The great mufassir Imam Muhammad ibn Jarir al-Tabari [rahimahullah] included the following statement in his tafseer of surah at-Tawbah:
… Hajjaj ibn Abi Zaynab said: I heard Abu 'Uthman say: In my opinion, there is not a single aayah in the Qur'an that gives more hope for this ummah than Allah's statement:
🌺 ❛And there are others who have acknowledged their sins. They had mixed a righteous deed with another that was bad. Perhaps Allah will turn to them in forgiveness. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.❜ (Q9:102)

Pretty fitting that on this evening which happens to be the eve of Ramadan, I showed my father the children’s book of explained Qur’an surahs I used years ago back when I took Qur’an lessons alongside my cousins, and he absolutely loved it and spent a long time teaching me about some surahs, such as the ones I remember learning about back then (including الزلزلة,الكوثر ,الفيل and القدر).

While I was looking into Fulla dolls, I found out another Muslim fashion doll was released around the same time!
Tumblr media
Meet Razanne! (And be prepared for a loooooong deep dive under the Keep Reading lol)
From what I've been able to piece together from various sources, she was created by Palestinian-American Ammar Saadeh and his wife Noor in 1996, being initially launched through the internet before more publicly advertised to Middle-Eastern and American audiences in 2004. Their goal was to show Muslim girls that "what matters is what's inside you, not how you look" (quoted from an interview with Greensoboro News and Record). They wanted to give them a role model with an emphasis on education and religion, while also having a career! To reflect the diversity of the global Muslim ummah, each of her dolls came in three variants: Pakistani-Indian (olive skin w/ dark hair), Black (dark skin w/ dark hair), and Caucasian (fair skin w/ fair hair).
While unfortunately she's no longer in production, the WayBack machine has a record of all her dolls released through the Noorart website! Each doll listing also includes additional information to educate on Islamic culture!
Tumblr media
First there's Schoolgirl Razanne, whose listing reads:
"Razanne loves school and is all ready with her bright red book bag to join her friends in class. For your information…Traditional uniforms are worn by schoolgirls in Islamic schools. In addition to the usual subjects, students also study the Arabic language and the Qur'an - the Muslim Holy Book."
Tumblr media
Next we have Teacher Razanne, whose listing reads:
"What is a more honorable and specialized career than education? Our teacher Razanne comes full equipped with lap top computer, briefcase and all the necessary items for school. For your information... Many Muslim girls study to become educators. Two-piece suits with jacket and skirt are popular styles for Muslim women who work outside the home as teachers or other professionals."
Tumblr media
There's Playday Razanne, who unlike the prior two came with no accessories, her listing reads:
"Dressing modestly doesn't keep Razanne from having fun! On the playground, Razanne plays in her scarf and a loose fitting jumper that gives her lots of room to run and jump. For your information... Dressing modestly doesn't prevent Muslim girls from having fun outdoors! Whether biking, skating, on the playground or at the park children manage to have fun no matter where they are!"
Tumblr media
We also have a Muslim Scout Razanne, who came with a free audiotape of Muslim Scout Cheers and a preview of We Love Muhammad! Her listing reads:
"'I'm honest, kind and trustworthy.' Muslim Scouts' organizations all over the world help build character and skills for success in this life and the next. Razanne wears her merit badges and awards earned for community service, Islamic behavior and Qur'an memorization. Respect for Allah, parents and all members of the community are a top priority with Razanne. For your information…like all Scout troops, Muslim Scouts are encouraged to excel in personal attributes such as honesty, cooperation and leadership as well as taking an active part in community service and environmental protection."
Tumblr media
Next up there's Eid Mubarak Razanne, which came two different color variants for her outfit, her listing reading:
"Razanne is all ready to celebrate the Muslim holiday. Dressed in her new floral fashions of pink or blue, Razanne has Eid cards addressed to all her friends and is ready to deocorate the party with balloons. The perfect Eid gift for any girl! For your information… Muslims celebrate two major festivals each year. One is the Eid Al Fitr following the month-long fast of Ramadan. A second holiday occurs during the annual Pilgrimage to Makkah. Children and adults look forward to these two special days with great anticipation. Before the Eid the entire family goes out shopping for new clothes to wear for Eid Day. Early Eid morning the family meets with other members of the community for an Eid Prayer then disperse to family gatherings and other celebrations. Children are often given gifts of toys or money and families exchange delectable sweets that differ according to the region in which they live. Muslims exchange greetings of Eid Mubarak,"Eid Congratulations", Eid Saeed, "Happy Eid" and wish each other a coming year full of God's blessings. Kul 'am wa anta bi khair!"
Tumblr media
I wasn't able to find any other images for Prayer Razanne like the others unfortunately, and apparently she came with accessories too! Her listing reads:
"Allahu Akbar! God is the Greatest! It's time to pray and Razanne is ready! When it's time for prayer, many Muslim girls cover their everyday clothes with these traditional two-piece garments and stand to pray on colorful prayer rugs. We receive so many letters from customers that tell us that Razanne usually joins the family for salah! For your information… when it's time for prayer, many Muslim girls cover their everyday clothes with these traditional two-piece garments and stand to pray on colorful prayer rugs. Muslim women may pray in congregation at the Mosque but it is often more convenient to pray the five daily prayers at home."
Tumblr media
And finally we have In And Out Razanne, whose listing reads:
"In and Out Razanne comes with a two-piece fashion set for wear inside and outside the home. At home Razanne loves to dress in all the latest fashions. In a minute she can be ready to go out with this traditional jilbaab coat. Razanne helps Muslim girls understand that in the home they can be the ultimate fashion statement yet still have attractive attire while dressing modestly outside the home. For your information…Razanne helps Muslim girls understand that in the home they can be the ultimate fashion statement yet still have attractive attire while dressing modestly outside the home."
I'm honestly so glad I found this, because doing research into this doll has been a blast! I love the vintage vibes of her outfits with the patterns and color choices, and it makes me really happy seeing this doll being used as an educational tool for Islamic culture and practices!
Thank you to limbedolls.blogspot.com, emel.com, Greensboro News and Record, and "Framing Muslims" by Peter Morey and Amina Yaqin for the information that went into this long-ass post!
Ramadan Kareem!

March 25, 2024 - Sunday  | Ramadan Challenge 15/30
Day 15: islamic lecture series / podcast / book recommendations:
Lecture series: 1, Moments of the Qur'an (Miftaah Institute) - A month-long discussion every Ramadan about each Juz. I love it because the imam and mufti are actual brothers lol and they banter in a way only siblings can. Also It's very very reflective and makes you think of things in ways you haven't before. All the brothers are also great models of brotherhood and treating parents properly. I learn a lot from them. 2. Seerah of the Prophet by Yasir Qadhi - The best thing about this is that he brings out every single opinion that exists from the scholars. You really get to know the prophet as a person as opposed to just learning a bunch of events like you might do from a book. Honestly this series changed my life and gave me such a connection with the prophet. Before this, I had always wondered how ppl felt such personal love toward him. Honestly I also love it because it's like storytime lol I love hearing stories
Book: 3. In the Early Hours (By Khurram Murad) - This book is great honestly. It's not dense like many informational islamic literature tends to be. It wastes no time and speaks directly to you and unveils the truth of life and how to succeed to you lol. This is one of my fave quotes:
"Indeed the one who is unsure of his destiny in life, torn between this world and the next, like one standing with his feet in two separate boats, will be thrown off balance."
It's a great book for people who have decided to begin a journey to improve themselves Islamically. Usually those types of books are full of boring basics but this book is full of so many profound quotable things I def recommend it 10/10.

ALLAH IS THE ANSWER DONT TRUST SHAYTAN🙏🏿💜💗
Kid, I admire your dedication to your faith, but you need to stop. I don't think you realise that you're actually just driving people away from your religion with what you're doing here. I understand it's what you've been taught to do though.
I'm actually just finishing up on reading the Qur'an again at the moment and this kind of treatment is really off-putting and impacting my reflection of the text. The toxic "us and them" mentality that's scattered all throughout that book and displayed by the Muslim community is something that just isn't resonating with me at all.
You have every right to think you're better than me, that's totally fine, but don't drag me into the conversation on why you're better than me. I don't care. Leave the judgement to the higher powers.

Care to read something truly amazing?
When Allah speaks about our pursuit of worldly matters, He uses the term, فَامْشُوا / “Walk” (Al-Qur'an, Surah 67, Ayah 15)
When speaking about our pursuit of Salaah, Allah uses the
term, فَاسْعَوْا / “Proceed” (Al-Qur'an, Surah 62, Ayah 9)
When speaking about our pursuit of Paradise, He uses the
term, سَابِقُوا / “Race!” (Al-Qur'an. Surah 57, Ayah 21)
But, when speaking about our pursuit of Him, Allah uses the term, فَفِرُّوا / “Flee!” (Al-Qur'an, Surah 51, Ayah 50)
Not every ambition in life deserves the same amount of effort.
With the above said, consider your own life, your own aspirations and what you invest most time in.
Is the above an accurate reflection of us?
Or have we flipped this Qur'anic standard upside down, where we ‘walk’ towards Allah, but ‘flee’ towards everything other than Him?
Let your slogan in life be the words of Prophet Musa PBUH who said,
وَعَجِلْتُ إِلَيْكَ رَبِّ لِتَرْضَى
“ .. and I *rush* to You, my Lord, so that You be pleased.”
(Al-Qur'an, Surah 20, Ayah 84)

Allah most high Says,
Do you not consider how God has created seven heavens in layers, and made the moon therein a [reflected] light and made the sun a burning lamp? And God has caused you to grow from the earth a [progressive] growth, then He will return you into it and extract you [another] extraction.

Then do they not reflect upon the Qur'an? If it had been from [any] other than Allah, they would have found within it much contradiction.

Allah mentions the story of Prophet Adam ‘alayhis-salaam and Iblis in several places in the Qur’an. They both fell due to their mistakes; the fall of one of them was temporary, but the other fell to a much different and greater degree, and continues to fall until the end of time. From this, we learn two reasons on how a person can turn away from guidance: Desire, and Kibr (Arrogance).
In the case of the temporary slip of Prophet Adam, it was due to his simple desire. If we let our desires get the best of us, for example if we put dunya as our main focus in life, we will miss out on Allah’s guidance.
But in the case of Iblis, it was his kibr. And when a person suffers the disease of kibr, he will find it much harder to return and repent to Allah. For Iblis, it was his destructive characteristic of arrogance that has caused him to permanently turn away from guidance.
🌟 Sufyan ibn 'Uyaynah rahimahullah said: ❛He whose sin is due to desires [al-shahwah], then have hope for him; and he whose sin is due to pride [al-kibr], then fear for him. For verily Adam sinned due to desires, and he was forgiven; and Iblis sinned due to pride, and he was cursed.❜ [Siyar A'lam al-Nubalaa' 8/462 | Translated by Tulayhah Blog]
🌟 And Rasulullah salla Allahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said: ❛No one, who has an atom's weight of arrogance in his heart, will enter Jannah.❜ A man asked: ❛But a man likes to have nice clothes and nice shoes.❜ Rasulullah ﷺ said: ❛Verily, Allah is beautiful and He loves beauty. Arrogance is to disregard the Truth, and to look down upon people.❜ [Sahih Muslim 91a]
We can’t even see an atom with our eyes, yet this much weight of arrogance is extremely heavy in the Sight of our Rabb. May Allah protect us from both kibr and following our evil desires, and enter us into Jannah.

THEOLOGY
ABRAHAMIC RELIGIONS ->
THE THREE MAJOR ABRAHAMIC RELIGIONS are, in order of appearance, JUDAISM, CHRISTIANITY, and ISLAM, but there are other MINOR RELIGIONS.
Tumblr media
■JUDAISM is an Abrahamic monotheistic religion based on the covenant shared between God and Abraham.
The holy scriptures of JUDAISM are called the TANAKH, after the first letters of its three parts in the Jewish tradition. T: TORAH, the Teaching of Moses, the first five books. N: NEVI'IM, the books of the prophets. KH: KETUVIM, for the Writings, which include the psalms and literature for the wise.
ORTHODOX JUDAISM is the belief in a strict interpretation of Jewish law, which should be grounded in the Torah. As such, the revelation given to Moses from God on Mount Sinai is made glorious and just.
CONSERVATIVE JUDAISM is the belief in marriage and membership as a Jew. Other characteristics will include support of the Zionist movement and the rejection of the immutability of the "Torah" and the "Talmud" while still having faith in the eternal truth upon which it is based.
REFORM JUDAISM is the belief of the renewal in our living Covenant with God, the people of Israel, humankind, and the earth by acknowledging the holiness present throughout creation – in ourself, in each other, and in the world at large – through practice that will include reflection, study, worship, ritual, and much more.
Tumblr media
■CHRISTIANITY is an Abrahamic monotheistic religion centered around the birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
THE BIBLE is the holy scripture of the Christian religion, purporting to tell the history of the Earth from its earliest creation to the spread of Christianity in the first century A.D. Both the Old Testament and the New Testament have undergone changes over the centuries.
□ROMAN CATHOLICISM
Roman catholicism is a branch of Christianity which has its belief about the sacraments, the role of the Bible and tradition, the importance of the Virgin Mary and the saints, and the papacy.
HISTORY OF THE REFORMATION
THE REFORMATION was a reform movement in religious belief that swept through Europe in the 16th century. It caused the creation of a branch of Christianity called PROTESTANTISM, a name used collectively to refer to the many religious groups that separated from the Roman Catholic Church due to their difference in doctrine.
□PROTESTANTISM
Protestantism is a branch of Christianity which will deny the universal authority of the Pope and affirm all of the Reformation principles of justification by faith alone, the priesthood available to any practitioner, and the Bible as the only source of revealed truth.
□QUAKERISM
Quakerism is a branch of Protestantism

■ISLAM is an Abrahamic monotheistic religion that was revealed to Muhammad, a prophet of Allah, and written down in the Qur'an years later by his followers.
SUNNI
Muhammad did not specifically appoint a successor to lead the Ummah before his death. This sect did, however, approve of the private election of the first companion, Abū Bakr. In addition to the previous mentioned, Umar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb, ʿUthmān ibn ʿAffān, and ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib are also accepted as al-Khulafāʾ ur-Rāshidūn. After this, they believe that Muhammad intended that the Muslim community choose a successor, or caliph, by consensus. A practitioner of this sect will base their religion on the Quran and the Sunnah as understood by the majority of the community under the structure of the four schools of thought. These are HANAFI, MALIKI, SHAFI'I and the HANBALI.
SHI'A
Muhammad's family, the Ahl al-Bayt, including all of his descendants, have distinguished spiritual and political authority over the community. It is believed that Alī ibn Abī Ṭālib was the first of these descendants and the rightful successor to Muhammad. As a result, it was rejected that the first three Rāshidūn caliphs have legitimacy.

ETHICAL RELIGIONS ->
THE THREE MAJOR ETHICAL RELIGIONS are BUDDHISM, TAOISM, AND CONFUCIANISM.
Tumblr media
■BUDDHISM is an ethical religion that was revealed by Siddhartha Gautama for anyone to gain spiritual enlightenment if that person followed the eight-folded path along with a personal commitment to any noble truth given to him/her through the journey of life in order to reach nirvana.

Azrael
"Archangel Azrael, the angel of transformation and an angel of death in Islam, means "helper of God". Azrael helps living people navigate the changes in their lives. He helps dying people make the transition from the earthly dimension to heaven and comforts people who are grieving the death of a loved one. Its light energy color is pale yellow."
"In art, Azrael is often depicted wielding a sword or scythe, or wearing a cowl, as these symbols represent his role as the angel of death reminiscent of the Grim Reaper of popular culture."
"Islamic tradition says that Azrael is the angel of death, although, in the Qur'an, he is referred to by his role "Malak al-Maut" (which literally means "angel of death") and not by his name. The Qur'an describes that the angel of death does not know when it is time for each person to die until God reveals this information to him, and by God's order, the angel of death separates the soul from the body and returns it to God."
"Azrael also serves as the angel of death in Sikhism. In the Sikh scriptures written by Guru Nanak Dev Ji, God (Waheguru) sends Azrael only to people who are unfaithful and unrepentant for their sins. Azrael appears on Earth in human form and strikes sinners over the head with his scythe to kill them and extract their souls from their bodies. Then he takes their souls to Hell and makes sure they get the punishment Waheguru enacts once he judges them."
"However, the Zohar (the holy book of Judaism called Kabbalah), presents a nicer representation of Azrael. The Zohar says that Azrael receives the prayers of the faithful when they reach heaven and also commands legions of heavenly angels."
"Although Azrael is not mentioned as the angel of death in any Christian religious texts, some Christians associate him with death because of his link to the Grim Reaper of popular culture. Additionally, ancient Asian traditions sometimes describe Azrael holding an apple from a "Tree of Life" to the nose of a dying person to separate that person's soul from their body."
"Some Jewish mystics consider Azrael to be a fallen angel—or demon—who is the embodiment of evil. Islamic tradition describes Azrael as being completely covered with eyes and tongues, and the number of eyes and tongues constantly changes to reflect the number of people who are currently alive on Earth. Azrael keeps track of the number by writing people's names in a celestial book when they are born and erasing their names when they die, in accordance with Islamic tradition. Azrael is considered the patron angel of clergy and grief counselors who help people make peace with God before they die and minister to the bereaved that the dying have left behind."

salaam do you have any tips for quran journaling? i want to start one but i'm not sure how to.
wa alaikum salaam. here's a picture of my opening page. (don't mind my arabic writing it's not my first language at all😭).
some things that help me:
starting with the shorter surahs/chapters in the Qur'an, reading the commentary and english translation
then tafseer (understanding) - writing down the context, reasons for revelation, theme of the surah and what it means
then tadabbur (reflection) - having set questions, for example: 1. what is Allah trying to say in this surah? what does He want me to do? 2. how is this surah relevant to me? 3. is there anything i can change in my life, worship, relationships, heart etc from this?
i just have a basic journal and I just write all of that down. I just write down the surah heading at the top and begin :)
