Hey everyone! Time for the bi-weekly tumblr update for Steamberry stuffs!

I feel like I have missed a few tumblr updates. I went back and the last one I can find is *dated* August 24 - but was actually posted on September 24th. LoL

I had one dated from October but it looks like I may have never actually posted it. That seems about right for how things have been going for me.

It's been rough. Like...really rough. I'm going to assume that the September 24th post was my last tumblr update. I have been updating on Patreon and even updated on Itchio, so there have been updates. Just apparently not here.

(below, you'll mostly find information on WSC but there is a quick update on GS remnants as well!)

Summary

Have written all but Yren's route *through* chapter 9

Numerous new BGs

Ramble

So the last time I posted it looks like I was just starting Chapter 8 in When Stars Collide. I am currently wrapping up the final scenes of chapter 9.

My word count in the September update was 373,000 and it is currently 413,000. I am just shy of 90% of the way towards my final word count goal.

I am about halfway through writing Yren's chapter 9 content (about 8000 words of content total and I've got nearly 4000 of that written). Once I have that bit written, I will be done with Chapter 9 for all characters.

I've gotten new art since my last post but honestly I'm not sure at this point how many. Looking back at my emails, it looks like I've probably gotten 3 new complete BGs + 1 BG sketch since my last update here on Tumblr.

I have updated all the CGs with the new background art as well - the introductory CGs in the current snapshot, of course, use the old backgrounds and the new conference room looks completely different and has different chairs. So I had to go back to those CGs and re-do the chairs. That is done but I haven't actually coded the new BGs yet. I have, however, updated the artwork.

That's basically the major stuff for now with WSC.

Gilded Shadows

Working on the lore book. The art book is complete but I decided to hold off releasing it until the lore book is done so I can release them together. Lore book is taking a while as there is a lot of content to format and I'm adding to it as I go.

It is nearing 100 pages already and...yeah. There's a fair bit more. So it's gonna be big.

Upcoming Weeks:

Basically the same old stuff. I will be writing for WSC. I am currently trying to hit a goal of at least 6500 words a week so I can complete the draft by the end of December.

So far I have been able to do that although some weeks I barely managed. It's, as I said, been rough.

I'm continuing to work on the GS lore book. Most of the stuff is at least collected in one place right now, so I just have to format, organise, and add any commentary.

But I've changed computers at least twice since starting this game and some things I remember writing and am now struggling to find. So...that's fun.

Anyway I will try to make sure I post here every two weeks going forward instead of writing up a draft of the post and apparently never showing anyone. 💪

In honour of the new route, which I absolutely love, here is a quick fan art of Quill from @steamberrystudio Gilded shadows. He is cranky yet so so kind and loving and I love the new route, I definitely cannot wait for Reuben and Yuu to come. Thank you for creating such a wonderful game and wonderful characters it has inspired me to try writing again after a long time.

GOD I loved your MidCin reviews. I remember loving Rayvis (I was just 14 back then, so yeah...) because I felt he was the most decent guy there. Also, I don't remember they having SO much sex so I wasn't uncomfortable, at least. But I agree most of my love for this game are pure nostalgia and respect to my first true otome I've played. I wanted to ask: did you play any other Cybird game? I'd love to see you roasting them more (esp their twu wuv's w/o chemistry problem!!)

I hope I'm not replying too late! I really need to be better about checking... online things in general ^^;; (also also I don't understand why I don't get an alert? Or why they don't show the dates of asks? I'm probably missing something...)

Hmm, I think I tested out that historical Cybird one with the voice acting because the MC's a seamstress but the buck wild use of historical figures and the convenient absence of an actual black man who actually lived in Japan at the time, serving under Oda Nobunaga(!) just kinda made me not want to play. Especially when these men's lives were incredibly interesting in their own right; the forced romance and vaguely explained time travel was wholly unnecessary. They couldn't even do anything meaningful with the seamstress thing besides oh she sews some stuff for her beau du jour. Dude voice acting Masamune's hot though >.>

As you might have noticed, I have markedly less time to play anything in general, much less otomes with lacklustre plots. In fact, I have an ever growing list of games/books that I mean to get to but, uh, haven't touched yet >.<

But let me end on a more positive note: a recommendation of otomes I did enjoy!

Changeling by Steamberry Studio: The team put a lot of effort into researching and building the lore in this one. I appreciate the fact that high school teenagers read like high school teenagers and since our characters are, well, teenagers, you aren't getting huge all or nothing confessions of love in the romantic endings. Also, I just saw that it's on sale for another day?! Quick, check out the demo, and take advantage of the sale if the VN's to your fancy! Side note, Steamberry's newest otome is on my [much too long] list of games to play, that's how much I enjoyed Changeling.

Ebon Light by Underbliss: Very impressive for a pay-what-you-want. You can even customize the MC's look! I found the lore interesting but a touch underdeveloped, and the story had a few pacing issues, but all in all, I had lots of fun playing.

War of Roses by owl: If you're looking for something short and sweet and relaxing, this might be up your alley. Also has a customizable MC!

Arcade Spirits by Fiction Factory: I low-key love the setting of this game. I wouldn't necessarily categorise this game as an otome since you can keep all relationships platonic and you don't have to play as a female MC. As a paid game, I kind of wish the MC customization had more options and that the different love interest routes varied more. It's not my favourite of the VNs I've played "recently" but I do like the world and appreciate the love that clearly went into making the game.

I haven’t played his route cause im trying to save ap for the lessons and for the half devil day event. Out of those, so far the two games by steamberry (mostly gilded shadows) have been my recent favorites as I haven’t finished the ones by larky labs yet. The robobarbie one was pretty funny and based on a discord server.

Quick Devlog

Hey everyone! This is just a quick update on development because I haven't posted to tumblr in a while.

I have been posting regular updates to Patreon and Kickstarter - and semi-regular updates to Itch. I talk about development on Discord on a daily basis. It's just become a lot ot manage by myself which is why tumblr updates have somewhat fallen by the wayside.

I am going to try to get back into regular posts here - even if it's monthly like KS and Itch.

So for a very quick summary of where Reuben's route is right now - it's basically almost ready for beta testing. I'm just doing a few final touches and will hopefully send it out to beta testers in the next couple of days.

Reuben's route is around 111,000 words and, with this route, the word count of the game is around 927,000 words. All the assets for Reuben's route are complete (all CGS, all sprites, everything). The route is done. It just has to be tested.

Yuu's route is planned out and started but I'm obviously not far along in it yet (just in chapter two) since Reuben has been my priority until now.

I am hoping that development of Gilded Shadows will be done within the next six months or so. I have one more route to complete at this point and am actually hoping I can get it written quickly. But we'll see.

Many of you did see the ask where I semi-announced my next project - When Stars Collide.

Full development of that project is on the horizon. Far, far away on the horizon but it's there. I won't start full development on it until GS is done but I do work on it a couple of times a week right now.

If you want to keep up a little more with updates and stuff, I recommend giving a follow on Itch - I started updating there monthly(ish) because I have a lot of followers there and kept getting people posting threads to ask about development so it seemed more logical to post devlogs there. You can also join the Discord server where I do talk about development even if I'm not posting lengthy updates there.

I'm still going to try to update tumblr a little more frequently - put it on my calender for, maybe, monthly updates. But I am updating across numerous platforms now and it's a little tricky to manage. But I will try. 💪

This is my fan art Dr Yuu my favourite character from Gilded Shadows by @steamberrystudio . He's definitely my comfort character and I love all the interactions we've had with him in the routes. I'm actually really happy with the way this one came out, I cannot wait for his route and can guarantee multiple replays of it even though it's not written yet. Hehehe.

Hey Everyone! 

I hope you are doing well. Sorry for the radio silence. I’ve had a few things happen in my personal life which has been taking up a majority of my time at the moment. Also I work in retail so now is the busiest time of year for me at work, it’s all hands on deck so by the time I get home I’m fried.
