Part 1 of 5 or 6, I haven't quite decided yet. Our horror girlies tend to get overlooked so much compared to male counterparts 🥲 I plan on making one for each decade from the 70's onward.
Today we have Regan from The Exorcist, Carrie from Carrie, Laurie Strode from Halloween, Suzy Bannion from Susperia, Jess Bradford from Black Christmas, and Sally Hardesty + Bubba Sawyer (in his pretty woman mask of course) from Texas Chainsaw Massacre 😙
"I never thought I had to slay my own kin... but it was all to protect her, so I guess... it wasn't so bad of a choice. I did it for love.. and her hopes and dreams."
what do you think about possession/excorcism movies? im not catholic enough to appreciate them
I also have the protestant debuff. Possession is cool as a socio-historical phenomenon, but since films tend to require the intervention of a real spirit the effect is usually wrapped up in a dense process of metaphor, for a loss of individual autonomy etc. Are there any possession films where it turns out the possessed was just acting quirky? There's a lot you can do with the concept. Or you can do some Babadook "the real demon... is familial trauma :(" type shit. But I'll leave that to the big wigs at "Hollyweird" to decide...
The fact that the process required to be certified as/visited by an exorcist was made way more laborious after The Exorcist came out is really funny. I would love to watch a film that just describes all the vaticanal bureaucracy that had to be navigated before they could do the opening scene of Constantine.
Uhhh okay so this post might be weird or stupid and I may delete it haha
But I’ve been wanting to read the original “The Exorcist” book/novel ever since I watched the movie, and I’m wondering if any has/knows the age rating? It’s kinda silly but I have a heavy discomfort with certain topics, I’m fine with violence, gore, and things like that, but not so much of other things. I know this is kinda stupid but if anyone has/would like to make/knows an at least somewhat detailed/accurate age rating/content warning that’d be nice :]
So I felt pretty unproductive in August. I went into a second bout with Elric hoping I'd like him better than I did the first time I tried to read him, but that wasn't really the case. I certainly appreciate him better than I did, but getting through those books was a fucking slog, and I'm happy to be done. Technically, the Fortress of the Pearl isn't a Roseville Beach Read since it came out in 1989, and technically I strongly prefer to read series in publication order, but I was stuck with an omnibus edition so I ground my teeth and got through it. (Some would say the same thing for Weird of the White Wolf, but it's all reprints/rewrites of shorter fiction that was published in the 60s.)
I'd been meaning to pick up both The Exorcist and The Bull from the Sea for years decades and kept not getting around to it. If I'm ever stuck in a 70s paperback exchange, I'd happily read either one again.
The Dispossessed, which I hadn't read before, is probably the best, most rewarding book I've read this summer. Getting through it while dealing with some of my own inner demons was rough, but I can't recommend it highly enough.
Watched this classic to refresh our minds for the newest addition. We plan to rewatch all of them. Already 3 down with this one and 2 more then finally ending it with the recently released one. So excited about it. Please no spoilers.🙏🏻
Anyways, I’d rate this a good 4.7 ⭐️s. I can definitely understand why this was the top movie of its time.💚
