man see i was wondering what it is about the life series specifically that tends to make me go "what if i got weird and meta" and i think it's a number of things, right. like, i think it's a little "martyn canonizing watchers in his series which means the fandom already has a framework to expect that", but i also think it's a lot "the way life series works has always been in a certain kind of communication with the fandom as a story, almost more blatantly than other related series", and some "the nature of how life series is constructed from different povs means that we as a fandom talk a lot about how that makes it work as a story", also a lot "it makes a fun way to explain why they keep on doing it after all the in-character drama". it's ALSO definitely a tiny bit "as a writer sometimes i must give into my most pretentious impulse to write about writing" though. just a bit,

something that bothers me but i have NO idea why it bothers me so much is when europeans will ask where americans are from and they say they're from the us they go "well obviously, where in the us?". but the second an american answers with a state it's "well how am i expected to know every single us state??". (here's the secret btw: you're not) but if an american doesn't know where a european country OR state is "all americans don't know any geography at all, you're all stupid and think you're more important than everybody else". like PLEASE, JUST PICK ONE. and before anyone is like "countries are different than states", yes, obviously. but a lot of european countries are smaller than us states. and the us may all be one country but it's really like a bunch of smaller countries. i grew up in pennsylvania, you go to florida it's an entirely different place. you go to new jersey it's completely different. and if you asked a european where they're from and they go "paris" you won't be offended. you're mad bc if you tell an american "i don't know where that is" most people won't act like you're stupud, they'll just explain it to you. "it's about 4 hours from ____ if you know where that is!" "it's the northern east coast!" but the second an american asks yall you get all mean and offended. be so fr
