Korean Wave/Hallyu Survey

Hello K-Pop and K-Drama friends!

So, I am in grad school and for one of my classes this semester, I am writing a paper on the Korean Wave and how its affected American culture. On the flip side, I am also looking into how American culture has influenced the Korean wave. I think it’s funny that some nct stans hate the expanding concept because sm has been obsessed with the idea for a million years. S*ju was originally gonna have it but then fans got so mad when they tried to add two members that they protested outside the building and bough shares in the company (on the one hand we were saved from dealing with a giant s*ju group but on the other hand we’re stuck with the current group of creeps)

no really when u look thru sm's bg history it's so obvious how they have been building up to nct the whole time like s*ju supposed to be rotational and exo having subunits based on country.......and it's crazy that they keep trying like they're lucky kpoppies these days r pussies and would never even think of direct action violence lmfao or ncity would've blown kwangya up by now

if u were 13 in 2013 i think that was just the year they blew up 😳 before exo-m I never kept up w/ chinese music but suddenly they were this huge phenomenon, and probably the first kpop group to get so big there (suju-m flopped rip..)

yep yep I was in 8th grade I think. honestly i was a petty little teenager and I didn’t like them at first because of that whole feeling of “everyone’s into them now and no one’s talking about the groups I like anymore” but it didn’t take very long for me to come around, especially when I was 14 and rly getting into kpop more than ever and learned that taemin and kai were besties and all that.

man was exo blowing up in the states massively tame in comparison to what’d happen with b/t/s pretty soon after that……… sweet summer child me……….. didn’t know what was coming

#kibumblabs #also yeah suju-m shouldn’t have flopped but alas…….. I think they just weren’t marketed super well tbh like in comparison to exo-m #and of course exo just had the extra kick of being brand new and newly popular and all #and more social media which. I think attributes to every group that’s gotten big internationally over the years since suju started it all–#the more social media to use for advertising and interaction with fans the more popular the groups are gonna get. hence why you have that #stairstep of like. exponential growth. bts is really close to exo in age/debut date but they went hardcore with more social media presence #than any other group Ever at that point in time. thus the members were more visible and seemed closer to the fans and blah blah blah #you get it. like I can’t stress enough how Little any of this has to do with any group’s amount of Talent. it’s solely advertisement and #cultural/societal shifts especially in regards to social media #gotta give exo some mad credit though for being the first group to get big enough in the states to be considered trendy and cool to be into #because even though there were groups pretty big in the states in their respective niches- being someone in middle school in this time #period- boy it was Not a ‘cool’ thing to be into and I heard plenty of racist remarks back then pre-exo when certain other kids learned I l #liked kpop and whatnot. it was weird (not in a bad way) to see that shift so fast into being at least Normalized and not just another thing #lumped in with weaboos and like. any other East Asian media really.#sorry this was long I just. went through a bunch of middle school flashbacks there for a sec

Jeongsu always believed that having favourites wasn’t healthy, which is why in every interview that super junior did as a group and he was asked a question about his favourite member, he would joke and say ‘however has been nicest to me this week’.

Yet something always nagged at the back of his mind, Jeongsu knew that super junior’s maknae would always hold a special place in his heart; for two reasons, m!n was the maknae, he loved to care for him even his he had to fight him too and secondly m!n was his boyfriend of course how he acted toward him and their members were different.

Jeongsu knew that both his members and their fans could tell how he acted towards m!n was different and he never wanted any member to feel left out; yet how could he not be able to cope without loving his boyfriend? They had been working together since 2003 when m!n had joined SM when he was 20 and m!n was 15, and in 2009 they finally began their relationship with fans not being informed until late 2015.

For nearly two decades Jeongsu has loved and admired m!n and his work ethic, from the group nearly disbanding numerous times, to family problems as well as problems within the company, m!n has stuck by Jeongsu and for that he will forever be in his debt.

Now although fans and members alike find their relationship admirable, the members especially get sick of the ‘favouritism’, from Jeongsu saving food; to only inviting m!n out or just paying for their meal, the rest of the members have slowly grown tired of it, and when they tried to speak up about their leaders blatant bias towards his boyfriend. Jeongsu quickly switched it on them.

With Jeongsu stating that they all dote and baby m!n and have since 2003, since he was the youngest he had special treatment, even more so due to Kyuhyun refusing to even hug the members, m!n received all the love and affection from the other members.

That had the rest stumped, they hadn't even realized they acted as they did towards m!n and they now couldn't even blame their leader for his favouritism as they were just as bad.
