful he is. There’s not much substance there at all to his motivation, but he refuses to see it that way. He also has this aggravating prideful stance about himself despite coming from humble means while claiming to be a representation of humanity’s best for legendary pokemon to trust. Sure he’s maybe got loyalty to a few people, but he also refuses to admit those he’s loyal to are possible to fault. After all if they have faults then he’s made a mistake for trusting them, and a man of his caliber can't possibly make mistakes like that. At least that’s what goes through his head. Eusine is a spoiled child, and he’s not a good person, but man is he fun to write seeing how utterly delusional he can be.

Tinfoil Discussions - Pokémon anime: Alola, Galar and the Fate of Ash Ketchum
So here’s a new tinfoil discussion, one of a different franchise. The One Piece Wano content got a whopping zero attention but who cares? I’d like to discuss this, especially given the uncertain nature of the upcoming series. I must warn you, there are spoilers in this, deep level spoilers. I’m not just talking about the events of Episode 138 recently released in Japan, I also want to discuss the nature of Episode 140′s title. If you wanna know about that stuff, Bulbapedia is a good shout.
The Stuff We Know Last week on the aftermath of Episode 137, Pokémon teased a new anime series, alluding to the fact that all regions would be visited in some manner. Leaving it at that, many things have circulated, the main question is: Is this the end of Ash Ketchum’s story? After all, Ash is on the precipice of winning the Manalo Conference, Alola’s first Pokémon League, all that’s left is to defeat Gladion - who has put off the search for his lost father to fight in the league but more on that later. The final title of the Sun and Moon series has not been announced, all we know is that by Episode 140, Guzzlord will hop dimensions onto this world. The Potential End of Ash Ash Ketchum has been the main protagonist for the anime for over 2 decades, I was a boy watching him, Misty and Brock travel Kanto. On every (official) region however, Ash has fallen short of the Pokémon League, sometimes poorly, sometimes impressively. Many people thought last season in Kalos would be his time, and many of those people were angry when he didn’t, so Alola can be seen as retribution - second attempt and all. Should he win the league, the question is what then? Winning the league should enable Ash to fight the Elite Four, but it may be considered a stopping point since it means that Ash has no true reason to continue resetting. So is Pokémon planning on closing time on Ash Ketchum? The movies have not followed his anime journey anymore and there is so much you can do. Personally, this is a worrisome thought but - because there’s always a but - I don’t think this is the route they should or will go. The Outcome of the Manalo Conference The Manalo Conference is the name of the Alola League, and it’s expected to end next week.  Frankly, I have felt that this conference was a sham, a true vanity project from Professor Kukui. Now I’m not saying that Kukui is a bad guy, he’s just a bit vainglorious; he made a Pokémon League - having failed to defeat Lance in the Indigo League at least in the games - based off the architecture of a Pokémon School where he has like 6 students that learn nothing and have an underground X-Men facility, he lets just about anyone enter it regardless of the Island Challenge and what does the winner get? To fight his Masked Luchador alter-ego. The man puts himself on a high pedestal, but worse than that this league is tailor made for Ash to win. His only major opposition is the finalist Gladion - who has no reason to fight the ‘Royal Mask’. We also could’ve buffed some of the side character teams with Oranguru for Mallow, Drampa for Mallow or Lana, Dewpider for Lana, Clefable for Lillie, even Bewear for TR, but we didn’t, never really giving any of Ash’s companions a chance at making an impact. Narratively Ash is the only person who should win the league, since Kiawe and Hau had not enough attention to be considered viable and Guzma was the generic ‘bad guy who underestimates Ash’ who Ash always beats. The league also doesn’t feel like the right setting, since Ash doesn’t even have a full team and the final is not a full battle. Lillie, who is great but not a battler, made it further than Kahili - in the games an Elite 4 Member. That is the extra silliness we get on top of Ash’s ‘strategies’ (which involve Pikachu’s Electroweb not working like Electroweb and Rowlet’s Featherdance not working like Featherdance) and the fact that Gladion can use Items mid-battle to grant Silvally unfair advantages. But despite my opinions, the conference can still go either way. Because really, Ash doesn’t need the league to fight Kukui, the last time he fought ‘Royal Mask’ was on a beach, and Gladion doesn’t need the league to find his father, but we are reaching a point where a winner seems to be close to decided. Currently, despite both being 1-1, Ash is on the front foot, he’s only lost his most inexperienced Pokémon and it was to Gladion’s Pikachu-equivalent, he knows that Gladion has got Lycanroc for last and his Pikachu still stands against Zoroark, but this is not our first rodeo, we fully expect the finale to be Lycanroc vs Lycanroc, so who comes out on top? Option 1 is Ash, obviously, Lycanroc hasn’t beaten Gladion’s Lycanroc so it can be due, Ash goes one better than Kalos and wins undoubtedly the easiest League he’s ever signed up for in front of his mother. Option 2 is Gladion, like Alain’s Charizard against Ash-Greninja, Gladion’s Lycanroc maintains a perfect record against Ash’s, being the more experienced battler and Ash loses his easiest league in front of his mother but saves his crowning achievement for a proper challenge and liberates Ash to continue challenging gyms and resetting per region. Before the episode title for 140 was announced, these seemed to be our only options, until Option 3 Option 3: Guzzlord Guzzlord appeared in a random 2-parter to market Zeraora, but it seems to be coming back around. Guzzlord secretly seems to be the key to some character resolution, primarily the status of Gladion and Lillie’s father Mohn - who has been missing since falling through an Ultra Wormhole. Guzzlord can also be key to sparing Ash the restriction that comes with the League Victory but also prevents the disappointment of Ash losing. If Guzzlord intervenes the final outcome of the battle, then there is no winner. Ash didn’t lose but he didn’t win, and he carries momentum to get a victory with his magic changing z-crystal to best Guzzlord with his friends once and for all, and it allows Ash to still do the bi-annual reset. Guzzlord’s appearance also can lead to Magearna, Bewear and Team Rocket’s Mech being utilized, loose threads that will hopefully surface (though I’m stumped as to the status of Shaymin, why can’t Mallow just keep it?). Out of the three options this does feel like the better one, because Ash hasn’t earned his league victory yet. Why hasn’t Ash earned the League Being a Pokémon archivarius, I can cast my mind back to past leagues. Indigo was hard, the rules were stupid and we were basically robbed of a rival battle thanks to Charizard’s Laziness, the Silver Conference saw Ash be edged out by Harrison and his Blaziken to promote Hoenn, Ever Grande saw Ash lose to eventual winner Tyson in a tough Pikachu/Meowth fight, Lily of the Valley had Ash bested again by the eventual winner, the OP Legendary user Tobias, the Vertress Conference stepped back and had Ash lose to clumsy, forgetful Cameron thanks to a Lucario evolution and Lumiose had Ash overachieve by losing to the seemingly unstoppable Alain. Out of all of those leagues, the best arguably for me would have to be Sinnoh - the second longest league with 7 episodes to reach the semi finals, Manalo being 10 and all previous being 6 - because every battle Ash had to fight for it; Nando, Conway, Paul (considered one of the best Pokémon battles) and Tobias, he used the full power of his arsenal to do it, which sold that Ash was giving it his all, we got to see Pokémon old and new shine from it, and full battles for at least half of Ash’s battles. The thing that also makes it stand out to me is that there’s no excuse; Ash doesn’t have a fancy one of a kind form like Ash-Greninja or Dusk Lycanroc, he doesn’t have a Legendary Pokémon like Meltan/Melmetal and he doesn’t apply a tactic that shouldn’t work or the same motion of Pikachu quick attack everything and then iron tail - like I know there’s only 4 moves but he always starts with Quick Attack and it drives me insane! It’s stuff that’s inspired rather than convenient so all that Ash is left with is his mettle. Comparing that journey to this one, where Ash beat Faba in less than 4 moves in a 1v1, 2-Hitted Hau’s Decidueye while absorbing a nonsense amount of damage and a fakeout loss to beat Hau, and bested Guzma by really lucking out on Golisopod’s Emergency Exit, it doesn’t feel right now does it? Ash’s League Victory should be a triumph that pushes the extent of Ash’s team, strategy and connection to his Pokémon, against true challenges where either one has a chance at besting him, that is why all the Post-Sinnoh conferences have not been ‘it’; Sawyer, Trip, Guzma and Hau were never really given the threat that they could beat Ash, in fact Sawyer only beat Ash once and it was excusable by him having Ash-Greninja dysfunction. Compiling all of this into account, it should be clear that even if Ash does win this league, it is not what it’s meant to be. The Galar Series Question So Galar is still going to be a thing, we just don’t know how. What is this new series after all? It could just be a side series, it could be a means of bringing older companions to Galar or it may even follow Ash in Galar and some other characters who’ll entwine with him a la Alain and Mairin. Possibilities are endless until the answer is concrete, but in this person’s opinion I still believe Ash would embark in Galar. Would not miss the chance to Dynamax Pikachu for love nor money, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they heavily divert from the game’s plot like they have for Alola. Galar seems to revolve its gym system in a similar manner to Football (or Soccer if you’re overseas and well, wrong), it’s heavily televised like a League, which means that if they go this route Ash would be thrown into a heavy limelight, which can be restrictive, so I kinda expect that to be toned down, I will also expect TR to return with Bewear (or maybe a Nurse Joy kinda deal with another Bewear) and Marnie to probably be a companion. So of course, that answers my closing statement Are we closing the Book on Ash Ketchum Stupidity and failures aside, Ash is undoubtedly an anime icon, and I would find TPCi and TV Tokyo foolish to give that up, especially when other franchises have brought back the OG Digidestined for TRI and Goku & Friends for Dragon Ball Super, Ash has mileage but perhaps not in the same routine past series have followed. Each new setting is a new adventure and even small things can influence a unique dynamic - like even making Ash 11. People may need to think outside of the box, pick the qualities of what has passed, but that’s a good thing! Change is scary yes but that doesn’t mean you drop something entirely, Pokémon have enough IP that they can make Non-Ash series too, if they want to they can expand their market that way, just don’t give up on Ash Ketchum. This is not how his story should end, it would insult the character and the storytellers of the past to do so. But I wouldn’t worry too much about this happening, the best we can do is sit down, enjoy the show, and bide my sweet time until I get hired by them hope that sense prevails over a quick ‘shocking headline’. So that’s my piece, if you have opinions don’t be shy, but also be respectful, this is only stuff I’m feeling at present, by the passage of time new information may alter opinion.

My favorite Pokeani episode from each series
I wanted to do this just for fun and to have some kind of list for future reference so here we go.
OS (since it’s much longer than the other series I’m gonna split it into 3 parts)
Kanto arc
(First a note that I’ve grown up with this series so it’s really hard to pick just one)
OS015-017: The SS Anne episodes & Island of the Giant Pokémon
I just love seeing how the pokemon interact when the trainers are not around + these episodes have a lot of funny moments.
Honorary mention: OS040: Battling Eevee Brothers
Eeveelutions are my favorite ‘mon, so enough said.
Orange Islands arc
OS115: A Tent Situation
This episode has a lot of dumb humor that I love. And Gary is there.
Honorary mention:  Wherefore Art Thou, Pokémon?
There are some slightly poke/shippy moments in the English dub of this episode that I enjoy. And of course the Nidoran are cute.
Johto arc
EP151: The Totodile Duel
I love Ash and Misty and I love Totodile so seeing them battle for it (and Ash winning this time; I was always a bit upset about Togepi when I was a kid) = great
Honorary mentions: Larvitar arc, Ash vs Gary league battle, Bayleef centered episodes & Casey (I would also mention Gotta Catch Ya Later but it always breaks my heart a bit)
Advanced Generation
AG187: The Unbeatable Lightness of Seeing
I adore Contestshipping and this episode really shows how far they have come. Also, Oak’s gifts to Ash were adorable ♥
Honorary mention: AG182 Channeling the Battle Zone!
The entire Kanto Grand Festival is awesome, but May and Drew’s battle is without a doubt one of the very best in this anime.
Diamond & Pearl
DP076: A Full Course Tag Battle
Ngl I will probably never not be bitter about how the Wallace Cup ended (I’m so sorry Dawn) but May appearing (and getting angry over food) made me so happy this is definitely among my favorite DP episodes.
Honorary mention: DP062 Tanks for the Memories! (such a funny filler episode) and the Chimchar arc.
Best Wishes
BW077: Evolution by Fire
Even though Tepig is the main character in this episode, Snivy has some of her best moments in it. I love how protective she is towards her friends.
Honorary mentions: BW127: The Pirates of Decolore & BW139: Team Rocket's Shocking Recruit!
Both episodes have some hilarious moments when Meowth translates and refuses to translate other ‘mon’s (read: Snivy’s) speech. (This series has so many episodes I could mention. The Meloetta arc, some N episodes, all Snivy focused episodes, battle tournaments...)
XY(&Z)
XY&Z44/XY137:  Battling With a Clean Slate!
I squeed from the moment I saw the preview for this episode. After the dark Flare incident, my favorite children finally got a few moments of happiness. And Mairin is just so damn adorable.
Honorary mention: the entire TSME arc (&XY&Z36)
Not even gonna explain this.
Sun&Moon
SM055: The Professors’ New Adventure
Kukui and Burnet’s wedding. No other explanation needed ♥
Honorary mention: SM049:  Mission: Total Recall!
Lillie gaining her ability to touch Pokémon has been one of the most emotional scenes in SM so far :3

me, suddenly: what if there was a pokeani sun/moon styled school anime but with all the protags !!
Selene: 11. Main character. Typically cute anime girl personality, downplayed by her introversion and frequent grouchiness. Bored ex-champion (who lost her spot to Gladion) goes to school to pass the time.
Elio: 11. Selene’s twin brother. Has glasses, a total nerd. Fanboys very hard when he meets all the famous trainers from around the world at the school. Awkward, but friendly and fairly extroverted.
Ultra!Selene: 11. Appears for a couple episodes after falling through a wormhole during a climactic arc. Extroverted but still grouchy: cue bickering between the two Selenes. (Best buds by the end of it, though)
Calem: 14. Very into photography. Gets along with pretty much everyone, a bit of a teacher’s pet. Probably gets along so well because he’s completely oblivious to rude remarks (or he’s just very good at ignoring them). Math tutor.
Serena: 14. Takes fashion incredibly seriously, almost always trying a new hairstyle. Gets into a rivalry with Hilda over Best Look. Often a bit too outspoken. Athletic, but secretly a huge book/poetry nerd.
Rosa: 15. Pretty much a 90s magical girl protagonist. Excitable, loves sweets and baking, very optimistic. Tries to hide how sensitive she is. Sees the best in everyone and gets crushes very easily. Struggles with classwork. Also athletic.
Nate: 15. Big into swimming and water sports, very excited to be in Alola. Fast friends with Elio after they keep hanging out at the beach. Does a lot of community service/environmental protection work. High-key flirt.
Ethan: 16. Nervous. Laughs easily. Good with kids, loves taking care of baby pokemon. Struggles with math and reading, but enjoys arts and some science. Loves comics/manga. Good at skateboarding. Lucas helps him with math.
Hilda: 17. Super punk. Tries to act cool to control her short temper, but not always good at it. Stubborn and sometimes distant. Secretly loves cute things. Tired of Serena getting in her face. Rosa and Dawn are her closest friends.
Dawn: 17. Quiet, kind of shy. Usually looks tired. Absolutely hates the hot Alolan weather. Bad at physical activities. Loves to read and write, quite a space cadet. Somehow good friends with Serena (it’s the books).
Lucas: 17. Stubborn and calculative. Fairly friendly, but often elusive. Needs glasses to read. Loves sciences and geeks out around Professor Kukui. Hates the hot weather too, and is very outspoken about it. Easily flustered.
Lyra: 17. Joker. Not particularly good at sports, but competitive. Loves video games. Not down for school classes, but went to meet all the trainers and fight them. Ready to defend Ethan with her life. Lives off spite.
Hilbert: 19. Came to the school to look for his little sister, Hilda, who ran away awhile back to look for N. Regularly studies art, so became assistant in the art class. Hangs out with Mina and Ilima to do art often. Grade A good big bro.
Red: 20. Nonverbal. Teaches kids about Pokemon training. Nervous and easily flustered, bad at controlling the kids and they honestly get whatever they want out of him. The kids usually geek out and love him, though.
Green: 20. Super energetic. Puts on a big show for the kids. Easily offended. Communicates for Red. Also teaches training. Better control over the students, but they tease him more. Kukui thinks he’s more trouble than the kids.
Leaf: 21. Shows up later and startles Green, but Red is unsurprised. She’s there to see her cousin Red, since she hadn’t seen him in a while due to her work as a baseball player.  She’s 60% of Red and Green’s impulse control.
May: 21. Fiery and energetic in battle, more calm outside of it. Maintains a tomboyish charm while acting as mature as possible. Can be a bit temperamental. Low-key doesn’t know how to deal with the kids.
Brendan: 21. Thinks he’s super manly, does lots of muscle building. Dad joke central. Protective and worried about the kids. Purposely plays games with the kids to loose dramatically. Trying and failing to propose to May is a running gag.
N: 22. Hilbert brought him there. Overjoyed to see Rosa and Hilda, hangs with them a lot. Highkey intimidated by the teachers. Everyone wants him to play on their basketball team. No one wants him to explain their math work.
