Gatekeeping is not cool.
I'm enjoying the new Obi Wan Kenobi series, and looking for gifs to reblog I've stumbled over quite a few posts complaining about the montage at the beginning of ep 1, because "what business do you have watching that show if you haven't already seen Episode I-III before??"
No, guys.
You're not a better or truer Star Wars fan, just because you have been there from the beginning and/or seen every snippet of material.
Someone isn't a lesser fan, just because they've only gotten into Star Wars when Episode I came out - hey, maybe they weren't even born when the original trilogy came out? Also, someone maybe wasn't even born when Episode I-III came out and got into it only when Episode VII came out? They're not a lesser fan than you.
Someone might not or might only like the original trilogy or any of the later ones. Someone might only like the trilogies and none of the other movies from the SW universe. Someone might only like the movies and none of the other material. They're not a lesser fan than you.
Hell, someone might even just care for the new show because they find Ewan McGregor hot, and they have no idea what Star Wars is all about and are very grateful for the montage at the beginning. Maybe they get into it, maybe they don't - but that doesn't give you the right to ridicule them and tell them they have no business watching the show.
You're not a better or truer fan than them, you're just gatekeeping. And that's not cool.

the thing is I wouldn’t even like mind the whole “Force dyad with Rey turning Kylo good” thing if that story was properly told! but because they took an abrupt turn after Ep VII (partly due to the racism demonstrated by the SW fandom and the Reylo fandom in particular) we’re left with a whole bunch of pieces that don’t fit into a coherent whole story. the story that centered the Rey/Kylo dynamic was never planned to be the main story, so they had to make major changes in Ep VIII (changes that included racist writing for both Finn and Poe) and the potential Rey/Kylo story that could have maybe been good never materialized, and the promised story that centered Rey and Finn and their dynamic was never followed through on, and so what we got was an incoherent mess that made nobody happy but did make Disney a lot of money.

Star Wars: If the Sequel Trilogy was in the Old Expanded Universe.  Episode VII
With the recent reactions to the whole of Episode VIII: The Last Jedi, I began to notice that there are many similarities to certain characters. For Example, Ben Solo has an almost beat for beat personality to Kyp Durron save some differences, and Rey is a decent duplication of Jaina Solo down to the whole ability to hardwire and fix mechanics, along with her droid. I started to wonder what would happen if you put the whole of the movies into the Old EU of Star Wars, and figured, why not share it.
Do note that rather than dealing with the Vong and the Dark Nest and all that followed these Movies take place of that.
 The Force Awakens:
We start just as we did before in the movie. Opening crawl and all indicates that the First Order has been causing issues. The Empire, given it’s size right now, has been unable to stop the buildup, and has pretty much said they have nothing to do with them and are not about to help out stopping them as they are not their problem. The Resistance exists, and while some Senators secreatly applaud their actions, they can’t say it in public. Leia is still the head of this. Luke hasn’t been seen in a while; and we get indication that the Jedi order has been dealt a very depressing blow due to the destruction of their new Temple (as they moved off Yarvin IV after the Republic requested spaced for creating a new home world for those that don’t have a place to stay). Han is off trying to figuring things out about some issues. Leia has sent out Poe and another to retrieve info from Lor about Luke’s map…
We get a shot of space and the incoming First order ships over Jakku, then cut to Poe, who is talking to Lor and gets the item that he needs. During this time, his communicator goes off, with a static voice calling out to him, to get out, that the first Order is there and abort the mission. However, much of that gets cut off, and all you hear is “They’re here!” and the first explosion hits. Poe and BB8 try to get out but as he’s trying to get in contact with the person over the com it gets blown up.
Kylo Ren and the guards show up, and we pretty much get a shot for shot situation with Poe and Kylo. Kylo takes Poe, BB8 sneaks off, and Finn decides it’s time to split from the Troopers. We later see as the ship is passing through space another craft using cloaking tech, much like what Darth Maul was using, and the smaller ship waits till the larger crafts leave. We get a quick shot of the pilot’s eyes, then their hand as they’re trying to decide what to do, eventually turning their ship and heading down to Jakku.
Rey’s situation is pretty much the same as it was, the only difference is we see a quick shot of something streaking across the sky. Later, when she’s returning her items, we get a shot of a cloaked figure talking to people and looking around, and so forth. Rey takes notice but really doesn’t think much of this, and does her own thing. She meets BB8 and we have that moment.
Poe pretty much has the same situation with Finn and Kylo on the Finalizer, the difference though is that his tone indicates he knows who Kylo is, and that only serves to either upset Ben more, or makes him curious of what the hell is going on. Finn of course goes to rescue Poe, and we get their little escapade. Meanwhile the cloaked figure sees Rey with BB8 and takes a scooter back to the main little town. Here’s where things change.
So Finn comes in with his jacket. He goes to get the water, and same as before, notices the guys looking for him, or so he thinks. He also sees the cloaked figure that Rey notices and she’s more nervous about it, and that it’s following her and BB8 doesn’t seem to know who this person is. Rey runs into Finn and the two have their little meeting moment. However, the duo decide to sneak out of the town carefully, avoiding the soldiers. Only to have their plans somewhat thwarted when a sudden force push knocks them both back. The cloaked figure is standing there blocking their escape. Rey jumps into action, along with Finn, but both are out classed and soon a light saber is drawn, with a pink hue, and it stops at Rey’s neck as Rey’s staff is right at the Cloaked figure’s neck is, ready to break it.
Cloaked figure seems curious about this, and is about to ask something, as their blaster is trained on Finn, and BB8 makes a noise, causing the figure to look at it and sigh and speaks with a voice muffled and electronic, “If you say so, fine. They’re not the enemy here.” The cloaked figure puts down their weapons, and Rey is ready to ask if they are Jedi. Just then, the damn ties come in and ruin that moment. The group of four now race away towards the ships, avoiding the blaster fire, Cloaked figure using some skill to block some blasts from the ground crew with their saber, and Finn firing back.
They race for a ship, and they nearly get to it when it blows up, and Cloaked says, “Seriously?!” It’s then that Rey says she knows another one, and they turn to run towards it, Cloaked following and when they see it they say, “You have got to be kidding me!”
The foursome get aboard the falcon, with the cloaked figure helping Rey in the cockpit, and says that Rey seems to be very good at this. She explains that she pulled apart ships and knows them very well. The figure seems impressed but quickly manages to help her stabilize the ship and they take off. Of course, Ben is not too happy with this and it’s made known.
On the Falcon, while Finn and Rey are talking the Cloaked figure is trying to get a message sent out to the Resistance, and is having trouble sending out things, but they’re able to make out that Poe made it back safely and the figure seems to be relieved. They turn to talk to BB8, but get the attention of Finn and Rey, who both want to know who said figure is. The Cloaked Figure pulls off the hood and then a breathing mask to reveal a young woman with dark hair and blue eyes. She looks between them and says, “Jaina, you can call me Jaina for now.”
“Are you a jedi?” Rey wants to know, and Jaina shrugs.
“Most of the time, other times, not so much.” The young woman is older than these two by a few years at the very least. Rey asks her some questions, and Jaina avoids directly answering as she and Rey agree the first order of business is that they have to get back to Resistance and figure out what to do with Finn. She thinks he may be a spy for the First Order and has been keeping her blaster on him this whole time. She has off her Cloak and is dressed in a mix of Leia’s red empire outfit and a jedi uniform. Finn makes the mistake of bringing up something to do with what she was doing on Jakku, and this gets her to threaten him, which leads to a quick moment of tension since she wants to know how he got Poe’s jacket. Just then the group gets sucked in by Han’s new ship.
Same things going on with Ben as in The Force Awakens.
When they are on the ship, the three humans and the droids get ready for anything, and while Rey and Finn are underneath, Jaina is up above ready to drop on whoever comes in from above them. This turns into a funny moment where she drops on Chewie and then realizes it’s him, and is like “Chewie?” Of course Han comes in, Rey, and Finn meet him, and then Jaina sees her father and the first thing out of their mouths are:
“Dad?”
“Jaina?”
Finn asks, “Wait you two know one another?”
“Of course we do. Han Solo is my father.”
“So that makes you Jaina Solo?” Rey looks amazed. Of course, after some back and forth, Jaina pretty much asks her dad directly why the Falcon was on Jakku. Moreover, that’s when Boba Fett walks in and all hell breaks loose.
We learn very quickly that Han has been looking for Jaina’s twin brother Jacen who went off looking for Luke and hasn’t come back at all. We also learn that there was a apprentice of Luke’s that caused destruction to the temple, and that Jacen had left after this, against Jaina’s wishes. He wound up getting some tips from a Black Sun member, who screwed him over and pretty much it was the Falcon or they were going to kill a friend of his who got them the info. Jaina wants to know why Boba Fett is there, and he directly explains that Han owes him for saving his life that night. So in order to get the Falcon back they were using the ship they were on to transport the monsters and the deal was they were going to get the Falcon back upon delivery.
Han explains the issue with the Jedi, and Jaina and him have a back and forth over Ben, her explaining that Jacen still sees good in the missing student, but Jaina doesn’t have high hopes after what happened. Han has mixed feelings on this, and talk turns to Luke, and the map. It’s then that they get attacked, Jaina stays above to act as a go between as a Jedi, hoping to help out with Fett, but as we know, monsters get out. Everyone scrambles on the Falcon, and Fett joins them on their little trip.
We get a scene between Han and Jaina about Finn, and Han telling her that Finn seems like a good person, because of his gut. Jaina questions that, but she also tells Han that there’s something very familiar about Rey, she can’t place it. Fett seems interested in Finn because he saw his training before and suspects him to be a Trooper; he confronts Finn on this, and tells him if he’s doing any funny business he will kill him.
The group lands by Maz, at Takodana and here things change slightly. Han talks to Maz with Jaina and Chewie. Fett says he’s leaving as their deal is done. He gives Rey a look that says that he’ll see her around.  Finn and Rey have their moment, and the spy alerts the FO. Finn intends to leave and starts to do so, Jaina notices this, and excuses herself. She goes to talk to Finn as he’s getting ready to leave with the group. Here we learn that she had an elder brother, Ben, whom she feels may be lost. Meanwhile Rey is drawn to the saber. The First Order comes and attacks. Rey runs off into the woods, leaving behind the Saber. Jaina and Finn rush back to the cantina after the huge explosion in the sky from Hux et all.
Here again is a change. While the fighting is going on, troop transports come into drop off the resistance fighters. Along with these fighters are Jedi, including Kyle, Coran, Anakin Solo, Kyp Duron, and Mara Jade The Jedi help make short work of the Storm Troopers and we have a moment where Phasma comes into play when Mara recognizes the fighting as her style of training. Anakin runs into his sister and Kyp winds up helping Finn with Kyle. Jaina tells Anakin that Rey is in the woods with BB8. Anakin runs into the woods to find Rey. The two meet, and Anakin tells her to come with him, but is attacked by Kylo, who hesitates to kill him, as he recognizes his younger brother there’s a short duel, and Anakin is knocked out. Rey runs but is then taken and BB8 gets help in the form of Chewie and Kyp. Chewie checks on Anakin who is waking up and tells Kyp that he was hit and Kyp senses Ben. He rushes off to see the ship taking off and becomes pissed that he missed Ben, and he takes out his anger on the remaining Troopers, much to Anakin’s annoyance. It’s clear he blames Kyp for something.
Han and Leia meet. Finn talks to Leia who introduces him to Mara and Coran who are in charge of the Jedi right now along with Kyle. Coran is working with their new Acting grand Master Saba Sebatyne to try to stop the First order as the number of Jedi are limited. The Republic has issued, due to the First Order fans in there, that the Jedi are technically a war organization and are not allowed to practice or help the Republic. So most members are now working undercover to try to learn what they can about the First order. Kyle is field leader, while Mara is the Jedi Spy master here, and Coran is the tactician working with Leia on movements.
We learn too that Mara is hoping to find out about Luke, and is surprised to hear about Rey as she thought she sensed something while they were dealing with the FO. Han says he picked up Finn and Mara says she senses something about him. While Han and Leia discuss their son, Kyp talks to Finn about the light saber he has and Finn won’t let him touch it as Maz told him not to. Kyp pulls it from him and examins it and then hands it over to Anakin, who recognizes it from drawings that Luke and he found when he was younger at Obi Wan’s home. It’s Vaders original light saber.
The group goes back to the Resistance base where Poe and Finn meet again along with BB8. Poe is happy to see him and then also happy to see Jaina, whom he regards as a little sister. Anakin mentions to his mother about Finn, who is taken in for questioning. Poe vouches for him but Coran still wants answers. Finn explains who he is, and how he met BB8 and Rey. Han and Leia discuss Kylo, and Mara interjects pointing out the fact that there are ways to go to the dark and come back. She’s a testament to that. Han notes that she’s “different” and the two nearly have an out and out argument over this. It’s only stopped when Leia cuts in.
Finn get’s more details about the dynamic of the base via Jaina and Anakin, and meets with Obi wan (Ben) Skywalker, the son of Luke and Mara, who is nine but right now learning from his mom and Saba. He says Finn is a good person. We also get a short flash of Rose her, as she comes over to get him to come help her with repairs, since he’s kind of in the way and no one wants him hurt. He felt the whole situation with the New Republic blowing up so Mara is worried about him.
The discussion turns to Rey, the new weapon that just went off and the destruction of the New Republic. Mara notes that they’re going to have to pull back everyone and consider what to do next as they don’t have exact schematics for the Star Killer base. Just then a report comes in that Star Killer has found their base and is now draining the sun to energize their weapon to destroy the Resistance. Finn steps up and says he can help and Leia has him show the setup of the base. Coran seems impressed and Finn explains how things work, while Coran starts to help him come up with a plan.
The group decides on two things, they will need to get onto the base and bring down the shields from the inside, meanwhile an offensive is mounted with the squadrons and word will be sent to any planets nearby to either get people evacuated or send help to fight. Kyp at first offers to go, but Han decides to take this as they need stealth and not someone who would be willing to start a saber fight. It’s decided on Han, Finn, Chewie to go in and take care of the issue. Anakin offers to come along, but it’s rejected as Kyle, his Master, notes that he’s not yet ready for such an job and having a jedi onboard could cause issue given his brother is there.
Rey has the same meeting with Kylo as per the movie and pretty much that goes off with her getting away as well. Finn, Han and Chewie land and make it to the side of the building and are about to sneak in, when they nearly get caught by a snow trooper, who gets knocked out by Anakin Solo, and the foursome brings him inside. Han is none too happy that his youngest snuck on the Falcon, he says he’s his father’s son and Han says, no you’re more like your mother. The foursome make their way around the place, after Finn and Anakin pretend to be troopers that caught Han and Chewie. They eventually come upon Phasma, and after Anakin and Finn trick them into switching with them, they capture Phasma, and force her to drop the shields. She’s reluctant at first, but Finn points out that she’s out gunned and numbered.
She warns Finn that he will pay for this humiliation but puts in her code and Anakin lowers the shields, as Phasma refuses to do so. They knock her out and drop her in the garbage chute as Finn notes she can easily get out of being tied up. Rey, of course, is making her way around and Kylo senses her and others (Anakin for sure, Finn maybe). Rey runs into Finn and Co, and the two young men greet her warmly. Finn with a hug and Anakin with, what could be called, a Force handshake of sorts. Rey knows then that Anakin is a Jedi.
The group splits up. Han, Anakin, and Chewie go to plant the bombs while Rey and Finn head off to disable some of the electrical systems so that the base can’t allow anymore tie fighters out. During this Kylo finds the group planting the bombs and confronts his father on a bridge. Anakin can feel something is off with his brother, but hopes his dad can help him. Unfortunately Kylo attacks and wounds Han. Fortunately for Han though, Anakin realizes what’s going to happen and force pushes his older brother’s hand some allowing the saber to miss a vital spot on Han but wound him badly. Han starts to fall and Anakin rushes to grab his father before he plummets to his death.
Rey and Finn see this and Rey freaks out. The distraction is enough for Chewie to hit Ben and send him back from Anakin, who pulls Han up  and then turns on his brother ready to rage on him, but one of the bombs goes off and it blocks Kylo from coming closer to Anakin who has his saber out. Anakin gets Han to Chewie, and he blocks the blaster fire coming at them from the Troopers and the trio leave the room with a badly wounded Han. Finn and Rey escape from the balcony and manage to get back outside as the fight above rages. Speaking of, Red, Black, and Blue squadron are trying to make head way even with a bunch of things happening. They are eventually joined by Jaina, Kyp and Coran in a X, Y and E wing to help in the fight using their skills as pilots and jedi.
Back on the ground Rey and Finn hurried away from the base and ran into trouble with Kylo. Basically the whole thing that happens in the fight with Kylo happens here. The ground splits and the Falcon comes with Chewie at the controls. Rey takes over flying while Anakin tends to Finn and Han as best he can. Rey can tell Anakin is furious.
Poe blows the planet up, and the ships get away. Upon landing we see Jaina rush over to Anakin and hug him as the two head out after their father and Finn with Poe. Poe, before he leaves, gives a gentle touch to Rey as if to say it’s going to be okay, and then hurries off with the others worried about Finn and Han.
Chewie hugs Leia, then let’s her go as Coran and Kyp go with him to make sure he’s okay. Leia hugs Rey and we transition to the end of the movie.
Leia has a meeting with the remaining crew. We learn Han is alive, barely and was sent with a medical team to Courasant to be taken care of. Finn is in a bacta tank and being watched over by the medical staff and is right now in a induced coma like state. There’s a mini celebration, Rey and Poe meet for the first time informally. Ben comes over to Rey and asks her if she’s the person that Finn wanted to find, he also says he can see that she’s special.
Leia talks about their next option when R2 and BB8 come over with C-3P0 who explains that the two are saying they have the location of Luke. Mara and Leia insist it be pulled up and they do so, showing the galaxy and BB8 ads the location of the islands. Rey, who has the light saber gives it to Leia. Mara watches as she goes with Poe to check on Finn, and the two women share a silent look.
Later Rey gets ready to leave and it’s clear that the women have asked her to go find Luke for them. Rey says bye to Finn, and Jaina stops her before she leaves and then gives her a hug, saying that Finn would want to have someone give her that from him before she goes. Mara meets her just before she leaves and Ben gives her something, for luck, it’s a doll similar to the one that she had at the start of the movie. Mara tells her to watch herself, as the First Order will be looking for the Falcon. Leia meets with her an gives her the saber, hugs her and tells her May the Force be with you. Rey departs as the Resistance wave’s goodbye with her, Chewie, and R2 on the ship. Rey eventually makes it to Atch-too, where she climbs up the mountain and discovers Luke waiting. He has rocks floating there as if trying to find a balance.  Here he senses her and she holds out the saber. He lets the rocks drop, hesitates, and then takes it.
*Edited for misspelling of Jaina Solo (apologies for the spelling I was some what tired as I was writing this).  **Edit two: Trying to make it easier to understand that there are four Solo’s. Ben Solo -Kylo, Jacen and Jaina Solo -twins, Anakin Solo -youngest.
