Homecooking [Oct ed]
What’s up everybody?!
Slightly more homecooking content in this month’s post. .. as we transition to fall (& winter), noodle soups will be occupying more space in these posts xD
Udon noodles with chicken breast & napa cabbage. Used Knorr chicken broth as soup base.
Ddeok-guk, which is Korean (flat) rice cake soup. I added some dumplings & baby bokchoy in.
Sujebi + chayote in leftover chicken soup. .. & hard-boiled egg. This was my breakfast post-night shift.
Sujebi dish #2 . .. This one in fish cake broth + zucchini. Also very light, but very tasty!
Sujebi dish #3 . .. I call this the “leftover hot pot special”. I don’t know about you, but when we have hot pot, we always over-prepare foods, so there’s always leftover defrosted proteins & seafood, as well as veggies. The next day, we either have another hot pot or we use the leftovers & throw it all in a pot to make a ‘soup’. This sujebi was made with the soup so it contains: chicken, frozen seafoods, napa cabbage, & some fish balls/tofu. I usually do this with my fav thick rice noodles but I had an opened bag of sujebi, so I used sujebi. Any noodle works.
Sujebi #4 . .. lol bcos I have to use up my sujebi.
Cucumber + egg stir-fry
Leftover yookgaejang with thick rice noodles. AHHH SO GOOD!!!!
This doesn’t look pleasing but I swear it was good! At the beginning of the month, my mom had prepared (ie: de-boned) chicken drumsticks, where she separated the bone from the meat but kept the meat ‘together’ in one whole piece as she deboned. We had plans to use the portable BBQ outside for the chicken thigh fillets; however plans changed. .. we didn’t do that. Instead, I used the chicken fillet pieces to make fried chicken ^^ I didn’t bother cutting the pieces into smaller pieces so that’s why they’re in such large chunks haha
Cheongguk-jang soup. Cheongguk-jang is an extra fermented soybean soup. It’s more savoury & has a greater depth of flavour profile compared to the regular soybean soup (the doenjang). As I’ve mentioned in the past, after trying this since. .. 2yrs ago, I now can’t really go back to doenjang anymore. That almost seems too bland to me. Cheongguk-jang typically includes the common ingredients like onion, zucchini, pork, tofu. .. I skipped the meats & just used zucchini, onion, & napa cabbage. The soup turned out very well!
I fried pork cutlet for the first time. I’ve fried chicken many times but not pork cutlet. I left it frying for soooo long bcos I was scared the pork wouldn’t be cooked thoroughly haha the sauce on the side is just a mix of bbq sauce with ketchup.
*that ripped off part was the 30% off sticker :P
This was a very interesting dip. .. it was heavily garlicky & a little spicy. I didn’t get much “Mexican spice” out of it, which was slightly disappointing but I still was ok with it.
I had the dip around for literally dayyyyyyyysss. It’s quite heavy & salty. It doesn’t really go with anything else I eat normally. So I used it as a pasta sauce. It looks more yellow than it really is IRL. The photo makes it look like that Kraft Dinner ‘fake’ cheese colour but it’s really not! I cooked this late at night for lunch the next day so the lighting is not great. It was alright. Made good use of the dip.
Random Korean snacks I still have lying around my house. .. expired, but still tasty!
I was munching on the above snack & reading a webtoon called MONEY GAME for about 10 days in October. You guys should read it. The length isn’t too long. I found some parts lagged a little bit, but overall, I really enjoyed the series. It’s surprising to me that it was released Squid Game. They shall similar themes - namely a group of ppl in a closed setting interacting with each other, & they play a “money game” for the grand prize.
This is a cheaper way of having naengmyeon - buy the noodles & broth separately instead of the kit! Hmart had 2 types of broth. I’ll try the other one next time, but this beef-based broth was delicious. I found 1 soup serving for 1 noodle serving a bit off, as in there was more soup. In the future, I’ll likely use 1.5 noodles for 1 soup. I haven’t figured it out yet... The noodles are individual ‘servings’ but they’re not individually wrapped so I separated the 10 servings & put them into ziploc bags myself (& froze them).
PLAIN CHEESE RAMYEON~
Another ramyeon I ate this month bcos that’s my quota lol Used up leftover hot pot materials.
Imitation flat bread using naan. Toppings: corned beef, cherry tomatoes, Babybels, & garlic seasoning. This was gooooood!
That is it~
Sorry for the slightly late post.. . been busy lately. I’ve been watching badminton & gahhhhh Short Track 22/23 season has officially started with the 1st stop in Montreal this past wknd. Super exciting stuff!!! Salt Lake City in a few days :D
PS: I’m sad Choi Min Jung didn’t get gold. .. Same with Lee June Seo =( Hopefully in Salt Lake City!

best years
a/n. soft soob :(
warnings. alcohol consumption, throwing up (nothing too graphic), cursing
soobin woke up slowly, the sunlight dancing on his face and warning it up pleasantly. he crooked an eye open and noticed you’re gradually waking up from slumber too. you nuzzled your head further onto the crook of his neck, the smell of your hair hitting his nostrils.
“good morning” you mumbled sleepily, only to yawn after. your fingers started drawing hearts on his chest and his thoughts couldn’t help but wander.
he will never forget how shocked he was when one day he opened the door and saw… you. voice got stuck in his throat, lips parting in shock.
“are… what– y/n?” he whispered, the ability to form full sentences flying out of the window. why you, his ex of 3 months, are here? especially that he was the one who fucked up?
“i… i missed you” you murmured, looking at him. soobin’s heart swelled; he knew what he had to do.
he slowly swallowed, deciding to turn off his brain and just got things off his chest.
“you've got a million reasons to hesitate… but, darling, the future's better than yesterday” he breathed out. your eyes widened, realising that he still… loved you.
“soobin, i– I wasted so much time on people that reminded me of you and” you started and he ran a hand through his hair nervously
“and i gave you a million reasons to walk away. but you’re here. give me one more chance, i won’t fuck this up” soobin pleaded.
you just pulled him into a kiss.
he noticed it a while ago; it was hard not to. your leg was bouncing up and down under the table, causing it to shake slightly.
he put a hand on yours, laying atop of your thigh, looking at you worriedly. the colors from your face drained, looking just like boiled sujebi dough in the soup on the table.
“i’m fine” you murmured, shaking your head. taehyun and beomgyu were standing strong, however your drinking companion – yeonjun – was mere moments from passing out.
soobin let out an airy breath and pulled away.
“let me know if you’re feeling unwell, okay?” he asked, voice stern yet soft enough to not make you feel uncomfortable.
as he leaned away and let you return to the conversation (if you were even able call it like that, based on the oldest’s incoherent answers). your boyfriend returned to discuss the ridiculousness of–
with a unpleasant screech of chair scraping against the floor, you ran out of the room.
soobin wasted no time rushing after you, ignoring the other customers’ judging looks. the door from the bathroom slammed loudly as you pushed them open, grateful that no one was occupying it.
soobin held your hair as you returned the consumed alcohol, the other hand stroking your back in a reassuring motion.
moments later he announced that you two are going home, meeting with kai’s sad pout.
“i have to carry her home, she cannot stand up” he sighed, pure care in his voice. you were blinking slowly, trying to fight the heaviness of your eyelids. before beomgyu asked why, he added with a tender smile: “she did all these things for me when i was half a man for her”
soobin held you tightly, hand on the back of your head. his heart was ripping apart with every sound of the sob leaving your lips.
“it’ll be okay, trust me” he whispered, for the nth time that night. lulling you, swinging gently back and forth your hands gripped tighter the material of his t-shirt “i know. i know…”
your pain was his pain too.
he leaned his head against yours, inhaling your scent to somehow calm down. his eyes were watery, your suffering piercing through his bones.
“i’ll build a house out of the mess and all the broken pieces” soobin whispered, your breathing slowly getting more steady “i'll make up for all of your tears…”
both of you were crying until the sun rose, shining tenderly on your tired faces. eventually you fell asleep in his arms and your heart at peace.
“–hey, you’re here?”
you were looking up, your chin resting on his chin, his hair were sticking in different directions, proof of how much he shifted in his sleep. that’s why he was so mentally absent right now…?
“oh, yeah. sorry, i zoned out” soobin giggled, dimples showing up.
“well, i noticed. you’ve been staring at me for like, ten minutes” a playful chuckle left your lips and he just pulled you closer, nuzzling his nose into your hair.
he fell silent again, his thumb drawing shapes on your skin.
“soob, what are you thinking about?” your soft voice made him grin.
“what if i showed you?” he asked before he could process what he’s saying.
you frowned, curious.
well, fuck it.
soobin pulled away, the duvet falling off his body. he rubbed his eye, still a bit drowsy from his slumber. as he looked through his night stand you peeked over his arm.
“i was thinking about you. us. and well, uh… i didn’t have a plan yet, but–“ soobin started and let out an excited gasp “here it is!”
he turned around, his bare face glowing with joy. soobin smacked his lips, frowning suddenly.
“i’m having second thoughts but…” he explained upon your confused expression.
his huge palm grabbed yours and handed you a small, velvety box.
it was just like someone took your breathing ability away.
“i’ll give you the best years” he hummed softly, his morning voice sending shivers down your spine. you traced the sides of the box, eyes watering “i promise, darling, you won’t regret”
you opened it but… it was empty.
“bin–!” you choked out, snapping your gaze at him. soobin let out a heart-warning laugh, the dimples making a guest appearance and making it hard to be mad at him.
“laying here with you made me feel at ease; you feel like home. i’ll give you the best years of your life. and i commit to you, and i love you, and i’ll nurture you no matter what” soobin said, putting the box away and grabbing your chin “but you’ll have to wait for the actual proposal, darling”
“i hate you” you laughed through your tears, hugging him tightly. soobin just grinned widely, heart thumping against his rib cage. he’ll take it as a future yes.

Seafood sujebi
1st time trying this seafood sujebi kit from Hmart:
I've gotten the kit by the Pulmone brand in the past but after a few of those, I started buying the sujebi-only packages. Ie: the ones not in serving form or have any seasonings. It's just the noodles. This was on sale so I decided to give it a try. Unlike the other sujebi kit that are normally found in the fridge, this was in the regular aisles. (I thought that was kind of weird)
Gotta love the placement of the stickering lol
The contents: 2 individual noodle packs, 2 seasoning powder packs, & 2 topping packs.
I added my own things to it bcos the kit serving is simply not enough & is not nutritious. I added baby bokcoy, oysters, kimchi & my mom's pork+shrimp patties. She basically makes a mash, then flattens it for freezing so it's easier for storage. Then cuts them up into smaller pieces so when we wanna eat it, we just defrost some.
Satisfied with the flavour - I'm more on the bland-er side so I usually add more water to these items that have a seasoning pack. OR I don't add the whole pack in.
The topping pack was actually really interesting. I don't have a finished view of it but when I added the broth to it, it melted right away & baby dried shrimps & squid started expanding in front of my eyes haha the reaction was so fast!!
Would buy again when on sale but otherwise, will continue to build my own sujebi =]

he’s so personable and relatable
(and real - for the part where he laid down in the trackpants... that he wore... and sat on the sidewalk after the beach) but thats fine people do that
flipping around tv channels and testing out the karaoke machine, having a similar rxn to ‘oh shit it works but kinda loud lemme just turn the volume down real quick’ moment
walking in the wrong direction then using his navigation app, saying it could be scary at night to walk down that tunnel cuz fr it rlly will be
the way he woke up bc of bugs and wanted to share the moment w stays :”
he just casually chatted while kneading the sujebi dough
staring into the fire and angling the camera the same way
sharing how his friend is afraid to go camping bcos of something he watched/read and the friend sent him that but he wldnt watch that in camp HASDHD
also i loved the magic powder and the naksansa walk, saying that may your wishes come true T_T
also i like how he always wears that pair of pants #practical_wardrobe
