i do still (occasionally) (also when keith mentions it) think about how noone really interacted with phrygian much outside of their humanoid shape much (room, place, objects etc), and when they did it usually went with a general sense of that being so strange / weird / kind of offputting. and of course part of it is that it's jokes from the cast & saying things like 'i don't want to party inside of you' are just kind of funny, i guess*, and on the other hand (watsonian) i can buy it from the characters who were raised with/under anti-branched propaganda, HOWEVER

ok don't get me wrong, i love the disney+ show and while I haven't enjoyed all of the changes, I have liked or at least understood a majority of them

but i'm so sad that all of the changes pretty much cut out how purely childish and twelve the trio were in the book

i get it makes sense for annabeth and grover to figure out aunty em is medusa and the lotus casino is related to the lotus flowers but I'm so sad it meant sacrificing them being dumbass little kids

Random, but. It’s fascinating how “Valjean and Javert written by someone who thinks cops are Good” is so radically different from “Valjean and Javert written by someone who thinks cops are Bad.”

Like, for me the number one Thing that will determine whether I enjoy someone’s take on Valjean and Javert are whether they realize that the police/prison as an institution destroyed both of their lives, and is the villain of both of their stories XD.

But yeah it’s really fascinating! Both in adaptations and in fanfiction, the tone/interpretation with which the plot beats are handled can change so much about the characterization. All the adaptations/fic start off with the same basic plot beats but so much can be changed and colored (for better or worse) by the way the author chooses to interpret them

#i do want to say that I always think more people in the fandom is fun! #and fanfic is supposed to be whatever self indulgent stuff scratches your id and can’t be held to the same standards as published stuff #I will never tell people what to write! #also I’ve got cringe fanfic on ao3 too (let he who is without cringe cast the first stone etc etc) #so I’d be the WORST person to preach about that XD #(the next part in the tags is a joke don’t come at me) #but— as a lighthearted joke— sometimes to me personally the Les mis fandom feels like #imagine if you’re in the fandom for the new she ra show #and the show’s about the Evil Horde and how it destroys the lives of the two main characters in different ways #but then like? half the fandom insisted on referring to it as the Morally Okay Reformable Horde #and then like. all the catra/adora fanfic ended with Catra realizing she needs to be a Nicer horde soldier #and maybe adora rejoins the horde to and they go off to fight for Justice (which is what the horde does) #and then you were like ‘huh that’s a bit odd’ #‘I thought the point was that the horde poisoned both of their lives and ripped them away from their friends/family’ #‘like I thought the evil horde was evil and stuff’ #and people responded to you ‘why do you hate catra and catradora?’ #and you were like ‘no I love catra! but I thought the whole point was that yknow. she kinda had to leave the evil horde and all’ #‘like her upbringing in the horde had left her with a violent self-destructive authoritarian worldview and all’ #‘and her obsession with being a good horde soldier was not indeed a good admirable thing but sorta pathetic and sad’ #‘and adora was right to leave and hate the horde for what it did to her’ #‘and her flaw was that (like catra) she still internalized a lot of the way it taught her to view herself’ #‘and the whole fun of catradora is the idea of the two of them sorta finally figuring out who they are outside of that abusive system’ #anyway in this metaphor catra is javert adora is Valjean the horde is the police catradora Is valvert XD #this is a goofy metaphor made after hours of homework and is not to be taken too seriously

my paimon age headcanon* is that she is like dave from kipo. she's technically a super old immortal** but also she Is a kid***. i was originally framing it as a phoenix sort of situation but dave from kipo has the same vibes plus like. being a person and not an animal and also being the same person (which, if i likened paimon to a vidyahara a la hsr, would not really be the case) *i flip flop between a few headcanons, namely the seelie one and this sort of phoenixy one. i really like paimon i have so many thoughts about her shes so interesting and sweet and ridiculous **i think the reason her memories are so inconsistent could be erosion at play. sometimes she can remember things and sometimes she is actually a really helpful guide but mostly she doesn't know what is going on and what she can remember seems so random. i also think theres some paimon lore in the wrio story quest so im actually gonna play that one just. not until the finals are done beating me up. so maybe this is all disproven there and i can stop flipflopping ***her interactions with other child characters (klee, diona, qiqi are the big three for this point) are definitely mentorly but in a fellow child sort of manner. she treats them like younger siblings typically. adult characters (albedo is the one i remember the best) often think of her as a child and she hasn't really objected to that, that i've noticed? she gets cranky about being called a pet, or food, or a toy (but still plays along sometimes because being in disguise etc etc, but she is noticeably unenthused about those labels) but i haven't really noticed her get upset about being called a kid. however, she is noticeably more helpful and more advanced than the littler child models. she seems to be similar to nahida (and they get along really well)(i really liked the paimon nahida interactions it always feels like paimon is trying to fit in with adults or babysitting kids but with nahida it felt like they matched better. despite nahida being well,,, a lot smarter). i think nahida is also a technically immortal but also kid sort of situation, but not in the same way as paimon is. nahida reminded me a lot of the aranara, with her reincarnation looking the same yet being someone else, with all the stuff about dreams, etc.. also the aranara are childlike and only knowable to children (and certain people with special circumstances) so . yeah. i think nahida is permanently in that kid but not state and paimon is currently in that kid but not state but i do kind of think paimon hasn't always been a kid, maybe possibly. i do definitely think shes existed for way longer than twenty years. but also shes kiddo.

anyway i love paimon. shes my son. id feel kinda bad for paimon haters cus she is in Every Single Thing except that like if u hate paimon why are u playing the paimon game? just to gamble???

#the reason I love gomens and the flag of death (keeping my lunacy out of the maintags like a boss) is because it is gentle. and kind #and the reason why I avoid shows like the heart stopping one is because I do not need a story of realized queerness and the sudden frenzied #passion that comes with it is because I love a story about love. not just queer sexuality for its own sake (that sounds worse than I meant) #BUT HANNIBAL CAN BE BOTH!!! #because it’s about love and becoming and the metaphor for sexuality is becoming a monster and Other #BECAUSE WHAT GAY PERSON HASNT FELT LIKE THIS WHEN THEY REALIZE HOW FUNDAMENTALLY DIFFERENT THEY ARE!!!!!?!!!?! #and it is passionate but it has a gentleness that matches my other old queers in love shows #crazy of me to say but I think the lack of sex scenes in HANNIBAL ENHANCES THE PASSION IN A WAY IT DOESNT FOR TEEN DRAMAS. #teen dramas are v important too but there has to be more than being queer and in love than that yknow? #and that’s really all a lot of straight people see gay men as which is sad #it’s based on a stereotype that while true in some instances has definitely dehumanized gay men in their eyes #not to say sex is bad because it’s not!!!!!! #it’s wonderful!!!! but it doesn’t have to be a pageant every time in every show depicting young hot gay men #I lost my thread goddamn. #tldr; I love my gentle shows depicting queer love stories earnestly… but I love passion IN A VIOLENT FORMAT #that’s how I felt as a kid trying to find my footing yknow???
