(I swear I’m writing with what free time I have as fast as I can. I know I’m way behind but I’m slowing catching up.)

Rene didn’t know what he’d been expecting when Curtis asked him to try some of his family’s eggnog recipe, but it definitely wasn’t this.

Shit, this stuff was strong.

“Is there alcohol in this?” Rene asked incredulously.

“Yeah,” Curtis said, “Did you think I’d show up to an Arrow party with regular-ass eggnog?”

Rene snorted, “If this is what you grew up drinking, it’s a wonder you turned out as smart as you did.”

“Aw, you think I’m smart?” Curtis teased, before getting distracted and running over to talk with Felicity.

Rene took another sip of his eggnog before muttering you himself.

“Yeah. Yeah, I do.”

26 Days of Gays #20: Terrificdog

(Soulmate AU)

Curtis hadn’t noticed how his nightmares never made sense until the Team Arrow sleepover.

Which, by the way, was absolutely not his idea.

But he noticed how in the morning, when Felicity and Oliver started teasing each other over the weirdass dreams they’d had that night, and Dinah and Laurel shared a hug over some nightmare, that Rene was strangely quiet.

“What’d you dream about last night?” He asked, thinking back to the nightmare he’d had. It hadn’t made much sense, (for one thing, he was straight in the dream) but all he’d really recognized was the terror. The raw fear he could barely shake, even now.

“None of your business, hoss.”

“Don’t make me unleash the Zoe,” Curtis warned.

“Do not,” Rene warned. They both knew how Zoe had a knack for getting her dad to say anything.

“Then tell me what you dreamed about,” Curtis pressed.

Seeing he wasn’t going to let this go, Rene sighed, “Fine. I dreamed about the day my wife was killed. Are you happy?”

Curtis had a sinking suspicion. He didn’t want to ask, but at the same time, he knew he had to. He didn’t want to make it too obvious, though.

“What was she like?” Curtis asked, “When she was alive, I mean.”

“A drug addict,” Rene said harshly, “But before that...she was great, when we first got married. She used to play hide and seek with Zoe a lot. It was adorable.”

“Was she pretty?”

“Yeah. Well, to me. She wouldn’t have been your type, though.”

Curtis couldn’t force himself to laugh. He needed to know.

“She had blonde hair, didn’t she?”

“What?”

“And brown eyes. She had bangs, and she didn’t look like Zoe because Zoe looks like you.”

“You never knew her. How do you know this? Did you look her up or something? Man, not cool.”

Curtis couldn’t meet Rene’s eyes. His soulmate’s eyes.

How could he have never seen it before?

“Last night, you dreamed of her death,” Curtis said, “And I saw it, too.”
