team bolas rojas gas masks designs??

in THIS day and age?????

it may be more likely than you think..

this was my first time drawing a series of different gas masks, no idea if they’re accurate at all, but it was really fun!!

**notes & closeups under the cut :-D**

it’s a lot of notes so be prepared for an info dump.

NOTES:

Philza: honestly, what more is there to say than “CROW MAN!!”? aside from his goggles being glow-in-the-dark, theres not much more to the mask design. however, i decided, “hey! this is purgatory! i can fuck up these characters!” so, he has a ripped ear(?)wing and messily cut back hair. (i didn’t pay too much attention to the hair in this design, i was mainly trying to get the gas masks down, but maybe i’ll go further into later.)

Cellbit: this is definitely one of my favorites, he looks pretty scary, i would NOT stop my car if i saw him on the side of the road. its based off of a cat mask(obviously) and a painted white streak goes through his mask, inspired by his hair. i didn’t include it, but circles in the goggles are supposed to retract with different emotions (kind of how cat’s eyes do, saucer and dagger pupils.) he’s also covered in blood because he’s going through it lore wise.

Slimecicle: ngl, it was my first time drawing code charlie(other than all the wips i have that i’ll never finish),but i think he’s pretty spooky. his mask is the worst quality, like it USED to work well until he wore it out. thus, there are broken air tubes that let the gas in. (he should probably get those replaced.) the holes for his horns are kind of like an airlock, so the gas can’t enter through them (phil helped him make it.) however, it makes it difficult to take off.

Baghera: baghera’s mask is kind of built like charlie’s, except in much better quality. aside from the loose air tubes, the mask almost goes all the way around her head, not letting even the slightest bit of gas in. theres also a plastic duck beak on top of the regular breathy-thing(i have no idea what i’m doing, so, no, i don’t know the technical term for that) to give it the “bird touch.”

Jaiden: jaiden’s mask was FUN. like i kinda went overboard. i did these all on different days, and this was the night after the big egg battle day. i saw she had fnaf bonnie ears along with her bird gas mask, and said “ok cool. i’ll add that.” she has the same feather/beak thing i gave to baghera. also, hair-wise, she gets a hair bun and her brown roots showing through(we love messy haired cubitos ^^)

Foolish: foolish was interesting, not sure i like the final product, but i’m tired, so it’ll do. his mask is based off of a lemon shark. he gas glowing green eyes and golden splotches on the leather. the air tube foolish has is REALLY long. like unnaturally long. so he wraps it around his neck to get it out of the way. the other members are extremely concerned it’ll choke him one day, but foolish thinks it’s cool and will scare other teams away. kind of like a “yea, i’m crazy, i could choke and die at any minute, and i don’t care.” phil, being the protective father figure of the group, does not like this at all.

Carre: and finally, we have carre. ah, sweet, sweet carre.(he is my favorite.) his mask is based off of a snow leopard because i hc he’s half feline. carre has the lightest, and most simple mask, since it’s entirely plastic, and more so based off of skiing or snowboarding goggles.

ANYWAY, i hope these notes make sense, excuse my rambling about silly designs, i tend to doodle messily, and not really have a plan when i draw, lol.

Genuinely I would give anything to hear your thoughts or read more critical analysis of yours on other webcomics writing (*slides you Marionetta* I like the webtoon but there are some things in the writing that I'd like to see be discussed critically more often but the fandom focuses way too much on shipping. sighs..)

Anyway, you probably have been asked this before but are there any webtoons in particular you would recommend? :D

Oh lord, you don't know how many times a week I get asks in my inbox asking for my opinions on webtoons they're reading. It's really sweet that people wanna hear me talk about other works outside of LO, but unfortunately I just don't have the time to read as much as I used to, even keeping up on LO lately is getting really difficult 😅 I'm definitely keeping a list though of works to check out!

That said, I try not to read series on the basis of criticizing them because frankly I just... don't want to spend time reading something if people are only looking for me to rag on it? 😆 Of course I know that's not the only reason, I know there's also just the element of seeing me talk extensively about other works the way that I do with LO, but it's not really something I can turn on and off like that, I have to get really into a series to want to talk about it to that extent. So it often comes down to just luck of the draw :'0

Right now the series I'm keeping up the most on (or have completed and would absolutely 100% re-read):

Alfie (18+, it's porn with plot but the plot is REALLY GOOD , I SWEAR LMAO the art is gorgeous, the characterization is IMMACULATE, and it ironically tackles the subject of purity culture way better than LO ever has lol)

Theia Mania (the creator is often in my comment section / neck of the woods, she's been working on an Abduction of Persephone retelling for a long while now and has also tackled other myth retellings in her style! I always love seeing new pages of her work in my feed :' ) <3)

Tales from Alderwood (if you like fantasy and comedy, this one's great, the plot's really starting to get interesting and it's just got this really great sense of humor about it)

The Black Parade (this one's REALLY interesting, it's a comic-stylized version of My Chemical Romance's The Black Parade, using the songs as narration and sometimes even dialogue to tell a visual story, it's really cool and the art matches beautifully with the lyrics and style of MCR!)

A Tale of Two Rulers (this is a Legend of Zelda fancomic that poses the question, "What if Zelda and Ganondorf got married to solve their political crisis?" It updates a lot slower than most of the other comics I follow but the art and writing is so worth it <3)

Dogs of Future Past (and p much all of Lynx's Undertale comics which can be found in the link, seriously, THESE are the comics you wanna read if you wanna get into Undertale fanworks, they are PEAK)

Tamberlane (this one's an anthro comic, I normally don't read anthro but this one actually gripped me by the throat, the art is gorgeous and the character arcs so far have been great!)

The Mafia Nanny (okay it's legit so funny that I'm including this one here but I've been reading it the last couple days after seeing it basically beat out LO at the top of the trending tab for a couple days, so I figured I'd give it a shot, at first I was like "great more tropey shit" but the more I read it the more it's actually started to get pretty good, I'm holding out and hoping to god it stays that way LOL it's not especially deep or anything like that, but it's really fun and cute to read and the shipping of the main character within the narrative isn't too self-absorbed which I can always appreciate, I'd honestly be 100% fine with it if it didn't turn into a romance)

City of Blank (I talk about this one a lot here, but it's one of my favorite Originals right now, the art is super polished and the writing has gotten INTENSE, go check it out if you want some fun action / sci-fi storytelling!)

Time and Time Again (a time-travelling vampire and his werewolf boyfriend get into all kinds of misadventures, what more could you ask for?)

Touch of Divinity (like the Mafia Nanny, this is one I just started reading, it's got a very interesting premise so far and I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes!)

Is it possible to write a fic about gwen from in fabric again? Reader shares a class with gwen and ends up sketching them a lot. Gwen has no idea why this person in their class keeps staring at them, till she finds a sketch that the reader accidentally forgot to place in their bag. Gwen figures it out and starts wearing more eyecatching outfits and sits wherever reader’s line of sight is. Reader is flustered yet inspired so more sketches and less listening to class. Then one day they get partnered for a project and gwen just mentions if they at least had an idea what the project is about since they were too busy making drawings of them? Sorry if it’s super specific, it’s all good if you change some details and make it more smutty or fluffy lol

Here it is!! This was a fun one, I’m glad it was so specific as it made it easier for me to get back into the swing of writing. I haven’t totally gotten back into the mindset of being home yet, so I hope this will suffice 😅 thanks to @deadtooth-taylor and @zephyr-is-tired for beta-ing, and thanks for the prompt, anon!!

You were always an A student. Perfect GPA, loved by all of your teachers, and you were always seen as an overachiever. So when this beautiful stranger showed up to the first day of class, you were so caught off guard that you knew you would fail.

Her jet-black hair was what caught your attention first. Second was her height. She walked into the classroom ahead of you, and when she turned to take her seat, you had to keep from stopping in your tracks as your peers entered behind you. She was too preoccupied with readying her course materials to notice you, and for that, you were grateful. You clutched your notebook and pen a little closer to your chest as you walked past her, taking a seat in the row beside her and a couple of desks behind. A few minutes later, everyone else found their seats, and the professor shut the door to begin the class. You pulled out your syllabus, but had a difficult time following along as he read it aloud. You were too taken by the girl in the front row to care. The way she nonchalantly leaned on her elbow on the small desk only made her more attractive. You licked your lips as your eyes swept over her a final time, and opened to a blank page in your notebook. New pen in hand, you began to sketch.

Your only passion aside from your schoolwork was art, but you knew it was far from a promising career path, so you hung onto it as a hobby. That passion shone through as you drew the stunning woman before you, even if you couldn’t see her every detail from your chosen seat. Before you knew it, the professor was wrapping up the period, and your fellow students were standing from their desks and collecting their things. You snapped your “notes” shut and moved to stand. At that very moment, the girl in the front row glanced your way, and your breath froze in your lungs. Your eyes met hers and a smirk appeared on her lips before she looked away, tossing her bag onto her arm. You nearly fell back into your seat as she walked away, peeking over her shoulder a final time before she made her way out of the building.

You scrambled to pull yourself together, her blue eyes the only thing on your mind. If she was going to be taking this class with you, you’d be totally screwed.

Two weeks passed, and they were filled with stolen glances and brief encounters. Once on your way into the classroom, you nearly ran into her in your rush to get to your seat. You hurriedly apologized, but she didn’t say anything in response. Just shot you a cheeky grin before allowing you to enter the room before her. You could feel her eyes on you the whole way to your desk, but you dared not look up once you were seated. Her gaze both intimidated you and gave you the most ferocious of butterflies you had ever felt. You smiled to yourself upon remembering the way she looked at you, and freed your usual spiral-bound notebook from your bag before shaking away the memory. At this point you considered picking up a separate one for actual class notes, as this one was now a quarter of the way filled with doodles of the girl whose name you had yet to learn.

As your professor introduced the topic to be covered, you swore you heard him mention the word “project.” At that, your pen stilled, and you looked up to see him writing pairs of names on the whiteboard alongside a list of topics to choose from. Beside your own name in red dry erase marker was “Gwen,” and you said a silent prayer that it wasn’t the one person you had had your eye on for the majority of your time in class. As if she could read your mind, the girl turned around and raised her eyebrows at you, suggesting your suspicions were correct. You only blushed in reply.

Capping his pen, the professor turned to address the room, assigning all the pairs to partner up. You had a moment of panic before rising from your seat to take the now empty one beside Gwen, and pretended to busy yourself with arranging your things to avoid looking at her. You felt like a bug under a microscope at the way she studied you, and you could quickly feel your blush creeping up higher on your neck.

As soon as you were settled, she reached her hand out, and your eyes followed up the extension of her arm to meet her own, their bright blue tones just as piercing as you remembered. Your mouth ran dry, and she looked at you expectantly. After a beat of silence, she took it upon herself to make the first introduction.

“Gwen.” Was all she said, and her voice startled you back into the moment. It was deep yet gentle, only giving you more fuel for your crush on the woman. You shook her outstretched hand and told her your name in return, now slightly embarrassed at your hesitance. She eyed you up and down before flipping to a new page in her notes, allowing you to fully take her in without the fear of her judging your gaze. You weren’t quick enough to look away though, and she caught you staring as she looked up again. Her signature smirk overtook her features again, much like on the day you first saw her, and you were sure your cheeks were a deep shade of red by now.

“See something you like, y/n?” she teased, and you fought to keep your breathing under control. You were grateful the classroom was filled with chatter from your classmates, otherwise you would’ve been infinitely more embarrassed at her words, had anyone overheard.

“No- er, sorry…” you rushed to apologize, opening your own notebook to a fresh page. You were careful to turn past all the sketches you had of her; what would she think if she knew you spent nearly every class period drawing her?

“So, which topic are we choosing?” she asked, turning her gaze to the board to run down the list. Shit. You hadn’t been paying attention at all. You cursed internally at the way you had allowed yourself to become so distracted with the woman in front of you.

“Maybe… number 4?” You hoped you could BS your way through this and at least make it seem like you’d been paying a bit of attention. She turned back at your suggestion, uncapping her pen in preparation to discuss it with you.

You kept conversation with her surprisingly well, considering how intense her aura was. You could hardly meet her eyes as the two of you spoke, but having some background in the subject definitely aided in the conversation.

As the period came to a close, you found yourself disappointed as opposed to your usual relief to leave her presence. You shut your notes and the other students began filing out of the room, tossing your things quickly into your bag. You missed one thing, however; a page had torn free from your notepad, and drifted to the floor at Gwen’s feet. It was a drawing of her you had been working on for awhile, coming back to it when you were fed up with your smaller scribbles. She wordlessly scooped it up, noticing you were still preoccupied with gathering your belongings, and placed it in her own bag. She stopped in front of your desk before leaving, a knowing look in her eye as her fingers drummed on the wood.

“See you later, y/n.” she said, your eyes meeting hers once more. With a polite smile, you nodded eagerly as she turned to leave, finally releasing the breath you had been holding. You were definitely studying the textbook when you got back to your dorm.

You were already seated at your new place in the front row as the professor greeted the class, but Gwen had yet to show up. Lo and behold, in she walked just as he was taking attendance, fashionably late. Which was an understatement. Today, she wore a short black dress that hugged every curve, with a fluffy black sweater and heels to match. What really caught your attention though, was the thin black choker around her neck. The way it flexed around the muscles there was dizzying as she fought to catch her breath from hurrying into the classroom. She took her seat beside you and shot you a sweet smile before prepping her things for the lesson. You couldn’t resist the urge to look over at her, her choice of clothing suggesting she probably had somewhere to be after this.

After briefly addressing the class, the professor dismissed you to pair off and discuss your chosen topics for the remainder of class. You were now more nervous than ever to face Gwen, donning her full makeup and more revealing outfit that made your heart race. You shifted in your seat to turn in her direction, eyes glued to the floor. She noticed your hesitance to look her way, and craned her neck down to bring your eyeline back to hers with a playful smile.

“Is everything alright?” she asked, despite knowing exactly what she was doing. You offered her a shy smile and met her gaze at last, her flawless winged eyeliner accentuating her hypnotizing eyes. You couldn’t think of anything to say, so you just nodded with a hum.

“By the way… I think you dropped this last class,” she said as she handed you a folded piece of paper between her index and middle fingers. You didn’t need to open it to know what it was. You could see your pen marks through the thin sheet. You felt your cheeks tinge pink, which had become a habit when you were around Gwen, and grabbed it from her. You noticed the bleed of a marker’s ink in the corner, but didn’t dare unfold it should anyone be looking over your shoulder. You slipped it into the cover of your notebook and shut it again, muttering a quick “thanks” under your breath.

Gwen was watching you intently with her chin resting in her palm, that damned smirk plastered on her face. She waited a moment before she spoke up again, realizing you may need a second to recover from her discovery of your little hobby. She allowed her eyes to rove over you, and you caught her just as they reached your face.

“You know, you could’ve just asked me to model for you. I would quite enjoy playing a role in your creative process.” For a moment you thought she was joking, and you scowled at her teasing. She raised an eyebrow and you quickly realized she was serious, your eyes growing wide for a moment.

“…Really? I mean, if you wouldn’t mind… And since you suggested it-“ You stumbled over your words, hoping you didn’t sound too pathetic. To your pleasant surprise, though, she perked up, a huge smile on her face.

“Perfect! You can come ‘round to mine at 8,” she said excitedly as the class began to wrap up. The time had flown by, and you didn’t even have a chance to work on your project together at all thanks to your distracted discussion. You realized you didn’t have any of her information before she strutted confidently out of the room. You raised your notebook from the desk and the folded sheet hit your palm before you could put it into your bag. Letting it fall into your hand, you opened it up to reveal what the marks were that you had spotted earlier - Gwen’s dorm and phone number. You felt a swell of pride in your chest when you gave your drawing another once-over. Clearly she knew skill when she saw it.

Around 7:45, you changed into something more suited to the occasion (your favorite paint-streaked overalls and a white t-shirt) and made your way to the hall that held Gwen’s unit. You found her door easily, but hesitated before knocking. Drawing supplies at your side, you took a breath and raised your fist to knock twice. A moment later, she eased the door open and smiled in greeting, still wearing her stunning outfit from earlier in the day. She stepped aside and let you in, and you immediately took notice of dim light in the room and soft music playing, making the space seem suggestive of another purpose entirely. You shook the thought away and stood awkwardly in the middle of the single dorm, too shy to take a seat without being offered one.

As if she were able to read your mind, Gwen pulled the chair out from beneath her large study desk, now cleared off to make space for your creative needs. But she left a few feet of space between the seat and desk. Leaning on a hand on the back of the chair, she crooked her fingers to beckon you over to sit. You gulped an obliged, your gaze lingering a bit too long on her dexterous fingers. You snapped out of your daze and made your way over, lowering yourself beside her with your things on your lap. She stepped away and reclined on the edge of the desk facing you, her eyes locked on yours. You swore you saw a spark of something mischievous in them in the low light, but you couldn’t be sure.

“Well? Pose me,” she said, raising an arm in the air dramatically to illustrate her point. You smiled at her display and thought for a moment. You suddenly felt in your element, your reason for visiting Gwen’s coming back to you. Pencil tapping your chin, an idea came to you.

“Sit on the desk, your back to the wall on your left.” Your voice took on a commanding tone you almost didn’t recognize, and you were willing to bet it equally surprised Gwen. As soon as she was in the position you asked for, you tilted your head in thought as more ideas came to you. You stood from your place and stepped over to her. Placing your fingers under the back of her knee, you mumbled the suggestion to bend it and cross her legs at the ankle. You were too focused on your vision to realize that the movement had caused her dress to ride up higher on her thighs, revealing the lace of her stockings beneath. Gwen, meanwhile, was still in shock at your sudden boldness; she liked this side of you. It was interesting to see you delve so deeply into your passions that you nearly lost yourself in them.

You brought your hands to her arms, raising one of her hands to her jaw and the other in the air at an angle in front of her. You failed to realize until it was too late how close you had gotten to her; your hips pressing into her thigh closest to you, fingertips grazing her forearms as you caught her eye at last. You stilled in your movements, glancing at her lips then to her eyes with a small smile.

“Perfect,” you whispered before stepping back to your seat, praying Gwen couldn’t see the blush that had risen to your cheeks at the close proximity. You opened up a new page in your new sketchbook and crossed your legs to alleviate the tension building between them, placing the book atop them. You sketched out her outline, and the shapes that stood out the most before starting on the smaller details. You were impressed at how perfectly still your model stayed, the position she was in wasn’t a strenuous one but it took you at least 10 minutes to get things to look the way you wanted. As you began shading, you caught her staring at you with a sly side eye and a smirk before averting her gaze forward again.

“Something funny?” you asked, her expression throwing you out of your groove a bit. She shook her head dismissively, her smile growing. “What?”

Gwen turned her head toward you and tapped her cheek with her fingers, “You have some graphite…”

Slightly embarrassed, you wipe at the spot she gestured toward with your fingers, only making it worse unbeknownst to you. Gwen giggled and raised from her place on the desk, bending forward to rest one hand on your thigh while the other’s fingertips brushed over the smudge. A soft gasp left your throat at the contact, taken aback by her touch. Your eyes flicked between hers and her lips, her thumb stroking your thigh causing a particular heat to rise in your abdomen. You licked your lips and leaned into her hesitantly, waiting for her to close the gap between you. When she connected your lips at last, a soft whimper left you. Her hands grasped the straps of your overalls and she pulled you up against her, sending your art supplies tumbling to the floor.

All at once she flipped your positions, pushing you against the edge of the desk and pinning you there with her hips. Your hands reached for them eagerly, and Gwen swallowed your low groan as they rolled into yours. Before pulling away, her teeth grazed your bottom lip, your heavy breaths falling into sync with each other. She rested her forehead on yours and closed her eyes to gather herself for a moment, her following words causing you a puzzled expression.

“I’m so glad I asked to partner up with you…” You pulled away a few inches and Gwen giggled at your reaction before continuing, “I thought you were adorable, so I asked the professor to pair us up.”

You shook your head in playful disbelief before connecting your lips once again. This time, the kiss was a softer one, and you felt each other smile into it. Not only did you look forward to completing your class project together, as well as having her play the role of your muse, but you had a feeling you would be seeing much more of Gwen long after their completion.

General Simon brainrot sketch page :3, as per usual, explanations under a cut. Apologies if my posts tend to be kinda huge and difficult to scroll past, I try to do the cuts to make sure they do the least inconvenience to anyone! (>-< ;)

Just the whole page in full ft. My thumb lol

Expression practice! Simon is feeling the weight of his situation rn alas :(. I’ve always imagined him being panicked the whole game; the overarching entire game timer really gives a pretty good feeling of dread imo. The two doodles at the bottom were attempts at multiple ideas I’ve seen floating around about the curse, but they’re kinda bad in execution looking at them no tbh. But the first one is based on the idea that the curse gives some vampire traits like sharp teeth and would probably lead to proper vampirism if he were to die from it. The second was general attempt at like skull practice and comparing facial features to skull structure, but oh my god the page kept smudging and I tried making it look ok with some random blood on there but it just made it look even sillier 💀.

These next two are based on two random like liminal space images I ran into on Pinterest and I drew them mostly because I suck at backgrounds and idk Simon’s Quest itself is like Castlevania: Liminal Space Edition a lot of the time, so it fits X,,,,D. The first one I really liked the composition of the path on the far side contrasted to the trees. Imagine the water is the purple cursed swamp :3. Hopefully Simon has laurels just standin around in there.

This second liminal space for Simon to be in was this neat nighttime photo of a graveyard! Trees are HARD TO DRAW, especially just in pencil and a solid black background. There’s blood on the ground and stuff cause he was just fighting some monsters, probably those two headed lizard guys. It’s the awkward stillness after clearing out an area of enemies.

The pose for this one is based on the LOL~lots of laugh Miku figure lmao 💀💀💀

Simon is very fun to put in exaggerated poses! Especially cause you have to exaggerate them more to get the same ratio of pose to negative space because muscles and armor. I had no idea how to make metal belt armor thingies sit in a like legs up floating sort of pose like this so they kinda bend a little weird but eh he looks cute otherwise. The other doodles present are one that says “brainrot” which is kinda making fun of my own dedication to an NES character 💀 and also cause haha rot like the curse. Also, teeny tiny Simon with a heart!!! :3

Yippie! Simon posing again! I think the first pose was inspired by this like random old anime style angel figure??? Idk I think she was just an original character figure and the pose was pretty different, I just used the reference mostly for the arm position. Anyway, he’s vibin, just sitting curled up and momentarily comfy. Alas, the horrors persist in the second doodle that was an attempt at showing how the curse kinda deteriorates him but he just kinda ended up having a scarily snatched waist and it looks more stylized than like sick. Also the armor kinda bends around him in a way that makes it look like it shrunk with him which is so dumb lmaooooo (XwX). I’ll have to revisit the concept eventually idk, just look at his face for this one XD. Hahaha tiny doodle based on Larval Rin on the left there, nothing to see here—

The main doodle is just Simon looking into the distance bewildered and holding the whip, standard stuff. There’s also a side profile doodle and an attempt at drawing crying again cause I was getting kinda rusty at both of those things.

Simon Belmont but if he was 2000s anime lol. A fun little style experiment, I might keep this as like another secondary art style. There’s also some doodles of a hanged man skeleton, the eyes of Vlad, a skeleton hand, and a couple little chibi Simon’s of various expressions.

More 2000s anime Simon, but in a more silly way like the art style change for joke sections. One is him just goofily holding up Dracula’s head, but it’s contrasted immediately with a more gritty usual art style doodle of him with harsh shading lol. Get you a man who can do both I guess 💀

I gotta practice more on backgrounds and composition and stuff, probably also get some curse effects consistent augh. Lately I’ve been on and off working on random things or just staring into space tired, getting back to using social media is hard and an exhausting uphill battle unfortunately (_ _ ;). Sometimes I feel like I should probably split these up into multiple posts to make things more visible and to put more focus on specific drawings, but idk I don’t really want to, it just feels weird to me breaking up a doodle page like that, if that makes sense??? Eh idk.

i find it extremely funny that we (mxtx fandoms in general but mdzs especially) will get into huge shouting matches about timelines and research and accuracy and meanwhile she was like "the death of the nie bros' dad, an event extremely important to explaining the buildup to the war that affected literally every single member of the cast, could have happened anywhere in these five whole-ass years" and "yeah they totally had potatoes don't worry about it lol". truly airplane was an autobiographical character.

You know nonny, I DO find this intensely funny at times. My uh, main source of "shaking my head at this" happens when inevitably, meta goes around and we rush back and forth going "X WAS A GOOD PERSON" and "X WAS EVIL! EVIL!" etc, which happens every now and again and always makes me a bit like "ah, yes, it's difficult to convey nuance and also differing points of view that may in whole or in part also be legitimate and valuable to discuss on a place like tumblr/the internet in general because it is difficult to grapple with uncertainties and we often want to nail things down one way or another so we can figure out if we're right or not" <- but this often comes out as me writing a joke post. Or a saltier post than I intended. Sometimes because I'm tired and sometimes because I just happen to be a salty individual on main.

And I do think fandom is a place where like, multiple interpretations of an event or a statement or a character's "morality" and themes and choices are often equally valid. And fandom should be a place for that, that's what makes fandom fun. If there was a One True Interpretation of the text there'd be no need for interpreting text at all, and that's distinctly sad for me. That's no fun. Anyone who tries to use their knowledge to cudgel people into the One True Interpretation is wrong, btw.

Though I think, and here's where I feel that research and accuracy is a nuanced thing and should actually be of consideration for meta/fic/engaging with fandom in general, and why perhaps people strive for it -- the "lol, potatoes" and "poetry from whatever era I want" is fun! MXTX, however, is still writing about a fantasy version of her own culture, which offers along with it a foundational basis of knowledge that makes this...easier? And again, here's where the part of me that does enjoy these anachronisms and inaccuracies (because they're fun and since we have flying swords why not potatoes) wars with the part of me that's also like, "okay but there is a difference between 'not knowing enough to be respectful of the background surrounding the characters and why that might inform their actions' and 'I've decided that peppers, which did not exist in Eurasia prior to the Columbian Exchange are a big thing here now.'" The difference is respect. Different members of fandom will draw this line in different places and it hits different on different days.

And this is one of the struggles of engaging with foreign language media a lot of the time - we try to strike a balance between engaging with it based on our own experiences and backgrounds and not accidentally saying anything offensive or strange or 'that would totally never happen' or 'he would not fucking talk like that' and I've found, with my time in this fandom, most people who are concerned with accuracy and research are largely trying to be respectful and avoid such gaffes.

Over the two or so years I've been here, I've also reacted to people who've insisted their interpretation is the correct one when it was definitely a case of 'the version Chinese culture that I'm familiar with 200% does not work like that', and saltily wandered off to vent about how 'this is inaccurate and also rude' or try to explain why it wouldn't happen like that. Maybe this comes off as preachy at times, or overly concerned with "accuracy," but that is typically where that sort of reaction comes from for me. I expect this is probably true for other people as well!

And by no means like, do we only engage in fandom because we want to be educated or educate others, and by no means is that an obligation of any fic writer or meta writer or casual fandom goer. We engage with media because it engages us, and we engage with fandom because we love community, and sometimes its no more complex than that.

I enjoy research and art history so that's typically why this appears in my fic, and I started out on doing it to better connect with my own heritage, which I've found more important to me as I've gotten older, so that's where it comes from for me.

Apologies nonny, this was probably not the answer you were looking for and I do commiserate, I'm just chronically unable to be funny on main. 😔

TLDR: there's always nuance in everything unfortunately. Even if this is the no nuance webbed site.

i wasn't going to keep cluttering people's dashes up with my ffxiv stream-of-consciousness posts. but after a chance run-in with @arcanistvysoren in the dusk vigil one night, i was encouraged to make more. so, hey! heavensward! that was a lot!

one thing you can always count on final fantasy to do is give you leitmotifs. sad scene? leitmotif. climactic battle? leitmotif. quest accepted? leitmotif. hey, dragonsong is nice. why not?

it's difficult to overstate how habitually this game throws beautiful atmosphere at you and makes it look effortless. i know i keep repeating myself, but it keeps being true. the quiet desolation of riding through the coerthas western highlands at night with a blizzard battering you and fog obscuring the horizon. ough

i was looking forward to royce's role as a self-exiled ishgardian in this part of the story, and i was very much not let down. heavensward spends a lot of time emphasizing what an irreplaceable asset the warrior of light becomes to ishgard, so the bitter taste that she would have experienced during the early coerthas ARR quests rises to a nauseating pitch. oh, now the ishgardian authorities care. now they want her around. now they want to heap praise on her for pulling them out of the fire. when they did nothing to help save her squad five years ago and went damnatio memoriae on her when she vanished. they're lucky she's too heroic to let them burn.

i'm not exactly sure how she works through her feelings by the end. i'll have to think about it. write about it, maybe. we'll see.

the dragon plot is fine. it works! it's cool! it's all very mythic in scale and appropriately tragic. i'm just more drawn to the expansion's mundane side. it's easy for final fantasy to get carried away with itself when it's got aether and primals and multiverses flying around, so we need the periods where we deal with interpersonal conflict to keep it grounded and speak to lived human experience.

i mean, the windows into how ignorant ishgardian citizens are and how deep their religious indoctrination actually goes? that's meaty. a church covering up everything from their archbishop's love child to the history their core theology was founded on? that's the good stuff

god, it's hilarious how much estinien and aymeric were engineered in a lab for fans to fall in love with them. they're elves, they're tall, they have deep voices and piercing eyes and swooshy hair, they're brooding, they're burdened with great and terrible responsibility. estinien is beat-for-beat the "character 1" archetype of otome games: mysterious and mean, but defrosts over his story arc. you have dinner at aymeric's house! the dev team had to know that these fellows were going to have a following and leaned into it.

speaking of characters, cid is growing on me. i didn't pay much attention to him in ARR, but i like that he continues to play a major role. he's a fun guy to have around. royce draws heavily from cyan garamonde, who's a notorious technophobe, and i wonder whether she inherited some of that character DNA too. you are a good man and i trust you but do not dare augment my lance. more power means more parts to break. cold steel will never fail you

This is such a difficult question to answer, I can’t pick 😭 Pretty much every title that we watch or read or play has a bunch of characters that I adore drawing, but I guess I gravitate towards characters with long hair and unusual hairstyles or outfits?? I also feel the urge to try to draw a character when they are out of my comfort zone, which doesn’t mean that I always do it or good at it, but I always have fun drawing stuff in a different art style (like the guys from Scott Pilgrim),with complicated outfits (like Barok van Zieks) or with mechanic parts (like Ortho!)… but the last one is pretty recent, I just noticed that I kind of enjoy drawing it. I guess I love a challenge? In a way? It’s just more fun that way.

By my comfort type of character and a default option would be a gloomy boy/girl in a hoody, my heart is always smiling whenever I draw this type.

Examples of some of my faves throughout the years (without twst): Levi (SnK), Ainosuke (sk8), Killua (HxH), Shiroba (DMMD), Apollo Justice (AA), Geto (JJK)… this is just a few of them.

I also still think that Prussia from Hetalia is our ultimate boy because I’ve been drawing him for about 15 years now lol

I still giggle every time I think about how we ended up with poor Riddle being surrounded by busty girls, I swear it wasn’t intentional. But the more I think about it, the funnier and more Freudian it gets… what an aggressive way to heal mommy issues and an acute deficiency of tight hugs.

To answer your question, I think Riddle was kind of surprised when she saw Trey after being separated because she didn’t think boobs could get that big. Logically yes, it makes sense, but seeing it in person is different. Riddle always does her best to be proper and act like a lady, but I can imagine her eyes sliding down all the time during their first conversation. Trey would absolutely notice…

Riddle is indeed very curious, and it’s pretty obvious, but she would never talk about it or even ask to touch Trey’s boobs, but maybe one day… you know, for science… or Trey is just going to offer it herself lol save that girl, Trey.

uh. im gonna put more stuff under the cut i guess? iunno, au/headcanon stuffff

ok so, eve. eve is my favourite character in tboi so she's probably one of the most developed in my au, maybe even the most. lol

some basic info, her pronouns are she/her. she's a trans girl, she's around 16 years old and she's goth. emo? i imagine that she's an emo but it's the time where that term wasn't really popular so she calls herself goth. like ebony from my immortal, y'know? she's not as. girlboss though. she's very chill, calm. she's not easily annoyed at all, she's very patient infact! she's one of the older kids in the basement, so it's kinda needed she feels. she doesn't talk to others much, mostly keeps to herself. she can talk to others if needed though.

the reason why she doesn't really talk to others is just because she doesn't really want people knowing about her demon form cuz she's worried it'll freak people out and also because the WoB is very well known for being incredibly violent! fun. her WoB design is inspired by tentacled snakes, not too sure how well i did that tho…. here's a pic of one tho. they're silly little guys

the reason why i chose this creature to base my WoB design off is because 1) they're very silly and i like them and 2) in my au, eve spent most of her childhood in downpour! rainmaker is basically her father figure. she only left downpour recently, to try and figure out more about the other places. there's some important backstory stuff there but i don't really wanna say that rn

dead bird is a literal dead bird. he does move and talk somehow tho. he doesn't really have preferred pronouns because he's a bird but he mostly gets called he, so i guess use those! he is the only thing that eve stays around, mostly just because he won't fucking leave. she only met him recently, after leaving downpour. first thing that happened is that he flew into her face and now they're friends, yay! he's also aware of the fact that she is the WoB but. he doesn't care (fun fact dead bird was actually killed by her a long ass time ago but neither of them remember). his design will probably change? iunno, birds are super difficult for me to draw for some reason… i owned birds for ages but for some reason i do not understand the bird anatomy :(

HI HELLO? This is such a surprising concept since I'm already working on another Enstars AU, but anywho!

The core of Tears of Themis is that it has FOUR love interests, which plays hand in hand with our four agencies, well if that matters since we'll focus more on the personalities.. We'll forgo the dynamics the original four have (like marius being vyn's student, vyn and artem having worked with each other before, luke being part of the group the three are also in)

Now.. speaking of those four though, it's time to draw different parallels with them and a character from Enstars. It'll take a while for me to remember what they're exactly like since it's been about two or so years since I last played it..

Okay, starting off with a guy who works in the same field as you, he is your boss basically and would fuss about you not taking care of yourself- ding ding ding, who do I draw Artem parallel to? Ibara Saegusa.

so THIS stood out "Artem's favorite movie genres are art films and war films." and??? Okay, let's roll from that.

So then, moving onto Vyn, because my friend's favorite was Vyn and she would always talk to me about how Marius steals her pulls and like?? He's something.. is he a manipulator? Is he a yandere? I don't know but when he said "Destruction precedes creation" it reminded me of the genshin fanart with Albedo as Vyn. ... AND okay, so Albedo, right? He's voiced by Nojima Kenji and the person is DING DING DING, the parallel goes to!

Oh, and the two of them have really influential parents, go figure.

However, he is sometimes derisive of common human flaws, such as the tendency to prioritize selfish short-sighted personal gain while still rationalizing those same choices as logical and intelligent <- BAHSHAJKA they're both hypocrites

Yeah okay, so last but not the least! jsldkjfsl this is super funny because Marius shares a va with TSUMUGI, TSUMUGI AOBA!! Him and Luke were my favorites actually, oh look.. me falling for the childhood friend trope and a character with purple eyes.. ah...

"It is difficult to understand this second young master. " <- Okay, Hiyori. I'm calling it now. Rich kid that gets on people's nerves sometimes? Hmmm

Good at art, though the only person that comes to mind is Hajime.. who is the opposite of rich.

Maybe it’s just because there’s only so many ways to draw a type of thing, but I have seven thoughts about Elemental (2023) after watching it again lol.

1. It showcases a lovely balanced relationship between artists. Ember, of course, has an eye and hand for glass making, and Wade sees the potential and ability she has; how her light shines through to the world and him, figuratively and literally. Meanwhile, Wade’s way with words is more subtle, but really reaches in deep and converts visual art into emotion; it takes a good writer and speaker to convey feeling into accessible ideas. And Ember recognizes his talent, and lets it touch her.

They bring light into each other’s lives; without each other, they were fine and functioning and almost happy, but when they have the other, that’s just the icing on the cake.

2. The art style looks worse without motion. Both characters are constantly unconsciously moving in every shot; Ember flickers and Wade drips. Plus, the way light works with them and around them doesn’t translate well to a still image (especially with Ember; it’s hard to draw without outline, and I think it helped with visibility and stability on the screen, but in stills it looks awkward.).

A lot of fan art I’m seeing seems to struggle with this outline/still problem, again more with Ember than with Wade, but a lot of artists have added their own spin and style and made it work. I think the problem is directly related to how it’s difficult to capture water, fire and light ‘sources’ like the moon via photo. So if the art style for that particular aspect is turning you off, and you’ve only seen stills, I’d suggest you watch a bit of video or a good gif set (there’s already quite a few) before deciding whether it’s worth watching or not.

3. Speaking of art, this movie really reminded me of Studio Ghibli movies. Maybe there’s only so many ways to draw something, or maybe it’s just the Howl’s Moving Castle (both book and film) and Ponyo fan in me, but Ember for sure took a lot of visual inspiration from Calcifer, it’s the red outline and such, and Wade the waves from Ponyo. It was fun to see! Also tbh I saw some Dr. Seuss CGI movie shapes in their bodies.

4. Ember and Burnie breaking the cycle. When Burnie left Fire Land for Element City, he was following his dreams (and he even started enough of a trend that his whole neighborhood because a new fire town). But his Sad disagreed with him. As a last attempt at connection, Burnie bowed a Bok Sa (sp?), a very deep bow, to his father, to show respect and love. His Dad did not return the gesture, spurning his son and his dreams, and turned away.

When Ember leaves for the glassblowing internship, she performed a Bok Sa for her Dad (and it’s so intimate guys. Like it’s almost embarrassing to look at because it’s raw and passionate and I really admire the creators for Not restraining it). Burnie sees a chance to show his daughter that he loves her, and that he respects her dreams (despite his and Cinder’s sacrifice of emigration from Fire Land, which is a big theme in this movie), and so he holds back the hurt his father laid upon him, so many years ago. He does a Bok S- back. It’s wonderful. I’m not sure he would’ve done that at the beginning of the movie, but his love for his daughter won out in the end.

(I just wish that the mother-daughter relationship received a little more canon consideration as well, but I appreciate the movie for the relations it did focus on.)

5. The city fucks up in a big way, and of course it’s up to the people affected to solve it, at least in the short term. Despite water being a huge hazard and supposedly already gotten rid of in fire town, there’s still a water train that passes regularly and always displaces enough water to kill a fire person. And in terms of the dam, there’s so much bureaucracy that Gale (the city safety officer?) found it easier to (nearly) shut down a business than to get a health hazard (the broken dam) fixed.

And when Ember covers up the hole, she leaves it! Her tempered glass doesn’t get support, and it eventually cracks and floods Fire Town, nearly killing lots of residents and leading to Wade’s evaporation.

6. Feel free to add on but I’m surprised that no globe has really talked about the disability angle yet. I i afraid I don’t have enough experience being physically disabled to talk about it in a nuanced enough way but oh well. It’s there. The way the fire people needed different transportation (also there was a fire person in a wheelchair. How things that are safe for others could kill them (Cinder nearly died while carrying ember because a guy dripped on her, which is a thing that others would find mildly inconvenient). How Wade’s nephew casually mentioned that Ember could die if she stepped off her mobility aid (the floatie) and proceeded to mess with it. And of course the shame, embarrassment and fear of being excluded & discriminated against.

7. More Men Should Cry!!! It literally saved Wade’s life lmao.

and okay, i am prefacing this with: this is my headcanon for this au and just my au general. and my aroace headcanons could differ from yours. i care a LOT about her aroace representation because i am an aroace person too. i believe both are a spectrum that are danced and bringing lilith to life in this au, i applied that to her.

in the human au, hunter is just simply lilith's actual bio son.

it's not often lilith has a wanting for sex or even cares about it, but it crops up every once in a blue moon. (greyacespec!) and because lilith is not interested in seeking someone for romantic purpose at all, like some adults, she has just taken part in one night stands a few times in life. he's just an accident, lol.

it's never meant to be thought on too deeply. like there's no in depth story or identity of the person. i really just wanted her to be his biological mom for this because i wanted to explore the life of an aroace single parent and her son she decided to keep, in this way. it’s not that deep but it also lends to some funny stuff like how they don't look much alike at all but he has every single allergy she does.

in the au, lilith is already 36 when this happens. her life is stable and she's built up a success at the museum she works at. she's an accredited historian and has a good life.(childhood was difficult and where a lot of her lilith troubles form and carry into this au). and while this is a jarring experience, she realizes she's fully capable of raising a baby in a healthy and stable environment. this isn't all black and white, i explore how she feels like she's not cut out for motherhood. how she's autistic (i am an autistic lilith truther), how she doesn't have a very solid relationship with gwen, and part of her wants to prove she can do better than she did, like it's something she thinks deeply on and faces a lot of questions and feelings, some she's never felt before. (also she doesn't even tell her family for so long until she gets scared and calls to confess and tell eda everything luuul. eda is eda and (lightly) makes fun of her but of course helps set her right.) lilith being a capable parent and person on her own is a big focus of the au.

so yeah, again i really wanted to explore all of this like this to make an au where they were both happy and think about them growing in this setting. hunter with a true and loving parental figure all his life and lilith doing something this major the way she would.

and as an aroace person who will likely be a single parent, it's just personal for me too.

April Fusions haha

They kept rotting my brain for a hot second so I started writing up concepts myself, but then this ask properly sprung me into action. @bluepeachstudios you've done it again with the hinting!

I suppose the only really interesting things about these takes are how I named them. I already have a fusion storyline planned for my own TMNT iteration, and the Turtles fuse with April in it so I combined their names there. I didn't want to do that again here, so instead I took a more unique approach. I named them after each of the Turtles' VAs' birthday months (because, you know, April). I mean, why not utilise canon/meta/out-of-universe facts for a project like this? I can't do this for my own characters. I did have two rules in place in case any of them overlapped, of which I was forced to use one.

May

May is probably my least favourite out of the bunch. There's really nothing about her that screams Leo besides like- a shell, blue eyes, injuries... It's probably therefore not surprising I drew her first, so I really didn't know what I wanted to emphasise and so on. I should probably have had her face the camera more to get a better sense of her jawline. Make sure to make it nice and boxy lol

The plastron pride flags are demigirl, aroace and lesbian. While I do in my heart of hearts believe Leo has a not insignificant crush on Captain Ryan, I still wanted our gal to be a flaming lesbian despite that lol.

March

March was incredibly fun to draw, and not just because @bluecookiesabi is an absolute joy to hang out with (thank the heavens for Discord streams!). I just really like drawing more feminine characters. I had most likely already sketched both May and March before I found the ask so I didn't know March is agender, but I don't think that's a problem at all. Agender people are allowed to be feminine, after all. And I don't consider Donnie to be some pinnacle of masculinity to begin with.

I figured, since the fic tags state that Donnie's autistic here, I'd give March just fluffy socks and slippers to keep dust and dirt from their feet for sensory reasons. That is definitely not projection on my part.

They're kind of giving 2003 April vibes with their hair in a bun. That was a happy accident which I'm really glad I kept to.

January

January is just green April. Hers and Mikey's designs are already so incredibly similar in-canon I'm convinced she'd look pretty much exactly like him had she been mutated into a turtle. I didn't even feel the need to open January's eyes since they'd just be the same shade of blue more or less.

I don't have much to say about him other than she was fun to draw. Gymnastics poses are honestly kind of therapeutic to draw. But also, how are they able to make that pose? The answer is simple: January is just built different.

I also labelled xir as only aroace since I don't know what you have planned for Mikey.

September

I'm really happy with how he turned out. While sketching I couldn't get the pose really working but once I did she really came together. I'd say September is the only Fusion (besides maybe March) that actually looks like the people he's made up of merged. Raph's stocky build fits April surprisingly well. And the choice to give her April's kunoichi getup but tattered was a really good idea in my opinion, and I'd like to give @pechtothevoid the credit they are so deservedly owed for that idea.

While not fic accurate at all, I had such a difficult time coming up with a good weapon for September. Who knew combining sai with tessen would be difficult? So instead I gave her a boomerang, which reminded me of Sokka, so I just straight up gave him Sokka's boomerang. I like the idea of her, upon fusing, just snagging Sokka's boomerang from the Mae Whitman-verse and using it as a blunt force weapon. I wanted to in a similar vein give him the One Ring from the Sean Astin-verse, but I couldn't get that to look good no matter how I placed it.

I like the name rules I came up with. Basically, since I didn't know in which months any of their actors were born in I had to come up with a replacement idea for naming in case any of them happen to overlap. The first rule was that if Rob and Greg happened to share a month with anyone else, the Donnie and Mikey Fusions would automatically get assigned December and May respectively. If Seth or Sean were to have overlapped with anyone, Leo's and Raph's Fusions would get the/a month whose first letter is the closest to either character's first name. March and January checked out, but since Seth and Sean are both born in February, I was forced to assign Leo and Raph May and September each. Small price to pay, honestly.
