DP x DC Prompt: "Next Generation"
Okay, so, anyone even tangibly into DC knows the whole Gotham War arc really assassinated Bruce's character
But it's juicy fic material
After the whole adrenaline-induced panic episode, Jason leaves Gotham. He's done. He's done with Bruce, with Batman, with everything. And yeah, it was a little satisfying to hear about Nightwing beating Batman into the ground (over Jason! He might have wept a little at that) but it's not worth it to stay anymore
So he leaves
He travels for a bit, trying to figure out who he is without the whole Red Hood thing. Decides to go to college. Under a fake name, of course, he's got to make sure Batman can't find him. Jack sounds close enough to his real name. He chooses Fenton on a whim, he's seen it somewhere and it stuck.
Jack Fenton goes to college. He makes a friend. Falls in love, even. He marries, settles in a small town somewhere in the Midwest, and has two children whom he loves more than anything. Life is good, and he's happy
Until years later, Amity Park gets its own ghostly hero and Jack only has to look at him once to recognise him, and well, what's a father supposed to do?
Not fuck with his son's fear responses, that's for sure
He may not have been Red Hood in years, but he's not going to let his son do this alone.

Danny was pissed. He was chilling in the Speedforce, waiting on his dad—the Flash—to show up when he felt something shift around him. He exited the speedforce to find that the timeline had changed again, and he had been written out of the timeline. He technically was a time anomaly now, and didn’t exist. So he talked to Clockwork, a ghost he’d gotten to know extremely well after Danny’s creation.
Danny was a clone of the Flash and Green Lantern(Hal Jordan) as part of an experiment that Lex Luthor had taken prior to cloning Superboy. Lex had wanted to know if the power ring was able to transmit anything genetically (it couldn’t. It was a wearable weapon, not a genetic thing.) but Danny had inherited Flash’s superspeed, so he wasn’t a complete loss. Danny wasn’t sure if he looked more like either man, considering they both wore masks. He had brown hair and green eyes. Beyond that, he tanned well, was tall for his age, and packed on muscle far easier than the Flash did. He hadn’t ever seen either man out of the costume.
After a talk with Clockwork, he decided he was just going to force his way back into his Dad’s life. Both of them, if possible. He arrived years before his creation by mistake, right near the start of the Justice League. By his estimates, the team had only been formed for a year before he’d arrived. It was strange; he both didn’t exist and was from the future. He guessed that it was around nine years before his birth, and since he was technically six months old, he was 9 years in the past. Thinking about this was going to give him a headache.
The Justice League was severely mistrustful of each other. They didn’t go out of their way for teamups, didn’t have weekly meetings, and almost pretended if the other members didn’t exist. The most recluse of them was Batman, of course. If any hero set foot in Gotham, they were booted out before they even got to downtown. Danny highly suspected Batman had the entire city on camera. The situation was weirding him out more than before. What had happened to the team?! He was used to everyone being one big family, and even the sidekicks having their own teams… speaking of sidekicks, why was Robin so small?! Wait a minute, that wasn’t the third Robin that he was used to, that was the first Robin! Baby Nightwing!
Thankfully for him, he still had his costume on this entire time as he zipped around the country, spying on the younger members of the Justice League. It was surreal watching everyone try to capture him, but he wasn’t going to be caught that easily!
Eventually his presence forced the Justice League into another teamup. Batman laid the trap out, and Flash lured him into it. The plan was so beautiful that he didn’t even realize it was a trap until he was caught in it. Green Lantern took off Danny’s mask, and for the first time, he looked at his fathers without a mask. They didn’t make the connection to him right away. It wasn’t until Wonder Woman’s lasso made its way around his wrist that the truth finally came out.
“Who are you?” Wonder Woman asked.
“Oof , hard question—ow ow oww—I’m being honest!” He struggled against the lasso as it started to burn him. “My designation was Dn-y, I go by Danny, though. I’m a clone.”
“Of who?” Batman demanded.
“Flash and Green Lantern.” The lasso was glowing brightly, indicating that he was telling the truth.
“How did you escape?” Flash asked.
He didn’t answer right away. He was trying to think about how to phrase the whole time traveling—timeline erasure thing when the lasso started to burn him again. “Ow ow! Sorry, I’m thinking! Ow! Turn down the settings on that thing, holy shit—okay, okay.” He winced, his words coming out in one breath as he quickly talked, “What do you know about time travel?”
Diana’s eyebrows were rising. “How are you able to resist the lasso for so long?”
“I’m not really resisting it.” He answered, noting the obvious deflect of his last question, “I just-oww—okay! My mind moves too fast for me to put into words sometimes and it makes me stop to think about it, but like, I’m not good at controlling the speed in which I speak all the time—owww make this thing stop burning me! I’m speaking honestly!”
Diana revoked the lasso, and he rubbed his wrist where his costume was starting to singe. He was still trapped in an anti-speedster prison, so it wasn’t exactly like he was going anywhere anyway.
“Why were you asking about time travel?” Batman asked.
“Based on the crickets chirping I heard earlier, that leads me to believe you guys haven’t had any experience in it yet.” He leaned against the wall of the prison, wincing as it shocked him with electricity. “Seriously? How paranoid are you, Batman?” He rubbed his shoulder. “Honestly, I don’t know what I was expecting with you people, but I feel so attacked right now.”
“So we have experience with it in the future?” Superman piped up.
“Yeah?” His tone of voice equated to a ‘duh’ tone. “Why would I ask what you knew if I wasn’t from the future?”
“How far in the future are you from?” Green Lantern asked.
“Nine years, maybe close to ten? Timelines are weird. I’m technically six months old, but at the same time I’m sixteen. Cloning is odd, but I was like, the first clone ever, so I don’t really have a basis for this sort of thing, if you catch my drift.” He shrugged. He seemed like he talked a lot more than the heroes did, but he didn’t know if that was because he was a chatterbox, or because they weren’t comfortable in each other’s presence. Either way, the silence was odd to him.
“How did you end up here?” Batman asked.
“Honestly? I don’t fully know. Don’t give me that look, Diana! I’m telling the truth.” He added quickly as Diana fingered her lasso again. “All I know is one minute, I’m chilling in the Speedforce, and the next, the timeline is changed and I’m nine years too early for my birth. You’d think the timeline would at least have the decency to spit me out in my own year, but nooo, it wanted to—“
“What’s the Speedforce?” Superman interrupted.
He tilted his head at Superman’s question, then turned to the Flash. “How long have you had your powers?”
Flash shifted uncomfortably. “Two years.”
“Oh boy.” Danny’s green eyes widened. “You don’t know anything about them, do you?”
“I do know things!” Flash deflected, “My suit doesn’t catch on fire anymore! I can run up to Mach 2! I can get from either end of the country in thirty minutes!”
He groaned loudly. “Oh no. Oh no.” He chewed on his thumb, trying to recall everything he’d learned about his powers from his Flash. While he hadn’t learned his or Green Lantern’s identity yet, he knew almost everything about their hero personas and a lot of personal information. They were just worried of the Cadmus connection and didn’t want their identity to fall into the wrong hands if they still could see inside of Danny’s head.
“What’s wrong?” Diana asked.
“Okay.” He ran his hands through his brown hair, making it spike up. “Hypothetically—“ he cut himself off as Batman glared at him. “Okay, totally real, but uh, Flash, let’s just say that I’m faster than you right now. A lot faster.”
“How much?” Flash took a step forward, obviously curious.
“From what we can tell, I’ve topped out at Mach nine.” He responded with a dry laugh, “But your speed was still a lot faster than mine. You’d never tell me what it was. I’m still growing though, and I’m getting faster. I’m able to beat my precious time by almost double each time we test. But my situation was complicated, and things were happening, and it was a mess.”
“Like what?” Superman asked.
“World war three. I think?” He rubbed the back of his neck, a gesture that he had picked up from Green Lantern, “Things got complicated. That’s why I was going to wait for…” his eyebrows scrunched together as the last piece of the puzzle clicked into place. “It was you!” He turned to Flash. “You!” He jabbed a finger at the speedster. “You set this up! You set ME up!”
The heroes took fighting stances, but Superman took a step forward, blocking them from Danny. “What are you talking about?”
“Okay okay.” He was trying to calm down his anger, but he had been told by Green Lantern in the past that he had inherited the man’s anger issues. “Let me start at the beginning. This is going to be a long story, you might want to take a seat.”
Nobody moved, but everyone was tense.
“Or not. Okay. So my creation starts with Lex Luthor.” He noticed Superman stiffen. “He used me as his trial, if you will. Once he got a successful attempt at cloning—me—he moved onto his real target. Cloning Superman.” Danny’s green eyes hovered onto Superman’s blue ones. “He was successful.”
“What happened?” Superman’s voice was unnaturally quiet.
“Well, at first, Conner wasn’t showing that he had all the powers of Superman. So Lex tossed him aside and tried again. The second attempt was more successful than the first. But cloning Kryptonian dna was hard, I guess.” He shrugged. “The second clone lacked basic emotions. Empathy, remorse… it made him the perfect little weapon for Lex. But eventually, the clone’s anger and Lex’s greed got to a point of no return. Lex was elected President of the United States and uh…you can probably see where this is going, right? While the fighting hadn’t like…’officially’ started,” He used his fingers to create air quotes around the word ‘officially’, “Things were getting tense. See, we couldn’t take the clone down because Lex had wrote out the Kryptonite deficiency out of his weakness. And the clone had all the strength of Superman and none of his remorse…”
Superman looked pale. “I see.”
“So Flash and I came up with a plan.” He turned back to his father, “We were going to travel into the next dimension for help. From what we could tell, that dimension was full of god-like beings, and one of them actually helped me out earlier! But for a lot of them, they ask for a price for their help. But anyway, Flash and I were going to take our case to the King and plead for help. I was waiting for Flash when the timeline reset and I found out that not only did I not exist, but I was nine years too early.”
“What are you going to do now?” Green Lantern asked.
“Dunno,” His voice dropped as the reality hit him. He wasn’t going home—his home didn’t exist anymore.

Alfred's Boy Part 3
Bruce rarely had a full night's rest. In fact, he thinks that it's been a full two years since he last had more than eight hours of consistent slumber. Unlike Tim, who just forgo the recommended sleeping amount, Bruce found time to take naps throughout the day because, as much as he hates to admit it, he's not as young as he used to be.
This is why Bruce is rather displeased to be awoken when he finds himself with a chance to have a full night's rest. It felt like he barely closed his eyes at the tender time of nine o clock pm- with no cases waiting for him, his children agreeing to take his patrols, and the wonderful tea that Danny had poured him to help with backpain-he thought nothing would ruin it.
He forgot he had children for a moment.
At three in the morning, he woke to Tim, half in his Red Robin uniform, crouching like a cat about to leap, his unmasked face staring a few inches away from Bruce's nose. It took everything in Bruce to not react on instinct and take a swing at his son.
He only just bites back the scream by sheer willpower. His son doesn't seem to notice his heart trying to leap out of his chest as the boy leans back, sitting on the pillow Bruce likes to use to build a protective wall against the other side of the floor.
Tim's voice was raspy with sleep and maybe even hints of madness. "Oh good, you're awake. I have an emergency."
"Wha?" Bruce asks, half unsure if he is hallucinating. "What's wrong."
"Danny found his photo album."
"Danny has a photo album?"
"Yes. I made it. I took all the pictures."
"Okay? Why is that bad, chum? Was it supposed to be a surprise present for him?"
Tim tilts his head, his somewhat unfocused eyes staring at Bruce, and for one moment, he wonders if Tim got a concussion out in the field. He disregards the idea a moment later. Alfred would have notified him, and if not, Danny wouldn't allow Tim to wander alone.
Bruce could still remember Duke's wide eye awe as Danny followed him around when he got hit a little too hard a few weeks ago. The butler in training had even slept in his room- on the floor on an air mattress- and Duke had looked mortified and smug for as long as it took to get over his injury.
Alfred had to make it very clear no one was allowed to deliberately get a concussion to his other love-struck children.
Tim's nose wrinkles as a slight blush appears on his high cheeks. "No. He didn't know I was taking pictures of him. That's why it's bad he found the album. "
Bruce closes his eyes. He loves his son, he really does, but he can't handle this right now. He takes a few blissful seconds to pretend he never became a single dad of nine before he pushes his eyelids apart to give one of his middle children a firm scolding. "Tim, chum, the light of my life, that's a crime."
"It's not! I didn't follow him around outside the manor." Tim argues.
Bruce reaches a hand up to rub the space between his eyes. "Tim, you can't just take pictures of people without asking them."
"Why not? I've done it before. To you, Dick, Jason, Steph, Alfred, Damian, Harper, Cullen, Duke, and Cass, but she usually catches me and poses so it doesn't get her in her authentic state of being like I usually want to get but-" Tim says, counting the people on his figures before he seems to realize that he was sidetracked and shakes his head. He gives Bruce a pitiful pout. "He doesn't even mind. He said they were lovely and artistic!"
Of course, Danny wouldn't even blink at a creepy photo album of himself hidden in one of his employer's rooms. That boy didn't care that he found the Batcave while dusting, so taking everything in stride was a default.
"Tim, it's still not okay. You have to ask him from now on if you can take pictures." He holds up a hand when Tim opens his mouth to no doubt argue. "You can ask him if you can take pictures of him throughout the day to capture his authentic side without it being a crime. Now explain what the emergency really is."
Tim's teeth snapped close with a snap. "That was the emergency. He found it, and now I have to leave the country. Go underground for a few months. Maybe fake my death."
"You literally don't have to do any of that. Danny said it was okay right? He isn't one to sugarcoat things. He wouldn't claim it was fine if he didn't feel that way."
"No, Bruce, you don't understand. He already thinks I can't swim. Now he finds a book of him covered in hearts? Tim Drake needs to die." Tim says, dragging his hands down his face, and Bruce flips the covers back.
Gesturing to them, he deadpans. "Tim Drake needs to sleep."
"But my fake death needs to be planned-"
"Cullen and Harper get back tomorrow. Do you want to stress Danny more by adding your fake death to this?" Bruce watches the moment his argument wins because it's as if all fight leaves Tim's body, and his son slumps to the side. His head falls on a pillow, and he's already fast asleep.
He had been running on fumes again, it seemed.
Sighing, Bruce man hands his son into a more comfortable position, unclips his cape, and tucks the blankets around his son's shoulders. He settles back into his side of his bed- Ever since Dick came to live with him, Bruce had, over the years, claimed the right side of the bed so the left would always be open for any of his children suffering from nightmares.
He closes his eyes; Tim's peaceful face snuggling into Bruce's softest pillow reminded him why he became a single father of nine. His heart swells with love as he gives back into sleep's warm arms.
A few seconds later, his door is kicked open by Harper. She puts all her lungs into her greeting. "What's up, Old man! Who's the new kid!?"
Bruce glances at his clock and realizes it's now eight in the morning. Harper and Cullen had arrived hours earlier than planned- probably because Harper had refused to sleep and completed the drive home. He looks at Tim and finds his son curled into a ball, still dead to the world.
"That's Danny," He says in a hushed voice, gesturing to her adoptive brother. When Harper sees Tim, she visibly quiets, ensuring her heavy metal boots don't stomp on the ground as she walks over to him. "He's Alfred's foster son. He was removed from his last home because his parents were dangerous to his safety. Alfred will house him as a favor for his old contact. The contact code name is Clockwork. Danny talks about him a lot so you may hear that name for a while."
"Whoa. " She says, sobering up. Bruce can see memories of her birth father playing behind her eyes as she frowns. "That's shitty. Poor guy, no wonder he seemed sad to the bone."
"You met him?"
"Yeah, he jumped Cullen and me in the main hallway."
Bruce's mind buffers for a second. "What?"
"I know! The dude has skill, but it makes sense if he is Alfred's. He thought we were breaking in and took us out before I realized we were in danger. Once he got a good look at our faces, though, he practically threw up apologizing." She pauses. "Is he straight?"
No. Bruce thinks feeling cold, not another one.
"I believe he's bi. Why?"
Harper shrugs, smiling. "I think Cullen may have a crush on him. I was iffy about it since I thought he was another of your kids. You technically aren't our dad since I'm still Cullen's guardian, but you let us live here for free, so you like a dad? Glad it's not an issue."
Bruce wants to cry. What was it with Danny and seducing his children (in the eyes of the law or not, Cullen is Bruce's boy)? "There may be an issue. See, Danny has a few admires right now and he's- "
"That sounds like your issue, not a Cullen issue," Harper says, narrowing her eyes. Bruce winces when he notices her arms crossing over her chest as when firmly plants her feet a few inches apart. She only stands like that when she's protective of Cullen, which means she finds his comment offensive.
"I'm not saying Cullen doesn't have a chance." Bruce corrects realizing where the issue was. Harper's arms loosen slightly. "I just meant that right now, Danny isn't in the right mental state to be dating."
Harper's arms drop. "Yeah, I wasn't interested in dating after I became emancipated, either. Had a lot going on. I'll talk to Cullen about it. Make sure he gives Danny space."
Finally, one of his kids is on his side! "Thank you, Harper."
She waves a hand dismissively. "Don't mention it. Hey, how did Clockwork and Alfred meet anyway?"
Bruce shrugs. "I never asked."
"Why?"
"It's Alfred. " He says like that is an explanation enough, and it is. Harper accepts it as such, nodding along. She tilts her head back and mentions wanting to shower, then take a long nap. She leaves the room as silent as a shadow, but not before telling him Danny and Cullen are making pancakes for everyone.
Bruce doesn't want to get up, but he must be the period romance villain and rip his son away from the staff. He slips out of bed with great effort and prepares for the day. A quick bathroom break, and a change into a casual suit, lead to Bruce walking down to the kitchen.
There he spots Danny smiling gently at Cullen, who is in an excited rant about his latest reality tv show. Around them is a spread of breakfast foods- Danny always cooks the food of various cultural backgrounds. He apparently learned from Clockwork and found it important everyone had at least one piece of home per meal.
It's heartwarming domestic. Bruce needs to ruin it.
"How did Alfred and Clockwork meet?" Cullen asks, stopping Bruce from dramatically bursting into the room. It's mostly because he has been wondering the same thing for weeks, and Danny seems to know.
"Alfred got haunted when he picked up Clockwork's pocket watch in an antique store," Danny responds.
That answer didn't explain anything. In fact, it just created more questions. Bruce wants to wait a little more, see if Danny adds more information, but he watches as the bulter in training places strawberries on heart-shaped pancakes and then drizzles chocolate. He puts the plate in front of Cullen, and the other teenager swoons.
Yeah, Bruce needs to stop that.
"Good morning, boys." He calls, watching the two turn to him. They each give him a greeting, but Danny is noticeably more polite. Danny moves away from Cullen to serve Bruce. He adds blood pudding alongside his Batarang-shaped pancakes as Cullen sulks about losing Danny's attention. Bruce takes a bit of those first, closing his eyes in bliss.
Blood pudding, just like Alfred used to make.
Speaking of Alfred, his loyal butler arrives then. Seems like Bruce wasn't the only one catching up on a night of undisruptive sleep. His oldest friend gives both boys a once over, Danny pouring tea and milk and Cullen staring at him lovingly- and raises a brow, leaning down to whisper in Bruce's ear.
"I say, it seems Danny has collected another one."
"Please don't."
"Denial will not make it less true. It's how I wound up haunted."
"Alfred, what does that mean?"

Bring Me Home Arc 2 Part 6
It's Wednesday! (I'm ignoring the clock that says it's 2 AM. It's totally still Wednesday. I haven't gone to bed yet which means it can't be Thursday.)
So, since it's obviously still Wednesday, it's time for another WIP Wednesday. We're getting into the real meat of the plot of this arc with this update! And now you'll maybe start to see where I'm gonna take this.
Story Summary: Tim and Danny are both neglected by parents who care more about their work than their families. They deal with this by spending too much time online and find each other playing MMORPGs. They keep up their friendship as Tim becomes Robin and Danny becomes Phantom and don't bother keeping secrets from each other.

And that was when a large, swirling-green gash opened up in the night sky and dozens of ghosts started pouring through.
“Oh man!” exclaimed Sam as they watched the ghosts wreak havoc on the street. “I’ve never seen this many ghosts attack at once!”
Danny held out his thermos as he stared. “I’m gonna need a bigger thermos.”
The ghosts all appeared to be wearing uniforms and held batons as they attacked civilians and police indiscriminately.
“Uh, Danny?” asked Tim. “Should we call in back up?”
“No!” One of the ghosts got close to their group and Danny quickly sucked it into the thermos, dropping Jazz’s milkshake in the process. “Dammit. Absolutely not. It’s bad enough with three metas here. No more.”
Across the street, they saw a couple running from three of the invaders. One of the ghosts turned invisible and entered the body of the man who went stiff before sprinting to catch up to his partner and grabbing her to hold her still.
Then one of the other ghosts turned a garbage can over the both of them. The one overshadowing the man left his body, leaving the humans crying and covered in garbage as the ghosts laughed.
“I see,” said Tim. “How do we protect Bart, Cassie, and Conner?”
“You’re metas?” asked Sam.
Cassie nodded. “Yeah, nothing special, but… I don’t want to see what a ghost could do with my powers.”
“Let’s get back to my place. My parents might be crazy, but the ghost shield works. And then we can make a plan.”
Tim nodded. “I’ll lead. Kon, Bart, Cassie, you three need to stay in the middle. Sam, Tucker, you watch our sides and Danny, take up the rear. Capture any ghosts that try to approach us.”
Amity, even during a ghost invasion, was much easier to navigate than Gotham and Tim was able to lead them back to Danny’s house without getting lost. Every scream made him want to stop and help, though. He hated being useless.
Behind him, he could hear muttered curses from his teammates and knew they felt the same. But they needed weapons. Ones that could actually hit a ghost. And they needed to make sure they could fight off any overshadowing.
A TV was thrown out of a house through a window next to them sending shards of glass raining on the ground. Sam let out a string of curses.
“Sam!” called Danny. “Are you okay?”
“I think so. Just a slice to my arm.”
“We’re almost there,” said Tim. “We’ll check it out.”
He was flat out running now, could hear the others just behind them. They turned a corner and he could see the glowing FentonWorks sign. He grit his teeth and continued to run away from the mayhem, fighting every instinct he had. He wouldn’t be able to help if he stayed. He repeated it as a mantra with every step.
And finally they were there, he grabbed the door handle and pulled it open, ushering his friends in first.
Once inside, Danny flipped a few switches and metal slammed down over the windows, though no guns or lasers came out of the walls.
“Okay. No ghosts can get in now.”
“Danny!” Jazz came running down the stairs. “You’re all okay! Mom and Dad rushed out as soon as the attack started. What’s going on?”
“Jazz! Sorry, I dropped your milkshake on the way here. And not much, just, you know, a ghost invasion.” Danny’s laugh was bordering on hysterical.
“But you’re all safe?”
“Sam?” asked Danny. “How’s your arm?”
“I think it’s all right.” Sam grimaced as she held some tissues to the injury.
Jazz joined and led her to the kitchen. “Come on, let me clean that up for you. What happened?”
“A ghost threw a TV through a window. A piece of glass got me as we ran by.”
Tucker turned on the Fenton’s TV and switched to the news channel.
“I’m Shelly Makamoto and this is Ghost Watch,” an Asian woman said in a cheerful voice. “Ghosts, can you believe it, real ghosts are invading Amity Park right now. Emergency vehicles are struggling to get through the invasion, so if you are injured and in an area of high ghost concentration, help may be delayed. It is recommended you remain put and wait until first responders are able to get to your area. Currently, the ghosts are most focused on the downtown area, so the hospital is spared at this time. We can only hope this doesn’t change. Now, our weatherman Lance Thunder is out right now, so lets switch to him to get an on-the-scene report.”
They all watched in silence as a male reporter cowered behind an overturned car as he gave his report.
Sam and Jazz returned just a moment later. Sam had a large bandaid over her arm but shook her head when Danny shot her a questioning look.
“It’s fine. Clean cut.”
Tim relaxed as well. “Glad to hear it,” he said.
Jazz nodded. “Nothing to be concerned about at all. Thanks for getting the ghost shield up, Danny. I always forget which switch is the weapons and which is the shield.”
Tim’s eyes narrowed. She was lying. Why was she lying?
“Yeah, no problem. We’re gonna go to the lab. Tim and his friends have self defense training, Gotham, you know? So I want to see if we have any weapons in the vault that they’d be comfortable with.”
“Great. I’m gonna be in my room. As class president, I want to try and make sure everyone is safe so I’ll be on the phone with my door shut. Knock before you enter!” Then she was running back up the stairs and slamming the door to her room.
Tim exchanged a glance with Cassie. That was weird.
But next to him, Danny let out a breath. “Okay, so she’s out of the way. Sam, you sure you’re okay?
Sam grimaced. “It stings a bit, but it’s fine. Jazz put disinfectant and antibiotic cream on it.”
“Great. Well, not great.” Danny grimaced and Sam punched him on the arm.
Tim cleared his throat. “You said something about weapons?”
Conner nodded. “Yeah, did you say you have a weapons vault?”
Danny laughed. “You saw the home defense system. Are you really surprised?”
Cassie shook her head. “Your parents are evil scientists, aren’t they?”
Danny led them down a set of stairs. “I wouldn’t call them evil. They’re just… a bit single minded.”
And then Tim was standing in their lab for the first time. It was all silver chrome and neon green accents. But worse, it was messy. Half assembled inventions were scattered haphazardly over every surface. And was that a half eaten sandwich on the bench? Ectoplasm dripped off one of the counters onto a puddle on the floor.
Sam, Tucker, and Danny walked in without concern, but Tim and his team held back.
Danny realized they weren’t following and looked back in concern. “What’s wrong?”
“No offense,” said Bart as his eyes darted around, “But, uh, is it safe?”
“What do you mean?” asked Danny, but then he looked around and noticed the mess. “Ah. Hang on a sec. I’ll get you rubber gloves and boots you can slide on over your shoes. That’ll keep you safe enough.”
Sam helped and soon enough they were passing the protective gear over. Meanwhile, Tucker sat down at a computer and pulled up the news report so they could keep tabs on what was going on.
“Can we get eye protection as well?” asked Tim once he had everything on.
“Sure. Mom and Dad have plenty of goggles.” Danny grabbed a few of those as well.
Still not entirely comfortable, Tim finally stepped into the lab. On the far wall, behind yellow and black doors was the portal he’d heard so much about.
Danny followed his gaze and put a hand on his arm. “Come on, Tim. The weapons vault is over here.”

This should be enough to figure out which episode I'm using as the base for this arc! It's not quite the Ghost Fight people were hoping for in the comments of the last update, but I think this is gonna be better.

My wife's dad is more scary then Batman and my grandfather Ra's al Ghul
Estelle as name for Dani or Estrella
4 Baby Talons (clones of dick Grayson)
It had already been a few months since Damian got married to his friend Ellie, and he was very happy. I'm not sure how to explain it to his family or, worse, her family, but that can wait. It happened while he was traveling with her together on vacation through the countries. And he chated and wrote her like four times a day.
While Damian hid it from his family, Dani didn't, as she first told Sam. Jazz and Maddie are working on how to tell Danny. And then Danny learned about it, and he left to meet that boy in Gotham. It had been a long time since he had been in Gotham. And the observers wanted that one person called Doctor Simon Hurt; too many souls died thanks to him.
He was joined by Skulker on this mission. Skulker was just happy to hunt something new, as he didn't try to hunt Danny anymore. The pain that Danny did to his Robot Body he felt on his real boy!
Well, Dani kind of followed Danny; she wanted to make sure he didn't turn her into a widow! She didn't even tell him about her being a meta!
There was something not many people knew about Danny that he himself never noticed, as Amity Park had known him since he was a baby. And being pretty carefree in your demeanor doesn't help. But once outside of Gotham or at Gala with Vlad, people notice it, like Lex Luthor that very short moment in the Gala.
Here in Gotham,
Danny met his son-in-law, and he found the boy interesting. Sam had told him about the child of Bruce Wayne, the playboy billionaire. But he wasn't sure why the boy was so jumpy. I mean, Skulker isn't even near them; already, with few of his duplicates had found Dr. Hurt and captured him already. And Danny others looked if that Owl group still existed since the last time he cleaned them up.
Danny is too powerful for most normal people to fear. Only with good instinct will he notice how formidable he truly is.
So poor Damian's whole body was in horror at this moment. His instinct made him able to notice it fully.
Damian twitched as he was just near Dani's Father, no matter how he tried to hide or stop it. This man made him think of his grandfather, General Zod or similiar. He wanted to draw his Sword, but he didn't have it near him.
Damian smiled at Dani as he tried to play it cool. But when you notice your father-in-law's shadow moving, HE HAS SEEN WORSE! He can do this!
And after a good dinner and talk he got the support of Danny; Ellie smiled; she wouldn't be a widow; and Damian was happy he was accepted and didn't have to fight this villain, maybe? or in the future. Damian didn't get to sigh in relief as Danny left and whispered something about collecting something.
No! Damian, doesn't care!
He wants alone time with his wife. Only to be told "he was to come with his family to Amity Park to meet the Fenton. Damian's family should meet theirs."
Dani told him they would come, and she would Call them 1 or 2 days bore that first before Damian could say anything.
+++++
As Danny was outside of Gotham, Skulker came to him with his few duplicates, holding four tiny blue-gold mixed-eyed children. "Skulker, you destroyed how they were created and so they can't do it again?" Skulker:"Yup, destroyed both Dionesium and Electrum and let few pets out to eat them, it wasn't Lazarus Pit which is needed after all and has nothing to do with us in the Zone. Also I sent copies of the Court members, very damning evidence of their crimes to many newspapers and reporters all around the US. Did you know they blackmailed a few Senators? It will be a comedy in a few days; you can tell that goth girl to tell her family." Danny nodded his head at that. " The cover-ups for this one?" Skulker:" Yes, Mr. Freeze will do it, as last thanks for helping to heal his wife." Danny:" Good, we can leave then. I am hungry."
Skulker:" Didn't you just eat?"
++++
At Amity Park, it didn't take long for Jazz to just accept the new 4 Owlet babies and raise them, she really is wanting to raise them. True, Danny had no plan for them, but that works too. And now they just have to wait for Damian to visit with his family.
++++
At Gotham, after the chaos was fixed by Mr. Freeze and the new chaos started by the news and police forces and even villains attacking the higher class… Bruce meets and learns about his son's wife, and he is told to meet her family in Amity Park. Damian warned his father, his new father-in-law, that this is very scary and not normal.

How To Cross Lines You're Unaware Exist
Summary: A guide by Maddie and Jack Fenton.
Author's Note: I've written the obligatory vivisection fic! That means I get my fandom gold access card now, right?
...
Danny isn’t sure how he actually made it back here, when he thinks about it.  He can’t walk, and it would take too much energy to turn his tail back into two legs.  He’s floating slowly and shakily down the street, only able to muster the energy to turn invisible whenever he sees someone coming.  But when he looks up, he sees home— his house— Fenton Works— the only place he has to go right now.  Jazz is home from college, there won’t be anyone in her dorm, and there’s no way he could get there anyway.  Sam’s parents hate him too much for that to be an option.  Tucker’s still away at Robotics camp for another week and he— he’s going to need someone to help him.  It’s probably a good thing Jazz is home, in that light.
He musters whatever he can gather up and turns intangible, then pushes himself upwards off the nearest building, straining himself as much as he can bear, which is thankfully enough to get him up and through the wall to his bedroom.  As soon as he makes it inside, he collapses, landing hard on the ground of his room with a loud crash.  He hears a startled yelp from the bedroom down the hall, and then Jazz’s bedroom door opening.
“Danny?” she calls.  “Is that you?”
Before Danny can call out some kind of answer, the sound of a car approaching comes from outside on the street, and a jolt of terror launches him across the room and locks his door.  He slumps down against it, and lets out a couple pained whimpers.  His chest does not like the decision he just made, though it was really an involuntary one.
The door slams open downstairs, and Danny hears his mother’s voice, frustrated and loud.  He hunches over on himself, which his chest doesn’t like either.
—fire his chest is on fire and he’s screaming can’t they hear him screaming why won’t they STOP—
“Jazz?  Danny?” his mother calls a second later.  “We’re going out tonight!  Can you both come down here for a second, please?”
Danny shoves his hands over his ears.  No, no, no no no no.
—he’s long passed the point of being above begging, especially when the GIW brought them in, but they’re not stopping either and the begging is doing NOTHING why is the begging doing nothing they listen when he begs for pizza for dinner how is that more important than this—
“I don’t know if Danny’s home yet, Mom!” Jazz calls, and Danny can hear her moving down the hall and towards the steps.
“Wait, what?  It’s almost midnight, Danny’s not home yet?” comes his father’s voice.
Jazz’s footsteps stop, and Danny hears two sets of footsteps coming up the stairs.
He’s pretty sure he knows what’s coming, so he gulps a couple heaps of air before, a second later, he hears a knock on his door.
“Danny, sweetie, are you in there?” his mom asks from the other side.
—“it really is impressive an impressive mimic,” Mom says, “the screams sound almost real”—
A gentle knock on the door.  “Danny?”
“Y— Ye— Yeah Mom,” Danny manages, somehow.  “I’m here.”
There’s a pause.  “Are you okay, sweetie?”
—“and these organs look almost human,” scientific fascination is abundant in her voice, the same intrigue that’s there when Jazz explains something about psychology or Danny rants to her about the stars—
“I’m f-f-fine,” Danny forces out, biting down on the pained cry that’s trying to escape.  “You s-said you were going out?”
“We were going to,” Mom says.
“The GIW helped us capture Phantom, but then it escaped,” Dad adds.  “We were going to go after it, but are you sure you’re okay, Danno?”
—“Mads, cut a portion of that one off,” Dad says, with all the delight he has when asking for a second brownie.  “The one that looks like a heart.”  A sigh, like how he sounds when Mom says no.  “And then we’ll have to sew it back up.  Ghost or not, it’ll need time to heal if we want to examine it more.”—
“I’m fine,” Danny says through gritted teeth.  “Go, go find him.”
“I can take care of Danny,” Jazz says quickly, and Danny can hear them shuffling towards the steps.  Jazz must be pushing them that direction.  “You shouldn’t leave a ghost to roam free, that could be dangerous!”
“Well, if you’re sure,” Mom says, sounding very much unsure herself.  “But we’ll keep our phones on, okay?  Call us if you need anything?”
—stitches pulling his chest back together, every part of him still on fire, he can feel his heart starting to grow a new valve—
“Of course,” Jazz says, and her voice is harder to hear now.  They’re downstairs.  “And don’t worry, I’ll call you if something happens with Danny.”
“Please do,” Mom says, muffled slightly by the sound of the front door opening.  “I’m not sure how long we’ll be gone, but even if we don’t catch it, we’ll try to be home before morning.  The GIW are out looking too, I’m sure we’ll get somewhere.”
—screaming his way through what little he has left, the scream breaking equipment, opening holes in the walls, pushing his parents back against a table.  Flying, flying, get AWAY—
The front door closes, but Danny doesn’t move.  He’s exhausted, but he’s pretty sure if he relaxes, he’ll pass out, and then he’ll change back, and then he won’t wake up.
There’s a long, long pause, and then the car drives away, and then footsteps start up the stairs.
He hears another knock on his door.
“D-Danny?” Jazz says.  There are tears in her voice.  “We’re… we’re alone in the house now.”
Danny slams his head back against the door and wails.

It Happened at the World's Fair Review
Tumblr media
It Happened at the World's Fair expands on what was introduced in Girls! Girls! Girls! (which came out after World's Fair filming started). Taking inspiration from Blue Hawaii, this set of movies are music heavy, have colorful scenery and involve Elvis having to work with child actors. The scenery in this case is the real life world's fair. The 1962 World's Fair in Seattle opened in April and closed in October. With a very limited timeline, it was very important that the movie comes out before the novelty of the fair is gone.
Because this is an actively operating fair, there were many issues involving crowd control. It's a major reason why filming didn't even start in September when most children started school. Naturally, this posed a problem because this meant despite making the movie as fast as possible, it still came out in April 1963 (6 months after the fair closed). Despite the logistical issues, does this movie capture the beauty of the World's Fair while balancing its plot, or does it take a complete nose dive because of the rushed production? Let's find out.
Tumblr media
To start with, I'm not a big fan of the title. I get you need to highlight the World's Fair but it's a bit clunky. Might I suggest "World's Fair Wonders"? This opening song is forgettable. "Beyond the Bend" sounds like a rejected version of "Ridin' the Rainbow" from Kid Galahad. Since those two songs have the same songwriters, I get the idea that they repeat melodies to make up for the extra songs. After all Kid Galahad (at the time the last movie the songwriters worked on) only had 6 songs while this movie now has 10.
Elvis singing while flying a crop duster feels dangerous since it's obvious he's distracted. He looks goofy wearing those goggles and just seems out of place. We immediately get jokes with Elvis being a pilot claiming he can't see the barn. It's a joke as old as the Three Stooges. Elvis is so irresponsible that he flies the plane practically next to the road just to flirt with some girls. They almost crash into some telephone wires and I wonder if Paradise, Hawaiian Style was inspired by this scene when they did the helicopter scene with the dogs.
Tumblr media
Surprisingly for a cliche womanizer, Mike is financially responsible. It isn't much but it does give him some depth. Given how he almost crashed the plane because he was distracted by women, it's impressive that he that it's not his entire character. As to why he doesn't take the money with him, I have no idea. I guess you have to assume that Mike doesn't know Danny had access to his hiding place.
So he goes to meet one of his girlfriends, Dorothy, who we never see again. They're making out on the couch while Dorothy wants to push away to get some iced tea. But Mike insists on keeping the action going. I know out of context "Relax" is a steamy song, but I wonder if it was intentional to make Mike so pushy. Because he's always touching Dorothy while she pushes him away and does everything she can to get away from him. He pulls stuff out of her hands and it's just creepy.
Tumblr media
Her parents come back and I'm very confused on why Dorothy's dad is so upset. Unless we're assuming that they have never met Mike in their entire lives, it's very strange to react like that. At least seeing Mike run for the hills gives us a little chuckle as if to say "yeah he had it coming". The whole scene is just random as we didn't need to emphasize that Mike's a womanizer. The opening scene already tells us that he's a flirt. Since Dorothy doesn't even come back, it just feels like a scene where you go "ok that happened" as it came and went without adding anything.
Mike somehow catches up with a now broke Danny. After multiple bad hands, Danny can't pay his losses to some guys including a Red West cameo. A fight breaks out in the office and I don't think I've ever seen such an ugly scene. That gives it a bit more realism. You don't expect regular guys to have the punch of death. It's supposed to be ugly and brutal and it's not completely unrealistic that Mike and Danny win long enough to get away in their plane, Bessie.
Tumblr media
The duo lands in Sherrington where they find out that because of the many debts they have, the sheriff "boots" their plane. He takes away their keys and gives them the ultimatum: pay the $1200 debt in 2 weeks or their plane goes up for auction to recoup the money. That's a pretty good set up for a conflict. It doesn't involve Elvis having bad luck, but instead relies on his friend having a realistic character flaw in the form of a gambling addiction.
Penniless and stranded, the duo tries to get a free ride into town. For how expensive his suits were, I'm amazed they had Elvis walking down the road in it. At first a car with a couple women stop but they only wanted Mike's lighter. I'm not sure if it was meant to be a joke or a narrative device meant to make the audience feel bad for them. Personally I don't think it does any of that. I didn't think it was funny and the "pain" they endure from the bad luck doesn't last long as they immediately get a ride. It makes me wonder why it was even added since there was no indication that a long period of time passed.
Tumblr media
We get introduced Mr. Walter Ling and his niece Sue-Lin. I love this family. It's obvious that this is an Asian immigrant family which is very realistic for this part of the country and the time period. Despite Mr. Ling's actor being Chinese and Sue-Lin's actress being born in Manila (which is in the Philippines), it's actually not that bizarre. The Philippines does have a Chinese population so you can easily assume that Sue-Lin has some Chinese ancestry. For the time period, I'm so glad that this family is depicted as real people as opposed to stereotypes.
They drive to the World's Fair and I love the real backgrounds we get because of it. Mr. Ling being a delivery driver makes perfect sense since there are plenty of farms around the Seattle area. He can make extra money to be able to afford going to the fair. Sue-Lin has Mike try to explain what she might see and we get a decent song as "Take Me to the Fair" is a whimsical tune. I love Sue-Lin as a character. She isn't a generic cutesy girl character. We get genuine depth by showing that she's able to understand Chinese when her uncle is talking on the phone. When she finds out that uncle Walter has an important job and can't take her to the fair, she's naturally upset. It's not done in an over the top way where she has a complete tantrum. She understands that uncle Walter needs to take the job, but she's of course disappointed. Her realistic reaction only makes you appreciate Mike when he at first begrudgingly agrees to take her.
Tumblr media
Mike's distracted by woman and we get it he's a womanizer. They could've just had him be absentminded because he's worried about finding a way to get money. But I do love how we see Mike and Sue-Lin interact with the real exhibitions such as the monorail. It gives you a special perspective that goes beyond a soundstage and shows just how big this fair is.
We get a Joe cameo as the man who gives Sue-Lin her red dog. I love the montage of them going around the fair. It's a wonderful showcase of what was there in case the viewer never had a chance to go and for younger generations who might not even know about the fair. Plus we get to see Mike warm up to Sue-Lin like he's taking his own daughter or niece to the fair. I can believe a change like that can happen in a short period of time. Unlike a romantic relationship, you don't need to have a lot happen to get along with a child. And it's not like Mike hated Sue-Lin as they got along on the truck ride.
Tumblr media
It's really incredible to see just how much you can do at the fair for what doesn't seem like a lot of money. If only this was made earlier as it would've been a great way to promote the movie. After one too many treats, Mike takes Sue-Lin to the fair's nurse station. While Sue-Lin's being treated, Mike starts talking to himself and looks distractingly tan. When the nurse comes in and sees this he naturally can't help but flirt with her.
He pretends to have something in his eye and it's shocking how unapologetically pushy he is. I love how Nurse Warren rightfully calls him out on this. You really feel uncomfortable for her since it's relatable to have a man flirt unwarranted. Sue-Lin feels better so the two of them leave. Mike looks smitten and I have no idea what's meant to be so special about Nurse Warren. Because unless he thinks she's just playing hard to get, they have literally no chemistry.
Tumblr media
I love this song. "They Remind Me Too Much of You" is such a beautiful ballad that if it wasn't for the fact that his first interaction with Nurse Warren went horribly, it would be the perfect ballad. We never see a quiet moment like this in any Elvis movie. In fact this is the first time outside of the opening song where Elvis isn't even singing out loud. He's only thinking about it as Sue-Lin sleeps. Not a single word is spoken as we take in this moment of Mike reflecting about his feelings. It's easily the best scene in the movie as it shows that Mike is so much more than a womanizer.
Mr. Ling returns to pick up Sue-Lin and you really get the idea that Mike loved "chaperoning" her. Sure he does say out loud to Danny that he was more happy about meeting Nurse Warren, but I honestly think the movie should've skipped the romance altogether. Mike had more chemistry with Sue-Lin in that one montage than he ever had with any other woman. The scenes with Dorothy and Nurse Warren only shows how shallow he is with women. With Sue-Lin we see a different side of Mike where he grows to care for Sue-Lin like she's his own family member.
Tumblr media
Danny manages to swing the duo a temporary home that was set up for people attending the fair. We get introduced to Barney "yoo hoo" Thatcher who Danny uses as his pigeon to get money. Mike talks about how to get with Nurse Warren and again all I can think of is just how shallow he is. Even if he does succeed, it doesn't feel satisfying here because it doesn't feel like he'll change.
"One Broken Heart for Sale" is such an unnecessary song. We don't need to be bashed over the head with the obvious fact that Mike is horny for the nurse. Mike doesn't even deserve to say his heart is broken. You can't say your heart is broken just because someone you just met didn't reciprocate your pushy behavior. It doesn't add anything and just feels so out of place since you also have the other old men magically know what he's singing. Just shows how even the best songwriters can have duds if they're not in the right context. It's a shame because Otis Blackwell and Winfield Scott have had great successes with Elvis.
Tumblr media
We cut to the next day as Mike has a ploy to get Nurse Warren's attention. He pays a boy, played by an uncredited Kurt Russell, a quarter to kick him in the shin. I love how as Elvis screams in pain, you can see people in the background turn to see what happened. That's a sign that this was a genuine crowd and only makes the setting feel real. Given the extent of the actual injury I'm more amazed that the nurses didn't immediately call for an ambulance. If Mike supposedly can't walk properly that could possibly be a sign of a broken leg. Mike says he blacked out which if you're a nurse is a red flag. The head nurse even has him walk on it and you just have to wonder why they're doing this. They don't know Mike is exaggerating so they're doing a horrible job of insuring his safety when the head nurse suggests Nurse Warren escorts him home.
As Nurse Warren shows no sense of urgency we get pretty obvious rear screen projections as the two talk. Why are we doing this? Nurse Warren doesn't know that Mike's faking so why is she taking her sweet time getting him home? In fact, when Mike again lies about blacking out, instead of calling for an ambulance she instead helps him up to the real rotating restaurant. Why? A professional would've immediately called for an ambulance. You would never risk moving someone who feels that dizzy as you would risk causing them further injury.
Tumblr media
His ploy seems to work though since Nurse Warren is in no rush to leave the restaurant. In fact based on the passage of time they've been in that restaurant for hours. Mike even sings a ballad about how he's in love with Nurse Warren. "I'm Falling in Love Tonight" is such a generic ballad that I have no idea why I'm supposed to support this budding romance. Nurse Warren falling for Mike is something I don't buy at all. If anything it's showing that so long as you get the girl, you can be as pushy and manipulative as you want. That's a terrible moral to have for what's supposed to be a family film. It'd make more sense if she's just going along with this until it all blows up in his face, but that isn't at all how it's presented
I do love how the extras have their own charm to the movie. These were legit patrons that had no idea of what's happening. Them clapping after Mike's song was real and I love it because it shows just how weird it is to have someone burst into song in a restaurant. Mike's ploy immediately falls apart as the boy from earlier comes back. He kicks Mike in the shin and I love the old man who's just like "oh my God what's happening". He looks realistically concerned.
Tumblr media
As Mike tries to apologize to Nurse Warren, Sue-Lin rushes up to him. She tearfully tells him that her uncle didn't come back from a job. Given how she waited from 9 am to 3 pm for Mr. Ling to return, I'd say Sue-Lin handled the situation very well for a child. You always allow for some delay if someone's traveling because you never know what would happen. When it became obvious that something had to have happened, it's natural for her to be very concerned.
This is the most realistic acting from a child I've ever seen. A 7 year old girl possibly losing her only guardian is terrifying situation to be in. It really says a lot that she didn't go one of her neighbors since they were living in one of those temporary homes as well. In fact, I'm amazed that not a single adult noticed her wandering the fair alone and most likely in distress. It's like the movie wants us to believe Mike's the only adult in this movie who Sue-Lin can even trust.
Tumblr media
He takes Sue-Lin home and the movie immediately got better again. Mike explains that he took every measure to make sure people know he has Sue-Lin. I love this as he could've easily been the buffoon that has no idea how to tell anyone that he's watching a child who would otherwise have no one. It seems like it's relatively late at night, so while you can question if Mike's doing the right thing, it's at least better to have Sue-Lin be in a safe space than drive around trying to find the authorities.
We get a sweet scene where Sue-Lin dresses in her traditionally Chinese pajamas. Mike even sings "Cotton Candy Land" as a lullaby. In the context that it's in, I know the lullaby is meant to be sweet, but I only get a creepy vibe to it. I'm not sure why but to me Mike singing it in a quiet voice and the music just makes me feel more scared than soothed. The sandman doesn't feel like this whimsical creature but more like a monster. I'm sure that was unintentional as I don't think it's a common opinion to feel that way.
Tumblr media
After pretending to be sick so Mike can make up with Nurse Warren, she arrives to check out Sue-Lin. It's a bit distracting how the studio light casts a big shadow. You know that little night lamp isn't doing that. Sue-Lin tells Nurse Warren the truth and I'm amazed Nurse Warren didn't immediately raise an eyebrow. Then again this is the same woman who took what she believed to be an injured Mike up to a rotating restaurant when he said he was about to blackout. I can't take any expertise or authority a character like her should have seriously.
The movie clearly has no idea on how to handle their relationship as Nurse Warren starts to fall for Mike again when he serenades her. "A World of Our Own" is so unnecessary. Mike being nice to Sue-Lin and taking care of her doesn't eliminate the fact that he was pushy and manipulated her. The whole relationship just feels forced as I don't think this couple has any chemistry. Again there's nothing about Nurse Warren that makes her different since there's a clear difference between playing hard to get and having no interest. While the movie wants to tell you that she's the former, you really know that it's the latter.
Tumblr media
Danny comes back from his card games completely drunk. You would think this would tell Nurse Warren that Sue-Lin living with Mike is a bad idea. But no. It's not even a thought that was uttered as she just drives home. How? She has the authority to report this to the authorities since Danny being drunk can lead to terrible consequences. Especially when you have a child in the home.
Danny meanwhile meets up with a guy named Vince who offers Danny a deal to fly up to Canada. Oh yeah they had a debt to repay. I almost forgot about that since that plot took a back seat to the conflict of Mike caring for Sue-Lin and the conflict of Mike getting with Nurse Warren. Vince outright agrees to pay them the whole amount that would allow the duo to get their plane back. So naturally you assume he's going to be the villain which can't possibly be a good thing since he's been introduced way too late in the movie to really do anything important.
Tumblr media
Mike comes back from asking about Sue-Lin's uncle. We get a sweet moment where he watches her color before playing "How Would You Like to Be?" with the windup clowns. I love the song as it does serve a purpose. Mike is trying to cheer up Sue-Lin and it of course makes sense that Sue-Lin only sings along once she feels better. These aren't complicated lyrics to try to have a young girl learn so it feels realistic for her to join in. Her dancing along with Mike is sweet but the smirk he has does feel out of place. I would've used a different shot as out of context you don't think he's looking at a 7 year old girl.
A woman from Child Services arrive to take Sue-Lin away. Because after a couple days, now it's a problem for Sue-Lin to be here. The woman says "an abandoned child is automatically a ward of the state" which is a lie. Sue-Lin wasn't immediately taken by the police who had to have known she was with Mike. This whole plot point is terrible as it doesn't properly set up why now all of a sudden is it a problem. The woman claims that it was Nurse Warren who made the complaint which you immediately know isn't true. If Nurse Warren genuinely believed that Sue-Lin wasn't safe, that would've been conveyed in the previous scene. This is just terrible drama meant to turn Mike off of her. Also there's no way that woman from Child Services would straight up tell Mike who made the complaint. That would put the person who made the complaint at risk of retaliation.
Tumblr media
This whole situation is gets even worse as for someone who's supposed to be in Child Services, she can't even keep track of one child. I understand that Child Services has a very legitimate job, but this movie doesn't paint them in a good light at all. Instead of taking this seriously, I just see Child Services as a joke in this movie. They're only now making a stink about custody of a child when not even the police mentioned it. Instead of making it a forced situation from the start, it was only "suggested" so I have no reason to buy this organization as legitimate. I can only think of the much later film Lilo & Stitch as it does a better job of setting up why Lilo could be taken out of the home.
So we have Mike now desperately trying to find Sue-Lin as he's the only one who would know where she could be. As irrational as it is that he wouldn't tell authorities where she would be, I 100% get it in this situation. The authorities have done nothing to prove that they are reliable. In fact, if Mike didn't find her, you already know Sue-Lin would just runaway again. It's really sad that a child feels more safe with Mike than the authorities meant to protect abandoned children. It's also frustrating that because of the situation, Mike's now being painted as if he's abducting her.
Tumblr media
Mike and Sue-Lin manage to make it to the airport just as Nurse Warren arrives trying to find them. She tries to explain what happened but he naturally doesn't want to hear it. Mike is just so done with everyone as he immediately finds out about the smuggling scheme. I know that Vince being a criminal was going to be this twist but wow they really just dropped that fur smuggling scheme that quickly. It doesn't even give that much importance or tension as Sue-Lin actually does something by biting Vince's finger when he's holding them at gunpoint. A fight breaks out and again it's ugly. Just like a real fight between non-professionals. Mike at this point is running on pure adrenaline so it makes perfect sense for him to win. But it's just so anti-climatic because really? This is what you've been building Danny's subplot up to? This plot element of Danny being involved in a fur smuggling scheme is introduced and resolved so quickly that there's no point in it even existing.
They get caught by the police and it turns out Danny was the one who contacted Child Services. This is a stupid twist as there's no way he could've fooled the woman from Child Services into thinking he's a woman. Also why's he now deciding that Sue-Lin was a problem when he didn't want her being there in the first place? It's not like he cared about Mike's feelings for her.We then find out that Mr Ling was only 20 miles south of the town and was in an emergency hospital. 20 miles is not that far so I have no idea why it took them all these days to figure this out. If Sue-Lin knew where he was going that she knew he should be back by certain point, what's the mystery here? It isn't like uncle Walter got kidnapped and no one knows where he could've been taken. Again a very anti-climatic ending for something that took up a big chunk of the movie.
Tumblr media
We time skip to Mike applying to NASA as he walks with Nurse Warren through the fairgrounds. He sings about how this is a happy ending with a very fitting title "Happy Ending". Danny and Sue-Lin with her uncle Walter are nowhere to be seen to share this moment and absolutely nothing was earned. Maybe I'm missing something, but I just don't think this couple is likable and Mike was better off forgetting about her. It isn't unrealistic to realize "hey my priorities have changed. Getting the girl doesn't matter to me anymore. All that matters is that Sue-Lin is safe." That's character growth.
But no this is an Elvis movie and regardless of whether it makes sense for them to be together, he has to get the girl. It just makes you wonder why we spent all this time on something only for it to be completely hand waved like it was nothing. Almost like they completely ran out of time with writing the script and just had to say "everything is magically resolved no matter how ridiculous it is".
Tumblr media
This movie clearly tried to do too much and it shows. You have the conflict of Mike and Danny being broke and needing to get the money for their plane; Mike wanting to get with Nurse Warren and having to deal with her being mad at him because he lied; Sue-Lin's uncle going missing and people thinking she needs to go to Child Services; and a last minute fur smuggling scheme. None of these plots were resolved in a way that feels like thought was put into it. They were only resolved because it's an Elvis movie that has to have a happy ending as opposed to naturally fixing them. As a result, the whole film is messy and is a case of wasted potential. It seriously needs a rewrite to smooth out everything that doesn't connect together well.
That being said, I give this film a 7/10. I can respect the attempt at giving an Elvis character depth, but I still think more work needed to be done. I do recommend watching it simply because the fairground scenes act as a time capsule of what life was like back then. It's just unfortunate that the movie was rushed because it was a great concept. No matter how you look at it, you wouldn't have been able to get this movie out in time to promote the fair. You can't film before the fair opens because then you have nothing to serve as a background since it's being built. You definitely can't film it in April because then you have to worry about the massive crowds since it's a total novelty and you can't do what the directors chose to do and film near the fair's ending because then you won't be able to get it out in time to promote it. It's a lose-lose situation which is a horrible shame but I at least respect the fact that they tried doing something like this.
AN: Thank you to my discord bestie snaileyinsheff for suggesting this movie and providing input. Also shout out to @hooked-on-elvis for providing the link that I used to watch the movie.

My Secret Ken-Doll (epilogue)
5 years later
Kennedy walked out of the kitchen to the pool, dressed in her own little two piece, she was finally back to her original figure and was enjoying being back. She sipped her cool drink and leaned against the door frame of the backdoor, watching Elvis toss the kids in the pool.
They now had a total of 4 kids, Kennedy had gotten pregnant back to back and Elvis enjoyed impregnating her for sure. Her pregnancies had gotten a tad better than her first one with Jude but it was still horrible especially the first trimester. However, she did not have to go into work while she was pregnant because she wasn’t working anymore. She was by Elvis’ side all the time.
The littlest one who was 1, Gracie, was in the shade playing with her toys. Jude was currently on Elvis’ shoulders trying to dunk him in. Charlotte who was now 3 was splashing her dad, they were all ganging up on him. And directly after Jude was Danny, he’s currently 4 and he was getting ready to jump from the diving board.
Elvis quickly pulled Jude off of his shoulders and threw her in the pool as she shrieked then he grabbed Charlotte as she tried to quickly swim away but he was able to pick her up and toss her in the water.
Danny jumped in splashing all of them.
“Hey mama! You wanna join us over here?” Elvis grinned, looking at Kennedy as she walked towards Grace in the shade.
“If you’re gonna be rough housing then I would rather not.” Kennedy replied, plopping down in the shade.
Elvis jumped out of the pool, but kept his eyes on the kids. They all got lessons in swimming when they were very small but it was still very dangerous. Kennedy and Elvis only let the kids be in the pool if they were with them, never alone.
“Come on, everyone out of the pool!” Elvis shouted. They all started to moan about not wanting to get out “Come on, only for 5 minutes, take a juice break or something.”
“5 minutes! I’m timing you Daddy!” Danny yelled, getting out of the pool and running towards the kitchen to grab himself a juice box while the girls wrapped themselves in their towels.
“Dry off Daniel!” Kennedy yelled “You’re gonna slip in the kitchen!”
“I’ll be careful.” Danny replied but as he passed Elvis on his way to the kitchen, Elvis wrapped his arms around Danny from the back and lifted him up.
“Listen to your mama and dry off.” Elvis replied grabbing a towel from the chair, he placed Danny back on his feet, wrapping the towel around his shoulders. Danny pouted and dried himself off.
Elvis then walked to Kennedy, and leaned down, planting a kiss on Grace’s head before kissing Kennedy. Elvis pushed Kennedy back on the grass, kissing her more passionately while fully being on top of her.
Kennedy grinned and kissed him back “I hate it when you kiss me like that in front of the kids.” She said pulling away from Elvis.
“Why?” Elvis grinned “We’re just showing them what real love looks like.”
Kennedy shook her head at him with a smile on her face and ran her fingers through Elvis’ dripping wet hair “I hate it because I’m now thinking about you in our bed.” she whispered even though only Grace was next to them and she was too engrossed in her toys to pay attention to them, the rest of the kids were still in the kitchen.
“Oh.” Elvis grinned “Does my wife want some lovin’?”
Kennedy blushed slightly and nodded.
Elvis’ grin widened even more as he leaned down and captured her lips, Kennedy could feel his bulge poking her thigh as he continued to kiss her “You want me to put one of those in you mama?” He asked her pointing at Grace.
Kennedy pushed him back jokingly “No!”
Elvis rolled off of her and laid down on his back on the grass as he burst out laughing.
“No more.” Kennedy added.
“1 more.” Elvis pouted, giving her the biggest puppy eyes.
Kennedy narrowed her eyes at him and sat up. Her expression softened as she watched her other three kids hurtling out of the kitchen in their little towels. She loved them with all her heart. Kennedy turned her head back towards Elvis, her expression softening “Maybe a few years from now.”
Elvis threw his fist up in the air in celebration “Yes!”
Elvis sat up and wrapped his arm around Kennedy’s waist, dragging her into his lap. He kissed her shoulder and placed his chin on top of her shoulder “I’m just kidding. We don’t need to have more kids. Don’t get me wrong, I would love to have more but I know how tough pregnancies are for you and I know we were extremely reckless and ended up getting pregnant with 4 kids back to back which was tough for you.” Kennedy stopped taking her birth control pills due to them causing her to feel very down and depressed and Elvis was sometimes too lazy to wear a condom and sometimes didn’t pull out on time.
“It was worth it though.” Kennedy replied and leaned back against Elvis, she wouldn’t change a thing.
Elvis and Kennedy’s relationship has only gotten stronger after Jude, they were completely in love and obsessed with one another. Elvis has never looked happier, according to the Mafia, Dodger and Vernon.
4 years and 9 months ago
Kennedy was 3 months postpartum, living with Elvis as a married couple but with no ring on her finger. Elvis had wanted to propose to her a long time ago, before their break up and ever since they got back together he’s been antsy and waiting for the perfect opportunity to propose. He wanted to make a big gesture and big proposal but he slowly realized Kennedy hated big, she loved her space so he decided to propose to her in the most simplistic way.
It was when the three of them (Elvis, Kennedy and Judith) they were all relaxing in the living room, sitting on the floor and watching TV. Judith was on the carpeted ground on top of her blanket having a little tummy time when she started to get fussy.
“Oh, it’s okay. You don’t want any more tummy time?” Elvis cooed, picking Judith up and resting her in his lap. She quieted down as she sucked on her pacifier, enamored with the colors on the TV.
Kennedy leaned her head back and continued to watch TV.
“Oh look mama, Jude has a gift for you.” Elvis said.
Kennedy turned her head and saw an open ring box with a huge diamond ring inside sitting on Jude’s little stomach. Kennedy’s eyes shot up to Elvis’ face in confusion.
“Will you marry me, Kenny?” Elvis whispered.
“You wanna marry me?” Kennedy asked, in shock mostly.
“Honey, I would give anything to be able to call you my wife.” Elvis replied, getting choked up.
“Honey.” Kennedy also started to get choked up “Of course I’ll marry you.”
Elvis grinned “Come over here and kiss me, Jude fell asleep, I don’t wanna move and wake her up.”
Kennedy giggled and crawled over to him, capturing his lips with hers.
“Mrs. Presley.” Elvis chuckled as Kennedy started planting kisses all over Elvis’ face “Let me put that damn ring on your finger.”
Kennedy giggled and stopped attacking Elvis with kisses. Elvis held Kennedy’s hand and slid the ring on her finger.
“Let’s put her to bed and celebrate.” Kennedy said, wiggling her eyebrows at Elvis.
Elvis grinned and stood up, making sure not to wake Judith up.
Safe to say that was the day Danny was conceived.
Present Day
“Daddy! The 5 minutes are up!” Jude yelled, her, Charlotte and Danny were all standing at the edge of the pool practically bouncing on their toes to jump in, waiting for the go ahead from their Dad.
“Come on Daddy! Stop making out with Mommy!” Danny groaned.
“Hey! We’re not making out!” Kennedy replied, she was literally only sitting on his lap.
“You were a second ago.” Jude replied with a raised brow.
“Oh my god, that was a Kennedy facial expression.” Elvis whispered in Kennedy’s ear.
“Oh god, I’m passing down my horrible sass to my kids.” Kennedy whispered back.
“It’s a good thing!” Elvis laughed.
“How?” Kennedy asked.
“No one will ever walk all over our kids.” Elvis replied and kissed Kennedy’s cheek. Kennedy smiled for a second before she gasped when Elvis stood up, she slid down his lap. He then picked her up as she shrieked.
“Elvis don’t!” Kennedy giggled and tightly wrapped her arms around Elvis’ neck.
“Throw her in the pool!” The kids chanted.
Elvis then tossed Kennedy into the pool before they all jumped in together.
“You are so dead Presley.” Kennedy said after she emerged from the water.
Elvis laughed and both of them turned to the kids making sure all three had their heads out of the water.
Elvis gasped watching Kennedy get out of the pool “You’re leaving? What the heck doll.”
“I’m just getting Gracie, relax.” Kennedy chuckled.
“No! Then dad won't let us splash in the pool.” Danny pouted.
“Hey! Your sister is joining us.” Elvis said and splashed Danny making Danny grin mischievously and splash Elvis back.
Kennedy handed Grace to Elvis and he held her, the older kids had learned how to swim by her age and they were getting ready to put her in private swimming classes as well.
The kids started to play a game together while Kennedy swam back in. Grace was kicking and splashing the water while giggling, still in Elvis’ arms.
Kennedy smiled softly, never pictured her life would be this perfect.
“Why are you smiling like that baby?”Elvis asked, matching her soft smile.
“I just love you.” Kennedy replied.
Elvis’ smile widened “I love you more baby. Now come here and give me a kiss.”
Kennedy chuckled and swam over to where he was standing and kissed him.

Danny Tells
Short blurb of Danny revealing the truth to the Drs. Fenton.
When Danny decided to come out to his parents, he came prepared. He, Sam, Tucker, and Jazz all prepared for Situation Omega. Tucker crafted fake IDs and social media histories to help Danny go incognito. Sam with her Nana Ida set up a credit card to keep Danny solvent until he could establish a new life. Jazz prepared the bugout bag with clothes, necessities, and a scrapbook and Neil Pomstrong the doggie astronaut plush. All three sat with Danny in the Fentonwork’s living room, bracing Danny from all sides, warming Danny to the core from their support as he shared the truth. He was Half Ghost, and was the Ghost Menace, Phantom. “....You mean Invisobill?” Jack asked, his mouth working faster than his brain in the moment. All four of the Phantom Team sat awkwardly at that declaration. “Um, I honestly really hate that name? Like, from the first time I heard it.” “Wait, that can’t be…when did…how?” Maddie asked. Carefully, trying to spare his parents feelings, Danny laid out the events of his fourteenth year. The failed portal, the dare, the photoshoot, the trip on a loose cable. The on switch. The portal activating, giving him far more than a “minor shock” as he brushed off to his parents with his friends’ help. With Danny insisting he was fine and the portal working, the doctors Fenton moved on with their research.
Now they stared in horror. “And you’re…you’re not just some ghost possessing….” “We actually used the Fenton Dreamcatcher on Danny before,” Tucker interjected, pulling up one of the many videos he’d taken of their exploits on his laptop. The screen showed two entities. One was obviously Danny, though far more relaxed and unfocused than normal. The other was Phantom, this one far too rigid and vigilant. Seen side by side, Jack and Maddie couldn’t deny the resemblance. “It was a nightmare. There are two halves of Danny, but they’re just halves, they need each other to be whole.” “Mom, Dad,I know it sounds super strange, but this is still Danny. He’s just…enhanced. The portal infused him in such a way the electricity bonded his body with the ectoplasm. And he’s been using his powers to help Amity Park. I know you know that. I’ve heard you questioning why he’d save civilians if he was an evil ghost.” “Wait, what about the property damage? Capturing the mayor? The thievery?” “In reverse order,” Sam sighed, counting on her fingers, “Mind control, Mayor was overshadowed by an evil ghost and maneuvered to make it look like Phantom was taking him hostage, and you two are featured on the news instead of the weather due to the damage the GAV causes.” “It’s not that bad, is it?” Maddie asked. “I thought we were just famous,” Jack muttered. “Listen, the thing is, not all ghosts are evil. If you’d actually get to know the ghosts that don’t come through to cause trouble, you’d realize that immediately. As proof, I’m here. I’m still Danny. I’m part ghost, yeah, but I’m also a combination of you two. Your smarts and dedication and drive. I’m just hoping you remember I’m also someone made up of your understanding and compassion. I’m still Danny. I’m still your son.” He took a deep breath in the silence. “If you…if you can’t accept that, it’s fine.” It wasn’t fine. “I’ll survive.” He knew his core would ache for ages, just like when Valerie found out about his identity and hated him for weeks before talking to him again, just like when he thought he found a kindred spirit in Vlad only to discover how much of a fruitloop he actually was. It’d hurt so bad he wasn’t sure he’d survive it, but the platitudes continued. “I’ll go, if you can’t accept it. I mean, I didn’t tell you for ages because you kept going on and on about what you’d do to Phantom if you caught him. “So, if you hate me, if you want Phantom gone, I’ll go, and you won’t have to think about me again.” He faltered during the last few words but his friends and sister, his fraid, stood strong, their devotion letting him only slump instead of collapsing. “This…I just…” Jack sputtered. “This is why the security system kept attacking you, isn’t it?” Maddie asked. “Egads! Hang on!” Jack pulled a remote from his hazmat suit and pressed a quick code into the buttons. A soft whirring sound that they never noticed before due to its persistence faded away. “There we go, off!” “You…you turned them off?” Tucker asked. “Of course! I mean, wow, this is…” “It’s going to be a big adjustment, honestly,” Maddie admitted. “Everything told us ghosts were evil, unfeeling, basically monsters out to destroy and nothing else…but…I just… The two exchanged long glances, a silent conversation born from years of sharing a marriage and a fixation. “Do you mind if we…review everything? With a new perspective?” Jack asked. “I understand if you want to…if you feel safer going to Sam or Tucker’s house while we do so. This is just…a lot. And we…Jack, we just...Just…give us some time, please?” “Mom, Dad, you’re being weirdly level headed…” Jazz accused. “Well, Danny…” Maddie began before faltering.
“We want to make sure he feels safe! And he’s obviously had no reason to feel that way for a while. We….Danny, I think I can speak for both of us to say…You’re our son. We don’t get what happened, but we’re Fentons! Give us a few days and we’ll figure out a way to reverse-” “NO! You’re not listening!” Danny screamed, pushing both his parents back into the opposing loveseat, and pushing the loveseat and any surrounding furniture back several feet. Danny’s hands smacked over his mouth, muttering soft apologies as his parents tried to sort out what just happened. “I…It’s like…this isn’t something you can fix. I’m only alive because, somehow, I only half died, and that half became a ghost. When I used the dreamcatcher, that almost destroyed me because neither half can really work without the other. If you try to reverse it, I either become a full ghost or a full corpse. “My ghost half keeps me sapient. My human half keeps me physical. And I’ve really gotten to know the ghosts; a lot of them have no interest in the human realm. I mean, you created a portal to a new dimension and all you’ve wanted to do is tear the denizens apart ‘molecule by molecule.’ You aren’t scientists with that attitude, you’re homicidal maniacs." Danny stood up. “I’m going to Tucker’s. If you want to talk, call first, but don’t call for at least three days. I want to know you aren’t calling in the heat of the moment.”

A little headcanon of mine that was inspired by this prompt: https://im-totally-not-an-alien-2.tumblr.com/post/690977597332570112/hey-who-wants-a-really-dark-and-morbid-prompt
Making this its own post so that the world sees it? I guess. Despite being years on this site I still don't know how everything works, especially on mobile.
It's full of angst and has the potential to be tragic.
Now, the gist is that Danny gets captured by Batman, who is his Dad in this au, because he misunderstands what a ghost core is and removes it, causing Danny to despise him and try to "go ghost" again. By all means necessary. The whole thing is of course bad because he gets a huge part of himself just taken away.
Batman thinks it's for the best and wouldn't listen to Danny, keeping him in Wayne Manor and getting him back everytime he tries to escape.
I am quite fascinated with this take and I love it. I also thought about it and am trying to get the "science" of how this scenario could work and I am generally trying to discern how I think that cores work in the Danny Phantom world.
Now, the way I think about cores is that as much as they are the brain/body/whole being of a ghost they are at their simplest definition the soul of a person. And this soul can also have two modes of existing, the active mode and the passive mode.
The active mode would be when it is tightly compressed into what is called the core. This mode exists only when the being is made of pure energy. Now when the core enters the more physical realm and aquires a body (most likely being born but you can't exclude revival and such things.) it changes into its passive mode.
The passive mode is not like a compressed core but more like a cloud of energy. It's like taking a breather and just relaxing. While in passive mode the soul gives up all "administrative" work and decisions to the body. The body houses the decompressed core and it's like, swimming or floating inside the cells of the body. This could also be what people perceive as the aura of a person. But the influence of the soul is not really gone, it's just that while the soul might still strive for a purpose to keep it going the body will of course compromise to secure survival and safety.
The passive mode is like vacation for the soul where it can just let itself go. Exist. Take in everything life offers. But in a certain way I think this is also a state where it is most vulnerable.
The forming of a ghost is mostly seen as caused ba a traumatic event. (Excluding the forming of born ghosts). You could explain this by saying that in a way, the soul was so much hurt that it compressed to a core to protect itself, flipping to the active mode to control its own actions better and directly influence what it's doing without the hindrance of a physical body.
If you think about the theory of this active and passive mode you could also explain the dreamcatcher incident. I don't really remember that one episode but Danny went through a dreamcatcher and got split into his ghost half and his human half. Both those halves had quite the opposite personalities and i never liked that because neither of them really felt like Danny. It's more like he was split into his extremes of the active mode and the passive mode.
The phandom established that ghosts have an obsession. Some like this take on ghost and some don't. I think they can have obsessions but those could also change over time. Slowly. Very slowly.
The strongest obsession of a ghost is the one that might have killed them or was influenced by the way they died. The core is just stuck on that one because it was what led to their forming and what was just a dominant part of them at the moment. It fixates on that to protect itself, learn to protect itself or to "control" their trauma.
Some of us have smaller obsessive bouts where we just fixate on a fandom and nothing else really brings joy until we move to the next fandom. Or some people are fixated on a novel/sport/activity etc. until we move on. At the least, our bodies will tell us when it's time to take a breather and just eat something or relax.
But ghosts don't have that. They don't have a body telling them to chill/eat/sleep and so on. They are not hindered by being tired. They have that one thing going for them and nothing can physically stop them living out the thing that gives them purpose, and because they don't get tired doing that, they will not move on to another obsession. Furthermore because they don't move on from their obsession they might perfect it, take it to the extreme. (Best hunter, rockstar, kid just wanting to play).
Going back to Danny, I see many, so so many fics where his obsession is to protect. Some even bind him to Amity Park saying he can't leave because of his obsession. Was this caused because we all saw the pure ghost form as a hero?
I don't really like it when his freedom is bound in such a way. I more prefer the fics where his obsession is space.
(And did noone ever see the beautiful parallel of the ghost of time and the ghost of space knowing each other? Noone ever thought about what exactly Clockwork saw in Danny to want to help him? The one that guides but cannot act and the one who can change so much but needs guidance? I'm sobbing just thinking about this.)
Well....that's just my personal feelings about this.
Now, the Hero Danny or purely Phantom or just Active Danny had the whole thing of protecting the town going on. As this was his 'current' obsession it was the one that manifested on the ghost form. It was also an unnatural state of the active mode so even that might have been tampered with.
The Lazy Danny or Human Danny or just Passive Danny was basically a soul half stuck in passive mode. Not even getting the little drive to really strive for anything a natural passive mode would give him. This was basically a body just thinking about itself. Purely I don't know...hedonistic, wanting to have fun. Not being able to think about future plans and just living in the moment. Both those halves where unnatural and not viable in the long run. I think a split soul would have just killed them in the long run.
Finally Dannys situation could be one where his core was so much tempered by by the portal that he can change between active and passive mode. He has a core that can relax and compress at will. Giving more freedom when in human form and powering up fast (sucking in all the energy) to form the ghost form. It might also never be a conventional ghost core and he would never have a normal aura as a human anymore. Even with the change he would have a halfstate of being. Having a fainter aura as a human that is a bit more saturated in the middle and as a ghost he would have his core, but he would be able to release larger bouts of energy.
It just really came to me why Danny could have a legit reason to be so much stronger than other ghosts. Vlad too I guess. Because of his special core. Ghost may stagnate in their power. They have to stay stable. But Danny is partly kept stable by his body. That's why his core can give out more energy. He can expend more energy because his core is not so tightly compressed like a normal ghosts. They have a limit. His limiter is kind of deactivated. ...now I'm just rambling.
If you think about Danny always being in a state of permanent active and passive mode then getting rid of the core would be like cutting out a huge part of him. Half to be exact and all the connections, maybe like blood vessels would be left open. Bleeding out and killing him. His passive soul would cling to the body to safe itself or the body clings to the soul.
Maybe losing a small part, a fracture, would have been survivable, but being literally cut in two...it aches. Death would call to him, his other half would call. Crying and screaming and bleeding and fading. An open core and a body with an open wound (on a spiritual level).
What do the bats see? What does his family see? A person slowly losing himself. Aching in a way that grows with time. Maybe slowly driven mad by the pain of a slow and painful death. Not even a pain that's visible but one that is deep inside. One he can't comprehend in the beginning. And nothing helps. Nothing can get him motivated. He loses his will to live but is it really that? Is it not the hopeful thought that death will bind his two halves together again? Is trying to kill himself not the frantic behaviour of a being that wants to save its very existence?
What would the ghost see? What would members of the justice league dark see? What would every person with the Sight see? A walking corpse. A mutilated boy, clinging to live and striving for death. Carrying an open wound for the world to see. To feel. Maybe to taste. Maybe to experience. Being in a presence of a being that is surrounded by its own blood. Cloying your senses and constricting your throat. Would they be horrified? Would they even really know what they are looking at when they themselves try not to drown in anothers blood? Would they weep and scream and feel his pain like it was their own, would they not want to destroy all that could produce such horrors?
What could they do? Would they be in time to save him? Could they stitch him back together? Would it take or would he not have the energy to connect what was cut. Maybe a healing sleep? For how long and where...most likely in the ghost zone. It's where he wanted to be. It's where he will fade or keep existing.
The question now is, when everything is over will he ever return? Will this future ghost king ever be himself again after everything that has happened?

The Curse of Oenone (Leo Valdez xFem!Oc)

X: Are You Serious? Right in Front of My Salad?
I wake up with a start. My mouth is dry as if I've been running for hours. I just had the weirdest dream about Janus in a forest and now my mind is racing, so I get up. I leave Annabeth in Geryon's old bedroom and make my way downstairs.
Nico is seated on a tall chair in the kitchen aisle, he doesn't look up as I walk past him, but as I'm filling a glass with water, he speaks to me. "How's Lily?" He asks hoarsely. "And Michael?"
I want to ignore him, but his voice is so broken my heart can't bear it. We spoke to his sister's ghost today, and Bianca told him to stop trying to bring her back.
"You know, now that you're all grumpy, you and Lily would get along even better."
"I don't want friends," he cuts me off, voice quivering. "Just wanted my sister."
"Nico," I leave my glass on the counter and cross my arms. "I grew up in an orphanage—"
"What's that got to do with—"
"Shut up and listen," I scowl. "I didn't know how it felt to have a real family until recently, and sometimes Percy annoys me on purpose, but no one cares for me the way he and my mom do. If Bianca, your only sister, was asking you to trust us, you should've listened."
"Like how you listened to Percy when he asked you to stay put?"
I tense. "That's different. Geryon would've killed him if I hadn't—"
He interrupts me bitterly. "Percy's not your real brother, and you'll never know what a real family is. You get in everyone's way trying to be a hero."
I try not to pout, but I'm not succeeding. "That's mean."
If Nico is ashamed, I don't sense it. "It's the truth."
"You don't talk to your friends like that," I say, voice quivering. "Bianca—"
Nico gets up and exits the room hastily, speaking through gritted teeth. "We are not friends."

"...Gaea told me that she needed the blood of only two demigods—one female, one male. She—she asked me to choose which boy would die." Piper explains during the meeting.
"But neither of us died," Jason replies. "You saved us."
"I know. It's just... Why would she want that?"
"Guys, remember at the Wolf House? Our favorite ice princess, Khione?" Leo mentions. "She talked about spilling Jason's blood, how it would taint the place for generations. Maybe demigod blood has some kind of power."
"Oh..." Percy leans back in his chair looking nauseous. "Oh, bad... Bad. Bad." He turns to Hazel and Frank. "You guys remember Polybotes?"
"The giant who invaded Camp Jupiter," Hazel replies. "The anti-Poseidon you whacked in the head with a Terminus statue. Yes, I think I remember."
"I had a dream, when we were flying to Alaska. Polybotes was talking to the gorgons, and he said—he said he wanted me taken prisoner, not killed. He said: 'I want that one chained at my feet, so I can kill him when the time is ripe. His blood shall water the stones of Mount Olympus and wake Earth Mother!'"
"Jolly way of dying..." Ara mutters.
Piper makes a face. "You think the giants would use our blood... the blood of two of us—"
"I don't know," Percy replies. "But until we figure it out, I suggest we all try to avoid getting captured."
"That I agree with," Jason sighs.
"But how do we figure it out? The Mark of Athena, the twins, Ella's prophecy... how does it all fit together?" Hazel questions.
Annabeth leans on the table. "Piper, you told Leo to set our course for Atlanta."
"Right. Bacchus told us we should seek out... what was his name?"
"Phorcys," Percy responds.
"You know him?" Annabeth looks at him with surprise.
"I didn't recognize the name at first. Then Bacchus mentioned salt water, and it rang a bell. Phorcys is an old sea god from before my dad's time. Never met him, but supposedly he's a son of Gaea. I still don't understand what a sea god would be doing in Atlanta."
"What's a wine god doing in Kansas? Gods are weird," Leo points out with a shrug. "Anyway, we should reach Atlanta by noon tomorrow, unless something else goes wrong."
"Don't even say that," Annabeth shivers. "It's getting late. We should all get some sleep."
"Wait," Piper intervenes. "There's one last thing. The eidolons—the possessing spirits. They're still here, in this room."
There is nothing but silence for a few seconds before Hazel sighs. "Piper is right."
"How can you be sure?" Annabeth questions.
"I've met eidolons. In the Underworld, when I was... you know."
"So..." Frank looks around anxiously. "You think these things are lurking on the ship, or—"
"Possibly lurking inside some of us," Piper replies. "We don't know."
"Okay," Ara fixes her posture tensely. "Do you have a plan to get rid of them?"
"Yes," Piper looks at her. "I think we can fix this."
Ironic, how the skills that have proven to be handy so far are the ones she had as an Aphrodite and not the ones she worked hard for. "Okay," Ara nods with confidence. "What do we do?"
"We talk, and everyone else has to listen," her sister explains. "Your voice is stronger than mine, so it'd be better if you call out to them first, and force them to stay put."
"You're a better negotiator, though," Ara reminds her, "so you'll do the talking after I've got them in place."
"Deal."
"Girls, what are you—"
Ara hushes Jason and lifts a finger. "Be quiet, I have to focus." She closes her eyes and takes a deep breath. The girl's skin glows pink, and the dark brown has been replaced with iridescent tints when she opens her eyes. "Eidolons, where are you?"
A ripple of warm air crosses the table. Leo, Jason, and Percy sit up stiffly, their gazes are the same golden color. "Here," they speak all at once.
Frank jumps out of his seat and presses his back against a wall. Hazel covers her mouth in horror.
"You are not allowed to leave your seats," Ara tells them.
"We won't move," they reply.
Annabeth looks at the two daughters of Aphrodite with worry. "Oh, gods—Can you cure them?"
Piper raises her hand to ease her, and when she does, her palm trembles a little. Ara holds it as soon as she notices.
"Are there more of you on this ship?" Piper asks.
"No," Leo responds. "The Earth Mother sent three. The strongest, the best. We will live again."
"Not here, you won't," Piper's eyes blaze with anger. "All three of you, listen carefully. You will leave those bodies—"
"No."
"We must live."
"Then find another way," Ara glares at the Eidolon possessing Leo.
Leo's face twists into a smirk. "You are a spoiled child of Olympus. We do not answer to you."
"Mars Almighty, that's creepy!" Frank draws out his bow. "Get out of here, spirits! Leave our friends alone!"
Leo looks at him. "You cannot command us either, child of war. Your own life is fragile. Your soul could burn at any moment."
Frank manages to aim an arrow at Leo. "I—I've faced down worse things than you. If you want a fight—"
"Frank, don't," Hazel gets up, then turns to the others. "Listen to Piper."
"Daughter of Pluto, you may control gems and metals. You do not control the dead," Percy snarls.
"Listen, eidolons," Hazel spits out, "you do not belong here. I may not command you, but Piper and Ara do. Obey them."
Piper looks at Ara, the girl squeezes her palm and absorbs the fear her sister is feeling so she can speak. Piper takes a deep breath and tries again. "You will leave those bodies."
Jason grimaced. "We—we will leave these bodies."
"You will vow on the River Styx never to return to this ship, and never to possess any member of this crew."
Leo and Percy groan in protest, but their eyes are slowly changing colors.
"You will promise on the River Styx," Piper repeats, squeezing Ara's hand.
Ara shakes off the shivers she's getting from sponging Piper's anxiety, but she doesn't let go of her. "Promise!" The girl stomps her foot impatiently, and another ripple of hot air pushes out of her place on the table.
"We promise on the River Styx," the boys spit out in different levels of distress.
"You are dead," Piper continues in a steady voice.
"We are dead."
"Now, leave."
The boys fall: Percy against the table, Jason over his chair, and Leo onto the floor. "Ow!"
"Leo!" Ara lets go of Piper and circles the table, she finds Leo sprawled next to his toppled chair.
"Are you all right?" Hazel asks the boys.
"Did it work?" Leo speaks groggily.
"It worked," Piper announces. "I don't think they'll be back."
"Does that mean I can stop getting head injuries now?" Jason groans.
Piper laughs. "Come on, Lightning Boy. Let's get you some fresh air. And Ara..." she tilts her body to see her over the table's surface. "Thank you."
Ara helps Leo to get back on his feet, she dusts off her jeans and looks at Piper. "You saved my brother and my boyfriend, I should be thanking you."
"What was that thing you did?" Hazel questions in shock. "You glowed pink!"
"Aphrodite's blessing," Ara replies. "I can use those from time to time, but not often and not one after the other, it tires me out too quickly."
"You have more than one blessing?" Frank asks in shock.
"She's got four," Leo replies hoarsely, rubbing the side of his face. "Gods, doll, you could've asked my ghost to land on his butt..."
Ara grins. "We should call it a day. Y'all go to sleep, I'll take the night shift."
Everyone starts to leave, but Percy stays behind to talk to Ara and Leo. "So..." He makes a face. "That sucked. I'm sorry for... you know..."
"It's alright, man," Leo shrugs. "I would've reacted the same way if some weirdo claimed to be my sister's sweetheart and then proceeded to bomb my house."
"A real fancy way to put it, Leo," Ara scowls.
"My point is—now we can start over, right?" Leo reaches out to take Percy's hand.
Percy shakes his hand with no hesitation. "Definitely." He glances at Ara. "I know Ara can take care of herself, but... just try to be careful."
Ara feels weird about the way he says it. Her mind goes to Hazel and Frank, and how they called Leo 'Sammy' the first time they spoke to him. She thinks Percy knows something about that.
Tumblr media
Leo is checking the ship's status before ending the day. It could be done by just one of them, but he insisted and Ara refused to let go of him now that he's eidolon-free.
"Not that I'm complaining," he walks from one place to another with Ara hugging him from behind like a little kid. "But it wasn't that serious, doll. Getting possessed is kinda like the flu."
"It's not funny," Ara mumbles, squeezing his waist. "Last night he could've taken over while you were kissing me—"
"Yikes," Leo cringes. "Let's not go there."
"But it could've happened!"
"Nah," he taps the morse code for 'I love you' on the back of her hand. Leo does it without noticing, or at least that's what Ara thinks, she's never asked because she fears it'll make Leo self-conscious and then he'll stop doing it. "My Eidolon was scared of you—all bark and no bite. The reason why they felt brave enough to attack you in New Rome, was because you were caught off guard."
"Love your blind faith, but—"
Leo turns and wraps his arms around her. "No buts! You're strong, smart, and hot when you use your blessings."
Ara gets flustered and tries to step back. "Okay, I got it—"
The boy kisses her without warning. He hadn't kissed her like this in... well, probably never. When he ends it, Ara is speechless and light-headed, her soul-light glows as bright as gold. Sometimes he does things that make her doubt he's not a fidget of her imagination, the way he can make her forget everything that bothers her and all she can do is stay focused on him in just a matter of seconds.
"Talking about last night... you mentioned Hazel," he says quietly, paying close attention to how she reacts. "We're gonna talk about that, or..?"
Ara leans her forehead on his. "Do we have to?"
Leo frowns. "Yeah, think so. That girl and her boyfriend freak me out! I don't know what I did to them..."
"Percy knows, but I don't think he wants to tell me," she sighs. "You should ask them face to face."
Leo snorts. "And say what? 'Hey, are you two planning my murder?'—bet that would lighten the mood around here."
Ara rolls her eyes. "Obviously not like that! I'm sure there's a way to address this without making it awkward..." She holds his arms. "Do you think Hazel..."
Leo stares at her, and he doesn't know how, 'cause this has never come naturally to him, but he guesses what Ara's trying to ask him. "You think she likes me?" He squints. "I mean, I am more good-looking than Frank, but—"
"Leónidas!" She hisses under her breath. "I'm serious!"
"Me too!" Leo exclaims. "Okay fine, grown-up talk," his grip on her gets a little tighter. "I don't know. It's like she's scared of me or something... I'll try to talk to her if you want me to."
Ara's uncomfortable for a wide variety of reasons. Mostly jealousy, but she's having negative thoughts about a girl that she's supposed to look after, and to top it all she's Nico's half-sister. She tries hard not to antagonize Nico too much, but she's always finding ways to do so.
"I hate feeling this way." She makes a face. "When we got the celestial bronze, you guys had like... a moment. I'm still thinking about it."
"A moment?"
Ara blushes, knowing how ridiculous she's about to sound. Her eyes avoid his when she talks, they're no longer golden, but they still have power over her. "You locked eyes for a second. It looked intense."
Leo presses his lips together, stopping himself from laughing. "Hm."
"This is stupid, I don't know why I'm even—"
The girl turns to leave, but Leo pulls her close again, grinning from ear to ear. His soul-light brightens. "Arae Jackson, are you jealous?"
"No!" She exclaims indignantly. "Being jealous would mean I don't trust you and I do! I don't care if you talk to girls, I'm just—worried."
"Worried," Leo repeats tauntingly. "Sure. Whatever you say, sunshine."
Ara slips out of his grasp and hurries away. "I'm telling Frank you said he's ugly."
"Hey! I didn't—Ara—STOP!"

A Walk Through My Year in Media
This isn't necessarily things that came out this year, but rather things that I watched/read this year that I liked or compulsively consumed regardless of whether or not I liked them.
2023 in Films
Most of this post is going to be positivity; a sampling platter of things I've enjoyed this year. But also:
Salty Film Hot Takes:
The French Connection is uncomfortable to watch. I don't care about the racist, antisemitic, misogynist cop. He's objectively bad at his job make him go away.
None of the Next Generation era trek movies are good.
Guardians 4 would have been a better movie if Pratt wasn't in it. And I mean that in a "the script would be better structured" way.
Se7en is a really fun film and I'm not mad to have rewatched it recently but... it's undermined by 1) the writers not realising that John Doe's opinions are bog standard right wing talk radio shit, 2) the fact that they kind of agree with him and 3) they clearly, hilariously, don't know what lawyers do.
The Mummy (2017) is awful. I guess that's not controversial but still.
Robin Hood (2018) is also awful. Like, amazingly so. And, slightly warmer take, so is Prince of Thieves you guys.
I will not be answering questions on any of the above.
Positive Film Hot takes:
I went on a bit of an 80s dark fantasy kick this year. Out of films that I hadn't seen before, The Dark Crystal and The Last Unicorn really stood out. Especially the Dark Crystal. I ended up rewatching the show as well. Just so good. Bring it back. Justice for the gelflings.
I also watched a lot of Terry Gilliam this year - not all of his back catalogue but most of it. Obviously Jabberwocky is almost entirely bad, no one needs to be told, but overall yeah you get why he's beloved. The common vibe from his films is "wow there's so much to love here but it doesn't quite work". Brazil is an obvious standout - it's a classic for a reason. But I want to highlight The Adventures of Baron Munchausen. Behind the scenes disaster and orientalist opening sequence aside, it really is spectatular. The sets, the details. It's so well crafted and just makes you wish they made films like this all the time. Damn you, Terry.
The 1938 Robin Hood film is the best Robin Hood film. Yes, congratulations, you noticed another theme in the shit I've watched this year. But yes, it's great, it's fun and well paced. It holds up staggeringly well. I also watched The Court Jester (1955 - with Danny Kaye and Angela Lansbury) - Also surprisingly great.
Finally, also feeling medieval, I watched Excalibur (1981). This is more "swords and sorcery" than "dark fantasy" (think: Conan the Barbarian vibes), but it's kinda great (most of the genre is not, lbr). It captures the logic of those stories, the vibes of the mythology very well, the mix of pagan and early christian beliefs, and the weird metaphysics that results. It's great. Way better than that dumb clive owen one. My lord that was bad.
2023 in Telly
Live Action Drama:
Tumblr media
Succession
It's good. I don't think anyone needs me to tell them that. Still haven't finished it but enjoying it in a peaceful, fandom-free way.
Robin Hood (2006)
This was a terrible show, with an even worse third and final series. Did I rewatch the whole thing anyway? Yes I did. Should I have? No. (I love the first two so much though. Lily Allen's dad as the sheriff of Nottingham as tony blair? sign me up.)
Doctor Who
Am I a basic bitch who only came back to who because RTD did? Yes. But at least I'm not quite as basic as the ones who were only back for Tennant. The first one was good, if a little on the nose, the second was great, the third was good up until they get onto the stupid avengers platform for the showdown, from which point me and everyone in the room just got mad at it. The christmas special was fun though, excited for Gatwa and the new series.
Adult Animation:
Tumblr media
Castlevania: Nocturne
assajhdaskjhfksjdfhlsdjaghljdsghaj
Genuinely so great. It's very clear that they're setting up a whole multi season arc with this first season, and the incompleteness that comes with that is probably its biggest flaw. But overall, fucking fabulous. The animation, fights, character design. Just a gorgeous show. Maybe not to everyone's taste; it's fantasy, but not escapist - its very much rooted in the historical injustices of the setting and has some heavy themes as a result. But if you liked the first Castlevania show, then you'll probably love this.
Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix
You might have noticed that there was a show out that featured "Rayman, but with drugs and cussing!" and, yes, this is that show. You might not have noticed that Rayman is only a small part of it, and it's actually about Dolph - a traumatised gay cyborg - and his no good, horrible, very bad breakup. Dolph is great.
Star Trek: Lower Decks
Do you like Star Trek? Do you like silly cartoons and workplace sitcoms? Then do I have the show for you. Real highlight of the year for me tbh. While the show is built on poking fun at trek canon, and can feel a little overly reliant on nostalgia sometimes, the latest season really pushed for more meaningful character moments in between the laughs. I like it. It's good.
Mononoke
This was the most mixed of mixed bags. Japanese horror with a really striking and confronting art style. At its best, it's got this visceral atmosphere that sucks you in and is genuinely fantastic. At its worst, it's got a whole storyline about "abortion ghosts", and features some art that comes across as racial caricature. Between this, and a few other things that felt uncomfortable in an unintentional way, I don't think I'd really recommend this, but it did stick with me, I'll give them that.
YA Animation:
Tumblr media
The Dragon Prince
If you're into the whole YA fantasy adventure thing, this is an obvious rec. It's biggest flaw is how slow it's been to release, but if you're binging it for the first time, that's not a problem. It's heartfelt, it's pretty, it's clearly a kids show but is well crafted and has appeal beyond its core audience.
Star Trek: Prodigy
S1 actually originally aired like two years ago, but I only watched it this year after finding out that it was cancelled. But it was rescued! S1 is now on netflix, and s2 will air there next year. Genuinely a really fun contribution to the whole trek shebang, fitting into the universe well without ever feeling reliant on nostalgia.
I didn't include the two other treks that aired this year because s3 of Picard sucked balls (still not over it) and Strange New Worlds has stopped appealing to me... but that's a whole thing for the other blog. But the animated series are great! Also Disco. I still like Discovery.
Skull Island
This was better than it had any right to be. One season of a surprisingly funny King Kong show, also on Netflix.
Reality:
Tumblr media
Rupaul's Drag Race UK Season 5
DRUK is good again, hooray. The dark times are over... for now.
Married at First Sight UK
Do not watch this. It will consume your entire life. Your brain will melt away as you watch someone fake cheat on their fake husband with someone else's fake husband just days into their fake marriage.
Taskmaster
It's good. It's been good. It continues to be good.
2023 in Gaming
Lol no. Can you imagine?
I did play the sims a lot. I had my guy cheat on his husband who then died.
2023 in Books
Fun fact: I only finished one of the books I intended to read this year. That's embarrassing. Anyway, it was "From Here to Eternity" by Caitlin Doughty (yes, the Ask a Mortician lady). It's great.
2023 in Comic Books
Orlando
This has really been Steve Orlando's year for me. I was thinking about what series I would include on a highlight list, and his Scarlet Witch was the only obvious answer for me. Sara Pichelli's art in that series is gorgeous - I love the way she draws Wanda. The writing is solid, compelling, tells a complete story. If I were to recommend any one series from this year, it would be this.
His Astonishing Iceman was also up there for me, and I will also repeat that the Mutant First Strike one shot he wrote was genuinely great. Kudos, Steve.
Gillen
Kieron Gillen's Immortal X-Men is easily one of the best to come out of the Krakoa era, and this year was no exception. I didn't really care about the Sins of Sinister event, and I care even less about the Fall of X event, so it really means something that I'm still including this series here despite it being dominated by these events. The issue with Piotr's narration has been my favourite, I think. But overall, still strong. I really hope he gets to continue writing these characters (especially Exodus and Sinister) in the future.
Other Positivity
Ewing's Black Panther series is really solid, Avengers (2023) has been pretty good. Dark X-Men was probably my actual favourite of the Fall of X titles.
Negativity
Lol I already said I didn't like the x-events. I also hated cold war. Such a waste of an opportunity. Speaking of, a lot of my comics-based salt and frustration this year has been about Sam. The way that he gets written out of things, ignored, then he turns up and his written badly and goes straight back to being ignored again. Then Marvel turns to the camera and is like "why would audiences do this?".
Put the fucking effort in and more people would show up for him. It's not that hard.
There's my overall annoyance with Duggan, which is a freebie, but one highlight of that has to be the bizarre direction they went with Kamala. No one wanted this, no one needed it, and certainly nobody needed the weird gleeful "killing" of this character just to launch a pointless plot beat that feels both offensive (see: Emma lecturing Kamala about not understanding real oppression) and is inexplicably happening during a whole massive event that feels like it should be about other characters.
The end...?
I don't want to keep listing things that annoyed me this year, because it'll just get repetative. If you follow me (which, if you don't, why are you reading this?), then you'll see me complaining about random crap all the time anyway.
Have a good NYE everyone!

IKnowYourSecrets: hey
IKnowYourSecrets: I know this isnt something weve done before
IKnowYourSecrets: you said you got a cell for your last bday
IKnowYourSecrets: can I call you?
IKnowYourSecrets: heres my number XXX-XXX-XXXX
-xXPolarisXx-: is everything ok?
-xXPolarisXx-: dont answer that
-xXPolarisXx-: obv not
-xXPolarisXx-: my phones in my room brb
Danny ran up stairs to grab his phone and return to the computer before anyone could close out of his chat. He checked the number and dialed it, closing out of everything and logging out as the call connected.
“Tim?” he asked as soon as the ringing stopped. “What’s happened?”
“Danny? I… this is weird talking like this.” Tim’s voice was rough and Danny couldn’t tell if that was from emotion or just how he normally sounded.
Danny laughed a little. “Yeah. It is. Give me a sec, let me get to my room and I’ll shut the door. Give us some privacy.”
“I… yeah. I might need a few minutes.”
“Are you okay?”
Tim made a sound that was somewhere between a laugh and a sob and Danny all but ran up the stairs. “No, not really. Um. My mom’s dead.”
“What?!" What was the appropriate response to something like this? Sometimes he wished he had Jazz's way with words. "What happened?”
“She and dad were in the Caribbean." Tim let out a huff. "I didn’t even know they were in the Caribbean.”
Danny made a noise to indicate he was listening, but waited for Tim to continue.
“There was a local villain named Obeah man. He captured them and held them ransom. Gave them some water to drink at some point, but… it was poisoned. By the time Batman got there, it was too late. Mom died.” Tim gave another half-hysterical laugh. “And my dad is in a coma. He may never wake up.” His voice trailed off.
Danny swallowed. How does anyone respond to news like that? “I’m so sorry, Tim. How are you holding up? What’s going to happen now?”
“The funeral is in two days. Bruce is organizing it. And I’m going to stay with him, I guess. He said he’d be happy to foster me until my dad gets better.”
“Shit, Tim. Text me during the funeral if you need to.”
“I might take you up on that. You won’t mind?”
“Of course not. Every 5 seconds if you need to.”
“Distract me. What’s going on in your life? I don’t want to think about any of this anymore.”
“Oh, uh, all right. Are you sure?”
“Please, Danny.”
“If you change your mind, interrupt me anytime.” Danny chewed his lip. What on earth could he talk about in response to news like that? The test he had in English last week? That sounded so trite. “I did start karate training with…” he trailed off before he could say his mom. “Anyway, it’s going all right. I’ve basically only been taught basic moves. I only get lessons two or three times a month so it’s slow going.”
Tim’s voice was still shaky, but he seemed to latch onto the topic to Danny’s relief. “You really have to give it your all if you want to succeed. Have you learned the basic stances and things?”
“Some, I think.”
“Hold those positions. Stand in your room and just hold them for ten minutes at a time. And practice the same punch over and over. Even if your m—” Tim’s voice caught and he changed course “—instructor can’t make it. Would you be allowed to sign up for classes? Get something more consistent?”
“We don’t have the money.” Danny bit back the embarrassment he felt at admitting that. Tim was rich-rich and never had to worry about things like bills. “Ghost hunting doesn’t really pay. My parents are at least good engineers so they can fix our own appliances and vehicles. Sometimes dad or mom will fix stuff for the neighbors for some extra money.”
Tim hummed in understanding and didn’t push the issue. “How did they even get into ghosts to begin with?”
“If we ever end up in the same place, you are not allowed to ask that directly to my parents. Don’t mention ghosts at all. They won’t stop talking for hours. As for how they got into it… Dad’s always believed in the supernatural. He could’ve just as easily started tracking big foot or the Loch Ness Monster. But he met mom in university and she was stuck on ghosts. Dragged him in, too. And he’s obsessive. Once he decides on something, that’s it.
“They were both studying the supernatural and had to decide what to focus on for their doctoral research. Mom’s hated ghosts since she was a teenager. Apparently she and a friend were dared to go into a haunted house one Halloween. She doesn’t talk about it much, but her friend died that night. She blames the ghosts and has dedicated her life to hunting them ever since.”
Tim clicked his tongue. “Wow. It almost makes sense with that back story.”
Danny snorted. “Ghosts aren’t real. I dunno what killed her friend, but it wasn’t a ghost. Wish they’d decided to hunt Bigfoot instead.”
“Really? Why do you say that?”
Danny looked out his window and stared at the setting sun. “If they were hunting bigfoot, we’d probably go camping more often. And I like camping. You get the best views of the stars that way.”
“What’s your favorite constellation?”
“That’s like asking who my favorite Star Trek character is! There’s too many to choose. But do you know the folk history of Polaris? It’s why I chose my username.” Danny talked to Tim about the stars and space until Alfred called him away for dinner. They made plans to talk online again later.

Next
Now, I have a question for y'all. I was planning on finishing the entire work then publishing on a once a week basis until finished (or twice a week if I had more chapters than I expect). I've got the first chapter mostly done, just need to rewrite one section and change a few lines elsewhere. I also have the next 1.5 chapters mostly done on a first draft. I could start posting now, but I can't guarantee a posting schedule and I'll probably have to take a hiatus or two as I plan to get a new job and move sometime in the next few months.
So my question, do you want me to post now or wait? It'll probably be several months if not a year before I finish depending on how long I take and how many other projects catch my eye.

Danny and Marinette returned to the school after escaping the crazed fruitloop's lair.
"Thanks, um, um, um? What do you call yourself, Danny?" Marinette asked, wondering what Danny would call himself in this new superhero costume.
'well, I don't know. I wasn't that good at coming up with my superhero identity, but I think I'll call myself Phantom Pegasus," Danny said.
"Not a bad name," Marinette told him.
Danny just shrugged before she looked at the ghost boy with a serious look. Danny wondered why Marinette was giving him this look before she spoke to him.
"Danny, I think we need to talk," Marinette said as Danny looked at her with the same serious expression.
"Yeah, I think we need to talk about this," Danny agreed.
"So, do you trust that I can keep your secret of being Danny Phantom?" Marinette asked.
"If you can trust me to keep your secret of being Ladybug," Danny answered.
The both of them nodded and smiled.
"So, can you tell me how you became Danny Phantom?" Marinette wanted to know how he became the ghostly superhero.
"It was a year ago I went into my parent's ghost portal and accidentally turned it on that gave me these powers," Danny began to explain. "I think I pressed an on button inside the portal or something,"
"Why would someone put an on button inside the portal?" Marinette was confused about why someone would do that.
"I think my dad put the on button in the ghost portal, but that's not important. Anyway, Sam and Tucker were there when I got my powers and helped me in any way they could to capture ghosts, help me practice my powers, or cover me when I had to deal with a ghost. Then my sister found out later, and she helped me out as well," Danny explained.
Marinette felt jealous that Danny's friend got to know his secret, but she couldn't.
"Do any of your friends know your Ladybug?" Danny asked Marinette.
"No, I can't tell anyone that I'm Ladybug, including my friends," Marinette said sadly.
Danny felt sorry for Marinette, unable to tell anyone that she was Ladybug. It would not have been good if he had been in the same situation.
"I'm sorry to hear that, Marinette. If I were in your position, I wouldn't know what to do," Danny felt bad for Marinette.
"I don't know what I'm master Fu is going to say when I tell him that you know that I'm Ladybug," Marinette was now worried about what will happen.
Danny put his hand on Marinette's shoulders to calm her down. "Marinette, it's going to be okay. Maybe we can go to Paris and talk to this Master Fu and make a deal that I won't say anything about you being Ladybug," Danny told her.
"But what about that ghost that caught us?" Marinette asked.
"Even though Vlad is a crazy fruitloop, I think your secret will be safe. Because we made a deal," Danny told her, which made her slightly relieved.
"With that said, and down. What do we do now?" Marinette asked horse theme hero.
"Since the dance may be over, we should go home now," Danny said as Marinette nodded.
Danny was about to call his parents before remembering that he was still in his Phantom Pegagus costume. So Danny asked how to de-transform back to normal.
"Said Kaalki dismount," Marinette told him.
Danny did what he was told and de-transform back. Kaalki was now floating by his side.
"I can't believe you are a Halfa. This is the first time I teamed up with a halfa before," the horse Kwamii said. "You may not be as gallant as some of the other holders I had in the past, but you were a true gentleman to hold Marinette like that."
Danny blushed at the complaint that the small horse was giving him.
"Okay, Kaalki, that's enough. We don't want to give Danny a big head," Marinette said.
Danny gave the Miraculous back to Marinette, and she put it back in her purse. He then began to call his parents to pick them up from school.
After a few minutes, Marinette remembered that Danny wanted to ask her something before they were interrupted by Skulker. "Danny, what did you want to ask me before Skulker showed up?" Marinette asked.
Danny gulped loudly, nervous about asking Marinette to be his girlfriend. He took a deep breath to get the word he needed to say. "Marinette, I think you are cute, funny, and great. I want to ask you if you want to be my girlfriend. I'm okay if you say no because it's your choice,"
"I-I-I don't know, Danny. It would take me forever to get over Adrien, and I think you are sweet, funny, and cute. So I guess I'll give you a chance," Marinette gave Danny a small smile.
"Yes!" Danny cheered as he hugged Marinette.
Marinette blushed and chuckled at the excited ghost boy.
"Ah, that's sweet, but it's time for you and your girlfriend to return to your cages, little badgers," Vlad said with a smirk.
Vlad floated down and charged a pink ball of energy from his hands. "Give me the Miraculous now, or I'll tear you two apart."
Danny stood next to Marinette, protecting her from the crazy fruitloop. Before he could fire his ectoblast at them, something hit him instead. Vlad turns around to see that it is Jack driving and Maddie holding onto a large blaster out the window. Maddie shot another blast at Vlad, but he deflected the shot with his hand.
"Ha! You think that your little toy can handle me?!" Vlad said
Before Vlad could do anything, he began to disappear in the green portal that sucked him in.
"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" Vlad scream as e disappears into the portal.
Jack stopped the Rv, and Maddie went over to check on Marinette and Danny. "Are you alright, Danny, Marinette?" The blue jumpsuited woman asked the two teens.
"We're alright, mom. Thanks for the save," Danny said.
"It's no problem, Danny. We are doing our jobs as ghost hunters and parents," Maddie brushed off.
Danny and Marinette when into RV and went home, not worrying about Vlad for a while.
I know I didn’t make a fight scene with Danny and Marinette, but I couldn't think of any good ideas. So anyway, Dannette is a thing now! Yay!

“One day, Phantom changed, or did he, really?”
Or, Danny is taking a test he isn't aware of ever having signed up for.
-
When Danny woke up, nothing seemed out of the ordinary. That should’ve been a sign of something amiss.
The previous night, he had been, rudely, awoken by Johnny and Kitty when they decided Amity had to be their dating spot again, at 2am in the morning. Whoever ever uttered that the dead sleep forever were clearly wrong.
It hadn’t been much of a fight, luckily. The couple genuinely just wanted to have some harmless fun riding and sitting around. Shadow even smiled at him. Johnny’s familiar was never able to lie about their emotions or intentions, which were, by extent, Johnny’s.
By then, already feeling guilty for impeding on their date, Phantom left them to it and drifted back home slowly. While there was no fight, regularly sleeping just four hours a night was bound to have some side effects. Unfortunately espresso shots only did so much.
So, color Danny surprised when he woke up fine. Better than fine, actually. He felt energized in a way he hadn’t felt in months, since Christmas Truce. Again, that should’ve tipped him off, but Danny was not one to look a gifted horse in the mouth.
The halfa shot a quick look at his bedside alarm – 7am – he could work with that. If he had to use some ghost perks to speed up the process, no one would be any the wiser.
He quickly pulled on some casual clothes, you can never go wrong with a NASA hoodie and black trousers, before he sped for the bathroom. He was in and out and down to the kitchen like lightning.
‘Thank god mom and dad are only ever down the labs or in their room.’ He thought as he grabbed a quick bite.
The house felt empty.
It has for the past year or so, ever since Jazz left for college some states over.
Soon – Danny thought. In just one more year, he will be able to leave this house behind as well.
He quickly scarfed down the rest of his breakfast and left silently like the wind.
Once outside, he stepped into a familiar alleyway and let his transformation wash over him. He flew high up into the sky.
His itinerary towards Casper high was practically second nature, and he let his body take the lead as he looked around, down at Amity.
Ghost attacks have become less frequent, but visits were becoming more common. It would still take some time before the citizens actually understood that, though. So Phantom was still as busy as ever. Just thankfully, less beat up.
At a distance, down below, a student running late felt a shift in the air. She looked up at the sky and saw... an anomaly.
She pulled her phone out of her pocket and hastily tried to take a picture. Once shot, the entity was glitchy as fuck.
She pulled up Twitter and put out a quick tweet before hurrying on.

Danny slipped into his seat at the back of Lancer’s class with two minutes to spare. Most of the class was already present.
Lancer walked in and proclaimed it, “Too early to deal with this,” and started the class without marking attendances. The last few students came in a few minutes after without much fuss from them or their teacher, and class went on as normal. If the students seated near Daniel Fenton felt chills on their back, no one made a sound.
‘It can’t be coming from him. Not from that whimp.’ were their collective thoughts.
Puberty may have stretched him out and he may be quite fit, but his baggy clothing made sure no one would be aware of it. Sometime when he was fifteen Danny realized how badly his identity was hidden. He made an effort starting then, and it has been working well. No one suspected a thing, no one but Wes, of course.
Classes came and went. Students got increasingly creeped out near Danny Fenton of all people, for whatever reason.
Lunch came around.
It was just the second week since the start of the school year and Danny was already tired of it. Lunch breaks and free periods they shared being his only salvation. Such as right now.
The universe still seemed against Danny, for some reason. When they received their timetables for the first semester Team Phantom was thoroughly pissed. They barely had any classes together, the ones which they did share, were the only classes they took where there was only one class. They must’ve caught on that Sam and Tucker were covering for Danny’s ‘extracurricular activities’, and, fair. But it sucks.
While walking through the halls towards the cafeteria, he couldn’t help but notice the other students all stepped away a bit more than usual. Couldn’t help but overhear some whispers.
Do you think it could be because of some creepy shit his parents have been pulling? They have a PORTAL in their basement, don’t they?
Maybe you’re right... God, he may be a loser but I kind of feel bad... Shit! He’s near, shh.
If Danny didn’t know any better, he would’ve thought he was back in his freshman year. Actually, that might be the case. He wouldn’t put it past Clockwork to send him back in the past without warning. But their comments do not add up, at all.
Making his way past the rows of lockers a bit faster, he quickly arrived at the cafeteria. He went up, got some food and sat down at their usual table. The other two were already there.
“Do I have something weird on my face or something? Do I have ectoplasm scarring I missed?” was his greeting.
Sam and Tucker looked up from their food and stared at him with unreadable expressions. Eventually Sam scrunched her brows in confusion when that emotion won the inner battle.
“No... but if people have been avoiding you I can understand why. No offense, but you feel insanely unapproachable. Any idea what could’ve caused it?” The goth spoke with little emotion in her voice. It might’ve been a subconscious effort to not set off this anomaly- no, her friend, she had to remind herself. Why?
Tucker wanted to join in on the conversation, but his throat was locked. Why? This is his best friend! He could only settle for nodding with an identical quizzical expression on his face.
Danny sighed, and sat down frustrated. They continued their lunch, ignoring the elephant in the room. They tried to chat normally. They talked about the upcomming DOOMED game and the co op session they had been planning for ages, since its reveal. Lunch proceeded normally. If Sam and Tucker still felt on edge, they did not let Danny know. They shouldn’t.
-----
Danny was at P.E. His last period of the day and light at the end of the tunnel. Aside from the avoidances all around, his day had gone smoothly. Of course, that’s when everything went wrong.
As he reached the end of the obstacle course, alarms blared. The ones signaling a ghost attack, yeah, those.
After three years of ghost attacks, everyone had become used to the procedure and thankfully quickly left the gymnasium, to the safety zones, belongings forgotten. Danny was with them, until he wasn’t.
While walking, running, with the crowd, he silently left them and slipped into the bathroom invisibly and intangibly. He transformed, and left in the same state.
He took the malevolent ghost – a new one, huh – by surprise and tackled the both of them to the outside, somewhere safer and less destructable.
The ghost sneered, something about not expecting the ghost child to show up so quick. It was rare to meet a ghost out here who was unaware of the fact Phantom attended Casper high as a human.
Below, some people ran. Other passerby stopped in their tracks instead, gawking up at the two ghosts. Was that Phantom?
The teenaged ghost looked familiar, yet so different, so distant, hazy, unapproachable. If people claimed this is the one ghost you could always trust to help you, people would not have believed it. Few people’s hands subconsciously headed for their phones.
In the air, the ghost got ready to launch an attack, until they looked up and tilted their head.
“You are the ghost child, right?”
“Phantom? Yeah, who else? Now come on, let’s do this dance quick so I can head back. Some of us actually have something to do with their afterlife.”
The other ghost was still clearly thrown off, they shook their head and readied themselves again. Whatever was going on was weird, Danny had decided that hours ago, but it just became even crazier, if ghosts were affected too.
His solution was to ignore the issue. If he did not pay it any mind, it would go away on its own, and hopefully not bite him back in the ass.
He took advantage of the ghost’s confusion. He shot a quick ectoblast at their chest and sucked them into the thermos. After sealing them, he darted back towards the school.
Once inside, he noticed the students packing their bags and leaving. When he got near them invisibly, someone less attentive wouldn’t have noticed anything odd. Danny saw that they became tense and rigid.
He ignored the ever-growing enigma and ran the facts through his mind. Right, it was last period. The area must’ve been declared safe and they’d been dismissed early.
No one noticed, or cared about, his absence as usual.
Danny did a quick one over of the entire school building before heading towards the gymnasium. Thankfully there were no damages inflicted in between the ghost’s arrival and the time he took to transform and push them out.
He gathered his things and sped back home, ignoring the dread gnawing at the back of his mind.
Meanwhile, Amity’s filtered side of social media was ablaze.

dannyuta for the ship asks!
Oooh yay!!! This made me want to come up with some dopey DannYuta AU.
Gives nose/forehead kisses - Yuta, particularly when Danny is being a brat or annoying.
Gets jealous the most - Danny gets like petty jealous ("Did he really have to try and pin you like that?") whereas Yuta gets like. Actual jealous ("If he 'accidentally' touches your ass during media again I'm gonna kill him.")
Picks the other up from the bar when they’re too drunk to drive - Yuta picks up Danny.
Takes care of on sick days - Danny is surprisingly good at taking care of Yuta when he's got an injury, but they both suck when it comes to helping with colds or flus and end up isolating for any little bug.
Drags the other person out into the water on beach day - Danny throws Yoots over his shoulder and suplexes him into the water.
Gives unprompted massages - Danny gives them at any time as a seduction technique but when Yuta does it (if Danny asks) it's weirdly clinical and he begins rambling about good stretches and Danny's like, "Thanks, babe. I have never had less of a boner than right now."
Drives/rides shotgun - I think Danny drives when it's just the two of them, but if other people in the car Yoots takes over because he backseat drives.
Brings the other lunch at work - They are both good friends with DoorDash
Has the better parental relationship - Ooh. I feel like Yuta would be the guy everyone wants to bring home to Mom.
Tries to start role-playing in bed - Danny obviously. He can lean into it easily but Yoots is like, "Okay, I get that I'm a pirate and you're the naval captain trying to capture me, but why would we end up having sex?" "Because it's a sex roleplay, dude." "But like. In the story. What would be the reason in the story." "The story is I'm trying to get that booty, Wheels, just roll with it."
Embarrassingly drunk dancer - Yuta can't dance and we and Danny love him for it.
Still cries watching Titanic - Both of them. They try to hide it, though.
Firmly believes in couples costumes - Neither. One time they tried a couples costume and argued so hard about who would get to be Leia and who would be Han they gave up and went as ghosts.
Breaks the expensive gift rule during Christmas - Danny
Makes the other eat breakfast - Yuta. "Danny, preworkout is not breakfast." "It is if you eat it before 10am."
Remembers anniversaries - Danny remembers anniversaries, Yuta remembers birthdays, neither of them remember other people's.
Brings up having kids - Danny, but as a, "So, if we want kids, how does that work? Do I ask one of our friends to borrow a uterus or something?" They end up adopting a six year old when they're older and teach the munchkin wrestling moves as an incentive for them to go to sleep. They're unconventional dads, but their kid makes two years worth of reading progress in six months of school, so no one can fault them.
