One of the things I really appreciate now about Across The Spider-Verse’s ‘production design’ is how dark they made Miguel’s main ‘areas’ in the Spider-Society tower, both his control room and that canon display field.

Whatever they’re called. but anyways, of course, they’re dark and blue bc that’s Miguel’s whole thing, but even in the context of his powers, it’s brilliant

see, while Miguel’s abilities are similar on paper to other Spider-People, in execution, they’re wildly different bc Miguel wasn’t bitten by a spider, but rather, had a spider’s DNA imprinted into him via your usual wacky comic book mad scientist experiment shenanigans. so while Miguel does have enhanced senses - spider-senses, if you will - they also have the drawback of being highly sensitive. his sight, for example, is strengthened, being able to see perfectly in the dark, but at the same time, it’s also intensified, meaning if he ever goes into the daylight or if a light is too bright

so whenever he has to go outside in public, he’s gotta wear sunglasses

and THAT’s why his room is so dark. I swear the attention to detail is impeccable in these films.

post-reconciliation, they are SO excited to date each other, but neither of them are prepared for what it means to actually be the other’s boyfriend.

they think they are. Kim spoiled and indulged Chay before, Chay flirted with Kim ‘til kingdom come. they’re so ready for this.

they are Not.

Kim opens to Chay like a sunflower does to the sun. All those times he watched Chay wave his hands around while he talked and ached to kiss his fingers? Kim’s doing that now. The urge to curl up against the broad span of Chay’s back and soak up his warmth? Kim’s draped over him like a cat in a patch of sunlight. All those snatches of songs that came to him when he thought of Chay? Chay hears them, reads them, feels them. Kim’s no longer holding back every time he aches to reach for Chay (why would he? last time he did, he lost Chay. he’s going to drink up every bit of him that he can, now).

Chay’s always been bold, but it’s turbocharged after they begin to date. He used to be careful in how he pushed with Kim, he could tell Kim was skittish before. But now? When Kim welcomes it? Chay’s not stopping. Multiple texts throughout the day when Chay’s thinking of him—not anything Kim has to respond to, just pictures of clouds or animals or silly signs that Chay wants to share with him. Responses to every single one of Kim’s song pieces and more of his own originals—music is their favorite language. Constantly tells Kim “I like you :D” which flusters him even more than “I love you”—Kim knows what it’s like to be loved, he hadn’t always been so sure that he was liked.

after they begin to date, Kim is voracious, Chay is relentless. they like each other so much.
