The crowd cheered for Hongjoong but his eyes only searched out for one head that stuck out above the rest. He was looking for you. He only needed to win one more fight, and he would get his freedom--and yours. You two had half-bottled dreams of leaving this place the two of you fought through as children. He didn’t know how far you’d get but he was damn determined to make sure you found a place to be yourself and to be with him.

It was easy to find you in the crowd, your head always high above everyone else. But even if he couldn't see you, all he had to do was follow the red string of fate that always connected him to you. There were too many instances when that had saved the both of you.

🌠🌠🌠The Past

A few years ago, when the red string could be seen by you both, you had become even more inseparable. The two of you laid on a rooftop, limbs entwined casually, when Hongjoong sprouted his plan.

“I’m going to start boxing,” Hongjoong said resolutely.

You sat up, eyes wide with alarm. “But Hongjoong--”

“I know the risk, Love,” Hongjoong cut you off, sitting up as well.

“Then you know I can’t risk you!” You protested.

Hongjoong smiled gently at you. “We can’t be together here. They’ll never let us. I have to try something.”

And so Hongjoong learned how to box. He trained with the other hopeful youths looking to earn their freedom.

Once a year, the man in charge of this city within a wall, held a boxing tournament. He said it was built on the foundation of the gladiators of old. In fact, it was just a source of entertainment for the ones in charge of this place. You knew that, Hongjoong knew that, but if there was a chance to be free of this place…

The city was once the unfortunate recipient of a toxic accident. In order to make sure that none of the infection spread, a wall was built around it. Anyone born in that city remained in that city. After years and years of oppression, the ‘higher up’s decided that it would benefit the populace if there was a way to earn your freedom.

🌠🌠🌠

You were there to wrap up Hongjoong’s hands before he donned the boxing gloves when he practiced. The material that protected Hongjoong’s hands passed through yours. You wanted to lean forward and kiss his fingers before you were done but you resisted. It wasn’t safe for anyone to see that there was a bond further than friendship between you and Hongjoong; it could be used against you, at the detriment of each other. But the small opportunity to ‘help’ Hongjoong was approved; you were his best friend after all.

Oftentimes, when the majority of the boxing club was gone, you were afforded quiet moments with Hongjoong. Always careful, you were the first one with the first aid box, rubbing ointment on a split lip or placing ice on a bruise. Hongjoong always thanked you with a quick smile.

“I don’t think Wooyoung isn’t going to last long, especially after that knock out,” You mused. You stood up and mock-jabbed at the air, pulling a chuckle from Hongjoong.

“I don’t think so either but I think one of the coaches is gonna ask him to be an assistant coach,” Hongjoong informed you.

Your eyes slid towards Hongjoong, now clasping your arms behind your back. “But you aren’t quitting.”

Hongjoong shook his head. “Nope.”

You plopped yourself down on Hongjoong’s lap, wrapping your arms around his neck. “Are you sure I can’t convince you?”

A gleam of lust suddenly lit up Hongjoong’s eyes. “You could plead your case,” He suggested with a smile pulling up the corners of his lips.

Your arms around Hongjoong’s neck moved, tilting his head to the side to nibble at his ear, just the way he liked it. “I hate seeing them ruin your pretty face, Joongie,” You cooed.

“Ah!” Hongjoong exclaimed once your teeth set into his lobe. “It’s only--hhh--temporary.”

You followed a path of wet kisses and sharp nips along his jaw and down his neck. “Oh, well then,” You replied flippantly, settling back on his lap--away from the growing present in his pants. “If it’s just temporary.”

Hongjoong grinned but he groaned at the loss of your lips on him. “You’re such a fucking tease.”

Your fingertip found the head of his dick in his sweats and flicked it, causing Hongjoong to gasp. “It’s only temporary; you’ll be fine.”

Having his words thrown back at him, all he could do was pout and you cackled as you got off his lap. “Come on, we should head home.” You sent a dramatic look over your shoulder. “That is, unless you want to get caught.”

Hongjoong swallowed visibly and stood up, shifting his pants over his uncomfortable boner. “No, we can’t have that.”

You smirked. “No, I don’t suppose we can.”

🌠🌠🌠Present day

You shouted loudly from your place in the crowd. Hongjoong was fighting like the true scraper he was but you worried. His opponent was bigger than him in a way that you were certain would never fly in a real world boxing match. It was just another confirmation that no one actually left this place through this competition. But Hongjoong was determined.

Your heart ached at the sight of Hongjoong bobbing and weaving. His eyes were trained on his opponent, never faulting from his goal. He hadn't even winced when the man stormed out, a clear favorite of the crowd. Hongjoong’s left arm shot out, glancing off his opponent’s jaw, and then he received a punch to the gut before he could dodge out of the way. The bell rang to signify the end of the round and Hongjoong struggled to his corner.

You shouted for the crowd to move out of the way as your stomach moved upwards into your throat. You didn’t care for one fucking second one anyone thought: Hongjoong was hurt and you were going to his side. You followed the red string that remained connected between your pinky and Hongjoong’s, knowing eventually you would end at Hongjoong’s side.

Hongjoong’s coach was rubbing his shoulder muscles and whispering into Hongjoong’s ear as the medic was carefully handing some ice to Hongjoong. Hongjoong’s eyes widened as he watched you approach. He dismissed his coach, who sent you an unapproving look but moved out of ear shot.

You grabbed Hongjoong by the nape of his neck and pulled his forehead towards you. “That was kinda stupid, Hongjoong,” You hissed.

Hongjoong laughed. “I got more points than him.”

Your eyebrows furrowed inwards for a moment. “Throw the match. We’ll try again next year. Just don’t hurt your money maker, okay? I’ve kinda grown fond of your ugly mug,” You teased.

Hongjoong laughed and then groaned, clutching his stomach. “No, Love, I won’t throw the match. Now go back to the stands before Coach glares a hole into your back.”

You stuck your tongue out at Hongjoong’s coach but flounced away regardless. You pushed and glared at a few people until you arrived back at your previous position. Your gut was still twisting in worry, but you had to hope that the both of you would stick it to the man and leave this place. You needed it with all your heart.

🌠🌠🌠The Night before

“Fuck,” Hongjoong bit down on his lower lip.

You were deep in Hongjoong, as you preferred. Your strap-on was spreading Hongjoong’s tight little hole and he shuddered as the tip brushed his prostate once again.

“Deeper!” he whined.

You angled your hips and continued to thrust into your lover slowly. Leaning in to capture Hongjoong’s lips in a messy kiss, when you released him, a string of spit connected you, not unlike your red string of fate.

This was your view, no one else could have Hongjoong like this.

Hongjoong was losing energy; it was apparent in the way he stopped dodging oncoming punches. He acquired a fat lip, and you thanked God for the teeth guard. Soon, with all the points the opponent was wracking up, it was very clear that Hongjoong was not going to win.

You chewed on your lower lip, anxiety feeding you with dread, but still you were the loudest one cheering Hongjoong on. Even his boxing club mates had gone silent, eyes worryingly following the way he listed slowly to the left as he walked.

There was nothing you could do to protect Hongjoong, but then again, he had always been the one that protected you…

🌠🌠🌠The Past

“You smell like poop!” You insulted the other child that had been throwing dirt at you and calling you weird.

“At least I’m not a weirdo like you!” The kid threw verbal daggers at you back.

“Hey!” Hongjoong turned a corner and ran as fast as he could. He tackled the kid looking to throw a rock at you next and stopped him.

“Leave him alone!” Hongjoong pummeled the other kid until that kid who had been harassing you was crying, covered in snot.

Hongjoong stood up and approached you. Even as a child, his eyes still held an amount of warmth that was really only reserved for family. But then again, you two had always felt like a found family with each other. He offered you a hand up and you took it; he had saved you after all.

“You’re not weird,” Hongjoong mumbled under his breath, cheeks looking red. “Don’t listen to that poopie pants.”

You giggled and Hongjoong smiled. And at that moment, although neither of you could see it yet, the red string of fate connected between you two.

🌠🌠🌠Present day

There was a bit of a commotion at the table where the higher ups watched the match. They pointed to the dirty sign that showed how many rounds had taken place and it looked like they were comparing notes. If they ended the match due to points and not a knockout, Hongjoong’s plans would be completely ruined and each blow Hongjoong had received would have been for nothing.

Hongjoong guarded his body and his head alternatively, not allowing for his opponent to swing at him and finally cause a knockout. And just when you thought he was about to collapse, his listing turning into a stumble, when the opponent swung at the obvious weakness, Hongjoong ducked and delivered an upper cut to the man’s chin. The big man collapsed, eyes rolling into the back of his head, and the referee began the count. 1, 2, 3! The referee brought Hongjoong’s arms upwards in a celebration and Hongjoong was declared the victor!

You jumped up and down and shouted until you felt your voice go hoarse. Hongjoong had done the improbable! His love for you and his determination allowed him to do exactly what he needed. He fought for your love, and he allowed fate to lead him where he needed to go. You felt like your heart was going to explode. The two of you would celebrate in private, of course, but still, you made your way back to Hongjoong’s corner of the ring, and gathered Hongjoong up and twirled him around.

“Alright, alright!” Hongjoong protested against your chest. Even once you let him go, you saw how red his face was, using your height against him.

You grinned, letting your love for him shine from your eyes. “You did alright for yourself, short stuff,” You said, ruffling his hair.

Hongjoong swatted your hand away and bit down on a pout. “I’m not that much shorter than you.”

“Sure, sweetie, whatever you say,” You teased him, clamping a hand down on his shoulder companionably.

You’d show him later just how much smaller he was than you; that always seemed to get him the hardest.

You're The Sexiest Man Alive [of 2023] For Me

The title may seem like something obscene, but I promise you, it's not. For the record, this is another one of my appreciation posts but if the title suggests otherwise, that's on you. I just don't know what to put as the title so it is what it is.

For context, I'll tell a little story. I woke up to a post from PopCrave (I think?) on Twitter/X that People will be announcing the "Sexiest Man Alive of 2023" at 12mn EST (that's 1pm MNL time). At first, I was just like "Meh, okay, cool!". That is until I swiped over to my "Trends for you" page and I saw that Taylor Zakhar Perez is trending.

Curiosity killed me and I had to check why. Eventually, I found that people were rooting for him to be the "Sexiest Man Alive of 2023". I was just giggling and laughing at all the posts and comments the entire morning. So I [not so] patiently waited for the results and when the winner was revealed to be Patrick Dempsey (I knew him as Dr. Derek Shepherd from Grey's Anatomy and Robert from the Enchanted duology), me and my fellow TZP fans were just, shall I say, quite disappointed.

I mean to be fair, I was one of those folks who was silently manifesting it to be Taylor. But at the same time, I was on a 50-50 mindset. 50% was optimistic that it would be him and the other 50% was braced for acceptance that it won't be him considering the past winners of this whole category. I mean, there were some questionable ones but I'm not gonna talk about that.

For now, I'll just manifest that Taylor will eventually get this title. Maybe next year? Maybe in the years to come? I have no clue. So yeah, I do understand why my fellow TZP fans were slightly disappointed by this. I mean, how could we not root for Taylor? Come on, you tell me how.

So, just to put it out there, if we're talking the "Sexiest Man Alive" for 2023, it's definitely Taylor Zakhar Perez. How could it not be him? He's the definition of sexy and cute and hot all in one. One look at one of his shirtless photos from the Prada show back in June or in general will tell you that he's got this category in the bag...

Comfort clothing: Giant hoodie + soft cloth shorts, flared leggings + t-shirt, sweater + slacks. All with converse or these big fuzzy slip ons i love.

Hey Rosie, hope you’re doing well! I was thinking about PJM2 the other day and dreamt up that the album title was called Body. (If I am somehow right I called it here ‘first’ (in quotation makes because Army is large af )).

Do you think Jimin will take the route of having an album series like Suga and RM or will go a different way like Hobi? Because he created them so close together I can’t help but think they will be connected.

Is there a genre of music/style of song that you would like to see from him? I would love to see more from the same vein of Like crazy (song of the year for me) but also think he would kill a Latin or Afro dance vibe. I also would love to see a Ballad from Jimin again.

Similarly is there a type of performance you would like to see as well?

Lastly do you think there’s a possibility that PJM2 will be an English album, just based on some of the producers he’s worked with?

Hi, anon! I'm doing okay, how are you?

So you think Jimin will make an.. anatomy series with his albums? That'd be quite unique, hahahahah and fun, why not? I can imagine him creating a duology, a kind of journey through his emotions or experiences. "FACE" would encapsulate all the pain, insecurities and sadness, while the next album would embody everything that follows. The conclusion of the MV of "SMFPT2" could serve as a teaser. It would be truly amazing, to be honest.

I'd love to see him delve into songs like "Lie" and "House of Cards", especially; I think those styles complement his voice perfectly. I agree that a bit of Latin or Afro-dance music would also suit him well. Something like "Filter" would be great too.

I agree that he should do more ballads. Voices like Jimin's and Jin's go very well with that kind of song or genre, showing off their vocal prowess without straining them too much. We need more R&B songs from that man.

Regarding performances, I long for something as intricate as what he delivered with "Lie." I want to see Jimin not only executing a choreography but also narrating a story through his movements. Something similar to 'Serendipity' would be wonderful too. Essentially, I want to see him include more contemporary dance or incorporate it further into his choreographies and performances.

Yeah, I suspect the album will have more English tracks. Can't say if every single one will be in English, but I bet there'll be several in English. I feel this album or EP will be Jimin's big move into the Western market as a solo act.

why does nobody talk about this:

I've never seen anybody mention this before. how come when in the KOS duology, when they are dealing with the khergud, NOBODY MENTIONS THAT RAVKA TRIED TO MAKE THEM FIRST.

Obviously a khergud can only be created by a Fabrikator using parem, but parem hadnt been created in Siege and Storm, so they didnt even know that it was possible and they tried anyways (and in this scenario thats not a good thing)

the paragraph where they mention this goes on to say the subjects are First Army "volunteers" so my thought is this: what if they arent volunteers? what if Ravka did exactly what Shu Han did, only earlier and less successful? we're all judging Shu Han for creating the khergud program, but Ravka tried to do the exact. same. thing.

Counting down the hours - a numbers update!

Sherlock has managed to tie up fifth place in the listed fandoms, sharing the spot with Teen Wolf. And the tenth spot is now a 4-way tie between Merlin, Original Work, The Sandman, and The Witcher.

The evolution of Grandma Addams: Part 4

The Addams Family movies simplified greatly the “Grandma” character by reuniting her as one character... But in the process this actually complicated the whole Grandma situation, retroactively making continuity problems that fans and other adaptations play with even to this day... Well, you’ll see for yourself.

In the first “Addams Family” movie, Grandmama (played by Judith Malina) is depicted with an appearance similar to the one of Chas Addams drawing, while having a personality mixing the sitcom and the original cartoons. She is a short and stout lady in black dresses wrapped in black or faded-red shawls, with big frizzy untamed grey hair (the movie notably adds a lot of necklaces and rings, as well as mittens, giving her a sort of “creepy elderly bohemian” vibe). She is still a cook for the family - in fact we see most of the dishes she actually makes and... they range from the disgust to the purely grotesque (some of her dishes even still move in the plate). When the Addams family gets kicked out of their home, she also takes the charge of “bringing dinner” by hunting cats and dogs around town ; and from the various cookbooks she owns (some of which are actually anatomy manuals for doctors or books ABOUT BABIES), it seems she isn’t above a bit of cannibalism. The vast basement kitchen of the house becomes her domain (where she is helped by Lurch).

The movie also plays a lot her emotional, funny side from the sitcom by having her be actually quite mischievious. We see her in some scenes “playing” with the children (one deleted scene notably had her try to use the kid’s dart-blower at the charity auction), and she is shown to love jokes (she notably pulls one on Margaret during the séance using Thing to make Margaret believes she ripped off her hand). She is a happy, joyful, a bit childish old lady (if you can pass beyond her ragged appearance, dark clothes and habit of cooking babies)

However the movie introduces one BIG change. In the movie duology, instead of being Gomez’s mother like in previous incarnations, she becomes Morticia’s mother and Gomez’s mother-in-law. Gomez own mother (as well as Fester’s), “Mother Addams” is actually dead before the events of the movie (and before the birth of the children), killed by an angry mob. The change to Morticia’s mother notably brings me to something that the sitcom had already gotten rid off: Grandma’s dark complexion. She was more brown-skinned in the original cartoons, and while she was played by a white woman in the sitcom, here she becomes a very pale hag - which does make sense if she is the mother of the corpse-pale Morticia.

Another thing I did not mention but that was started by the sitcom: Grandma’s slowly moving in the family. In Chas Addams cartoons she is an occasional visitor: she comes from time to time, she joins the family during big parties, but she clearly does not live with them (in fact one of her early drawings show her arriving with Fester at the house, another outsider). In the sitcom she becomes a regular of the family, with her own room in the house and who appears in most of the episodes, implying she lives there on a regular basis - but she still isn’t in all episodes, and is sometimes said to be out for various trips and holidays (other times she just isn’t there with no real explanation). In the movies, Grandmama becomes an integral and permanent part of the household, never seen leaving their side.

One last small fact: If you look closely at her neck, you can see she wears a brooch or a sort of cameo jewel, like old ladies used to - but hers is shaped like a spider.

For the sequel, “The Addams Family Values”, Grandmama is played by another actress, Carol Kane, and she looks even worse than before. She is skinnier and smaller, with a more frail voice - on top of her unearthly paleness she now also sports deep dark circles around her sunken eyes, and she doesn’t have many teeth left... This Grandmama looks much more worn-out and much sicker than the previous, playful, bombastic Grandmama. But this can be explained by the fact that Carol Kane was actually MUCH younger than Judith Malina: she was in her early forties! A lot of makeup and prosthetics had to be used to make her look older - which also made her more decrepit.

As you can see on the picture above, another fashion detail the movie duology added to Grandmama: hats. This version of Grandmama often wears hats for going out (either for the charity auction, or for visiting Debbie). She is also seen wearing ribbons in her hair in the first movie during the séance (not that they make her hair less chaotic). In the second movie she does wear two big braids for some scenes - but her hair is still a mess and the braids do little to help.

An aspect of Grandmama that is much more highlighted in the movies (especially in the sequel) is her “witchy” nature. In the first movie she is the one leading the séance to contact Fester, making her the “medium” of the family, and in the sequel she acts the family’s “doctor”, trying to cure Pubert from his “disease” with a bizarre exorcism-like ritual, and finding his unusual disease in her old medical grimoires. She is also seen putting a curse on Debbie using a skull - a curse that actually does work, given Debbie’s “burst and burn” end.

As one would say, this version of Grandmama does look like she is up to the name “Frump”, but due to the success and popularity of the Addams movie creating an alternate “canon”, they actually started the whole “Is Grandmama Gomez or Morticia’s mother?” debate among the Addams audience and fandom. To the point some people claim Grandmama was originally intended by Chas Addams to be Morticia’s mother and the movie went back to the “original”, while the sitcom diverged by making her Gomez’s mother. This is false: Charles Addams always intended Grandma Frump/Grandmama to be the mother of Gomez - it is the duology that diverged from the established canon by making her Morticia’s mother, something that had never been done before.

why does it feel like EO2 has the most “motion” in its portrait poses out of all the mainline EOs? Like of all the poses in eo2 i feel the only ones that are static or just lacking are Alchemists 1-4 and Ronin 2 & 4.

Otherwise, just about every portrait’s got some flair in their pose, with Survivalists 1-4, Protectors 2 & 4, and Medics 1-4 having some of my favorite poses. Funny enough, the new 5th portraits for medic & survivalist are the ones with the least movement, but there’s still enough going on. Like they’re still ready for action (or to cause some mischief) in a way that fits their respective classes. Thats another thing I try to think about too. Like I wouldn’t expect the hexers to be doing any wild action poses, which they don’t, but their poses work for them. Also helps that hexers 1-4 have their cloaks doing a lot of movement for them.

As for other games, EO1’s definitely got the most static overall to me… understandably enough. First game, first time doing this and all. Maybe eo2’s poses were a direct response to that.

After that would be… eo4, then eo3, then eo5 for mainline.

…As for the EMD duology, I actually put their poses above EO2 for movement. EMD games actually have some of my favorite poses with the most movement. The alchemists are so damn STYLIN in EMD2!!

As for Nexus, there’s only 6 new portraits so it doesnt feel fair to count them. All the heroes are pretty damn static though. The vampires poses are cool though.

so the order of least to most movement to me is 1 -> 4 -> 3 -> 5 -> 2 -> EMDs.

There’s also a separate matter, being whether the pose itself is GOOD— as in a pose having a lot of movement but the pose itself just being kinda off (anatomy-wise), or meh. But this was moreso about how much movement the poses have in the first place.

#medic 1’s eo2 & emd poses are SO DAMN EXTRA FOR NO REASON. I LOVE EM #examples for my last point is eo5’s warlocks 2 & 4. like there’s MOTION in the poses but also the poses are just. weird to me.#like theyre kinda squatting but not really. & leaning forward a bit?? and their weapon being held up doesnt help the pose either #i think if the arms were lowered with the weapon— similar to war magus 1 & 3– itd be nicer??#etrian odyssey

Hi Cossette! Happy 2024 and I hope you're having an enjoyable year so far 🎉

Speaking of 2024 albums, Kali Uchis' Orquideas came out today & I found it very refreshing - normally I listen less to R&B / Latin Pop albums in full but Kali's new LP is very cohesive! As of upcoming music releases, because most of my favourite artists released new albums last year, I find the 2024 release schedule considerably more quiet. Nevertheless, I'm looking forward to new albums from: Bleachers, Faye Webster, Allie X, and Madi Diaz!

Also fingers crossed that we'll also get new music from Sabrina Carpenter 🙏

As of fantasy books, I currently have two physical books with me: Starling House (Alix E Harrow) and The Tethered Mage (Melissa Caruso). It's been a challenging time for me to read books electronically (the only device I electronically read on is the same device that I use for academia), so I really like being able to unplug & read something physically 💖

And ahh The Starless Sea is a perfect winter read ❄️ I rarely re-read books myself, but this is one of the few books that I revisit from time to time! My copy isn't with me right now as I'm still abroad, but I'm working on an edit inspired by this book so I've been slowly re-reading it on my computer.

Amongst the upcoming book releases, which new books / series are you most looking forward to reading? And do you tend to prefer standalones or series?

P.S. I'm looking forward to hearing Laufey performing Haunted & Letter To My 13 Year Old Self live!

hi jennifer!! happy 2024! i hope your year has been off to a great start 🤍

i haven't listened to kali uchis' new album yet, but i keep seeing these stunning vinyl pressings for it in one of the vinyl groups i'm in! i'll probably listen to it at some point for my 365 albums in 365 days challenge. i didn't realize allie x has a new album coming out; i'm so excited! and new bleachers so soon. i'm really hoping we'll get new sabrina music, although i'm not looking forward to fighting for tickets if she does another tour.

i read and didn't love 10 thousand doors of january, but i've heard really good things about alix harrow / a lot of my friends like her stuff, so maybe i'll give her another shot! i've also been struggling with reading books electronically as of late (although i don't read on the same device i use for work), which is why a bunch of my arcs have piled up 😵‍💫 i haven't actually touched the starless sea in a few days; i feel like annotating takes so much more time / effort / energy (which ... makes sense) but i'm hoping to get back to it soon 🤍 i can't wait to see your edit!!!

i tend to prefer standalones — or duologies! what about you? i'm really excited for the new ashley poston (a novel love story), a banh mi for two by trinity nguyen (a bit biased! i read an early draft of it), a dark and downing tide by allison saft (love allison saft! very excited for her adult debut!), a witch's guide to magical innkeeping by sangu mandanna, anatomy of a betrayal by grace d. li (loved portrait of a thief/her debut + have been eagerly awaiting her next book), the dark we know by wen yi lee (also biased! read an early version of this! but it's loosely inspired by spring awakening <3), and of course, emily henry's funny story (although i read an arc of it already so it feels like cheating!). what about you?

speaking of laufey, i finally bought bewitched on vinyl yesterday! it should be here sometime next week; i'm so excited to listen to it on vinyl :")
