Summary - Y/n and Vash are good friends since childhood. Once Rem decide to teach boys and you how to make a origami butterflies. You and your family escaped a collapsed ship shortly before the boys and Rem sacrifices herself, you hoped that Rem escapes with Vash and his older brother. Some time later, you and your family living far from Jeneora Rock, your mother died two years ago and you're get depressed because of this. Y/n studied as archivist in college but she didn't get a change to continue study a higher education cause she haven't enough money for studying. Y/n headed to JuLai City, she get caught in the center of the sandstorm, while she decide to wait until the sandstorm is over in the abandoned Tower nearby. Meantime, Vash, Meryl, Roberto and Nicholas get in the same problem and walked into Tower as well after you. When Vash and Y/n meet up after a long time, they're recognize each other barely but after introduction Y/n and Vash, they're happy to see each other again. When sandstorm is over, Vash made a tiger origami for Y/n as a gift also some other origami for Meryl x3 Part One of my story. Used wikihow how to make a butterfly origami.

Vash walked through the hallway and come inside the room where Rem sitting on her knees and Y/n sitting beside her with Nai nearby.

"Good morning, Rem." Vash smiled cheerfully.

"Good morning, Vash." Rem replied with a smile.

"Hey, Vash!" Y/n said.

"Good morning, Nai." Vash look at his older brother. Nai listened to Vash in silence.

"How about to make some origami butterflies, children?" Rem asked three of them.

"Oh, I love making crafting and origami the most!" Y/n said cheerfully.

"Uhm, why not." Vash answered after a little doubt.

"I'll teach you. Just repeat after me, kids." Rem said. Children sat next to her. Rem handed origami paper to three of them, paper had several colors. Vash chose red paper for his origami, Y/n choose (your favorite color) and Nai choose paper with a darker color. Rem took paper as well.

"Make a horizontal valley crease. Match the paper's lower edge to the upper edge and smooth the crease with your fingers, starting from the center and working your way out. Unfold the paper so the crease remains." Rem spoke.

Children glanced and listening to Rem carefully and repeated after her. "Good job. Now make a vertical valley crease through the center. Match the right edge to the left edge and crease with your fingers, then unfold." Rem instructed the children. Vash repeat after Rem again with a smile. Y/n glanced at both boys, Nai was interested deeply in a process.

"Let's do this, kiddos! Rotate the paper 45 degrees. Turn the paper counterclockwise so that what was the lower left corner now points downwards towards you." Rem encouraged them.

"Like this? I'm doing this right?" Vash asked.

"Yeah, don't worry about that, Vash." Y/n said. Vash laughed cheerfully.

"Alright, now make a horizontal valley fold. Carefully bring the lower corner to the upper corner, crease, and unfold." Rem continued.

"Uhm, wait a bit." Y/n said thoughtfully.

"Make a vertical valley fold. Bring the right corner over to the left corner, crease, and unfold." She spoke. Nai finished the step before Vash and you. Rem bringing the right corner over to the left corner, crease and unfold her model. "Are you tired yet? Our origami is almost done. Rotate the paper 45 degrees. Turn the paper clockwise or counterclockwise so that an edge, rather than a corner is facing you."

"I'm not tired, Rem." Vash replied.

"No, I'm not." Y/n spoke.

"No." Nai finally spoke.

"Alright, kids. There should be four valley creases though the center: a vertical, a horizontal, and two diagonal."

"Valley creases though the center..." Y/n sing aloud. Vash smiled at you.

"Fold the left and right sides to meet the central vertical crease. Align the right edge of the paper with the middle vertical crease and make a fold. Repeat with the left side. Do not unfold these creases." Rem said.

"Okay." Vash repeated.

"Lift and slightly open the diagonal creases in the top left and right corners. Insert your thumb and middle finger under the folded corners, holding the bottom half of the paper securely in place with your other hand." She said. Children do the same thing. Y/n nodded her head. Vash looking at his older brother and than glances at you.

"Fold the top edge down into a "roof" shape. Align the upper edge with the horizontal crease in the middle of the model. At the same time, open the flaps that you pinched in the previous step, pulling them apart and down until the top of the model meets the center crease." Rem said peacefully. Children glances at her.

"Rotate the model 180 degrees. Now the "roof" is upside-down, facing you. Repeat steps 7 and 8 on the upper half. Do you remember those steps, aren't you or you need a reminder, guys? When you finish, you'll have what's called an origami "boat base," a starting point for many different creations." Rem spoke.

"I remember that steps." Nai said. "I'll try." Vash nodded thoughtfully as Rem finished speaking.

"Yup!" Y/n replied.

"Now flip the model over. The folded edges you made in the last step should now be face-down. The corners of the "boat" should be pointing to the sides, with the two long edges extending horizontally along the top and bottom of the model." Rem said. Kids once again repeated after her. Their hard work is almost over.

"Fold the upper half down. Join the upper edge to the lower edge and smooth the valley fold with your fingers. Valley-fold the top right flap down. Holding the trapezoid-shaped model so the long edge is at the top, lift the top right corner and bring it downwards toward the model's vertical axis. Crease the fold with your fingers. Repeat Step 3 for the left flap. When you finish, both corners will be pointing down towards you." Children stopped for a while try to memorize the process and continued.

"Great job! Now make a small valley fold in the left flap. Examine the left flap you've just folded down, noticing the mountain fold upward-facing fold running diagonally from the central vertical axis and ending in a side corner. Lift the side corner slightly, moving it inwards and upwards toward the center, but not all the way. Smooth the fold with your fingers. Repeat Step 6 for the right flap. Because there are no guiding creases for these folds, take care to make the left and right folds even." Rem smiled at them.

"Uhm, yeah, wait for me a bit." Y/n said in confusion.

"It's okay, dear. Turn the model over. The folds you've just made should now be face-down to the working surface, with the flaps still pointing downwards towards you." Kids turned their models as she said to them.

"Valley-fold the model in half vertically. Bring the left corner over to the right and reinforce the crease with your fingers. Now make a diagonal valley fold in the upper wing. Lift the upper "wing" which is currently extending straight out to the right and bring it backwards, to the left, creating a fold that starts about 1/2 inch 1 cm from the left corner of the upper edge and extends diagonally to the lower left corner of the upper flap. Crease with your fingers and then unfold." Rem showed them. "Oh." Y/n feel herself tired.

"It's almost over, kiddos. Flip the model over. Now the wing tips should be pointing left, and the crease you've just made is face-down on the working surface. Repeat Step 1 for the other upper wing. This time, bring it up and back towards the right. Create a fold that starts 1/2 inch 1 cm from the right corner of the upper edge and extends down and right to the lower right corner of the upper flap. Crease and unfold." Children memorized the instructions and repeated them. "Open the wings. Orient the model so that the central vertical fold is "mountain," or upwards-facing. Pinch along the folds you made in Steps 1, 2 and 3. This is the body of the butterfly. Push the wings back along the creases to reinforce the folds. Our butterflies is done. I'm proud of you, kids." Rem patted Vash's head.

"Thank you Rem for teach us how to make butterflies!" Y/n thanked her.

"My pleasure, dear." Rem laid her hand on your shoulder gently. "Rem, I want to give you my butterfly as a gift to you." Vash gave a origami to her. "That's so sweet of you, thank you, Vash." Rem kissed his cheek. Vash blushes but he's smiled to her. "Aww." Y/n giggled. Vash lay his head on Rem's lap and fall asleep while Nai cuddling into her shoulder. She smiled in her sleep and you squeeze into her shoulder too. Y/n loves Rem as well, through it doesn't mean she don't love her own mother, Rem like a aunt for Y/n.

What if Q from Star Trek is Desmond’s real father?

So this stems from my tags in this post:

So here’s a what if scenario:

Of course, we have the option of this happening while Q had been turned into a mortal by the Q Continuum or not.

In this case, we’ll make Desmond the son of a non-mortal Q simply because mortal Q would have a hard time to mate with a human that was not a member of the Voyagers.

Of course, Desmond’s conception is done for the very same premise that Q had before: to produce a being with the power of a Q and the morals of a human as a way to end the civil war.

In other words, Desmond’s conception would be before Q mates with the female Q to produce… uuuhh… Q Jr.

Since Q (and his race) seemed to be capable of manipulating time itself, Q formed some sort of partnership with Minerva to ensure the creation of Desmond. As far as Tinia and Juno know, Minerva got the idea of saving the world from the second Solar Flare from the Calculations but the truth is that Q appeared to her and informed her of what’s going to happen (calling their Calculations ‘children’s toy’).

From their partnership, they pushed for the ‘Calculation’ that will create the genome of Desmond’s mother who Q will mate with. Minerva will leave clues to push his ancestors along to ensure the birth of his mother and, in this case, Minerva is both matchmaker and weird godmother, I guess?

So, in this setup, Desmond’s mother is also a descendant of the Auditore-Kenway line together with her Ibn-La'Ahad bloodline although, in this case, William Miles is a descendant of Ratonhnhaké:ton’s oldest child while Desmond’s mother would be a descendant of Io:nhiòte instead and that’s where their lineage diverged.

Desmond’s mother knows that William Miles isn’t Desmond’s real father but she kept it a secret as her marriage with William Miles had been purely for the benefit of the Assassin Brotherhood, to merge their two lineages and create a child that will have access to the memories of the great Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad and Ezio Auditore with the use of the Animus blueprints that Bill got years back.

The previous mentor had tried to dissuade them from doing such a thing but Bill didn’t listen and she didn’t bother to tell the mentor that she was simply using Bill to hide the fact that she was already pregnant.

She doesn’t necessarily understand who Q is but she mistook Q’s words of ‘a child that will stop the war’ to mean the war between the Assassins and the Templars and not Q Continuum’s own civil war.

Of course, to ensure Desmond doesn’t accidentally destroy the Milky Way growing up, Q marked him with something that will suppress his abilities until December 21, 2012.

To be more exact…

The supposed device that would save humanity from the Solar Flare was actually simply a device that will take off the suppression placed on Desmond.

The world wasn’t saved that day by the device. It was saved thanks to Desmond’s Q abilities.

Unorganized Notes:

There will be angst included because Desmond would realize that his stepfather is an asshole and his biological father is also an asshole.

Q would take Desmond away after December 21 (and everyone would think he’s dead) but, instead of placing him smack in the middle of civil war, he’ll be transported to the USS Enterprise on the year 2372. Everyone believed that Q didn’t want to deal with explaining anything and thought Picard and his crew can help Desmond get up to date.

Unfortunately, Q only thought about how 2372 is the year that the civil war between the Q Continuum started and not how, in 2372…

MURDER DRONES HEADCANON #1: the EVIL mode (aka X3)

[Both Uzi and N are inside the broken landing pod. Uzi's sitting on a spinning chair, tapping her fingers, eyeing a glitching screen. N is on the floor besides another chair. He makes it spin with one hand and watches it go.]

+ So...

- [Pushes chair to make it spin quicker.] Mhm?

+ [Turning slowly to N, not looking at him. Not too happy about his lack of attention.] What's up with the...

- [Stops chair. Tilts head back and to his left, looking at Uzi.] Mmmmmhm?

+ [As she talks, her eyes escape to the side, opposite to N.] Creepy... Murder face?

- Uh... [Keeps tilting his head back, eventually becoming a semicircle.] Oh! This thing!

[In a split second, N is upright and facing Uzi. A wide X crosses his visor and his jaw hangs fully open. Intermittent cackles escape his mouth as his claws extend.]

[Uzi is still looking away, distracted by some line of text briefly visiting the broken screen. A slow, calm turn to her left gets interrupted by shock: she reels backward.]

+ ROBO-JE-- [Nearly falling.]

- SHI- Sorry! Oh, sorry sorry sorrysorrysorry- [Reaches out to hold Uzi's hand. Fumbles with claws trying not to cut her arm, only half succeeding in holding her before he retracts them.]

+ Did- Did you HAVE to do the oil-sucking laugh?! [Slaps N's hand off.] Does EVERYONE ELSE have one of those?!!

- Ye- No! That's just kinda... How it works. [Retreating slightly, then overtly, scratching back of head.] Heh! Heh. Sorry.

+ [With both hands to the sides of her head: exasperated.] How it... What does that mean? Does the creepy face come in the same package or is it just funny to you?!

- I've never really thought it through. It makes me feel funny I guess! [Crouches and reaches to empty chair with one hand, pushing it to spin a little.] Now, if you'd excuse me--

+ No! [Holds chair from spinning with right hand. The other aims directly at N's face.] I need answers! Makes you feel funny HOW?!

- Lots of questions today, heh! I... Doooon't... Eh- Know? [Tries to push chair again. Uzi's hand is still in the way.]

+ [Left hand goes down to her knee.] N. I'm always asking you questions.

[Brief silence.]

- It's like things get really fuzzy for a bit. [Looking at chair, then pushing it again. Uzi pulls her hand back, and it spins a little before stopping.] Taking a bit of a back seat, I guess. Things happen on their own and I'm always having a laugh about it.

+ [Excited. Pointing up with left hand: eureka!] Ah! And you only do that when you're about to...! [Stops herself to look at N and left hand goes down: he's curling up with his hands over his knees, looking away from her.] What's wrong?

- It's creepy... But it's what we're stuck with.

[Silence.]

+ Sorry.

[Silence.]

+ I won't ask again, alright?

[Silence. Uzi looks back to the screen, and lets out a low sigh.]

- I think that's why V is the way she is.

+ [Quickly turning.] You mean all the... Murder?

- Yeah. She was shy before. Then she started laughing a whole lot.

+ I'm sorry. [Reaches out to grab N's shoulder, but regrets it and pulls back. He doesn't notice.] She didn't choose that. Or you.

- Don't be. It's alright.

[N turns to smile at Uzi. She smiles back.]

NOTES:

The evil X3 mode is a design feature that automates combat. It also rewards with robo-endorphins when they're doing EVIL SHIT and KILLING or something. In the short term, this makes them behave a lot more like laughing villains; doing hilariously evil shit and laughing maniacally when killing as a reflex.

Obviously this is because the MDs already have personalities, so to do their job they need to be steered in the long term -- and this fucks them up mentally like any drug would. It breaks V's shyness and makes her more of a deranged extrovert, while feeling like she's not really in control. It makes J more of an open shitbag. N just goes numb and lets go.

Over time, it kinda drives them insane; this is because it's a hack job.

They repurposed AI that wasn't designed to do this or be bent that far.

Ericka Pregnancy Dump Part 3!

1.Had the idea of Ericka reassuring Drac for a while, and I've been playing with the idea that, while Ericka is pregnant, Drac sometimes likes to stick around her when he can to make sure she's doing alright. Sometimes that includes him resting on her shoulder in bat form. Ericka, of course, doesn't really mind him being around, but she's still trying to keep him from fussing over her too much. After all, he worries enough as it is.

2. Speaking of Bat!Drac on Ericka's shoulder, I was in a sleepy cuddles mood again!

((Bonus: I hid some fun surprises in the registry book. XD))

3. With the 20th week just past, I thought I'd do Drac finding out that one of the twins is a boy which means he's finally having a son. (He loves that he's having another daughter too. I just thought I'd give the guy his moment since, judging by HT2, he did want a boy at some point.) Ericka's amused by his reaction and Mavis...well, after seeing her father dance in drag around the room after finding out about Dennis, she's not surprised.

Like Mavis, Ericka personally doesn't care what she gets. She's just happy her and Drac's monster-human legacy is actually happening. Whatever combination they come in. Mostly, they found out because these two are both planners who if they knew you COUKD find out before definitely would and plus... well, we've seen how Drac is when it comes to surprises and "Wait and see" situations. XD But beyond names and maybe clothes ("Even that's a matter of preference"), having one he didn't get to have last time etc. Ericka doesn't see why gender matters all that much. Van Helsing apparently didn't seem to care much what gender Ericka was, as long as she could do what was expected of her. Plus, she's also a martial artist. Which, in fighting, gender doesn't make as much of a difference as you'd think, and as a matter of fact female warriors are respected due to their ferocity (coming at it from a mental perspective of being an underdog.) I'm sure being Pan helps too. Her answer to "Do you want a boy or a girl?" Would most likely be "...I want babies." Either that, or just "Yes." XD

4. Wanted to draw some pregnancy stuff with Ericka and Mavis bonding (since Mavis has had a kid of her own already and they both became moms without having a mom themselves.) But I ended up making things feelsy. As much as they are two sides of the same coin, Ericka and Mavis came from very different worlds. And I kinda liked the idea that Mavis, being the more emotional and much less traumatized one of the two, could bring a nice outsider perspective, pointing out some of the more messed up things about Ericka's upbringing that she herself tends to be "This is fine. :)" about. Similar to how Ericka can be the practical brutally honest outsider perspective for Mavis. Plus, the idea of her getting upset on behalf of the stepmom she once tried to crush is both sweet and funny. XD

5.Some pregnant Drericka fluff inspired by some partner in love with pregnant belly prompts I found a while back involving the partner kissing the belly bump and tickling the other person. X3 Which is even sweeter with how touchstarved Ericka is and how strict her childhood was/how she was expected to act. Another one of those "bringing out each other's playful sides" things.

6/7. Was in a pregnant!Ericka mood yesterday morning. Ended up working on these longer than was intended but they turned out great. I've had the idea of Ericka discovering the "belly press-baby kick" game for a while. And of course loving/protective and Sleepy mama are always fun to do.

8. Dracula comforting an exhausted, achey, and very dramatic pregnant!Ericka as she flops onto his legs/lap.

Been meaning to do some Drericka fluff, and I had the "I'm going to be as big as the Legacy by the time they get here" joke for a while. Don't worry, as much as the guys joke, she's not going to get THAT big. They're just messing with her and Ericka's just being her usual dramatic self. As she would say "Look, hon, I can't help how I am. Being Dramatic is LITERALLY in my code. Besides, we're pretty much finding almost every possible way to void the human body warranty with these cute lil imps. And with almost ZERO idea what ANY of us are doing, I might add. I have EARNED my right to be dramatic."

9. Was in the mood for some Mama Ericka fluff. Plus, I haven't drawn Eve much lately. I like the idea of Eve being one of those cats who like cuddling up to their owner's pregnant belly/rubbing it with their paws and purring.

10. Some sleepy pregnancy fluff. While she IS willing to change position, Ericka's not about to give up her favorite pillow (Drac) just because she's having twins. She sleeps better hugging him and resting on his chest or shoulders where she can feel the rise and fall of his breathing anyway - the heartbeat is optional. (Plus, with her body temp higher than normal, the difference in body temp probabky feels REALLY good right now.)

Time had passed since Jack's discovery in that mine, and now the boy was 8 years old, although that didn't mean much to the Decepticons. They still couldn't hide their surprise when they saw that it had simply taken the child two years to grow in size and intelligence.

If Shockwave had been around, he would have wanted to take a closer look at this phenomenal growth, while constantly talking about how impressive it was. Jack would surely have argued that many animals grow much faster than him, with some only needing three years or less to be an adult.

That was already the answer he gave to Megatron, also explaining that humans don't live as long as Transformers. It still saddened the leader of the Decepticons, although he kept it to himself.

Jack knew all of these things from Soundwave's lessons, and Starscream's insistence that it was important for the child to learn about the human world.

Of course, the boy had never left the Nemesis, much to his dismay. But the ex-gladiator didn't want Jack to face real humans, who knew what they were going to do to him?! They had already hurt Jack once, how could Megatron be sure they weren't going to do it again?

The leader of the Decepticons was already against the child knowing the human world and its history, but this time he could not do anything against Starscream, who was much more stubborn than him.

The inevitable thing was of course that Jack now wanted to leave the Nemesis, to travel and discover the outside world, despite the clear reluctance of the ex-gladiator. Soundwave had offered to make him explore a few places, but each time it had been aborted by Megatron.

The Communications Commander quickly obeyed, never having to kind of go against his friend's demands. So it was only natural that Jack went to the Seeker. But this time again, the leader of the Decepticons intervened, clearly indicating his refusal to this idea, which led to an argument between the ex-gladiator and the jet.

“You're not going to leave him locked up here forever?! cried out Starscream, wings high.

- It's still me who decides in this ship, so you will just do as I order you and stop arguing!

- It's a stupid order, like many others!

- Pardon?!

- Jack has the right to discover things other than with pictures! You think you are doing this for his own good, but sequestering him is in no way beneficial to him!

- I'm not sequestering him!!

- Can you give me the definition of sequestering in this case?!

- …

- So?!

- Jack is not a hostage!

- All the same, you prevent him from going out!

- I don't even see why I'm arguing with you, I refuse to let him go out with you, and that's an order!

- Primus! What do you want to happen to him?!

- Stop discussing my orders!

- You can't even find answers for me!"

Jack watched the whole thing utterly distraught, and gasped when Megatron slapped Starscream. The Seeker staggered before putting a hand on his cheek, and couldn't hide a certain surprise, because it had been at least two years since the leader of the Decepticons had hit him.

Both robots heard small footsteps crossing the hallway, and saw Jack running away from them, clearly fleeing the scene. The child could not prevent the guilt from growing in him, whereas because of him Megatron and Starscream had argued… He had never wanted it to happen like this…!

But now the boy wanted to get out, to get away from here for a while, away from all that! He didn't want to see Megatron and Starscream fight…! Jack finally arrived in the medical bay, and he saw Breakdown and KnockOut hugging, before the doctor said:

“Good luck with your mission.

- Don't worry, with a bit of luck I might come across an Autobot, and I'll crush them! smiled the military car.

- I hope so!

- Where are you going, Breakdown? the boy asked, stepping closer.

- Oh, hello kid! said the blue robot, kneeling down in front of the child.

- Breaky is going on a mission. replied the sports car, while storing medical equipment.

- Really? Jack smiled, his eyes shining with interest.

- Yep!" nodded Breakdown.

The boy was silent for a while, and scratched his head, before asking:

"Hey… Can I come with you?"

The couple looked at the child in surprise, then the ex-Wrecker turned his head to his Sparkmate, waiting for a response from him, but KnockOut just shrugged.

"Uh… Well that depends, Megatron okay with that? Breakdown asked.

- Of course! Jack lied.

- Well why not in this case. But cover up a bit, it's cold there.

- You don't think it's dangerous to take him with you on a mission? asked the doctor, taking the military car aside.

- Don't worry, I'm just going to tag a source of energon spotted by Starscream, it won't be long, and the danger is really minimal.

- The Autobots are like scraplets, there is a good chance that one of them will disturb you…!

- I'll be careful, don't worry, and look at him."

Breakdown pointed to Jack, whose eyes were bright with excitement at the thought of going outside.

“It's obvious that he's dying to do go. finished the ex-Wrecker.

- …

- And then, Megatron agreed.

- Well, okay…”

The military car approached the child, then said:

"Come on kid, get ready! We leave in ten minutes!

- Yeah! Awesome!!"

The two left the medical bay, and KnockOut sincerely hoped they hadn't made a mistake.

Megatron had been looking for Jack for at least an hour now, without being able to find him. He had however searched in all the places where the child took refuge, when he wanted to avoid the leader of the Decepticons after a too abrupt reaction, but saw him nowhere.

The ex-gladiator knew he had to apologize to Jack for his action, but for that did he still have to find him… Megatron also knew that the boy would want the leader of the Decepticons to apologize to Starscream, but the ex-gladiator was going to try to convince Jack not to have to!

Even more time passed, and he still couldn't find Jack. Megatron would be lying if he said he wasn't worried, when his mind couldn't help but imagine worst-case scenarios, such as the child being stuck somewhere in the Nemesis, or in a room that was forbidden to him, such as the engine room…!

The leader of the Decepticons began to beg Primus, promising that if he found Jack safe and sound he would apologize to Starscream, even if that pest didn't deserve it. Oh! And that he would let Jack go out at least once a week, somewhere away from humans.

It was then that the ex-gladiator was called by the Seeker, who kept a certain distance. Megatron scowled, already stressed enough by Jack's absence. He groaned and turned to the jet, which tensed as he eyed him warily and angrily.

"What?! hissed the leader of the Decepticons.

- Soundwave reported to me that Breakdown has a problem. He have been captured. Starscream answered, keeping a certain seriousness about the military car situation.

- By the Autobots?

- … No, by humans.

- Humans?

- Yes.

- I'm not going to allow my time for a robot weak enough to get caught by humans!

- But-

- There are no buts, I have other things to do!

- Oh really?! What's more important than one of your soldiers needing help?!

- I'm looking for Jack right now, I can't found him!

- He's in the ship! Surely if you didn't behave like a brute he wouldn't avoid you! We have a real problem here! Are you really going to let those humans dissect Breakdown and uncover our secrets?!

- Breakdown is in danger?!" cried out a voice.

The duo turned to KnockOut, and Megatron put a hand to his face, before groaning.

"Great… "

Starscream sighed, before answering:

“He was abducted by humans.

- What?! You're going to help him, aren't you…! Oh, scrap…! And... And Jack?! Is he OK ?! Do you know?!

- What's the connection with Jack?"

The Seeker tilted his head in confusion, while the leader of the Decepticons frowned, not understanding the doctor's question.

"Jack go with Breakdown, did you forget? asked the sports car.

- What??!!" cried out Megatron, horrified.

The jet raised his wings in shock at KnockOut's statement, while the ex-gladiator beamed with rage behind him. The doctor didn't know where to go anymore, as he faced the wrath of the two robots.

“I never allowed Jack to leave with Breakdown!! yelled the leader of the Decepticons, leaning towards the sports car.

- How could you even think it was possible?! Starscream fumed, also closing in on KnockOut.

- I will never send my child on a mission!!

- It's only tracking… tried to argue the doctor.

- Even!! cried out the Seeker. It's still dangerous!

- Oh, so now going outside is dangerous for him! Megatron growled. In fact, you objected only to piss me off earlier! Little hypocrite!

- I never said that! I said going on a mission was dangerous for him! You senile old man!"

The leader of the Decepticons roughly grabbed the jet by the shoulders, and cried out:

"Don't test me, Starscream!

- That's right! Take your anger out on me, while Jack is in danger!"

The ex-gladiator shoved the flyer away, and called Soundwave through his comm, ordering him to take him to where Breakdown's position was last reported. Starscream rubbed his shoulders in pain, while giving Megatron a death stare. KnockOut moved closer, then asked:

"Are you okay?

- Do I look okay?! the Seeker snapped. Because of you and your stupid partner, Megatron yells at me for nothing and Jack is-”

The jet stopped in his rant when he saw the doctor's pained and worried look, both for the child and for his Sparkmate. There was also guilt, and the flyer didn't feel like amplifying that feeling at KnockOut. Starscream sighed heavily, shaking his head, and decided to follow his idiot leader to save this unconscious child!

“Are you really going to abandon Breakdown?! asked the doctor.

- … You heard Megatron, he's not worth it…

- And you, is that what you think…?"

The Seeker walked away from the sports car, not answering the question.

Jack looked around fearfully, not knowing what to do…! The bad guys had taken Breakdown somewhere, and by trying to help him, the kid had only succeeded in putting himself in danger as well…!

The boy banged on the door of the room he was locked in, ordering his kidnappers to let his friend alone. He tried everything he could to free himself, but still without success.

Jack gave a start of surprise when the door opened in front of him and a man with large scars on his face walked towards him. The child recoiled in fear, while the one who seemed to be the leader of the bad guys advanced towards him.

"R- Release Breakdown! cried out the boy.

- I don't think it's possible. smiled the man. You see, this machine has a lot to tell us, and there's no way we'll miss it.

- His name is Breakdown, he's a Transformer, not a machine!"

The leader smiled dangerously, then said:

"You seem to know things, kid, tell me more."

- …! No!

- It's up to you, I'm just offering you a painless alternative."

The scarred man motioned to the soldiers beside him, then ordered:

“Make him talk!"

He turned his back on Jack, and greeted him with a deceptively friendly air, before saying:

“I'm going to pay your friend a visit, we'll see if he survives."

The child could not hide his horror, as the leader left the room, leaving the boy at the mercy of his soldiers.

Megatron and Soundwave quickly arrived at the location, and the leader of the Decepticons wasted no time in shouting Jack's name. The Communications Commander quickly silenced him, then pointed to wheel tracks in the mud, as well as footsteps, some smaller than others.

“Let's go!" exclaimed the ex-gladiator.

They noticed that Breakdown and Jack had been separated at a moment, the two not being locked in the same place. Megatron frowned, as Soundwave was about to send Laserbeak to help Jack, so they could save Breakdown. But the leader of the Decepticons stopped him, before saying:

"Jack is more important than that incompetent! It's because of him that Jack is in danger in the first place! He got what he deserves!"

The spy plane hesitated for a moment, before finally nodding. The two walked towards the shed where Jack was locked up, unaware that they were being followed closely by Starscream.

The Seeker had first thought of revealing himself to the other two, but quickly backed down. A strange feeling run through him as the words of KnockOut kept spinning in his head, preventing him from making a decision… The jet turned his head towards the base the ex-Wrecker was locked in, and frowned, while his wings lifted with determination!

Megatron and Soundwave arrived in front of the hangar, and the leader of the Decepticons suddenly heard screams coming from it! His Spark jumped into his spark chamber, and he angrily ripped off the door, throwing it away!

The humans froze when they saw the large silver robot, and let go of their grip on Jack, who fell to the ground clutching his sides. Megatron felt his whole being burnt, and screamed in rage, before firing a massive cannon at the soldiers who started shooting at him!

“I will make you pay for your audacity! Miserable vermin!!"

Silas heard a huge explosion in the distance, and his computers told him that the building the child was in was on fire. He didn't even have time to be confused when a big crash was heard in the base!

Breakdown looked on in surprise, unable to know who it could be… The Decepticons had abandoned him, and the Autobots had no interest in coming to help him.

Starscream brushed off the vermin that persisted in shooting him with their ridiculous weapons, and when he got to the main room, he wasted no time firing a missile at the humans he saw!

Silas and some scientists manage to dodge the explosion, but are still thrown by the detonation. The MECH leader swore, before struggling to his feet as the military car stared at the jet in surprise.

“Starscream?! wondered the ex-Wrecker.

- Come on, move your big aft!" growled the Seeker.

He ripped Breakdown's restraints and lifted him forcefully, before grabbing his arm, and rushing outside.

“Jack… He- started the military car.

- Lord Megatron and Soundwave are on it!" the jet cut in.

The duo saw another explosion in a nearby building, and couldn't hide a certain surprise, as a large black smoke started to invade the sky.

Megatron and Soundwave faced helicopters, and the leader of the Decepticons quickly picked up Jack, before pulling him closer to protect him from the relentless human attacks. The Communications Commander deployed Laserbeak, which soon retaliated against the helicopters.

The ex-gladiator fired a cannon at one of them, determined to make them pay for attacking Jack! The pilot dodged the attack, and pulled out a new weapon, before shooting Soundwave. The spy plane was suddenly hit by a ball of electricity, which sent him against one of the walls of the building!

“Soundwave!" cried out Megatron and Jack, horrified.

Starscream and Breakdown dodged the helicopter attacks, Silas being in one of them. He took his radio, then ordered:

“I want at least one of them a bit intact, and preferably alive!

- Roger!" replied the pilots.

The MECH leader received a communication from the soldiers who were dealing with the culprits of the destruction of one of the buildings, and smiled when one of his men exclaimed:

"One of them is down!

- Keep it up!" Silas said.

Megatron quickly approached Soundwave with a worried look, while Jack cried. Laserbeak beeped in distress calling for his host, hoping he would wake up.

The leader of the Decepticons destroyed the helicopter that had dared to attack his friend, before taking out his sword, and swinging it towards the too daring humans! They had dared to attack Jack and Soundwave, and Megatron swore he was going to make them bitterly regret it!

The ex-gladiator grabbed one of the helicopters in his hand and crushed it in his palm, before trying to crush the cars that kept shooting at him with their machine guns!

Silas activated the electric weapon in his vehicle, then pointed at the larger one. He was the one who was going to be the hardest to knock out, better deal with him now!

Starscream saw the gun pointed at Breakdown, and knew he had no time to warn him…! The Seeker tore off part of the metal roof, and threw it in front of the ex-Wrecker, a little above. Electricity attacked the highest point, setting its sights on the metal plate.

The military car gave a start of surprise, while the jet aimed a missile at the helicopter which contained the leader of this damned organization. He was going to get rid of him here and now! Suddenly, his motion radar activated, as Breakdown yelled at him:

"Watch out!"

Starscream jumped, narrowly dodging a brutal electric shock, which exploded the ground where he was originally. The Seeker raised his wings in anger, before transforming into his jet mode, and flying above the helicopters!

Breakdown tackled the MECH agents in the cars, while the flyer took care of the sky. Starscream was quick to get rid of most of the flying vehicles, but when he wanted to deal with Silas and his other soldiers, they had already retreated.

The Seeker landed and hissed angrily, before crossing his arms. Breakdown moved hesitantly closer to him, and the jet didn't really look at him, not wanting to see the ex-Wrecker's missing optics.

"They did a number on you… the flyer remarked simply, not knowing what else to say.

- Oh yeah…"

There was a somewhat awkward silence, before the military car tried to break it, saying:

"By the way, thank you for-

- Shut up, I don't want to hear anything! Starscream snapped. You cause me enough trouble!"

He motioned for Breakdown to follow him, then continued:

"Let's go help Megatron and Soundwave instead!

- They are here too?! wondered the ex-Wrecker.

- You really think that Megatron was going to abandon Jack?!

- I… I don't know… uh…

- We will also have to discuss! What you did was stupid and reckless!

- You speak as if I had intentionally let myself be captured!

- No! Your stupidity is in taking Jack with you!

- Lord Megatron agreed…!

- Did you hear it from his mouth?!

- …

- You have your answer!"

Megatron had ended up slaughtering all the humans around him, it was carnage but he did his best so that Jack didn't have to see it. He moved closer to Soundwave who was coming to his senses with difficulty, clutching his chest in pain.

The leader of the Decepticons helped him to his feet, while Laserbeak approached his host, squealing in concern. Jack wept silently, and the ex-gladiator thought for a moment of scolding him, of showing him what his recklessness had done. It had put the child in danger, but not only, Soundwave also could have been really hurt, even worse, all because the boy had had the brilliant idea to disobey!

But Megatron recoiled when he saw how guilty Jack already felt. The leader of the Decepticons thought about the fact that it was not necessary. Of course, he was going to scold the child, but not now. First they had to make sure Soundwave and the boy were fixed.

That's when they heard a jet engine sound coming their way, and the ex-gladiator saw Starscream land, with a hint of surprise. He was about to ask him what he was doing there, when he saw another vehicle coming towards them. Breakdown returned to his root mode, and hesitantly approached the group.

"What are you doing here?! Megatron fumed.

- Uh… I… stammered the military car.

- Go away, there's no way I'll accept a robot like you into my ranks!

- Lord Megatron!" the Seeker interjected angrily.

The leader of the Decepticons glared at the jet, before Jack exclaimed:

"Breakdown!"

He reached for the ex-Wrecker, and wanted to get down, but he was too high for that. The blue robot greeted him softly, as the child cried with relief and grief.

“You are alive… but… your optic…

- Oh, it's nothing little guy. Don't worry!" Breakdown tried to reassure.

Megatron huffed, frowning, and Starscream moved closer, before whispering:

“Even if you don't like Breakdown, Jack loves him, think about him.

- That's what I'm doing! the leader of the Decepticons replied discreetly. Breakdown was unable to protect Jack!

- We don't have the luxury of losing a soldier, remember we are in war!

- Remember who's in charge here, Starscream!

- …”

The Seeker glared deathly at the ex-gladiator, wings high, and hissed:

“Put yourself together…! Or I assure you that Jack won't be able to stop me from sinking my claws into your fragging Spark!"

The two robots faced each other angrily, before the boy stammered:

"You are fighting…?

- Oh no, don't worry! Everything's good ! smiled the jet. Just a discussion about Breakdown.

- Me?! wondered the concerned, with a touch of fear.

- Yeah. Megatron growled.

- You see, Jack, Lord Megatron is very angry against Breakdown, he doesn't want him to come back to the Nemesis.

- What?!" cried out Jack, horrified.

Megatron roughly grabbed Starscream's arm, and growled:

"What are you doing?! You're making me look like the bad guy!

- You asked for it…! replied the Seeker curtly.

- No arguing!" the child exclaimed, calming the two robots.

The jet rubbed his arm in pain, before leaning over to the boy, and asking him:

“And you, what do you think? After all, Breakdown took you with him, it was very dangerous. Especially since he wasn't even able to protect you!

- S- Stop…! Breakdown panicked.

- It's… It's not his fault…! Jack defended vigorously. It was me who lied to him, telling him that you were ok with me going, Megatron… I'm sorry… And then, when the bad guys arrived, there was also an Autobot and…

- An Autobot?! You fought against an Autobot while Jack was there! the leader of the Decepticons got angry.

- You can see that I'm fine!

- That's not the problem!"

Starscream glared at the ex-Wrecker, who quickly looked away. Soundwave activated all his senses, to check if there weren't the presence of other robots.

"If the Autobots find out about Jack, they'll try to take him from us, do you understand that?! cried out Megatron angrily.

- I… I didn't know… I… spluttered the military car.

- There is also a possibility that the Autobot didn't see anything. Which Autobot that was? the Seeker intervened.

- Bulkhead.

- This big barrel is as smart as a rust worm, we should be fine. We better go!"

The Communications Commander opened a portal, when another formed nearby. Optimus came out, and Starscream took Jack from his leader's hand, then passed him to Soundwave. He grabbed Megatron's arm, when the latter had already drawn his sword.

"It's not the moment! Come on!" cried out the Seeker.

The leader of the Decepticons saw the other Autobots exit, and had to resist more and more against the jet, who was doing his best to pull him with him into the portal. The ex-gladiator groaned, before pushing Starscream into the land bridge, and entering as well. The Autobots watched the portal close, and Ratchet huffed, before saying:

“I have to admit that I'm surprised they bothered to help Breakdown."

Optimus frowned, as he could have sworn he saw a human with the Decepticons.

After this event, Jack was obviously punished, after having been repaired by KnockOut, just like Breakdown and Soundwave. Despite what had happened, Starscream didn't let go of the idea that the child should go out of the ship sometimes, which did not fail to annoy Megatron.

Yet he thought he had been very clear, especially when recent events had proven that it was too dangerous for the boy. The Seeker argued that it was precisely necessary to ensure that the exterior does not become a trauma for Jack, and that overprotecting him will never be beneficial to him.

Strangely, this argument had much more effect on Megatron than he would have thought. The leader of the Decepticons was still trying to come up with a counter argument, but he had to realize, much to his dismay, that Starscream was right.

The best way to keep Jack from doing something so dangerous again was to give him a little more liberty, so he didn't feel like he had to lie or sneak away. Which would be much more dangerous.

Thus a new routine settled in the Nemesis, once in the week, Jack left to explore a new place with one of the Decepticons, depending on the place he wanted to visit. Always under the watchful eye of Soundwave.

Hello anon! Thank you so much for your question - and what an interesting question indeed! I have had thoughts of pinning down how I perceive the Uchiha clan - so your question feels like the “answer” that yes, its time to finally do so. x3

But I wish not to keep you in suspense for too long, and I hope this answer will satisfy your curiosity:

*Note* the following headcanon(s) is not an accurate portrayal of Japanese culture. It is inspired from some historical and cultural aspects of it, but I have taken liberties in my portrayal of a culture to a fictional clan.

And yes I did not respect canon 100%…

This is also the type of headcanon that might undergo changes in time, but this is how I would answer your question atm, anon.

I see the Uchiha clan as more individualistic than collectivistic. They value harmony and peace, but not to the same collectivistic degree as the Senju. Their mentality was first and foremost focused on their loved ones - then the clan as a whole. But even then there existed those that saw the collective before the individual.

From the eyes of outsiders the Uchiha appear quite selfish and ruthless, but each and every Uchiha has a strong sense of kinship with one another despite their loved ones being their priority. Trust flows freely between one Uchiha member to the next.

Everyone also has the back of one another in times of need, but it is no secret that they do value a sense of independence before a sort of “hive mind”.

In a sense “survival of the fittest” can be used to describe the clan - but it is a very simplified way of viewing the clan.

The Uchiha clan of old - long before Konoha was even founded, and the Warring States Era had even begun - was actually a very peaceful clan that shunned conflict and preferred a peaceful living; until the daimyō began to grow both restless and dissatisfied with the land and power they already had. Conflicts broke out and spread quickly. Before they were called “shinobi” all the different clans that would emerge during the Warring States Era were called samurai. It was only around four centuries before the Warring States Era happened, that the different clans began calling themselves “shinobi” and began the form of “hire for coins” that would define the entire Warring States period.

During the Warring States Era the entire world was in upheaval because of the earlier power structure completely breaking down.

The Uchiha clan quickly made a name for itself, and it took not long until the daimyō had formed a cycle of hatred between the Uchiha clan and the Senju clan

Leadership

The Uchiha clan is unified by one single leader, who then guides the entire clan to follow a shared conviction. The Uchiha clan chooses their leader on the basis of strength (physical and emotional) and there is a high degree of trust in their leader’s decision(s).   Leadership is generally given to males, but there have been three cases of women leading the clan as its leader.   The process of leadership itself is a dance of ruthlessness (in the eyes of outsiders) and democracy (unity).  While anyone in the clan has the potential to become its leader, throughout the history of the clan many of its leaders has had a military background – whether high-ranking or not. Aristocratic and peasants is a distinction that doesn’t exist in the clan, unlike in the Hagoromo clan (which is said to be direct descendants of the Sage Hagoromo himself). Uchiha Tajima was a renowned warrior, but a “mere” lieutenant, by the time his successor – with no living child of his own, and dying on the field of battle – asked him to lead the clan.   A leader undergoes a strict “appointment ritual” before they are officially made leader. This ritual includes a process of voting (to see if they are in favour of the rest of the clan), to battle the other potential candidate(s) (which is often the son or someone close to the second-in-command) into submission, battle strategy/war meeting and philosophical questions to discern values and whether they align with the wishes of the clan.

The leader appoints a second-in-command, and it is not unusual – as a sign of respect – to give that specific role to the very person they fought for leadership. The prior second-in-command steps down if that is the case.  Co-leadership (or “symbiotic leadership” as it also is called) was very common, and yet it is not the same as being appointed the role of second-in-command, not entirely. If the leader of the clan appoints someone as co-leader, they have the role of acting as second-in-command, as well as a “pseudo-leader”. This type of leadership was common during the peaks of the war, as it kept leadership intact should one of the leaders fall in battle. It was most common to appoint a fellow male as co-leader (often a relative to which there was a strong bond), but Uchiha Tajima was one of few that made his wife his co-leader.  The most famous example of co-leadership throughout the entire history of the Uchiha clan, was the co-leadership between Uchiha Madara and Uchiha Izuna. It was so effective at keeping the clan unified, yet it also polarized the clan – something that was painfully seen the moment Izuna succumbed to his wound – that the entire clan was split, and many even defected to the Senju of all clans. Even years later the death of Uchiha Izuna would forever haunt the clan, and it was only during the founding of Konoha that co-leadership was abolished once and for all.   While leadership generally falls onto the son of the current leader, that is not entirely a given. There have been exceptions in the past (as was the case for Tajima) as well as not all leaders having had a son. Leadership comes down to their readiness to rule and care for the clan in the end, but the oldest son of the leader (Madara in Tajima’s case) and the son of the second-in-command, tend to be those that are trained into the role of leader.  While the “me versus you” system puts tremendous pressure onto each of the children, they know that it must exist as a precaution should one of them be deemed unfit to care for the clan. 

The wife of the leader (matriarch) has a very high position socially. She cares for the clan the same way the leader does - but on a different front. Tajima cared for anything related to the battlefield, and used the funds for the sake of battle, while Kiyo - his wife - cared for the clan’s internal order. She used the remaining funds for medication, food (that they could not get themselves) and other necessities to keep the clan afloat.

Climate Despite the leadership being a ruthless affair, the climate in general is one of harmony and a peaceful co-existence – if a highly competitive one as well. As much as the clan cares for one another outside of battle, during the midst of combat everyone is expected to fend for themselves.  Weakness is frowned upon in other words. As well as being “sloppy” and “careless” with training.   Training itself is harsh. It is here that the more individualistic mindset of the clan reveals itself at its strongest; kill or be killed is drilled into every child.  Children have to be strong so to fend for themselves, if they don’t, they will only bring everyone else down with them. Families do try to keep an eye on inexperienced members, but there is only so much focus they can expand without dying themselves.  Weakness also guarantees death.

Parents teach their children early the life of shinobi (it is to them the morally right choice, not necessarily the choice of the highest love) and children as young as three years old begin their shinobi training (said training becomes much more ‘real’ around the ages of 4 – 7). Generally children follow their fathers into battle around 5 – 8 years of age depending on the circumstances.

Children are barely allowed to be children at all. Everything they know is the lifestyle of a shinobi, even something innocent like playing “tag” is training. Even skipping rocks across a river is treated as training.

Despite the above the clan is in general a generous one, sharing with the less fortunate ones and helping one another, but everyone does first and foremost care for themselves and living by the premise of “I can only help others if I myself am taken care of”.

This is easily seen as being a “survival of the fittest” scenario - and on some level that is correct - in the eyes of outsiders, but the clan knows from experience that they cannot help their kin if they, themselves, are dead. It would also be a waste if their help was met with death, especially if resources are scare.

That is the most genuinely cruel the Uchiha clan will be to one another.

Social hierarchy (family + clan)

The social hierarchy in a family is well defined and each member addresses their fellow family members with respect (as well as affection through their tone, or the occasional use of nicknames that have a very deep, profound meaning). “Anata” is common to hear from married couples (the names of husband and wife only pass their lips when there is obvious disagreement with a choice).

Izuna, for example always called Madara “nii-san” (and was called such in return by their three younger brothers), and addressed Tajima as “tō-sama” and his mother “kā-sama”. His deepest sign of love for his family was calling Madara by his childhood nickname, “Mada-nii”, his father “tō-san”and mother “kā-san”. But no matter if more formal or not, there was always a particularly strong bond between them.

The oldest children help care for their younger siblings, and they are also taught various skills from their mothers (cooking, sewing, treatment of illnesses) to be there for the family should the parents be away at the time (war meetings as in Tajima’s case, or traveling for supplies or other reasons) - but the entire clan is there to help their fellow Uchiha.

Tajima has never laid a hand against his sons, and never would dare to do so. He shows his disapproval through voice and eye-contact (never with the Sharingan active though). And that is in general how parents discipline their children. Physical violence to discipline children is met with contempt, which is partly a reason the Uchiha loathe the Senju and their willingness to resort to physical violence against a child.

When amongst their kin the Uchiha clan are respectful and mindful of the social hierarchy in place. Younger children are chided should they make mistakes, but its only when they are a tad older - and step out of line - that the tone of guidance becomes a sharp glance in disapproval.

While families primarily focus on their loved ones, the Uchiha clan of old was not below caring for other children, or the elderly and sick, as a group. Compassion and kindness is very important for the clan, but their strongest drive to care for one another was out of love for one another.

Affection and gestures

In private families are very affectionate towards one another (some more than others, of course) but physical touch is not frowned upon. Children generally sleep in the same room as their parents (more common during winter than summer) both for their comfort and their safety.

While perhaps more a social gesture, to take a bath together is still a very intimate experience as well. It is a sign of affection to wash the hair of a fellow Uchiha (a gesture reserved mostly for family - but between potential lovers it is a first sign of trust and that there is fondness there that goes deeper).

Hugs are more common among children than adults, through. But its not unheard of for adults to embrace each other - it is simply very intimate to do so.

The most intimate gesture of affection between a couple is to look into each other’s eyes, and watch their emotions reveal themselves.

Kissing someone is generally a very sacred gesture, and is done in private with their life partner. It is also a very intimate gesture as Uchiha - who rely heavily on eye-contact for communication - close their eyes while sharing a kiss. To brush a kiss against the eyelids of their partner is considered the most intimate of kisses - as with it follows the unspoken promise to look for one another in the next life.

The gesture above would be interpreted as romantic in the following generations, but during the Warring States Era this particular kiss/oath is platonic in nature. It was actually more common for siblings, rather than lovers, to exchange it. The bond between lovers had to be exceedingly deep to make such a promise as to reincarnate and look for one another again.

Gesture-wise the above has the same meaning as saying “Ai Shiteru” to their lover. Uchiha generally prefer gestures of affection over words, but if a couple speak “Ai Shiteru” to one another their love for one another is profound, absolute and genuine.

Children

Children are generally born in the winter months (December - February/early March) as it was the winter time that (while harsh in its own right) allowed the clans a brief respite from the wars that raged at the time (most of the time). This weakened state was as much a disadvantage as it was an advantage for the few clans ruthless enough to strike outside of a contract.

Most families had many children. To have 5 to 7 seven children was not uncommon. Not many reached adulthood, though. Most barely made it into their teens when the wars were at their peak.

Children, sons rather, were acknowledged as adults by the time they mastered the “Katon: Goukakyuu no Jutsu” (daughters were taught the jutsu by the time Konohagakure was founded and equality could be established)

It was not unusual to know the jutsu by the age of nine to thirteen. Cases than the usual development frame are not unheard of, such as Madara - gifted beyond compare - who learnt the jutsu by the time he was seven. Izuna was close to seven himself (the age gap between them was 14 months) when he followed in his brother’s footsteps.

But those cases were exceedingly rare as most simply could not handle the destructive nature of the fire element until they were a touch older than the above mentioned prodigies.

Wedlock and parenthood

Wedlock was done out of love and compatibly. It was also not as common as it was in other clans at the time - the only exception to the rule was the leader of the clan: they were required to enter wedlock out of legal reasons. It was both for the sake of their wife - securing her status to the rest of the clan - as well as having a potential “crisis mediator”. While it was very rare that the clan’s structure would collapse, there was once a particular siege that nearly eradicated the Uchiha clan. During that particular battle they were wounded severely in every way imaginable. Only the wife of their leader remained from the Uchiha in high-ranking positions - and that particular woman single-handedly brought order and structure back to the Uchiha clan, that was on the verge of internal collapse from having lost their entire leadership in the bloodiest war in that particular period. It was thereafter that marriage was required of their leader, and the matriarch gained the single most important role in a time of absolute chaos, a role that throughout history became more or less obsolete - but it would remain up until the founding of Konoha just in case. When the matriarch had made her choice for a fitting candidate she would often step down from her position and work as an advisor for the next wife of the leader.

Like wolves, couples (whether married or not) lived together their entire lives (or until death parted them). Most found someone new, but those in the position of leadership generally refused to love anyone else. Wearing black was the sign of their grief, and that was something they wore until their death.

The Uchiha clan made a very important distinction between love/emotional partnerships and sexual partnerships. While most loved (and were emotionally faithful) to only their lover, it was not uncommon for men (and women) to seek out sexual pleasure with someone else. The act of love-making, however - the creation of a child - was a sacred experience that was shared only between lovers.

While the Uchiha strongly preferred unions in the clan, it was not unheard of for Uchiha men and women to form unions with one of their allied clans at the time (Like the Hagoromo clan). While still out of love, most of these unions were the very few cases of political marriages existing in the Uchiha clan.

Marriages were kept purely in the Uchiha clan after the Hagoromo clan were eradicated.

It was not unusual to become parents young (15 - 25). To become parents around 15 was common when wars were many, but not as common in more peaceful times. Wedlock was usually entered around the same time or even later than that. As only the leader was required to marry, most others saw no true need for such (it was more a symbolic gesture in those cases).

Women and their role

Women were treated with respect and even reverence - despite not fighting in the wars with their loved ones. As much as the notion appears sexist, the reason was because women secured their survival at the time (through children, yes). Exceptions existed, such as women who were infertile, but pretty much all women were taught the art of hunting and gathering rather than combat for the battlefield. During the winter months, especially, women secured the survival of the clan through hunting of fish (and some meat), gathering of herbs and resource management.

Women were exceptional at treating the most various of illnesses - from fever to hyperthermia, to more complex cases of amputation to removal of eyes and even cases of organ transplantations - and from a young age girls were taught to help out during childbirth.

Young daughters were seen as women the day they “bled”.

While most women were not taught the art of combat in the same capacity as men, they were taught to defend themselves should other clans perceive themselves as particularly clever for going after them.

Madara and Izuna were two of the first Uchiha teaching their lovers combat the way they were taught since childhood (a training session that would have appeared abusive in the eyes of outsiders).

Their lovers would end up becoming the clan’s strongest women, as well as a symbol for many young girls who wanted a different life for themselves.

Women were known to nurse their own children and children of others if breastfeeding did not work for a new mother. Older women were especially considerate and kind to young, inexperienced mothers and helped out their fellow woman the very same way men supported each other on the battlefront.

Women were also known to adopt orphaned Uchiha children if they had the capacity to care for them. As was the case for Ryoko - a healer in the clan - who adopted a fair share of orphaned children (girls) to teach them the art of healing (not medical ninjutsu as we know it from the Naruto canon), they were much more primitive with treatment of illnesses, as records of more elaborate healing had vanished through time (yes, that includes the Senju as well, who were quite advanced for their time)

Medical ninjutsu - both in theory and practice - began in this era through.

As absurd as it sounds, barely anyone saw the very fact that chakra - which caused such destruction - could be used for its opposite as well. That is how destructive the Warring States Era was to the generations living through it. They could only see destruction rather than healing.

Religion

Religion and particular shinto practices were quite important to the Uchiha clan. Families would pray at particular shrines for good health and the safety of their loved ones.

Reincarnation was a deep seated belief in most Uchiha, as most of their gestures and social practices actually originated from the belief that they were allowed a second chance at life (which did not mean that they were reckless with the life already given, not the Uchiha of Tajima’s era at least).

Their were many deities that the Uchiha believed in, but the most respected deities were Amaterasu, Tsukiyomi, Izanagi and Izanami and Susano’o.

Children were especially fond of hearing the various stories about the above mentioned deities.

Another mythical creature that children enjoyed hearing about was the Tengu and Minamoto no Yoshitsune.

Sharingan

The Sharingan was something the Uchiha clan was proudest of. In battle it was the greatest asset of the clan, but outside of battle the Sharingan was not seen activated, and if so, it was under very specific circumstances.

Most Uchiha actually sparred without the Sharingan to better hone their abilities. Over reliance on the Sharingan was frowned upon, as - while it was their greatest strength on the battlefield - it did not make them invincible. Arrogance was often met with warnings to be careful, at least on the battlefield.

The Sharingan was NEVER manifested while disciplining a child. To do so would be akin to physically hit the child, which is the type of abuse the clan abhors in the Senju clan.

To reveal the Sharingan to a fellow member of the clan was a sign of open contempt for said member. This hostility was often fought out and ended not seldom in death.

If a man revealed their Sharingan when looking into the eyes of their lover, it was the deepest sign of love for his partner. If a women did the same (the handful that actually gained the Sharingan during this time) they exchanged a vow that was even stronger than the vow of marriage.

If the Sharingan was manifested during love-making it was a sign of reverence and respect.

Uchiha clan (Konoha)

The Uchiha clan living in Konoha was not much different from the Uchiha clan of old. The climate did change a touch more than during the Warring States Era, such as becoming even more individualistic than during Madara’s era. The clan remained important, though, and especially when the clan was pushed to the outskirts of Konoha. It was during that time that they returned to the values of their ancestors.

“SuperCGA” and ATI Graphics Solution and GEM Desktop

8bit guy published a video about SuperCGA cards, which reminded me that this was a topic a recently dug into. I’ve never really worked with CGA/EGA monitors. When we had a computer at home for the first time in 1989, it was an IBM PS/2 Model 20 borrowed from dad’s office. That computer already had an on-board graphics chip that worked with VGA monitors. One year later, my family decided to buy our own computer. It was a 286 clone with an SVGA graphics card and an SVGA monitor able to show 1024×768 (interlaced though).

During the Bytefest (a vintage computer show in Czech Republic), one of the computers I brought there was an early Vienna 286. A friend of mine promised that he would have brought an EGA monitor, so I could try a card I bought just for this purpose – a Trident 8800CS (512KB). This Trident has both VGA and RGBI/TTL (CGA/EGA) outputs and can be switched to act like different IBM graphics chips. Sadly, the Trident card was ignoring the switches and always used VGA timing. It sent the signal always to both outputs but my EGA monitor was not able to sync 640×480 with 31kHz h-sync (as expected). We brought an oscilloscope, even made some modifications to the card, but nothing helped. When I asked in some groups, the only answer I got was that somebody tried the same thing on his Trident 8800CS with the same result.

Anyway, I also had the original ATI Graphics Solution card that was sold with the computer somewhere in 1987, so at least I had something else to play with. This is a very neat card. It has 64KB of video RAM and supports both CGA and Hercules modes. As I shown in the past, it even supports CGA modes on Hercules/MDA monitors using clever timing tricks. The card was used in the Hercules mode for the whole its life as the machine served in an electrical engineering lab for designing electric circuits. This was finally the time for me to switch it into the native CGA mode.

Seeing the CGA modes was not so interesting for me. However, the card supports also non-standard modes that can utilize the whole memory which is four times of what the IBM CGA has. The obvious choice was something that supports Plantronics ColorPlus which ATI supported like many other CGA-clone vendors. Yes, I tried Planet-X3 and Space Quest 3 in 320×200 with 16 colors. However, Planet-X3 is a modern game, and the Space Quest 3 uses a modern video driver to support this card (the original game did not have it). I was more interested in productivity apps. After seeing that GEM Desktop (sort of a Windows competitor) provides support for ColorPlus, I installed the whole bundle.

At the beginning, everything looked just like with CGA – black & white only. This was because the desktop environment does not use more colors there. On the other side, if I moved the mouse fast enough, it was visible that sometimes the cursor was ping instead of black for a moment. Thus, I knew that we were actually in the 4-color mode. After installing office programs, I was finally able to see all four colors in 640×200. Quickly after that I realized that among desktop accessories, there is a calculator that uses magenta as a background color. Anyway, I am happy that I also tried these office/productivity apps. From my point of view, they are gimmick. They look like they support everything but when you try to do something, you get the feeling that they were designed more to present the functionality of the desktop environment.

The ColorPlus had just 32KB of video RAM and my ATI Graphics Solution has 64KB, so it should be able to drive 640×200 in full 16 colors. I’ve checked the user guide for the card and indeed this mode was mentioned there. ATI manual says that there is support for it in AutoCAD, PC Paintbrush+, Lotus 1-2-3, Symphony and Framework II. I installed the PC Paintbrush+ as a bitmap editor can benefit the most from such a mode. The support for this card was built in the software so no extra drivers were needed. After selecting the mode, I was able to get the best out of a CGA 200-line monitor. What I really like, the bundled ATI driver disk contains a small example program to enable this mode (including its source code), so programmers could modify their own programs to get more than what a standard CGA offered.
