#this is the episode that make me associate oden with takaharu immediately #i think it's really interesting to see how takaharu learns things #it's seemingly more difficult to understand some concepts by looking at them straightforward or deeply #when it comes to teamwork he doesn't understand why he has to wait and work with his team when he can go ahead and do a task himself but #when he looks as each ninninger as a part of oden that come together to form a great combination he understands #he gets that working together enables them to bring out each others strengths and learn from one another #while he could go alone he is missing opportunities to grow and isn't able to show his strengths to their full potential #episodes like this are why i like ninninger so much #i like the characters not knowing why they're wrong but self-reflecting and learning in their own way #//food #ninninger rewatch lb #super sentai lb #umbrella.thoughts #umbrella.posts

It's been interesting getting back into both Sam/Jack and MSR at the same time, I get to compare and contrast really similar themes (secret duty, dangerous truths, aliens, government oversight, honor, loss of family, pining, devotion etc) from really different framing. The X files is a much darker show overall and Chris Carter's misogyny problem and hand of fate baby arcs are frustrating and painful, and yet the MSR fic has so much more room to be much sweeter and more openly domestic and a lot of times the stakes are lower because as much as it affects their own lives, the Syndicate and the threat of Colonization is much bigger than what they personally alone can bring about or prevent. They have guilt and repression and fear of losing each other or the work to contend with, but we're also shown that as long as they have each other they're generally okay even without the work -- I mean aimlessness and depression (and out of character writing choices) yes, but the Syndicate operations aren't that closely affected by if Mulder and Scully are in the basement office or not, so you can conjure up a wide variety of believable paths for them to be together with or without 'the files.'

Meanwhile Sam and Jack could literally be prosecuted for disobeying orders/getting involved within the same chain of command, they could get their team or the whole program taken apart thanks to that excuse in the hands of Simmons or similar, they're directly on the front lines for 8 years and they're repeatedly shown via the quantum mirror that Sam and Jack both being active members of SG1 is the only reason Earth wasn't decimated in a hostile Goa'uld invasion so they can't just resign and be together. For a second you think there's a window but then there's a new war and they make Jack everyone's boss and send Sam to a different galaxy and then put her up on a ship, and you go; Oh. So that's an endless set of circumstances, then. There's so much 'be miserably, honorably apart, serving and pining forever or the destruction of Earth will directly be your fault' baggage baked into Sam and Jack's narrative setup that you're boxed into either character-bending wish fulfillment (which is satisfying to read but hard to commit to writing ime) or the soul excoriating 'hanging on waiting for what can never be' flavor of overly believable quiet tragedy.

I'm finding I'm spending more time with the show where the skinny grey aliens with big eyes are a lot more evil and the themes are more bleak but the characters are less entirely trapped by their own best intentions 💀😭😭

anh radio drama got me thinking abt an au where anakin and vader really are just two entirely different people the way it was originally planned to be before george lucas revised it. it would be such a massive shift though i have no idea how that would even work alongside the PT..... in this au vader would have to be in ahsoka's generation instead which brings up an even more interesting concept...... ahsoka's dark mirror in that she too lost her childhood and lifestyle to war but she turned away from the dark and kept the jedi in her heart while au vader turned towards the dark and slaughtered the jedi all at once

Simon sat away from the rest of the group, awake under the guise of ‘keeping watch’. Knees pulled to his chest, he stared out across the pit that divided the car in half. It wasn’t quite full yet, and the progress was painfully slow.

He’d fought with Grace twice in the span of a few hours, and it weighed on him heavily. The longer it went on, the more he desperately needed to return to some form of normalcy. And he knew that wouldn’t happen until they were back with the Apex.

There was a part of him that was growing more and more tempted to go on his own. He still had a working harpoon pack, and was relatively confident he could get safely across the pit.

The notion of leaving Grace felt a little wrong, but... she would catch up. And maybe her rush to find him would force her to stop being so indecisive.

Standing from where he was seated, he took a glance over his shoulder.

Only to notice that Hazel was looking at him.

He jolted in surprise, eyes widening for a split second- before he slowly sat back down, turning to face her this time.

“Why are you awake?”
