Finally listened to Hozier's new EP and wondering how there aren't a dozen Star Wars edits to "Empire Now".

SO.
It is absolutely imperative y’all all go watch this right now because the amount of a masterclass this is in audiovisual editing this is cannot be overstated.
The amount that this creator clearly knew the characters and how best to communicate their deepest driving forces and core of their being and the primary themes of the story surrounding Cassian can also not be overstated.

SW - ALL TYPES OF LOVE WEEK
INFO
Star Wars: All Types of Love week is a fandom event of fancreations, lasting a week, that celebrates love in its many forms! Since we celebrate romantic love and familial love often, we thought it might be time to give an opportunity for other kinds of love to shine!
Inspired by the Ancient Greek Philosophers and their seven kinds of love, we aim to showcase those different, less celebrated loves. Rooting for the little guys!
HOW TO PARTICIPATE
No sign-up, nothing. Just create!!!
Post during the appropriate week and you’re good!
We welcome any kind of creation, as long as it is truly yours. Even old posts being reblogged is fine! Old creations deserve as much love as new ones.
Fanfics, fanarts, moodboards, fanvids, fancomics, banners, playlists… An epic fic or a 100 word drabble, an amazing painting or a stick figures funny scene- we love it all!!
WHEN TO POST
Wednesday 7th of February, 00h00 PST, to Wednesday 14th of February, 23h59 PST.
HOW TO POST
Post under the tag SWATOLW during the week the event is running. Add the tag of the type of love you are representing.
Be sure to @ us so we can appreciate what you’ve made and put it in the round-up!
WHAT TO POST
Star Wars characters, places, animals, games… Be it from the movies, the novels, the comics, the shows like The Clone Wars, The Mandalorian, Andor or even your own OC, the important parts are:
It must be from the Star Wars fandom
It must be about Love and that love must be not romantic or familial
To get a better idea of what we mean by that, you can read more about the seven types of love here. In short, we want to give a chance to shine to:
Love of Friends #philia
Love of Strangers #agape
Love of Partners #pragma
Love of Players #ludus
Love of Self #philautia
You can post about any of these, at any time of the week. There isn’t a day assigned to each type. The point is to create without pressure and celebrate all the types of love we don’t often focus on! The more of these you depict, the more we will love you for it!
QUESTIONS
“I love my two clones who are bffs, but they are clones. Does their love count as familial?”
Well, the truth rather depends on your point of view how you present it.
Pairs like Fives and Echo, and Rex and Cody, are usually understood in canon and fandom to be family. They can be friends too, but we’d prefer to focus on other pairs for this event. Post another time. We’re sure people will love it.
Alpha-17 and Cody have a cross-generational friendship? As long as the way their relationship is described/shown isn’t the dynamic of big brother & younger brother, or father figure & son figure, it’s good!
Want to show off Waxer & Boil being two peas in a pod? We would love that! As long as it isn’t a ship or they, the characters, don’t feel like the other is kin in the way we understand it.
“I want to show my two Mandalorians who are Partners In Bounty Hunting, but they are from the same clan. Does this work?”
No. I’m sorry, but it does not. We consider clan to be the SW equivalent of immediate family, a close circle, so it’s not the right event for this. But it does work if they are just from the same house or faction!
“Can I do two Jedi who are teammates and lovers?”
You can show any characters (two, three, four…) having a relationship that is sexual and based on love. As long as that love is not romantic.
If what moves your Jedi is the sense of purpose found in duty, the common love for the Light and the wider galaxy, the playfulness and affection shared between bed partners, these feelings can be as big as the moon, and it is still fine!
That is the whole point!
Feelings can be enormous and serious and important and still not be romantic or familial.
But if it’s shown or implied that the relationship is romantic/familial or turning so at some point, that is not what our event is focused on.
We know people are a bit tired from the holidays and that Valentine’s Day is a period often rich with events, which is why we put these conditions so it can be as low-pressure as possible. The point is to rejoice in all the breadth and the richness of the human sentient experience of love. In the love of Star Wars. And in the love of this community.
Be civil and show goodwill to participants and spectators. Be kind. YKINMKATO. Go crazy! Be creative! Have fun!
Love!

"gifs = art" could you please elaborate on that besides the skill that goes into it?
🫥 i have no idea why people are looking to me to explain something that has been repeated by many gifmakers and content creators for *years* and should be common sense anyways but...
beyond the skill that goes into gifmaking (the time it takes, the practice required, etc.) the different colorings, typography, blending and other proccesses that some gifmakers use in their creations absolutely can and should be considered an artform. look no further than the gorgeous gifsets some of my very talented mutuals have made:
@yenvengerberg becca's colorful sets are art as far as i'm concerned! like just look at this. she transforms the media she gifs and makes it look completely unreal in terms of sheer beauty and creativity.
@sith-maul one of the best creators on this site. nik is just so so talented. everything she creates is so stunning; you can't look at a set like this, for example, and tell me that it isn't art.
@hoe-biwan again, everything that flo posts is beyond incredible. i don't even watch star wars and i still silently nod my head and gape in awe when one of her sw sets is on my dash. just scroll through the comic book-inspired sets flo's made!!! that's art <3
@buffysummers ok alexandra is such a talented creator and a HUGE inspiration for me when i started giffing years ago. her eye for coloring and scene picking is out of this world! this is a recent set of hers that i particularly adore.
these are just a few examples, but if you scroll through my own blog or the various edit tags for fandoms, you would see more of what i'm talking about. there are so many talented gifmakers and editors on this site who take time out of their busy lives to create for us, and it breaks my heart when their work is discredited or disregarded or underappreciated. for their work to be invalidated and not considered art when it very much is? not only is it rude, it further demotivates creators from contributing to the site and makes them feel like nothing they create is good enough - believe me, i know that feeling all too well.
i've made extremely detailed and color-specific sets before like these, and it took me 3-4 WEEKS. EACH. i'm not exaggerating in the slightest. and since posting them, they've already been reposted here on tumblr and on other sites like pinterest, twitter, instagram, etc. if you even have like a shred of empathy you can understand why that would anger and upset me.
i don't know why people assume that gifmakers copy and paste the same 5 settings on their gifs, export them, and call it a day - it's not that simple at all. so much more goes into making gifs, and the majority of people on this site continue to laugh in our faces, steal the edits we spent so much time and energy on, belittle our work and claim that it isn't art (and friendly reminder! we do this free of charge and ask for nothing in return beyond clicking the reblog button, and so many of you can't even do that much). i shouldn't have to sit here and validate any of that - the creations should speak for themselves. you consider fanvids, fanart and graphics "art" - so why not gifs, which make up the majority of the edits on this site and, in theory, help foster/sustain discussion and fandom?
reposters all run up and down claiming that gifmaking "isn't that difficult" with zero experience... yet if they tried it themselves, they would know that's so far from the truth. and they DO know that deep down, or they wouldn't steal our gifs from us in the first place if gifs were that easy to make 💀

My best friend is arriving for a visit, but I don't know exactly when he'll get here, so I'm passing the uncertain time with one of my favorite long-standing hobbies: watching Star Wars OT+PT fanvids set specifically to "This Is War."
It is the most SW non-SW song as far as I'm concerned and I always get a kick out of seeing how the vids assign the "roles" from the song: the good, the evil, the soldier, the civilian, the martyr, the victim, the prophet, the liar, the honest, the leader, the pariah, the victim, and the messiah. Everyone does it a little bit differently (though I stand by my long-term opinion that the correct choice for the last one is Anakin, while leader, pariah, and victor fit really well with, and build appropriately to, Leia, Obi-Wan, and Luke).
I also appreciate the comedy of some of them, like pairing Obi-Wan telling Luke about Anakin in ANH with "It's the moment of truth" or "the honest." But there are a lot of options for things like "the victim" or "the martyr" or whatnot (I'd probably pick Padmé for civilian but I saw one that chose Lando for that, which seems very apropos considering his motives in ESB, and I can see her as "the martyr" too).
Anyway. I've periodically done this for years and it's still fun.

Hello everyone!
Teenage Bounty Hunters is one of those series whose cancellation has hurt me a lot, it has a lot of potential that Netflix threw to the brink😓 but that doesn't take away from the fact that it's enjoyable every time it's revisited. And obviously the most important thing. The relationship between Sterling and April (ohhh Lord).
So I took a couple of weeks to make a fanvid, starting with finding the right song to give it that freshness (and it took a while to find it), I have to admit I enjoyed editing it a lot.
The SW-style transitions are in honour of our lesbian warsie :3 😏😏
Without further ado, enjoy it as much as I do and…
🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻Teenage Bounty Hunters and STEPRIL 4EVER!!!!!!!🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
👇👇👇👇👇I am grateful to find this version of the song:

Okay: Imagine (lol) that the Thrawn trilogy were being adapted into films. Who would be your fancast for Mara?
Oooh. I love this question (and if the right writer/director got ahold of it, I would love to see it happen if they could find a way to fit it into where they've taken SW). So, for gifs I've used Riley Keough from Mad Max because her hair is spot on. I don't think I've seen the actress in anything else, though, so I can't say I'd necessarily want to see her cast as Mara until I saw more from her.
Tumblr media
What I love most about this question is that it gives me a chance to shoutout an amazing Joker's Wild's channel that I found because I was searching for Mara content on YouTube. The dude has some amazing fanvids casting Scarlett Johansson, Karen Gillan, and Rebecca Ferguson. He also did a fancast video that I love here:
youtube
All in all, I'd say Rose Leslie would be my first choice
Tumblr media
probably with Karen Gillan right behind her.
Tumblr media
Apparently Mara Jade is Scottish in my brain.
Scarlett would be fantastic, but I think that too many would see her on screen and think of Black Widow instead of Mara.
Saying that, I think out of the three Mara vids on the YouTube page, his best one is with Scarlett. There's just a lot of great footage to use for it. I'd definitely recommend them all (linked above), but here's that Scarlett one:
Bored, ask me Star Wars things!
