Daisies (Steddie)

Summary: He hacked out a few more harsh sounding noises, before he spat into his open palm, taking a relieved breath as whatever was lodged in his throat came out. Eddie would’ve been relieved too, confused, but okay now that Steve was safe. And then he saw what was in Steve’s hand. A daisy. Steve had just coughed up a fucking daisy. And, judging by the completely blasé expression he had on his face as he looked down at it, this wasn’t the first time. When Steve wakes up choking on flowers, Eddie thinks that it might be the end. It turns out to be just the beginning.

I love Daisies so much and the response it got was wayyyy more than I ever could have expected!!! A hanahaki AU that it's a little non-traditional and one of my all time faves I've written!!!

2. Princess (Steddie, Steve and Chrissy)

Summary: “You knew Chrissy” Eddie managed to force out, feeling like he was about to vomit. Steve nodded, still looking at the picture. Chrissy’s little face was overtaken by an absolutely enormous grin, and her right hand was tightly grabbing onto Steve’s free left one.  “Who do you think gave her her title?” He asked rhetorically, side-eyeing Eddie to gauge his reaction. When Eddie didn’t give one, Steve sighed, stepping away, “People always get that story wrong though,” Eddie wakes up alone, goes downstairs, and finds out things he wasn't ready to know.

Princesssssssss. Augh this one hurts me every time I read it and it's one of my top favorite head canons. I think Steve and Chrissy being cousins hits a chord that is just so perfect? This little detail that doesn't actually exist to anyone but me is so canon to me now haha!

3. Let Me Just Hold You Now (Stolen)

Summary: Steve has a routine for nights like this. A routine for the times when his world gets flipped on its axis. Just four simple steps to keep his body alive while his mind tries to sort through whatever fucked up thing he just went through.  Steve has a Routine.  Robin breaks that Routine.

THIS FIC MAN. I really hit a stride with Stolen fics that just felt soooooo yeah I really loved writing this one and that's not something I can usually say!!

4. The Day After (Stoncy)

Summary: The morning after Steve helps to destroy a demon who had been trying to kill Jonathan Byers and Nancy Wheeler, he goes to school. He didn't want to go. He didn't know why he did it. He just went. It was startling to see how the rest of the world didn't change.

Agh! So I have a mixed relationship with this series but I had to include a stoncy fic in this list and this one was the one that really started it all. The first long fic I finished, the first one I felt really proud of, and the fic that really started my love for stranger things. Yeah I'm proud of this one.

5. How to Rehabilitate a Jock (Eventual Steddie WIP)

Summary: After their breakup, Steve found that being around Nancy and Jonathan was pretty much unbearable. His old friends wouldn't even look at him, and there was only so much time he could spend with the kids before he started feeling kind of pathetic. All in all, he was a pretty lonely person now. But was he really lonely enough to consider joining Hellfire club? And were they really willing to accept having a dethroned king in their party? A post season two AU where Steve becomes a part of hellfire club

This one is probably my baby and will be for at least the rest of the year. She gives me so much trouble but I love her so gosh darn much!!!!! Anyways it's my most popular story, it feels like a lot of pressure, but I love it.

I'm gonna go with something that's literally short (and ends sweetly 🥰) and has some of my favorite writing: Words

Lily Evans loves words.

Loves their meaning, their versatility. How they are rhythmic and made into ballads. How they burst out through laughter, can be waspish in a whisper, even low and gravely when breathless. They define and describe the real, the imagined, and every galaxy in between.

James Potter is a thousand words and she wonders how she could ever have thought one word would be enough to capture the essence of who he is.

17. A fic without any plot

Definitely have to go with Across the Universe which was written because I just wanted to write a tension-filled only one bed scenario 😂

This is slightly easy (slightly difficult) as I don't have many published works still, so here we go:

Hope Was A Fragile Little Thing

This was the first piece that I put out there, so naturally it has a special place in my heart. It's a short work following Jeff in the Oort Cloud. He reflects on life and love and loss.

International Rescue, We Have A Situation (Part of The Long Game fic)

This fic is currently on an unofficial hiatus because I got stuck on it (mainly because I didn't plot it properly but that's a whole other story), but the opening chapter is still one of my favourite pieces.

This is from Virgil's POV and is set in the aftermath of Jeff coming home. Tensions are rising in the Tracy household and Virgil, once again, is the one having to try and smooth things over.

Up From The Depths/Lost

I submitted this for Gumnut's FabFiveFeb challenge earlier this year, and somehow it ended up having two titles in my drafts.

This is a short drabble piece following Gordon and his struggle with survivor's guilt.

Aliens in Control? Who really leads International Rescue? (Part of the Tabloid Trash series)

This one has probably been the most fun I've had writing a piece of Thunderbirds fiction (that's been published anyway). It was spawned from wondering what kind of ridiculous headlines that tabloids would write when given the topic of The Tracys. The title, I think, is pretty self explanatory on which topic this particular article is about.

It features a 'journalist' who would be better suited to fiction, a conspiracy theorist who might be a reoccurring OC in this series, and a little cameo from Alan and Gordon at the end.

Haunted

Wayne Rigby's muse caught me one night when I couldn't sleep, so I decided to indulge it and this was the result. I do have some more ideas going forward for this, even wrote a little more after I posted this specific one, but I'm not sure if they'll pan out. We'll see.

But this is a very short piece where Rigby is being haunted by the events of his past. His anxieties are keeping him from much needed sleep and, lost in his thoughts in the dead of night, he's becoming lost in endless worries over things he cannot change.

I'm not sure who to tag so I'm tagging anyone who sees this, who wants to do it but who hasn't done it yet!

AKA 3+1 times Logan was completely oblivious, and the one time even he couldn’t miss the signs in front of him.

This one came about after I told Katar I was writing too much whump and wanted to write something nicer.  It’s a fun fic mainly about the relationship between the brothers.

2. Finding Yourself Along the Way (911 Lonestar, Marjan/Nancy)

Upon finding a friendship bracelet in her closet, Marjan comes to a conclusion about her sexuality.

Written for Day 5 of 911 Pride Week: Self-Love/Self-Discovery.

Finding out your sexuality can be a rewarding process, but it can also hurt when you look back and reflect on what you missed along the way.

Wobbly uncertain bubbles that even break apart in some parts from dizziness (The Blind Prince by cozycroww)

Pain almost appears to be breaking the usually round bubble into uneven and broken balloons. The little smaller balloons around it are reminiscent of sweat or tears (Heir’s Game by suspu)

Beginner's Guide to Your Fanfic Tag Game

Thank you @nerdieforpedro for the tag! I love self fic recs because I love seeing writers love on their skill! Im gonna do 5 as well. But you can choose how many you wanna do. And gonna challenge myself not to recc the same fics in the past 🤣

1. Through the Fire - Franklin Saint. It still has one of the best comments Ive ever gotten on my fics. I pulled from the show and it gave it more depth than I realized. I adore it 🥹

2. The God Who Stole Me - Loki. I feel I write Loki pretty well. And while I have a series with him, my one shots are so cute 🥹 this does have a degradation kink, but like all of my stories, it's always love at the core of it.

3. Break Me - Tyrone. I tried a new dynamic and I really love how it came out. It's the right amount of toxic and sweet and Tyrone being the one sprung or harboring feelings is something I deff thought was cute.

4. Have Mercy - Tyrone. This one was just pure nasty 🤣🤣🤣🤣 and purely for my own enjoyment. And if you're going to start anywhere with my writing, may as well start with one of the nastiest ones. To get my back blown out just like that? Whew 🥲 Yall would never see me again, Id never let that mf breathe without me 🤣🤣🤣

5. A Little Mad Sometimes - I had been feening for Ghostface smut and this was my first time writing a three-way. Yall dont understand the chokehold Scream has on me 🥲 or Matthew Lillard. I finally watched Five Nights at Freddys and may have to do a fic for him 😮‍💨

His Wounded Heart Beats For One [ Levi/F!Reader | 180k words | Completed ] Canon-verse Scout!Levi x Nurse!Reader. Ofc I love this one and I'm very very proud of it! I think it encapsulates my writing style very well (and proves i do write more than filthy smut sometimes lol)

The Ripper's Prey [ Erwin/Kenny | 13k words ] Whump, DDDNE. Graphic encounter between Erwin and Kenny in canon-verse. Horrible, evil, really dark. But a testament to my love for dark content and a piece I put a surprising amount of thought into.

Exsanguination [ Erwin/Levi | 3.5k words ] In which an obsessively devoted Levi is manipulated by a cruel, heartless Erwin. Another dark piece, but my personal favorite of what I wrote for Dark Eruri Week 2023.

No Surrender [ Erwin, Levi, Miche, Reader | 16.6k words ] The three hunters, your partners, chase down the lone prey, you. If I had to pick just one entry from RDOTES, I'd probably suggest this one. The first installment ever published, and still the best at demonstrating the relationship dynamic and personalities of the four main characters.

Here's a list of five of my (current, momentary) most highly-favored children, in no particular order:

entering light (Horizon, T) - an exploration of Aloy adjusting to new motherhood, and all of the fear and joy that comes with it. This one was in the works for a long time--like, years--and after everything I'm pretty pleased with how it came out.

show me the world as it could be (Horizon, Aloy/Talanah, E) - close-POV, pre-Nemesis smut with feelings. Another one that sat in my WIPs for quite a while, waiting for the right time to flourish. Pretty proud of this one mostly for my own perseverance.

rest like you belong here. (Horizon, Aloy/Talanah, T) - a missing scene from HZD in which hurt/comfort and gay subtext abound. This was my first Hawk and Thrush fic ever, and it still holds a super special place in my heart. It's fun to see how far I've come since then--and it was really rewarding to dive into Aloy's head right as she's on the precipice of allowing her own vulnerabilities to be seen and addressed.

dream geometries (Control, Jesse/Emily, T) - my first fic for these two, and hopefully not the last! A quick and intimidating dip into the liminality and weirdness that makes this franchise so cool. I was pretty pleased with how this brief piece turned out!

gray areas and expectations (Horizon, Aloy/Talanah, M) - an exploration of intimate vulnerability and Aloy's character via endearingly awkward sexual content. Started as a joke post on discord, sparked itself into a concept I come back to time and time again.

This is a hard one for me because pretty much everything I write is canon divergent (and previously Muggle AUs) where we say fuck the canon tragedy of Jily's death. But I guess the closest fic that comes to mind is in retrograde, in which the Potter family survives the first war, but Lily suddenly loses all of her memories after fifth year. As you can imagine, that's just oodles of fun for her husband 🙃

It’s quiet.

My conclusions: ...honestly, I'm not sure there is any clear pattern? Some use dialogue, some immediately set a scene or context, some are incredibly vague without revealing much, POV is very clear in about half of them, entirely unknown in the rest. I will say that several of them require the second sentence to contextualise them before they hit properly as a line, so that's perhaps the clearest pattern here — you can't stop after just the first sentence.
