Goncharov (1973) Easter Eggs
Martin Scorsese is an absolute genius. Was admiring Goncharov’s cinematography the other day and sketching some film stills. Did you know Scorsese created time motifs every time someone or something important occurs?
Don’t believe me? See below the cut.
In scenes that keep driving the plot, we see:
1. Goncharov’s car in the middle of the night; the introduction of the protagonist.
2. Tinned Sardines; the mysterious third-party.
3. Sofia’s heel; her official introduction to the audience.
4. The church tower; where Goncharov meets Andrey and one of the main clock motifs throughout the movie.
5. Joe’s ice pick; when the viewers officially realize Joe’s role.
6. A boat under the midnight moon; the vessel for Katya and Sofia’s escape.
7. Apple; the market stall where Goncharov and Andrey rendezvous.
8. Goncharov as he walks away; the scene where our protagonist officially succumbs to his greed and ambitions.
9. Katya in front of her vanity; the moment that she decides to take things in her own hands.
10. Joe and his machine gun; officially hired and on the Goncharov job.
11. The cards scene; featuring 5 of Coins and King of Swords (traditional Italian playing cards), hinting at Goncharov’s eventual fate.
12. Goncharov’s pocket watch as he runs out of time...for the last time.
Now, Scorsese takes all of these moments and with his brilliant little Film Director Mind hid these little Easter Eggs:
EACH OF THE 12 IMPORTANT SCENES IN GONCHAROV (1973) MATCHES AN HOUR ON THE CLOCK
I CANNOT believe Goncharov (1973) is overlooked in film analysis classes.

Episode 1 of Absolute Zero has me hooked. I know it's going to be heartbreaking and I'll be filled with sorrow and unimaginable pain, but the beauty and painful nostalgia that seeped through the screen and filled my heart is unexplainable.
Fated lovers, time travel, DVD's, the cinema, all of it is beautiful in the simplest way. I'll stay and watch it until the very end. Even if it rips my heart to shreds.
