When Owen falls for someone, he falls hard. He tries to distract himself with his work but it’s not entirely easy when one’s work is a dining establishment people frequent- because it is the ONLY dining establishment. Even when he tells his stories does he find his eyes finding them in the crowd and wanting to see every reaction they have to his words. He too is a romantic, but he’s not as grand and bold as Arvio may be. He likes the quiet moments. He’ll confess by asking to cook for them privately, to tell them a story as he stands at the stove. He’ll confess he wants their full attention for this one moment, and from then on can he find himself happy that work and home life mix when he cooks for them both.

✂️Pablo✂️:

Him actually settling down on a crush and love is new to him. This is someone he finds himself liking regardless of what they dress like or style themselves. No one is more surprised than him. He tries to show it, and for all his confidence and suaveness, he’s kinda struck shy by the whole thing. More compliments are thrown out there, more skin care products, more asking of their style from back home. It’s not until they’re there for another hair appointment with his hands in their locks does he crack in a quieter voice saying he likes them and he doesn’t think that loving them will ever be out of style.

Unsuur doesn’t really understand his feelings for a bit of time and they unnerve him a bit because it’s something out of his control. It’s out of his unique sense of his profound understanding of the world and life itself. He’s not great with people, yeah. But the fact that the builder continuously comes back to talk with him? That they invite and include him in things? They give him rocks and stones? The moment he realizes he’s falling in love, that’s it. Everything now makes sense. So they next time they give him a gem? He’ll ask if they realize what it means- he’ll ask how many he’ll have to accept until he can kiss them finally.

Hii I have a bit of personal question, if that is alright. I am very interested in the American Revolution but I do not live in America. I would like to become a historian or researcher of that time period one day. As a student do you think it is difficult to be a historian of the American Revolution when you are not American? I get a lot of books and information online, but I do not think it is the same as being in a place? Do you think your school program a good stepping stone to get into an American graduate school? Is that something you want to do one day?

Hi Anon! This is a really good question, and I'll do my best to answer it as both a history student and a university professional.

(First, I'll note that my interest personally is not primarily in the American revolution, but rather in the 18th century more broadly. That includes lots of angles that I can pursue in Europe, not least looking at relations in the Atlantic world, the "republic of letters" and the enlightenment, and thematically I'm interested in queer history, which can be studied everywhere. I also have no desire to live in the US. But, yes, let's assume AmRev is the focus.)

There are different considerations for undergrad vs postgrad.

Undergraduate

At undergraduate level, it doesn't matter too much where you study. At this point in your journey, broadly speaking, the focus is on developing your academic skills, learning established content about your topic, and exploring a range of scholarly interests (not just the topic itself, but how to research that topic – i.e. methodologies). As long as your university has a department for American history, or even better a major, you're fine.

While you're busy with your degree, you can supplement your learning about the period in a lot of ways, including:

Using your own library to access books, journal articles and databases (and getting materials through inter-library loans if need be)

Using the vast and ever-growing online resources on American history provided by institutions like the Library of Congress, American universities and libraries (e.g. NYPL)

Where something isn't already available online, contacting the archive that has it and seeing if you can get a copy (I wrote a post about that)

Talk to your history prof about your interest, and they will probably be able to suggest some avenues to pursue. One very useful tool is to look up the AmRev curriculum or syllabus from other univerisities and see what readings and topics they cover (just google: "american revolution" syllabus). Here's one that came up.

And then – and I'll put this point in bold because it's the most important thing I'll say here:

👉✨Attend conferences✨👈

Conferences are where you make invaluable connections with like-minded scholars, hear about new research, find out about opportunities (scholarships, programs, funding, etc.), discover what a career in academia actually looks like, get advice from people already doing the job you want to do, and so on. There are even conferences specifically for undergrad students, or there might be a track at a generalist conference that allows emerging researchers to present on a topic. Lots of these take place online (hence, cheaper), or you might be able to apply for funding from your university to attend (or idk you have a fabulously wealthy great-aunt).

Postgraduate

While undergrad is more about learning, postgrad is more about finding out. The higher up the ladder you go, the narrower your focus becomes, and you start to need more specialised guidance. To get the most out of your learning, you need to go where the experts are, and naturally, many of the most cutting-edge scholars on American history are, well, in America. You'll want to be surrounded by a community of like-minded scholars. And yeah, "being there" can be important not just for better access to primary materials, but also for insights that come from physical, social and cultural proximity.

That said, I don't think it's impossible (or inadvisable) to study the American revolution outside of America; it's just trickier. Doing that successfully comes down to 1) finding the right advisor and 2) choosing the right topic.

By this point, you should know who the leading scholars are in your particular niche of interest. Nobody really studies "the American revolution" writ large; rather, they (and you) will focus on the political or racial or sociocultural or regional or culinary or-- whatever aspect of it. It might just happen that the people in your field are located near you.

You can also approach the topic from a different angle – start from a local point of interest that you can to relate to the AmRev. (Maybe you're Italian, and you know about Italian History Blorbo who went to fight in the war, and there's a story to tell there. Maybe you're Dutch and you have things to say about the intricacies of the financial and political support the Netherlands gave to America. And so on.) This might, in fact, lead to novel insights and perspectives that haven't been explored yet.

Why of course :)

Despite what he might tell you, his immune system is absolute sh*t and he gets sick a lot, though he usually works it off and there’s a 50/50 chance as to whether it gets better or worse.

^sorta related to the hc above: heat exhaustion. Yeah. He’s suffered from it on more than one occasion yet he still works outside when it’s boiling hot for WAY too long.

^oh yeah he also has asthma but refuses to use his inhaler cuz he’s afraid of being seen as week. Same goes for his iron supplements and meds that his therapist gave him.

If he gets into a serious fight that’s going too far, either the person he’s fighting has to give up, or someone has to separate them. There’s no other way for it to end. Texas is going to fight till his very last breath, and would rather die than accept defeat.

It follows the events in this post, where, Jason happens to run into Tim following a mission in a small port city halfway across the world from Gotham. It's been months since anyone has seen Tim, and Jason's kinda been blaming himself for setting the whole sequence of events off-

Eventually, they grow closer. Things are getting worse in Gotham- Bruce is off the rails and Jason refuses to feel like that's his fault or problem in any way, and at first talking with Tim feels like a release valve. A break from watching things fall apart because the man can't stop. It's not lost on him that Bruce is hunting Tim down with far more fervor than he did Jason, back when he was the only one with a known double digit kill count.

He can't help but think it's because Bruce saw so much of himself in Tim. But Jason knows now that that's a mistake, because Tim got out. Tim's carved a life for himself, something small and quiet and peaceful in a way that he doesn't think Bruce would ever be able to manage.

And only he gets to see it. Nobody else knows any of it with Tim. This softer, gentler Tim is all his.

He feels less bad about wanting to keeping that way when Tim sends him a number he can use to call him. Their relationship repairs and deepens over time, until eventually Tim invites him to come see him, if he can get to x coordinates on x date.

Jason's floored when he shows up to the spot alone and Tim's right there. He's gained more weight in the time it took to go from hostile penpal to...whatever they were now, and Jason just cannot get over how pretty it makes Tim. There's actual, physical evidence that Tim's regularly prioritizing himself, and it's driving him a little wild. Gone are the days of entirely regimented and perfectly portioned meals and green juices and supplemental smoothies- Tim's fucking frying things. Jason gets a little dizzy over the idea of teaching him to bake.

Meanwhile Tim is a little nervous. Jason is still in like, peak physical condition due to being an active vigilante and Tim's just been...chilling? He's fully unprepared for the sheer level of attention paid to his newly developed love handles, or how much the man seems to enjoy just squeezing the soft bit of pudge over his abdomen. He's baffled- Jason looks like he's carved from marble, but acts like Tim's the one who should be worshipped.

There's a lot of Jason being unable to get enough of Tim like this, and a slow realization that he doesn't just want these periodic trysts between long periods of watching the Bats go to shambles- he wants to join Tim, he wants the softness and the peace for himself, too.

Maybe she'd like to go dancing together?? Mino is highly trained and experienced in Taldan Tango and other partner dances and there's a showcase coming up soon... would Cascade enjoy the honor of being her dance partner? She hasn't had anyone to seriously dance with her in... well decades! Aside from Woljif who she pretty much press-ganged into being her dance partner at the victory gala since she forced him to learn the moves as a training exercise.

Top: The first thing Mino notices is the color motif: the gold and black and white with red shawl. Hmmm... not Mino's typical color scheme but she can work with it! They'll have an opposite's attract kind of vibe for their paired entry. For this, she's going to go with a little bit of a swap on primary colors, bringing red to the forefront to counter her own paler and greener natural colors. For that, this deep crimson halter dress is absolutely gorgeous! The shimmer and shine on it will look great with all the jewelry she knows Cascade loves, and is what she would call 'tastefully' revealing. It calls to mind Cascade's usual red shawl but in primary, and the free-flowing hem will look great in the spins. There's a subtle floral motif that she'll carry into other parts of the look, too [and don't mind the silver, Mino will swap it for gold].

Bottoms: The dress is a bit short cut, though, so Mino also slides forth these shorts to wear beneath! They keep up Cascade's black and gold preference, and will create a fun peek-a-boo effect. They'll keep Cascade comfortable and should be plenty capable of keeping up during the dance :)

Shoes: Right, the 'shoe' situation. Hrmm hrmm hrmm, Mino hasn't had to work with hooves before. She trusts Cascade to supply all the jewelry she has but doesn't want to go with just that... so how about these 'barefoot sandals' in gold color? They continue the floral motif and will look so fun between the hem of the shorts and Cascade's hooves! They're delicate looking yet sturdy enough that they won't need to worry about pieces flying off or getting damaged, too. Mino will make sure they're probably fitted to hooves!

Hair/Hat: What's that? A little bit of green in your wardrobe, Cascade? Well what a perfect color to round out the crimson and gold and also tie back into Mino's own outfit and colors she'll be wearing! It's tough to pick something that wont interfere with Cascade's pretty horns (why would we ever want to hide those!), so for her hair, Mino'll help tie up those pretty black tresses into this gold and emerald piece with vine and floral motifs! She'll leave some flyaways to to accentuate the spins, but not enough to get into Cascade's eyes, and this will pull everything back to really show off how pretty those horns are.

Other Accessories: So. Many. Accessories.... Rather than a free-flowing shawl (that could get lost in the dance!) Mino is supplying this golden lace shawl instead that fits more like a bolero top! The deep golden hue is so, SO pretty and will look gorgeous with Cascade's own natural tones. It won't be at risk of flying off and the front clasp can be adjusted with any piece of jewelry from Cascade's own (impressive) personal collection. NOW! That being said, Mino has picked out a few suggestions! She wants to continue the emerald compliment color with these various pieces: a chain circlet similar to what she's seen Cascade rock before but not as in her face and possibly a distraction; these thick cloth emerald and gold bangles and bands (love a solid block of color!); these bracelet and ring combo with chain across the hands (a classic look for her); and lastly these gold floral ear cuffs (modified for tiefling ears!) that'll pair well with the hair piece. Mino of course encourages Cascade to supplement whatever jewelry she wishes! She knows she is but an amateur in comparison >flushed<
