The Buff-Tip Moth: the resting posture, shape, and color/pattern of the buff-tip moth allows it to mimic a broken birch twig; the moth's buff-colored head and the patches on its hindwings even resemble freshly-snapped wood
It also definitely tends to look like there's a weird little smiley face in the setae surrounding the moth's head, which is arguably even more striking but for some reason none of the sources I dug up on this species seem to mention that weirdness.
This type of camouflage is generally referred to as a "protective resemblance" -- a form of mimesis in which an animal can avoid being preyed upon by mimicking an inedible/unremarkable aspect of its environment. Many different moths are able to disguise themselves in similar ways, and it is especially common within the family known as Lasiocampidae. Some of the other species that engage in protective resemblance include Gastropacha quercifolia, Gastropacha pardale, Gastropacha populifoli, Euthrix potatori, Euthrix laeta, and Calyptra minuticornis (along with the other members of genus Calyptra). Most of these moths disguise themselves as leaves/foliage.
The buff-tip moth is particularly adept at disguising itself, however, and the fact that it so strongly resembles such a specific object (i.e. not just a dead leaf or a vague piece of foliage -- but a broken twig from a silver birch tree, in particular) makes this disguise seem even more impressive/unique.
This species (Phalera bucephala) can be found throughout the British Isles, mainland Europe, and Asia, with its range extending into Eastern Siberia.

🐻You work at a daycare as a child care worker. The daycare you work at, which is called Apple Castle Learning Center, has a reputation for taking in children with disabilities and being very accessible to them. Due to it being very difficult for a lot of parents to find daycares that have room for disabled children, the majority of the kids that go to Apple Castle Learning Center have some form of disability. Despite the amount of people who use the daycare, however, there is still a pretty low budget. As a recreational assistant at the daycare, you have to find a good way to entertain all of these lovely children in a way that is accessible to as many of them as possible.
🐻 The best thing you have found, so far, is storytime! You have all the kids gather in a circle as you read to them. To make sure that no child is left out, you make sure to show everyone a close up view of the pages so the hard of hearing children can see the pictures and pass around some toy so that the children with visibility issues can have a reference as to the visuals. Is there a cute bear on the page? Hand them a teddy bear! Is there a caterpillar that runs a store? Pass around a caterpillar toy! It may not be much, but it is the best thing you can do for such a wide array of children and such a low budget. You also make sure to give verbal descriptions of the visuals, both to keep the visually impaired children included and to teach the children new words.
🐻 The majority of the children's most favorite books seem to be one's illustrated by some man named Wally Darling. You aren't that well in the loop on who is famous in the illustration industry, but your boss, Mr. Abbott, keeps telling you that he is pretty famous. Apparently, a lot of children love his illustrations, and he has a pretty wide array of styles. Some of his books look like the pictures were drawn by children, themselves, with cute smiley faces and puppy dogs. Others will have very detailed pictures of animals. He tends to illustrate for books aimed at children in preschool all through elementary.
🐻 So when you learn that Mr. Darling is going to be visiting a library in town, you just have to go. He's, apparently, going to be signing books and everything! You feel like, since the kids love his books so much, getting one of the books signed will make them very happy. Some of the children have been expressing, recently, that they can tell that they are different than other kids and it makes them feel bad. Especially the ones who go to school. It might help them feel a bit better if the kids know that he cares for them! After all, he seems like a very loving guy, from what Mr. Abbott has said... Though, you haven't met the guy yourself, so you just have to hope.
🐻 Once the day arrives, you make sure to try to get there early. Thankfully, Mr. Abbott understood what you were trying to do and let you take the day off to get there quickly. Even though you arrived about an hour early, it is still very crowded with parents and their children who are waiting to see him arrive.
🐻 A few people recognize you and your uniform, just a little pin with the daycare logo and a small apron where you hold crayons, and talk to you until he arrives. To your shock, when you see his car pull in, it's not that fancy looking. It looks like any old car on the street. If it weren't for children screaming in excitement at his arrival, you wouldn't have noticed.
🐻 Then comes the stampede of little kids sprinting to see him, followed by their parents running to grab them, shouting "Timmy, calm down!" "Don't rush!" "Say you're sorry, you know it is wrong to push people!" You are frozen still from surprise. You never would've expected little kids to be this excited about some random guy who draws pictures. Well, not some RANDOM guy... it's just kinda like... they have never seen him, before? Just his pictures. Most of the books the daycare owns don't even have a picture of him in the back of the book.
🐻 You see him come out of the car, a small child that had managed to avoid the hands of his parents hanging from his arm like it is a branch. You would expect him to be upset that some random kid just grabbed him, but no. He has a large grin on his face, as if it was the best thing that could've happened today. He then holds the child, handing him to his parents as he says "I am so happy you all came early! Please, settle down, though! This is a library, after all!" He then chuckles, watching as all the children turn to each other, placing their fingers on their lips as they let out loud "SHHHHHHHHH"'s.
🐻 It takes a while for him to get everything set up, but it is amazing to watch. You feel very weird just watching him from time to time, burying your face in a book to try to hide it. He's just so... weird? Like, not "weird" as in bad, but "weird" as in enjoyably eccentric. You can't take your eyes off of him. If he were on a children's show as a host, you could see it making millions. He also isn't that bad looking, either. He's kinda cute-
🐻"Do you need something?" Your face lights up when he says that, realizing that he has noticed you. You point to yourself, just to be sure. He grins, pointing at you as he says "Of course, you. I noticed you staring quite a while ago. I don't mind, I know I sound strange."
🐻 You panic, standing up and walking over to him as you clarify "No! No, it isn't that! I work with a lot of kids who have a flat affect in their voice. I don't find it weird at all! I just umm... I thought you might need help! You seem to be setting a lot up!"
🐻 His eyes widen, before he smiles "Oh, you didn't mean- Wait, really? You work with kids that sound like me? Where do you work?" You point to your pin "I work at the Apple Castle Learning Center. It's a daycare, with a lot of the kids there having varying levels of disability. From physical disabilities, like a missing limb, blindness, or deafness, to more neurological ones like autism, down syndrome or ADHD. I actually came here to get a book signed for the daycare. I thought that-"
🐻 His face lights up, looking at the book in your hands. He quickly snatches it, causing you to let out a slight gasp from shock. He looks around, almost like he is trying to hide something, before quickly signing it. He then takes out a small slip of paper, writing something on it and slipping it into the book. He hands it back to you, whispering "Here. You get to have a signature early. I always like to show support for places willing to care for kids, no matter the differences they have. I know that if I made you wait for the line, you would be lost and waiting for hours. Now, go on! Show those kids the book! I want you to see how happy you made them from going out of your way to get a signature from me!"
🐻 You can practically feel yourself tearing up from joy! You shake his hand, saying "Thank you so much! You are so kind! I'll be sure to let them know what you said, too!" You then sprint out to your car, making sure to be quick to get to the daycare as fast as possible.
🐻 As you sit in the driver's seat, catching your breath, before opening up the book to look at the signature. In your joy, you forgot that he slipped a paper in there, as it drops to the floor. Picking it up, to your surprise, you see a phone number. There is a little note on the side, saying "Call me! I'd be happy to visit the daycare!" with a little, smiling winky face drawn next to it.
🐻 You feel your face grow red, again. He gave you his number? Yes, it is probably just to visit the daycare, but it is still shocking, nontheless. You like, JUST met him, after all. You smile, putting the paper in your pocket, as you head over to the daycare.

He sucks at puzzles. He’s smart and tactical, but puzzles are on another level of difficulty for him.
He likes doodling a lot. If he has a pen and a surface to draw on, he will sketch a small smiley or a caterpillar. It has become such a habit that he doesn’t even think about it when he does it. It got so bad that once, Keegan called him out on it mid-doodle, leaving Logan embarrassed for a week.
He loves the ocean, but beaches annoy him. He hates sand. (I firmly believe his hate for them is from Hesh throwing sand in his face as children.)
He has a picture of him and Hesh as kids in his wallet. He feels calmer when he looks at it, getting into the habit of peeking at it when stressed.
He’s an avid Deftones enjoyer. He loves Beware and Diamond Eyes.
He likes caramel-scented things, but he doesn’t like the taste of it.
He has some insane dirt on Elias, and, of course, Hesh knows all of it.
For some odd reason, he’s phenomenal at parallel parking.

He got so much action when he was a teenager/young adult. He tells Logan and Hesh to “live a little” so they can experience that life, too.
He doesn’t listen to music often, but when he does, he listens to either Korn or Chris Isaak.
He adores Riley, sometimes stealing him from Hesh without warning.

He secretly enjoys ASMR. It helps him unwind and de-stress, but not sleep, surprisingly.

He loves grocery shopping.
He talks to himself a lot. He’s antisocial and quiet around others, but when Keegan’s alone, he keeps having full-on conversations with himself. Merrick caught him doing it once - he never brought it up again.
He enjoys lasagna a bit too much.
He had a motorcycle phase as a young adult. It got so bad he learned how to do a wheelie on them, but his love for them has died down in the many years he’s been alive.

I know all the puppets' personalities are essentially the same, but they clearly don't act like children's characters anymore (like wallys fuck you to fionn in that one ask;I know it was a joke but still)
When wally watches old wh reruns, or when any of the others see any, I feel like they'd get reeeallly embarrassed. And like, identity-crisissy seeing how they were before they gained sentience

Abgbgfnghf I mean you're not wrong - they keep their original personalities but as the days go on they realise they've actually changed a lot from who they were before they gained sentience...
Wally, still the friendliest neighbour you could meet and still a lover of the arts, but everything he went through changed him from a once calm and silly puppet to a tired, traumatised puppet who feels responsible for their predicament, and suffers from the betrayal of his own Home.
Barnaby still loves to tell jokes and act the sly, silly scallywag he is, but inside is an unshakeable paranoia, that he might lose his neighbours and best friend for real this time, and he doesn't want that to happen. He's already lost his mama technically, and that's bad enough!
Still joyful and playful, Julie feels skittish and restricted however, in a world that sees adults as those who have to be serious, hard money making machines, where fun is looked down upon. On top of that she has technically lost her siblings.
Frank remains knowledgable and stoic, his love for butterflies never dying, but inside he hates the sudden change. He didn't want to leave Home, he didn't want it to go; thus he is prone to meltdowns every now and then.
Eddie's heart is still of gold, still clumsy as can be yet forever well meaning, but after seeing Home's carnage, he feels kind of lost. His dear post office was ripped away from him, and his dearest Frank was nearly taken too, so he will never let Frank out of his sight, no matter how overbearing he seems.
Friendly clerk Howdy remains the fast talking, smiley caterpillar he always was, and even gets a chance to let loose in the human world, but like Eddie, he so dearly misses his little bodega, even if it nearly hurt him. He now feels responsible for Frank and Eddie's behaviour, trying to keep them in check, and oh how can dealing with Fionn grind his sanity.
Once a performer, always a performer: Sally always likes to make little plays to keep everyone happy, and will make all the foolproof plans in the world to keep them safe from any dangerous humans. However even the most skilled actress can tucker herself out with people pleasing through acting, and like Howdy, arguing with Fionn puts a toll on you.
Poppy is definitely the most careful neighbour, always looking out for her friends and being there for them always. But after travelling to a whole new world, wouldn't your nerves and worries increase tenfold? Hers certainly did, bumbling and whimpering at anything bad that might happen, feeling like a burden due to her cautious nature.
Watching their old shows brings back a sad mix of hopelessness, longing and nostalgia - they may not be able to go back, it seems, but at least they can still experience their old lives one way or another, even with the occasional embarrassment at their quirks in episodes!

caregiver hero headcanons! (with a regressor that uses a lot of gear)
•hero is a very patient and kind caregiver! he’s always looking out for you and his voice softens when he speaks to you, in a way that it does for no one else
•he’ll do a bunch of cheesy things, like waking you up from a nap with a stuffie attack, or arranging your meals to look silly (making a smiley face with blueberries, using cut in half sandwiches for cat ears, cooking pancakes into hearts, etc.)
•speaking of which— you would never go hungry around hero! he makes three meals a day and probably knows every snack recipe ever... somehow...
•he loves using pet names for you!! his favorite are honey, sweetheart and baby.
•hero wouldn’t mind that you used a lot of gear! he’s happy that you have things that help you and make you feel more comfortable in your regression.
•it makes it easier for him to bring spare items of things! like if you slipped away from home or something. he has a bag of little gear in a nonchalant pocket of his car, so if you ever needed a paci, plushie, or toy— you’ve got it!
•would absolutely help you shop for any little gear. unfortunately, he doesn’t trust you with online shopping when you’re regressed, so he always makes sure he’s there to supervise haha!
•he’ll tell you which items he thinks look nice and help you with keywords that help you find exactly what you’re looking for!
•hero would do any activity you wanted when regressed! you wanted to play tag? you two are running in the backyard! you want to bake cookies? he’s got an apron on before you can even get to the kitchen. you want to do his makeup/play dress up? doll him up, kiddo! he’s got no shame about it and he loves spending time with you <3
•sometimes, he’ll come home from a grocery trip with a few little items for you. he knows how much they mean to you and he’s sure to pick out color schemes, textures, and items you really like!
•i think he would be a very comforting caregiver. if you tripped and scraped your knee, he’d calmly clean it up and stick a band-aid on you. if you ever ended up regressing from stress or discomfort, he would ask if he could hold you before wrapping his arms around you if you said yes, hushing you gently and rubbing your back.
•on the same topic, i think he’d be pretty physically affectionate! he understands if you don’t want him to touch you or if you’re sometimes just not up for it, but if you are, then trust that he’ll be kissing your cheek, holding your hand and never turning down cuddles <3
•definitely reads you bedtime stories. he’ll sit at the edge of your bed/curl up beside you and read you a story. he’s particularly fond of goodnight moon and the very hungry caterpillar!
•he’d gently remind you about things, like to not put your fingers in your mouth and instead ask him for a paci, or when you should maybe stop eating sugar so you don’t get a stomach-ache
•overall, hero is a very sweet caregiver. he only wants the best for you and will always be there if you need anything. he loves you very much <3

Ok I've only finished the first 3 episodes
But I'm simultaneously in love and disappointed. I think I just don't like how they've rushed everything. Combe Carey took 10 minutes and it wasn't even exciting.
Here are my thoughts while watching:
Why are they drinking beer?
And where is Lockwood's smiley giraffe?
And Barnes caterpillar mustache?
The animation is kinda cool. Death glows are kinda a silly but i like them.
I also really like how they did Lucy's talent.
I actually like Norri. Also ghost lock is nothing like i imagined or ghost touch.
Why are the monks satanic?
I liked the Fittes kid ghost the best.
Also I REALLY can't stand DEPRAC. Where is my reluctant dad Barnes? Who is Wade and why is she so vindictive?
Why does Lucy wander around the house in a towel????
Why did she faint hearing the skull?
Why is the locket a ring? To make it go faster?
So overall I liked/enjoyed it. I just have many questions. Can't wait to finish after lunch.

omg our minds !! — Ari tags along with his brother and his brother’s wife for their son’s little art shows 🥹 it’s so cute, all of their work is displayed with little sentences and their names underneath. Since it’s by kids, a lot of the descriptions are like: “crayon on paper. a tree, dog, and butterfly because I like summer” or “paint on paper. giant caterpillar with sunglasses because he’s cool.”
and what do you know !! you’re there (ofc bc you work there) and Ari is determined to (maybe shamefully) uses this opportunity to get to know you. He’s given up on meeting people online and thought he gave up on meeting people ‘normally’ but you spark hope that maybe there’s still a little love out there for a big hunky beefy fella like him 🥺🥺

I feel like throwing out random Lobotomy Corporation headcanons for now (sick, and tired but I want to do something but can't draw. It's hell!) and I have a ton, can't be fixated on a game for two years and expect me NOT to have Thoughts!!! /lh
• The facility recognizes the difference between sentience and sapience. Every Abnormality has some sense of sentience, but only a few have sapience. Sapient Abnormalities, no matter their danger classification, are considered the most dangerous of their specific class.
• Nothing There is an interesting case, because it's gaining sapience. If this happens, and it begins to full recognize itself as something, things are...well, they're gonna get a hell of a lot harder :)
• As it stands, it's recently documented that child Abnormalities grow and develop similarly to human children (they can't bring actual kids in to test some theories; moral, legal, and ethical reasons and mumbo jumbo /lh.)
• Abnormalities know of one another, but most aren't allowed to see one another, for safety reasons. They don't need another case like Yin/Yang, or Red/Wolf.
• The Express Train to Hell is a living being, of a sort. The ticketmaster in the booth is something like an extension of the train itself, and controls it even though they're considered separate entities. It's something like a hivemind.
• Queen Bee's drones are very very similar to actual bees. They follow pheromones, can be drawn to certain colors and smells, and become inactive in dark rooms. Once this was discovered, suppressing them has become much easier (although employees still have to worry about spores.)
• Funeral of the Dead Butterflies escapes to help other employees meet their end faster. He does it out of no malice, but sees in most of them that their roads lead to a short end anyway; many of which are gruesome and bloody. He wants to make it painless for them — his butterflies are much gentler than gunshots or being gored.
• The Mountain of Smiling Bodies goes by a LOT of names. Employees give it both serious nicknames (Murderer, the Mountain, the Black Tar Beast) and way less morbid ("that bitch", Smiley, The Very Bloody Caterpillar.) It also has it's name frequently shortened to just MoSB for convenience.
• MoSB is also voracious. Its body is constantly decaying, liquefying and falling apart. It needs to consume huge portions of meat on a daily basis just to keep its form, which also helps suppress its chances of breaching. However bringing food in is still extremely risky; the meat smell tends to rub off on the handler and MoSB has had more than one occasion where it's mistaken an agent for another part of its food.
• Der Freischütz is very cold. Fitting, given how incredibly hard it is for him to feel much of anything as well. Cold and distant to others, while also being trigger happy with the rifle the old Devil had given him. He relishes in being the new Devil, and uses that power more than he should.
• Most Sephirot have a secret favorite Abnormality. Malkuth's is the Express Train since she likes it's punctuality; Netzach likes Wellcheers; Yesod finds admiration in both the Plague Doctor/Whitenight and One Sin for their order; Hod likes Melting Love (even if she wishes they could stop infecting agents!); Chesed with his attitude has grown a fondness for any child Abnormality (but especially Child of the Galaxy); Hokma is surprisingly a fan of Der Freischütz! He reminds him of an older era from when he was younger.
• Gebura loathes Abnormalities, and Binah simply doesn't care about them enough to form favorites.
• Yesod has undiagnosed but chronic OCD. It's developed into him getting psychotic symptoms that still linger even in his robot form.
• Chesed also has depression, but is recovering from that. His lax attitude is his way of finding light even in the bad situations of Lobotomy Corporation because he doesn't want to give in to the horrors of the workplace.

Look closely at what they are
Trying to move on like nothing happened involving you and eating mysterious items, you pick up another one from the opening.
It’s a worm.
It resembles a cartoon caterpillar more than anything, what with its silly smiley-face, big comma-like antennae, and circular segmented body.
It’s hue is a gradient of white slowing into a gradual violet, down near the last segment.
In fact, the color of the worm reminds you of a certain vegetable with the same palette….
(What vegetable does the worm’s purple-white colors remind you of?)
