Sweet Lies
When you find out your boyfriend of three years is cheating on you, you don’t confront him. Instead, you get back at him by fucking the man he hated the most; Sasuke Uchiha.

Normally when someone finds out their lover is cheating on them, they confront them. They hold up the pictures, videos, and text messages and scream at them. They demand answers and it usually ends with someone crying. You, on the other hand, did none of those things. Instead, you pretended as if you knew nothing. You pretended that you didn’t smell the sweet scent of another woman’s perfume. You ignored the stray pink hairs on his coat and the lipstick stain on the collar of his dress shirt.
You memorized the text messages and watched the videos again and again as he laid in bed next to you. You knew. You knew Naruto Uzamaki, the man you loved for three years had replaced you with a pink haired woman. The very woman he swore he did not love anymore. Sakura Haruno. Snorting, you sipped on your wine as you glanced down at yet another video he saved on his phone. The same video you had saved to your laptop. In the video, Naruto had her by the hips. Loud, lustful moans filling the air as he told her to moan and beg him to keep going. Blonde hair stuck to his cheeks as he buried himself in the petite woman under him.
“Mnn…Naruto! Ah! AH! Please…mmhp….don’t stop!” Sakura’s voice filled your headphones and you paused the video. Looking up at the clock on the wall, the time read 3:05 am. Naruto said he’d be home by ten.
A sad chuckle bubbled up from your throat and you closed down the video. You should be crying. You should be angry. You should be tossing all of his shit into a big pile on the front lawn and watch as it burns. Even if you did all that, it wouldn’t be enough. You wanted him to hurt. You wanted him to feel sick to his stomach. You had confinded in your closes friends Temari and Hinata about Naruto’s unfaithfulness and they both argeed that you should have said something to him. Confrontng him wouldn’t make you feel better. But you knew what would.
It was no secret that Naruto hated Sasuke Uchiha. There was just something about the dark haired male that lit a fire inside your boyfriend. The story was the two were “rivals” during their time in high school-if you could call Sasuke getting top marks while Naruto had to attend summer school a rivalry. Either way, the two boys did not like each other. Although it seemed Sasuke paid the loud blonde no mind. Sasuke harbored no ill will towards Naruto. Now you would simply give him another reason to hate him.
And that’s how you found yourself standing outside Sasuke’s lavish penthouse. You would thank Temari for giving you the chance to get in contact with the younger Uchiha sibling. The door opened and he looked you over silently. Deep inky eyes slowly roamed over you. From the top of your head where your braids sat in a high bun, to the deep purple choker around your neck, and the matching dress with a sweetheart neckline. The black heels on your feet complete with a cute anklet. Sasuke dressed in a white button up and black slacks, stepped aside so you could come in. Nervously, you sat across from him as you swirled the bourbon in your glass. You hastily explained to him why you wanted to see him and why you needed his help. Once done, you finished your drink as if it were a shot and set the glass down on the coffee table. Silence filled the air, and you fidget on the lush sofa.
“This was probably a dumb idea. You know what….just forget it. Forget I said it. This was stupid.” You begin to rise from your seat and Sasuke does the same.
He walks over to you and looks down at you.
“Are you sure about this?” Comes his reply.
Your eyes slightly go wide before you steel yourself and nod. “Yes. If I wasn’t sure. I wouldn’t have come here.” That seemed to be enough for him as he pulls you to him and gently places his lips over yours.
Two. Three. Maybe four rounds later you find yourself, face down in his bed. Sasuke’s hands gripping one hip as the other holds your phone in hand to record. Lewd noises come from your mouth as he hits that one spot that makes you see stars.
“Fuck!~ Sasuke!” You scream tears filling your eyes as he pounds you into the mattress. His grunts loud as he taunts Naruto.
“Damn..mn..Naruto. I knew you were dumb but I didn’t think you were this dumb. Shit! You let a woman like this go? Awww baby don’t go quiet now. Let him know how good I make you feel. Let him know since he wasn’t doing a good job! Use. Your. Words.” Each word punctured by a hard thrust inside you.
You grip the sheets eyes rolling into your head as you try to form words. How could you? “S….Sasuke…please. Please! It’s so good. So fucking good!” You shout thankful that his place was on the top floor which meant no one could hear you.
“Good girl. You hear that Naruto? You hear how cute she sounds? It’s a damn shame baby. This cute little body was being ignored because he’s too busy fucking someone else. Don’t worry. I’ll make you feel better.”
You cried out as he smacked your ass hard, gripping the flesh of your ass in his hands. His thrusts never slowing as he leaned down to kiss the space between your shoulder blades.
“You gonna cum again baby?” Sasuke asked you. You nod, whimpering. You hear him scoff and he pulls back only to slam in hard.
“Baby use your words. I want to hear you say it.” He coos and you hear the smile in his voice.
“Yes! Yes I’m gonna cum!” Your reward is another kiss and moves the phone in front of the two of you. Eyes blurry from tears and cum, you see your face and his in the screen. Sasuke smirks and drops a kiss on your shoulder. It’s so fucked up. But so hot. Sasuke’s firm frame against your plush one. Gods the man can fuck.
“Don’t worry Naruto. I’ll take good care of her since you’re preoccupied with someone else. “ Sasuke’s smirk forms into a full devilish grin and you wonder if you just made a deal with a devil. He looks to you as he feels your walls squeeze around him and he pulls you close with his hand. “That’s it. Cum for me baby. Cum all over this dick again. Make a mess.” He murmurs and that’s all you need to go over the edge. You scream his name as you cum from yet another earth shattering orgasm and you feel him fill you up. Sasuke ends the video with a laugh and he gently pulls out of you. Your body goes limp on the mattress as you hear the sound of running water. Sasuke returns with a rag and begins to clean you up. His movements are gentle and your finger hovers above the text message.
Again, he asks you, “Are you sure?” You look down at him and pull him up towards you. You press a kiss against his lips and his cheek.
“I’m sure. I can’t spare his feelings. He didn’t spare mine.” You send the video to Naruto and place the phone on the nightstand. Sasuke lays next to you and you curl up beside him. The loud chime of your ringtone goes off and so does Sasuke’s. He grabs his phone and you see Sakura’s name on the caller ID. You tense.
“Wait. Sasuke was Sakura your girlfriend?” You ask him and he nods silently. He too tosses his phone onto the nightstand before his lips claim yours again.
“She didn’t spare mine either.” He mutters and you wrap your arms around his neck. Your lips find his again as his touch drowns out the shrill ringing of your phones, and you let him bring you over the edge once more.

Mean!Sasuke w/thigh reading.
"C'mon, you can do better y/n." Sasuke muttered, his eyes pinned on you as you grinded against his thigh. Tears dripping from your chin, as your gripped onto his leg, steadying yourself.
Such an odd way how you ended up on his leg and in Naruto's office at that. For almost the entire day, you had been teasing Sasuke by flirting with Naruto; not only had the yellow haired man oblivious to your advances but he groveled in all of them sent his way and poor Sasuke was there to witness all of it. His jaw clenched as he heard the back and forth between you and Naruto. The sickening laughter and friendly banter between the two of you or the way your finger glided against Naruto's arm.
Sasuke had enough and was so close to bending you over the table right in front of Naruto to show him who you belonged to. "Some of the villagers are in need of your assistance Hokage." Sasuke murmured, quickly catching Naruto's attention before he hurried out of the office. Once he left the room, Sasuke walked behind the Hokage desk and sat in the chair, legs spread. The room was silent, nothing but the wind blowing through the room as your eyes focused on Sasuke. His face void of any emotions and his eyes not showing you anything. "Lock the door then come to me." Sasuke rasped, no hint of play within his voice.
Maybe you had gone too far with your flirting. When Sasuke was jealous it wasn't any easier on you during sex. Times before you woke up with bruises all over your body and an ache between your legs when you pushed the raven-haired man to close to the edge.
You shuddered once you remembered what had happened the last time you tried to piss him off. With quick strides, you walked over to where he sat, you stood tall between his legs as you looked down at him for his next move. "Sit." Okay maybe he was going to go easy this time. As you hooked your legs around his waist, he pressed a hand on your stomach, stopping you from sitting down fully. You paused in confusion, not understanding what he meant until. "You don't get that privilege to sit on my dick. Get on my thigh." You looked back in shock, expecting him to change his answer but with a pointed look and the raise of an eyebrow, you huffed quietly, moving back until you were on his thigh.
"Ride my thigh y/n. Since you want to like a whore, get off on my thigh like one." he spat, not sparing you another glance as he pulled a paper from the desk to read through. You took initiative and rolled your hips against his thigh, catching a rhythm before speeding up.
After a few minutes, you were close to cumming and Sasuke could see that. The whimper in your voice and the subtle shake in your legs; "Sasuke, he-help mee." you whined, trying to gain his attention so that you could get some sort of release. Placing the paper, he had forsaken long ago on the table, Sasuke looked at you, a wicked smirk and his face. You knew that meant he was up to no good. "Help you? You didn't need my help when you were all over Naruto, now did you?" he asked, already knowing the answer but wanted to hear it from you. You whimpered, trying to get an answer out but the words fell from your mouth in babbles. "I don't understand baby talk. C'mon, you can do better y/n."

a hand reached out for you to grab, you steady yourself getting out of the sleek black audi a8, the setting sun shined bright enough that the light reflected off the vehicle, blinding unsuspecting victims.
you sporting a sleek satin black dress, your wavy ombré 32” bundles flowing down your back, was laid to the gods with an appropriate amount of baby hairs.
your counterpart took in your appearance, checking you out as your smooth brown hand held his, gazing at your ‘acrylic? is that what it’s called?’ nails that he paid to get done in your signature white this time with a cute little design that he thought you got because of him— you did, and your toes the same white with no extra displayed as you strut closer to him in your black saint laurent heels.
"you look absolutely ravishing my dear." he finally speaks in a slight pant as if he was holding his breath— he was, your beauty left him breathless, both your arms now clung to his thick bicep, hands resting on the crease of his elbow as you smiled, showing him your pearly whites. "thank you daddy."
you weren’t subtle with checking him out either, eyes trailing up and down taking in his figure that you didn't get a chance to see earlier. he wore a black silk textured button up with black slacks, paired with some crisp black front laced oxford’s.
his long lustrous dark brown hair was styled in a manbun, hooded monolid pale green eyes, that always seemed like he was judging you cuz he probably was, showed he wasn’t to be messed with, the scars on his face and the visible ones on his neck, arms and wrists just adding to the fact.
"you’re looking too fine yourself, might have to hide you from other women." he smirks at your little show of possessiveness as you head to reception. "no one, other than you, is worthy of my time."
you pat his arm softly giggling before a bored voice interjects your laughter. "do you have a reservation or are you walking in?" a messy redhead with glasses now attracting your attention, her eyes the same shade as her hair, gold plated name tag read ‘karin’, making you hum to yourself.
"reservation. under the name kakuzu." she found the name and began leading you both to your table, a secluded area on the second floor overlooking the quaint plaza, it was an obvious date spot.
you gasp in awe at the orange pinkish hues of the sunset making the setting more romantic. "thank you." you thanked the receptionist who smiled at your kindness, "it's no problem the waiter should be a few minutes. enjoy your time." she says leaving the open area.
kakuzu led you to the rounded table, pulling out your chair, waiting til you sat down to push it under the table. "thank you too, kakuzu. you didn't have to do all this." your hand waving around referring to the empty space, except for you two of course, that he clearly rented out.
he scoffed at your modesty. "I do this because I want to-" he reached across the table and held your hand, placing a kiss on your wrist, then the back of your hand, and then your knuckles.
"—spoil you cause I want to. you can have whatever you want it's all yours if you say the word." you smile at him, a few minutes pass by as you both continue small conversations looking over the menus that were placed down before you came, until you're cut off by the sound of someone clearing their throat.
"good afternoon, my name is sasuke I'll be your server for tonight. do you have your orders ready?" a tall, pale, shaggy haired boy that seemed about a year or two older than you, huffing as he asked dryly. you glance at him from the corner of your eye letting his rudeness slide, ‘maybe he’s just having a tough day.’
you waited for kakuzu to order first before the server looked at you, waiting for your request, something you noticed he did quite a lot in the short time span he's been in front of you and your partner.
"and for the pretty lady?" you let out a nervous laugh seeing kakuzu's face hardening, you cleared your throat before proceeding to order your food. "I love a woman that can eat." you watch his eyes drift further down than they were supposed to, not just for checking out another man’s woman, but as a working employee.
you stayed silent until he left with the promise that y’all’s food will be done shortly. the loud thudding of kakuzu’s fist hitting the table startled you. he tsked, balled up fist clenching on top of the table. "that fucking brat." you hummed, completely in agreement. "literally… he has no damn manners, looking at me and flirting like I'm not sitting right in front of you."
you sigh cooling down reaching across the table to hold his hand, you unball his fist slipping your manicured hand into his rough ones, the size incomparable to yours. "it doesn't matter let's just enjoy the rest of tonight. it’s just us…and it’s just for us." kakuzu huffed, watching you pout. "fine but I don't promise that I won't kick his ass." you laugh rubbing his knuckle with your thumb, watching as he pulled out his phone with his other hand, the tapping of his thumb hitting the screen making you furrow your eyebrows in confusion, before putting the phone back in his pocket.
he smiled at you shaking his head, a good couple of minutes go by the both of just you talking about nothing and everything, a few laughs and subtle jokes floating around in the air. the young waiter rolled a metal cart in the room with trays on top, setting the food in front of you both. "thank you." you both thank the boy.
"no problem pretty lady, just call for me if you need anything." he glanced over your body once more before winking and walked away entirely disregarding kakuzu’s gratitude, once again disrespecting you both. "all right I've had enough of this. my appetite's gone to shit and I'm ready to murder the little emo fuck." your burst of laughter caught kakuzu off guard, making him squint his eyes at you.
"is my anger entertainment for you, brat?" you calm down your fit of laughter, waving your hand back and forth before responding. "of course not daddy k. how ‘bout we take our dinner to go and get some ice cream?" "I wanted to bring you to my favorite restaurant for a reason but fine. I don't think I can stand being here any longer anyway." he grabbed your hand placing a f/c, 14 karat, princess cut ring on your ring finger.
"it's just a promise ring for now." you gasp getting up to sit in his lap, peppering his face with kisses, the moment was short lived when the clearing of someone's throat once again interrupts your time together. "was just checking to see how the meal was." kakuzu scoffs as you got off his lap, returning to your seat, to at least show a little decorum because you were still in a public establishment. "we won't be eating here. can we get some takeout trays and the bill please."
you smile, not even the rude emo waiter can ruin your mood now. "no problem sweet cheeks." he leaves as you paid no attention to him, kakuzu watching you admire and dote over the jewelry on your finger. "thank you so much kakuzu." a soft smile gracing his features as he mumbled, 'you're welcome my love.' he took your palm in his, kissing the ring watching your smile light up— even more if it could squeezing his hands in excitement.
the waiter comes back, with items you requested in hand. he gives you the bill and a napkin placing the trays on the table. you observe the flimsy tissue, seeing 10 digits in scraggly writing on it with his name at the bottom. you look at him uninterestedly raising your eyebrow. "call me up when you're ready to leave the old man behind." you laugh in his face boldly, the young man watching you with a stupefied expression.
lifting your hand up, presenting the ring confidently. "no offense sweet cheeks, but you make like maybe 8 an hour…and disrespect your customers, with partners, mind you. and I doubt you could even get me a ring— not one like this, let alone take me out to dinner here. so I think I'll stick with my 'old man' thanks." you handed the check to kakuzu who took it, ignoring as you belittle the man before he cleared his throat, speaking. "oh and… sake? was it? you're fired." sasuke looked at him incredulously. "my name is sasuke! and you can't just fire me!"
"technically I can since I just brought the restaurant, first time you complimented my woman, too. I thought you were going to be trouble so... yea, I've never owned a restaurant before, but I bet you it’s gonna be fun. and because I don’t necessarily want to put my favorite restaurant out of business if they don’t comply to firing you, the previous owner said I can do the honors…. so as my first order, as new owner of this business you are fired. we, as a company, do hope and wish you well but we have to let you go, sorry for any inconvenience."
kakuzu didn’t even try to hide the smugness in his tone, a smirk plastered across his face, as you watch both your partner and the boy who becomes red in the face, getting ready to curse kakuzu out. before he could say anything else, two security guards walked in, placing their hands on his shoulders to escort him to the exit. you placed your polished hand over your mouth, laughing at the scene in front of you, sasuke fuming as he got dragged out, before peering over. "kakuzu… did you really do that?" his voice so clearly entertained by the scene also.
"of course my love. he was making you uncomfortable and I couldn't have that. I'll do whatever I can to make it feel like heaven on earth for you." you sign happily, watching as he handled the plates, his excuse, not wanting you to mess up your clothes. "thank you kakuzu." he grabs your hand leading you to the exit, balancing the two plates in the other, bringing your limb up to kiss at your knuckles before dropping it.
"always. anything for you."

Done When I Say
Paring: Sasuke Uchiha x Fem!Reader
Tags: nsfw, smut, free use mention, sex to destress, overstimulation, rough sex, orgasm control, sex work, degradation, name-calling, Sasuke is an asshole but what else is new
Word count: 0.6k
A/N: Sasuke commission, god I hope this isn't too edgy and brooding. It's hard to write for him!
Tumblr media
There was no doubt that he knew how to fuck you. With how many times he'd done so he'd learned every weak spot you had. A man like him would exploit them to his full benefit and pleasure, yours was just a bonus that he allowed to happen.
"Again." You heard his order from behind you coupled with the lightning fast smacking of his body against yours. "I'm not feel it. Didn't you hear me whore? Or did you lose your ability to understand words?" He doubled his efforts and pulled your ass a little higher, his cock at least reacting to the sight.
Feeling yourself get fucked by him was a weekly occurrence, it was routine, and so were your orgasms, happening when he deemed it necessary. "I just came. I'm still sore from it." You knew that didn't mean anything to him, he wasn't in the brothel to hear your excuses.
"Do you honestly think I care? I payed you to get fucked didn't I? I payed damn well. So you will do as I say and come around my cock." Sasuke's voice was almost deadly calm. If it weren't for him rutting into you and his cock pulsing with new waves of cum you wouldn't know if he felt good or not. Men like him were always tricky, but made you feel so good, which is why despite his attitude you looked forward to Sasuke's visits after training.
You let yourself go for him, focused on his hands, his cock, his balls slapping your clit, his cum trickling between your legs and onto the futon. The orgasm was borderline painful, ripped out of your sensitive pussyhole by him.
"Stop." The word bolted through your body so painfully. With great effort you forced your orgasm to stop, for your cunt to stop spasming around him.
"You're so cruel Sasuke." He hummed in response, if you could even call it such. He was already on the verge of ejaculation, your body responding so beautifully to him only spurred him on more.
"For someone who craves cock so much you have incredible self-control." That was as close to a compliment as Sasuke ever gave you. "Hold still, don't come." Two commands that he grunted out as he kept fucking his cock into you, the slaps echoing, probably heard by the other people in the brothel, maybe even in the street down below seeing as the window was open.
Your pussy gleefully took his thick, warm cum, as did your womb so happy that it's finally him who gets to claim it. "P-Plea-"
"Yes." That was the only word you needed to make your cunt pulse around his cock once again, finally finishing the orgasm that was interrupted before. Sasuke never moaned for you, he was fully silent even while he emptied himself inside of you, fucked you through it all and then pulled out to let the white mess spill out. "Fucking messy. Can't you even pretend not to be a free use slut? Used for the pleasure of any man who pays you." You were below him, but you served his needs so he didn't mind getting messy with you, "Close your legs, you're making it worse."
You let your body spread against the sheets and crossed your legs one over the other, your back and ass on full display for him.
"Hm. Some other time." You heard him mumble as he got dressed and tossed a coin purse beside you. "Extra. Don't ask why, just be grateful."
"O-Oh. Thank you. Thank you very much" If you had the strength you would have gotten up to greet him as he left. But you did meet his eyes right before he jumped through the window, the moonlight shining over his jet-black hair. It always looked so soft, you wondered if he'd let you touch him one of these days. He left with a nod and you were left there to catch your breath.
When you looked and counted the money you noticed there was indeed extra. More than enough to give you a break from work until he visited again next week.

The gates to the Uchiha settlement were open, and enemy forces began gathering outside.
However, when describing the formidable territory the Uchiha had collected over the past few years, referring to their land as a settlement was a rather egregious understatement. The Uchiha gathered upon a sprawling territory equalling half the Grand Mountain range in addition to a handsome chunk of the flats, with the main sector they called home being in the center of the dense forest on a level section of the elevated land.
After a long and strenuous trek up the mountain, the foreign battalions sat in wait among the tree branches in the shadow of their last obstacle. Tall, jagged tree trunks lined the main sector of the Uchiha civilization, forming a wall stretching almost infinitely in both directions. The barrier was interrupted only by a single open gate.
It sprawled open in the cool night air. The sharpened ends of the wooden fortress pointed up toward the heavens, casting a jagged shadow across the ground to the treeline like ferocious teeth lining an agape jaw.
A slight breeze caused the leaves to waver as the shadow-shrouded leadership pondered the open gate. Desperation and bloodthirst were almost palpable among the forces, exacerbated by fatigue and impatience.
They ultimately trickled in against their better judgment, passing through the mouth of the Uchiha settlement in the moonlight. Years of passage in and out of the gate reduced the walking paths to little more than dirt and weeds.
The battalions pressed on. The commanding warriors motioned for their squads to fan out in the darkness, moving low and quietly to fan out among homes and buildings. The battalions proceeded stealthily across the beaten-down ground, filling the entire west end of the camp before they squatted in the darkness with weapons at the ready.
Stillness once again overtook the quiet compound.
The bright light of the full moon illuminated the settlement’s center, but the presence of the wooden fixtures left starkly black shadows around the camp’s perimeter. Even for nighttime, the shadows lingered a bit too largely among the buildings.
Not a single Uchiha walked the dirt paths or stood guard in the tall perches that littered the fortress walls. Those had been the largest consideration in the foreign battalion’s strategy, as with the sharingan eye, a single guard could see down to the base of the mountain and miles beyond. And yet, not a single Uchiha soul was to be seen or sensed in the dimness of the night.
A muffled grunt sounded at the back of one of the squads. Members of the rear squads turned in alert, only to find nothing there but a swordsman-less sword and a patch of trampled dirt.
And then the gate closed.
The honed ends slammed into ditches made in the ground long ago by movement. And before any response could be given to the disappearance of their most rear troops, all attention shot to the sealed-off exit. The invading force couldn’t help the surprised and horrified gasps that echoed through their ranks. Leadership hushed them quickly, whispering harsh words to recenter their feeble troops.
Red eyes began to illuminate the darkness.
Gurgling noises were swept off into the night as the warriors could only turn just in time to witness the corpses of their comrades being dragged off into the shadows. Kunai flew silently through the air. Blunt noises announced their impact, followed by the wet, squelching noises of blood spatter.
Members at the front of their squads were quick to light torches, illuminating the battlefield in a wave of flame to reveal the creeping Uchiha waiting in the murk. The Uchiha held their weapons at the ready with their piercing gazes. Some crouched near the ground, holding the bodies of warriors before them with slit throats. A few of the captured were twitching; heads hung as the barely alive men were forced to watch their own blood stain the fronts of their armor red.
With rage and fear in their eyes, the attacking forces led a charge, hollering out in the air with raised weapons. Their battle cries were enough for the battalions to summon back some courage lost at the sight of their fallen comrades. The clanging metal of swords filled the atmosphere as shouts rose toward the night sky. Uchiha stormed out from their hiding places, making expert use of their superior ocular abilities and quality weaponry.
The resistance was futile.
The sound of battle rang out, cries of pain only fueling the will of the Uchiha to defend their home. Forces gathered near the center of the main entry path, all having been stopped from moving farther. The enemy forces tried to press on in the face of their obstacle, but the bodies continued to drop. A mass of flesh and metal, the impact made an unmistakable clatter as carcasses hit the dirt below. One by one, they fell with a swiftness that dared to resemble mercy, and above them all, Madara emerged.
Madara Uchiha, who already had a tall and bulky figure in his teenage years, had filled out his crimson-red armor. It proudly adorned his broad chest and squared shoulders, the pieces clanging together harshly as he moved— like a snake’s warning rattle. Madara’s foot found soft flesh as he stood tall upon the mountain of corpses, his oversized weapon slung across the back of his shoulders and the full moon framing his head. He wore his scars pridefully, displaying his well-earned trophies as symbols of his strength. Madara was no longer a boy green in his leadership skills but a battle-hardened man.
And his vast, infamous reputation proceeded him.
A few warriors stood strong against him, holding their swords up as they cried out rageful battle cries, ready to engage in combat again. But they were far and few between compared to the forces that turned and attempted to flee.
Madara watched them with a critical eye, and the remaining warriors couldn’t help but glance out of their peripherals in horror as their remaining comrades were cut down as they ran back toward the closed gates.
It was a massacre led by Izuna Uchiha.
He expertly swung his katana— his movements looking far more like a dance than a slaughter— pivoting in a single place as he cut down the fleeing forces that passed. The retreating forces who managed to make it past pounded on the closed entrance as those on the outside of the crowd were slowly picked off one by one.
They clamored over each other, stepping on one another as they tried to climb up the towering fortress walls. Their wailing and begging resounded into the darkness of the night as Izuna moved in, his Mangekyō Sharingan allowing him to pay little regard to any attacking soldiers as he cut them down with ease.
The night turned silent once again.
Tall torches were lit, lighting the battlefield in a rich glow. The cleanup began as Uchiha dragged corpses and barely alive men through the dirt to a pyre. Children scrambled through the blood-stained village to collect weaponry that could be melted down and reforged.
Madara searched the piles of bodies himself, stalking through them like a proud tiger. Sharingan still ignited, he searched for survivors. Madara plucked one out of the pile by his hair. A strangled, boyish cry pierced the rotting atmosphere as Madara threw him down into a puddle of mud and blood.
The swordsman, a boy no older than seventeen, picked his face up and laid against the bodies of his slain comrades. A gaping wound stretched across his stomach at the bottom of his ribcage, staining the cloth he wore under his armor a sickly dark red.
Madara stared down at him with severe eyes. The black patterns were still swirling within the reds of his irises. The young swordsman met his gaze head-on like a cornered and wounded animal, teeth clenched and brow knitted.
His shaking fingers tightened weakly around the hilt of his sword, and in one last act of defiance, the young warrior pointed the tip of his weapon at Madara.
The entire sword shook.
Madara watched the display without expression, meeting the young warrior's gaze with a blank scowl. The young warrior quirked a semblance of a smile, painfully aware of his impending fate.
Madara extinguished his sharingan, ignoring how the sword’s tip swayed with the boy’s dwindling strength. It was kicked away, and Madara took the boy by the hair again, dragging him off.
The young warrior moaned in agony but ultimately couldn’t do much to resist. Madara dragged the boy along the ground, filth that wasn’t his own collecting in the young warrior’s mouth as the skin on his torso tore. His head hit one stair, then another, and when Madara threw him down again, he found himself on a wood floor.
The room was warm.
When the young warrior opened his eyes, he could barely make out what he was looking at, but then the handcrafted cabinets became focused. Vials of plants in vials lined the shelves. Dried flowers sat suspended in liquids. He couldn’t take his eye off the jar in the center of his sight: a thick-looking clear liquid with the heads of white flowers floating within. The petals were slightly curled, but the flowers retained their overall structure. He couldn’t think; he could only stare at the little flowers suspended inside.
He heard footsteps above him, somewhere just farther into the little building. The boy laid curled in on himself, unable to see much more than the shelf in front of him and Madara’s long legs, which ended somewhere out of his sight. The sound of the steps he couldn’t place was light and stopped short of him.
“I will grab another cot,” a woman spoke.
Cot? For him?
“No need,” Madara quickly cut her off. A few other Uchiha warriors entered the door, but the young swordsman could barely register anything. “Handle this swiftly.”
Another set of steps vibrated harshly through the wood floor. The young warrior’s eyes moved weakly, spying a familiar green armor from one of his allies. An Uchiha warrior hauled the corpse. The green-clad sleeve wavered limply in the air. He might have wondered how many of his comrades had been taken to this place if he had had more strength.
“Stay here.” The lighter steps walked off again. Even though they were traveling away, they were louder this time. The wood floor adjusted. The young warrior’s chest clenched, instinctively jumpy at unseen movement near his head.
“I have informed you that there is no need.”
“Ah, let another boy bleed out onto my floor then. I will ensure that the mop makes it to your hand,” the woman quickly snapped back. More noises resounded through the wood floor as she seemed to drag something forward. It sounded large if such a sound existed. There came a pause. “Well, do you intend to make yourself useful?”
“Woman!” The shout was loud enough to make the boy flinch. He wrapped an arm over his stomach. The bleeding wouldn’t stop. He could hardly feel the sting of the dirt contaminating his insides. “Do not push your luck.”
Before he could comprehend, the young warrior was lifted up. He gasped in pain, a noise of distress falling from his lips as his wound stretched before he settled on an elevated cot. A thick layer of fabric sat between him and the thin mat. A lantern light flashed, blinding him for just a moment as a set of hands came over his wound.
When he cracked open his eyes, he saw you. You stood over him, one hand stopping the bleeding of his large wound with a clean cloth. He flinched away as the other came toward his forehead. You brushed away some wet strands of hair stuck to his sticky forehead.
Madara stood a few feet behind you, watching over your shoulder. He took a long stride forward.
“That is enough with your nonnecessities,” he protested. You dismissed him with a sound of annoyance, holding your hand out to prevent him from getting any closer.
“If you cannot control yourself, you may wait outside,” you nodded without a second thought, departing from the young warrior’s vision again.
“Woman—” The foreign boy felt a sharp movement somewhere out of his vision. He closed his eyes, listening to the sounds of quick pivots and the sound of fabric snapping. Madara’s armor rattled. But the sound of a palm slapping skin that the boy anticipated didn’t come, and after a beat of slowly declining tension, you padded somewhere deeper into the room.
You left a cool breeze in your wake, and to his surprise, Madara remained quiet where he stood. The Uchiha clan head puffed to himself, the simmering of his temper not yet reaching a boil.
The door swung open, allowing night air to flow into the room, but the new spectator didn’t announce his presence.
The foreign warrior could hear you fiddling with something in your hands. Rapidly weakening, all the young warrior could do was hold the fabric you slipped under his hand on his wound.
When you appeared over him again, the lantern light illuminated the back of your head like a halo. And as you pressed something into his mouth, he couldn’t help but consider you one of the most beautiful women he had ever seen.
Even at this hour, your hair draped gracefully over your brow. You had grown into your awkward features from adolescence, your immature frame having settled nicely into a distribution of healthy adult weight and functional muscle. You filled out in the way your biology intended. This might have been the first time he’s ever seen you, but the way your skilled hands and sharp mind held a commanding presence over your apothecary didn’t escape him— even as the elite Uchiha warriors hovered over your shoulder with every move.
You must be Madara’s wife, the young warrior presumed somewhere in the fog of his dizzying head. He considered the thought amusing, for who else could talk to the infamous warrior Madara like you had?
“Tell me—” You spoke gently and turned the young warrior’s head to the side to face you. You wiped off some of the grime that caked his face. —“What clan do you hail from?” Your hand wrapped gingerly around his wrist, and two fingers rested below his palm. The words spilled from his lips without a second thought.
“Sugai,” he answered as if his throat had retained strength while the rest of his body waivered. The word spilled out from his lips. He hardly registered it himself.
The handful of warriors who stood behind Madara muttered amongst themselves.
“The Sugai Clan…”
“Were all your comrades members of the Sugai Clan?” you questioned. Were. You didn’t even have to leave your apothecary to know what happened to the rest. The young warrior didn’t register your tense. He only answered.
“Not all,” he said before his voice drifted into a faint whisper. You leaned down so that your ear sat adjacent to his lips. Strands of your hair fell over the clammy skin of his face. You kept a keen watch over the young warrior’s hands. The cloth on his stomach had changed colors completely.
You continued your questioning and interrogation in a soft, low voice. You muttered to each other in the lantern light. Madara waited with frustrated anticipation, simmering to himself. After all, Madara had little patience for your involvement to begin with.
“It appears that the Senju have migrated north.” You finally resurfaced, adjusting your robes and releasing your hold on the babbling boy on the cot below. “They are snatching up alliances, it seems.”
“The Sugai Clan has allied with the Senju?” one of the Uchiha warriors questioned from behind you. Madara swiftly hushed him.
“Silence.” The room returned to a standstill in an instant, nearly militantly. Madara took a moment to think to himself, crossing his thick arms over his blood-stained chest plate. He stared at the dying warrior on the cot, watching as the pool of red crept onto the fabric below. His eyes flickered to yours. —“Not just the Sugai, but all minor clans in the east have been pushed from their territories. The raid tonight was unsurprising, to say the least—” Madara glanced outside through a sliver in the ajar door as the bodies piled up outside. “Clearly.”
“Four other small clans to the southeast have allied with the Sugai now that the land between Uchiha and Senju dwindles by the day,” you added, leaning against the counter. A jar of processed flower buds— the same that you had shoved into the young warrior’s mouth— sat next to your elbow. Your eyes flickered again to Madara’s, watching him closely to gauge his demeanor. You were the interrogator, but then again, when the head of the Uchiha ordered silence, even you were not immune.
“Indeed—” He chose not to regard you. —“We expected as much. This information is not new.”
Without a second thought, Madara swiftly cut the throat of the Sugai warrior before swiftly retreating out the door with his war fan.
One of the men behind him collected the young warrior, throwing him over his shoulder to be burned with the rest of the corpses. The boy coughed up blood, spewing it onto the wood flooring.
The door flapped back and forth in the doorframe. You watched as Madara and his pack of elite soldiers left between sways of the door. They grew smaller in the distance with every wave. You lurched forward, intent on following after them, but an arm swiftly wrapped around your torso. The motion almost swept you off your feet as Izuna’s shoulder blocked you from racing out the door. He gave a bit into your velocity, pivoting a half-step backward.
“Do not go outside,” he warned. You gripped the arm holding you, looking into Izuna’s dark eyes. A neutral expression held his face in acute severity. You didn’t miss how he held you at a calculated distance. Izuna’s lip shuddered once.
“You are not my keeper, Izuna. It is not your place to stand in my way.” You brushed him off and ripped your arm away from his stern grip before readjusting the shoulder of your robes. He let you, watching the backs of your robes while uncertainty swam in his dark irises. You set out through the door.
“Madara!”
Madara ignored you, pretending not to hear as he stormed away, but by the third shout of his name, he reluctantly stopped in his tracks. His posse of elite military figures passed by him as Madara heaved a heavy sigh, his armor clattering with the motion before he turned to you. You made your way down the stairs. Smoke and mild debris wafted through the air as the Uchiha warriors made short work of tidying up the settlement.
“Madara!” You called again as he lumbered over to you. He held his back erect with his weapon still clasped tightly in his hand. Madara said nothing as he expressed his usual stoic demeanor. You stood at the bottom step of the apothecary with one foot on the ground. Madara stopped a few meters away, still within earshot. He did not appear anywhere near as concerned as you were as you questioned him with wide eyes, “Are you unconcerned that Hashirama has been named head of the Senju clan?”
Your words remained stuck in the air, caught by the particles and impurities that danced in the atmosphere. The smell of death floated in the cool, nighttime wind.
Madara’s lip dipped into a frown.
“Lack of concern would be reckless indeed,” Madara muttered, puffing another deep breath out his chest. He pivoted slightly, turning his attention upward toward the moon. “However, it is not as reckless as refusing an alliance with the Senju based on Hashirama’s lack of leadership experience alone in favor of attacking the Uchiha. Small clans certainly have foresight equivalent to their size. The Sugai prove to be no different.”
“I worry about what this change in leadership will bring. It is most unpredictable.”
“Then it is fortunate that you are not in a position to worry yourself over such things.” Madara barked out what could have been mistaken for a laugh. “We have engaged with the Senju countless times. Formidable as they may be, the strength of the Uchiha is far greater.”
He dismissed you with a wave of his hand, returning to head deeper into the settlement again. Now that you had inserted yourself into village politics, Madara had had enough of humoring you. You followed.
“Tobirama Senju is a foul, beasty man. I can only imagine how— how objectionable the older one must be.”
Madara moved with wide strides, continuing with extra swiftness to purposefully lose you.
“And what do you know of Tobirama?” Madara scoffed. He faced forward, completely missing the expression of dread that fell across your face.
“The tales from Izuma, of course!” You quickened your pace.
Madara stopped once again, but you ran straight into his backplate this time. You stumbled back, a hand to your nose. Madara barked orders into the orderly chaos in front of you. He had taken to his role as clan head long ago and excelled in the position.
“For yet another time, you need not concern yourself with affairs on the battlefield. Do you understand this?” Madara only spared a glance over his shoulder at you. His irises flickering across your form with something akin to skepticism. Madara averted his gaze before you could meet it.
“You bring foreign boys to my doorsteps to rifle information from—”
“Enemy warriors who attacked your kinsmen and home.”
—“And you expect—”
“I expect you to hold your tongue and obey your clan head.” You stopped in the middle of your sentence at the sight of Madara’s sharingan. You frowned but looked away. You had pressed as far as Madara would allow. “Clean what you must in the apothecary swiftly, then go straight home.”
You retreated the way you came back toward the apothecary, sparing not even a pout of defiance at your clan head.
When you arrived, you found your space pleasantly lit as you pressed open the door. Izuna stood in the center of the room by the counter. A bundle of incense sat between his clasped hands. Izuna muttered a prayer as the smoke cleansed the apothecary. Death had occurred here, after all.
Izuna had lit every lantern and candle in the apothecary with his fire style, and the warm embers lit your workshop in a serene glow. The flame flickered in the reflection of the jar that held your truth-telling flower buds. A small line of smoke drifted from the incense, sailing up toward the high ceiling far above your heads. He followed the wisps with his eyes, tilting his chin up as he appeared deep in thought.
You guided the apothecary door shut behind you. Izuna continued to withhold his eye contact, almost as if you wouldn’t notice him and shoo him away if he didn’t meet your eye. The cleaning supplies had already been brought out of storage. The bloody cot— along with the others from earlier in the night— was gone, along with the bloody streak across your floor.
You stepped forward to inspect the wood paneling. No, some of the blood stains still remained, deepening the color of the previous one, which deepened the one before that.
“Women should not have to be so close to such barbarism,” Izuna spoke, gaze training on the little jar of flower buds. He placed the incense in a ceramic holder, lingering for only a second before finally turning to face you directly.
The orientation of his clothes appeared neat compared to the rest of him. Sweat, dirt, and blood layered his skin, deepening the complexion of his skin tone. Spatterings littered his armor. A prominent line of rust-red extended from his chest to over his right eye, bisecting his face with sanguinary matter. But his hands were clean— starkly pale and pristine in comparison to the blackish mix of earth and gore that stained his skin above his wrists.
“I will be standing guard outside,” he said, “I am well aware that you will not be sleeping tonight. I would normally protest, but it is preferable to you venturing outside.”
“Izuna—”
He offered you a nod and little else as he began to walk toward the door, the back of his robes fluttering with his stride. You stepped after him, swiftly snatching his sleeve. Izuna turned to you, his motion gentle.
“Izuna, please. You are being ridiculous.” It was uncomfortable meeting his eye. He looked intently at you as if just speaking was a contract binding his full, undivided attention. Even without his sharingan, it felt like he was looking right through you. “Stay. Let me treat your hands and cleanse your armor.”
Izuna’s gaze flickered gently down to your hand as he slotted his index finger into your grip on his sullied robes. He cocked his head to the side, more interested in searching for grime he may have transferred onto his skin than your protests.
“My presence here is unsanitary and overstayed.” He took your fingers in his, gently prying your stubborn hold off his sleeve.
“Bathe then and come back.”
He held your attention as he slowly circled you, backing up until he put himself between you and the door. Izuna continued to gingerly hold your hand as if keeping his touch on you would prevent you from acting recklessly. His lips quirked to the side at your notion, and unlike his older brother, who you could read like an open book, Izuna remained as composed as ever.
“Your attempts to deceive me into disclosing information about the military ventures of the clan are admirable, but I am not so easily fooled.” He gave your hand a soft squeeze.
“As if I would dare attempt to trick you—” You could barely speak the full sentence without your lips crinkling in guilt. Izuna’s cheeks creased, forming deep dimples on both sides of his mouth. He slowly released your hand.
“I will be right outside.”
“We hardly spend time together anymore. Do you remember our expeditions into the forest when we were children?” you trailed off. “Before all that happened…” Izuna suddenly formed an air of seriousness about him.
Izuna was the only one you told about your encounter with Tobirama— or, more precisely— that Tobirama had been the one to attack you. The feud between the Uchiha and the Senju had raged for generations, but confrontations rarely left the battlefield as the two large clans carved up territory. So when a warrior in training from the Senju attacked an unarmed Uchiha girl, the clan was outraged.
You left willingly to the coast with family and a few others. Although, given that the art of fishing knots was passed down matrilineally, this wasn’t out of the ordinary.
You were told it was to practice a protection ritual in the salty waters and lend your hands to bringing in fresh, coastal resources, but a deep part of you knew that the clan leaders worried about the Senju targeting young girls. And if any resource was more valuable to the Uchiha than salted fish or powdered shells, it was the upcoming generation of young women, for who would bear the next generation of Uchiha warriors otherwise?
In the wake of the Senju raid on the village, your relationship with Tobirama weighed heavily on you, blanketing your head and shoulders as his fur had for too many nights by the river.
Izuna seemed like the right person to tell.
You masked it as a realization. He only asked you how you knew Tobirama had been the one to attack you so long ago. Your response was vague, but Izuna didn’t push.
“It would not be wise of me to overstay.” His voice was gentle when he finally spoke. His light tone snapped you from the rabbit hole of memories that instantly plagued your head. Izuna backed up to the door, his fingers pressing into the wood. The flames that topped your simple candles wavered, but Izuna’s eyes didn’t budge from yours. He looked at you with a soft certainty. “I will be right outside.”
“Izuna—” You took a step forward but stopped short. His brows perked up slightly on his forehead as he let out a light hum. He held the door slightly ajar. “I—” Your words left you under the subtle pressure of Izuna’s gaze. You toyed with the seam of your robes but kept your attention locked with his. “Madara still fancies me.”
It was meant to be a question, but the words left your lips definitively, almost like an accusation. Izuna’s expression didn’t change, and his forced stoicism only served to confirm your hunch. The corners of your lips fell with your shoulders.
You turned with a snap, facing the counter behind you. You gripped the wooden ledge, intending to find something to make you look busy, but to no avail. Izuna continued to stand with the door ajar, unmoving.
“Why is it always about what Madara wants?” you puffed. Silence overtook the apothecary. The flames continued to waver. “It is true. You are far too loyal, Izuna. Do you not know of such things?”
The door creaked farther open before stopping. You refused to turn around, even as the back of your neck and back began to feel heated by the imaginary gaze that haunted your curiosity.
You took a breath, tilting your head toward a large jar on one of your shelves. You could just barely make out Izuna’s figure as he stood in the doorway, not wholly committed to facing fully away from you.
“I will be right outside until you are prepared to retire.”
The wooden door creaked quietly open before swinging closed, wavering in the night.
Thank you to all who liked, reblogged, followed, and supported. Your support means so much and is greatly appreciated.
Author Commentary: Timeskiiip! They're all grown up! When I was writing this fic I imagined it like how they reintroduce all the nostalgic characters in a Pirates of the Caribbean movie. That's it, moving forward imagine Foul Creature of the set of pirates! That will certainly work! Tobirama may not be in this chapter, but rest assured this is still a Tobirama fic.
More importantly: In my experience, I always thought that people didn't like when series were, say, more than 5ish chapters. I found that a lot of people lost interest, so I tried to keep chapters themselves long and the quantity of them to a minimum. In my latest poll, most people didn't have a preference, but after that, people liked multiple shorter chapters. I wanted to wrap this series up in 2-4 long chapters, but maybe I'll drag it out a bit so I can post more frequently. Thoughts?

✣ HEAD OVER BOOTS! ੈ✩‧₊˚ SASUKE UCHIHA
wc. 1.5k
tags. farm au, fluff, stableboy!sasuke x black fem!reader, wingman naruto bc that concept is funny as FUCK, “suggestive” thoughts on sasuke’s end.
Tumblr media
stableboy!sasuke who’s eyebrows raise as you step foot onto the ranch he works at, claiming to be a replacement for the last dairy farmer who had recently been fired. at first impression, he’s just irritated that he has to make conversation with another nameless coworker. the last new hire that he spoke to reported him to the head farmer about his “attitude problem”, and he’d gotten a very verbal warning.
and so, he tries.
slight nods toward people when they speak to him, eye contact, the whole nine. does he love doing it? absolutely not, but he can’t afford anymore complaints, this job is too important to him.
he doesn’t plan on treating you any differently, until he sees the way your brown skin sparkles in the sun, or the way your slacks cling to your thighs, and now he’s contradicting his previous beliefs. before you, his breath didn’t usually hitch when he saw people and his heart definitely didn’t hammer against his ribcage for no reason, especially since he hasn’t even spoken to you in the two days you’ve been here.
he keeps his distance, because frankly, he doesn’t trust himself to not do something stupid in your presence.
sasuke shakes his head to get himself out of his own thoughts as he’s brushing the mane of his favorite mare, luna. the action makes her tilt her head at him, and he scratches the back of his neck in embarrassment.
“don’t ask.”
it isn’t until your fifth day of employment that he’s forced to interact with you.
sasuke’s already in a bad mood, after being forced to finish grooming the last half of naruto’s sheep since he’d passed out from the heat, and even now as he dislodged the horseshoe from luna’s foot, his mood was still sour.
“there you are! ‘been looking for you for like 30 minutes!” naruto calls from behind him. he looks over his shoulder to see the blonde carrying a huge knitted sack on his back. it was a surprise that it hadn’t busted with the weight of whatever was inside of it, and sasuke felt another vein in his forehead swell with blood.
“look who decided to get over his heatstroke.”
“screw you. i’m here to do you a solid,” naruto drops the sack on the hay-covered floor with a soft thud, and a few green clusters roll out onto the ground. since when did they do personalized grass bundles? sasuke’s eyebrow twitches, and he hopes this isn’t what he thinks it is.
“you get to take these to the new girl! kakashi said they were for the cattle.”
fuck.
sasuke audibly chokes, eliciting a snort from his blonde counterpart, but this isn’t funny in the least to him. he wants to do literally anything but this, and yet his greatest fear just came true right before his eyes. why did he apply for this job again? “no. absolutely not—just… no.” sasuke turns back to his current task, and attempts to finish tending to luna, but naruto is trudging over to him and crouching down to his level with a calm smile. for a while, just watches in silence, and sasuke briefly considers stabbing himself in the eye with the pair shoe-pull offs he was holding.
“y’know ‘suke, you can’t be afraid of pussy for your whole life.”
“can you genuinely fuck off?” sasuke gripes, his grip on luna’s hooves tightening a notch until he realizes what he’s doing. he breathes in once, and out another—just like kakashi had taught him that one time after him and naruto had gotten into it on the front lawn and fell in the fish pond.
“nah. anyway, i know how you are about people, but you obviously feel something for her, right? at least you’re subtle enough, but i pay a lot of attention these days. she’s so nice, just go talk to her!”
and maybe he’s right—maybe he just needs to man up, and go talk to you, but what would you even say to someone like you? you’re everything he’s not, and the last thing he wants is to make a bad first impression. sasuke hates to admit it, but you absolutely allure him in every way possible. once he finishes the other horseshoe removal, he’s shooting to his feet and slinging the back of grass over his shoulders. sure, it almost sends him tumbling to the ground, but for some reason—a new wave of determination is washing over his skin.
“just talk to her…yeah, i can talk.”
“exactly! now stop thinking so much and take the goddamn grass.” naruto ruffles sasuke’s hair and shoves him into his first steps out of the barn, and he’s on his way to you.
he mostly just strolls around the farm to stall, but if anyone asks, he’s thinking of what to say. he just needs to deliver the bundles, introduce himself, and leave. it’s gonna be fine, right? you’re not gonna think he’s a total weirdo—but what if you do think he’s weird? oh god, that’ll kill him. he has to see you everyday, and if you think he’s weird, then you’ll probably tell everyone, and then he’s gonna get fired—shit, he should go back to his room—NO, he’s delivering the fucking grass bundles, it’s just cow food, for gods sake.
grass, introduce, leave. grass, introduce, leave. grass introduce, leave—
“oh, are those for me?” you gasp happily from your spot on a comfortable piece of hay, and you’re running over to him. how the hell did he happen to stumble directly into your barn? curse his ridiculously good sense of direction. your scent floods his senses as you step closer to him with that smile, and it’s just then that sasuke remembers what he’s there for.
“yeah, naruto made me deliver them, the lazy bastard. they’re for your cattle.” sasuke says coolly, yet internally cringing at his dialogue options. obviously, they’re for the fucking cattle, god.
all his worries melt away as small giggles flow from your lips, and you take his wrist in your hand and lead him into the barn. you introduce him to each one of your cattle—literally every single one—and he doesn’t think he’s ever enjoyed anything more than he is right now. everything is fine, but now the adrenaline is wearing off and he’s painfully aware of how gorgeous he’d always thought you were once more.
from your voice, to the way your clothes cling to your body, to your scent—sasuke’s being lassoed in by your beauty, and he doesn’t think he wants to escape. frankly if you tied him up, that would be pretty hot. you have rope on your belt right now, you could literally just—no, what is his problem?
by the time he’s done fantasizing, you’re unbundling each pack of grass and feeding your cattle. he inhales, and goes to squat next to you.
“i’m sasuke, by the way.”
“hah, of course i know that, silly! you’re the heartthrob around here,” you chuckle at your own remark, and sasuke even feels himself smirking a little before catching it. why was he so entertained by you?
“that’s one of the first things i found out when i got here. i didn’t even know who people were talking about, but then i actually saw you, and well—let’s just say i understand a little better now.” you finish unbundling the last pack of grass, and watch the cattle fall into their peaceful little cliques. you lean back onto your occupied hay bed, and begin unbuttoning your flannel. sasuke doesn’t freak out, thinking you’re just gonna gonna stop at two or three buttons, but then your passing your third, then fourth, then fifth—eventually leaving your shirt completely open, and the only thing underneath being your sports bra.
he isn’t blushing, nor is he looking. sasuke is not a creep. he keeps his gaze directly on the floor as he stands up, and offers you a hand up without looking at you. you giggle once more and take it, and he feels your nails graze over his palms, which does something funny to his stomach. he still can’t look at you all the way, but he can feel your gaze on him.
“thanks for the delivery. i was hoping i’d get someone as fine as you, guess my wish was granted.” your eyelashes flutter as you talk, and he’s definitely blushing now, but his composure is still there as he gives you a very curt nod.
it’s not until you reach into your pocket and pull out a little roll of cash and stick it into his breast-pocket that his mind is short circuiting. your fingers linger on his chest for longer than they should, but he never wants you to move them.
“see ya’ around, cowboy.” you drag you finger down his chest as you take your exit, missing the stuttered breath that tears itself out of sasuke’s chest. he stands deathly still until you’re out of sight, and then he’s promptly crumpling to his knees.
“fuck.”

Gambling Debts (Kakashi x Reader)
Tumblr media
I've had this scene stuck in my head for a fic plot for almost two years, and finally am getting the itch to start writing it out. This is just a brain dump to get the juices flowing and hopefully commit to getting this story going. The story will have NSFW smut scenes in the future, but this fic will most likely be a sloooow burn, so minors please DNI. Set during the time in the early Naruto series when Tsunade was first sworn in as Hokage. Jiriya just took Naruto and Sasuke is still missing. Outline: Just when the new village leader is getting settled in an old acquaintance appears with a village-sized IOU of debts they had collected from all of Tusnade's past gambling spots. When it's clear that Tsunade will never be able to repay the debt, an old village law is brought up and everything is put into question. Warnings: None. Reader is fem-identifying.
Tumblr media
“Did you know that when your village was first founded, a law was created where the Hokage's debts are also the village's debts?” As Shizune started to protest you snapped your fingers over your shoulder, on command your elderly hunched assistant scurried forward to place a black folder into the expecting hand. Pulling out simple reading glasses you sat them on the bridge of your nose as the folder opened with very old and worn-looking documents
“Of course, the founders had no debts and did this as the start of their treasury for the village, but they never updated the law.” Dark eyes glanced pointedly back up to the now nauseated blonde's green face. “They must have also assumed that no Hokage would ever be so foolish as to accrue any debt amounts that could put the village into financial jeopardy.” “But that would mean that…you…no.”
Tsunade shook her head as her body gave out in horror and slummed in the large wooden chair, feeling as if the soul was leaving her body. Shizune looked between her lady and the now terrifying woman in front of her.
“I don’t understand, what does that mean if she is the owner of your debts my lady?” Kakashi could barely get the murmur out as the realization started to seep into his skin. “It means that depending on how large the Hokage's debts are….” Tsunade snapped out of it and sprung up causing the chair to fly back into the windows behind her, thick beads of sweat dripping from all over her body. “YES! The debts surely can’t be that bad, we can use the extra funds in the treasury to close out what I owe to you.” With shaky hands and clammy palms, she fumbled with a pen from the drawer of her desk.
The atmosphere tensed at the sound of a soft chuckle.
Reaching over the desk and gently pulling the pen from the blond to your own, you pulled a business card from the breast covering of the skin-tight black dress that wrapped around your figure, quickly jotting down the card before flipping it face down and sliding it in a single motion to where the two women were. Tsunade gulped as she gripped the paper in her hands and slowly flipped it over, Shizune gasped covering her mouth in shock at the number. “My Lady…Konoha…. has never had that much in its treasury. Not even if you add up all the years since its founding.“ Nervously she glanced back to where you still casually leaned against the desk.
“What does this mean?” Unable to stop the sly smile as you pressed off the desk and started walking to the door the sound of high heels clicking echoing in the silence. The assistant scrambled to catch up to their mistress while trying not to drop more files and documents that filled their arms. As the massive doors opened from the two accompanying giant security guards, you looked back at Tsunade who now sat with her head in her hands, and Kakashi who was now leaning against the bookcase for support. When your eyes contacted the petite brunette you spoke clearly, before disappearing behind the doors as they closed. “It means I own your village.”

Satisfied | Kakashi Hatake x Reader |
author's note: this is a WIP that i actually finished today haha i started this many months ago and picked it back up yesterday. i apologize if you can tell what's old and what's new 🙈 this is a fluffy modern au where the reader and kakashi are elementary school teachers!
pairing: kakashi hatake x fem!reader
warnings: pregnant!reader, no plot just fluff
Tumblr media
Hatake Kakashi leans against his wooden desk, waiting patiently for his young students to calm themselves after they'd returned from their lunch period. He's a laid-back teacher that doesn't mind letting his students socialize a tad more than was maybe necessary at times. He learns a lot about the children this way; he studies their friendships, their rivalries, and even some inklings of a crush in a few of them. It sure made planning the seating chart fun, whenever he decided to change things up.
"Naruto!" He says sharply as the fifth-grader held a pair of scissors to the ponytail of a girl that routinely made it clear she didn't like him. Kakashi wasn't exactly a fan of how Ino would exclude the blond boy, but he surely wasn't going to let Naruto cut her long, beautiful platinum hair. The last thing he needed was screaming, and the calls to the parents, then the paperwork... He shudders at the thought of it all.
Naruto scowls at his teacher and stuffs his scissors back into his pencil box, crossing his arms and turning his head so Kakashi can't see his face. It was enough to elicit a soft chuckle from Kakashi, and by then the class had calmed down and focused their attention onto Mr. Kakashi, as he had introduced himself at the beginning of the school year.
"Oh, is it my turn?" He jokes softly before standing tall, hands stuffed into his pockets. "For the rest of the day, we'll be outside and painting with Mrs. Hatake's class."
The classroom erupts into cheers. The most fun they ever got to have during school was when Mr. Kakashi and Mrs. Hatake teamed up. Kakashi held a thin finger to his nose and lips, indicating to his students to hold it down. He smiles pleasantly when even Naruto collectes himself and hushes up.
"Leave all of your belongings and line up by the door; and be quick! We're already late."
"We're always late." Sakura frowns. Kakashi could only wonder why she was upset; perhaps because a certain black-haired boy is in Mrs. Hatake's class?
"Time is merely made up." Kakashi shrugs before leading the way out of the classroom, each student neatly in line. Not even Naruto was willing to see what would happen if he tried misbehaving while they walked through the school; Mr. Kakashi once said that he had eyes on the back of his head and he certainly didn't want to see them!
The kids cheer when they get out of the building and ran towards Mrs. Hatake's class. The newspapers, the paint, the brushes, all of it was already set up and ready to go. The other students are patiently waiting and chatting generally amongst themselves, whereas you, Mrs. Hatake yourself, stand waiting with crossed arms and an unimpressed eyebrow when Kakashi finally approaches.
Kakashi rubs the back of his head, smiling weakly and laughing nervously. "Ah..."
"Save it." You snort and turn to the students. "Alright everyone, settle down! Before we start painting, make sure to put on your aprons so you don't mess up your nice clothes!"
Sakura and Ino both squeal as they rush to collect an apron and make it back to the table before someone could take the spots beside Uchiha Sasuke, who already has an apron on. Naruto runs and picks up two aprons, rushing back to his friend Gaara, who was generally too nervous to involve himself in a crowd. Gaara smiles and thanks his best friend with a strong hug that Naruto's more than eager to return. They really are the cutest boys in the bunch, in your opinion.
When all of the children are ready to go, you pass out thick pieces of paper, talking as you go. "I want you all to paint whatever you want! Your pets, your friends, your favorite superheroes, anything! Just express yourselves today. As long as you turn in a painting, you get a hundred!"
"Yes!" Naruto cheers. He didn't get many hundreds on anything, so he's quite determined to rock this painting activity.
The kids start their paintings, so you and Kakashi settle in your own spots on the benches to paint your own things. You make eye contact and share a small smile, a fluttering feeling in your swollen belly passing by, before getting started. "So what will you be painting, Mr. Kakashi?" You absentmindedly swipe a hand over your baby bump; in just a few more weeks it'll be time for your maternity leave!
"Hmmm, I'm not sure yet, Mrs. Hatake." He hums softly. He sure loves saying your name. "How about you?"
"Well, I'm going to paint my beloved cat Julian." You grin smugly. Oh how Kakashi despises that cat.
"The entire world, and you choose a cat? And not only that, but the dumbest one in this world?" Kakashi narrows his eyes with a scowl. Julian was a good kitty, he could admit that. It's the idiotic antics that the orange fella got up to that irritate him to no end, and he's gotten worse since you got pregnant. He's a bit like Naruto, if he really thinks about it. But Naruto's definitely smarter than that cat, at least.
"Ehhhh?!?!" Footsteps quickly approach you and your husband.
Kakashi's eye twitches before he dares look at the only student who can get that loud. "Naruto! What's wrong?"
And thus begins Naruto's rant about Sasuke, his rival since kindergarten. You laugh softly and rub your lips together in an effort to hold yourself back, continuing on painting your cat while Kakashi stares blankly at his student and tries comprehending why he's so upset about Sasuke improvising and making purple paint with the red and blue paints, since Naruto had stolen the purple paint just to spite Sasuke in the first place.
Perhaps Julian has the edge on Naruto after all.
Even young Gaara, a student of your own, has his head hung in shame with a palm plastered to his face. At that, you couldn't contain your laughter. "Naruto, honey." You chuckle softly. "Why don't you get him back and see what happens when you mix red and yellow?"
Naruto nods roughly and runs back to his seat, and moments later he cheers for his success in the making of his favorite color. Kakashi smiled and looked at you with gentle eyes. "How do you do it?"
"I just think how he would and then go from there." You shrug and glide the paintbrush over the paper. "It doesn't make him feel dumb and he learns something new."
"You'd be better off as his teacher than me."
"I don't know about that one. You have quite the knack for kids, even if your style is different from most." You wink at your husband and quietly continue painting.
Kakashi smiles to himself and begins working on his own canvas, but with his own watercolor set instead. He took some art classes back in college, so he decides to put his skills to the test with this project. Being with you gives him inspiration like that, when otherwise he would just be lazy and draw something simple, like an apple with a worm in it. There were endless reasons why he loved you and married you; the way you made him feel and the confidence you gave him were very high up on that list of answers.
You check your watch and issue a ten-minute warning to the students to finish up so their paintings can dry before they go home for the day, and that they could have a whole hour of recess after you called time. Little hands quickly hurry their brush strokes and reach for different bottles of paint as they perfect their masterpieces.
Kakashi hums softly, intently focusing on his canvas. "I wonder what they've all made." He continues to focus on his artwork, diligently ensuring each stroke of his brush is perfect. Hatake Kakashi had yet to be bad at something in his life, so you already knew whatever he was envisioning was going to come out onto that canvas exactly as planned.
You allow Kakashi the time to continue his work and take on the task of getting each student cleaned up on your own. At their current age, they mostly were able to keep themselves free of the paint, save for a few dots here and there on their hands.
"Naruto..." You sigh, rubbing your face tiredly. Even with an apron that was bigger than his little body, he managed to get paint on his face, arms, and the shoulder of his t-shirt. You already know his mother, Kushina, would tear into him when his father brought him home from school. Minato picks the boy up every day, ever since the incident with Naruto and the mud pies happened when his mother picked him up... She was still fully deserving of her title as the Red-Hot Habanero that she'd been given when you were in grade school with her, you learned that day.
Naruto pouts and averts your gaze. It seemed he was also well aware of his mother's ire, but he just wasn't able to control himself enough to avoid the consequences just yet. You offer your hand and take him inside to clean up, and when you're done he runs to join up with his friends on the playground. "Don't get dirty again!" It was a fruitless demand, but you at least had to try.
"As if that could ever happen." Kakashi snorts. Seemed he'd finished his task while you were cleaning up Naruto.
"All I can do is try." You sigh with a shrug and start walking around the tables to get a look at everyone's artwork.
You pause in front of Sasuke's canvas. With a deep sigh, your hand absentmindedly moves over your heart, the other coming to rub against where your baby's just kicked you. Sasuke's painted himself with a first-aid kit in one hand and a medical degree in the other, a big smile on his face. His dream is to become a doctor and cure the disease that's befallen his elder brother, Itachi. You were Itachi's teacher as well when he was Sasuke's age, and to think that a bright young boy like him would become too frail and sick to achieve his true potential was enough to bring tears to your eyes. Sasuke is determined to cure his big brother, and you know nothing will stand in his way.
"Hopefully he's given the chance." Kakashi murmurs, looking at the painting from over your shoulder. He presses a swift kiss to the back of your head, snaking a hand around your midsection to hold your body to his, running his hand over your belly in a wide, swift stroke before he continues his journey around the table.
Gaara painted himself and Naruto playing at the beach, building a sandcastle together. Sakura and Ino both painted themselves holding hands with Sasuke, though you could tell they'd sabotaged one another by swirling green paint through each other's drawings of themselves. You sigh and shake your head; you really hope one day they'll grow out of their rivalry that merely exists because of a boy of all people and become wonderful women with their own motivations. And if they don't, they are set to be in for one tough ride with Mrs. Tsunade Senju when they got to high school.
"Choji needs a hobby." Kakashi muses. The boy's canvas reflects a rather delicious looking meal, but then again, that's what he always turns in for artwork projects.
"Eating is his hobby." You snicker, gazing at Shikamaru's work of art, a lazy attempt at drawing the sky. The paper is simply painted blue, with a yellow circle for the sun and puffy clouds outlined in black. He hadn't even filled in the clouds with white paint! "Shikamaru could use some of Choji's inspiration, that's for sure."
"Sure..." Kakashi keeps eyeing Choji's artwork. "Let's go out for dinner tonight." He murmurs.
"Only if you're buying."
Your husband shrugs noncommittally. "It's a date."
You smile and move beside him, squeaking softly when he puts his arm around you and pulls you into his side, a large hand rubbing the side of the swollen tummy housing his child. "'Kashi…"
"Hmmm?" He hums, not taking his eyes off the students as they play on the playground.
"PDA, with the students so close?"
It isn't a secret you two are married. Of course all of the staff know about it; you two married just one year after you started working at Konoha Elementary. You met in and dated throughout college, and now you're heavily pregnant with your first child together. Hell, if the students were astute enough to put two and two together when they learned both of your last names, they could have figured it out themselves ages ago. In every school year there's eventually a turning point where the students realize your relationship; so far this particular set of students haven't figured it out.
"Shhh... Enjoy the moment. One day that'll be our little darling out there. Playing with their friends..." Kakashi's dark eyes are practically swimming in eagerness and pride. He has such high hopes for the baby, and plans to help them succeed in any way possible. Hatake Kakashi had yet to be bad at something in his life, and he won't let insecurities with himself and his relationship with his father cloud his ability to care for his own child.
You laugh softly. "Not for quite some time, 'Kashi. They aren't even born yet!"
"Time is made up, but it passes in the blink of an eye." He mumbles, eyes still carefully watching the kids.
"You do have a point." You hum and keep a watchful eye over the students, allowing them to play without interruption.
After some time, you cup your hands around your mouth. "Alright everyone, let's come and present our pictures!"
The students eagerly run back over and sit in front of their now dried paintings. "You don't all have to present, but those that do want to are encouraged to do so!" You smile sweetly at all those little faces. This bunch of kids are so special. They're so smart and silly and good friends to one another. It's been a while since you liked a class this much.
Naruto leads the charge, naturally, and then various students volunteer to share after. Everyone gets a turn to present, and you rub your belly as you show the kids your painting. "This is my kitty, Julian!"
"He's so cute!" Sakura squeals. You grin and put your picture down, thanking the class as they compliment your artwork.
"Does anyone else want to share?"
"Mr. Kakashi, I wanna see yours! You never share!" Ino pouts, crossing her arms.
The rest of the kids cheer and pout with her, demanding to see what he spent so long working on. Kakashi laughs nervously and runs his fingers through his silver hair, cheeks tinged red. He glances at you and you smile softly, nodding encouragingly. He carefully picks up his watercolor work and holds it up for the class.
"Wooooooow…" The students hum in harmony, amazed at what a great job their teacher did.
He's put extra care into this, that much is obvious. It's of a very pregnant woman holding hands with a silver-haired man, the both of them smiling. You wipe a stray tear from your eye and rub at your belly, gazing at your husband with all the love in your heart.
"Hey…" Naruto cocks his head, perking a brow. "Mr. Kakashi, that looks like you!"
"It is." Kakashi responds simply.
"And…" His lips twist as he puts the pieces together. But ultimately it's Shikamaru that figures it out.
His eyes go wide with shock. "That's him and Mrs. Hatake!"
"Mr. Kakashi!" Ino scolds Kakashi. "That's weird!"
"How is that weird??" Kakashi holds his hands up, failing to fight his urge to laugh at the accusation.
"You're making it seem like…" Sasuke starts quietly, and Gaara finishes his sentence. "Like you love Mrs. Hatake."
"Well, I do love her. She is my wife, after all."
You, frankly, were not prepared for all of the screaming. Laughter bubbles out of you as the kids crowd around, asking questions a mile a minute and looking between you and your husband like you suddenly sprouted tails. Kakashi can't even hide his amusement and does his best to answer all of the questions.
"We met in college."
"We've been married for five years."
"I did not tell a single lie to you guys. You just never asked my last name."
"Yes, I've heard her fart."
"Thaaaaaat's enough." You scowl at your laughing husband. "Time to head back inside for dismissal."
"Awww…" The kids hang their heads low and pick up their paintings, lining up to go back inside. You and Kakashi lead the way back, your classrooms across the hall from each other.
Kakashi smirks and sneaks in a quick kiss to your lips, which prompts the students to lose it once again. You snort and pat his cheek twice, perhaps with a little more force than normal as revenge, and then move into your classroom.
Kakashi laughs to himself and does the same, his chest light and happy. And once the students have left the building, he meets you in your classroom, leaning on the doorframe and watching you quickly fill in the perfect scores in your gradebook. You glance over and blow him a kiss, which he catches and places into his shirt pocket.
"So, where are you taking me?" You ask, filing away the book and gathering your purse.
"I was thinking ramen?"
"Hmm, I like that train of thought. Might keep you around just a bit longer now."
Kakashi chuckles, stepping towards you with his hands in his pockets and a small smirk on his face. "Just a bit?"
"Might let you stay longer if you rub my feet tonight." You purr with a little laugh, taking his extended hand so you can stand up easier. Kakashi wastes no time in capturing your lips, rubbing your swollen baby bump with both hands and massaging lightly. He's always been clear with his love, but ever since your belly started growing bigger and bigger, he's been unable to stop himself from showering you with more and more love and attention.
"If that's what it takes…" He says against your lips, kissing you for a moment more before he continues. "I'll rub anything you want for the rest of my days."
You smile against him and rub his chest. "C'mon. Get me outta here already; this bra can't come off soon enough."
Your husband smirks and pulls at the clasps through your shirt, somehow unlatching the three hooks. You gasp, affronted at the audacity of that man. Kakashi, however, howls in laughter as his long legs rush him out the room and towards the car, his silver hair falling in his eyes as you're helpless to chase him in your current state. You shake your head with a small chuckle and lock up the classroom before heading out yourself.
That's alright, You think to yourself.
Just for that he's grading all my kid's homework next week!

Hi~ Your writing is so so good, I can't believe I just found your blog now but I'm glad I did. I'd love to request if that's ok? A Neji x fem reader (if it's okay, Uchiha!reader, but I'm happy if not) where the Hyuga clan don't approve of their relationship, Hiashi threatens her to leave him and it kills her to do so. Angst but happy ending when Neji finds out and finds the reader again. I hope that's okay. Thank you again for your beautiful writing! ❤️❤️
author’s note: words cannot describe how hard I fell in love with this idea the second I’ve read it! (which is probably why it became so long, I just couldn't stop the story flowing heh, really sorry! x) For the purposes of this, I wrote f!reader as the sister of Sasuke and Itachi (hope that's okay). I really hope you enjoy and thank you so much for requesting! <3
warnings: angst with a happy ending + Neji is alive after the war (in this blog this is the only correct answer when it comes to Neji!)
Tumblr media
The clock loudly struck midnight when you finally reached the doors to the gardens and pushed them open. Expertly navigating the maze of rose bushes, your bare feet hurriedly carried you toward the small house in the distance, the only safe space you could think of.
Your breath was rigid, your cheeks were flushed and your eyes stayed focused ahead, too scared to look back, in case that slowed you down. The muscles in your legs started to burn and begged you to stop for a rest, yet you couldn't afford even a second to spare.
You couldn't see him, but you knew he was near. One wrong step was all it took for him to catch up with you and you were not one to give up without a fight. Pushing the last bit of energy you had left, you squeezed the middle of your night dress in your fists, lifting it and making it easier to make longer strides.
You could see it clearly now - the smallest house of the Uchiha compound, used for newlyweds before the massacre, now standing lonely as your only hope to hide. It was so close, that your arms instinctively reached forward, eager to touch the wooden rail as a sign of reached safety.
Just seconds before you could do that, two strong arms circled your waist, lifting you up in the air and turning you around. You thrashed and kicked in the person's embrace, successfully bringing both of you down, yet he somehow found himself on top of you, quickly pinning your hands above your head.
"Looks like I won", the words came out smugly of his lips, his breathing calm and collected, almost like he hadn't been chasing you around the compound for the last fifteen minutes, "again."
You, on the other hand, were still trying to compose yourself, your lips forming an unhappy pout. He seemed to find your expression amusing, as he lifted himself into a seated position, his pale lavender eyes boring intensely into your black ones.
“You cheated”, you accused him, wiggling under his weight in an attempt to free yourself from his strong hold, “You used the Byakugan.”
Your movements stopped, your body feeling too tired to fight back. His grip also eased but did not disappear completely.
“A bold accusation”, the corners of his lips lifted in a small smirk, “and totally untrue.”
Neji finally let you go, plopping on the grass next to you, his eyelids closing at the feeling of the gentle night breeze that kissed his warm skin. You couldn't help but sneak a glance at him, admiring his almost ethereal beauty. The moonlight was shining upon him, creating the illusion that his face was glowing, while his long dark hair formed a large halo around his head. The bandage around his forehead was gone, his curse mark now a sign of pride and self-acceptance, rather than shame.
He looked like an angel. And for you, he certainly was one.
Growing up as the youngest remaining member of the Uchiha clan, your path in life was pre-determined to be filled with hate and pain. A lonely path, which you could only share with Sasuke, who was just a year older when the massacre happened. Witnessing the death of everyone you loved led you to form a shared belief that the only true purpose in life is to get revenge.
Your brother must have known it was wrong, even when he was obsessed with the idea of hunting Itachi down himself. Why else would he try to shield you from the life of a shinobi, forbidding you from attending the academy? Why would he try to stop you from leaving Konoha with him, throwing hateful words at you in an attempt to push you away? Why would he battle Itachi by himself, crying in your arms afterward, seeking comfort and forgiveness for his actions?
If you could be described with one word, however, that would be stubborn. Which is why you never gave up on trying to train your jutsu techniques in secret from your brother, nor did you leave his side once he joined Orochimaru. Despite the creepy feeling of uneasiness and fear you felt during these years, you always stayed loyal to Sasuke and you shared a goal, even going as far as to fight his old comrades once they found you and tried to convince you to go back with them.
You were not nearly as strong as Sasuke, due to his overprotectiveness and attempts to stop you from developing your skills further, yet during your late teenage years you found your strength lied in your skill to manipulate, rather than your skill to throw punches.
Everyone wanted an Uchiha woman.
Maybe it was a sick dream or a competitive spirit that men had over who could capture the attention of the last pure-blood female wielder of the Sharingan. Or maybe they carried a false idea that by getting you, they would somehow manage to connect their clans to yours, thus contributing to a new generation of exceptionally gifted and skilful ninja.
Whatever the reason was, it was clearly not because any of them liked you or cared about you in the slightest. Half of them could not even remember your first name and the rest found your bloodline way more interesting than your personality.
But with your main goal being extracting information about Itachi, and later about Danzo, Obito, and Madara, you gladly entertained such illusions, charming them with your fake innocence and cunning methods of easing them into trusting you. Your increasing knowledge of using genjutsu has also made it easier for you to aid your brother, without the need to spill blood and physically get into a fight.
Something, which turned out to be extremely valuable, once you participated in the Fourth Ninja War.
"Hey...", Neji's voice brought you back to reality and you lifted your eyes to him, noting the slight crease of concern between his brows, "Are you feeling okay?"
You nodded your head, suddenly embarrassed by the fact he caught you zoning out while staring at him. Turning your body to the side, you laid your chin on one of your hands, while the other one reached out to brush a piece of hair that fell in the middle of his forehead.
"Yeah", you said quietly, giving him a small smile, "I am now."
He stared at you for a few seconds, trying to trace any signs of lying on your face, before his hand wrapper around yours and brought it from his forehead to his lips. A gentle kiss was laid on each of your knuckles and you suddenly felt your chest being filled with a pleasant warmth.
Kami, you could live a hundred lifetimes and you still wouldn't deserve this man!
The love that blossomed between you two was unexpected and powerful, sweeping both of you off your feet. What started as him reluctantly agreeing to help you and Sasuke settle back into the village's life after you were pardoned for your crimes, soon turned into a passionate love affair between both of you.
Sneaking out during the darkest hours of the night, communicating only with glances in public, and finding excuses to train in secluded places in the forest were now usual things for both. Sasuke realised long ago there was something going on between you two, especially after you refused his invitation to join him on his travels abroad and chose to stay by yourself in the large compound. Still, he never directly addressed it, happy that you found someone who was appreciating you for you, not for the last name you carried.
A few members of the Hyuuga clan also realised there was a reason for Neji's suddenly distant behaviour. Hinata, being the first to accidentally catch Neji sneaking past midnight out of his room and jumping over the neighbouring wall their family shared with the Uchiha property, was not really that shocked or surprised. She knew that her cousin has actually harboured some form of crush on you, after you selflessly protected him and Naruto during the war, and she was glad you returned his affection.
Hiashi, on the other hand, has also connected the dots and was far from happy. As the strongest young male of the clan, Neji was being groomed into one day taking over the position of the leader, something which both his daughters appeared too timid and weak to take over. His relationship with you, regardless if it was serious or not, was not only a risk to him, but to the whole Hyuga clan, who valued the purity of their family bloodline.
And while he never said anything to his nephew, he watched him through his window night after night, sneaking once the moon was high up the sky and coming back just minutes before sunrise. Something had to be done and it had to be done soon, before you became a bigger threat. Thankfully, Hiashi knew just how to deal with pests like you.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Are you coming tonight?", you murmured in his neck, your breath tickling the soft skin. The grip of his fingers tightened on your waist and you couldn't help but smirk after you felt his breath hitching, knowing well that if you looked up you would find a pink blush covering his cheeks.
Neji hummed, his lips trailing from your temple down to your cheek, landing a few light kisses while doing so. You squirmed at the ticklish feeling, a low chuckle leaving your lips. The man closed his eyes at the sound, which sounded like a music to his ears. He often imagined what it would be like to wake up to it, once you become his lawful wife. Would your children also carry such melodic and hypnotising voice? He really hoped so.
"When have I ever missed?", his brow lifted in question and your lips immediately stretched into a wide smile, before pressing themselves to his. He tasted sweet like honey and you found yourself getting lost in the feeling of his mouth moving against yours. Both of your heads tilted in the opposite directions at the same time, one of his palms gently cupping your jaw to keep your head steady.
After a minute, you both felt the need to inhale oxygen and pulled away from each other, the feeling of the lost of contact already making you whine.
"You are either going to be either my death or my paradise", his soft gaze landed on yours and he landed one more kiss to your mouth, before pressing his forehead to yours, "If I don't leave now, I will surely be caught. The majority of the elders wake up with the first rays of sunshine."
Knowing there was no point to argue or beg him to stay, you nodded your head, already feeling eager for the sun to go down so you can see your lover again. You wished you could proudly show your love to the world and claim him as yours, without having to hide and pretend. And while he has assured you before that he is ready to have your relationship public, you still felt insecure about how people and more importantly his family would react.
You may have been pardoned, but you were still considered an ex-criminal by the laws of the village. Many people were still cautious about you and Sasuke, raising the concern that inevitably you or the future generations of Uchiha would bring more trouble. Some of them tried to reason with the Hokage that it is best if you are forced to move outside the village. One of these people was also Hiashi, who also felt that due to the fact the Hyuga compound was neighbouring yours, they would have to more or less keep an eye on you, thus wasting valuable time and resources.
Given the obvious dislike of his uncle towards you and the fact that Neji was having enough stress in his preparation to become the next leader of the clan, you couldn't risk to taint his reputation or chances to finally rip he fruits of his years of suffering and hard work. So you kept insisting you meet in private, telling him you would be ready once a little bit more time passes.
"I love you", you whispered against his lips as your final goodbye, before stepping away and opening the door to the gardens. Neji's face visibly relaxed and he rubbed his nose against yours, his own little gesture of affection, which you knew carried twice as much feelings as any kiss.
"I love you, too", he replied, finally stepping outside and looking at the dark orange colour of the sky in the distance. He turned to you one last time, obviously wishing to steal just a few more seconds in your presence, "Get some rest. You haven't slept at all through the whole night."
You rolled your eyes and were about to reply that he had not slept at all as well, but the moment you opened your mouth, he was already walking towards the end wall you shared with the Hyuga. A small smile graced your lips while you watched him climb it, before disappearing on the other side. With his presence gone, the need for sleep caught up with you and you soon made your way towards your room, slipping under the warm blankets and into the world of dreams.
You were not sure for how long you were asleep for. Maybe it was an hour or maybe it was two, but what you knew was that it wasn't for long before you were forced awake by loud banging on your door. Your initial reaction was to ignore it - it was probably Naruto or Sakura, wishing to train with you or grab lunch. If you didn't answer after the first few minutes, they were bound to give up.
The banging, however, persisted and it became louder and louder the more you tried to ignore it. Letting a silent puff under your breath, you kicked your covers away and grabbed your dark blue house kimono from the chair next to you bed, before tightening it around your night gown. You lazily made your way towards the door, trying to rub away the sleep from your eyes.
You didn't had to try for long, since as soon you opened the door, you became wide awake and alert.
"Lord Hyuga?", what was supposed to be a greeting came out more as a question and the old man grumbled in response, his eyes travelling from your messy black locks down to your bare feet. You tried to fix your appearance a bit, pushing your hair back and putting on the first slippers you managed to locate, which happened to be Sasuke's.
"Uchiha", he said your last name with a sour expression on his face, "Can I come in?"
Realising you were yet to invite him in, you cleared your throat and nodded your head.
"Of course, please!", you moved to the side and Hiashi did not waste even a second before pushing past you and heading toward the first open door he saw, which happened to be the one of the living room. You closed the door, but not before you scanned the visible area in front of your house.
He seemed to have come alone. Weird.
“Can I get you anything, Lord Hyuga? Tea? Water?”, you tried to ignore the cold glare he was giving you, instead keeping your tone as polite as possible. The man shook his head, instead pointing toward the seat in front of him as a silent gesture for you to sit. Your eyes danced a few times between him and the chair before giving in at his request.
“You are a smart woman, which is why I’m going to cut straight to the point”, his posture straightened and his chest puffed a bit forward, an obvious way of him claiming the more dominant role in your dialogue, “I want you to leave Neji alone.”
Your eyes immodestly widened and your throat felt dry, squeezing around nothing. Your finger clutched the ends of your kimono belt, digging your nails into the soft fabric while your brain rapidly tried to come up with a response to his blunt words.
“Wh-what?”, you finally managed to let out the question, mixed with a nervous laugh, “I don’t know what you are talking about, Lord Hyuga.”
Were you supposed to admit to your affair? To deny it? Has Neji told him or did he somehow caught him in the act of sneaking? Many questions kept flooding inside your brain, the whole situation catching you completely off guard.
Hiashi clicked his tongue in annoyance, not appreciating the fake oblivion you were trying to sell him. “Typical Uchiha”, he thought to himself, before shaking his head.
“Your little tricks may work on my naive nephew, but I already have experience with the snakes from your clan”, he said harshly, looking you through narrowed eyes, “You are neither as cunning or sneaky as you think. I know you have been in a relationship with Neji for the past year and a half and I am here to tell you that whatever you have going on is ending tonight."
Losing your composure was something which almost never happened to you. Perhaps the years living among the biggest criminals in the world has hardened your personality and you knew how to keep yourself collected under pressure and threats.
But now, under his cold glare and harsh demand, you felt something inside of you snapped and your Sharingan involuntarily activated, the confused expression on your face now transformed into a serious one. You held his eyes and with a deep breath you relaxed the tight grip you had on your robe, laying your palms flatly on the table in front of you instead.
"Are you threatening me, Lord Hyuga?", your head tilted to the side, the dynamic between you clearly shifting, "Because last time I checked I have no reason to explain myself to you, let alone listen to your commands."
"Ah, there she is", he simpered, looking pleased with the fact he managed to provoke such a defensive reaction from you. Staring at your red eyes, he leaned forward, laying his own two hands opposite yours on the table.
"Maybe not", he shrugged his shoulders, "But I want you to think about my next question and give an honest answer."
A few seconds of silence followed, before he opened his mouth again:
"Do you believe, even for one second, that you would ever be good enough for Neji?"
The words hit your deeper than expected. Pressing your lips into a thin life, your whole body visibly tensed, the truth of his words suddenly hitting you like a ton of bricks.
Neji was a strong, hard-working and honest man, who had strong moral values and sense of loyalty. Did you deserve such a partner after everything you have done? No.
But you were not willing to give up on him either. You had no idea why fate made him fall in love with you, but you were not about to throw it away just because someone felt threatened by it.
Sensing that you won't reply to his question, Hiashi continued:
"You may have a few gifted exceptions such as Madara or your brothers, who all went down in a questionable path", he mused, "but the Hyuga remains being the strongest clan in Konoha. A position which we held and will continue holding due to our strong sense of community and the duty we feel to look after one another."
You couldn't help but raise your brow at his words and narrow your eyes.
"A duty which you did not feel toward the members of the branch family, including your own brother", you bit back, knowing where to hit so it hurts the most. Your verbal attack seemed to be successful, as his facial muscles hardened and his whole look became darker.
"There is no division in the family no more", he hissed through his gritted teeth, questioning how open Neji has been to you through the course of your relationship. You obviously had an insight of how the family used to work and while he felt he shouldn't hold that against his nephew, he couldn't help but feel betrayed by the fact the matter was discussed with an outsider.
"Not thanks to you", your tone matched his, "It is Neji who pushed for this change, it is him who will completely unite the Hyuga clan."
Hiashi chuckled dryly at your words, surprisingly nodding his head.
"And where is your role in this, you think?", pushing himself back into a straight position, he looked at you with humour in his pale eyes, maybe even a bit of pity, "A woman from a clan, famous for producing mentally unstable individuals, who either start wars or betray their village."
Your hands immediately tightened into fists, nails digging at the soft flesh of your palms. With a deep breath and teeth sinking deep inside your lower lip, you tried your best to control the rising rage inside your body.
"You don't know anything-"
"I know that even now you are barely holding back", he interrupted, his voice louder than before, "Do you think that we will not only let someone like you in the family, but also let them marry to the future leader of the clan? That we would risk having future heirs who possess the Sharingan, rather than the Byakugan?"
The sudden realisation of your potential future made you freeze. You never really though about children or how your future may look like, but it was now clear to you that Hiashi was, indeed, right.
As long as Sasuke found someone to settle with and produced heirs, your clan was bound to continue to exist and be restored. The Uchiha have powerful bloodline, which even when mixed with someone who is not part of the clan, overpowered the other genes. This why you knew that a few generations in the future, your family was about to be brough back to its original numbers prior to the massacre.
The Hyuga clan, however, could not risk their clan leader producing an Uchiha heir. While having pretty strong genes themselves, it was really a half-half chance what the child is going to be. Odds, which were not good enough, especially for a clan that valued purity so much.
The man stood up, making his way toward the door, while leaving you to think over his words.
"If you don't care about yourself and your reputation, which is damaged enough already anyway...", he stopped by the door, giving you one last look, "Then think about Neji. I may have no control over you, but I can promise you that he will not become the leader of the clan if you continue to pose a risk to our family, nor he will remain a member of it."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The air felt colder than the previous night, dark clouds slowly floating and covering the bottom half of the moon. Leaning against the wooden railing of the main house's terrace, you starred up the sky, wondering what your life would be if you were born into a different lifestyle. With different parents, siblings and without the curse of hatred.
How easy life would be then... No rules, no regrets. Just freedom.
Soft fingers brushed your hair aside and you jumped at the feeling of someone standing behind you. Turning around you found Neji, who quickly retracted his hand once he noticed your jumpy reaction.
"My flower", he gently smiled at you, closing the distance and attempting to kiss your lips, but landing on your cheek instead after you turned your head last minute. Immediately furrowing his brows, he grabbed your face in his hands and turned it towards him, his eyes immediately noticing the lack of excitement that usually radiated from you every time you saw him.
"What's wrong?", the young man wasted no time enquiring, the bluntness of his words reminding you of that of his uncle. You tried to smile, but your heart did not allow you to fake your emotions before him. There was no point either way - Neji was excellent at reading people, especially you. Sometimes you felt he knew you better than you knew yourself.
"Walk with me", was all you replied, before stepping back and walking down the stairs. When you noticed he was not following, but remained in his place, you extended one of your hands toward him, "Please."
He stared at you unsure what he should do, but eventually he followed you, frowning when you retracted your hand before he could grab it. You walked in silence between the small houses forming the Uchiha compound, before he tried to quiz you again:
"Did I do something? Are you upset with me?"
You shook your head, your heart ripping apart inside of your ribcage at the thought that he was torturing himself with the idea that he had done something wrong. Your pain also increased knowing what were you about to do was going to crush both of your souls.
"Of course not", you denied, "I just... I really want to show you something."
Neji glanced at you again, not saying anything. One quality that you admired about him was his patience - he was not pushy or assertive, instead he always gave you space when he felt like you may need it. Just like he was doing now.
Reaching the end of the compound, you found yourself standing in front of small memorial temple, the Uchiha symbol, painted over the double doors, was now dusty and in places - completely missing.
"I haven't been here since I was a kid", you smiled sadly, going up the few steps and entering the small space with Neji following cautiously behind. He knew what the building was - his own clan had a very similar temple in their own compound, a way for the family members to seek guidance and comfort from their ancestors in times of great need. Unlike his, however, the Uchiha temple was dark, dusty and covered with webs - a sign that not only you haven't visited in a long time, but neither had Sasuke or any other person.
You made your way towards the middle, grabbing what was once a candle, but now was just a piece of melted white wax.
"I came here the day before me and Sasuke left the village", you said, your eyes moving up the large stone in the centre of the temple, where the names of all of the deceased Uchiha members prior the massacre were neatly written in a big list, "I asked for guidance, for some type of advice... yet I was met only with silence. Maybe this is why I found myself taking the wrong path."
Neji kneeled next to you, his hand finding yours and giving you an assuring squeeze of his fingers.
"Yet here you are", he calmly stated, his free hand wiping the dust away from the altar from where you picked the candle from, "You found yourself and you came back home. That is something that not everyone can do."
You let him hold you, his words of comfort making your eyes sting. Yet, you refused to cry, not wanting to scare him. Instead, you took a deep breath, before reaching to your dress pocket and getting out a new candle and a box of matches. You carefully placed it in the middle of the altar and lighten it.
You lifted your gaze towards the stone with names, the only one you recognized being the ones of your grandparents written right at the bottom. Your memories of them were somewhat lost in the fog of time, yet you tried your best to keep them alive in your mind, as well as the rest of your family.
"Maybe. But this is not why I brought you here", for the first time this evening you looked at him straight in the eyes, "I wanted to..."
The words died in your throat and Neji gave a gentle squeeze to your hand, a reassurance that you can take as long as you need to tell him whatever was on your mind.
"My flower, don't feel the need to-"
"I can't be with you anymore."
His hand suddenly withdrew as if your skin burned him and you desperately fought the instinct to reach out to him. He remained silent, studying your face with his brows furrowing more and more, till there was a deep crease between them.
"Y/N...", your name rolled out way too calmly for your liking, "Tell me what is going on."
Your face remained stoic, the fear of accidentally indicating even with the slightest twitch that you are lying paralyzing every muscle you had. Dragging your tongue across your dry lips, you took a deep breath, before repeating the same story you have been rehearsing for hours that day.
"My ancestors have showed me the truth", you stood up, gaze focused on the stone before you, "I have a duty towards the future generations to ensure the survival of my clan and my bloodline."
Your lover quickly followed your movements, but instead focused his attention on you. You heard him loudly gulp, before speaking:
"I assume the "truth" they have showed you does not involve me."
Neji has always been smart, often too smart for his own good. Which is why it didn't take him longer than few seconds to feel the direction in which you were trying to stir the conversation. You remained looking at one unspecific spot in front of you, still trying to contain the tears that threatened to spill any moment.
"With Sasuke gone, I am the one who is in charge of this clan", your back straightened more and more with each word, your body turning to face his, "It is my duty to ensure that the future leader will possess the Uchiha genes."
Something in his jaw worked and his eyes narrowed just a bit, a sign he was analysing something.
"Are you pregnant?"
A faint blush covered your cheeks at his question and you shook your head 'no'. You and Neji had been intimate a few times in the past, but you have always been careful.
"No, of course not!"
"Then why are you doing this?", his arms crossed in front of his chest, "Because you had a dream?"
The way he said it sounded almost mocking and you gave him a glare, suddenly feeling stupid after realizing how absurd it sounded. Maybe you should've come with a different story, about how you were going to travel with your brother or something.
"It was a guidance."
"Your ancestors didn't gave you a guidance when you needed it most and but suddenly they feel concerned if you future children are going to be Uchiha?"
His voice was getting lower, while his face remained serious, and you quickly understood that his patience was starting to run thin. Neji was an understanding man, but he was no fool - he knew when somebody was trying to lie to him, especially when that somebody was you.
"Perhaps the guidance comes when it is needed, not when it is sought."
"Don't lie to me!", his calm exterior cracked and he grabbed your hand, turning you toward him, "Everything was fine this morning and suddenly you feel like we are not good together anymore? All because of the idea of children, which we don't even have?"
"Does it not bother you?", your voice raised as well, "The idea that your successor may not be Hyuga? The idea that you would betray your clan?"
Neji remained silent and his hand slowly removed itself from you. A sudden wave of coldness hit you once his warm touch was gone. He studied your face, carefully examining each movement you made.
"Did anyone from my clan come to visit you?"
So he has put the pieces together. You should have expected this... It was now or never! You had one chance to execute your lie perfectly. C'mon, Y/N! You have been tricking men all your life, just calm your nerves, look into his eyes and... strike.
"We had fun time, Neji", a small apologetic smile danced on your lips and your hand reached to his crossed arms, laying on top of them, "But it is time to think about the future! And having fun is not enough for me to keep pretending anymore... The same way it was not enough for all these that tried before you."
The more you talked, the more distressed he started to appear. He was trying to hide it well, but the way he was biting the inside of his lips and the nervous twitch of his toes were enough for you to know how he really felt.
"You are lying...", it sounded like he tried to reassure himself, rather than confront you.
"I was", you shrugged your shoulders, "But not anymore. It is time to be honest with each other."
"You said you love me-"
"I said what I knew you needed to hear."
That triggered something in him and he looked at you with disgust, before stepping away from you. Turning his back, you could see him taking deep breaths in attempt to calm himself. You closed your eyes, unable to witness the pain you have caused him.
"The stuff they said about you...they are all true, aren't they?", his voice came out quiet and you almost missed it with the sound of the wind outside, "About how you tricked men, women and children, just to further the agenda of hatred you shared with your brother! How you used people's kindness only to stab them in the back once you no longer need them! How villages were burn and people were exiled, because they were foolish enough to trust you..."
You couldn't keep your tears anymore and you let out a loud sob, rubbing the sleeve of your top against your eyes. But unlike the usual comfort Neji provided in moments like this, the only thing he offered you was a glare mixed with disgust and anger.
"Why are you crying?", he rhetorically asked, scoffing at your behaviour, "Do you want me to feel bad for you? After you ripped my heart out and stomped on it just so you can have "fun time"?"
Choosing to move your eyes to your shoes instead, you watched your tears falling on the cold stone below. You always thought you knew what pain was having lost so much since such an early age... But what you felt at this moment was the most excruciating feeling you have ever experienced.
Shaking his head, Neji let out a sigh, before he closed the distance and wrapped one of his arms around your shoulder.
"Shit, I...", it was the first time you ever heard him swear and it surprised you, "You have no idea how much I hate you right now... and how much I hate myself for the fact I can't bear the sight of you being upset."
Your knees gave up under you and if it wasn't for Neji, holding you, you would've collapsed on the ground. Hearing him say he hate you was the final drop in the already overflowing pool of emotions you were feeling, but you couldn't be mad at him. You hated yourself too, probably more than he could ever do.
Staying intervened with each other, you tried to burn the feeling of his body against yours into your mind, so you had a bittersweet moment to cherish for the rest of your life. Because no matter what happened with you, Neji or even Hiashi, you knew that there was no going back.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Weeks passed and Neji never came back, neither you saw him in public. You didn't even remember when he left on the day you ended your relationship, all you could remember was him carrying your tired body inside, before laying you down and leaving without another word.
Neji, however, saw you. Every morning when you were leaving your house for groceries. Every evening, when he was walking home with Lee and TenTen after training and he could see the outline of your silhouette walking around the house through your window.
The young Hyuga has always been somewhat reserved and cold, especially to people he didn't know. But since that day he started shutting everyone out - his teammates, his family, even his sensei. And no matter how hard they tried to reach out to him and find out what was going on, he refused to let anybody in, instead focusing all his energy in either doing solo missions or training.
The only person that could make sense of Neji's current state was Hiashi, who after a few weeks of watching his nephew push himself to the limit, decided it was time to have a talk with him.
"It is the Uchiha woman, isn't it?", he asked one day while watching over the compound with his hands clasped behind his back. He never even glanced at Neji, who looked at him with surprise, before pressing his lips into a thin line.
"I see", Hiashi said after the few seconds of silence, "They have this strange aura about them. It's almost like they are luring you in, trying to stray your attention away from what is really important... Her mother was the same."
The young man did not reply, instead eyed his uncle suspiciously. He waited for him to continue, but was met only with silence. After a while, he forced his gaze away and mimicked his position by moving his own arms behind him.
"I wouldn't know, uncle."
"Wouldn't you?"
It almost felt like time stopped and Neji held his breath. Hiashi continued to look ahead, appearing to all the other member of the family that passed by that he was just enjoying the peace of his own mind.
"That part of the wall that you kept climbing in order to sneak out is right under my window."
His nephew pressed his eyes closed and let out a small sigh. Did he feel disappointed because of the lack of care he was exercising? Yes. Was he surprised? No, not really. Hiashi seemed to have his way of knowing everything about the members of the clan - what were they doing, where were they, who were they with. Neji supposed this was one of his responsibilities as the clan leader.
"It is over, uncle", he said, feeling there is no point in lying or trying to come up with a story. The older man finally turned his attention to him, resting one of his hands on his shoulder.
"Then stop mourning over it", his finger gently squeezed Neji's shoulder, "She has made the right decision."
Hiashi offered the younger man a sympathetic smile, but in response he only received a blank stare. He could feel the muscles under his hand tense and he moved it away, feeling the hostile energy radiating from his nephew.
"How do you know it was her who made the decision?", Neji asked, his intuition already telling him the right answer.
For all the years he had the chance to observe his uncle, he has never seen him flustered. But now, as he was trying to convince him that he it was just a "guess", he noticed the red tips of his ears and the nervous twitch of his nose and he knew that for a fact he was right the first time.
A member of the Hyuga did indeed visit you.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You whole life was built on dependency. A harsh realization, but true. First it was your brother, then it was Neji - there has always been someone who has acted as your safe place, someone you can rely on and be vulnerable in front of.
With your sibling gone and your lover feeling nothing else other than hate towards you, you felt more alone than ever. Sure, you still had some friends visiting you, like Naruto or Ino, but nothing could fill the large gap you felt in your chest.
Every time you got tempted to tell the truth, you quickly reminded yourself that you did this for Neji's own good. You felt silly and stupid for even entertaining the idea that your romance could blossom into a marriage. Maybe you should've pushed him away the moment he told you that he doesn't "date" casually and he has serious intentions toward you, despite being together for only 6 months.
"I've known you for years", he said that day, "and 6 months are more than enough for me to know that there is no one else I want to spend my life with."
That was a year ago and you shouldn't know better. In a world build on old customs and traditions, where the only pursuit was power, there was no place for love.
7 weeks, 3 days and 13 hours have passed since you last saw the young Hyuga. You didn't want to count every passing minute, but it seemed your brain was automatically doing it for you as a reminder as to when have you committed the biggest mistake of your life.
You remained laying on your bed, eyes trained on a small black line on the wall. The memory of how it got there was fresh in your mind - you and Neji were making a list of all the places you wish to travel to one day, when you both started arguing if the Land of Water should be one of them. A verbal bickering soon turned into a tickling fight and you accidentally scratched your pen against the wall, leaving a mark on it. You were angry at him for making you leave such an ugly scratch on the white paint back then, but looking at it now you appreciated it as one of the few things that reminded you of him.
A loud knocking sounded around the house and you buried your head in your pillow.
"Not again, Naruto!", you groaned, your voice muffled in the soft material. The blonde has noticed you have been very cold and melancholic lately, thus making it its own personal mission to come and try to get you out of the house every single day. While you knew he had good intentions, you couldn't help but find his constant visits a bit annoying.
The knock sounded again and you huffed, standing up and throwing on yourself the first house robe you found laying nearby. Making your way downstairs the sound kept getting more persisting, as if the person on the other side was starting to lose their patience.
"Kami, Naruto, are you trying to break my door-", the words got stuck in your throat once you saw who was visiting you, "Neji?"
The man pushed his way past you, rubbing both his hands over his face. His usually perfect attire was wrinkly, his long hair was all over the place and the dark circles under his eyes hinted that he hasn't slept well for a while.
"You lied to me!", he exclaimed, the sudden loudness startling you, "You tried to sell me this stupid story of yours about your ancestors, and your guidance, and your future heirs... And it was so obvious you made it all on the spot! I can't believe I fell for all this nonsense!"
You remained quiet, not sure if he does expect any type of answer or explanation from you or if he just wanted to rant.
"Why did you not tell me he visited you?", he asked, turning towards you with angry eyes and you didn't need clarification about who "he" was. You didn't know how or when, but Neji must have found out about his uncle's visit to your house.
"Should I tell you every time someone drops at my house?", you wanted to light up the mood a bit, but given the annoyed glare the young man gave you, it seemed he did not appreciate your attempt for a joke. You let out a sigh, walking over to the living room:
"What difference would that have made?"
Neji followed you, letting a scoff at your words and crossing his arms.
"It would have given me the opportunity to tell you that you are absolutely out of your mind for listening to him", he argued, his voice cracking in the end. Never have you seen Neji so stressed and unable to control himself, and it did break your heart all over again to witness it.
"He just wants the best for you and the clan."
"If he did, he wouldn't have abolished the branch system so late", he countered straight away and you shut your mouth, knowing you can't argue with that point, "He is old and bitter man, who is so unhappy he tries to make everyone else unhappy."
The shock from his words must have been evident on your face, because Neji let out deep exhale, before crouching in front of you and taking your hands in his.
"I see you", his voice was now gentle and he looked into your eyes, "I don't care for your name or for your Sharigan, or for what you did in the past... I see the real you... and I love you."
The tears you have been fighting finally started sliding down your face and he got up from his position, cupping your cheeks and wiping them with his thumbs.
"I don't deserve... you", you hiccupped, resting your hands on top of his, "And I can allow for you to give up on the clan position because of me, I-"
"I don't care if I become a leader of the Hyuga or not", he interrupted you, eyes seeking yours, "I will give it up without a second thought if that means I can be with you."
"But if we have children-"
"I don't care about that, even if they had an additional third eye on the forehead and all of them were possessing the Sharingan", he assured you, caressing your now damp cheeks. After a second, he added:
"Okay, maybe I would care a little bit, but that is because it would freak me out if they have a third eye on their forehead."
A small laugh made its way past your lips and Neji smiled in return, wrapping his arms around you.
"I am sorry. I shouldn't have said the stuff I said about you."
"Don't be!", your face buried in his chest and you inhaled deeply the lavender smell you grew to love so much, "I should be the one apologizing, I... I just wanted to do what is the best for you. I wanted to protect you."
Neji whispered a quiet "I know" in your hair, while laying a few gentle kisses on top of your head. He kept you close to his body, relieved he finally had the opportunity to hold you again. If it wasn't for the sound of his heartbeat right next to your ear, you would have thought that all of this was just another one of your dreams.
"We are going to be okay", he mumbled, his hands rubbing your back up and down, "As long as we are together, we are going to be okay."
You hummed at his words, before moving your head and looking into his eyes. You have never noticed before, that despite despite the pale colour, there were still different shades of light blue, pink, purple and white in them. Almost like they were holding a small universe behind, you suddenly felt overwhelmed with all the love you felt for this man.
"I see you, Neji Hyuga", you repeated his earlier words, "and I love you."

Hi! Can I request a Naruto Shippuden x Fem!reader where the reader met them all and was this cheerful little girl who loved flowers but as they got older she left or to them she just more likely disappeared but when she came back she was this whole different person now.
Now she's a pretty quiet and calm girl with a powerful aura around her, and if you find a black rose then that means that she was in that place, so what I mean is since she sued to like flowers but not a black rose is kinda her sign now, so the black rose represents her.
Lets say for example she fights with someone and disappears, then there's a black rose on the ground, which means that she was there in that place.
Also she's known as the ~Black Rose~ Since she always leaves a black rose as a sign
Note: She was childhood friends with, Sasuke, Naruto and Sakura also knew her along with Ino but then when she came back they told the others about her (or you can do it in your way, I'll leave the rest to you)
Feel free to ignore this for whatever reason if you want <3

a/n: I want to say that this is the first request I have ever done, and I usually don’t take requests; I just write whatever I want to. However, I thought that this could be a chance to experience something new and depending on how this goes, I might do more requests in the future. But I need some time to figure out if this is a good thing to start or if I should keep doing what I’ve been doing. So for anyone it may concern, I’m trying to figure this whole “request” thing because it’s new to me. Thank you for understanding! Hope you enjoy!

“Do you know which flower this one is, Sakura?” The little girl asked her pink and blonde haired friends.
The pink haired girl shook her head but the blonde nodded.
“That is a Gladiolus!”
“That’s right, Ino! They come in red, pink, white, yellow and orange. But the most important thing is that they have medical properties, so the medic ninja use them all the time for healing.”
Sakura expressed her astonishment. “Wow, that’s so cool! You and Y/N sure know a lot about flowers.”
“Well what do you expect? My family does run a flower shop.” Ino grinned at Sakura with a little giggle following.
Then Y/N chirped in, “And I’ve been studying at the library. If you want Sakura, I’d be happy to teach you about flowers.”
Sakura gasped. “Would you really? Oh that sounds like so much fun!”
Y/N laughed happily, clapping her hands together at the same time. “Yeah! We’re gonna have lots of fun!”
With no effort, her eyes sprang open; staring tiredly at the wooden ceiling above.
She laid there a few more seconds before she forced her head to turn over to the right. On just the other wall, there was a small window with the light of the sun shining through; it was time to get up.
______
At the same time, many people of the village were getting up and ready, especially the Leaf ninja, prepared to be sent on missions.
Ino, after slipping into her uniform, walked out into the street to head straight to the Hokage’s office.
Despite the early hour, the village was already bustling with life. Many people were out shopping, organizing food stalls, and the like.
By this point in her life, Ino was really all that surprised anymore by the efficiency of the Leaf village. Everyone was always quick to start the day, even the regular citizens. It made being a ninja all the more worth it in her opinion; she could protect the prosperity of her home while doing what she’d always wanted to do.
As Ino was making her way down the dirt road, a familiar voice called out to her.
“Hey, Ino!”
Her violet eyes darted off the right, several feet in front of her there stood Sakura.
Ino smiled and waved at her. “Hey Sakura!”
The pink haired ninja suddenly came running over to her side, and then they both continued to walk together down the road. “Good morning.”
“Good morning. What are you doing up so early? I thought you had the day off today.” Ino asked curiously.
“I did, but Lady Tsunade suddenly summoned me. She said she had an important mission for me.” Sakura answered politely.
Ino made a noise, like a hum at the news. “Does it have anything to do with the hidden Waterfall village?”
“Yeah actually, it does.”
Ino looked over at her friend as they walked side by side. “It could be a serious mission then. Do you think she’ll combine our teams?”
“I’m not sure, it’s entirely possible.” Sakura said, moving her gaze back to the dirt path in front of her. “Guess we won’t know until we get there.”
“Yeah, guess so.” Ino agreed, not saying anything else for a couple of minutes. They continued down the path in silence for several more minutes when something just popped into Ino’s head.
“You know, it’s been three years.”
Sakura, knowing exactly what she was talking about, nodded (more to herself). “Since Y/N disappeared.”
Ino hummed again. “I can’t believe how much time has passed. So much has happened.”
“I know. The hardest part is not knowing if she’s okay or not, or if she’s even alive. It reminds me too much of when…” Sakura began to say, but paused as she felt her throat tighten up. “When Sasuke left.” Ino stopped in her tracks, resting her hand on Sakura’s shoulder and forcing her to stop as well. Her green eyes whipped up to meet Ino’s, seeing a look of sympathy on her face.
If anyone understood that feeling of hopelessness (besides Naruto), it would be Ino.
“Don’t worry too much about it, okay? Y/N is nothing like Sasuke; she’ll come back one day. I have faith.” The blonde ninja ressaured.
This made Sakura smile, and her body language indicated that she felt a bit better. “Thank you, Ino.”
Ino patted her shoulder a few times. “No problem. Now let’s hurry to Lady Tsunade’s office, or kill us for being late.”
Sakura laughed in response before heading towards the Hokage building, near the back of the village.
It took only a little while, but eventually Ino and Sakura made their way to the Hokage mansion, and stepped inside Tsunade’s office. Once they did, they saw Shikamaru, Choji, Naruto, and Sai already inside.
“Oh I’m sorry, M’Lady. Are we late?” Sakura apologized, a tad bit nervous that they’d get chewed out.
“No, in fact, I was just about to explain the mission.” Tsunade assured, then leading into the details. “As you may already be aware you all are going to be heading to the Hidden Waterfall village.”
Naruto perked up. “The Hidden Waterfall village?”
Tsunade nodded. “That’s right. I know that three years ago you escorted Lord Shibuki to his homeland safely, and now I’m asking you to return.”
“Please tell me that this doesn’t have anything to do with escorting his son to become the next leader, who’s just as cowardly as he was.” Naruto sighed, clearly annoyed.
“No, there have been reports of the Akatsuki sighted patrolling the village.”
Shikamaru chirped in. “So that’s why you’re assembling such a big team.”
“That’s correct. I don’t want to be taken by surprise, so that’s why I’m assigning all six of you to go and see if there is any truth to these reports. And with that, I’m also assigning you as squad leader, Shikamaru.” Tsunade explained, hands propped up on the desk, fingers intertwined. “You have half an hour to get ready and head to the Hidden Waterfall village, understood?”
“Understood!” Everyone in the room agreed at once and quickly headed out of the office.
Meanwhile, Y/N stalked a rogue shinobi from up in the massive forest, surrounding the Land of Fire.
He had no idea she was there, no inkling at all which made her one of the most efficient ninja in the Hidden Leaf Village.
And the fact that he was distracted with a meeting in the middle of the woods kept him occupied. He was speaking with five other people, exchanging stolen information about the Leaf with them. Though the other individuals were handing him back scrolls of what she assumed was information on other villages as well.
At least after she took down these ninja, she could find out what information was being sold off.
After about ten minutes, the five other shinobi shook hands with the rogue ninja and quickly scattered.
She watched the rogue one sit down onto the ground, taking out a water canister and unscrewing the top.
Being confident that he wasn’t going, Y/N made a hand sign and produced five clones. All of them (including the real Y/N)looked at each other and nodded.
The clones disappeared while Y/N remained inside the thick foliage of the tree leaves.
Her eyes centered on the rogue ninja, relaxing against the tree she was currently hiding in and then abruptly jumped down, colliding elegantly with the solid ground.
The man jumped back clearly startled by her appearance. “What the hell?!”
From her crouching position, Y/N’s sharp eyes, black masked face whip up to make direct, face to face contact with him. She hears the man gasp and try to reach into his bag for a weapon.
Before his hand can even make contact with the pouch, Y/N throws long, precision needles into the man’s arm; pinning him to the dirt.
The man lets out a shout of pain and his arm is pinned at a 90o angle, and stuck behind his back. “What do you want?!” Y/N approaches the man, completely unphased by his screams. Her domineering stance and quiet nature makes the man visibly sweat, and he finds it hard to make any kind of rational thought.
This woman, this woman right here was unlike anything he’d ever seen.
Completely silent in her approach, beautiful figure, graceful in the way she moved with deadly precision, dark eyes locked on him, and an aura that reeked power; unadulterated power.
Never in his life had he ever met a woman that was able to combine beauty with danger; it was a combination he believed didn’t exist and yet here it was.
Should he be scared or impressed? He wasn’t sure.
He tried to reach for another weapon with his other hand, but another, foreign hand had wrapped around his wrist and pinned it there.
When he turned his head to look, he saw that it was a clone of Y/N, a flurry of black rose petals appearing as quickly as the clone had. It piqued his curiosity.
“Don’t try that again.” Y/N finally said, voice low and smooth.
“I asked you what you wanted.” The man grunted out, trying now not to move around too much.
Y/N walked forward, slipped her hand into the side pocket of his uniform and pulled out a seal scroll with the information he traded for earlier. “I want this.”
He watched Y/N neatly put away the scroll into her back pouch before speaking. “You looking for information on other villages too?”
“Actually, I’m looking for those documents you stole from the Leaf, but if I happen to gain a bit of an advantage over another village then so be it,” She softly explains, tone never fluctuating.
Without warning, the man burst out laughing. “Oh, I’m sorry! I’m afraid that those pretty little documents are already on their way out of the Land of Fire.”
Finally, Y/N’s voice changed when she hummed in amusement. “I wouldn’t be too sure about that.”
As soon as she finished, four clones then appeared at Y/N’s side. She raised her hand up just a bit and snapped her fingers; like that each of them, including the clone pinning the man’s arm, revealed the stolen documents he had just sold off to other rogue ninja.
More black petals floated down from the air as each one of her clones suddenly appeared before them.
His eyes widened in complete shock, air getting stuck in his throat almost preventing him from taking a proper breath.
They kept the documents out only for a couple of seconds then slid them back into their packs.
“Looks like this is the end of the line for you.”
“Wait!” The man screamed out, making Y/N pause for a moment to see what he wanted. When a couple of seconds passed, the man spoke again.
“There were rumors, started a couple of years ago. They were about a rogue assassin, killing other ninja left and right.” The man explained, the cold sweat rolling down his temples.
Y/N said nothing, it made him swallow nervously. “No one could find their bodies; all that was left were pools of blood and a single black rose.”
Then Y/N squinted at him, eyes narrow and fierce. “They called this assassin: Black Rose. I thought it was just rumors but…”
“You’ve changed your mind?” Y/N asked condescendingly.
“Well I’ve never seen anyone leave black petals lying around when they use clones or teleport said clones.”
There was a pregnant pause as both parties stared at each other, one’s heart racing and the other’s heart steady as drum.
Y/N clicked her tongue. “You should’ve believed the rumors, maybe you could’ve lived longer. Your complacency is what led you here.”
She saw the man tense up. “I believe them now so maybe we could make a deal.”
He tried to sound tough or unaffected by the aura surrounding this woman, but inside the terror was speeding over her nerves, up his spine, nearing choking him.
“I don’t make deals with rogues. I’m afraid that this is the end for you.”
“No!” The man screamed out, the panic now controlling him.
No please, I’ll do whatever you want. I’ve got resources, information; just tell me what you want.” The man pleaded.
Y/N took a step back, raising both hands to form a single hand sign. “I want you to disappear.” Then in a barrage of hand signs, too fast to keep, Y/N weaved her fingers together before landing on the final sign. “Ninja art: Black Flower Decay.”
A whirlwind of black flower petals swirled around them as if the wind was guiding their movements, eching their way closer and closer.
The man watched the petals coming his way and one single petal landed on his cheek; it was hot, burned even. But it was one petal, and for a split second he thought maybe he could take it, however that thought quickly left his mind when more petals started to collect on his skin.
Now the burning sensation grows in intensity until eventually the pain became overwhelming. The man again screamed out but this time it was more gutural; more real.
In a final blow, the wind directs the flower petals on every square inch of the man’s body. Then the petals began to completely break down the man’s body til nothing was left.
The man’s body was gone, the clones disappeared, the petals vanished, and the only thing left was a single black rose placed on the ground.
In seconds, Y/N was already miles away from the location of the rogue she’d just eliminated. Not to mention the other shinobi that she also killed when they took off with information that could’ve easily led to the destruction of the Leaf.
And no matter what she was not going to let that happen, not when she loved ones waiting for her.
Three years had passed since she was assigned on this mission, and not a single day went by that she didn’t think about her friends back home.
She wondered if any of them had made Chunin or Jounin, or if Lee had made a complete recovery from his surgery, or even wondered if Hinata had confessed her feelings for Naruto.
These were the types of things that wandered through her head, the things that kept her sane. Though after all this time, she wondered if they thought about her.
Maybe the first couple of months, sure since it was only a couple of months after Sasuke abandoned them all that she was sent away, but they were ninja; they had to focus on training, completing missions, trying not to die.
Truth be told, they most likely didn’t have the time to even wonder about her well being. Who would after three years? For someone who didn’t even say goodbye?
Oh well…
She was assigned a mission and had to complete it no matter what. That’s why Lady Tsunade entrusted this mission to her and only her.
Y/N was ripped out of her thoughts by a sudden and powerful burst of lightning right for her.
In a split second, she managed to dodge the attack in mid air and jumped to the nearest tree branch. From behind the sound of the lighting making contact with another tree causing the wood to splitter and blow apart.
The attack kicked up a bunch of dust to which nothing was visible for a couple of minutes.
Y/N waved her hand through the air to try to clear the area, watching as the dust only moved away from her general vicinity but nowhere else.
Her eyes darted around trying to fight the source of the attack, but before she could come to a conclusion she heard a voice from a somewhat short distance.
“I’m surprised you were able to dodge that so easily.”
That voice, that voice sounded familiar.
No, it couldn’t be.
As quickly as it appeared, a gust of wind swept away the debris, wiping the area completely clean of any signs of attack.
Her eyes widened, staring directly at the figure that stood on the solid ground twenty feet away. It was-
“Sasuke?”
“Most people would have been killed by an attack like that.” The Uchiha stated coldly.
Shaking the surprise, Y/N pulled herself back into espionage mode. “What are you doing here, Sasuke? Finally have a guilty conscience and decide to get over your superiority complex?”
Sasuke didn’t react. He didn’t smirk, or laugh sarcastically, he simply stood there with a cool expression. “You’ve caused Orochimaru some trouble; eliminating his line of resources and so he’s asked me to deal with you.”
“He’s still alive then. I’m surprised, I figured by now you would have killed him and taken control over his lackeys.” Y/N continued to retort back while on the inside she was getting nervous.
He hadn’t demonstrated his full power, however she’s always known he was strong. He was a Uchiha afterall.
“That will come eventually. Unfortunately, there is still something I need from him so until then I will do what I have to do.”
Y/N didn’t have anything else to say instead she stood there quietly, her right hand subtly reaching behind her into her tool bag.
Just as she had the kunai out of the pouch, she watched Sasuke vanish and his overwhelming presence was suddenly behind her.
She whipped her head around, eyes meeting a pair of crimson ones.
________
“This is so stupid!” Naruto complained very loudly for all to hear.
“Oh shut up, Naruto! You haven't stopped complaining since we left the Hidden Waterfall Village.” Sakura yelled back at him.
All Naruto did was huff as the entire team dashed across the treetops.
“It’s just if there are going to be rumors about the Akatsuki hanging around, they could at least do me the favor of actually being there.” Naruto added with a pout.
“Are you serious?” Choji chirped in from the back of the formation.
Then Shikamaru cut in. “Think about it; if the Akatsuki were actually there, we would’ve had our hands full even with the six of us.”
“Besides, you should know by now that rumors are not always true. So stop pouting.” Ino interjected as well, her own annoyance palpable in her tone.
Naruto grumbled in response, whatever words he was spouting to himself not audible to anyone else.
He remained mumbling for a while, even sprinting ahead of everyone without thinking about it.
“Stupid Akatsuki, stupid mission, stupid Shikamaru, stupid…” His vision caught an unusual color in the corner of his eye.
It wasn’t far so he immediately went to go take a closer look, oblivious to his team members flying right by only to stop once they noticed he was going in a different direction.
“Where do you think he’s going?” Sai asked, not expecting anyone to know that answer.
“Naruto! What are you doing?” Sakura from up on a tree branch as she saw Naruto jump down to the dirt floor.
He did not turn around to reply, but kept walking through the grass and bushes of the forest. “There’s something weird over here.”
Sai, Sakura, Ino, Shikamru, and Choji all exchanged looks of confusion before Sakura followed after him first and hopped down off the tree.
Naruto had a few feet on them as he stepped into a small clearing, seeing blood painting the ground.
He gawked at the sight for a second then focused on the next unusual thing, more unusual than blood in the middle of the woods.
In the middle of the pools of blood sat a single black rose.
Throwing caution to the wind, Naruto reached forward to grab ahold of the rose. His fingers had barely skimmed the surface of the dark petals when Sakura’s voice called out to him.
“What are you doing?! It could set off a trap.”
Naruto was too wrapped up in his own thoughts that his brain didn’t register anything his teammate was saying as he turned around to face them with the rose in the palm of his hand.
“Guys, what’s a rose doing out in the middle of nowhere like this and around all this blood?”
Once the gang’s eyes rested on the rose in Naruto’s hand most of them remained confused, but Shikamaru’s expression changed to one of knowing anxiety.
“Black Rose.” Was all Shikamaru uttered and everyone looked over at him now.
“What?” Choji questioned first.
“There’s been a lot of disappearances within the Land of Fire lately, all kinds of ninja gone in the blink of an eye with only their blood and a single black rose left behind.” Shikamaru explained, taking a moment to observe the battle field they were standinding before continuing.
“While there’s not a lot of tangible proof, the ninja that’s been doing this has been credited with over a hundred assassinations over the last three years factoring in they are even assassinations; but given the amount of blood I would say so.”
Ino couldn’t help but perk up at the mention of three years. She subconsciously mouthed them to herself, and her mind immediately jumped to the realization that her best friend had been gone that exact amount of time.
Is it possible-
There was a thud and a rustling within a tree off to the team’s right, about six feet away.
It took only a moment for each member to get into a defensive formation as they eyed the direction in which the rustling came from.
The tree leaves moved around a bit some more and then a figure fell out from the tree landing at the team’s feet causing all of them to jump back.
Even Sakura and Ino had gasped when this mysterious fell out of thin air.
From what they could see, it was a female; about their age, probably about average height with what looked to be a long scarf hanging around her neck and covering part of her face.
It was easy to tell that she was very unconscious even with her face covered. And she was injured.
“She’s bleeding!” Naruto pointed out as soon as he realized that fact.
He rushed over to her side while assessing her wounds, then reached to pull her mask off. His back blocked the others' view of the female and they waited for any kind of signal from Naruto.
“Uh guys?” He said, voice laced with shock and a slight tremble of anxiousness.
“What is it, Naruto?” Shikamaru calmly asked.
Without another word, Naruto took a couple of steps to the side revealing the woman to them.
There was lull in all sound, even the breeze that rushed against their ears suddenly went quiet. Everything that had once made sound now only sounded like the white noise coming from a tv, growing louder by each passing second.
It was almost too much.
“Y/N?” Ino’s voice broke them out of their trance right before she took a hesitant step forward.
Her mind seemed to catch up as she lunged forward, her best friend’s name leaving her mouth one more time. “Y/N!”
She bent down next to Naruto, violet eyes darting across Y/N’s body to see if they were more serious injuries. In her search, she saw a large laceration across Y/N’s back. The blood from the wound had soaked into the fabric of her uniform causing a clot to form there.
“She has a severe wound on her back, it’s big; probably eight inches in length.” Ino started to describe, weaving a quick hand sign then holding her hand over Y/N’s back, her hands glowing green as she began to heal the opening.
Sakura rushed over, appearing on the other side of Y/N. “Has it begun to clot?”
“A bit.” Ino answered curtly. “It looks like the tissue itself wasn’t. The blood soaked into the shirt, it’s acting as a sort of gauze.”
The others stepped closer to nervously observe Ino and Sakura’s movements.
Sakura then reached into her back pouch to pull out a black-brownish jar with a rigid lid. “Sai! Come over here.”
Sai reacted swiftly, making it to Sakura’s side in no time as she opened the jar in her hands.
“Now Sai, I want you to very slowly and very carefully peel back the fabric of her shirt; as you do I’m going to apply this paste to keep the wound from bleeding. It’ll act as a temporary bandage. You got it?”
“Got it!”
And just as Sakura had said Sai followed her instructions to the letter and as she mentioned as well, every inch of skin that was revealed under the uniform shirt, she applied a nearly transparent gel onto the surface of the wound to keep it from free flowing.
The moment that was finished, Sakura put the jar away and directed her gaze to Ino. “We have to go, it’s another couple of hours to the village at least. If she’s gonna make it, we have to go now.”
Ino nodded, stopping her healing and taking a hold of one of Y/N’s arms; the one closest to her. “Let’s get her up.” Sai then assisted with the other arm, and they both wrapped each arm around their shoulders.
“If we really push it, we can make it back to the village in less time.” Shikamaru suggested, his expression now back to normal with a subtle hint of concern.
“Well let's hurry then.” Choji added.
Naruto quickly stood up from his position, bringing a fist slamming into his other palm with a look of determination on his face. “Yeah the only chance Y/N’s got is if we stop talking and get on with it.”
All six ninja exchanged brief glances at each other then took off in the direction of the village with Y/N coming in and out of consciousness.
It felt like a lifetime but eventually they made it and as Shikamaru had said, they really pushed it and got there in only thirty minutes.
It was definitely a rough half hour, although it was a small price to pay for getting their friend the treatment that she desperately needed.
They all barged into the hospital, shouting several things all at once that it was hard for the front desk nurse to understand what they were saying. The point got across after Lady Tsunade showed up.
She’d heard that Y/N had returned to the village or rather had been dragged back because she had a serious injury to the back.
Sakura requested that she assist Tsunade in the surgery, but she denied it saying that Shizune would assist which left Sakura feeling helpless.
Tsunade understood that she wanted to help her teammate and friend, someone who had disappeared much like her love Sasuke, but even from a glance she could easily discern that Y/N’s injuries were serious.
Even though Sakura was a skilled medic ninja, she lacked the experience of delicate surgeries and Y/N’s condition required delicacy.
Sakura, Naruto, Sai, Shikamaru, Ino, and Choi waited with what could barely be considered patience, out in the waiting room.
Everyone sat down in an uncomfortable chair except for Naruto; he opted to pace.
Of course it set everyone on edge, but he has always been a fidgety person so add a bit of stress to that and he couldn’t sit still.
Though, Sakura did yell at him for not sitting like a normal person (her words). Normally Naruto wouldn’t have argued with the matter because she would’ve beaten him to a pulp for not heeding her word, but not this time.
He exclaimed that there was no way he could sit down since one of his friends was in surgery. Sakura remained quiet after that.
The silence permeated the very air they were breathing as they kept waiting for some sort of news on Y/N’s condition.
Until finally, Tsunade came out to meet them.
“She’s going to be just fine.” That was the first thing she said to them with a confident smile.
All the young shinobi had sighed in relief, the stress dripping off their shoulders to disappear forever.
“However,” Tsunade prefaced, “She’s in a medically induced coma so she won’t wake up for a while. The best thing she needs right now is sleep; this is also to keep her from moving around with that back injury so it’ll heal.”
Once more the young ninja exchanged looks of relief, happy to know that their friend was going to make it.
________
Nearly a week passed before Y/N woke up from her coma.
Her eyes felt the glare from the sunlight seeping in from the outside, and a warm sensation encasing her wrist.
When her gaze shifted to the presence of the warmth, she saw Lady Tsunade standing at her bedside while checking her pulse.
Honestly, at first, she didn’t recognize Tsunade for a few seconds until she spoke up.
“Well hello there, sleepy head. Finally decided to wake up.”
Y/N blinked a few times. “Lady Tsunade?”
The Hokage gently set Y/N’s hand back down to her side before crossing her arms and smiling down at the young woman. “Welcome back to the land of the living.”
“How-” She looked around the hospital room confused. “How did I get here?”
“I had sent several of your friends out on a mission to investigate rumors of the Akatsuki near the Hidden Waterfall village and on they’re way back, they found you lying in the middle of the forest.” Tsunade wasted no time explaining, her smile falling to a more casual expression.
Y/N’s eyes darted away to the hospital ceiling again, mouth gaped open subconsciously as her mind flashed back to that last thing she remembered.
“I vaguely remember somebody picking me up from the ground, but it’s all kind of hazy after that.” Y/N admitted.
Tsunade took a deep breath before speaking. “That’s not shocking, you were critically injured. It’s a miracle you were still alive when they brought you in.”
Both paused to gather their thoughts, the room becoming silent.
“What happened to you out there?” Tsunade asked with a startling seriousness.
She took some time to think through it, going back to every second stuck in her struggle against an old classmate. A classmate she actually used to know fairly well, and now he was nothing more than a stranger that she crossed unfortunate paths with.
“It was Sasuke.”
Tsunade didn’t even look surprised or shocked, it seemed as though she was already aware of who had almost killed her. After a minute or two, Tsunade nodded (more to herself).
“I see.”
“You don’t look surprised.” Y/N mentioned quickly.
The older blonde woman shook her head. “When I was performing your surgery, it was easy to make out the lightning pattern on your back. And not only that, upon taking a closer look I could see that the lightning had managed to barely sear the bone of your spine.”
She watched Y/N’s eyes widened at the revelation. Tsunade continued, “The attack was so precise that it scarred the bone, there’s one person I can think of that could use lightning like that.”
Y/N listened in horror, while trying to keep her mind from exploding with all the information coming in at once. “I am going to be okay?”
“Yes, luckily the scarring on your spine was superficial and there was no permanent damage that will affect your ability to walk or anything of the sort. The real problem was trying to close off the laceration, but that’s been taken care of too.”
“Oh thank goodness…” Y/N breathed a sigh of relief, holding her hand up to her chest.
Tsunade stepped forward, arms resting back at her sides. “However, you will need to rest as much as you can and you’ll need to start physical therapy.”
Y/N grumbled something under her breath; she would’ve rolled her eyes but her head hurt too much.
“Don’t get an attitude with me. It’s important to get your body back up to speed, that surgery took a lot out of you.” Tsunade scolded, her own brows pinching together in a frown.
“Yeah, yeah I know.” The younger ninja waved her off, choosing to now stare at the wall ahead of her as she sat up against her pillows.
She tried to suppress a deep rooted groan, unfortunately it proved useless, as the shock of pain in her back caught her off guard.
Her mouth let out a gasp before her teeth came clamping down on each other to soften any other noises that would try to escape.
“Try to move around slowly. Even if you were asleep for a week, you need to give yourself some time to heal.”
Y/N’s nearly popped out of her skull when those words processed in her brain. “A week? I’ve been here a whole week?”
Lady Tsunade opened her mouth to say something only to be interrupted when the hospital room door came slamming open.
“I can’t take it anymore!”
A familiar bright blonde haired male came bursting into the room with no regard for what anyone else was saying (Tsunade). He ran over to Y/N’s bedside, a now bright grin on his face.
“Hey Y/N, how ya doing?” He asked casually. It soon earned him a hard whack to the back of the head, a pink haired girl moving in.
“Naruto, you idiot! I told you to WAIT!” Sakura shouted quite angrily. Then she yanked Naruto back by the collar of his orange and black jacket.
Slowly, but surely several other people began to filter into the room, each other with their own unique uniform design.
And she knew every single one of them! Her face didn’t show it but she was glad to see them, it had been too long since the last time she saw them and now here they were.
Every one of them was taller than she remembered; particularly Shikamaru. Back then, she used to think that Shikamaru was kind of small but not so much now; he was fuller, broader.
He had grown up quite a bit.
Sakura had still been yelling at Naruto when Y/N shook herself out of her head, and focused on what was happening right now.
“Come on, Sakura…Cut me some slack okay? It’s been forever since I saw her last.”
“Ugh…” Sakura sighed as she placed a couple of fingers to her temple to dampen the oncoming headache. She switched gears in a few seconds as she faced Y/N, a small replacing the scowl.
“It’s been too long though, what have you been up to?” She nicely asked.
Y/N paused for a second as she thought of what to say; suddenly her throat felt unusable and her mind blanked. All the time she spent thinking of her friends, she never thought about what she’d say once she saw them again.
“O-oh…you know, finishing up a mission” She plainly answered, trying to sound like she used to.
What did she used to sound like?
There echoed a collective noise of surprise coming from her friends, their faces matching that.
“A mission? You mean the past three years, you’ve been on a mission?” Ino cut in, stepping forward to now be standing close by Y/N’s left side.
Y/N’s eyes danced over the faces of the people she once knew, to realize that they were different. It made her throat feel snapped shut.
She swallowed, noticing the soreness of it. “Yeah…”
“Why didn’t you tell us?” Choji asked, his voice taking on obvious sadness.
Y/N went to answer but Tsunade cut her off. “It was a stealth mission of the highest order. It needed to be kept secret. No one was allowed to even be aware of why or when she was leaving the village.”
“So that’s why you left without saying goodbye.” Ino voiced as she held her hand against her chest as if she were trying to keep herself focused on the now instead of thinking on what happened back then. She wouldn't admit it out loud, but when she learned that Y/N was gone and no one knew why, she feared that she had succumbed to the same darkness that corrupted Sasuke.
Y/N was her best friend, they told each other everything especially the dumbest of stuff. They always said “Hi” or Good morning, always trading a goodbye before departing on a mission. In some weird way, they felt secure in that. To them it felt like a guarantee that even though they said goodbye it would never be the last.
So when Y/N suddenly wasn’t there anymore, it left Ino afraid that she had been unable to stop her from following a path with no way to return.
Y/N hung her head in shame, now having a difficult time looking them in the eyes. All she saw was the lingering disappointment swimming in their eyes.
“You’re different than before.” Naruto added in the middle of the silence.
She knew all too well.
“Back then, whenever you were around us you were always smiling, always laughing with us. And even when we’d end up in the hospital after a mission, you were always there to cheer us up.” Naruto continued, his usual boisterous personality on the back burner as he spoke softly and sincerely.
“But now, you’ve got this blank look on your face like you don’t know what smiling is.”
He wasn’t wrong. Not at all.
Three years spent on a mission tucking away her feelings, forgetting how much she missed being home and being with friends, and forgetting what made her who she is would make anyone feel as if they didn’t belong in the very place they called home.
It wasn’t a revelation she was prepared for.
The moment she tied that headband to her head she thought the it would be in the middle of the battlefield that she’d feel the most on edge, never did she think that moment would fall on her when she was surrounded by those she loved.
“Don’t be so insensitive, Naruto.” Sakura scolded him again, though this time she spoke less angrily and more concerned for Y/N’s reaction.
“Look, what I’m saying is that you’re not the same as before. What happened out there?”
Finally, Y/N looked up. “A lot of things happened out there. And-”
“Okay, that’s enough for one day.” Shikamaru advised after several minutes of not speaking.
“But Shikamaru-” Naruto began but Shikamaru spoke over him.
“Remember she’s suffered a critical injury; she still needs time to heal and us bringing up details of a delicate mission isn’t helping.”
At that, Naruto’s blue eyes drifted to the tiled floor in a silent agreement.
“Shikamaru is right, the best thing you all can do for her is to let her rest. Her bandages need replaced anyway, so clear out.” Tsunade ordered gently while crossing her arms over her chest.
Silently, each member made their way out of the room, glancing back to Y/N a few times (collectively) before they were out the door. Y/N and Tsunade waited until they could no longer hear their footsteps to say anything else.
“He’s right.” Y/N uttered, staring down at her palms.
“That’s his other gift…” Tsunade said thoughtfully, walking around Y/N’s bed to face the window. “He senses changes in people, no matter how subtle. It’s easy to forget when he acts like a moron.”
Y/N felt her mouth quirk up into a sentimental smile. “It's because of that ability that makes him such a force to be reckoned with.”
“I agree.” Tsunade stood by the window for a few more moments then looked over her shoulder at Y/N. “Alright, how about we get those bandages changed?”
________
Time passed, at what felt like, a blink.
Another week passed before Y/N was cleared to go home, but it felt like time rushed by her. Even when her friends would visit her, the hours they’d spend trying to fill Y/N on what she missed, seemed like mere minutes; gone without a chance to turn around.
Maybe that was better.
Since that first visit, Y/N hadn’t been able to shake the feeling of guilt hanging over her. Every time any one of her old friends came to see her, she saw the sadness in their eyes.
She attempted to act like how she used to, happily-go-lucky, but it was all forced and definitely difficult to keep that up so she quickly decided to let it naturally come back to her.
Whenever that would happen.
It was hard; knowing that her friends expected her to revert back to the old days, and be who she was. And she wanted to be that for them, she truly did, it’s just being on a mission that negated any sort of humanly interaction or connection made it seem like it was all a dream to begin with.
And when she couldn’t deliver, the disappointment always returned.
Now she was a walking blank canvas; splashed with a coat of white to hide any unique colors and patterns.
It almost scared her how much she didn’t react or feel.
Would she ever be the same?
The thought lingered at the forefront of her mind while Y/N sat criss cross on her own bed.
Her back was slouching a bit which caused her to grunt in pain when she straightened herself out again.
Lady Tsunade ordered her to sit as straight as she possibly could to help the healing process, but she was a creature of habit so she’d start out with correct posture then slip back into a slouch then would quickly correct herself again.
It was causing a lot of unnecessary pain.
Y/N huffed as she forced her shoulders to lie straight and back up, being as perpendicular as she could. While she did so, she kept her eyes on the blue sky filled with an abundance of white, fluffy clouds.
Cloud watching was a hobby of her’s, particularly when there wasn’t a lot going on during her mission.
Any time she felt nervous or anxious or bored, she’d tilt her head back and watch them float.
There was something very relaxing about that process.
But she didn’t enjoy it for long when a knock came at her door. Y/N perked up, head whipping to the other side of her room.
“Who is it?” She asked aloud.
“It’s me, Ino.” The muffled voice said on the other side of the door.
Bracing herself, Y/N carefully lifted her aching body up from the bed to make her way to the front door.
She opened the door to find an anxious Ino, twiddling her thumbs. “Hi.”
“Hey, can you come with me somewhere?” Ino abruptly asked.
Y/N raised a brow at her. “I guess, but where are we going?”
Her answer visibly made Ino relax. She let out a breath she didn’t realize she was holding. “It’s a surprise.”
Then she turned on her heel, making her way down the apartment building hallway and in no time, Y/N followed close behind her.
For some reason, Ino chose not to make conversation on the way to wherever it was they were going.
Instead she quietly led the way, leaving the village houses behind with each passing step and ventured through some trees.
Something about the path they were taking looked familiar, so much so that it caused a warmth to center in Y/N’s gut spreading over her nerves like a warm blanket.
When it came to forests, three years isn’t enough time for it to change, and it looked exactly as it did back then.
Ino eventually stepped through the set of trees, and made it into a sunbathed clearing, completely lavished with a mass of flowers.
Y/N eyes grew wide at the sight; she couldn’t remember the last time she had been here even before she left.
Once she graduated from the academy there was never time to come back here, to relax and enjoy the simple colors of the flowers and their comforting smells wafting through the air.
It still looked like the small piece of heaven she loved so dearly.
“I can tell you remember this place.” Ino finally said, turning around to fully face Y/N; a soft smile on her face. “I know how much you used to love it here.”
“Why are we here?” Y/N asked, her own gaze observing every flower grazing her legs.
Ino stepped up to Y/N, laying a comforting hand on her shoulder. “Because we loved this place when we were kids, so let’s enjoy it.”
Then Ino lightly nudged Y/N to follow her again and this time they didn’t walk that much further when they met a slight slope slanting downwards from where they were.
Ino took a spot on the small slope, then again nudged for Y/N to sit down with her. She did.
As soon as Y/N seated herself onto a patch of grass, Ino reached out and pulled out a white flower with a yellow center. “Do you remember what kind of flower this is?”
Y/N let out a quick airy laugh, caught slightly off guard by the question. “Uh..a jasmine.”
Ino nodded with a smile. Still holding the jasmine, she plucked out another one. This flower was drenched in a bright pink, petals resembling lace. “This one?”
“A carnation.”
She picked another one; it had a long green stem with a bushel of tiny purple petals at the top. “This one?”
Y/N nodded. “Lavender.”
Reaching for one more, Ino pulled up a flower with a somewhat stringy inside, center white and the petals gradually from that bright white to a light pink.
“How about this one?”
To Y/N’s shock, she didn’t recognize it. It definitely looked familiar, but there were several other flowers popping in her head that matched the look of it.
Staring at the flower, Y/N cautiously shook her head as if she were afraid she would disappoint Ino.
Ino held the flower up to her nose to smell the fragrance, closing her eyes a second to relish it before opening them again. “It’s a gladiolus.”
Y/N sadly decided not to respond to that.
“It was your favorite one back then. When we were still in the academy, you told Sakura and I  that they could be all sorts of colors like pink..” she gestured to the pink one in her hand. “Or yellow or white. And you also said that they had healing properties used by our medic ninja. It was easy to tell how excited you were to tell us about it; how much you knew about flowers.”
“What’s going on, Ino? Why are we out here?” Y/N finally confronted the strange behavior of her friend.
Ino rested her hands in her lap, the flowers she’d plucked nearly falling from her limp hands. “I thought that if I could remind you of what you used to do, what we used to do together when we were kids, maybe it’d bring back the part of you that’s been hiding.”
“And you were the only one who wasn’t disappointed in me to try, huh?” Y/N laughed humorlessly.
Quickly, Ino faced her friend. “None of us were disappointed in you. We were all worried because you weren’t yourself anymore, and we could see how upset that made you.”
“Then why are you the only one who’s said anything? Why are you the only one out here?” Y/N began to feel the hopelessness grow in her chest like an infection.
Somewhere in the past week, she had rationalized that she had lost her friends because she couldn’t be there the same way as she could three years ago.
“I’m the only one out here because I asked everyone if I could be the first to help you remember. After this, Sakura and Naruto got their own thing planned for you.”
“What do you mean?” Y/N questioned, utterly confused by that statement.
“Well…” Ino began then recounted what happened only a few hours ago.
It was the middle of the afternoon when Sakura, Ino, and Naruto strolled down the street. Originally, Sakura and Ino were walking together but then Naruto saw them and caught up to them to talk as well.
There was some simple chatter going on between them when Naruto began to complain. “Don’t you guys think it’s weird that Y/N isn’t acting like herself anymore?”
Sakura and Ino stopped in their tracks, standing beside each other as Naruto took a few steps ahead before stopping himself, arms coming down to his sides after being held up in a casual posture.
“It’s not weird.” Ino answered somberly.
Sakura frowned. “It isn’t unusual for people to change when they’ve been alone on a mission for that long, especially if it was high priority.”
Naruto gritted his teeth. “I know, but it’s still weird to me. She used to be so happy back then, it was never boring when she was around, she had so much energy and now it’s like that person is gone. Like someone is impersonating her.”
“She’s not gone.” Ino was quick to add. “I can still see the cheerful girl we used to know, I think she’s just got lost along the way.”
Sakura nodded. “I think you’re right.”
There was a brief inter pause when Ino gasped, startling both Sakura and Naruto. “I have an idea!”
The other two ninja waited patiently for Ino to tell them what her idea was.
“We’ve been trying to fill her in on all that she’s missed the past three years right? Well if we instead we show her things of our past together, from when we were kids?”
Sakura’s eyes lit up. “Like when we played in the river together?”
“Or when we read comic books and played games together?!” Naurot chided, his voice grew louder than it was seconds ago.
Ino snapped her fingers and grinned. “Exactly! If we re-experience places we went, things we liked to do then maybe we could remind her of who she is.”
“It’s worth a shot at least.” Sakura smiled, looking between Ino and Naruto.
Naruto threw his fist up in the air. “Are you kidding me? That idea is awesome!”
“Alright, then from now on, each of us will try to remind Y/N of our precious memories together. Ready?” Ino closed her hand, and stuck a fist out to her friends.
Sakura and Naruto both bumped Ino’s fist, earning an excited cheer from all three at the same time.
“You see? That’s all we want, is for you to remember not who you used to be but who you are.” Ino explained, leaning over to a bundle of gladiolus flowers and extending them toward Y/N.
Her violet gaze could see the beginnings of tears gathering in Y/N’s eyes. “Like these gladiolus, maybe we could begin to heal you. If that’s okay?”
They fell, the tears that had been clouding her vision rolled down her cheeks, leaving a warm sensation in their wake.
For the first time in a long time, Y/N let out a relieved sob, taking the bundle of flowers from Ino’s grasp. Her head dipped down to stare at the colorful bouquet, watching her tears fall onto the petals and pool there.
The shame and guilt that hung off her injured back, finally disappeared, giving her the chance to breathe again, to actually breathe. Each inhale of air felt cold going down her throat but left her refreshed.
It was overwhelming.
Ino gave her space, letting her friend cry, to push out everything that she’d kept buried under a lock and key.
It wasn’t until Y/N had pulled her head back up and extended her arms out, that she hugged Y/N tightly to her and she reciprocated. Ino could feel her own tears begin to build.
Y/N cried a little while longer, then allowed herself to speak through the sobs. “Thank you; for not giving up on me.”
Ino pulled back, hands then resting softly on Y/N’s shoulders again. “That’s what friends are for.”
That caused Y/N to let out a tearful laugh and Ino mimicked that.
It was good to be home.

"Alright, pack it up and get in."
Kakashi was too tired for this.
The night after your conversation, Kakashi had waited in vain for you to come out from his spare room. He wasn't too surprised when your door remained firmly shut long past the time when you usually joined him, but he was still slightly disappointed. When he woke up from a nightmare gasping for breath and looking around for nonexistent threats, his first thought was whether or not you'd kick him if he knocked on your door and asked that you come out and join him again.
When he saw you the next morning, you looked just as exhausted as he felt. However, he wasn't too tired to notice that you were purposefully avoiding his eyes.
"Sensei!" Naruto shouted from the door, arms full of bags that certainly hadn't been necessary to bring, "are we bringing the pups?"
"Iruka is staying here for a few weeks for a mission. He'll take care of them."
Naruto pouted and knelt down to an equally disappointed-looking Akino. Kakashi huffed; the kids spoiled his dogs too much. They were all getting too mushy to be guarding the house.
"We really can't stay for a few more days?" Sakura asked, throwing her bag into the back of the car. Her luggage was much lighter than what she used to bring when they came here on mini-getaways. Kakashi didn't want to think why that was, but he couldn't help but imagine how little she was likely permitted to have while in the Red Room.
"I'd like to get back to the compound. We're disconnected from SHIELD here, and I don't want to be out of the loop for too long."
He almost wished she'd fought him on the decision more, but her curt nod almost reminded him of a formal response to an order. He felt a headache coming on as he pictured that same response being given to Orochimaru.
Maybe he was overthinking things.
"You look terrible," Sasuke said, glaring at something behind Kakashi. He glanced at where you were slipping past Naruto with a bag slung over your shoulder and a deep scowl pointed at the ground. Sakura snapped at Sasuke to be nice, and Sasuke's answering shrug did little to make her lower her defenses. The boy gave you one last glance before climbing into the front seat of Kakashi's car.
"Nope," Kakashi shook his head, "back."
"Wha– why? For her?"
Sasuke pointed a disbelieving finger at you while you tried very hard to look like you weren't paying attention to the argument. You looked uncomfortable with his attention, and Kakashi took note of your uncharacteristic silence and stowed it away as something to ponder on later.
"Yes, for her. You children will be in the back."
Sasuke scowled at Kakashi, then glared past him at you. Kakashi waited beside the passenger door until his charge slipped out and trudged towards the backseat. He looked like the model of an angsty teenager; his arms were crossed tightly over his chest, and a deep scowl was directed at the trees in the distance. Kakashi felt his headache grow worse.
Sakura settled into the seat beside Sasuke with a quiet warning to be nice. He ignored her and propped his chin on his hand, turning even further towards his window.
"This isn't necessary," you muttered behind Kakashi. Stubbornness seemed to be a trait that you and Sakura shared, though he wondered if you had picked some of it up from the girl, "I can sit next to Sakura."
"It's alright. They're used to sitting back there."
"Still..."
For the first time since the night before, you met his gaze. You looked exhausted and beyond exasperated with the conflict. You participated in a stare-down with him for a moment, but climbed into the passenger seat with a grumble about how difficult he was being.
The drive was only a few hours, but it didn't take long for Naruto to fall asleep with his head resting on Sakura's shoulder. When the four of them went on road trips like this before Sakura was taken, she rarely tolerated Naruto's lack of physical boundaries. Kakashi was surprised when he glanced back and saw that she hadn't pushed him off like she used to. Now, she looked content to let the boy lean on her. Kakashi smiled behind his mask.
Sasuke, for all of his efforts to look the part of a brooding teenager, followed suit and fell asleep on Sakura's other shoulder. Kakashi almost asked if you would take a picture for him, but thought better of it when he noticed how tensely you were sitting in the passenger seat.
"How did you sleep?" he asked, ignoring your pointed glare.
"I slept fine."
"Mm. I'm glad to hear that."
"Right," you grumbled. The silence that followed was thick with tension, but he was patient. He could wait you out.
"You know, you almost had me fooled."
That wasn't what he was expecting.
"I don't know what you mean."
"This little game," you said venomously, spitting the words out like you couldn't stand to keep them in, "that you think you can play. Making me dependent on you. Acting like it's mutual. I've played it before, but it'll take more than that to manipulate me."
His hands tightened on the steering wheel, head spinning at the accusation. He thought you would've noticed the bags under his eyes that matched yours, though he supposed that you'd barely looked at him since the night before. Still, he'd hoped that you'd built at least a little bit of trust. At the very least, he thought you considered him an ally.
"That's not what I'm doing."
"I don't care, you know," you grumbled, leaving his words ignored, "if you want to use me. I don't care. But you could at least tell me what you want from me."
"I thought we went over this," Kakashi shook his head, "I'm not using you. I don't want to use you. I just want to help."
"And what makes you think I want your help, hm? I didn't ask for it. In fact, I never asked for you to bring me back in the first place. You took me. If you knew what was good for you, you'd drop me off at the next town and forget about me."
Kakashi glanced in the mirror to make sure the argument hadn't woken the kids, but you were staying conscious of your volume despite the anger in your voice.
"Is that what you want?"
The silence that followed gave him his answer. You were glaring at your lap, hands clenched hard around the phone he'd given you.
"Does it matter?" you muttered, "I keep going over it in my head, and every scenario I can think of ends with HYDRA finding me. Sakura doesn't want to acknowledge how dangerous it is for me to be here, but you know what the world is like. I know you do. And you know that it's inevitable that I leave. Whether it's on my own or with Orochimaru is up to me."
He remembered you saying that you would try to stay last night, and he wondered if it had been a lie or if you had changed your mind.
He wondered just how scared you were of letting yourself have a home.
"You know I shouldn't stay. The things I said last night...I wasn't thinking straight. It's dangerous for me to be here. I don't want to bring any more trouble to you and the kids."
"Is that what that was?" Kakashi chuckled, "trying to get me mad so I'd kick you out?"
Your silence was awfully telling. It was giving him more answers than your words did.
"Well, it's not easy to manipulate me either. And Sakura would probably just leave with you if I told you to go," Kakashi noted, glancing back at the girl. She had shifted and was resting her head on Sasuke, mouth open and drool hanging off her lip, "besides, she's just as dangerous, isn't she? HYDRA thinks you're dead, so she's the one they'll be looking for now."
He needed to find the right words. If he did, maybe some of the tension in your shoulders would drain out.
"If I overstepped last night," he said quietly, hoping that talking about such a vulnerable moment wouldn't shut you down, "I apologize."
You both paused when Naruto mumbled something incoherent. You went rigid at the interruption, and Kakashi was almost impressed that you were talking this freely in front of Naruto and Sasuke, even if they were asleep. Maybe you were improving more than he was giving you credit for.
"You touched me."
He closed his eyes. He hadn't meant to make you uncomfortable. It had taken him a long time to get used to the amount of affection that kids wanted, especially after being neglected for so long. But after so long taking care of them, it had almost become a natural instinct to comfort someone with touch.
"I did," he mumbled, suddenly embarrassed that he'd been so presumptuous. Of course you wouldn't want him touching you. Not after everything that Red Room had done to make you associate touch with pain, "I'm–"
"It was nice. It felt...kind."
It was a miracle that Kakashi didn't crash the car. This conversation was full of surprises.
"Orochimaru always saw kindness as weakness," you murmured, voice faraway, "but the Widows didn't always see it that way. When we were younger, before training got intense, we would try to support one another. Kindness didn't become rare until we started training for combat. I even had some friends when I was a kid."
He tried imagining a younger you, and found that he couldn't. He couldn't reconcile the hopelessness that you always seemed to be feeling with the innocence of childhood. Though he supposed that his own childhood hadn't exactly been filled with happy memories.
"Everyone who was kind to me ended up dead. A lot of them died at my hand. Orochimaru didn't want us to be friends. He wanted us to make each other stronger through competition. We were never taught the concept of mercy, so it was always kill or be killed. Only the strongest became Widows. Everyone else was eliminated.
"Kindness always got the people I cared about killed. The only person I was able to save from that fate was Sakura. If she had stayed in the Red Room, it wouldn't have mattered that she was a successful subject for his experiments, or that he could use her as leverage over SHIELD. He would've killed her one way or another. That's why I had to get her out before her...her graduation ceremony. She would've allowed herself to be killed because she understands kindness and mercy in a way that other Widows don't. I couldn't let that happen."
Kakashi didn't want to dwell on the darkness in your tone when you mentioned this "graduation ceremony," and he also didn't want to ask questions when you were already sharing so much with him.
"I can see now why she's so kind. I see that same kindness in you," you muttered, giving him a quick, embarrassed glance. "She always talked about you with so much hope. She said that you would come for her, and that she'd convince you to help me too. She told me that was just who you were.
"You're her hero. And I see why. You're kinder than most people," you said quietly. "I don't want to be the reason that you die."
Kakashi sat in the silence that followed your words and wondered how hard it would be to get his hands on Orochimaru. He wondered how many lives were being torn apart because of his twisted ideals. How many daughters were being given to a monster.
"You don't think you're kind?" he finally asked.
"No, I don't think so," you scoffed, "I've killed a lot of people. People who cared about me. I wouldn't call that kind."
He thought about Obito. He thought about Rin.
"I'm a Widow. That's what I was raised to be, and it's all I'll ever be. That's why I need to leave. Death follows Widows no matter how hard they try to escape it. I thought that I could try to stay and force myself to be something I'm not, but that would be selfish. If I stayed, I would just be hurting all of you in the long run."
"I've killed people, too."
You didn't look up. He took a deep breath.
"I killed my best friend."
The words felt like knives leaving his throat, but he wanted to meet you on even ground. He didn't want you to think that he was any better than you.
You stared at him, and he realized that this was one of the first things he'd shared with you about his life before he took the kids in. It was a life that he had fought desperately to leave behind for their sakes.
"You say I'm kind," he glanced at you. You were already looking at him, "and that you're not. But we've both hurt people that we care about."
Your face twisted, and he could tell that you wanted to argue, but you kept your lips sealed shut.
"It's hard to forgive ourselves for the things we've done. It took me a long time, and some days I feel like I'm back where I started. But then I look at them," he glanced at the backseat fondly, "and I think to myself, 'I found them when they were with people who resented them and hurt them, and they're still some of the best kids I've ever met. If I was able to raise them to hold on to their kindness despite all of the people who hurt them, there must be something good inside of me too.'"
He was having trouble keeping his eyes on the road. He wished he was having this conversation somewhere else, where he could look at you. To make sure that you were hearing what he was trying to say. That you believed the words were true.
"Sakura is kind because that's who she's always been. But she was able to hold onto that kindness in the Red Room because you protected it. That has to mean that there's kindness in you that's worth protecting too."
You shook your head, but he could tell that his words were starting to get through your seemingly impenetrable wall.
"You told me that you'd try," he said, "and I think you meant it."
This threat of HYDRA coming for you was only part of the reason you didn't want to stay. This possibility of a real life away from the Red Room was becoming too real. He could tell that the idea of being free terrified you.
"Just take it all one day at a time. If not for yourself, then for Sakura. Because if you leave, she'll just track you down and drag you back."
Your laugh was quieter this time, but it was real laughter. It was hope.

Arriving back at the compound was somehow more headache-inducing then leaving for it had been. Kakashi hadn't traveled with all of the kids together in four years, but they still acted like the same twelve-year-olds that he remembered with their constant bickering.
Once he got them all inside, he felt some of his tension bleeding away. He'd forgotten how exhausting trips like that could be with so many people jammed in one car.
"Hey. Widow."
Kakashi slumped in defeat at the sound of Sasuke's cold voice. You had been trailing Kakashi into the compound, aimlessly looking for something to do to pass the time, and Kakashi was hoping that you'd be able to sit with him and read Icha-Icha until you went back to sleep and rested for a while. At the very least, he'd been hoping that you would be able to readjust to the compound for a while before Sasuke started more conflicts.
Sasuke's tone was chilly, though that had nearly become a permanent part of his interactions with you. To Kakashi's relief, you looked unfazed by the title as you turned on your heel to face the boy.
"Follow me."
With no more explanation, Sasuke turned and began making his way further into the compound. Kakashi wanted to tell you that you didn't need to indulge in Sasuke's ambiguous request, but when he turned, you had already started following behind the boy.
"Maa, Sasuke," he sighed, "can't we have one day of rest?"
Tumblr media
While you weren't sure what to expect when Sasuke stopped in front of a dark room and searched for a light switch, you weren't too surprised when the lights revealed a well-equipped gym.
"Come on," Sasuke nodded towards the middle of the gym where mats were spread out every few feet, all evenly spaced and well-worn. "we're sparring."
You glanced towards the door at Kakashi, who was watching the interaction with interest. Down the hall, Sakura and Naruto were following the sound of Sasuke's commands curiously.
"Sensei, what's going on?"
Sakura's face flushed with anger when Sasuke squared up in front of you. You could hear the disbelief in her tone, and you wished that Sasuke would at least try to be more civil for her sake, but you also understood his unrelenting suspicion.
He was looking at you so furiously, and you found it hard to believe that all of this anger was directed towards you. You vaguely remembered Kakashi mentioning that Sasuke had a brother that he was afraid of, and you wondered if that's who the boy was thinking about right now. Perhaps your intrusion into his life was bringing back unpleasant memories. Or maybe it was the threat that you posed to his family.
When you stepped onto the mat, his attack was immediate. It wasn't the smartest move, but he was likely running on pure emotion. All of his anger at you was finally spilling over, and it was making him sloppy.
Even so, he was a good fighter. His movements were fluid, and he was able to surprise you more than once.
But he was outmatched. You'd been raised to win matches like this.
The fight wouldn't have lasted as long as it did if you'd put your all into it, but it still ended with Sasuke's chest pinned under your knee. He was panting, staring up at you in fury.
"Why did I lose?" he panted after a moment.
You blinked at him, staying crouched at his side when he made no move to stand.
"With more training, you'll improve–"
"No," he snapped, "what did I do wrong? Tell me what I need to do to win."
The kid was determined, you'd give him that. You stood and held a hand out, feeling a small sense of victory when he took it with only a few seconds of hesitation.
"You were letting your emotions guide your actions. While that can be useful in battles of strength, Widows specialize in stealth and agility. You need to be able to focus on every move I make if you want to win. Find the pattern to your opponent's movements. There will always be one. Once you've done that, you can try to exploit it. But you won't be able to find it if you're too focused on being angry."
"Okay," Sasuke gave a short nod and raised his fists, "again."
It took seven more rounds of this for the cycle to break. Naruto had brought a deck of cards to the gym from his room, and he, Sakura, and Kakashi were playing while keeping an eye on you and Sasuke.
"Stop going easy on me," Sasuke growled when you pinned him to the ground for the eighth time. He shoved you away and stood on his own, running a frustrated hand through his hair.
"Alright," you said, "I won't."
Sakura stood at your words and approached the mats nervously, but Sasuke just grinned.
It took about a quarter of the time for you to take him down, but he didn't seem as upset by the outcome this time. In fact, he seemed rather satisfied that you were using your full strength.
"You need to be more flexible with your strategies," you told him when he looked at you expectantly from the floor. "The ones you've developed are good, and they'll serve you well with many opponents, but not with Widows. Fighting elites like the ones trained in the Red Room is like a game of chess. No matter how clever you think your techniques are, once they catch on to the way you move, it becomes about three times easier for them to win. And it won't take long for them to figure you out.
"It's not easy to strategize and fight at the same time, so you'll need to practice until you can predict your opponent's movements based on different factors like where their weight is shifted and what their previous move was. No matter how well-trained someone is, everyone has certain patterns that they fall back on during a fight. When you find it, you have to take advantage. The second you see that your opponent has begun taking on a recognizable form of attack, you can react quickly and catch them off guard."
Sasuke nodded once, then got to his feet again, though he was moving slower now. You hadn't looked at the time since you'd begun, but it had probably been at least an hour.
"I'm done for the day," you waved him off when he raised his fists again, "but you're already improving. You're a quick learner."
"You can keep going," Sasuke bit out, frozen to his spot on the map, "I know you can. You've barely broken a sweat."
"Sasuke–"
You met Sakura's eyes and gave her a subtle shake of your head. Whatever the reason for Sasuke's unrelenting suspicion of you for the past two months, it likely had to do with whatever was going on in his head right now.
When you saw Kakashi looking at you, you tried to read what he was thinking, but he was giving nothing away.
"I didn't say I couldn't," you turned around with a shrug that was likely the cause of his irritated huff, "I just don't want to."
"I don't care," Sasuke spit. "We're going again."
"Why are you so desperate?"
You turned back on your heel and tilted your head at the boy. He looked taken aback, probably too exhausted to recognize the real answers that you were trying to get from him. The way you were attempting to manipulate the boy almost made you feel like Orochimaru. You cut through the thought before you could ponder on it further.
"I'm not desperate. I want to get stronger."
"You've clearly exhausted yourself. Overexerting your muscles isn't good for you, you know."
"No," Sasuke growled. "I haven't. I want to go again."
"Not today," you shook your head, "not unless you can give me a good reason why I should."
"Because we're letting you stay here even though you're more trouble than you're worth," he said with a glare. You ignored the voice in the back of your head telling you that he was right and advanced on him further.
"No, Kakashi's letting me stay here. If it were up to you, I'd have been gone four weeks ago. Try again."
Sasuke was making no efforts to hide how angry he was now, abandoning the progress he'd made during your spars. Now he looked like he wanted to fight you outside of a controlled environment, without Kakashi standing by ready to stop him. You wondered once again if it was really you he was seeing, or if there was someone else he wanted to take his anger out on.
"I need to understand how you were able to keep Sakura safe and get her out when I couldn't even stop her from getting taken," he finally said, though he didn't look happy admitting it to you, "I need to make sure I'm strong enough to beat someone like you. If they come here to hurt the people I care about, I have to be strong enough to stop them."
He was taking on quite a bit on his own, but you knew that you didn't have much room to speak on that issue. Sakura was the only person you'd ever felt that fierce protection for, but you understood his frustration to an extent. At the very least, you understood failure. You understood wanting to make up for failure.
But from where you stood, it looked a lot like Sasuke was punishing himself for his inability to keep Sakura safe.
"Alright," you bent your knees, positioning yourself in front of Sasuke like you each time before in the past hour. His eyes widened before he followed suit, triumphant smirk growing on his lips, "if you win, we'll keep going for as long as you want. We can even pick back up tomorrow if you're not satisfied. But if I take you down first, we stop, and you stop looking at me like I'm the enemy. Deal?"
"Tch. Fine."
This match was admittedly a bit harder that the ones before. While you'd told Sasuke that emotion wasn't the way to win against a Widow, the fury behind his attacks wasn't something to be taken lightly. However, they were sloppily dealt, and his openings were easy to find.
"Alright, then," you said when he was staring up at you from the ground, "that means we're done."
Sasuke looked a little dazed after hitting his head against the mat so many times, but he got to his feet and glanced at you tiredly. He took your outstretched hand with little thought, likely letting himself succumb to exhaustion now that he'd finished sparring for the day. When he began to pull away, you tightened your grip on his hand and pulled him forward so that he was facing you. Your eyes were hard as you stared at him, making sure he wasn't too tired to keep from hearing what you needed to say to him.
"I don't know who you're so angry with," you said lowly, grip tight on his hand, "but you're wasting your energy by placing that anger on me. And if you wanted to get stronger, you could've just asked for my help. A Widow is not a bad ally to have."
He stared at you for a long moment. Then he nodded once and dropped your hand.
You took it for what it was. An acceptance of your olive branch. At the very least, it was one less thing keeping you from staying.
Sasuke left looking significantly calmer than he had when he entered. Following him was a slightly-less angry Sakura and a nervous-looking Naruto who was trying to mediate the argument between the two. You watched them go with a small smile. Maybe now Sasuke could start focusing all of that furious energy where it would be helpful.
It wouldn't hurt to open up to his friends, either.
"Am I...staying in the same room as before?"
You were still looking down the empty hall, watching the kids disappear from view in an effort to keep from looking at Kakashi.
"If you want to," he shrugged, "I don't sleep on the couch here. It's not as cozy."
You didn't want to acknowledge the fear that rushed through you at the idea of spending an indefinite number of days haunted with nightmares, but you also didn't want to admit that being around Kakashi helped so much.
"That's okay," you shrugged, "I wasn't expecting you to."
You cringed at how obvious the lie was.
"Thank you for letting me stay," you turned to him, looking anywhere but his eyes. You felt something sinking in your stomach as you stepped farther away from Kakashi and closer to your nightmares, but you ignored it. You'd spent most of your life sleeping alone. You weren't so weak now that you couldn't handle it anymore.
There was no guarantee that you would always have Kakashi to help you sleep at night. Keeping yourself from becoming dependent on him would only help you in the long run.
Despite the attempts you were making at spinning your solitude into something positive, your fear rocked you to sleep and met you again in your nightmares.

"What are you waiting for?"
"Don't make me hurt her. Please."
"If you won't end it quickly," Kabuto smiled cruelly and pulled a knife from its sheath at his side, "I'll make sure she suffers."
Sakura looked more like a ghost than a person as she sat in front of you, but she was still alive. For now, she was still breathing.
The gun in your hand only had one bullet left. A bullet that was meant for her.
"I'll take her place," you sobbed, falling at Kabuto's feet. The look of disgust on his face was familiar and gut-wrenching. Shame pooled in your stomach.
"You're a traitor," he spat, taking your jaw in one hand and pulling you to your feet, "and this is your penance. We don't need her, so to prove your loyalty, you will take care of the mess that you created."
"Anything else," you begged, "I'll do anything you want, just let her go."
"There's nothing else he wants," Kabuto grinned, cruel and sharp, "you betrayed him after everything he did for you. You threw his kindness away. And for what? Some pathetic attempt at companionship?"
You let out a sob when Kabuto covered your hand with his and curled your fingers tightly around the gun.
"He wants to see you suffer for what you've done," Kabuto grinned wickedly. The hand that he reached towards you almost seemed gentle as it followed the path of your tears down your cheek, but the painless motion ended when he wrapped his fingers around your throat and led you forward. He stopped you when you were back in front of Sakura and dug his nails into the skin of your neck.
"This is what you are," he said quietly, guiding your arm until the gun was pointed at Sakura. She didn't move. She didn't even blink. She just stared at you with the same, empty eyes that you'd seen when she was under Orochimaru's control. Or what you thought was his control.
"You should be proud," his whisper was almost gentle as he covered your hand with his own and turned the safety off with a click, "to serve Orochimaru. He gives you purpose. Show your gratitude."
His hand left yours, but his voice still lingered at your side.
"Don't deny your nature. If you do this, he will allow you back into the Red Room. He will understand that you were simply being led down the wrong path. Correct your mistakes here, and you can come home."
Home. You wanted to be home more than anything.
"Do what you were made for."
The crack of the bullet hitting its target felt like a warm welcome. It felt like a second chance at fulfilling the only purpose you'd ever known.
You woke drenched in sweat and heaving for air. Tears were dried on your face, and you scrubbed at them to rid yourself of the feeling of the salt water pulling at your skin. It felt the same as it had in the dream. You thought you could still feel Kabuto brushing the tears away.
It wasn't a kind gesture. Not like Kakashi's gentle touch had been.
You hadn't fully regained awareness of your surroundings when you stood and stumbled towards your door. You followed the familiar path that you'd taken to Kakashi room before the mission, but stopped with a jolt of nerves as you wondered why you were seeking him out.
What were you doing here? Looking for comfort? Only a couple of months away from the Red Room, and already you couldn't handle sleeping alone.
However, for the first time, your pride was outmatched by your fear. It was consuming you.
You didn't want to be alone.
You knocked quietly on his door. If he had been asleep, it might've been too quiet for him to hear. You almost hoped that he wouldn't open it. At the very least, it would save you from having to explain yourself.
When he did, you were surprised that you felt relief instead of the expected disappointment.
He also looked different than usual.
"You...aren't wearing your mask."
You should've thought of something to say. You probably looked like an idiot, standing at his door and wondering why he would take his mask off to sleep.
"No, I'm not," he said with a small smile. He rubbed a hand over his face, covering most of the skin that was usually hidden by his mask. He felt naked without it, especially when you were looking at him so intently. "Is everything okay?"
"Oh. Yes, it's fine. Sorry to bother you."
The tear tracks on your face told him otherwise. He took your hand to stop you from turning around, noting the way your shoulders went rigid at his touch.
"Do you want to come in?"
No.
You did not want to come in. You wanted to go back to your room. You didn't even know what you were doing here.
You could deal with a few nightmares on your own.
You were stronger than this. Stronger than some fear-driven need to be near another person while you slept.
Nightmares were for children.
You were not raised to be weak.
But...
You were tired. You were so, so tired.
"Yes."

Author's note | thank you for reading! i'm in the middle of finals right now, but i've had this chapter written for a while, and i had a chunk of time to edit. i have most of the next chapter written as well, so hopefully i can keep getting chapters published regularly. my finals are over on the 15th, so there won't be too long of a wait even if i can't write much in the next week.
anyways, let me know what you guys think of this chapter! i was a bit conflicted about the beginning argument while i was writing it, and it went through significant edits, but i feel like it fits with the readers transition into life with kakashi and the others. don't get used to the hurt/comfort and fluff though, shit hasn't hit the fan yet :) see y'all in the next chapter, and don't forget to leave me some love!

Kakashi Hatake :
Tumblr media
You were very close to the Uchiha clan and you were devastated by the events of that famous night which had deprived you forever of your two best friends Shisui and Itachi.
It seemed to be a twist of fate when you stumbled upon a strange black notebook that you had found in the forest under a bramble bush - ouch
Once you got to know the God of Death, whom you discovered was called Ryuk, you decided to use the extraodinary power of this find to avenge the death of your friends and the Uchiha clan
The first person you used it on was of course Danzo Shimura, the one who caused the situation to go wrong
Of course you didn't do this in the normal way, you could have just written his name down and made him die of a heart attack but you made a show of it, you made him go to the public square, explain his crimes, show the eye he had stolen from Shisui and the eyes he had grafted in his right arm, after that you made him tear out his eye and cut off his arm before cutting off his tongue, the tongue that had caused so much harm before he stuck the kunai in his lung and let him die of asphyxiation
Of course everyone - or almost everyone - had witnessed the scene and was almost more shocked at what he had done while he was alive than at the violence of his death
Kakashi had noticed that day that the atmosphere in the village had changed, a climate of fear reigned
All thought it was made by a Genjutsu but Sasuke had disappeared, only Kakashi remained, who of course knew that he had done nothing. However he noticed that you didn't seem to be really upset, dare he even say that you seemed happy about it. After all it was legitimate but still
So he decided not to worry but to keep an eye on you, not because he suspected you but in case the author of this act tried to come after you
But if only he knew
After that you started to go on missions for the Hokage, without telling him, you always took missions that would allow you to be in the same area as the enemies that you wanted to get ride of with your Death Note and thanks to the power of the Shinigami eyes
No one ever made the connection between your missions and his unexpected deaths
Well, nobody except Kakashi, who noticed that the deaths were taking place during the same periods as your absences, he just didn't know where you were going or where the enemies you were killing were
He had also noticed a strange change in your aura, a kind of melancholy associated with eagerness but what he didn't know. It also seemed that on the rare occasions when you were in Konoha and he came to spend time with you, you refused to go out all the time and even did everything to get him out of your house as soon as possible, as if you had better things to do
He would have advised you to sleep, because of the dark circles under your eyes that showed your lack of sleep
But EVERYTHING went wrong one evening, when he was walking in the forest to clear his head, he stumbled upon a familiar figure lying on her stomach on the ground behind a bush, writing frantically and laughing psychotically
His eyes widened and he stepped on a branch that cracked making you stop moving before whipping your head towards him
"Y/n what are you doing here ?" he asked his voice shaking as if it knew something more than he did. He held his hand out to you to help you up, but it didn't have the desired effect at all
"Don't touch it ! Stay back !" you yelled clutching the Death Note against your chest, he took another step in your direction, resuming in you throwing a kunai at his feet made him stop his advance
"Y/n what the hell are you doing ?" he asked surprised in his voice clear and noticeably out of breath
Another noise was heard and Anbus ninjas, which obviously took you in tailing for a while already, unfortunately your measures did not allow you to escape
"L/n Y/n you are under arrest" one of them shouted at you but you didn't listen to anything
You quickly wrote their names while avoiding their attacks, they all started to fight again one another and the last one fell down dead of a heart attack in the next 30 seconds under the frightened eyes of Kakashi
"I'm ridding the world of evil and creating a utopia. No matter how much time I have, it won't be enough. I have no time to loose on you"
He couldn't believe his eyes, his legs were shaking slightly and his breathing was shallow "Oh no not again" he thought, he felt like the day he had seen Obito again after all those years thinking he was dead
Your wild eyes locked on his, and he took a step backwards for fear that you would decide to attack him if you felt rushed by his proximity
"Please Y/n put that down we'll settle-"
"No ! I did this for all of us ! I have avenged the village and I will continue to purify the world as a vengeful and protective deity-"
"Protective deity ? Can you hear yourself talk ?!?" his brain was working at full speed, how should he handle the situation, should he arrest you or let you execute criminals at all, should he go as far as killing you- no no it's impossible, he already lost everything, he can't afford to lose the person he cares about the most to die, not by his hand, not again ( I'm not saying that he loved Rin only that he killed her with his hand )
"Don't you find life in the village better now that I have blessed it with my power ! Don't you feel the serenity of the place ?
"Y/n..." he said sadly, his voice low, "You are rambling. You are not in your right mind. Let me help you-" he took another step slowly towards you
"Not one more move or I'll have to clean the village of your presence as well !" your trembling hand holding your pen, holding it perpendicular to the page of the notebook, your voice echoed in the moonlit forest in a frightening manner
Kakashi couldn't believe his eyes you were going to coldly kill him, but he couldn't let you do that, however he couldn't bring himself to kill you either, but little by little he realized that it was either you or him, and who knows what you would be capable of doing after killing the man you had shared your life with for all those years
Suddenly you saw him put his hand in the pocket of his bag and you rushed to write his name on the notebook
"Kakashi Hata-"
Too late, an erasure coming down from your "A" scratched the bottom of the page as your hand jerked uncontrollably as the pen - your weapon - slipped from your hand, as the kunai in your throat made you choke, so that you spat blood on the open page of the notebook and dropped it to the ground
Kakashi had acted without thinking, out of survival, he didn't think either when he set fire to the damned book he thought was cursed
He took you in his trembling arms, tears forming in his eyes, he uttered apologies expressing all the regret that consumed him secondes after what he did, but nothing reached your ears which could only hear a white and continuous sound, like a whistle
You continued to flail frantically in his arms as you watched your Death Note burn, until exhaustion forced you to close your eyes
You wondered if it was the kunai that would take your life first or if it was the burning notebook that would have the upper hand, but wasn't it you who started it all ?
"It was the right thing to do... you'll be more useful to them than me" you coughed blood on his chest leaning over you, as if the old you wanted to speak one last time
"Don't wear yourself out, I-I'll take you back to the village, you'll be fine, I-I love you please stay with me" he was talking so fast, but yet he was slowly realizing what was happening and that maybe you wouldn't make it
You closed your eyes in exhaustion, feeling his love surround you, it almost didn't hurt anymore with his warmth against you
He panicked as he felt your body relax in his arms, he repeated your name over and over frantically like a mantra, tears flowing from his eyes like streams
And just like that it was over, after a lifetime together with each other, you were going separate ways for the first time
Kakashi would continue to curse himself for the rest of his life for not knowing how to handle the situation in a better way and for not realizing it before
However what was done was done and he would have to live with it, he just hoped that once everything was over he would be able to find you, in heaven or in hell
During his next battle he will be informed that his pupil has changed, thanks to you he developed the Mangekyō Sharingan
Shikamaru Nara :
Tumblr media
Let's say that if you found the Death Note and got the Shinigami eyes 5 months ago, well he was suspecting it since the first month
Actually you knew each other since your first year at the Ninja school and you were dating for almost 3 years now
His intelligence helped him a lot but contrary to what we can think it's not a change of your behavior that made him have this intuition
In fact, your intelligence was neck and neck with his, so you always pretended to be less intelligent than you were, so that those who thought were manipulating you would be caught in their own trap
However in this case you got caught in your own trap, at first you only used your eyes to know the names of the people you had to kill for the sake of the Ninja World - you were convinced of that, after all who could have done it if you didn't
But it only lasted a month and soon you turned to bigger and bigger criminals, which of course attracted the attention of Konoha's intelligence services
It was Shikaku, Shikamaru's father, who realized that the killer had to be from Konoha, because the deaths happened just after the said criminal had harmed Konoha in any way
Of course to complete your mission you had to infiltrate the Intelligence Service to keep up to date with everything that was going on and so you know about their progress on the investigation
Shikamaru noticed the dark circles under your eyes, or the twitch of your eyes the moments when someone made you angry, you could really look mad in those moments but being the relaxed boy he is he didn't pay more attention to it but he smtill kept it in a corner of his mind... just in case
The moment you got caught was the moment you let your feelings show the most
Indeed, Azuma sensei had been killed by Hidan's hand with the assistance of Kakuzu his Akatsuki companion. Shikamaru, Ino and Shoji were devastated
Shikamaru's eyes were full of sadness and hatred, which made you do what would start the process that would end your reign
Just two days after this tragic event you returned to your room and retrieved your Death Note which you had cleverly hidden in a wall in your room. You had been on the said mission which had ended with the death of your boyfriend's sensei, so you had thanks to your Shinigami eyes been able to see the first and last names of Hidan and Kakazu, and it was a piece of cake for you to remember them
You began to smile unhealthily as you wrote down the little story you had prepared for their grand finale
You made sure to manipulate Naruto ( sorry bro but I had to ) so that he asked the 3 ex-team members of Team 10 to go near the Konoha village gate
As you expected, Hidan and Kakazu arrived, all your friends who attended the scene mouth agape for some and jaw clenched for Shikamaru, he tried to use the Shadow Possession Jutsu to stop them but nothing happened for the good and simple reason that the power of the Death Note was greater
The two men continued to walk with ease, in an almost robotic way until they reached the group. Once they were at a decent distance, they bent down to 90 % and in a monotonous voice apologized for what they had done. Kakazu gave a kunai to Hidan, everyone jumped backwards but Hidan turned the weapon towards Kakuzu and pierced all his hearts and he died in a pool of blood. Then Hidan ( I'm so sorry baby T.T ) took the kunai and after apologizing one last time he stuck it in the throat, under the astonished eyes of everyone
Of course you knew that because that's what you had written, for obvious reasons you couldn't risk going to blow your cover on the field
Of course this was hidden from the other members of the village and the Intelligence Service started to do the necessary research to find the origin of what had just happened
After this eventful night, Shikamaru went to the Intelligence Office reluctantly, he went to get the information about the serial deaths. Of course it didn't take him long before he was caught by a colleague of his father and was thrown into his office. His father half-heartedly made it clear to him that you were the prime suspect and Shikamaru reluctantly explained what he had seen change in you over the past 4 months
And so in the same way that L found out that Kira was living in Tokyo, it was broadcast on your television that Shikamaru had died, killed by the same cold hand that had perpetrated all these murders, and you had run to his house, losing all notion of your plan, forgetting that it could only be a crazy scheme, and you had screamed that you it wasn't possible, taht something else must have killed him and that the killer was going to pay from your hand
But as you were about to go home to think, you felt that you had lost control of your body and you were completely frozen in place
"Shadow Possession Jutsu now complete"
When you recognized him you burst into tears, not only out of relief but also because you realized that you had they must have found out
"No I-I-I did everything for the good of the village y-YOU CAN'T DO THIS TO ME ! NOT AFTER ALL I'VE DONE !" as you started to scream your voice had changed in a frightening way and you started to shout to - it seemed to someone that nobody else could see - to do something
Shikamaru was frightened and disconcerted by the situation, he grabbed you in his arms as if he suspected that it might be the last time he could hold you like this, he understood why you did it but he couldn't validate your way of doing it
"Ryuk you FUKCING PIECE OF SHIT I'M YOUR MASTER YOU MUST OBEY-"
"Shhhhhh Y/n please don't make it anymore difficult" Shikamaru's voice slightly broke which made you look up at him, your crazy eyes staring into his, a pang in your heart was felt when you saw the tears rolling down his cheeks
You tried to bring your hands to his cheeks but you couldn't move any more "I did it for you Shikamaru, for us, for the village" as you spoke you thought of everything, maybe you could give up the Death Note and get the Shinigami eyes back until the division of your life expectancy would be not enough to keep you alive but unfortunately it was impossible the Death Note was still in your house
You were thrown into the dungeon, of course they tried to make you talk, but nothing happened as they expected, it seemed that you had found a way to get a piece of a page of the Death Note with which you proceeded to assassinate Ibiki, his screams were almost hidden by bursts of voice as you stood over him "I am righteous ! I'm the Hero who's liberating people from fear. I'm the Savior who's going to be like a Goddess of this perfect new world !"
Then everyone agreed on the fact that you were a threat to Konoha and they chose to end your life as quickly as possible
Of course back in those days no one knew what had happened to you and Shikamaru didn't learn this until years later when he was hired as the Hokage's right hand man.
The news took him back to that very dark part of your childhood and he was once again devastated
But did he know that you managed to escape just in time ? How could he ? Konoha had been so ashamed that they preferred not to mention anywhere this important information In any case you were still there preparing your return. Oh yes, it was going to be a blast "That's right. I win !"
Naruto Uzumaki :
Tumblr media
Naruto is a smart boy but in this case it's not him who will realize it, not by himself, maybe Shikamaru will tell him or he will realize that Tsunade is hiding something from him, if for example she would ask him to keep an eye on you for your safety, when he is already doing it, or if she would ask Yamato or Sai to follow you
You used the Death Note to get rid of the Akatsuki members who were stealing their lives ( except Itachi  because he deserves the world )
Of course nobody understood and everybody was chocked when they learned the news of the death of the powerful nunkenins who formed the Akatsuki
Your behavior had also changed a lot, dark circles had appeared under your eyes, you fidgeted a lot, but most of the time you managed to keep the act of the happy girl you used to be, wonderfully foolinganyone who crossed your path
Finally the only problem was that you didn't think that Kurama, the Nine-Tailed Fox spirit that Naruto had just befriended, would have the ability to see the God of Death that had been with you since you had found the Death Note. And of course he had told his host
Naruto couldn't believe his ears, how could he believe that you, his sweet and compassionate girl, would be able to kill in such an arbitrary way
"They say that love makes you blind Naruto, not stupid" Kurama had warned him and his words were still echoing in the head of the blond after 3 good days
Naruto being Naruto he didn't bother to think about it and just confronted you
Of course he didn't lose sight of your objective and refuted everything he said with a big smile painted on your lips
Of course convinced that you would never do any harm in this way he left your house reassured and serene
While you quickly went back to your room to add some names in your Death Note
But if you thought you were alone now that Naruto was gone, you didn't count on a ninja sent by Tsunade who had totally disappeared his presence to spy on you
Of course you were caught, and taken by force to the office of the Hokage, your Death Note forgotten on your desk, too bad Tsunade should have taken an Anbu rather than a vulgar jönin
Of course your screams had alerted many people and Naruto had found himself in less time than it takes to say it in the 5th Hokage's office
"Grandma Tsunade ! Where is Y/n ?!? Why did you take her ?!?"
"That's none of your business Naruto !!" she roared at him
He immediately understood that if she didn't want to tell him it was because you were in a bad situation
He rushed into the dungeons, once in front of it he stopped dead in his tracks when he heard your screams, he panicked thinking that you were being tortured, he moved forward discreetly to be able to hit from behind whoever was hurting you but when he arrived in front of your cell he only saw you and he could hear clearly what you were saying, and it was as if his world had just collapsed
"I order you to let me out of here you subhuman. I've never been so humiliated in my entire life"
"Y-Y/n ?"
"Naruto ?!? Please come and help me ! I'm the only one who can save the village !"
He didn't understand what you had to save the village from and obviously his lack of action made you snap at him
"Naruto write her name in my notebook ! Don't listen to anyone and write her name ! Don't let her keep us apart like this !"
He shook his head as he took a few steps towards you "Y/n what are you talking about-"
"I'll tell you how to do it ! Just get me out of this cell !"
"Sorry I can't-" you didn't listen to the rest of his excuse and invoked your Death Note ready to manipulate anyone - even him - to get you out of that damn cell
"Hey no ! Multi Shadow Clone Jutsu !" a clone of Naruto caught you in his arms and kicked the notebook out of the cell
Held in his arms you were fussing around like a wild animal "Don't you dare touch me I'm your Goddess !
"Dattebayo Y/n calm down ! What's wrong with you !"
You started to shake and suffocate in his arms, he was going to ruin everything you've been doing all this time just like that with a stupid clone when you had the power of a God of Death on your side
"Y/n ! Oh fuck ! Dattebayo breathe !" he prayed as he ran his hand reassuringly over your back "It's okay we'll get through this together ! All is not lost !"
And finally by dint of talking you were forced to listen to him and breathe calmly, his words gave you hope, but not like he would have wanted
If you were thinking well the Death Note was not the only way to come to your ends. There were great ninjas out there who had left the village to try to become more powerful - cough cough Orochimaru - that you could try to find and try to be the student of
You looked up and met Naruto's eyes, he had succeeded in making peace with Kyubi, the Nine-Tailed Fox spirit so why couldn't you succeed in leaving the village and following the teachings of these great ninjas
You couldn't give up on the Death Note though because if you did you would forget the fight you had now decided to lead
"Fine" you let your body clamor in the arms of his clone as he brushed your hair with his fingers, far from thinking that now and with half of the life you had left you were going to do everything to reach this divine power in another way than with the help of Ryuk
Whether you like it or not, you will get out of this cell, you will leave this village and you will become powerful and you will purify the world of the filth that poisons it
And they would fear the wrath of a Goddess, they would fear you
Cut to Naruto following you all around the country like he did with Sasuke

“Thanks, for letting me borrow your Statistics notes.” The Uchiha said, gathering the array of folders and papers that lay sprawled across your bed.
“No worries, Sasuke.” You gave the handsome man a reassuring look in which he responded with a small smile of his own. No sooner than you could say another word, the wooden door leading into your dorm room flung open.
“Y/N, The student union has a new kind of ramen! We have to g-” your loud yet loveable blonde best friend said as he burst through the door, with no regard to what else was going on around him.
Typical.
Sasuke looked up at the tall figure in front of him with a disgruntled expression on his face as his black orbs locked onto the baby blue ones that stood in the doorway.
“Tch. We’re busy. Be gone, loser.” The Uchiha said, spitting his venomous words in Naruto’s direction.
To his dismay, Naruto looked back and forth between you and Sasuke, suddenly feeling as if he was interrupting something. Naruto approached the bed where you and Sasuke were sitting closer together than Naruto would’ve liked. An overwhelming sense of jealousy and insecurity washed over him.
“Don’t start with me, Sasuke!” Naruto’s voice boomed as he raised his fist in the Uchiha’s direction.
You immediately intervened by crawling out of the criss-cross applesauce position in which you sat in order to come between the two boys. You placed a firm hand on either boy's chest, making sure to create distance.
“Enough, you two!” you shouted, feeling as if you were suddenly babysitting children.
Naruto turned his head - clearly pouting and found a seat in the oversized bean bag chair in the corner of your dorm. Sasuke turned back to face you, ignoring Naruto - letting him have his small tantrum.
“So, are we still on for tomorrow night?” Sasuke asked, now completely unphased by Naruto’s presence in the room. Naruto’s eyes blew wide overhearing the conversation that you and Sasuke had plans.
“W-what’s happening tomorrow?” Naruto spoke up, face looking as pale as a ghost from trying to process the unexpected news that you were going on a date with the guy he hated the most - not caring that he was interrupting the private conversation once more.
Sasuke rolled his eyes, glaring once more at the blonde. “Nothing that involves you.”
You peered over at your friend whose arms were crossed, clearly looking disgruntled. As much as you were looking forward to going out with Sasuke - Naruto was the closest person in your life and seeing him upset just didn’t sit right with you.
“Actually…Sasuke.” you said, still not breaking your focus from where Naruto sat.
“How about we make it a double date?” Naruto immediately perked up and Sasuke groaned - annoyance written all over his face, however, Sasuke was starting to understand where he stood in your life compared to your childhood friend and decided to tread lightly, not daring to fling any more insults his way. After all, Sasuke was determined to score with you.
Sasuke grit his teeth, dreadfully coming to the realization that if he ever had a shot with you at all, he’d have to agree to let Naruto join.
“Sure, whatever. 7pm at the Beer Garden. Don’t be late.” Sasuke replied as cold and stern as ever.
Sasuke head nodded in your direction, signaling to you that he was leaving and made his way out the door, not allowing Naruto any space to give a reply. Naruto made his way across the room sitting next to you on your small university bed, giving you a painfully disgruntled look. You knew Naruto better than anyone and could pick up on his emotions without him saying much at all.
“I know what you’re thinking…” you said, breaking the slightly awkward silence that now filled the room.
Naruto, now staring down at the bed, swirling his finger around the plush comforter beneath him, momentarily staying quiet.
“I’m just blown away that you’re going on a date with some fuckboy prick like Sasuke Uchiha.” Jealousy unmistakingly lacing the blonde’s tone of voice.
You rolled your eyes. “He’s really not that bad, Naruto. He’s really…sweet.”
Naruto scoffed. “Sweet? Y/N…He doesn’t really care about you. He just wants to fuck you.” he replied, sounding absolute.
You were taken aback by Naruto’s uncharacteristically bluntness. “Naruto, what’s your deal with Sasuke? You both have been at each others’ necks forever! Don’t you think it’s time to let it go?”
Naruto sat still, wallowing in the jealous and intrusive thoughts that filled his head. The thought of Sasuke Uchiha getting to go home with you at the end of the night made his blood boil more than anything else. Naruto’s feelings for you were complicated, much like yours were for him.
You both had been friends forever and yet, you both had spent years tip-toeing around each other's feelings. The chemistry between you two was undeniable and everyone else saw it. Mama Kushina, only a year ago - had finally let go of the idea that you and her son would end up together as he began expressing an interest in other women. You had developed a serious crush on Naruto as early as middle school but as high school came to a close, you never dared to put your feelings out there. The thought of complicating or ruining your friendship was your worst nightmare and a bridge you vowed never to cross.
“I just don’t see what’s so great about some emo psych-major douchebag who just wants to score with my best friend.” Naruto replied huffily, not caring how envious he sounded.
Your eyes instantly softened at hearing how overprotective Naruto got over you. A part of you wanted to believe he was just doing his “best friend duties”…but another small part of you wondered if it was because he was actually jealous.
You chuckled, now lightening the mood. “I appreciate the concern, Naruto. I really do. You’re a great friend.” you smiled at the blonde, gently rubbing his back in appreciation for the way he always thought of your well being first.
Your touch on Naruto’s back caused him to jolt at the unexpected action. He could feel his face heat up and a slight, pink blush caressed his cheeks.
“Now, let’s go to the Student Union, I’m starving!” you said as you jumped off the bed and grabbed your Student ID, abruptly breaking the slightly intimate moment you had just shared. Naruto smiled to himself, following closely behind you as you made your way out of your room and down the hall.
>>>
“I heard from a friend of a friend that that dick was a 10 out of 10!!” you rapped along at the top of your lungs as Doja Cat’s “Need to Know” blared through the rooftop speakers of the bar that you and Sasuke had chosen for your double date night.
Naruto and Hinata laughed at the scene unfolding in front of them. Naruto, however, was already prepared for the way you became completely loose and unhinged after only a few drinks. Sasuke on the other hand wasn't exactly a fan of your behavior, as he leaned against the bar next to you trying to bury his head in his phone, completely unamused with the music choice and the fact that you were starting to cause a scene.
“Hinata, would you like to go sit down and talk?” Naruto asked his date. She nodded and grabbed his hand, leading him to a nearby cocktail table giving you and Sasuke some privacy to enjoy your night.
“Saaasukeee, you like Doja Cat, yeah?” you inquired, beginning to slur your words.
You couldn’t hold your liquor to save your life. The alcohol was flowing through your body causing it to tingle and heat up all over. Sasuke’s blank and uninterested expression was painfully written all over his face but you were too in tune with the music and the vibes of the bar were too electric to care about how grumpy your date seemed to be.
“This music isn’t really my thing. I say we just close the tab and head back to my place?” The raven-haired Uchiha urged, now standing in front of you, both arms on either side of you - trapping you between the bar and himself. His eyes were staring so deeply into your own it sent shivers up your spine.
You froze, instantly feeling like the date you were once so excited for was truly flopping right in front of your eyes. “Saasuke, weeee juuust got here. I don’t want to leave just yet!” you stomped your foot huffily.
Sasuke leaned in and started placing gentle kisses on your neck causing you to shiver once more. “C’mon babe. Let’s just go…I can guarantee you’ll have way more fun at my place than this crowded bar.” he whispered, now placing loose strands of hair behind your ear.
You pushed forcefully onto Sasuke’s chest to move him away from your body in which he had you practically pinned against the bar.
“Sasuke, no.” you said sternly, trying to make it clear to the Uchiha that you weren’t interested.
Sasuke groaned, now growing extremely impatient and irritated. “Really? This is how you’re going to be? I thought you wanted to go out? We went out. What else do you want?” The Uchiha, who had also been drinking, began getting louder and more irate with each question.
The sheer increase in volume was enough to spark Naruto’s attention even over the loud music of the rooftop bar. Startled, he dropped the straw back into the giant fishbowl drink that he and Hinata shared, immediately coming to your aid.
“What the hell is going on over here?!” Naruto yelled, snatching Sasuke’s arm away from you, now standing directly face to face with the Uchiha creating a safe distance between you two.
“Don’t try me, pretty boy, or I’ll rearrange your face. Sasuke snarled, immediately tensing his large fist into a ball. You quickly stepped out of the way of the two men, careful to not get in the crossfire in case an unexpected punch was thrown.
“Touch her again and I swear to God, you’ll be the one with a new face!” Naruto yelled, raring his fist back ready to strike the Uchiha.
Sasuke saw red. Jaw tensed, heart beating erratically, eyes locked onto his target not daring to look away. You sensed the sudden blood-thirst in the air and instinctively grabbed Naruto’s arm stopping him from landing a blow, desperately trying to pull him away from the angry, drunk Uchiha. No sooner than you could tear Naruto away, Sasuke landed a surprise blow right across Naruto’s cheek causing him to stagger backwards.
“Sasuke, what the fuck!?” you yelled as you watched your friend lay sprawled across the sticky bar floor flat on his back, dazed and completely caught off guard from the attack - his cheek already beginning to swell.
Naruto managed to pull himself up, charging full speed towards Sasuke, landing a blow right to the gut causing the Uchiha to stumble - losing his balance, hitting the concrete with a thud. Naruto now straddling Sasuke, sent another blow straight towards his cheekbone - Over and over until his swollen knuckles were covered in Sasuke’s warm blood.
>>>
“Hold still, Naruto.” you said as you carefully dabbed a warm washcloth around his red and swollen cheek.
Naruto hissed at the contact of the cloth to his badly bruised face. As you paid extra care and attention to your friend who’d bravely come to your aid, you couldn’t help but notice Naruto had locked eyes with yours. There was an alluring yet adorable softness to his gaze that made you shiver - your body covered in goosebumps at the sudden closeness.
You leaned back in the stool you were perched on that sat in between Naruto’s legs, instantly feeling a heavy awkwardness fill the room.
“W-What are you looking at?” you questioned, as your hand flung to your mouth anxiously biting the skin around your finger - a nervous tic you picked up years ago.
Naruto chuckled lowly - ignoring your question. “Ya know, you don’t have to do all of this? I’ll be fine.”
You sighed. “Of course I do. You literally got in a fight trying to protect me from that asshole.” You said, shooting Naruto a gracious smile. Naruto instantly grabbed both of your shoulders, pulling you closer to his face.
“Y/N…don’t you know that I’d do anything for you?” Naruto said as he stared deeply into your E/C eyes once more. He was so beautiful. His gaze so intoxicating you found yourself getting lost in the many hues of sky-blue that illuminated his irises.
You were immediately astounded and could feel yourself getting choked up and a bit tongue tied. “W- Well, of course… W- What are best friends for?” you replied nervously.
Naruto now having let go of your tensed shoulders, leaned back on his bed - lost in his thoughts. “Right. Best friends.” The bittersweet reality of those words left his lips sounding stale and full of disappointment.
You sighed, shaking off the lingering feeling that Naruto’s words were indeed laced with a romantic undertone. “Either way, I’m just glad you were there. I feel like such an idiot. You were right... He didn’t really care about getting to know me...”
You had finished cleaning up Naruto’s bruises and lazily crawled off the stool and onto the bed next to him, sitting criss-cross applesauce.
“Well, it’s his loss. You’re such an amazing girl and you deserve better than that prick.” Naruto said, brows furrowed - waving a dismissive hand.
You looked over at Naruto once more, rubbing your tired eyes, slightly awestruck - not sure if you were still partially drunk or if your best friend was actually flirting with you. You didn’t want to falsely get your hopes up or put more weight behind his words than intended but this was a feeling you couldn’t shake and quite frankly, the butterflies in your tummy that you were sure were long gone had suddenly begun to creep back in.
“You really think so?” you said, looking down once more - fidgeting with the skin around the nail on your fingers.
Naruto smiled, shaking his head with the utmost confidence. “I know so. Because, ya know… hypothetically speaking, If you were my girl, there’d never be a day where you’d have to question your worth.” The blonde nervously managed to state- now feeling his face heat up and the prettiest shade of pink wash over his whiskered cheeks.
You silently gasped. Mouth completely agape.
“Ok. He’s definitely flirting.” You thought to yourself as your heart rate steadily increased.
All you could do was sit there staring into Naruto’s eyes trying to process what you just heard. Images of hand holding, date nights, and sweet kisses at the end of every day flashed in your mind as you pictured what life could be like if you and Naruto stopped being so afraid to love each other. An overwhelming urge came over you to finally end the subtle hints, the confusion… the “What Ifs” and next thing you know, your plush lips found themselves connected to his.
Naruto immediately welcomed the kiss without any hesitation, running his hand through your hair as you both broke the sexual tension that’d been building for way too long. You were trying hard not to completely crumble as images of your childhood crush flashed like photographs in your mind over the years with whom you were now sharing a passionate kiss with.
You paused mid kiss, as your brain was trying to process too many things at once. “What about Hinata?” you whispered against Naruto’s soft pink lips.
“She’s not you.” he said, slightly pulling away from your lips before diving in once more, getting lost in the faint aroma of your perfume that was finally starting to wear off.
Your head was spinning, your heart practically beating out of your chest and with no time to think, you instinctively pulled your T-shirt over your head, tossing it across the room. Naruto’s eyes lit up at the sight as he’d never seen your exposed skin in this way before. Family beach trips certainly didn't count. This time you were vulnerable. Needy. Full of lust and wanting to pour all of that into him.
>>>
“Ahhh, oh my - fuck….you’re so tight, love. So fucking perfect. Naruto groaned out as he threw his head back hitting the headboard, pleasure surging throughout his entire body.
Naruto had your plush ass in his hands, digging his nails deep into every curve, carefully guiding you up and down his large, throbbing cock. Your arms were tightly wrapped around Naruto’s neck lazily playing with the adorable blonde tufts of hair that laid at the base of his skull. Euphoria continued to wash over you as you rhythmically slid your sopping wet cunt up and down, up and down.
“N- Naruto…It's going so deep, oh my godddd!” you moaned out with every forceful thrust Naruto made - burying his cock deep inside of you. You felt every ridge, every vein, even the slight curvature of his length causing you to lose your mind.
You could feel a familiar tightness in your stomach - your release slowly but surely bubbling up. He was so big you were almost unsure of how you’d comfortably ride him but when it came down to it - his cock fit so perfectly around your tight pussy it was as if you were made for each other.
Naruto moaned back in response as your slick hole strangled his cock in ways he’d never known before. The blonde carefully adjusted his position underneath you sitting upright - creating clear access to your large, exposed tits as they bounced in front of his face. Naruto’s breathing became shallow and unhinged as he began planting sloppy, wet kisses up and down your neck evoking desperate, needy whimpers from your lips.
“P- Please…more!” you begged, not wanting the pleasure to end.
No sooner than the words fell from your lips, you let out a gasp as Naruto latched onto your nipple, expertly licking and sucking the hard bud while letting you momentarily take the lead as you continued to sink down on his cock.
Your eyes rolled to the back of your head at the combination of this newfound pleasure Naruto was giving you and his delicious, guttural moans that bounced off the walls. With no time to think and your knees beginning to give out underneath you, Naruto released the squishy mound of flesh from his baby pink lips and carefully flipped you over so that he was now on top.
“You’re so fucking beautiful, Y/N…” Naruto said, panting - but trying to regain his composure ensuring he didn’t cum too quickly. He inspected your body as if it was the most glorious thing he’d ever seen. You both were over the moon, however; the orgasm that almost crashed into you earlier - slowly subsided with the change of position.
You felt yourself blushing under Naruto’s intense, lust-filled gaze - instinctively wanting to turn your head away from the incredibly overwhelming intimacy that came from missionary sex. Naruto, now hovering over you - blonde hair matted to his forehead from his sweat, leaned down and gently kissed your lips as he slid inside of you once more.
“Oh, Fuuckk, Nar-” you moaned into the Uzumaki’s mouth as his throbbing cock buried itself inside of your wet, slick, heat. Naruto scrunched his face as he began getting acclimated once more to your pussy as it clenched hard - sending him into a moaning frenzy.
“Make love to me.” you whispered.
Naruto smiled and kissed your nose. “Say no more.”
Once comfortable, Naruto began sliding in and out of you, carefully, delicately, trying hard to not lose control - beads of sweat racing down his temple.
“God… you’re everything to me” The blonde moaned out as he gently thrust once more, sending your mind and body into overdrive.
The mixture of sweet and sexy was too much for one person to process and your eyes began to sting and well up as a single tear drop fell. You had no idea that making love to the one person you’ve adored your entire life would evoke this kind of reaction but you just let it happen.
You let yourself feel.
“I…I love you, Naruto. I… aghhh, don’t stop. P-please don’t stop.” you whispered these sweet words that were melodic to the Uzumaki’s ears as he continued to drive himself into your wet hole - head buried into the crook of your neck.
Naruto leaned up slightly, using his thumb to wipe the tears from your eyes - placing a gentle kiss where every tear fell.
“I…I love you more, princess. a small chuckle fell from Naruto’s lips as you both were transported to another dimension of pleasure.
The sensation of it all was too much and being the gentleman that he was - Naruto was determined to hold himself off until you came first despite how hard it was. The sloshing sound of your pussy definitely made this no easy feat for the blonde. Moments later, the knot in your stomach tightened more intensely once more until an explosive orgasm washed over you.
“Fuuck, I’m cumming! oh my GOD!” you screamed out, causing your throat to go hoarse. The Feels, The Lust, The Pleasure - finally won as you clenched harder than ever releasing your creamy juices around Naruto’s cock.
No sooner than you met your release, it was obvious Naruto was starting to waver as well as he scrunched his face tighter than ever. “Fuck baby girl, I’m not going to last much longer…” Naruto said as he began to sloppily thrust to meet your weeping pussy. “I’m gonna fuckin cum baby…I’m fucking - Ughhhhh!” Naruto let out a strangled moan as his whole body spasmed, releasing his scorching hot cum into your tight hole - draining his balls entirely.
As Naruto pulled out and went to seek out a towel, all you could do was lay there, basking in the afterglow of the hot, messy, loving sex you just experienced with the person you trusted the most. Giving yourself time to think, process and figure out where you go from here…
>>>
The early morning sunlight had peeked through the curtains, hitting your face just enough to gently wake you up as you turned over to see Naruto’s arm still tightly wrapped around you. You carefully wriggled out of Naruto’s grip and slipped out of the bed, grabbing your shirt in the process.
You heard a shuffle under the covers and instantly knew you’d woken Naruto. “You’re leaving?” Naruto grumbled, one eye half open, peeking over the comforter to see you getting dressed.
You sighed, sitting back down on the edge of the bed. “Y-yeah, I figured I shouldn’t intrude…”
Naruto sat up, ruffling his adorable bed head. “You’re running away again.” Naruto said with certainty - frustration obvious in his tone.
“I…I’m just…” you were at a loss for words.
He was right. After letting the unexpected events from the day before marinate all night - it gave you enough time to go back to your usual habit of overthinking and pulling away. Sadly, it’s what you did best.
“Did you mean it?” Naruto said with a downtrodden look on his face. You looked over, sympathetically.
“Naruto…I…”
Naruto sighed, a look of hurt came over him. “Did you mean it? What you said yesterday…” he managed, averting his eyes away from yours.
“Yes! Of course I meant it. I’ve loved you for as long as I could remember but -”
“But, what…?!” Naruto said, cutting you off - voice slightly raised and growing impatient.
“I’m SCARED, okay?! I’m fucking terrified. I fucked my best and closest friend in the world yesterday whom I’ve adored since we were kids and I’ve never ever wanted to do something to compromise our friendship yet, here we are… Here I am… - an emotional fucking WRECK.”
You buried your head in your knees, full of anxiety. Afraid of what was to come next. It was sinking in that you and Naruto had taken a huge step - one you may never recover from, so you were having a full blown meltdown.
Naruto slid off the bed, kneeling down in front of you. He carefully tapped your shoulder - evoking you to raise your tearstained face, now showing off his gorgeous, most perfect smile.
“I love you too…so what’s the issue? Aren’t you tired of fighting it?” Naruto said as he stole a quick kiss from your cheek.
You giggled at the way Naruto always knew exactly what to say to you. He was your best friend. Your person. Your everything and you were tired of letting fear steal the things you cared for most.
“I just dont want the fact that we had sex to change anything between us…I couldn’t bare it if i lost you...” you said, now staring into Naruto’s alluring baby blues.
“Nothing needs to change. It happened and it was great but you’re still my person, regardless.” The blonde said, smiling - ready to pour his heart out.
Naruto took a deep breath. “Look, I’ve felt this way for a really long time and to see you entertain these assholes who don’t even take the time to get to know you inside and out… It hurts. I just want to be done with the games and listen to our hearts.”
You sat in front of the painfully handsome man listening to him spill his guts out to you as you stared off into the distance appearing completely dumbfounded. You couldn’t believe the things you were hearing. The things you’d fantasized about since childhood were manifesting right in front of your very eyes.
Naruto rubbed his neck, now feeling uncomfortable and a bit embarrassed at his sappy confession. “I guess what I’m trying to say is… No matter how many girls I’ve tried to date or get to know…it’s always been you, Y/N…”
Your heart swelled hearing these beautiful words leave his lips. You truly were grateful for Naruto.
“Thank you… for seeing me when no one else could. Thank you for pushing me to stop running…to stop letting my anxiety get the best of me.” your emotions were out of control that you felt tears welling up once more, but this time - happy tears. Relieved tears.
“Shh…Be my girlfriend?” Naruto inquired, with the goofiest grin plastered on his face.
You nodded your head, leaning in to kiss the Uzumaki once more. This kiss - filled with so much love, intent and desire. You were no longer afraid to let go. To love. You felt empowered and excited to see what this next chapter of life held for the both of you.
“Mama Kushina is going to be SO proud.” you giggled, placing one last kiss on Naruto’s lips.

Itachi Birthday Story ( Fem Reader X Itachi)
Here is a small story for Itachi's birthday. I hope you enjoy. Itachi and Sasuke deserved so much better..
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You were a Jonin ranked shinobi from Konoha and you were taking a break from the shinobi life. Or at least that is what you told everyone. You told them that you were taking some time off to go see family in other villages. Which wasn't totally a lie. Your father was from another village, and had family up in the north . You were leaving Konoha. As of late you had felt a heavy shift in Konoha, and you only stayed for one reason.
Itachi had asked you too. You were Itachi's eyes in the village, and would send him messages every so often. You wrote to Itachi telling him of what was happening with the village, and what Sasuke was doing in his current time with Team 7. Because of that Itachi knew Sasuke was on a team with Naruto, and Sakura Haruno. Itachi was also aware that Kakashi Hatake was Sasuke's sensei. But now you felt like your time in the village was over. You loved Konoha with all of your heart. You were born , and raised in this village. Even after the death of the Third Hokage your trust in your goverment had started to wane. The atmosphere in the village had become heavy. Itachi had asked you to stay up until Sasuke left to find his brother. And you had. After Lady Tsundae's coronation as Hokage , Sasuke had left the village. You didn't tell anyone where you were going. In fact you hadn't for the last two years. When not on missions you and Itachi met up at least once a month. Itachi would summon you, and you both met up. But after several discussions it was your choice to follow your heart. Of course Itachi tried to talk you out of it. But you were firm in your choice. It wasn't that Itachi didn't trust your skills. As long as Itachi knew you he knew you were a excellent shinobi. But Itachi had many enemies that could do serious harm to you. Even so you didn't falter.

It was June 9th when you left the village. You remembered it was also Itachi's birthday. Even when he didn't seem to care for his own birthday. You still remembered. When you left it was night with a dark inky sky filled with stars, and a half moon. You walked through the village only stopping to get a small present for Itachi. You quickly left before anyone noticed you, and you headed towards the path going towards the only entrances and exit to the village. You didn't look back as you passed through the gates leading out of Konoha you were met by a loud call of a crow. A crow sat in one of the trees outside the gate. Your large black bird escort flew off its perch, and into the sky leading you to where you would meet Itachi. Even now Itachi was cautious knowing the life you had chosen to be with him. The life of a rouge wasn't going to be easy. You knew many would call you a traitor to the village. Continuing through the dead of night the crow you were following stopped flying into a tree. You found Itachi standing on the edge of the cliff that over looked the village. You didn't need to say anything as you approched him. Once you both were standing side by side did Itachi finally say something. " Are you sure ? " Itachi asked something you had heard several times after you asked him to come with him. " Yes." You answer. You feel a arm pull you towards Itachi as you both continue to look down at the village. It could be the last time that you ever saw Konoha, but it was important that you left. You knew Itachi didn't have long in this world, and you knew that your time together would be short. But you still loved him, and wanted to be there with him until that day came. Seeing you were still serious you both stepped away from the over view of the village. But you don't go very far as you both find a place to sit down. Itachi had already traveled a good distance to come and get you. And it was a good time for you to give him your present. " You didn't have to get me anything.. I have what I need now." Itachi told you . " Then I might have to eat these without you. " you tease Itachi as you take out a package of dango you had picked up earlier. You giggled until you felt a tap on your head when you looke back at Itachi. Finally you both share Itachi's birthday treat. You both are smiling at one another and Itachi kisses you forehead. " Come . We have much to do. Once that is done we can celebrate. " Itachi tells you taking your hand leading you into the night leaving Konoha behind. You both travel until you come upon a small village and stop at the inn to rest for the night. It also gave you, and Itachi a chance to have a meal, and Itachi's birthday dangos you had gotten him in Konoha. In exchange Itachi also gave you a gift. Something that would symoblize to those around you that you were Itachi's now, and forever. It was dangerous for you to be wearing a Uchiha crest, but Itachi had gotten you a necklace with a gem that was half red, and half white. " Will you be mine forever ? " Itachi asked. " Yes.' You answer holding the necklace in your hands before he took it from you, and placed it around your neck. " I love you. " you said to Itachi " And I love you. I may not always show it but know I'll always love you ." Itachi answered you as you both fall into a kiss. You felt Itachi pick you up and carry you to the futon waiting for the both of you. " Ready ?" Itachi asked you. " Yes." you answered. " Itachi.. " " Hm ? " Itachi questions. " Thank you for being born today." you say as he kisses you again celebrating your union.
