Hello Tumblr, I have an important life update for you all
We did it. Finally, after 5-7 years of research and waiting and planning...
Tumblr media
We have a third snoot. The Borzoi has finally arrived
Tumblr media
Her name is Echo and she's still a puppy. We got her in July at 8 months old, and she's now almost 11 months old.
Tumblr media
The two others are doing just fine and are happy and healthy as well, and adjusting to life with a big giant baby being around.
Tumblr media
Zill loves her. Strudel is still coming around. Don't worry though;
Tumblr media
He's still the king of everything.

Film Forum posted a few draft press releases prepared by the Warner Bros. PR Department in the year leading up to the theatrical release of ‘Rebel Without A Cause’. James Dean named his newly acquired Daschund (sic) “Strudle.” Probably a dachshund and might have been “Strudel”, except that Dean’s dog was a Border Collie named ‘Tuck’, so maybe he got a new dog shortly before his death.

Portrait of Strudel
I'm currently in the UK so I haven't had that much time to paint, but here is a watercolour and ballpoint pen portrait of a Dachshund called Strudel.

Strudel, who would you say is your best friend, aside from Mr. NutNut?
Tumblr media
"Well..." The dachshund trails off momentarily, seeming to have to think wisely on the answer. First thought came rather wistfully to a particular robot dog — but the pitiful fact of it was that Toyoshiko had been gone with memory erased for quite some time now. It just wasn't a viable answer anymore, no matter how she wished it could have been.
"I cannot pick only one! There are so many to the team! Lucky, Cookie, Squirt, Niblet — They are all my best friends!"
But were they? At the end of the day, after all was said and done, she knew they were her friends, but were they her best friends? She wasn't entirely sold. She was a needed member, yes, but... How far did it stretch beyond her talent in invention?

three dog night
Tumblr media
a modern day au, some john/stephan, fluff, dogs!
John opened the door to the flat he shared with his boyfriend, Stephan, and was greeted by the usual ecstatic chorus of barks. There was Strudel, the elderly dachshund they’d had adopted after seeing a Facebook post from the local shelter about how he’d been there for six months with no interest. Then there was Nudel, also a dachshund, who after a year was slowly coming to the realization that John was not a murderer who broke into the flat every evening.
Today there was a third bark, lower than either of the dachshunds. What could best be described as a freckled blur burst down the hallway, jumped up on John, shoved it’s head into the bag of groceries he was carrying and then bounded away, floppy ears and flagged tail wagging furiously.
John looked censoriously at both dachshunds. “Have you got a friend over?” He asked them, giving them their evening head pats. Emboldened, Strudel tried to shimmy his way into the grocery bag as well, forcing John to walk into the kitchen with it held high above his head.
Further back in the flat he heard the sound of his boyfriend frantically whispering before a door shut and the man appeared in the doorway of the kitchen at an unusual speed.
“Oh! Hello John!” Stephan said cheerfully, moving to take the bag from him. “Strudel! Nudel! Gehs in betts!” He ordered the dachshunds, who obeyed, if slowly. He leaned down and kissed John on the cheek. “How was your day?”
“Oh, fine. A new pallet of record requests got delivered to the office, so we’ve been combing through them, looking for anything interesting.” He said, watching Stephan putting away the eggs, spinach, and milk one handedly, admiring his grace. He didn’t often wear his prosthetic at home. (“Ack! Who will see me?” he’d said, soon after John had moved in and commented about it. “It’s not a surprise to you? That it’s fake?” He’d asked, taking off the hot pink poly-carbon arm he’d worn that day, before they’d both dissolved into giggles.)
A suspicious scratching sound arose from the direction of their bedroom. Stephan jolted and then tried to pretend he hadn’t, trying not to catch John’s eye. “Did you want to get pizza?” He asked.
John shook his head. “No, remember, I told you I was making my pasta tonight, and then we were going to watch Bake-Off.” He replied, smiling, pretending that the scratching hadn’t been joined by a plaintive whining. He bumped Stephan in the hip as he crossed the kitchen to grab the pot and put it on to boil. “What did you get up to, today?”
Stephan looked blank for a moment. “Oh. Um. I um, went to the gym?” He said, taking the colander down from the overhead pot rack to hand it to John.
“Oh good!” John replied, enthusiastically. “And then afterwards?”
The scratching continued. Stephan looked off into the middle distance. “Oh, I went to work. We’re finalizing the wheelchair basketball league marketing, I told you about that.” Was it just John, or was he talking a little louder, and more quickly?
“You did!” John replied, who had taken down a smaller pot to throw butter, a can of tomatoes, and an onion into for the sauce. “That is very EXCITING.” He said, over the persistent yip, yip, yip now emanating from the bedroom.
Stephan, John had concluded early in their relationship, looked like someone had brought some old Gothic archangel to life. And he looked particularly like that when he was guilty. It was something about the frown, and the anguished set of his eyes. He was currently looking particularly angelic right now. He took a deep breath.
“It is worse, you know, when you do this.” Stephan said at last.
John looked up from putting the sauce together. “When I do what?” He asked, barely able to keep the laugh out of his voice.
“When I have done something naughty and you ignore it in such the way where you know I have been naughty, but you never say so.” Stephan replied, turning pink.
John softened, turning from the stove to wrap his arms around the gigantic German, who now was looking heavenward. “I disagree. I cannot think of a time when you have been, as you say, naughty. It escapes me.”
Stephan sighed, and begrudgingly returned the embrace.
“However, ” John added. “I would enjoy being enlightened on how our flat suddenly has an English Springer Spaniel infestation.”

15 questions tag
tagged by @youngjaehour, thank you so much for thinking of me!
1. are you named after someone? I am named after a friend of my mom’s, a lady that she loved and respected a lot. My given name is very formal and old-fashioned so I shortened it to a much more modern version.
2. when was the last time you cried? A couple of days ago. I had a panic attack and a suicidal ideation episode.
3. do you have kids? One daughter who is 12. She’s pretty awesome.
4. do you use sarcasm a lot? I’m a pretty sarcastic person, I think.
5. what is the first thing you notice about people? In person, I notice mouths. I’m deaf and I read lips so they’re what I go for to understand people. Then eyes. Not in person, then it’s how they write and their tone.
6. what is your eye colour? Dark brown
7. scary movies or happy endings? I like scary movies but happy endings are good too.
8. any special talents? I write a lot, although I don’t know if I’m particularly good at it. I do a variety of crafts, again with mixed success.
9. where were you born? Kansas, USA
10. what are your hobbies? Reading, video games, tumblr, k-pop, going to Disney World, crafty stuff
11. have any pets? An old cat (Lucy, 14), a pit bull (Toast) and a mini dachshund (Strudel) (both 2), and two ball pythons (Pepsi and Pretzel) (6 and 3).
12. how tall are you? 4’11”
13. what sports do you play or have you played? When I was very small I danced. When I was a kid I did volleyball, basketball, and golf. Fibromyalgia has put the stops to pretty much everything but walking slowly.
14. favorite school subject? I loved English, Literature, history, social sciences. Despised math.
15. dream job? I wanted to be a librarian, but that never panned out.

We've had enough time...
Remember when you were 5 years old and had just learned to read, and you read e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g out loud, to anyone or no one in particular, like boxes and labels…and signs?  I was that excited new reader in the early sixties.  Wherever we went, I would point to posters and signs, and read them aloud to my parents who patiently patted my head with approval.
Some of the signage was confusing, and I would ask what it meant.  “Whites Only” and “Colored Served in Rear” and directional arrows with “Colored Entrance” printed underneath…what?  I asked my parents what a “Colored Entrance” was, and why would the back door have to be in color?  I was a five-year-old military brat, sheltered from the “outside.”  I had no clue, clearly.  Daddy tried to make sense of it for me, even as he said it didn’t make sense but that these were the laws on the “outside.”  It hurt my feelings, and pushed against my sensibilities.  Why couldn’t everybody use the same door, or be allowed to come inside to eat?  There were laws that said thirsty people had to be careful which water they drank?  Really?  Doesn’t all the water come from the same place?
We lived on a military post, where everyone used the same entrance, the same water fountains, and sat wherever they could find an empty seat.  I had no idea that differences mattered, other than differences made life interesting.  So many of my friends’ mothers were from other countries, spoke different languages, and cooked different foods than my mama (who spoke Italian and hung fresh pasta to dry all over the kitchen.)  Charles’ mom made Brötchen and strudels, screeching at us in German to get out of her kitchen.  Then she’d sneak a piece of that fresh bread to my little brother (who looked like a starving child out of Biafra.) The mom at the corner sang in Japanese and she made the most divine soup and these little sweet cakes.  Yes, diversity enriched my life.  It was about voices, music, food…and it was all so very good.
I’ll never forget.  It was 1963;  my Aunt Martha had a housekeeper, a sweet and pleasant lady whose name escapes me now.  Before my mother got her driver’s license, Aunt Martha had come to get us for a day of shopping, lunch, and a little playtime with her lively Dachshund.  Ricky and I loved that little dog, and we loved Aunt Martha, and we liked that nice lady who cleaned her house and sometimes baked cookies.  When the time came to take that lady home, Mama insisted on sitting in the back seat between us, which made Aunt Martha nervous.  She wasn’t sure what the rules were about driving about town with the black lady sitting up front and the white lady wedged between the kids in the backseat.  Seriously.  Not worried for themselves, those ladies were worried for the housekeeper, knowing she was the one who would have to answer for presuming the privilege of that comfortable spot with the extra legroom next to the driver.  There was a brief discussion about it, and my mother told that housekeeper to just settle herself in the front seat.  Mama needed to control her unruly children, and if we were stopped by the police, she would tell him (I could imagine an emotional explanation in that thick accent with the random interjection of Italian to help make her point) because, of course one had to prepare for dealing with the cops when one of your passengers had a brown face, right?
Segregation.  Apartheid.  It made us nervous about even routine activities like giving someone a lift home, and kept people ever mindful of the signage that ensured things remained separate…segregated…apart. There we were, almost a full century removed from the end of the civil war and emancipation, more than ninety years after the 15th Amendment, and people were still struggling against oppression, still fighting for equality, seeking the full recognition of their citizenship, working against the efforts to suppress their rights to vote, and just wanting to use a public restroom without having to walk an extra block to find one with a “colored” label.  There were people afraid to be out after dark in certain neighborhoods, who couldn’t dare be found on the “wrong” side of the street without the threat of harm, or arrest, or even death.
Yes, there we were…
…and still, here we are.
This nation is now 155 years removed from the civil war and emancipation, 150 years past the 15th Amendment.  People are still struggling against the same oppression and injustice, and black men still can’t stand on the wrong side of the street without the threat of harm.  How many generations do you think it takes for institutional, systemic racism and the chronic pain of it to become part of the cellular memory, so rooted in the DNA that it lies deep in the very soul of people who are tired of trying to raise their families and live their lives without fear?  You don’t understand the anger, the rioting, the uprising?  These are people who are done trying to contemplate the big picture, and trying to work “within the system.”  They…are…done.  They are reacting out of fear, fury, and generations of frustration. They are being murdered, and because they are African American, justice is slow in coming -if it comes at all.  They are sick of it…and I don’t blame them. Do you really blame them?
“Riot is the language of the unheard.”  Martin Luther King Jr.
Reconstruction may have finally begun in earnest after Andrew Johnson vacated the presidency, yet we still haven’t finished.  I am beginning to wonder if we ever will.  Of course, progress takes time and we’ve only had since 1869 to work on it, right?  This country takes three steps backward for every one we take forward, which makes me doubt we’ll accomplish the task in my lifetime. Hopefully, the next generation can move things forward in earnest again, and finally unite this nation.  It is long overdue.  One thing I know for sure, before that happens, society will need to grow the hell up.

We have been hearing about the remake for about a year and then when I heard who the stars were I got even more excited. Unless you are living under a rock, you know “A Star is Born,” stars four-time Oscar nominee Bradley Cooper (“American Sniper,” “American Hustle,” “Silver Linings Playbook”) and multiple award-winning, Oscar-nominated music superstar Lady Gaga, in her first leading role in a major motion picture. Cooper helms the film, marking his directorial debut. In this new take on the tragic love story, he plays seasoned musician Jackson Maine, who discovers—and falls in love with—struggling artist Ally (Gaga). She has just about given up on her dream to make it big as a singer… until Jack coaxes her into the spotlight. But even as Ally’s career takes off, the personal side of their relationship is breaking down, as Jack fights an ongoing battle with his own internal demons.
The Film is rated R and opens on Friday, October 5, which is the day I will see it!
