The firelight flickered over Sessomaru's impassive mask, casting half his face in shadow, save for those sharp golden eyes which reflected and shimmered in the light. He was lounging, with his back to a tree trunk and one knee drawn up, his arm rested over. His thoughts swirled through the muck and mire of the past, circling over and over around his clashes with that wretched brother of his, Inuyasha. Even his name was an insult; a declaration of acceptance and falsehood from the honorable father they unfortunately shared.

How had that bastard, born of treachery and betrayal, have bested him, not once, nor twice, but thrice?! And what could have possessed his dear father to bestow upon the whelp his most powerful weapon? Was it true that his own father could have possibly discarded his eldest son? Did he truly detest him to such an extent? Or… was it possible there was a benign reasoning behind his father's insane actions..?

Perhaps, Inuyasha needed it more… Perhaps, it was not an action borne of malice, but… He looked up, regarding the human girl he'd come to cherish so, and had to wonder… Was there wisdom in this? Had his father known all along something which remained enshrouded to Sessomaru's piercing gaze..? He ran his fingers idly over his long fluffy tail, draped elegantly over one shoulder, watching as his vassals bickered by the fire.

Something in his heart had already begun to shift, long before this moment. When he first looked upon this lowly human girl, and found her smile… uplifting; genuine in a way he'd never known before. It spread warmth through otherwise chilly veins, and caused his heart to tremble; for to love meant to accept the possibility of loss, and with the death of his beloved father a mere sixty-odd years past, he had yet to find it within himself to take such a risk. That is, until Rin.

With this shift, he now felt compelled to examine other aspects of his life. This obsessive hatred for Inuyasha for one, no longer held the same visceral heat as it once had. He wondered now, if he ever truly hated him to begin with, or if this malice and rage might not have been… misplaced. A soft hum escapes from his lips, the only outward sign of his introspection.

Sesshomaru flung the door to his apartment open with a loud bang, as if announcing his arrival. Ignoring the genkan, he stepped into the apartment engulfed in darkness. He failed to notice the faint chill in the air or the eerie silence that filled the space. Without hesitation, he moved as if he was floating, the office, oblivious to the shadows that appeared to pulse and devour the walls.

But as he approached his office, he snapped out of his trance and slowed his pace. He took a deep breath and tried to absorb his surroundings, only to find them blending into the shadows. His footsteps echoing as he quickened his pace. Was he running from something—or to it? He was no longer sure. It was inconsequential. Tonight, the room took on a more worthy purpose. It was to become the starting point for his quest for knowledge and a remedy for the persistent nagging clouding his mind.

As he turned into the office, darkness greeted him like an old enemy. His body tensed and readied itself to attack an intruder. Yet one never appeared. The anxiety was getting the best of him. Putting on his mask of indifference, Sessomaru held onto the one thought that had haunted him…

So I never finished Inuyasha as a kid because when it aired, so I'm rewatching/trying to finish it as an adult, while knowing there's a sequel because of course there is. And like, I know Kagome is going to stay in the past but, wouldn't logically that create some sort of paradox? Because she's Kikyo's descendant?

(Also I'm not really happy about how Yasha-Hime (the sequeal series) focuses on Sessomaru's daughter. Not because it's his daughter, but because she's his daughter he had with Rin, the girl he knew since she was a child which gives me all sorts of ick vibes)

Oh god, she stays in the past and it just breaks time completely. That would have been funny.

Also, the only salvaging factor in Sesshomaru conceiving a kid with Rin is that he was such a terrible, inattentive, hands off guardian that it takes away a little of the "adopted dad" factor. He'd protect her if something tried to kill her, but he barely acknowledged her and didn't even feed her. I love Sesshomaru, he's the fucking worst.

My absolute favorite is reader wanting something and not getting it. Usually with "they really really REALLY think they'll get it" sprinkled in the mix. Or maybe even getting it and then having it taken away at the last minute. Or otherwise reader wanting something and it going wrong in some way, maybe it doesn't feel as good as they thought it would, etc etc.

It's the emotional damage & drop that I adore there, really.

I also like fucked up mindsets, like reader just... indulging in their captive's obsession because what else can they do, pretending it's not horrifying while knowing it is, etc.

Ok so there are three fics that live in my head rent free and I can’t find them anywhere (I didn’t have accounts back then, and I never finished them.) if anyone can help me find even one of these I’d be so grateful!

1. It was on quotv and it was a yanderes x reader fic where reader was from some island (or something) where yanderes were the norm and she had to his her emotions and try to blend in so that she didn’t attract a yandere for her whole life (her mom was taken by a yandere when she was a kid). She was saving up money so that she could leave that place behind but then suddenly she started gaining the attention of different yanderes and she had to navigate around them.

2. It was a Michael Afton x child reader, where reader had an @busive dad and he kicked her out (she was a little kid) and Michael found her almost frozen on a park bench and adopted her. Reader also had this power where if she died she respawned back to the last place she slept. (It was a really sweet fic and I miss it even though the last time I saw it the author hadn’t updated in months)

3. It was an Inuyasha x Kagome fic set in the modern world (high school au I think) where Inuyasha and Kagome used to be bffs but Kikiyo and Inuyasha started dating and he and Kagome fought and they stopped talking to each other. And eventually it becomes an “best friends, to enemies, to friends that flirt while fighting but refuse to acknowledge that they like each other, to lovers”. And Sessomaru is a ceo of a company and he takes care of Inuyasha after their dad died. I can’t remember what platform this was on as I haven’t read it since 2016-2017 but I loved this fic, but my laptop broke and I couldn’t remember the name of the fic.
