i don't have a proper DNI, just don't be a hateful person and it'll be fine. my only hard limits are nazis, incels and right-wing conservatives. however, i know that none of those groups will read my DNI let alone respect it so it's more of a warning that if i find out you're one of those things, you'll be blocked on sight
BYF: i'm a very rigid person when it comes to tagging, so i add a lot of tags to almost everything i post/reblog; blocking them and avoiding certain types of posts should be very easy. i also tag common triggers, so don't worry! however, if you need something else tagged or if i forget something don't hesitate to ask me to tag those things
additionally, if you're wondering why most art i reblog is tagged "amazing art!" aside from #art or #fanart, it's because as far as i know those drawings are made by the person posting it. it's a good way of keeping track of amazing artists in tumblr! the ones that don't have this tag are either official art or credited reposts
also, as a little warning, i dislike the q word a lot. i have nothing against people that use it for themselves as long as they can reclaim it, but you probably won’t see me using it most of the time because it makes me uncomfy. this is also the reason why i use the word ‘lgbt’ to talk about the whole community, i prefer it far more than ‘lgbtq’. please respect this and thanks for the understanding

SPOP Character Typing: Catra
Tumblr media
ESFP, 6w7, 684, sx/sp
I originally mistyped Catra as an ESTP, even though I didn’t want to be one of the people who think every ESFP who isn’t a core 7 is an ESTP. It’s also funny because I got an ask about this just after I had been thinking about it for a couple of days, and I guess that’s what made me really make up my mind about it. I know that fictional characters are sometimes not completely consistent, but now I do feel like ESFP is a better fit for Catra. I suppose my mistype came from looking at things too generally, because I know a lot of xSTP people who’ve had similar struggles at school as Catra does in the Horde. What I said about her being an easy one to type by stereotype alone still stands: Se-dominant characters are the most likely to be cat-coded. Extroverted sensing is the function we tend to associate with cat-like grace of movement and somewhat feral nature. Not always true of course, but there is a pattern in real life. I also said that Catra is an interesting case for me because I thought she has an identical personality profile to someone I know very closely, but also wildly different life circumstances. Well, that person is an actual ESTP, and I shouldn’t have ignored the feeling that they were too different to have an identical typing. I usually tell people that if it feels like a type doesn’t quite fit, you should listen to that feeling. I’m taking my own advice now.
Catra is also interesting because, much like with Adora, her MBTI and enneagram core almost contradict each other in some ways, Se-dominant types being very spontaneous and Enneagram 6 being very cautious.
MBTI: ESFP
Tumblr media
Catra lives first and foremost through her senses. She wants to see things, taste things, touch things, and blow things up. Part of the reason she pulled the lever was to see what would happen, like Noelle said. She’s an Se-dominant, so she is in a way, in a more direct relationship with reality that most other types. And by reality, I mean the world we can access through our senses in its “purest” form, the kind of world that is just the experience, where nothing has yet been abstracted from it and nothing has been coloured with values yet. Catra is very street-smart and able to use almost any kind of environment to her advantage, and I originally though about this in terms of Se-Ti because I always associated this type of intelligence with xSTPs the most. However, it does make sense for an ESFP to go about things like she does, because they are in a way, even more instictive than xSTPs because they analyse less. Her attention is in “what is right now” rather than what should or could be in the past or the future. All Se-doms are in a way more instictive than other types in a physical sense. (Not to be confused with enneagram gut-types.) “Hungry -> eat”, “Tired -> sleep”, “Glittery item -> possess it”, “Neat cliff -> jump it” is a caricature of how they operate, being driven by sensory impulses.
ESFPs are also often at risk to be alienated by a school system, not just ESTPs. School systems tend to be mostly created by and for Si-dominant and auxiliary types (because they are the most common types) and this can be seen in Catra to the extreme. Rules don’t make sense to her, because she’s more practical than the rules, in a lot of cases. I associated her problems with high Ti, because I’ve seen so many times how an ESTP underachiever cares nothing about school because their way of thinking is not appreciated, even though they have the intellect for the work, and once they find something that motivates them, such as, wanting to get into a particular school, they are able to get their grades up with a snap of fingers, basically. However, ESFPs are just as likely to be understimulated at school as xSTPs are. And now that I think about it, I don’t really see Ti in Catra, because she’s not really interested in the logic or the “art” of combat itself, she just wants to get things done, which is more of a Te thing. It’s not very graceful because it’s her tertiary function, although she makes pretty much the most of it during the show. She needs freedom to make the most out of her talents, which is true of all Se-doms, and that’s part of the reason why climbing the ranks in the Horde is so appealing to her once she finally gets the chance. Catra is more capable and talented than her peers in a lot of things, and yet she’s the least valued in the beginning of the show. Now that I think about it more closely, she does seem to react to it in a more ESFP than ESTP way.
While I thought all this was well characterized by the combination of being Se-dominant and Ti-auxiliary in a world of arbitrary rules and made up traditions, I was generalizing too much. Catra is not detached enough to be a Ti-auxiliary, and she’s not analytical enough. Her disregard for people’s feelings doesn’t come from the xSTP way of being able to ignore their humanity, it comes from Fi passion. She’s not detached at all. She’s so hurt that it would be more fitting to say she’s commiting crimes of passion. She’s not doing all the damage in the show because she’s detached from her feelings, she’s doing it all because she’s consumed by them. She’s obsessed with Adora in a way that is characteristic of a high Fi user. I associated the way Catra is bored in the Horde with ESTPs but that’s not necessarily true, it’s a common experience for Se-doms in general. I thought Catra’s actions were not value-based enough, but they are. I just didn’t think of it that way, because I’m used to thinking of values as bigger than one person... but that’s not necessarily true. All that matters to Catra is basically Adora, and she’s willing to sacrifice anything for their relationship, and when she’s betrayed, she’s still all about Adora. I thought she was a rebel without a cause, like an ESTP would be, but actually she has a cause. It’s just that her cause is basically one person. It’s very personal and self-centered in a way, she just wants to have the relationship that is the most important to her. I suppose as an Ni-dom I tend to understand value decisions in a larger context, but that’s not true to someone whose attention is not in “understanding the world” anyway. I actually understood this through writing about another character who is an ESFP, and I don’t know how I didn’t see their similarities before. However, what I said about Catra and Adora not understandin each other because following the rules in rewarding to Adora in itself, and not for Catra, is still true. I was just generalizing too much again.
Tumblr media
Catra’s primary mode is not to live according to a plan, but she can easily generate a step by step strategy when the situation calls for it. And the way she does it, is indeed more Te than Ti, because it’s indeed more strategy, and Ti is more tactic. This is where her power as a military leader is coming from. She’s very adaptable to new situations, but she also knows when you can’t just “wing it” and she’s able to see the path from A to B in a more situational way than a Te-Si would and more practically than Te-Ni type would, because she’s not actually seeing a path from A to B. She’s seeing a path from a specific rock to a specific tree, to put it very simply.
I wrote about how ESTPs tend to be very charismatic, but in a less controlled, more childlike manner, than Fe-doms or auxiliaries are, and I think this was the part of my typing that struck me as a bit off the most. I found myself kind of struggling to come up with explanations of how Fe is Catra’s third function. I was mostly thinking of basically ruling Crimson Waste, but now that I think about it again, she’s more Te than Fe in that too. Popularity is a tool for her more than it is something inherently rewarding. And I mean, it’s not like people are somehow less drawn to ESFPs. When all is swell, people like Catra, because she has an easy-going and sociable manner. (And Fe-users don’t have a monopoly on that or something.) However, she lacks nuance and tact. But I don’t think this is because she’s a low feeler. It’s because she’s over-identifying with her Te. Trying to be tough because she’s been hurt so much. She has been manipulated through her feelings a lot by Shadow Weaver and she’s basically learned that being soft and trusting in a weakness. And while it’s true that some high Fe-users read her like an open book it’s not necessarily because she’s even trying to play their game. Sure, every type can be manipulative, it’s not an Fe thing and Catra is certainly manipulative herself but feelings are not a tool for her. I basically did what I criticized people of doing with Adora. I mistook Te for Fe.
What Catra lacks most in her life is direction and meaning. Her inferior function is Ni. She mostly goes with the flow, and it’s easier for her to disregard things like large scale morality, than it is for many other types. At her worst she simply seems to go after what gets her the highest high, the biggest adventure, the most powerful position or the most wealth, with little regard to how it might affect anyone else. But like I already said, Catra doesn’t do it because people are not on her radar. It’s because she cared too much and it got her nowhere. Se-doms often do go about life picking the next interesting thing they can do, and after they’ve done it, they’re like: “Okay. That was that. What’s next?”, so that is Catra’s primary mode too, when she’s detached from her inferior function. They don’t have a long term plan for their life, and often end up acquiring a ton of skills but they have no “core idea” or goal they could direct all those skills towards, and they wander aimlessly through life.
When Se-doms are really unhealthy, it may look like they have a goal (Catra wanting to win so badly she almost destroyed the world because of it) but in reality, it’s a hollow one. It doesn’t really have any meaning, beyond their fixation on it. It’s a caricature of what a driven introverted intuition dominant would be: Shadow Weaver, as terrible as she is, has an intricate, overarching vision and everything she does contributes to it, and she sees miles farther that most other people, all different branches of her plan coming together at the end (whether she’s really able to make it happen or not) while Catra is, for the most part, just reacting to everything that is thrown at her.
Tumblr media
It’s very satisfying that a “promise” is brought to such a central place in Catra’s development at the end of the show, because it implies that she has begun to see beyond the moment, both to the past and to the future in a new way. It implies that she’s beginning to see an abstract reality, where a promise of the past can be fulfilled in the future even though she clearly thought that a promise once broken, could not be fulfilled. She didn’t see beyond the moment. But in the end, she does. Integrating Ni, essentially means to see a story. That everything that has happened to her, is not simply meaningless occurrences and also not just logical truths that follow the laws of cause and effect. It’s to see that the truth is different depending on where you’re standing. It’s to see that the same tree viewed from different sides by different people might as well be a completely different tree, and yet it’s still all the same. It’s to see that your reality is not the only reality, and that there is meaning to everyone’s subjective experience. And that’s what Catra needed to learn, in order to be able to live a life where she and Adora betrayed each other but despite that, can work on understanding each other and have a future.
Enneagram
Core type: 6
Tumblr media
Catra is cautious, suspicious, sceptical, and other people’s support and trust in her are primary needs for her. This is why she is interesting as an Se-dom. She needs freedom but not too much freedom. She hates rules but she wants them too. She has a heightened need for relationships where she is trusted and given responsibility, but she does not want to be left alone with that responsibility. She needs someone she can trust, to stand behind her to catch her if she falls, and when she doesn’t have that, she becomes angry and paranoid. On the other hand, she doesn’t want anyone butting in with her business because that’s a sign that she isn’t trusted to be capable of handling things. You have to be a very sensitive person to understand what is too much and what is too little support for them. Adora doesn’t understand what the boundaries are, while Shadow Weaver understands, and abuses them with purpose.
Trust and trust-issues tend to characterize the life of an average 6, and Catra has rather extreme circumstances, so her presentation of this is also rather extreme. She is sceptical and defensive to the extreme, qualities which most 6s would share. 6 is also possibly the most cat-coded enneagram type, which I find funny as well, especially because I had a cat who was clearly an enneagram 6. (I know animal-typing is controversial but roll with it.) My interaction with that cat was always like this: I try to pet him, and he acts like: “Go away, I hate you”. Then I go away, and he acts like: “Where are you going?????”. Then he follows me to the mailbox, which is 600 meters away from the house. If anything is 6 behaviour, it’s that. It’s funny because it describes Catra pretty well, too. They can fluctuate between the angriest and the cutest person alive.
Tumblr media
Especially counterphobic 6s. Every 6 probably fluctuates between phobic: more “deer in the headlights” type of 6, and counterphobic: more “a bear just woken up from hibernation” type, to some degree, but a lot of people lean more towards one than the other. Catra is definitely counterphobic most of the time. Instead of avoiding conflict with Adora, she seeks it out. And I think the funniest example is when they go to Krytis and Catra is visibly the most scared, but her first reaction is still to jump attack Melog, instead of running away. Of course, sometimes she behaves in a more phobic manner, but this seems to be her default setting.
Being enneagram 6 likely contributes to Catra’s struggle in the Horde, as especially counterphobic 6s are known to be “rebels without a cause”. That kind of matches with some ESTP qualities, so that’s probably one of the reasons I mistyped her as well. On top of being in a learning environment that doesn’t meet her needs, Catra is also in an environment that doesn’t meet her emotional needs. 6s need to believe, to have trust in something, be it a person, a family, a friend group, a belief system, or an organization. Of course, Adora is the only one who fulfills some of these needs for Catra in the beginning of the show, and when you’re the only one a 6 can trust, you’re literally everything for them, and that’s why the betrayal of that trust means losing everything, for them.
6 disintegrates to 3, so in times of stress, Catra becomes more self-sufficient and competitive (in a negative way). Really, a big part of the show is just Catra’s disintegration story. She’s not that well off in the beginning either, but we get to watch her descend to lower and lower health levels for the majority of the show. 6s integrate to 9, so at her best, Catra becomes cooperative, trusting, altruistic and rather than fluctuating with being too independent and too co-depended, she is able to create symbiotic relationships with others.
Wing: 7
Tumblr media
7 enhances many qualities of extroverted sensing. 7-wing makes Catra playful, energetic, fun-loving and a bit of a dare-devil. It also enhances her curiosity. Much like to extroverted sensing, to 7, variety is a plus. 7s fear being deprived of things they need to feel fulfilled, so as a wing it informs the 6’s decisions. Catra may not have it so well in the Horde, but at least she has a roof over her head and even Shadow Weaver is probably not going to kill her. That may seem like a low bar, but she has grown up with this. What reason would she have to expect that things would be better somewhere else? 7-wing, with a 6s tendency to fear the worst, makes Catra very unlikely to let go of any material comfort she has. Yes, she wants out, but she doesn’t want to just leave with nothing, so she’s eagerly waiting to have a real job in the outside world. She wants to see the unknown, but she’d rather face it inside a tank, than by going rogue and living in the woods by herself.
Gut fix: 8
Tumblr media
Fuels Catra’s aggressive side even more. 8s fear being controlled and harmed my others, and oh my, how Shadow Weaver has methodically magnified this fear in Catra as well. 8s deal with this mostly by being overtly aggressive, and they operate with “attack is the best defence” type of attitude. That’s why having an 8-fix, probably makes a 6 more likely to act in a counterphobic manner. If you control everything, then no one can control you, and that’s something Catra seems to attempt. So, when Catra can’t trust anyone around her, or can’t trust the system to work for her, and her safety or resources are under a threat, she tends to attack fast and aggressively.
Heart fix: 4
Tumblr media
There seems to be a bit of the 4-ish sense of being fundamentally different from others in a defective way, in the way Catra acts. 4s believe that their feelings are too unique and complex for anyone to understand, and they don’t even want anyone to understand, because their identity is depended on the sense of being different. It’s not very pronounced in Catra, but it shows up every now and then in the form of angst. Catra clearly gets something from wallowing in her negative feelings, as opposed to disregarding them, which is what Adora does, for example. Having a 4-fix makes Catra even more vulnerable in the emotion department, because her enneagram core and gut-fix already make her more unwilling to deal with her emotions, and then on top of that the 4-fix makes it easier for her to wallow in her insecurities than address them.
Instinctual Variant: sx/sp
Tumblr media
Sexual instinct is Catra’s primary instinct. She’s all about the other. The connection. Which to her, is mostly Adora, of course. But it goes deeper than that. It’s a desire to lose yourself into another, usually a person. In Catra, it comes out as feral energy in a fight. It comes out in the intensity and depth of her despair when she loses a personal connection she cared about. In other words, Catra is very passionate in an almost primal sort of way. Catra’s feelings are very intense, and that’s why in her eyes the only reason Adora would be able to leave her so “easily” could be that she doesn’t love her as much.
Self-preservation instinct is Catra’s second one. She’s not a princess who can feel a pea under a hundred mattresses, but she’s not the philosopher living in a barrel either. She sometimes whines about physical conditions being less than ideal, such as being cold, or being on ship, even though she can quite easily disregard those kinds of things when the situation calls for it. At her best, she’s also on the lookout for other people’s safety, and she’s aware of threats.
Social instinct is the one Catra lacks. Being in a group is not inherently meaningful or desirable to her. Having smooth relationships with others is not really a concern to her. Whether or not other people like her, is only meaningful to her once she herself likes the person in question. For Adora, this is the primary instinct, and Catra doesn’t understand it, which is part of the reason it’s so hard for her to accept the ways Adora acts. Of course, Catra develops this instinct to a degree by the end, in tandem with her need to find trust. It’s the Best Friends Squad, and to some extend the princesses, she is able to make meaningful relationships with. Although most of what drives Catra’s actions, is still about Adora, there are also instances when she acts on behalf of more than herself and Adora, when she sees some value in trying to “save the world”.
Tumblr media
That’s it for today, I believe. Hope it doesn’t take as long for me to get back to these posts, as it did this time. ^^’

She-Ra and the Princesses of Power: Entrapta - Type 5w6
Tumblr media
Entrapta is inventive, intelligent and curious. Entrapta loves to find out knowledge about the world and invent new things using her intellect.
At her best, Entrapta is kind to everyone she meets and genuinely wants to form friendships. She is optimistic and has a positive outlook on life moving on from setbacks quickly.
At her worst, Entrapta is lonely and easily manipulated. She has trouble processing social situations and other’s feelings, so she can be easily misled. For example, Catra convinced her that the Rebellion betrayed her which led to her joining the Horde.
Entrapta loves to learn and work with technology. She is constantly experimenting and trying to learn about the universe. Entrapta is shown that she cares about her research greatly and is very dedicated to it. Sometimes, this led her to make morally questionable decisions. For example, Entrapta was very interested in learning about the other worlds and portals so she was helping Hordak with his portal, even though she knew it was dangerous. It was only when she realised it would destroy the world that she wanted to stop.
Entrapta was never intimidated by anything, including Hordak. When she first meets Hordak she is more concerned with his technology and his plans for creating a portal than fearing him. Entrapta is very logical and understands that sometimes your experiments need to fail. She initially conflicted with Hordak on this view as he wanted to discard his failed experiments straight away. Entrapta is convinced that she herself is a failure, but believes it to be a good thing as failure is another way to learn. She believes that imperfections are necessary and tells Hordak his imperfections are beautiful to reassure him.
Tumblr media
While Entrapta comes across as emotionally detached and unaware of social norms, she actually cares deeply for the other princesses. She wishes that she could be friends with them. We later learn that she is so concerned with tech because she thinks that if she uses her tech skills she can be useful and people will like her. Entrapta longs for companionship and is actually quite lonely. She finds this with Hordak and tries to search for him on Horde Prime’s ship. Hordak is the first person Entrapta feels a sincere connection with and she values him deeply.
I think Entrapta has quite balanced wings, but leans more towards a 6 wing as she craves to form relationships with others. She also shows her wing 6 as she is more inclined to technical sciences, whereas 5w4s are more abstract and philosophical.
Tri-type: 5w6 - 2w1 - 9w8
Some quotes to describe Entrapta’s motivations
"Imperfection is what makes scientific experimentation possible! Imperfection is beautiful... at least to me."
“Fascinating, my roots seem to be responding to the code. This is remarkable. Could this be my biggest step yet in making ancient and modern technology truly compatible?”
“It's really fascinating. I've been experimenting with a disc that was recovered from a mine in Dryl. It was a game-changer. It held more complete First One's code than anything I've ever seen before. But it seems to have reacted with the First Ones tech that powers my bots. It infected them with some sort of a virus.”
“Destroy it? But the experiment isn't complete!“
“Different groups are forced to mingle. Hierarchies form and break. It's the perfect place to observe behavior. And they have tiny food! Where's Bow? I wanna show him my new recorder.”
“This is the best social experiment I've ever been to!”
“Of course I'm ok! Have you seen this place? An Island, full of technological monstrosities, each more deadly than the next? Its paradise!”
“This place.. It's pure information. Everything I've ever dreamed of knowing about the planet, it's all here. So I'm staying.”
“Everything back there with the princesses and then... with Hordak.. was so.. confusing. I just wasn't suited for friendship. I belong here.”

SPoP MBTI
I was browsing The PDB Community/Personality-Database and came across these. Do you match your favorite character’s assumed MBTI/Enneagram type? I have seen half a handful of INTJ Hordak fans. :D

I remember the minute It was like a switch was flipped— I was just a kid who grew up strong enough To pick this armor up And suddenly, it fit God, that was so long ago, long ago, long ago... I was little, I was weak and perfectly naive And I grew up too quick Now you won’t see all that I have to lose And all I've lost in the fight to protect it I won’t let you in, I swore never again— I can't afford, no, I refuse to be rejected
[...]
Here I am, pry me open What do you want to know? I’m just a kid who grew up scared enough To hold the door shut And bury my innocence But here's a map, here's a shovel Here’s my Achilles' heel I’m all in, palms out, I’m at your mercy now and I'm ready to begin I am strong, I am strong, I am strong enough to let you in.

she ra enneagram
adora - 2w1 “the helper + the servant”
seeking love through goodness
adora is a difficult case at first because the way she was raised and the things she was taught to value directly contradict her own internal wants and desires. she’s not only repressed in her romantic desires, but personal ones as well. she was taught to always put others first, not to value her own wants or emotions, and that love was simply not important. however, in season 5 especially we see that these are still her wishes deep down. her two visions - the one of mara (where, due to the nature of the scene, she is talking to her subconscious) and the future vision which shows her desired future - we see the things that deep down she wish she could have for herself are love and to be valued. she wants to be loved but was always taught that didn’t matter. she wants for her own desires and feelings to have value outside of what she can do for others
the base drive of the 2 is love, and their fear is that they are unworthy of that love. the 1 wing means that 2w1s will seek love through performing acts of goodness and morality. they are very inclined towards serving others, and have a strict code of ethics. their self standards are very high. when they’re upset, they tend to become very quiet and deal with their emotions internally (adora is a “punch your feelings out guy” but that’s the only way she was taught to cope with her feelings in the horde. she definitely struggles with verbalizing them and we see there’s a LOT she doesn’t want to put on others)
social variant 2s feel loved by being important to their friends and family. they fear being left out and left behind, so they try to make themselves indispensable. advisor is a good role for social 2s, frequently find themselves as “power behind the throne”. frequently start new relationships by offering acts of service. tend to be outgoing, high energy, and ambitious. has trouble with scattering themselves with too many commitments to people
2s, when under stress, start to openly express their anger, and can become controlling and dominating. their temper can get the best of them and they might become confrontational or lash out
.
catra - 6w7 “the loyalist + the buddy”
6s can be hard to type. they’re marked by their contradiction - they value trust, but are highly suspicious. they value their independence but fundamentally want security and support. they’re fearful but aggressive. endearing one second and hateful the next
the type 6s main drive is anxiety. at their core they seek security but frequently lash out against those who might give it to them. the 6w7, when healthy, is charming, sociable, funny, and curious. but when they’re unhealthy, they become self-contradictory, push away others by becoming impossible to please, are insecure, petty, and can develop inferiority complexes. they can be extremely paranoid and accusatory. like all 6s, their moods can wildly jump around because of their anxiety
the sexual variant of the 6 is very focused on their emotional bond with a partner. they can be seductive while also seeming rather rough and tomboyish. they’re very emotionally intense, and a lot of their anxiety stems from staying desirable to their partner. they can become suspicious and jealous over their partner, and also become quite emotionally volatile
6s also come in a spectrum between phobic and counterphobic. catra is definitely counterphobic. this means that she deals with danger by outright provoking it, often acting very outspoken or aggressive, in order to keep in control and get the upper hand. when unhealthy, a counterphobic 6 is edgy and restless. they have stake in hiding their nerves and insecurities. can seem like a “cool tough guy” type. more outright competitive than other 6s. frequently defiant and rebellious, while at the same time being extremely loyal and driven. might feel like the world has it out for them specifically. humor ranges from sarcastic and wry to hurtful
.
bow - 2w3 “the helper + the host”
sociable, extroverted, thrive in groups, take on projects to improve others well being, charming, heartfelt, good communicators, can be wrapped up in self image. can fall into deceit and manipulation
self preservation 2 - takes care of their own needs by first caring for other people. try to win love through nurturing and caretaking. good at anticipating others needs but feel as though that should be reciprocated and can succumb to loneliness and rejection when it isn’t
.
glimmer - 8w7 “the challenger + the maverick”
cheerful bravado, extroverted, ambitious, social partygoers, idealistic, risk taker, generous, funny. can become aggressive and glutinous, can struggle with addiction (which you could make the argument is why glimmer puts up with shadow weaver - the feeling of heightened power). can be temperamental, egotistical, and quick to anger. when unhealthy, can become explosive and violent
social 8 - highly value friendship and loyalty and expect others to do the same. gather friends around them with themselves as the leader. enjoy debating but don’t always realize when they hurt others feelings or overstep boundaries. might try to tone themselves down but don’t enjoy it. drawn to relationships with others they think are strong and independent who won’t be overwhelmed by them
.
angella - 8w9
entrapta - 5w6
frosta - 8 (wing still developing but possibly 8w9 when she’s older)
perfuma - 9w1
mermista - 4w5
sea hawk - 7w6
scorpia - 2w3
shadow weaver - 3w4 (very hesitant on this typing)
double trouble - 4w3
horde prime - 1w9

SPOP & The Enneagram
What is the Enneagram
Tumblr media
From one point of view, the Enneagram can be seen as a set of nine distinct personality types, with each number on the Enneagram denoting one type. It is common to find a little of yourself in all nine of the types, although one of them should stand out as being closest to yourself. This is your basic personality type.
Points about the basic type:
People do not change from one basic personality type to another.
Not everything in the description of your basic type will apply to you all the time because you fluctuate constantly among the healthy, average, and unhealthy traits that make up your personality type.
No type is inherently better or worse than any other. While all the personality types have unique assets and liabilities, some types are often considered to be more desirable than others in any given culture or group
Wings: No one is a pure personality type: everyone is a unique mixture of his or her basic type and usually one of the two types adjacent to it on the circumference of the Enneagram. One of the two types adjacent to your basic type is called your wing.
Your basic type dominates your overall personality, while the wing complements it and adds important, sometimes contradictory, elements to your total personality. Your wing is the “second side” of your personality, and it must be taken into consideration to better understand yourself or someone else.

Adora
Type Two with a One wing (2w1): "The Servant"
Tumblr media
Basic Fear: Of being unwanted, unworthy of being loved
Basic Desire: To feel loved
Key Motivations: Want to be loved, to express their feelings for others, to be needed and appreciated, to get others to respond to them, to vindicate their claims about themselves.
Twos are empathetic, sincere, and warm-hearted. They are friendly, generous, and self-sacrificing, but can also be sentimental, flattering, and people-pleasing. They are well-meaning and driven to be close to others, but can slip into doing things for others in order to be needed. They typically have problems with possessiveness and with acknowledging their own needs. At their Best: unselfish and altruistic, they have unconditional love for others.
Type Two Overview
We have named personality type Two The Helper because people of this type are either the most genuinely helpful to other people or, when they are less healthy they are the most highly invested in seeing themselves as helpful. Being generous and going out of their way for others makes Twos feel that theirs is the richest, most meaningful way to live. The love and concern they feel—and the genuine good they do—warms their hearts and makes them feel worthwhile. Twos are most interested in what they feel to be the “really, really good” things in life—love, closeness, sharing, family, and friendship.
Perhaps the biggest obstacle facing Twos, Threes, and Fours in their inner work is having to face their underlying Center fear of worthlessness. Beneath the surface, all three types fear that they are without value in themselves, and so they must be or do something extraordinary in order to win love and acceptance from others. In the average to unhealthy Levels, Twos present a false image of being completely generous and unselfish and of not wanting any kind of pay-off for themselves, when in fact, they can have enormous expectations and unacknowledged emotional needs.
Average to unhealthy Twos seek validation of their worth by obeying their superego’s demands to sacrifice themselves for others. They believe they must always put others first and be loving and unselfish if they want to get love. The problem is that “putting others first” makes Twos secretly angry and resentful, feelings they work hard to repress or deny. Nevertheless, they eventually erupt in various ways, disrupting Twos’ relationships and revealing the inauthenticity of many of the average to unhealthy Two’s claims about themselves and the depth of their “love.”
Type 2 with a 1 wing (2w1)
In Integration: Type 2w1s are the warm, generous, loving people you’d expect, with a shade of moral obligation and resolve thrown into the mix. Their desire to do good in the world and to meet the needs of others is amplified by the 1w motivation of correctness. Their generosity is often turned toward social justice and they truly wish to change the world for the better through their efforts. “They are often Good Samaritans, willing to take on thankless and unglamorous tasks that others generally avoid.” (The Wisdom of the Enneagram, Riso & Hudson, pg. 130)
In Stress/Disintegration: In stress, the 2w1 experiences the drive for perfection of Type Ones. They still want to be needed and give, but the 1w makes them think that they know best. Often, 2w1s in stress will begin to impose their “help” onto other people, intruding into their lives in order to tell them the correct thing to do. They can often seem preachy, going on and on about what they perceive to be right — in your life, not theirs — and rub others the wrong way. 2w1s in stress can also struggle with severely judging themselves. Type Twos have trouble recognizing their own feelings and needs, and the 1w makes them further think that personal desire is somehow wrong or selfish. They toil away for others but often resent the fact they are not recognized for their work. In extreme duress, the 2w1 can even begin to neglect their bodies, melding together the body shame of Type Twos and the strive toward physical perfection of Type Ones. This can lead to bodily neglect, eating disorders, or extreme exercise regimens.
Personal Growth Recommendations for Enneagram Type Twos
First and foremost, remember that if you are not addressing your own needs, it is highly unlikely that you will be able to meet anyone else's needs without problems, underlying resentments, and continual frustration. Further, you will be less able to respond to people in a balanced way if you have not gotten adequate rest, and taken care of yourself properly. It is not selfish to make sure that you are okay before attending to others' needs—it is simply common sense.
Try to become more conscious of your own motives when you decide to help someone. While doing good things for people is certainly an admirable trait, when you do so because you expect the other person to appreciate you or do something nice for you in return, you are setting yourself up for disappointments. Your type has a real danger of falling into unconscious codependent patterns with loved ones, and they almost never bring you what you really want.

She-Ra and the Princesses of Power: Glimmer - Type 8w7
Tumblr media
Glimmer is courageous, impulsive and caring. Glimmer really wants to fight for the Rebellion so that she can protect her home in Bright Moon.
At her best, Glimmer becomes less impulsive and more mindful of the consequences of her actions. She is a very loyal and supportive friend, as we see through her friendships with Adora, Bow and even Catra later.
At her worst, Glimmer can act without thinking of the consequences, leading to problems for the Rebellion and the rest of Etheria. For example, she goes against the wishes of Adora and the others to activate the Heart of Etheria because she thinks that it will destroy the Horde permanently.
8s do not want to be seen as weak or powerless, and we can see this clearly in Glimmer’s personality. She desperately wants to be taken seriously by her mother Angella and hates that Angella tries to shelter her from the world. Glimmer worries that people think she is a weak princess and wants to prove these assumptions wrong.
She often clashes with Angella, as she is much more active and reckless than her mother. In the early seasons, Glimmer would often rebel against her mother’s wishes because she wanted to fight for the Rebellion. Angella was deathly afraid of anything bad happening to her daughter because she had lost Micah, leading to her chastising Glimmer for her reckless behaviour.
Tumblr media
Glimmer wants to protect Bright Moon and is integral in re-establishing the Rebellion. She is a great leader and will make the difficult decisions when it is necessary. She is very protective of her friends and will do anything for them, even if it results in negative consequences for herself. For example, when Adora was about to get her mind erased by Shadow Weaver, Glimmer persevered in teleporting and saved Adora from Shadow Weaver. However, this resulted in her powers glitching, showing that she is very selfless at her core.
Glimmer often clashes with Adora when making decisions for the group, as both want to be the leader. This leads to tension between the two of them, as they have very different ways of approaching situations. Double Trouble is also able to recognise this and use it to distract Adora and Glimmer for the Horde.
Glimmer’s relationship with Bow shows some of her best and worst traits. Sometimes, Glimmer can be a bit self-absorbed and neglect Bow’s feelings. However, she would also do anything for Bow and tries very hard to repair their relationship in s5. Bow is also able to balance her out and keep her calm.
Glimmer shows her 7 wing as she is more impulsive than an 8w9 would be. She is also more playful due to the influence of her 7 wing.
Tri-type: 8w7 - 6w7 - 2w1
Some quotes to describe Glimmer’s motivations
“It's time for us to take back our home. Together we will push out the Horde, once and for all!”
“That's because you failed to make a successful observation check. If we're going to retake the pass, we have to be prepared for anything.“
“It's gonna be so much fun! And Princess Frosta is hosting it this year in the Kingdom of Snows! Her magic is incredibly powerful. She'd be a huge get for The Rebellion!“
“You're going about this all wrong. We're not going to win by sneaking. We gotta take the action to them!”
“No. I'm Queen Glimmer of Bright Moon, and you will leave my friends alone.”
“Welcome to the Bright Moon Armory! Well it's not really but I've been sneaking weapons and stashing them in here for months!“
“They're going to be sorry they ever tried to mess with Bright Moon.”
Glimmer: “I'm not going to hide inside the castle while our people are in danger. I'm the Queen. You don't give me orders.”
Bow: “Ok, I get that you're upset, but...”
Adora: “Don't talk to Bow like that.”
Bow: “Adora, it's fine, Glimmer's just...”
Glimmer: “I need to stop the Horde. Any way I can...We're done for today.”
Glimmer: “At least you have powers, which is more than I've got. But it doesn't matter. I don't need magic to fight!” Angella: “Glimmer, not only are you without your powers but you’re still glitching, it's too dangerous.” Glimmer: “But mom!”

She-Ra and the Princesses of Power: Adora - Type 1w2
Tumblr media
Adora is self-sacrificing, brave and noble. She always stays true to her values and does not compromise them.
At her best, Adora is brave and selfless. She fights for her friends and Etheria with valour. Adora is morally principled and doesn’t compromise herself. When she is not under stress, we can see Adora having fun and letting loose. For example, when she first escapes the Horde she enjoys herself at a party.
At her worst, Adora is rigid and stubborn. She can be a bit blunt and doesn’t have much of a sense for social situations. Adora can have a bit of a high and mighty attitude, coming across as she thinks she is better than others.
Adora is very compliant and is comfortable following rules. She enjoys order and is respectful of those in authority. Adora is very diligent in her training and works very hard. For example, while she was in the Horde, she was able to rise to the top of her class and quickly became promoted to force captain.
Adora is stubborn and forthright with her views. She has her ideas about what should be done and she is not shy with sharing these views. Adora will often be able to come up with plans and enact them. She has clear cut views of what she thinks the right course of action is in most situations. This causes her conflict with Glimmer, as she feels like Adora is calling all the shots.
Adora feels like she is responsible for everyone and everything around her. She puts a lot of pressure on herself and believes that if she makes a mistake it will be catastrophic. When she does make a mistake, she feels like she needs to fix it, and will even endanger herself in order to do that. For example, after she broke the sword, she continued to try and protect Etheria from Horde Prime troops, despite losing her ability to turn into She-Ra.
Adora looks for a purpose in her life and she finds this in She-Ra. 1s often search for purpose and meaning in their life. Adora wants to make the world a better place and she will often make sacrifices to try and fulfill her purpose. For example, she accepts the Heart of Eternia even though it is very likely to kill her. When Adora breaks the sword and can’t turn into She-Ra anymore she is upset because she feels like she doesn’t have the strength to fight the Horde. Even though she is significantly weaker without being able to turn into She-Ra she still believes that her purpose is to fight the rebellion and does all she can to help the cause.
Tumblr media
Adora’s relationship with Catra shows some of her best and worst traits. Firstly, Adora has an unbelievable ability to forgive and see the best in everyone. She believes that Catra is a good person, despite all the horrible things she has done, and doesn’t give up on her. On the other hand, she has a tendency to blame herself for other people’s actions. For example, she blames herself for Catra not joining the Rebellion, because she believes she wasn’t persuasive enough and she has some guilt over leaving her. However, she realises that she cannot fix everybody, and Catra had to take accountability for her actions and change herself.
I think that Adora has quite a heavy influence from her wing 2. She has a bit of a hero complex and wants the people around her to need her. We see this especially in her relationship with Catra. I think overall, she is more concerned with being a good person and doing the right thing. More specifically, a 2 needs to be needed and will often not sever ties in their relationships, however Adora is willing to sacrifice her relationships to do what she believes is right. An example of this is that she left the Horde (and Catra) because she found out they were evil.
Adora shows her wing 2 as she is more expressive and emotionally open than a wing 9 would be. She is also more outgoing and people oriented than a wing 9 would be.
Tri-type: 1w2 - 2w1 - 6w7
Some quotes to describe Adora’s motivations
“Catra, wait! I’m sorry for leaving, I couldn’t go back to the Fright Zone, not after I saw what the Horde was really doing. I never wanted to leave you…I know you’re not a bad person Catra”
“But that doesn’t change the fact that the Horde is evil. I had no choice, I couldn’t go back”
"I won't be controlled. I am not a piece of their machine. I am not a weapon. And I am going to end. This. NOW!"
“I don't fight for the First Ones. I fight for my home, for myself, and for my friends. Now for the last time: where is Catra?”
Adora: “I promised I'd take you home, and that's exactly what I'm gonna do. Why are you acting like this?! We saved your life!”  Catra: “I told you not to come back! But you just love feeling like a hero, don't you?”  Adora: “You'd rather I left you there to die?!”  Catra: “What do you care?! I know you all hate me!”  Adora: “I never hated you!”
Adora: “I am not giving up on you, Catra!”  Chipped Catra: “Then you're a fool. You cannot stop Horde Prime. He will reign triumphant over all the universe. It is...destiny--” [electricity zaps behind her at her chip, and Catra screams]  Adora: “No!”  Catra: “Adora...you should have stayed away. Why did you come back? We both know I don't matter...”  Adora: “You matter to me.”
Adora: “I’m saying, this is wrong. They've been lying to us, manipulating us. Hordak, Shadow Weaver, all of them.”  Catra: “Duh! Did ya just figure that out? Manipulation is Shadow Weaver's whole thing. She's been messing with our heads since we were kids.”  Adora: “How could you possibly be okay with that?”  Catra: “Because, it doesn't matter what they do. The two of us look out for each other. And soon we'll be calling the shots. Now, can we go home?”  Adora: “I'm not going home. Not after everything I've seen. Come with me. You don't have to go back there. We can fix this.”
Adora: “How could I let this happen?”  Bow: “Adora, it’s not your fault.”  Adora: “It is my fault. Entrapta’s gone because of my plan.”

She-Ra and the Princesses of Power: Scorpia - Type 2w1
Tumblr media
Scorpia is friendly, upbeat and cares deeply for others. She is selfless to a fault and always puts her needs behind those of others (especially Catra). Scorpia deeply fears rejection and just wants someone to show her affection.
At her best, Scorpia is a caring and loyal friend. Despite being a part of the Horde she never really showed any malice.
At her worst, Scorpia she neglects her own needs and has a tendency to be a bit of a doormat. She fears rejection so strongly that she can be easily led into doing something she doesn’t believe in.
Scorpia describes herself as a ‘hugger’ and prides herself on being a great friend. She is very affectionate with her friends and wants them to show her affection as well. Scorpia fears being rejected which can sometimes lead to her not sharing her true feelings for fear of alienating those she cares about.
While she is not the most competent fighter, Scorpia is very dedicated and works very hard. She was able to become a Force Captain and is often able to recite information from the orientation day. When she needs to Scorpia can effectively enact a plan, such as the ambush at the Princesses Prom.
Tumblr media
Scorpia always wanted to belong and be a princess, but never felt like she fit in. She wanted to be embraced by the other princesses but did not have the self-confidence. In the later seasons she begins to grow in self-confidence with the help of Perfuma. She begins to repeat a mantra of “I can do it!” to herself and is even confident enough to perform on stage.
Scorpia has always been super kind to the other people in her life, however, these feelings have not always been reciprocated. For example, she tries to be the best friend she can be towards Catra, but Catra doesn’t show her the same affection. This changes when she meets Perfuma, as Perfuma was, like Scorpia, kind to everyone. When Scorpia goes to Bright Moon, Perfuma immediately realises that she is there to help, not harm the Rebellion. Perfuma is the only person that makes Scorpia feel like her needs and feelings matter.
I think Scorpia has quite balanced wings as she shows traits of both 2w3s and 2w1s. Scorpia is more positive and extroverted like a 2w3, but she is also more insecure like a 2w1. I settled on 2w1 as I think she has more influence from 1 than 3.
Tri-type: 2w1 - 6w7 - 9w1
Some quotes to describe Scorpia’s traits and motivations:
"I am brave, strong, loyal, and I give great hugs. And I am going to be the best friend I can be!"
“Just so you know, I'm a hugger!”
“I know, I know, she said we're not friends anymore...but she didn't mean it. And maybe I misheard her, there was a lot going on. There was a cannon. Push down doubts and insecurities: check.”
“Ah, it's for the best. I mean, can you imagine? Me, a princess?”
“Come on, no guilt trip, it's for your own good. We can't let Catra see you, and right now? I'm bringing her a cup of my famous soothing tea. ...Old family recipe. If anyone could use a pick-me-up, it's Catra.”
“Are--are you okay? You don't look so good, I--have you been getting enough sleep?”
“There's nothing I can do for her...but maybe I can still help Entrapta.”
“Super Pal Duo is going to prom”
“Are you okay? Do you need first aid? Do you need to be nursed tenderly back to health?”

How MBTI & Enneagram affect character relatability
Tumblr media
I have a theory, and I’m going to illustrate it with the help of Adora and Shadow Weaver. I also have a personal story there.
Fun fact:
I share an MBTI type with Shadow Weaver (INFJ)
and an Enneagram type with Adora (Social 9w1).
(Not going to go into more specific subtypes right now.)
What makes this interesting to me, is how I am, in this case, pretty much a perfect example of how people tend to relate to fictional characters with similar Enneagrams, rather than similar MBTI types. My “evidence” is anecdotal of course, but I have noticed a pattern there. I think this tendency is at least one of the reasons behind some interesting phenomena in fandom and might set some light to questions like why some characterizations are more popular in fanfiction than others. (Such as why people write characters like Keith, Sasuke, Zuko and Catra as artsy emos.) But I digress. (Might get into that another time, though.)
I had watched SPOP about three times before it even crossed my mind that Shadow Weaver shared a personality type with me. While it was apparent to me the first time around, that I shared a personality type with Adora. So, why? Because one is a hero, and one is a villain, and I would rather identify with the hero?
That seems like a nice and clean answer, but I don’t think it’s quite that simple.
I think it has more to do with how I, and I think most people, relate to fiction from an emotional point of view. We tend to watch and read stories for emotional reasons, more than intellectual ones. Not that intellectual reasons don’t play a part, just that the driving force is often emotional. We’re looking to connect emotionally with the characters, otherwise we would be watching a documentary or reading a science book instead. At least that’s how it works for me, and in my experience, a lot of other people.
MBTI is about cognition, while Enneagram is about motivation. Sometimes I like to distinguish MBTI as your “intellectual type” and Enneagram as your “emotional type”. At least from that angle, it makes perfect sense, that we would relate to a character with a similar emotional type: a similar Enneagram, when we are immersed in something with our emotions.
And this is true of MBTI “thinkers” and “feelers” alike. I can’t count how many times I’ve seen INTPs claim Sherlock Holmes simply MUST be an INTP because they relate to him. When I first got into MBTI, I was guilty of that too. I thought every character I emotionally related to, was an INFJ. LOL, NOPE. I just didn’t know anything about Enneagram. After getting into that, I can easily see that the characters I most relate to, tend to have a very similar Enneagram type to mine.
Actually, it was the fact that I related to Adora so much that made me especially blind to the possibility that I might relate to Shadow Weaver in any way. That’s why I find this personal example so juicy. It’s because in the emotional dynamic between Adora and Shadow Weaver, I related to Adora a 100% and then some. I’ve had my Shadow Weavers, and reacted to them in a way a Social 9w1 will. We are people pleasers because we lack a solid sense of self, and we do exactly as we are told to avoid conflict, separation and loss (our worst fear).
Tumblr media
In the worst case scenario, we believe we need to constantly excuse our very existence.
(Like seriously, it can get ridiculous. When I was around ten, if I was at a friend’s house, I didn’t have it in myself to ask for a glass of water if I was thirsty. Even when it was offered to me without asking, I found it hard to accept, because I had done nothing to pay for that water. Even though I live in a country with the best access to clean water in the world, so one glass of water costs practically nothing.)
Given all that, it makes sense that I wouldn’t even consider relating to Shadow Weaver, because to me she very much represents everything toxic that I experienced as a child and needed to unlearn in adulthood.
But after taking a step back from that emotional angle, it’s pretty easy for me to see that cognitively speaking, I’m not Adora, who is an ESTJ. I’m pretty much the polar opposite. Which is Shadow Weaver, as weird as it feels to me.
As INFJs, we are very good at understanding another person’s psychological make up. We easily take anyone’s point of view and use that to influence the people around us. We don’t naturally gravitate towards the spotlight or a leadership role, we are at our most effective in one-on-one communication.
Obviously, Shadow Weaver uses all this to manipulate and abuse people, to get her way and her narcissistic supply. I use it to help my friends see their problems more accurately, and themselves in an encouraging light. (And to write fiction!) Shadow Weaver uses it to cause conflict between people by distorting their view of reality, I use it to ease conflict by an attempt to bring more clarity.
But that doesn’t mean we are not both INFJs, because we definitely are. Upon a closer look, I find many things about Shadow Weaver relatable.
She’s definitely an introvert driven by her internal vision, her idea of power, and she’s thinking leaps ahead, like she does the moment she sees Adora as a baby. (Ni) She’s a great communicator, but it’s more of a means to an end to her than it is a passion. (Fe) It seems like the very concept of power interests her more than what practical things she can do with it (Ti).
And her vision is SO MUCH BIGGER than her abilities. That’s exactly how I’ve felt my whole life, because inferior Se will do that to you. You don’t see the step-by-step approach to your GRAND VISION even though you can see the end result so clearly in your head that you swear you can touch it. Your insight can be so accurate that you can (deliberately, or accidentally) make people think you’re connected to some mystical higher power even though you’re mostly just full of sh*t (=ideas, abstractions).
It’s like, your whole life, you’ve been working towards one goal, one vision, that is just on the other side of a river, but you CAN’T FIGURE OUT HOW to get across. If you could JUST do that, then on the other side ALL your dreams would come true, everything you’ve worked for, for your entire life would COME TOGETHER in pure AWESOMENESS because you’ve been thinking, and planning and fantasizing and putting all of your mental energy into it, and just aching to get across that river. And then, a f*cking ESTP (Catra) shows up, farts a bridge, gets to the other side, and once they’re there, they have NO. CLUE. WHAT. THE F*CK. THEY. ARE. EVEN. DOING. THERE.
I’m getting carried away.
Emotionally, or, motivationally speaking I don’t relate to Shadow Weaver. Like, at all. I couldn’t care less about having power over other people. I can’t bear the thought of hurting another person. (I still cry at night sometimes because I once called my brother’s helmet “stupid” as a child, when he was annoying me.) I don’t need to be the most powerful or put others down in order to feel whole. The idea of hindering someone’s growth into their happiest and truest self is horrifying to me.
But still, my brain works similarly to hers. I’m full of ideas that are connected to the same big vision I’ve had my entire life, but getting there efficiently enough requires a lot more brain work and trial and error from me than some other types.
Emotionally speaking I relate to Adora so much. I get anxious if I’m not constantly doing something “useful”. I feel responsible for other people’s happiness. I feel tremendous guilt every time I have to say “no” to someone in order to rest and take care of myself. I feel like a failure when I’m not able to fix someone’s problem. I feel obligated to sacrifice myself because I “can”. When I was voted the least desirable girl in my class, I was just relieved it wasn’t anyone else, because I knew my friends would have shattered if it were them. (Hint: it wasn’t because I had better self-esteem. It was because my self-esteem wasn’t a concern for me in the first place.)
Tumblr media
And yet, I’m also nothing like Adora when it comes to cognitive make up. It would be interesting to dive deep into why the ESTJ 9 combination is totally fascinating for me, but this post is too long for that already.
My point is:
1) In terms of relatability in fiction, Enneagram might play a bigger role than MBTI.
2) Sometimes people get into heated arguments about a character’s type because they can only see a character they relate to, as their own type, and that’s intellectually dishonest. (As a personality junkie, I care.)
3) It’s OKAY to relate to a character with a different MBTI from you. MBTI is not everything. Enneagram is not everything either. There might be another reason.
4) Sometimes people seem to feel like they need to be like their favourite character in EVERY way, to justify their experience of relating to that character. Well, you don’t. Having the same cognitive type doesn’t automatically lead to the same motivational type, or the same life experiences, or the same relationship style or the same neurotype, or anything else. These can all be different, and your experience is valid no matter where the relatability comes from.
5) If you relate to a character, there’s a reason for it, and you’ll get the most out of it, if you try to discover that reason as honestly as possible and not automatically assume it must be your MBTI (or something else). Those four letters are not the most important thing about anyone, so you don’t need those to “claim” a character to your side of things.
6) You have no obligation to emotionally relate to a character with the same type as yours. I can assure you my feelings towards Shadow Weaver did not become any warmer after discovering we shared an MBTI type, and that’s okay too.

She-Ra and the Princesses of Power: Bow - Type 9w1
Tumblr media
Bow is friendly, supportive and avoidant. He is inclusive and kind towards all people and wants to help Bright Moon and the Best friend squad stay peaceful and safe.
I debated typing Bow as a 2 because he has a lot of 2 tendencies. However, I chose to type him as a 9 because I think his motivations are more in line with wanting to keep the peace than to help. 9s and 2s are very similar as they both put the feelings of others ahead of their own. 9s disintegrate to 6, whereas 2s disintegrate to 8, I think when Bow is in stress he acts more like a 6 (paranoid, scared, scattered) than an 8 (direct, assertive, reactive). Bow does really want to help people, but I don’t think his main desire is to be needed. I also think his whole lying to his dads about being a Rebellion fighter was more because he wanted to avoid conflict than anything else.
At his best, Bow is more self assured and knows what he wants. He begins to put importance on his own feelings and asserts himself to be more proactive about his opinions, while still caring about the needs of others.
At his worst, Bow becomes passive aggressive when he is unhappy with people. This can be seen with how he treats Glimmer after she activates Scorpio’s Runestone and the Heart of Etheria. He ices her out and doesn’t want to talk about how hurt he feels with the decisions she made. This is a tendency Bow has when dealing with any uncomfortable feeling or conflict he would rather avoid it than address the problem at the risk of saying things that will hurt those he loves or cause a larger rift.
Bow cares deeply about the feelings of others and will often put their needs above his own. This can be seen with his desire to please his fathers and continuing to go along with their beliefs that he wants to become a historian rather than telling them he wants to be a fighter. He perpetuates their thoughts as he never wants to address the topic with them and keeps placating them with stories of his time studying and learning about history. He doesn’t want to disappoint them and jumps to the worst case scenario that they will no longer accept him as he is not being the person they want him to be. When they find out about his double life and passion for fighting, he is very surprised that they are so accepting and care about what he really wants.
Tumblr media
Bow and Glimmer have a very strong relationship that continues to grow throughout the series. They are best friends and are loyal to each other. Bow often goes along with the plans of Glimmer and will tag along with her to support her when she is embarking on a new adventure. This can be see at the start of the series when Glimmer is trying to show her mother that she is strong and ventures into the whispering woods. Despite the danger and warnings from the Queen, Bow is happy to follow the lead of Glimmer and fight with her. This leads them to find Adora and her joining the team. Bow is willing to do almost anything for Glimmer and spends a lot of time encouraging her and affirming her to believe in herself. He is emotionally stable and helps her when she becomes more reactive and stressed.
Bow is very perceptive and observant. He picks up new skills very quickly and has a hidden intelligence that we can see with how he handles tech. He deals well when under pressure and steps up to try and help solve any conflicts. He acts as a mediator between Adora and Glimmer and tries to smooth over their arguments and maintains a positive outlook even when no one else does. At times, he shows signs of stress when pushed and becomes more panicky and anxious.
Bow has a wing 1 because he cares more about doing the right thing and is less assertive than a wing 8.
Tri-type: 9w1 - 2w1 - 6w7
Some quotes to describe Bow’s motivation
“You know what? It's not easy being the friendly and upbeat guy all the time. And I get that it's hard being friends sometimes. You gotta work at it. ...So why am I always the only one who's willing to work at it? I mean...they didn't even notice I'm gone. ...Do whatever you want. I don't care. It's terrible being friends with friends.”
“I've never seen Glimmer like this. Or Adora. I just wish I knew how to help them.”
“Okay! Touchy. Sorry about her. Usually she's really nice. Not much for talking, huh?“
“Thanks for saving us anyway. I'm Bow, by the way.”
Bow: “Hey, Glimmer, what’s up?” Glimmer: “What’s up with you? You have a secret family and you’re supposed to be a historian and you apparently hate pirates, and you’ve never told me about any of this. I feel like I don’t know you at all” Bow: “Glimmer, you know everything about me, the real me. I act like someone I’m not with my family because the truth would hurt them” Glimmer: “And it’s making you miserable. Bow, your dads love you. I’m sure they’ll love the real you, too” Bow: “You don’t know that. They’ve had a plan for me since I was a baby. But the truth is I’m nothing like the rest of my family. I’ve tried to tell them before, but they don’t want to hear it. So, I pretend”
Bow: “My dads don’t know I’m a Rebellion fighter. They think I’m at boarding school and I’m supposed to be on break right now” Glimmer: “So this is why you never talked about your past? I thought it was because it was dark and painful for you. But your dads seem so nice and normal” Bow: “I love my dads okay. I never mention them because they decided when I was a kid that I was gonna be the one to stay home and take over the library when they retired. I wanted to travel, to fight. So, I did the only thing I could. I secretly taught myself archery, ran away and pretended I was at a made-up boarding school.” Adora: “That seems really elaborate, Bow.” Bow: “You saw what they’re like. They don’t listen to me. They assume they know what I want. And if Lance knew I didn’t want to be a historian... Worse if George knew that I’m a Rebellion soldier fighting alongside the Princesses, it’d kill them.”

Typology Newbie?
Tumblr media
Are these letters and numbers nonsense to you?
In case you found your way here because of your interest in SPOP characters but don’t know much about MBTI or Enneagram, or where to begin with them, this post is for you.
There are a ton of good resources, and since my main objective with this blog is not to teach MBTI and Enneagram (but rather just have a discussion) I’m not going to go out of my way to write extensively about theory and type descriptions here. It would be redundant at best, since others have done that better before me.
I understand, however, that it may be overwhelming to get into these topics without any kind of guidance, so I’ll give you a few things (fine, more than a few because it’s impossible to simplify this enough to make it short) that I think would be useful for a beginner, and then I’ll link resources I like at the end of this post.
MBTI
- The MOST important thing: DON’T RELY ON TESTS. No test is accurate enough to give you the answer on what your type is. Only studying the theory yourself, will give you certainty.
- MBTI stands for Myers Briggs Type Indicator and some people will tell you it’s basically like a horoscope. They are right AND wrong. I’ll get into that.
- There are 16 MBTI types: four-letter codes, that describe each personality type. These letters come from four dichotomies: (E)xtroversion/(I)ntroversion, (T)hinking/(F)eeling, (S)ensing/I(n)tuiting and (P)erceiving/(J)udging. So, if your type is ESFJ, you are more extroverted than introverted, more feeling that thinking, more sensing that intuitive, and more judging than perceiving.
- Brief explanations of each dichotomy:
Extroversion/Introversion: An extrovert gets their energy from engaging with other people/the world. An introvert gets their energy from solitude/being in their head.
Thinking/Feeling: A thinker makes decisions based on impersonal data and what is logical. A feeler makes decisions based on personal values, people’s feelings and what is ethical.
Sensing/Intuiting: A sensor is concerned with concrete, physical, “sensory” data. An intuitive is concerned with the abstract, ideas, “intuitive” data.
Perceiving/Judging: A perceiver prefers spontaneity, a judger prefers order.
- And NO, it’s definitely not as simple as this, and YES we’re all extroverts AND introverts, thinkers AND feelers, sensors AND intuitives and perceivers AND judgers.
- This is where Carl Jung and cognitive functions come in. Because if you leave it at the four letter code, it will indeed not be much more scientific than a horoscope. (Though this is still pseudoscience.)
- MBTI is based on eight cognitive functions. The four letter code is descriptive of the types these different cognitive functions make up, and that’s why it shouldn’t be used as a tool to figuring out what your type is. What’s important here are the cognitive functions because they will tell you what KIND of an extrovert, introvert, thinker, feeler, sensor, intuitive, perceiver and judger you are, and in what order.
- The cognitive functions
Judging Functions (How we make decisions):
Extroverted Feeling (Fe): Objective ethics. “What do people value?” “What is good for people?” “What is appropriate?” When personal values clash with the outside world, finds it more painful to disregard the outside world.
Tumblr media
Introverted Feeling (Fi): Subjective ethics. “What do I value?” “What is right and wrong?” “What is authentic?” When personal values clash with the outside world, finds it more painful to disregard self.
Tumblr media
Extroverted Thinking (Te): Objective logic. “What is effective?” “What is the best solution?” Is more interested in the practical applications of a theory, rather than the concept itself.
Tumblr media
Introverted Thinking (Ti): Subjective logic. “What is logical?” “What is true and false?” Is more interested in theories and concepts for their own sake than their practical application.
Tumblr media
Perceiving Functions (How we gather information):
Extroverted Sensing (Se): Objective sensory information. Senses things as they are right now, isn’t selective about what information comes in. “What is?”
Tumblr media
Introverted Sensing (Si): Subjective sensory information. Senses things through the lens of personal past experiences, is selective about what information comes in. “What should be?”
Tumblr media
Extroverted Intuition (Ne): Objective abstract information. Sees possibilities and connections between things, moves from one idea to the next, isn’t selective about what information comes in. “What could be?”
Tumblr media
Introverted Intuition (Ni): Subjective abstract information. Sees the “core” of things, dives into one idea as deep as possible, is selective about what information comes in. “What will be?”
Tumblr media
- Dominant function is your strenght, auxiliary function is your “side-kick”, tertiary function is your “fun” function and you might overestimate its strenght, and your inferior function is your achille’s heel.
- For example, ESFJ type’s dominant function is extroverted feeling, auxiliary function is introverted sensing, tertiary function is extroverted intuition, and inferior function is introverted thinking. These processes complement each other.
- The other four functions that are not listed in your type are your “shadow functions”. They’re there but you don’t value them, so you don’t like to use them.
- I’m not going to go into the logic of how to remember each type’s cognitive functions, but you’ll find that out in other sources.
- Once you’ve grasped the basics of how each cognitive function works in practice and how they play out in different combinations, you’ll be able to conceptualize a lot about yourself and others. MBTI doesn’t really try to explain why our brains works in certain ways, but I find that it is a great tool for improving communication, because it categorizes differences in the way we experience the world. Once you can recognize that you’re talking to a Te-dominant, and you know you’re an Fe-dominant yourself, and you know where the differences in your perception come from, you can use that to anticipate and solve misunderstandings, understand the other’s view point and explain yours in a way they are more likely to understand. Ideally.
- The worst use of MBTI, or any personality theory is when people use it to excuse their mistakes and avoid growth, or to divide people. “I’m a thinker, so I can’t be expected to be polite, you’re too sensitive.” “Si-users are sheep.” “INTJ is the most intelligent type there is.” All of this is bs, and it’s not what MBTI is for.
I didn’t use any particular source for this brief look into MBTI, but I’m pretty sure I’ve unconsciously borrowed some phrases from other people, such as youtuber EJArendee, whose channel doesn’t exist anymore.
 Enneagram
- You NEED Enneagram to understand MBTI well. That’s my experience both personally, and from observing other people. Often when I come across someone who is knowledgeable about MBTI, their blind spots come from not knowing Enneagram. MBTI is about cognition, so you can’t use it to explain people’s motivations. (Not much anyway.) That’s where Enneagram comes in.
- Some Enneagram practitioners and writers bring spirituality into it, but don’t let that put you off, even if it isn’t your cup of tea. Underneath the spiritual language, there is a solid theory, and sometimes you have to look past the flowery word choices.
- Enneagram is all about what fears and desires drive us: what motives people. There are 9 different types. You will relate to more than one, but your core type is the one that drives you the most.
- The Enneagram types:
Type One  Desire: to be “good”, morally “right”. Fear: of being defective/corrupt.
Type Two  Desire: to be worthy of love, “lovable”.  Fear: of being unlovable.
Type Three  Desire: to be valuable, “successful”. Fear: of being worthless.
Type Four  Desire: to be “unique”, find their significance. Fear: of having no identity.
Type Five  Desire: to be competent, capable. Fear: of being helpless/incapable.
Type Six  Desire: to be supported, to have security. Fear: of being without support and guidance.
Type Seven Desire: to be content, have needs met. Fear: of being in pain or deprived.
Type Eight  Desire: to be in control, to have full “autonomy”. Fear: of being controlled or harmed by others.
Type Nine  Desire: to be stable, to have internal “harmony”. Fear: of loss and separation.
 - Everyone has a core type, which describes your basic fears and desires.
- Your “wing” influences your core, gives you “flavor”. Wing comes from the types “next” to yours. For example, a 9w8 would be more aggressive than a 9w1, who would be more uptight.
- Everyone also has an “instinctual variant” which some argue is the most important part of the Enneagram, because it’s about where your primary focus is in life.
- Instinctual Variants:
Social variant: wants to be part of something bigger than themselves, needs to know their role and status in a group, concerned with “We”.
Tumblr media
Self-preservation variant: wants to be self-sufficient, pays attention to their well-being, strong survival instinct, concerned with “Me”.
Tumblr media
Sexual variant: wants one-to-one connection, seeks intimacy and an “intense” relationship to another person, concerned with “You”.
Tumblr media
- For example, a Social 9 will be preoccupied with being accepted by other people, a Self-pres 9 will be more concerned with arranging their daily life so that nothing causes conflict for them, and a Sexual 9 will have a need to merge with another person to the point of having no separate identity of their own.
- Once again, everyone has ALL the instincts, but one is dominant, one is secondary, and one is your “blind spot”. Sometimes the blind spot is the easiest one to figure out. If you neglect your sexual instict you’re likely to be uncomfortable with raw and intense display of emotion. If you neglect self-preservation you’re likely to scoff when other people try to pay attention to concerns of health and safety. If you neglect social instinct you’re likely to feel that playing by the rules of a group or even belonging to it is “stupid”, boring, or unnecessary.
- Then there’s your Tritype which is a bit much to get into right now. You just need to know that it’s normal to relate to multiple Enneagram types.
- Enneagram types “integrate” and “disintegrate” to other Enneagram types. For example, when a 9 is at their best, they take on healthy aspects of Type 3: they become motivated, driven, and present. When a 9 is stressed, they take on the unhealthy aspects of Type 6: they become insecure, irritable and feel helpless and scared. Keep this in mind when figuring out your type as well. When I got into Enneagram, I first thought I was a Type 3. (I’m a 9. Must have had a good day.)
- Enneagram is far less flattering than MBTI tends to be, so keep that in mind. Enneagram is often written from a pessimistic viewpoint, it’s usually about our weaknesses. Your core type is more likely to be the one that causes the most negative feelings in you, than the one that causes the most positive ones.
- Enneagram and MBTI are necessary for understanding each other, because certain combinations are more common than others. For example, ESFJ 2 is a common combination because Type 2 correlates with extroverted feeling. However, any type combination is possible, and sometimes you might mistype someone because their MBTI & Enneagram combination is unusual. (I certainly have.)
- “Soft” MBTI with a “hard” Enneagram, or vice versa, can seem confusing. For example, I have a friend who is an INFP (arguably the softest MBTI) and Type 8 (arguably the hardest Enneagram). Someone I know also thought that an ENFP Type 5 in their life was an INTJ, because Type 5 is rare in “feelers”. Fives are cerebral and introverted in a way you wouldn’t expect from most ENFPs.
That’s the briefest look I can possibly give into this topic.
Here are some links I like. I may not necessarily agree with all of their views, but I think they mostly know what they are talking about, and I have found this material useful.
