I really haven't been the same ever since my trip to Colorado to see my dad. My mental health has felt "tilted" or slightly off, and it doesn't even feel real. I can barely remember the plane rides as real. I think I checked out mentally a few times and might still be gone.

Seeing him and hearing him tell me the same ridiculous lies and condescending half-truths on what could have been his death bed, and me just grinning and bearing it, and being attacked by my sister and given an insincere apology, and telling my mom I want to go on disability and having her pretend like I never said it...things aren't well. I don't think I'm mentally here.

I had a doctor's appointment today I couldn't make it to. I know it's my fault. I know I needed to go for my own health and I feel bad about it. But my mom guilted me so bad about not going that she started crying and waking up my sister to gain sympathy for herself. She will be happy if she and my sister proceed to ghost me for the rest of the day for this betrayal, and they've done it before. That's what I have to deal with. When I mess up, I'm a literal villain who doesn't deserve basic good treatment for days sometimes.

I am thankful she took time off work to take me to this appointment, but I don't know why she treats me like me "making" her take time off work for a yearly appointment (that we don't even schedule yearly anyway) is such a big and difficult thing, she treats it like such a chore but will take time off work for other things with less complaining. I feel like such a burden for requiring basic care. I wish I could drive, I wish I lived alone, I wish I could take care of myself. I really do. I feel so sick because I know today is going to be another difficult day just floating in a mental void without comfort. I'm so tired of being made to feel this way. I can't even make mistakes in peace.

Even though its been many years since laios cut off the arrangement and disappeared you still found yourself getting upset at him. He just cancelled it all and ran off to not be heard from again.

Of course over the years that anger and frustration faded greatly but every so often your mind would wander and you would feel your cheeks heat up at the thought of being abandoned like that. but over all you figure it was probably for the best anyway, you dont mind your life and that touden was always...strange to say the least even if he was a looker.

One day though as you are going about your day when laios mother approaches you, asking if she can come in. You agree and let her inside, despite your feelings about laios you had no bad blood with her. you get the both of you some tea as she starts speaking. "Did you hear about the rise of the golden kingdom?" she asks, you nod and say of course you had. it had been the talk of the entire world ever since it rose up out of the sea, seemingly out of nowhere one day. Apparently some group of adventurers defeated the mad mage and seemed like those rumors about becoming the new leader of it was true. You say casually as you take a sip of some tea. "yeah well apparently Laios was the one that defeated the mage and rules the golden kingdom now." she says so casually causing you to spit all the tea you were drinking out, shouting in confusion you ask her if you heard that right? she nods and explains what she had been told from letters from falin, you knew that falin had stayed in touch with there parents but laios had apparently cut them off a decade ago much to your surprise.

You decide to pay a visit, you feel like you almost HAVE to. you need to know why he just left you like that, why he did what he did all those years ago. It took you a bit to get to the new golden kingdom, laios definitely had travelled a far distance since your last time you saw him. By the time you reach the kingdom a full month has passed, you ask the guards to message the king telling him that "Y/N from his arranged marriage wanted to see him." of course you werent sure he would even respond, i mean why would he. he didnt want to marry you obviously so why should he care about seeing you, especially now that he is a KING of all things. However you were surprised when the guard came back and agreed to take you to the king.

When you entered you saw him sitting on a throne. To his left you see a young elf woman with twin braids beside him, This must have been his royal advisor maybe? you werent sure. However you did notice his sister beside her chatting with her...except she was different, she wasnt a tall man anymore..atleast not fully. you noticed a plume of fluffy white feathers poking out of the opening on her chest and down her arms. It was clear she had been changed by some form of magic.

As you walk closer laios asks if everyone can leave the room for a moment, he wants to talk privately with you as they agree and leave leaving only you and him. "So Y/N, how have things been?" He asks awkwardly, its clear he is uncomftorable and doesnt know what to say. You had thought of the things you would say to him for years now, over and over you had gone over in your head what you were going to say to the man that just up and left you like that. you would be furious and scream, sob and cry, all the words you planned to say just dissapear and all you can say is a single word. "why.."

He sighs as he rubs his neck and begins to explain, He tells you how he had began to despise his parents for how they let falin be treated, and how instead of supporting her and her talents they sent her away to the magic school on a different continent. He had grown to hate his parents (more so his father but he had no fond feelings towards his mother either) even though falin kept in contact with them. He also explained how he never felt comfortable around people, that he had always felt more comfortable around monsters...and that in truth he hated people. Plus he admits he wasnt the richest person in the world so would have been able to give you a proper dowry. All of these together made him feel like he wouldnt have been able to give you the life you deserved, he didnt want you to be stuck with a man that hated everyone around him and hated where he lived and wanted to leave and get as far away as he could. He figured that wasnt fair to you, and he didnt know how to properly convey this and let you down easily so...he ran.

The weight of his words hit you harder than you expected...all this time you thought he just didnt like you or hated you ever, or he didnt care about you at all. All this time you hated him for what he did and that you swore you would get answers one day...but these werent the answers you were expected. It would have been so easy to continue to be mad at him, if he said he just didnt like you or hated you that would have been fine..you expected it at this point, but no...he did this because he didnt want to subject you to a miserable life with him..he knew you would be miserable with him if he had stayed there and he didnt want to put you through that...god this was so much harder than you were expecting. "You know....now that im king of the golden kingdom money isnt an issue..and ive made sure the kingdom is a kind place that treats everyone with kindness." you see him slump down a bit. "and since monsters come nowhere near the kingdom...if you want, we can get to know each other better..and see how we feel about each other then?" he says softly, damn that man he was a looker. you sigh, almost relieved its turned out that way. saying you would like that

Summary: Y/Ns ableist Dad comes to the BAU and starts being an Ableist arsehole to his daughter, her father figure (Hotch) steps in and saves her.

Third Person pov...

It had been 3 years since Y/N L/N joined the BAU, she was 21 when she joined and instantly became the baby of the team and Hotch became her Dad, Y/N is autistic and has sensory issues.

Ever since she was little her father was ablest and would bully her and verbally abuse her saying how her being Autistic meant something was wrong with her and that she needed fixing, the man caused her to have so many meltdowns and sensory overloads that it made others concerned her teachers as school.

He was later arrested for child abuse and was sent to prison, Y/N was then left with her neighbours who were a nice loving family and always liked her but hated her dad and were glad she got away from him after suffering for years, her Mum was out of the picture.

The young girl had so much trauma from her childhood when she joined the BAU that Hotch became her father figure, their relationship helped mend Y/Ns trauma from her bio dad and she was able to live comfortably knowing he wasnt in her life anymore, she was treated with respect and was always told that her autism wasn't a bad thing.

From being with Penelope and Spencer (who are also Autistic) her relationship with her Autism was mended and she was able to be herself, while with her dad she could stim or doing anything 'autistic' but with her new found family she was free to stim and had all her accomedations, if anyone disrespected her or called her weird they would have to deal with an angry Hotch and the rest of the team.

It was a normal day for the team, they weren’t on a case and for once they all got to relax and fill out paperwork, well aside from Hotch and Spencer no one was doing any paperwork, Derek and Emily were sat giggling loudly like children as they kept throwing rolled up pieces of paper at their second youngest member.

The laughter increased as they kept hitting their mark, Spencers head, the genius was none the wiser as a pile of paper was forming around him at their many failed attempts. From the side JJ and Penelope sit and watch as Spencer doesn't realise, opposite the genius sat Y/N she was busy spinning in her chair with her headphones on and watching the scene play out.

She had the perfect poker face for when a paper ball hit Spencer's head, as the children in the bull pen play the two adults Hotch and Rossi where actually getting work done, , well Hotch was at least the Italian was drinking and watching the kids outside keeping an eye on them as someone responsible needed too.

As Y/N continued to spin around her in chair she didn’t hear the heavy footsteps off someone walking up behind her, the H/C woman was suddenly yanked off her chair and onto the hard floor by a man, in the process of being manhandled her headphones when flying off her head.

“What did I tall ya about doing that Girl!” exclaimed a voice that haunted her nightmares, gasping in terror Y/N stared frozen at her Father who was suppose to be in prison, the large man had a sickening grin on his face as he saw the terror in his daughter eyes.

“Yes its me!” he laughed that horrible laugh that had Y/N holding her hands overs her ears, the 21 year old was still frozen on the floor while the others were staring at the scene before them guns raised, by this time Hotch and Rossi had heard what happened and were out of their offices.

“bu-but your supposed to be in jail!” exclaimed Y/N finally finding her voice stuttering, the man looked down at her crumpled form, he then grabbed the front of her blouse pulling his daughter close. “they let me out for good behaviour, did ya miss me!” he semi whispered as Y/Ns face grew a sickening pale white, she scrambled to get away but the man wouldn’t let go instead he raised his hand and slapped her.

Y/N cried out in pain. “you really didn’t think I could be held for long did ya you retard! You really are still a fucked in the head as you were years ago” yelled the man, Hotch had had enough, he rain down thw ramp arms raised, gun in his hands. “Get your hands on hr now, you do realise you just assaulted a federal agent” growled out Hotch as the man teared his eyes away from the shivering form of his daughter.

He spat at Hotch. “your not her father I am, this waste of space in am Agent HA!”!” he laughed again and kicked Y/N hard in the ribs, Penelope gasps tears in her eyes as she witnesses her friend get beaten. Y/N holds in her cries of pain and raises her head from the floor glaring at the man.

“your not my dad you never have been!” she cried tears rolling down her face, the sadistic man smirked at the tears rolling down his daughters face, the sight reminding off when she was a kid and he would verbally abuse her, he had never hit her before now, it felt good.

Her words made him angry. “I am your father retard, though I hate to admit it you share my blood, your as stupid as I remember crying on the floor like the child you are to stupid to do what I say” he goes on on berating Y/N and saying how stupid she was once again verbally abusing her, as he went on his rant Y/N managed to stand up.

She was then pulled behind Hotch, his finger close to pulling the trigger. “you Bastard, you shut the fuck up now, you have crossed the line now get out of my building and away from my Daughter before I pump your body full of bullets!” yelled Hotch threw clenched teeth, he was so close to pulling the trigger instead he stormed up so he was chest to chest with the man and pulled back his fist.

When he lets go his right hand connected with the nose he was satisfied to feel it shatter, a smirk on his face before gesturing to a couple of agents. “now don’t ever come back or I will kill you” Hotches hand was burning but he felt satisfied when Y/Ns Dad freeze before he tsked and stormed out not before calling Y/N the R slur before he was detained by two agents ans forced into handcuffs.

Hotch crossed his arms before turning around to hug Y/N was had collapsed, the stress from her dad coming in draining her, she was then sat at her desk with Hotch hovering around her looking at her injuries, E/C eyes locked on his brown ones.

“Im your daughter” she whispers hoarsely, this made Hotch smile and run his hand through her hair. “of course, you are sweetie” he smiled softly kissing her forehead still smiling when she smiles back.

•The first experience with love, sex and friendships was most likely painful or just extremely weird. They were definitely hurt early on. This can be something that happened so early that they barely remember it.

•There is some kind of betrayal that happens early in life that made them paranoid and sometimes even obsessive and controlling. This makes them hold on to people to never feel that kind of loss ever again. Most times the first betrayal was from a parent.

•They feel like there is this wall between them and others because they are so deep and so aware of themselves in a way most people arent. Especially when young. They love to dig deep into themselves which most people avoid. This makes them feel very lonely.

•They feel so intensely for their friends and lovers and when young they have a hard time understanding that not everyone feels like them. People might tell them ”You still havent gotten over him?!?” And they be like ”Uh no it was only 10 years ago”

•People were afraid of the sexual energy oozing from them and avoiding them to not be reminded of their own shameful lust. So the blame was put on them. ”You are vulgar” ”You disgust me” ”Dont stand so close to me”. Anything to ignore this lust that the Venus 8th house person made them feel.

•To not gain these strong uncomfortable reactions from others they often become people pleasers. Hyper aware of their surroundings and how they come across, trying not to do something to awake a strong reaction from anyone.

•In their teenage years something strange happens, same sex friends they grew up with starts acting weird. Puberty. Somewhere along the lines the other girls/boys started noticing the reactions the Venus 8th house person gets from the boys/girls at school. Envy. This changes their relationship to the same sex forever.

TRANSFORMATION

•These people have the gift of transformation. They transform all the time. Their style, persona, body language, face. They change so much that people might not even recognize them after a few years.

•They transform their selfworth since they were taught from a young age that something is wrong with them. When they reach a certain age they start to understand and notice how it wasnt them who was at fault.

•If you tell them something they did or said a few years ago they might get shocked. ”That does not sound like me?”

•The biggest transformations usually come after a breakup or end of a friendship.

•These people knew they were sexy before they knew what sexy was. They grasped early that something about them made people feel a weird feeling in their presence. This made them feel dirty and wrong so a lot of them hide behind baggy clothes.

•When they reach their 40s they are incredibly captivating. When they have gone through all that transformation and finally found themselves. If you ever met an 8th houser in their 40s you know what i mean. They ooze a confidence and passion that makes the neighbourhood teenage boys drool over their milfy/dilfy neighbour.

i feel like alba taking bambi is a bit extreme. hear me out! like yes ofc caring for one kid more than the other is bad!! but with the whole ale forgetting bambi at daycare it’s like what parent hasn’t forgot to pick up their kid once. like does that make sense like i feel like especially because it happend only once and she was at her job when she forgot that shouldn’t warrant alba legit taking her daughter away from her? like it just wasnt THAT big of a deal like ofc it’s not good but i think alba is reacting a bit over the top about it. idk maybe my perspective is different, but what do you think? id love to hear your opinion as the writer

I don't think you guys understand just how much I love answering these kinds of asks. Also, sorry in advance because this is going to be a lot of psych ramble but genuinely parent-child relationships and their impacts are actually so fascinating to me

So, the whole Alexia forgetting Bambi thing would be a big escalation if that was the only reason Alba had for removing Bambi from her home. It looks like the only reason but there were a lot of other things that Alba would have noticed when she got Bambi from nursery.

So, first of all, what Alexia's been doing is emotional neglect. Compared to other forms of neglect, emotional neglect is one of the harder ones to recognise because it's not as obvious as something like physical neglect.

The signs are very subtle and it's difficult to notice if you're not a child's primary caregiver.

From Bambi's perspective, she's been shoved to the side a bit since Jaume was born. She was never really close to Olga so she can cope with that in a sense (not that she should have to) but Alexia's disregard for her definitely hits hard.

It's a lot of little things built up onto each other. In Injured IV, when Alexia comes home she immediately greets Olga and Jaume but doesn't even spare Bambi a look. Bambi stays under that coffee table for quite a while in the hope that Alexia will notice she's not there and look for her but she never does.

She also mentions when Jaume isn't 'being good' then she doesn't get things like a bedtime story or cuddles at bed which is essentially her equating Jaume crying with the fact that Alexia yet again forgetting about her and that his needs trump her own.

There's also the fact that all of Bambi's individual pictures have been changed to ones of her and Jaume which leads to her thinking that she's only worth anything if her brother is attached to it. Similarly, all of the pictures she drew have been taken off the fridge in favour of a photo of Olga, Alexia and Jaume. Even when she lets Alba put her drawing up in Injured IV, she places it on the side of the fridge where it won't be seen as clearly.

Bambi also learnt how to cry quietly. When Kids are younger they can't communicate their feelings properly and crying loudly gets the attention of a caregiver so they can receive comfort. Bambi's learnt to cry quietly because she knows that no one will come to give her comfort if Jaume is also crying even though there are two adults in the house, one for each of them.

Emotional neglect really builds on a child as young as Bambi and causes effects like low self-esteem, depression and anxiety and in more extreme cases failure to thrive and Bambi, sadly, is on track for all of them.

Now, that's all from Bambi's perspective and, of course, Alba can't know all of that because she's not Bambi's primary caregiver.

She can only go off on what she can see. What she knows for sure, at first, is that Alexia and Olga have both forgotten Bambi.

That isn't what makes her take Bambi though.

She gets a notification from the Barca account saying that they're meeting their youngest teammate and it's got a picture of Alexia, Olga and Jaume so it's not like both of them were super busy and that's why they forgot Bambi.

There's also the change in routine that Bambi mentions. She used to get a new train every week and when Alba mentions that, she finds out that Bambi hasn't received a new train in weeks (more like months) which is a massive deviation from an established routine.

There's also the celebration they watch on tv with Alexia winning the Copa de la Reina and all those pictures of her with Jaume and the cup and there's no hint at all that she realises Bambi isn't there with her.

There's obviously Bambi's reaction to that too and her tearing up the picture because she doesn't think it's real (bearing in mind that it's a picture of her, Alexia, Olga and Jaume as a family).

It's clear to Alba that something is going on and Bambi isn't doing well because she's been in such a sad mood since she picked her up and then Bambi hides herself away in her room and Alba can't get the door open.

It's a pretty big emotional outburst from Bambi and quite out of character to how she had been previously.

Honestly, everything is out of character from what Alba previously knows - both Alexia and Bambi and it's enough for her to think that perhaps the two need to be separated.

The anger from Injured IV comes in because it's been hours since the final ended and Bambi hid herself away compared to when Alexia, Olga and Jaume come home.

Throughout that entire time, Bambi wasn't even a thought. Alexia didn't even realise Bambi had been left at nursery until she got home which is hours after Alba had to cancel her own plans to get Bambi.

The anger probably escalated the situation a bit more than it needed to but Alba had hours to stew and piece everything together so Bambi's removal from Alexia was warranted once she'd put it all together.

That's all from Inured IV, not onto Injured V:

So childhood emotional neglect is especially impactful the younger a child is. Bambi is around 4 and she's at that age where she's beginning to understand her own and others emotions. Having a stable caregiver to help her work through this is crucial and she doesn't have that so there's a big chance that she'll be developmentally delayed because of it.

This, of course, could lead to big impacts down the road when she goes to school and makes friends and even when she gets older and develops adult relationships.

She's already got low self-worth and is trying to be too independent at too young an age because to her, nobody wants to pay attention to her.

In Injured V, she actually flinches away from Alexia when she tries to grab her because she's now used to being ignored by her mother and having Alexia suddenly wanting her is overwhelming and strange.

It's seen in Injured V how different Bambi is in Alexia's home vs Alba's home when she's genuinely excited to show Alba the picture she made because she's still in her developmental stage and is still able to adapt and come back from this - at least in a way that will have minimal impact on her emotional development and regulation.

Of course, we also find out that Bambi at least suspects that she wasn't as planned as previously thought. She knows Jaume was definitely planned but she's slowly finding out that she wasn't so that's another hit to her confidence. She equates how Jaume is being treated to him being wanted and how she's being treated to her not being wanted.

When Eli comes and all of this comes out, it's clear that this is deep rooted stuff.

As I said previously, emotional neglect is one of the forms of neglects that's hardest to notice. Alba has no way of knowing just how long this has been going on for and just how close this is to having extremely detrimental effects to Bambi's emotional development.

The low self-esteem is already there. She's nervous at the thought of seeing Alexia, Olga and Jaume so there's some anxiety setting in too. For all Alba knows, the depression could be next and if she had left Bambi there, the potential of failure to thrive is quite high too.

So, honestly, Alba removing Bambi was probably the best way to do it. With Bambi with Alba, she would know how she was doing and even if she had left Bambi there and explained what was happening to Alexia, there was always a chance that it could regress back to the neglect again even if Alexia promised to work on it.

Honestly, the standard practice for suspected emotional neglect should be to report it to child services so Alba is actually doing Alexia a favour by not getting them involved.

But, yeah, this is really long but those are essentially the thought processes of everyone 🤷‍♀️

honestly, when i first saw sora's backstory, i didnt react much, but now im noticing everything and its just really sad to think about

see this little kid who was full of hope? see this girl, that was just an innocent kid full of life, having that one role model that every kid had in some point of their lives?

this girl was then stripped away from everything she loved the moment she realized the truth, that this "role model" of hers was abusing poor innocent creatures, that their people have been brainwashed by this so-called emperess she actually used to follow, having your own parents shun you and take away everything you had and isolate you just because you knew the truth, and said truth wasnt just something bad, no, it was a fucking nightmare to think about, imagine taking that all in at 10

if the merge never happend, she would've been stuck in that sucker of a realm her whole life. she wouldve never been able to continue her childhood, her love for tech, nothing just absolutely nothing. she wouldve been locked away and alone forever, she wouldnt even have her own family by her side

the fact she didnt even hesitate to leave when the merge happend is heartbreaking, she was so fucking young, and was treated so poorly by everyone. imagine staying like that for probably months. she even named herself after that freaking dragon to respect her.

and as someone who actually experienced what sora had to endure when i was a kid, being shunned by my family for nearly a year during that time, i just have to point out that:

ana and sora are two completely different charcters.

when ana left, she became sora. a completely new person that was an ending with a new beginning, seeds that became remenants.

I know alot of people will disagree with me and say that lloyd had a tougher backstory, or maybe harumi, etc, but every charcter experienced something the other wouldnt handle, making no tragedy rougher than the other

ok on the topic of all the nu carnival characters having great backstories theres also so much good shit brought up by the characters interactions with each other, and each character has multiple things you could deep dive into instead of having just one Piece of Lore

like a few examples off the top of my head:

firstly dante, he has the pressures of ruling a kingdom from a young age and having to grow up fast, plus the public opinion of him not being good, PLUS all the issues that come with having no parents and being an orphan from a young age PLUS the fact that he was born frail and wasnt allowed to leave his house much like thats FOUR absolutely HUGE things

or like with rei, he has the hypersexuality thing but also the fact that he's constantly on the run and has to be good at being unnoticeable, plus whatever his past is with the royal family and all the pressure that came with that, plus also his mom is dead and she apparently died protecting him like its just 😭

and then for characters interacting theres SOO much they could, and have, done with that

i think blood key is a good example of this with how dante and olivine both had the fear of their past mistakes/their flaws (or not mistakes, in dante's case, but bad decisions they were forced into) changing how they were percieved by the people they care about and how that relates to their respective backstories (family + societal pressure)

or to combine my dante and rei examples before, they could do so much with them both having dead parents, or both having societal pressure to be perfect just cus they were born into royal families

AITA for telling my hairdresser the truth?

So I've (25f) been going to the same Hairdresser (27F) for over 7 years. Shes amazing and I love her. I have a guy friend D (31M) who used to go to the same salon i did, but ended up leaving and going where his mom did. About 5 years ago I encouraged him to try her service and he did and has been loyal since

I had a falling out with him over a few issues, mostly personal (such as him calling me names as "jokes", him getting drunk and telling our friends we were celebrating his birthday with that I was a whore, etc). He claims he was drunk the one time and everything else was him joking and I needed to lighten up. I almost agreed, he is very good at talking, and then he came out that he was dating a girl. Who was still in high school.

I dont typically have an issue with age gaps when someone is of a certain maturity, but I knew the girl and she was very immature (never having had a relationship, didn't know what career she wanted, etc). He has everything figured out for himself and has bought a house and lived in it, he just wants a wife.

Well they surprised everyone and got married prior to the original date they had set. Which brings up the Hairdresser because he went to her the day before to get his hair done and mentioned he was getting married the next day.

She was shocked. She asked me my honest opinion and I told her it. I said we don't talk much anymore, I wasnt invited (they had about 15 people invited) even though the rest of my siblings were (one was working and couldn't go the other went as D was best man in his wedding). I also told her I am concerned that they have only been together less then a year and she's just now 18 (which I didnt know prior). I felt concerned because he is encouraging her to quit her job and stay home to cook and clean. I had previously expressed my concerns to the girl which D obviously didn't like and he called me drunk yelling at me one night.

The hairdresser was shocked again and didn't realize how young the girl was. She said she felt uncomfortable with a few things he had said and done during the last session but she wanted to make sure she wasn't overreacting (j dont know exactly what was said and done). She mentioned she probably won't have him back as a client.

I told my siblings at our monthly dinner, and the one who had him as best man actually was the one who didn't care and said it was my opinion. My sister told me I shouldn't have said anything and was smearing his reputation and pointed out that one of the reasons I was mad at D was because he had been going around to our mutual friends (including some mutual friends' parents) and had talked bad about me (alluding to me having a drinking problem and sleeping around, when I hadn't drank for over 6 months at the time he did this and im a virgin lmao- not like im going to correct his thinking on if I am a virgin, because it isnt any of his business, but I have no clue why he thinks I'm not).

So AITA for telling my hairdresser the truth and potentially getting her to remove him as a client?

anon. i will literally kiss you on the mouth i have. so many

she isn’t used to adults not trusting her. she grew up chosen, she knew the rules and how to follow them so adults just inherently trusted her and took her word as fact. that’s not to say she wasn’t a little shit before the bad kids, she was just used to getting away with shit because no one thought to question her. so moving into mordred where she has none of that clout to back her and is being pretty consistently tailed by sandra lynn would be so fucking jarring. people calling her bullshit when she’s used to getting away with anything had to be a total fucking nightmare for her cuz like. new rules, new dynamics, she isn’t inherently trusted anymore and she has no clue how to navigate that

the applebees had to be just... so emotionally repressed. i believe that they are a no crying family, she's the only girl of three boys but the same rules had to apply and i think thats why she is so kind of like... emotionally erratic especially in sophmore year, just because you spend that long holding everything in and plastering a smile on it, you get a little weird.

kristen has no sense of self preservation. she spent her whole young life being protected by helio so like, she makes dumb moves and gets hurt a lot, not because she is dumb but because she is isn't used to her actions having harsh consequences. she jumped off the top of the building with nothing but a ribbon because she genuinely thought it would work, she thought some divine intervention would save her, and when it didn't? she got hurt. and she keeps getting hurt because she was raised to believe that she was more or less invincible and shes just not.

feels immense guilt over how good she was at being helioc and how easy it was for her to be prejudiced. unlearning 14 years of fucked up, racist rhetoric has to be just so hard and i think its probably hard feeling stupid for not knowing things that everyone else does. and she has these thoughts of like, missing how good she was at being helioc, how easy it all was, so she hates herself for missing that part of herself but its just so hard to be reformed.

i see a lot of comparison between her and adaine in like. the shitty parents club but i honestly think she’s almost more comparable to fabian in having parents who love her so dearly but like. only the idea of who she represents not the actual person who she is. this is also, kinda rough but i do believe the applebees believed in corporal punishment but i think that fabian and kristen are both pretty staunch in believing that it wasnt that bad, which the bad kids probably hate.

trigger warning: reader's (you) will be given a backstory in this series. i usually dont like to do this in a character x reader series but it will give better structure for me to write and tell you the story as you read along. there will be talks of neglect.

life wasnt easy for you.

you had a childhood that made you always in either fight or flight mode.

your mother was at a constant battle with herself that she took it out on you. she blamed you that she had to grow up quicker than what she wanted and was forced to deal with you.

your father was great from what you remember but ultimately he left you and your mom. you didnt understand of course when you caught him packing his belongings and seeing your mother sit on the bedroom cry with a bottle or two in hand.

you remember asking where he was going and he just told you that he'll back so you waited and waited while dealing with your mother.

he never came back.

as you got older you told yourself that once you hit 18 you would leave her to allow her to sit in her self-pity but she beat you to the punch.

you got home one day after school with the house empty - no note, food or anything. you just figured she went out drinking once more but then that day turned into days where you were just sitting alone.

she left you just as your father left you.

you luckily had one close friend in high school where her parents took you in.

they were never mean to you but they pitied you.

a young teenage girl left by both parents? how could they not feel bad for you.

you kept your distance from people far more than ever but were still ever grateful for them that they gave you a space to sleep.

as high school ended you already had in your mind that you were signing up for the military. it was an easy choice for you.

you had no childhood to bother to think of what you wanted to become in life and this was the best choice at the moment for someone who didnt want to worry about the future.

days in the military flew by for you.

you spent endless minutes, hours and days focusing your time to learn every weapon possible and the one that pulled your attention the most was a sniper rifle.

a M200 intervention to be exact.

as you took time to learn the weapon more, you became a bit well known around base. people always loved to whisper and gossip. you never understood it but that was their entertainment for the most part on base.

you were a lone wolf, a nobody as most people would say, but you were someone who taught herself how to be highly skilled with your rifle.

you became zero.

you were friendly with very few and most people hated that.

they thought you were a snob but you were far from it. you just wanted to get through life and this was the life that you were living until the end.

as you hit 25 in the military, you noticed that every memory sort of started to become one. you didnt have a different life to balance you out when you would think of the past and it was pretty common that people who experienced emotional and mental abuse that they try to suppress their memories.

you would unintentionally mix memories or easily forget about a day in total.

you felt a bit ashamed that you didnt have a life outside the military but these were the cards you were dealt.

your life changed for ever ever since captain price walked into your life.

ok hello i have found that i have no choice but to introduce you to my "divorced zukka but slightly to the left" headcanon for a modern au. basically, a pre-transitioned zuko and sokka have a one night stand at the end of their senior year of high school, and never speak again. roughly six years later, sokka is starting his job at an elementary school (not a classroom teacher, like technology or something) and meets izumi, who is so sweet and cute and i swear thats the face katara makes when she's annoyed, and one day happens to see her dad pick up and huh he looks and AWFUL lot like that person i went to high school with and OH GOD some quick math brings an idea to mind.

So sokka attempts to confront zuko who is very much NOPE DO NOT TALK TO ME, but finally breaks down after a series of shenanigans that def do not involve mild stalking. but only to admit that yes, izumi is sokka's biological daughter, and would like to leave their interactions at that, except sokka has NO interest in SIMPLY leaving it at that because!!! he has a kid!!! that he knew nothing about!!! for six years!!!

zuko very much would like to continue living his life without sokka bc being a single young parent is hard enough but he has a good routine and good relationship with his daughter and he doesnt need this, this, SPERM DONOR to just come in here and mess everything up! the guy hasnt been there the last six years, there is absolutely no reason for his to get involved now!! BUT sokka absolutely would have been there if zuko had only TOLD HIM, but how was ZUKO supposed to know that, and did zuko really think so little of him?? except it was a one night stand and zuko didnt even realize he was a boy until right after and he originally wasnt even planning to keep izumi, and HOW could he have just given up their CHILD without ever even telling sokka about her and given him a CHANCE to take her, and WE WERE JUST KIDS AND HE WAS SCARED-

its complicated. and involves a lot of trying not to shout around izumi, who is just over the moon that her dad and her favorite teacher know each other outside of school. and there's a lot of heartache over sokka having to come to terms with the fact that yeah, hes not izumis parent, and there's only so much he can do without stepping on zuko's toes, and he only wants what is best for izumi, and zuko seeing that maybe sokka really does want to be all in for izumi even if zuko thinks sokka really doesnt fully understand what that means, and would it be such a bad thing? not that either of them are going to admit this to the other.

so it starts with small things, like sokka being allowed to pay child support (which hes been begging to do since day one), and maybe it turns out that zukos new coworker is sokkas friend and they end up at the same party where they can really see each other interact with izumi, and a chunk zuko's summer child care plans for the summer fall apart so sokka offers to babysit since his summer job is remote which feels BIG but also reallyyyyy too convenient to reject,

and then something bigger happens where izumi gets hurt at school and while sokka is blaming himself he's also panicking bc the hospital wont let him stay with her bc hes not an emergency contact so he steels himself and later tells zuko he wants to make his relationship to izumi legal. hes not going to have a custody fight, he would never ask for that, but he wants his name on her birth certificate and wants his name on her list of emergency contacts, and its the first time zuko understand that sokka 100% knows what he's getting into here and is willing to be in this 100%.

So maybe sokka moves into this "uncle sokka" role, because zuko still refuses to tell izumi that sokka is her other dad, and yeah that hurts, but sokka would rather have part of izumi's life if he can't have all of it. and sokka gets a better look inside their lives and discovers that its HARD being a young single parent, why would zuko have risked everything he worked for to mix in some guy he barely knew who might decide that zuko wasn't good enough and take izumi away? and zuko sees the pain sokka has from missing out on so many key moments of izumi's young life, and the more sokka is proving himself as a second parent, the more guilty zuko feels. they go through some shit together and its more and more evident that sokka doesnt just want to be that fun uncle, but he's ready more than willing to be a PARENT even when it means being the bad guy.

and maybe they start falling for each other a little, because they are starting to have this LIFE together and its not just about izumi anymore its the way zuko rolls his eyes and gets the new fancy ice pack out of the freezer when a limping sokka brings izumi back from the park, and its the way sokka makes zuko genuinely laugh after a long day at work, and its like their lives are getting fully intertwined-

except that they arent. and they couldn't. because if sokka decides its too much. because if zukos good favor runs out. if it didnt work out between them. they couldnt do that to izumi. what they have is good, its fine, (even if its not enough) they dont want to risk anything that could disrupt izumi's life. shes the priority. and sure, she's already asking questions about the two of them, but what if they don't work right in a real relationship? the way things are now, either of them could back out, and everyone would eventually be ok. maybe. except every time they think about the possibility, it seems like they are already too intertwined, and either of them trying to untangle would just be a disaster, so imagine if they HAD to untangle, and-

so they just end up in an awkward stage of sad pining. because theres no way it would actually work out. because it would hurt all of them. and their life has never been better, but it's never hurt this much either.

ok so i didnt realize i could still write this long in an ask, but essentially i am not a masochist like you, and they do figure it out in the end. this could happen a number of ways, such as izumi just announcing that yeah this is my dad and his boyfriend, or zukka doing the "pining make outs that we never talk about until one of us snaps and we decide to let ourselves be fucking happy", or a very funny "we both snap and bone for one wonderful night to get it out of our system and then we dont talk about it" which leads to an accidental second baby where sokka and zuko both laugh and say whelp it must be fate lets do this the right way this time.

the most important thing is that they both forget to tell izumi that sokka is her biological father, so teenage izumi is very shocked and upset that shes just had to learn this from something totally mundane like applying for a passport, and sokka and zuko do the spider man finger pointing of "i thought you told her" "no, you were supposed to tell her" "did we really not tell her?" and its absolutely disgusting how cute they are

There are frequent Sock on the Door references in this show. The thing is you hang a sock on the door to let other people know you're having sex and they won't barge in. Netflix borked the captions big time here, but there is a loud argument between Luke and Jess about the sock joke, with Luke yelling at Jess that there will be "no socks on the door in my house" and I'm just thinking how weird this conversation would sound if you didn't know wtf they were talking about. When he thought Jess was doing much worse things with Shane in his own home, his response was certainly not a pleased one, but it was... different. So it's okay if he hooks up with a skanky blond girl he barely knows, because who cares if he takes a ride on the town bicycle, right? But when it comes to Rory, her purity must be protected at all costs by other adults. Ha, funny how that worked out. I know Luke doesn't think JESS is still a virgin.

The more I'm thinking about this notion that Luke is trying to protect Rory's virginity from Jess, where Rory is a newly minted adult and not even his relative, she's just the daughter of some annoying lady who comes into his diner and doesn't pay for her food, but "Jess doesn't need a guardian" if he'd like to fuck around with random girls of questionable purity, becaue he's a boy I guess, the weirder it sounds. This is just another fiber woven into the rich tapestry of "the young women of gilmore girls who lose their virginity will pay the price with a horrible experience or mental anguish" (Young Lorelai, Rory, Paris, Lane, possibly even Lindsay, god help her).
