The world's most lesbian autistic accountant decides the only way to destroy the eugenicist colonizers that took over her homeland and killed one of her fathers is to gain power within the system and bring it down by its own methods. It's very hard fantasy, with only ambiguous fantastical elements, more focused on social and economic elements of a fictional trade empire. It's got some of the greatest world and character building I've ever read, and having read the third book finally I can safely say that while it's dark and pulls no punches, it isn't relentlessly hopeless or painful. If you liked the locked tomb series you might like the plot structure, although they are very different tone wise

Also it contains some really great exploration of queerness both within cultures that normalize it, within cultures that forbid it, and within cultures that have their own gender and sexuality rules that are restrictive in their own way, not just cis-het supremacy. genuinely cannot wrap my head around ofmd superfans raising over twenty thousand us dollars to put up BILLBOARDS in an attempt to save a tv show. fucking billboards. advertisements. $20k raised for a literal tv show in the midst of a genocide. no tv show on this planet is worth throwing thousands away on advertisements attempting to reverse a cancellation while a genocide is enacted. do you know how much you could do with $20k? besides, the debate on whether or not the show deserved to be cancelled does not matter one bit at this point. it is pointless. it is incredibly obvious where the ethics of these fans lie, especially the wealthy ones willing to fund an entire times square billboard. i just cant fucking understand it.

i need ghoap frantically making out against a door finally taking the leap on their feelings. need ghost grinding against soap, expecting to find him just as hard as him, only to feel nothing

and in all his wisdom and experience, he concludes soap was tortured and never told him

This morning sucked. Woke up at 7 on less than 5 hours of sleep to bake over 50 Eccles cakes. Didn’t have like half my ingredients. Bought more only to realise I still didn’t have them all. Burnt myself on the syrupy filling. Printer died on me as I was trying to get a printing job done. Forgot to have lunch I was so excited. Locked my car key in the boot. Waited an hour in the sun in all black to make sure I didn’t get a parking ticket whilst trying to get said key out. Got stuck in traffic for half an hour only to find I’d just moved under 100 metres. Accidentally had the thermostat cranked up to 40C the whole journey. All of this, just to get to a screening.

Then when I got there….

Shrimp emotions. The atmosphere was incredible. Got there 3 hours early. Immediately bonded with people, and it just felt so warm and exciting. I passed round the Eccles cakes in its little (very large) Antichrist basket. We all counted down with the timer waiting for the episodes to start. The episodes were amazing, and I have to thank @neil-gaiman for making this season come true - it was everything I hoped for and more, and I think that’ll be the case for pretty much everyone. I wouldn’t trade this experience for the world, even if I had to live through this morning 20x over.

Trust me when I say you’re not prepared for season 2. No one is.

One of the earliest examples of Leo’s “I’ll do my own thing to accomplish our goal without discussing it with my team first” is in episode one. It’s super, super quick, and ultimately inconsequential, but it subtly sets up a great precedent that I think is very interesting.

When the boys need to grab the medallion from Splinter without Splinter noticing, Raph, Mikey, and Donnie huddle together with Raph taking the lead in trying to devise a plan to get the mystic device. Meanwhile, Leo slinks away and grabs the device by clocking the situation (by knowing his father well enough to predict his actions - something he does with each family member multiple times in the series) and making a move on his own.

It works out perfectly fine, and is ultimately the best move, and it’s honestly okay that he didn’t consult everyone for something so small when it’s such a non issue to get it, but it nicely sets up how this tends to go in the series, including how it goes in the movie.

To be honest episode one is actually really good at setting up a lot of things for each character in the long run, this is just one example that caught my attention, as small and unassuming as it is.
