Practical Benefits of Creative Writing if You Need Some Motivation
Writing stories isn't just a hobby. It's a practice that sharpens so many skills. You'll use these skills all your life, so write that silly idea and let's start refining these talents that come from our work:
(Psst—this is where you should open that copy of your resume if you're also applying for jobs!)
Communication: You know how to use words to convey complex and simple ideas.
Emotional identification (for personal benefit, not so much standard careers): You'd be surprised how many people can't name or describe their emotions, much less make them something others can feel.
Thematic analyzation: You can find or create a common thread between wildly different people.
Community building: You can bring people together by making them feel things deeply.
Perspective shaping: You make others try on new perspectives through your characters and their challenge, which also points back to your communication skills.
Encouragement: You know how to make other people dream through your work.
Empathy: You remind readers they aren't alone in their experiences—we are all going through different versions of pain together.
Typing: Let's be real, every boss will think you're amazing if you can type with more than two fingers at a time (or with two fingers really fast!).
Time management: You're always finding ways to fit your writing into your schedule, even if it's only once a month.
Commitment: because that 100,000-word fanfic won't just appear on paper because you daydreamed about it.
Self-reliance: When you set a goal to write a story, you (mostly) finish it. All on your own!
A willingness to learn: Your editing and revising work keeps you open to growth opportunities, which is essential to being a good person/team member/employee.
Organization: Those folders with all your story ideas, character outlines, and plot arcs? That's a skill, my friend.
Creativity: You're in touch with your creative instincts, which brings vision to projects and team efforts that produce better results

CV / Resume Help for beginners
Tumblr media
I think I might make a post about making your CV / Resume for tech jobs if you have little to no experience!
You done the learning, the bootcamps, going through tutorials, created projects and put them up on your GitHub account but now you want a job! But crap, your CV / Resume is either a mess or you have no idea what to put on it to apply for tech developer jobs!
During my coding night class, the teacher offered help on it and sadly I can't share the resources he shown BUT I'll make my own resource and help others here!

Why are resumes are hard to create…I'm just genuinely bad at writing resumes.
I feel. with more details I could help you directly but here's my advice:
For people with NO work experience:
List academics/extra curriculars, and anything related to community service. If you're a high schooler or fresh out of high school list different chores or things you did to help around the house. Did you help cook and watch your siblings? Congrats, you have a certain number of years as an experienced caregiver. Did you mow your lawn or rake up leaves? Congrats, you are experienced in landscape keeping. Have you ever held a leadership position in anything? Include that.
What activities do you do for fun? Do you play D&D? Include that under 'Regular Group Brainstorming and Community Skill Building" and if they ask for more details, explain that you meet with a group of friends once a week to run through problem/solution scenarios and roleplay how you'd solve those problems. Do you go swimming or do sports? Say you regularly exercise and focus on maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
With high school extra curriculars, list three that might be relevant to your job application. If you're applying to work in the food industry then Home Economics/cooking classes will look good on a resume. If you took any extra language courses, that's a plus because you are able to help with language barriers in a way that meets customer needs.
If you're in high school, TAKE EXTRA CIRRICULARS IF THEY'RE OFFERED. If they aren't, look online to see if there are any public clubs or activities that can help you build those skills.
The next thing I would recommend is to look into getting certifications or licensing in different fields and specialized jobs, as that can pay higher if you're more qualified. Certification can help if you don't have as many years in that field.
For people with Work Experience:
Listing the above depending on your age. I feel like after 23 or 24, you shouldn't be listing high school related things unless specifically requested. Instead list college majors, courses, minors, and community courses you've taken. List soft skills. For example, I'm not fluent in Bokmal yet, but I'm actively learning it. Developing a skill and providing evidence that you're working on it appeals to employers.
When you have time off, volunteer or find small projects on the side if you have time for it that will be investments into your future. My last job didn't work out, but I was only able to get my foot in the door because I worked for a smaller Youtuber for free during the pandemic as a project manager. My ability to organize files and do basic data entry appealed to my bosses at the time. Things like that help a lot.
THE BIGGEST THING: A lot of employers for larger companies and corporations use a scanner to read through resumes, so make sure YOURS IS AN EDITABLE PDF and that YOU USE KEY WORDS FROM THE JOB DESCRIPTION IN YOUR RESUME. So, for example:
"This job requires and understanding of Excel, and Pro Create. You'll be expected to create assets in a timely manner and organize your files every day."
Make sure you modify your resume to include the same names of programs, and highlight the words that stick out to you in the job description to add. This will make the system think that you are a better option compared to others. And if your document isn't an editable PDF, the scanner won't be able to read it and your resume could end up being thrown away! Don't include any images or textiles unless requested in the job application. This clutters the resume and makes it difficult for both the machine and the employer who's hiring you to read it. Even if you are applying for an art or design position. They can see your skills from your portfolio, your resume is the information, not the aesthetic presentation. Learned that the hard way.

Does anyone have any tips and/or experience tailoring a resume as you look to change careers? Or more specifically when you are applying for jobs you are way overqualified for?
I have been working almost 15 years in the same profession (one that requires a master's degree) but I am now on my second leave of absence from work due to mental health issues/burnout and I am thinking of just switching to something very different, working part-time and taking some pressure of myself.
But I am struggling with how to adjust my resume.
So, if you have any advice, I would greatly appreciate it.

Looking for a job in your creative field? Here are some helpful tips I’ve learned along the way as a video producer.
- Make sure your resume (cv) stands out. Find your brand and work it into your resume through colors, logo, and font. It’s typically the first thing the recruiter and hiring manager will see so make it a good first impression!
- Your resume should be a PDF! You’re creative and a word document won’t show that off.
- Put your website/portfolio link at the top of your resume and make it clickable and working!! I hate having to search through the resume for that link and it ends up not working or I have to copy and paste it. It might seem silly but it shows the employer that you pay attention to details.
- Working on your portfolio or demo reel? Editing yourself down to your best pieces is key. If you have a 5 minute demo reel I’m scrubbing through it. That sounds harsh but there are probably tons of other demo reels I have to get through.

HOW TO REFORMAT YOUR RESUME TO MAKE IT EASY FOR RECRUITERS TO SEE IT
Your name, email, contact should be at the top.
Poop Poop | phone number | Email
include 3 REFERENCES of people you trust, teachers, colleagues, even online friends, anyone who would vouch for you, and format.
References
Blah Blah | College Of Poop and Farts | Lab Tech [email protected] 3842348394

Education (I recommend putting this next, OR make it the very last thing on your resume.)
Early Graduate Diploma – EebyHS | 2018
Excelled in the Eeby High School Proficiency Exam earning a certificate of diploma prior to most peers in the graduate class.
Experience (notice putting about 2-3 is optimal and fine, if you have none whatsoever, consider volunteer efforts, charity events when you were younger, art clubs you hosted, and consider framing them as Leadership initiatives. Done art commissions? Handling confidential client information and transactions. Pet sitting, helping someone with their homework, babysitting, lawn mowing, anything can be re-framed into buzzword friendly search terms that show you have the diligence and willingness to learn more.)
Job title | Company | Location | Year
Brand Ambassador | Eeby Deeby Programs | Or, Bo | 2019
Utilized PC technology to quickhand troubleshoot technical issues, lead IT support
Camera and photography operations, lead marketing, staging, lighting and merchandising.
IOS maintenance
POS operation lead, customer & client assurance, tendering sales
TIP: What did this company advocate for? What were your goals and what did your work accomplish?
Certified Onboarder | Ourga Bourga | Port, Borba | 2018
Coordinates onboarding & training for new hires to successfully transition into their new roles accordingly and within a timely manner.
Communicates effectively to responsibly manage and maintain workflow between the front of house and kitchen.
Leading to ensure customer satisfaction by managing staff’s ticket fulfillment to company standards and to order.
Go to indeed, create a resume and do their skill assessment tests if you want to add more buff to this, however, first you need to look inward. Have you been online your whole life? Welcome to the first step! your next thing on your resume is your :
Skills
(do a wpm test and put your result)
Windows OS & IOS technology
Microsoft technology
Proficient in Word, Excel, Powerpoint
POS terminals & technology (better way of saying "i was a cashier")
IT support (same thing)
Experience in supervisory, management and training (ever run your own discord? ever recruited for a zine? hosted a re-animated project? No need to say it straight.)
Proficient in marketing, merchandising & staging (AKA: setting up store displays, making sure burgers look Like They're Suppose to, making store aisles clean and products are pulled forward)
(also might help to use indeed, do their resume and their proficiency tests and include those on your resume)
Proficient in OSHA and FDA regulations in food safety control environments (aka i worked foodservice, i have cleaned toilets)
Quality assurance (literally everything ever)
Bonus points if you've worked any place that has access to cleaning products, you can say the following:
Proficient in Ecolab standard protocols.
It's important to consider that recruiters are sifting through hundreds of resumes.
short-term your experience with simple, but BUZZWORD friendly language. Why?
Not only do recruiters want to pick up what you can do Likely within the first few seconds of viewing your application, your application is more likely to be seen by websites like indeed if you use keywords and buzzwords that make your resume relevant to the website's search algorithm.
Sentences are not important. Experience is, and you likely have more than you give yourself credit for. good luck

I have a weird question, and I'm not sure who can help me, so I'm just kind of casting my net here...
I was updating my resume, and one of my jobs was at a Walmart deli. I want to highlight that I made and served food for that fast-food type area where you can order things like fries or general tso's... but I have no idea what the proper name of that is, at Walmart or any deli. If I did know, it's been so long since I've worked there that I've since forgotten.
Does anyone know what this is?
